Christopher's is our usual restaurant of choice when my husband and I go out to eat. It's not much of a drive from Oak Harbor, and definitely worth it. Their mushroom fondue is to die for. My husband always get the mustard encrusted steak (I don't know the exact name off the top of my head) and eats every possible bite. I tend to vary my food selections, and it's all been very good. The tomato soup is awesome. The service is always friendly. It's always hit or miss how busy they are. Sometimes we've made a reservation for a Friday night, and there are a ton of open seats. Last night, we just showed up for for a Wednesday night random dinner, and it was packed! The more we come to this restaurant, the more we love it. My mother-in-law recently bought us a gift certificate by calling the manager so that they had it there waiting for us when we arrived. Everyone was so friendly about it, and super accommodating. We love them all.

Rec'd by the owner of the Coupeville Inn. Went to check out the posted menu, and had a group of locals ask us where we were from etc, and further recv the place. So, in we went! Thursday night and the place was hopping. Lots of knowledgeable waitstaff. Water and bread (decent baked) filled throughout the meal. Since mussels were the special we got the large size to split. Nice white wine sauce, not too much garlic. Calamari caesar was different and interesting, but tasty. Not like we haven't had grilled romaine before, but with grilled calamari, it was quite 'umami' ish. Hubby and I split the smoked salmon pasta. Cooked perfectly el dente. Very savory sauce, fresh parsley. (Not as good as the recipe from the NY times, but I'm splitting hairs!). One of our friends really enjoyed the shrimp with gnocchi. Her words were 'now these are gnocchi !' They were pillowy soft and the shrimp sauce was delicious. Wanted to have the homemade chocolate mousse, which looked awesome going past our table, but there was no way. We were too full for dessert, had to take a walk around the town. Thanks for the recc's!!

Lovely surprise. Great menu, warm ambiance and professional, friendly service. Our group of 8 went there for dinner. Ages ranged from 9 to 68. Every meal was beautifully presented and delicious. We had to ask for more bread (and then MORE bread) because the sauces were all so yummy.

Friendly service, tourist attraction Heard the hype and after having the food I was thinking -- eh ok -- not that great

If you are up on the island and want a meal that will complement the beauty of the area, try Christopher's as we do everytime we visit. Personal favorite is the garlic soup (though I will advise that it may not work for everyone) and any of the sandwiches. If you can manage, the dessert is worth ordering as well, especially the chocolate mousse that is served in a chocolate tulip bowl. Exquisite. On Saturday's in the summer, use Christopher's to regain air conditioned balance between shopping at the nearby farmers market and walking the main street.

We are locals who LOVE Christopher's! I cant think of one bad thing about this place. The food is fabulous, the portions are VERY generous, wonderful view, good service and very fair prices for what I consider gourmet food. Their menu isnt huge, but everything Ive had here has been fantastic. Their garlic soup is to kill for-its rich yet delicate at the same time. Steak sandwhich is always made perfectly. I bring my baby daughter and they are so accommodating, flipping the highchair upside down and letting her sit our-level in her car seat/carrier. I took my grandma here from out of town and she enjoyed it. I go here at least once or twice a month with my parents. The dining room is small, but on a nice day you can eat outside. I highly recommend Christophers!!

Loved the small atmosphere of Christopher's. For a Tuesday night this place was packed, not a seat left. They have a great beer and wine selection as well as very reasonable pricing for the quality of food and beverage. We had the mussels, chowder, and smoked salmon linguine all of which were amazing. The mussels had one of the best sauces ever actually no the best sauce ever I've had with mussels. So good in fact it took two baskets of bread to soak it all up. The chowder was pretty rich, but still pretty dang good. At that point we were asking ourselves why we had ordered the linguine because we were both full. We had a couple bites of the pasta, which was very good. The rest of the pasta went into a take home box. They had a 22oz. Ipa for 8 bucks and we split it between the two of us 4 bucks a beer not bad. I highly recommend Christopher's to anyone who enjoys high quality seafood.

Having dinner at Christopher's made our fun getaway on Whidbey island that much more special. We were greeted at the door and offered our choice of tables. Our waiter,Chad was very attentive and took good care of us. The salads were good-the Caesar could have been a little more garlicky. The chef special was devine- two perfectly cooked prawns, a good sized and cooked to perfection piece of steelhead and a nice lamb chop all served over fluffy mashed potatoes and a medley of sauteed vegetables. My date was very impressed with his bacon-wrapped pork tenderloins but what made his meal was the potatoes au gratin served piping hot in an individual serving dish. We ended our meal with a silky lemon sorbet- Just the right amount of tartness. Christopher's is a place we would return to and recommend to others.

Great food, and decently priced for the upscale atmosphere. The portion sizes are pretty generous, too. However, it gets quite busy on weekends, so reservations are the way to go to avoid waiting for a while. In addition to the dinner fare being excellent (gotta go with seafood, it's probably their best offering), their desserts are inventive and superb.

Local Penn Cove Mussels steamed in white wine. This Austrian küchenmeister knows where it's at on Whidbey Island.

hmm, good reviews makes me wonder if we visited on an off day or someone there called in sick. As the reviews indicate, the menu is great as is the food. Generous portions - lunch was fantastic! We had two small kids with us (5 and 3) and it seemed that they are set for kids (special menu and crayons)but the service didn't really show it. The service we received that day was just horrible! We visited around 1pm on a week day and it was about 80% full. There was one waitress and one bus boy for the entire room. We asked multiple times and didn't get water until we got our food. As we were watching the waitress, it seemed that she was servicing all the locals first. It took around 20 min to order even though we promptly identified our meals and closed the menus. When we finally got our meals (about 60 min after we sat down) the kids were over it and I had to get them out of there before they disrupted lunch time for other people. Left the grandparents to finish their meals and pay the check and even though they let the waitress know that the kids and I were in the car, it took her another 20 min to process the check. We frequently go on trips along the islands and are always looking for places to stop and eat. We are always recommending places to our friends as well. It's a shame I can't recommend Christoper's - the food was great but we can't take that kind of chance on the service again. I'm hoping they were just short staffed on that particular day.

This place is fantastic!! Great food, service, and ambience. Try the shrimp gnocchi or lamb shank. Popular place so make a reservation.

We had our first visit to Christopher's on Valentine's Day. If you're a visitor you might want to split an entree as the portion sizes went beyond generous into ridiculous. It's good value if you can take the excess with you. Decor is pleasant, not pretentious but certainly nice enough. Service was fine. The small but servicable wine list is aimed at complementing the meal rather than emptying your wallet. A pleasant guitarist/singer provided music. They gave my wife a rose with the bill, which was a nice touch. The food was delicious. The Penn Cove Mussels appetizer was excellent. You'll never have fresher seafood and the broth had a lot going on but didn't compete with the mussels. I used bread to sop up every last bit. Yum. Then the entrees came out and we did a doubletake. Did I mention that the portions are FREAKING HUGE? I had the seafood stew and wound up leaving half of it. Not because there was anything wrong with it, oh no: it was wonderful. But it was just too much food. I regretted sopping up all the mussel broth. My wife had the smoked salmon on linguine in a tomato-cream sauce and this was also enough food for two people. We could save this so we shared it for lunch the next day. It was almost as good cold as fresh, and that's saying something. We'll certainly return. But with a cooler in the car.

I had the very worst meal I've ever had in my life. The meat was tough, the sauce was a watery beef broth poured over it, too salty, the sauce was also poured over the broccoli and was so awful I couldn't eat that either. I left almost the entire meal uneaten since it was inedible. My partner had a salad that he also left most of. Would never go back, it was really bad on multiple levels. The cook needs to get some advice on recipes.

We live 2 blocks away and dine at Christopher's about every 2-3 months. 2 words come to mind - consistent and generous. They are simply always good! And, you get generous portions. If you are the types that like to share/split a meal, you can easily do this here. We run an Lovejoy Inn B&B just up the hill and this is the first place we recommend to guests. Only complaint, too much food. Price is reasonable, certainly not expensive, especially in light of the quality and amount serviced. Favorites: Penn Cove Mussels - they are in a wine & cream sauce and are amazing. The fillet mignon is great and a great value. Smoked salmon alfredo and seafood alfredo are both excellent and very rich. The house salad is tasty with a nice balsamic dressing and we have heard very positive reviews from our guests about the seafood stew and the warm seafood salad. Good idea to make a reservation for dinner.

Always consistent, always great, great food, ample portions and professional and friendly service. Add the location, and menu and add the flavor of the staff and you have a winning combination. We have been able to send our workshop class dinners there, with up to 18 people and everyone always comes back raving. Whether you send a party of two or a party of twenty, you can't go wrong. Lunch is wonderful from the turkey and havarti grilled sanwich to the garlic soup, to the Penn Cove Mussels. Yum, hat's off the Chef Andreas and staff...

Spare decor, menu looked somewhat expensive until the entrees came -- they were big. Crab cakes weren't a knockout, but snapper on risotto with clams and mussels was good. Pleasant waitress.

Christopher's moved to it's own building at 103 NW Coveland, up a block from the waterfront and next to the Post Office. Still the best food in Coupeville, but a new location. The dining room is bright and airy, but a bit noisy. Service is excellent, and I've never had anything on the menu that disappointed. Lot's of locals make this a regular stop. The mussels and chicken pannini sandwiches are my lunchtime favorites, but the salmon and tenderloin are top notch for dinner.

Excellent service and delicious lunch! I chose to go at lunchtime after reading that the locals love this place. There was a lovely outdoor patio and I was able to get a seat there. I chose the Penn Cove mussels because well, I was staying on Penn Cove! So totally awesome! The server recommended a nice white wine to go with it that was perfect. I highly recommend going!

In my top 5 favorite restaurants ever. I dream about this place and purposely arrange my travel schedule to get back to this place. I personally can't get enough of the mussels. You want a spoon to eat the sauce like soup because it's that good. I also love the seafood pasta. All of the seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection. I have never had anything here that I haven't liked. So good. They will do take-out. If you're going to eat in call ahead for reservations.

The only mussels I've had before eating at Christopher's were the ones you get at all-you-can-eat buffets - the ones that are orange, rubbery, oversized and tasteless. Subsequently, I've never known that mussels can be so delicious. The mussels with white wine and garlic at Christopher's are amazing. It will probably be the best mussels you have ever tasted. And the reason why it tastes so fresh? Their mussels are from Penn Cove Shellfish Company, which is actually located almost literally down the road from Christopher's (same town, Coupeville)! After the first few times eating the mussels, I thought it was so unfortunate to leave behind so much tasty sauce behind. Then, I found out you can add linguine to the mussels. Yelp Tip: Add linguini to the mussels ($4 extra - well worth it!). Every time I have gone here, the service has been great: friendly, helpful and accommodating. The restaurant also feels warm and inviting. Also highly recommend their Penn Cove Seafood Stew. It is overflowing with all kinds of seafood: scallops, prawns, salmon, etc. The tomato broth is light and tasty. It is served with garlic and cheese ciabatta bread. Unfortunately, the bread sounds better than it tastes. For the best mussels you've ever had, huge portions of fresh seafood at very reasonable prices, definitely try Christopher's!

Been here twice and this time had forgotten the first time because it was at night and I was not aware where we were. This time lunch was fabu and my dear friend from NH treated us to some spectacular food. After wandering around today in Coupeville she had pasta and seafood, and my honey had the fish and sweet potato fries. YUM. I had a half sandwich and a salad. We loved the place and learned it is the most favorited in the town by all of the shop owners.

If you're in a mood for some yummy seafood dishes while visiting Whidbey Island, I would recommend making a stop by Christopher's. Not only are the portions big, service here is pretty good and you'll leave the place satisfied. Came here for dinner with a friend and we ordered: mussels, salmon, and the special of the day. For the mussels, these were simply scrumptious. With an option of getting a small or large size of the mussels, these came with a delicious creamy garlic (with a hint of onions) sauce. We got the small size and it was enough for an appetizer (quantity = 20-24 mussels or so for small size). No fishy aftertaste and it was hot and fresh. For the entrees, the salmon was very savory. There was a bbq like sauce on it and the salmon itself was very tender and juicy. For a price of $22, the portion was pretty big and the sides were pretty decent. For the special of the day, it was rockfish served with a few assortments like: mussels (yay more mussels!!), clams, mushrooms, and other veggies. Quite a filling dish! The rockfish was soft and a bit buttery and like the salmon, the portion size was pretty decent. Overall, my friend and I had a great time at this restaurant. I would highly suggest calling in and making a reservation, especially on the weekends since this place is popular with both locals and tourists.

Read all the reviews. Staying at The Blue Goose B&B and short on choices for a nice dinner out. Made a reservation (recommended, as there is limited seating.) We were seated 20 minutes early. Waitress was Sarah. Service and food were superior! I hadn't had muscles in 10 years. They were the best I have ever had. Very tender and delicate...smooth and not at all fishy. Devine. My husband raved about the fondue. Sarah was informative and personable. The pork medalians were tender and the New York Steak flavorable and tender. An overall great meal.

I had the mussels with linguini, delicious! We sat outside and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Huge portions, and prices lower than you would expect. It seemed like everyone was walking out with a to-go box! The food was good, although my pork medallions were a bit overdone. Good wine list, and you will like the $24 fire sale options. Had no room to even look at the dessert menu. Servers were good, but they were a bit understaffed that night. Acoustics make it very noisy.

Food is fantastic but we were EXTREMELY disappointed in the service. Made a reservation and we're still seated 45 minutes later. Then the waitress didn't take our order until 35 minutes after that and we were not brought bread or anything. Food also took very very long to bring out. In addition my sister and I told her we were sharing and they only brought out one plate. Not great after we were already annoyed and hungry. Also saw the waitress tend to other tables faster even though we were seated before. Will not go back and will not recommend.

Mediterranean plate, salmon linguine, garden salad, warm bread, hot fudge sundae, and cab-sav. Wonderful meal. Well worth the drive/ferry from the mainland. Service was both good and bad. Extremely friendly, but not very attentive. Make reservations!

Friends and I came here to race half/full marathon on Whidbey Island. We got on the island on Saturday afternoon, drove the course, and decided to have dinner here. When we walked in with our running shirts on, we felt so under dressed! It's obviously one of the high end restaurants on the island. It looks like people came here for dates, porn night dinner, etc. It's certainly a big carb load dinner. A lot of bread before the meal and a big plate full of noodles with a piece of grilled salmon and clams on top. I definitely loved the pasta, marathoner's special I got. It also came with a side salad. I was happy that It's balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The service was great. They set up a table for our group 8-10 runners. And, the end, they also split the bill. It's very accommodating! We would definitely come back here again if I get to come here again!

  • Dimitri J.

The atmosphere was noisy, crowded and the tables were small. The wine was alright. The clam in the clam chowder was way over cooked. We tried the lamb and salmon dish and it was absolutely horrendous. The lamb tasted like it was covered in Ragu sauce and the salmon was bland and fishy, not seasoned at all. The couscous that the salmon and lamb sat on was very bland and overcooked. Would not recommend.

The food is delicious, and the service is impeccable and unpretentious. Unfortunately I live 3,000 miles away, so this is where I shout my praises from the rooftops. We are traveling with our 12 month old son. He has been a champ for the most part, but we really pushed his limits with our dinner plans tonight. He was sleepy and on a short fuse. Our server, Sarah, was so kind and helpful. She never once looked frustrated with us while we tried to calm our son. (We were sitting outside, fortunately not near any other guests.) Ultimately, he started melting down and we had to ask for our entrees to go. She was so gracious and quick to box up our meals along with utensils and extra bread. Did I mention how delicious the food was? OMG EAT THE MUSSELS. My only regret is that the ambiance of our hotel balcony wasn't quite up to that of Christopher's. But our meal was otherwise perfect! You should definitely eat here if you find yourself in Coupeville.

So many good things to say about Christopher's. Big spinach salad with lots of fresh berries, yummy salmon, and an amazing brownie with salted caramel ice cream. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to our requests. Would recommend a visit of in the area.

Christopher's is one of those places that gives you two meals for the price of one. That's not because of any special deal (that I know of), it's because the portions are that darn large. Good thing it's tasty! The staff is pretty friendly, to boot.

If you are in Coupeville you have to try this place! I went here with my husband and brother and loved everything we tried. We had the fondue appetizer, which is well recommended. I didn't taste anything I didn't like. I had the pesto gnocchi and it was delicious! For dessert the dark chocolate mousse was awesome. We took the cookie and ice cream home for later and it was an excellent cookie that the chef's wife makes. I highly recommend eating here.

This place has excellent food. Their soups, salads, sandwiches are all excellent. The garlic and clam chowder soups are really special. It is a little noisy. And it is usually full so go early or make a reservation. This would be the best place to have lunch in downtown Coupeville.

Walked in to a horrible experience, The hostess, EMMA was about as rude as I have ever met!!! The told us we could not go near the bar to purchase a beverage while we waited. There was one seat and my husband was going to stand, while we waited for a seat to become available. She said, "you are going to have to leave, there is only one seat at the bar." Reallly? I have never ever heard of anything like this. The bar should be the gathering area, not a formal dining area! We left and went elsewhere (to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary!). Hopefully EMMA will get some manners!

Lets just say this. "If you do not try Christopher's you will be missing out on some outstanding food and dining" I recommend making reservations especially during weekend evenings. But, I am sure they will do their best to get you a seat if you just happen to be in the neighborhood.

I've been a fan of Christopher's since they were on Front Street. Despite being a pretty nice place, they always make an effort to accommodate larger parties or families with children by bringing bread and/or coloring books. Great, local seafood and an awesome place for a date.

I planned our trip for my girlfriend's around Penn Cove Mussels --funny idea but i was serious about it. Our host at the Whidwood gave us the rec. We were super happy with it! The mussels did not disappoint- I wish we would've ordered more:)-locally harvested and with the most amazing garlic cream sauce we've ever had. We were feeling totally indecisive and ambiguous about wine that day and could not decide for ourselves. Our server swooped in like a superhero and intuitively brought us a beautiful bottle of local Lemberger wine from Whidbey Island Winery- a perfect choice and expertly delivered. These ladies are serious wine buffs. They brought us a candle on our cheesecake when we told them it was her birthday. So special.:) We can't wait to visit again.

Lunch today reinforced my ongoing impression: Christopher's continues to deliver excellent food and service. Two of us had the satisfying seafood stew. Two of us had the fish and chips (cod and sweet potato cross-cut fries). The stew is unfailingly good. The fried fish was nice and light and hit the spot.

I'm from the east coast and I've had mussels before, but I never really had mussels until I came to Christopher's. Their mussel dish is honestly the best thing I've had on the island. I took my parents when they visited and made them get the mussels and they talked about it for the rest of their time here.

We were here with 6 close friends over Memorial Day weekend. Such an enjoyable meal! The service was fantastic and the mussels! OMG the mussels! We ordered one as an app to share as a couple, our friends tasted them and we ordered 2 more for the table! We will definitely return and recommend!

This rounds out the last place I went to while I was on the island... It was rated high and I thought it would be a good place to go. Nice modern pleasant dining room.. there is no view of the water so if that's what you want, it's not a good place to go. Talking to the wait staff.. we asked for recommendations.. probably not the best idea because pretty much they told us everything was good. This was because we realized she was the owner. Service was pretty slow.. so that was something that was irritating. They did one of the orders wrong and so that person had to wait even longer for their steak. Ordered: - Calamari - It was bad.. looked good but don't recommend it. - Mussels - It was pretty large portioned if you get the full even when we were splitting amongst three people. More creamy that I would like. - Salad - It comes with the meal.. nothing that great to be honest. - Seafood soup - I thought the soup that although pretty, was not tasty. Just seemed like they took tomato broth and boiled seafood in there. Frankly I wasn't too impressed with this place. It is a more upscale place than say Flyer's.

I've lived on Whidbey for eight years and by far Christopher's is my favorite restaurant on island. I enjoy the modern intimate setting and views of Penn cove. I have come with a large party 8+ on two occasions and the wait staff has been amazing. I love the fresh local food and the seasonal specials the chef comes up with. The Mussel's are a must if that's all you try. We almost always finish off the meal with Chocolate mousse with chocolate sauce (a ginormous serving, enough for 2 people) Just a note for out of towner's , with Christopher's being in the top 5 restaurants on Island and a small seating area, if you are running late or have a party 4+ I suggest you call for a reservation and enjoy!

Hands down, favorite restaurant for mussels! I've had other very delicious things there, but that is always my go to! The mussels are unlike anything I've had on the island yet, they do cook them in tasty ways for specials too! Took my in-laws here when they were visiting, they talked about how good the mussels were for the rest of their trip! Can't wait to take the rest of my family when they visit!

One of our best meals ever! Wonderful service.Bobbi and the other wait staff were great! Super delicious dinner. The mussels we had was the best ever. We kept sopping up the broth with the yummy bread provided. The dark Belgian chocolate mousse was outstanding and generous in size. Highly recommend!

The lunch every time we've been here for that is absolutely amazing. That's why they are receiving the 4 star review. The roasted garlic soup and clam chowder are the best I have ever had. We have made special trips just for those 2 items. The dinner however was unimpressive for the asking price. They don't make the gnocchi in house, which forbme is a deal breaker. I got the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with seasonal vegtabled and cheddar au gratin potatoes. The vegetables were cold while the plate was scalding. The potatoes were overly greasy. The tenderloin was chewy but seasoned well. 2 of my kids got ravioli and $8.00 a plate I would expect more than 5 pieces. Overall unimpressed with dinner, skip dinner and plan your trip for lunch.

Delicious. We made reservations this past weekend for Saturday night, sat outside with a view of Penn Cove, and enjoyed dessert first. Desserts: - Warm apple crepe with candied walnuts, caramel sauce, and "Kapaws" vanilla ice cream - Chocolate mousse with chocolate sauce (a ginormous serving, enough for 2 people) Starter: - Wild mushroom and cheese fondue: hot and gooey with earthy mushroom flavor Dinner: - Scampi: Shrimp and scallops with shaved parmesan, butter, garlic, and herbs over linguine: Huge scallops and shrimp, fragrant garlicky sauce - NY steak (10 oz): Pepper-crusted with roasted onions, garlic, green beans, carrots, mushrooms in red wine glaze and sweet potato fries - rich and caramelly Yummy, yummy, yummy... If you sit inside, it can get pretty noisy. Glad we chose to sit outside.

Christopher is a nice upscale-ish place in Coupeville. A nice dining room and pleasant service. We usually head over there for a nice lunch after a hike at Ebeys landing. The chowder is my favorite. Really creamy and delicious- that in itself is a perfect light NW meal. We were there a couple of weeks ago and noticed a new offering that we thought was a good thing we will try out. Pairings menu which included a bottle of wine and either appetizer or dessert for around $30. Love Christopher's

Went here for dinner with my family. Started off with the mussels. So good that my wife practically drank the sauce. She mentioned that they were not shy with the garlic. Loved it. My parents and I had the special of the day which was copper river salmon on a bed of shrimp risotto. The portion was huge and absolutely delicious. I was actually pretty stuffed halfway through but it's a sin to waste good food like this. The wife ordered shrimp and scallop scampi. Again she mentioned that they weren't shy with the garlic here either. Although I was stuffed, I ended up helping her finish her meal. So good. Fresh ingredients. Great food. Great service. Fair prices.

My daughter came here from Seattle for an early Easter lunch with us. We took her to Christofers. I had fish and sweet potato fries. The fish was so thin, just a lot of coating. The fries were overdone, hard , could not eat them. My daughter got salad, that was good but the tomato soup was not. Had a funny taste.

Caesar salad is the real deal, with an excellent dressing in all its tangy garlicky anchovy goodness. I love it with extra anchovies on the side. Caesar Cardini would be proud!

Ate at Christophers for the first time a couple of days ago. We had the nightly special which was a four course meal for two for $48. The meal included muscles, salad, Coho salmon on rigatoni pasta followed by a nice desert. I highly recommend this restaurant

Let's start with first impressions ... I arrived early at 11:45 a.m. and had to share a table. Ok ... I can do that. I had heard the clam chowder was excellent. It was very good, but not any better than Ivar's that you can get on the Ferry! I ordered the warm Couscous Salad. Nice concept, good fresh ingredients, but the sauce tasted like Spaghetti sauce. Actually pretty disappointing. I am bummed.

I decided to review restaurants where I live, here on beautiful Whidbey Island, for those of you who may be visiting on vacation. Christopher's is another one of my favorites. The food is excellent and is the main reason for the five stars. I have never had anything that I didn't love, both for main entrée and dessert. The other reviews here are accurate regarding the freshness and excellence of the seafood. If you are on a diet you can still luxuriate in a nearly fat free warm seafood salad or Penn Cove seafood stew. They will even serve up extremely thin crepes full of delicious berries without the extra sauce and ice cream, so dieters can even have a bit of something sweet. For those whose spouses (like mine) are not into seafood, ALL of the burgers and sandwiches are delicious. His favorites are turkey and havarti grilled sandwich, the Angus burger, and the steak sandwich. You can also choose chicken or steak instead of seafood for the linguini dishes. My favorite meal is local white wine with Wild mushroom and cheese fondue appetizer, grilled wild salmon in raspberry sauce, and any of the desserts, but especially the apple or berry crepes. Atmosphere is casual but evening is candlelit and you can dress nice if you feel sexy that night, and still fit in. The room is small and intimate, but not uncomfortably so. No view but excellent customer service and the small town is nice to walk in after your meal and you can view all you want ;) Seats are comfortable and service is good. If it's Friday or Saturday make reservations because the locals eat here too. Menu changes and restaurant closes between lunch and dinner. True bite of the Pacific NW

Went here for a not-so-wild-and-crazy bachelorette dinner. There were 7 of us including one late arrival. The staff were very accommodating getting our table set up (we did have a res). It's nice because other restaurants can get hung up on stuff like that and they chose to make our night special for us, including a complementary dessert for the bride to be. Also, our server not only separated our checks but split the bride's bill too, so she didn't have to pay and we could each pick up a portion of her tab. Above and beyond, man! I was worried this would be a stuffy overpriced dinner. I was wrong. The food was good (with large portions) and the service was enjoyable. I hope to go back.

My hubby and I came here for the first time for a much needed date night out. I felt this restaurant was wonderful. Peaceful, relaxing environment. Friendly staff. Our food was wonderful. What I liked about it was our waitress was right on point. Appetizer, salads and entree were given to us in perfect timing, not one on top of the other like at other places. Very smooth evening. The piano player was also a great touch. We will definitely be back.

We went Christopher's for dinner. The place is pretty and loved window table. I had Braise lamb ribs and wild salmon risotto which is just amazing!!!! I will go back to try other dishes.

Taken here for my Bday. What a wonderful surprise! I LOVED the Salmon dish, probably the very best I can ever remember. So much so, that I returned a few weeks later. Sadly, not quite as good (less meat and more greens) as the first time but still wonderful. (A different chef I'm told.) Nice place, great service, small town where most know each other, the size portions are generous. Several dishes looked very good. Granted I was with a 'local' who knew everyone including the chef. The place was absolutely packed (we had reservations) yet our service was very good. Everyone at the table said their dish was great.

You gotta get their mussels with cream sauce and lots of bread to soak it up. Salmon pasta was delicious! A but pricey but that's to be expected.

Great clam chowder, love the small russets, great clam flavor, passed the spoon test (it falls over). Mussels steamed with wine, lemon wedge and lots of fresh garlic, maybe a little too much garlic. We split a small, it is plenty. Save your spoon for the abundant steaming sauce! Service by Jeannie and Kelsey was tops. Affordable wine list, too. Wish there was a view!

Quite horrible business model. We came in for lunch at 1:55 pm on a Saturday, their posted Lunch hours are until 2:30 pm. The restaurant was half full at best. We were told that they could not accommodate us. We won't be trying this restaurant ever.

Christopher's is outstanding. They were more then willing to accommodate my vegan diet, offering many choices, most not on the menu. They made a wonderful vegetable Risotto outstanding. My husband had a pasta dish also delicious. Small side salad and bread came with our meals. Very Good, very friendly, helpful service and great attitudes for special diets and requests!!

Tasty food, and big portions. Service is friendly, and very reasonably priced. Definitely one of the better restaurants on Whidbey.

A longtime Whidbey institution, Christopher's on Whidbey is a hit - and - miss dining experience, but overall, I'd say it's worth the visit, but only just so. WHAT WORKS: The dining space is light and airy but not terribly intimate. Overpriced pieces by local artists adorn the walls. Overall, it's sort of like someone tried to replicate a Shari's. The clam chowder is a real delight! Not heavy or thick, with nicely diced potatoes and lots of clams. CoW doesn't resort to the common 'cheat' of throwing in bacon for extra richness. Just a wonderful clam taste here. Portions are 'Fred Flinstone'-sized generous, which makes is a good value for the trencherman or someone who wants to take half home and have two meals for the price of one. Also, they don't gouge you on wine prices. WHAT DIDN'T: Lamb shanks were a bit tough and mutton-y. Service, while pleasant, had bizarre pacing and more hiccups than one should expect at this price point. For no good reason, two of us were brought our chowder, and the other two guests watched us eat it. Then they brought one guests salad, and so the three of us watched her eat that (is there any reason why the chowders & salad couldn't have been brought at the same time?). One guest's entree salad was completely forgotten, so she had to watch us eat our entrees while the kitchen frantically banged out the overlooked item. To their credit, they did bring us a complimentary dessert to make up for it (AFTER they asked us if we wanted dessert, and we declined because we were full - #WhatTheHeck??), so you should give them credit for having their hearts in the right place, even if the execution was a bit ham-handed. THE VERDICT: An interesting menu with good value for money and some standout individual offerings is offset by amateur-hour service goofs and occasionally lackluster execution. Still worth a visit, but only because it's a relatively big fish in a small pond. It's only really competition on the Fine Dining front in town is The Oystercatcher. Coupeville is still a bit sleepy, and the serious foodie action seems to be in Langley and Oak Harbor.

I would potentially rate this place higher if I was actually allowed to eat at this restaurant. My family and I came to this restaurant about 30 minutes before the restaurant was closing for lunch and because we were a "group of 5" we couldn't be seated and served.

Was quite impressed on our first visit. Got the dinner for two for only 48 bucks. Not bad for Seattle area. Mussel in a cream sauce were amazingly good, then a small Caesar salad with the Caesar dressing done just right. A hint of anchovies and lemon. Entree of Salmon on a bed of rice with. .???. Was done right. Desert of Ice cream on cobbler/pie berry drizzled with warm Carmel sauce decorated sliced apples. Yum , Great , we will return...

This is the second time I've tried to eat here and both times I was turned away. We got here 40 minutes before closing and they refused to seat us. Don't think I'll try to eat here again.

Immediately upon arrival the restaurant is pleasant and staff is attentive. We ordered the calamari which was a twist on the original and not deep fried. My husband doesn't eat cheese and ordered no cheese on both the salad and his pasta. His salad came with cheese and he didn't complain. When the pasta had cheese that was a bigger issue. They then proceeded to just remove the cheese from the dish vs. fix something fresh. Cheese still remained. When this was brought to their attention the wait staff became defense and then commented, "The calamari appetizer had cheese." Correct, and we never asked for that dish to come without it. I found this to be poor customer service and the wrong reaction to a customer concern on a $20 pasta dish!? It's pasta, and if done incorrectly it should be fixed. Overpriced food accompanied by subpar service.

Clean, inviting, delicious! I ate lunch here today (flatbread salmon special) and I was very satisfied. I was taking a solo road trip and craving good seafood. My waiter was very friendly and attentive. Food was timely and well presented. I am a chef and restaurant owner, this was worthy of my establishment. Well done Christopher's.

My boyfriend and I went here on a whim for lunch one day, and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and the service was good. It was a late lunch on a Friday about 2:30 pm, and the place wasn't very busy, but again it was late in the afternoon. We sat at the bar and had some wine with our lunch. We both ordered the Tomato Cream Soup, and I think it was one of the best soups I've had. I had the half order Grilled Turkey and Havarti Sandwich, it came on sour dough bread which is my favorite. My boyfriend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which had an excellent pesto mayo on it and came on a ciabatta roll.

Had lunch here on our weekend on Whidbey, and it was great. Their clam chowder was very flavorful, bordering on almost too rich, but delicious. I had the reuben, which I loved. I have a weakness for a good reuben, but this was amazing. The pastrami was perfect, no big chunks of fat that can often accompany a lower quality version. I loved the sauerkraut and their dressing was great as well. The best part though was the thick rye bread they used to serve it on. My wife had the steak sandwich, cooked to order. Decent fat marbling throughout, and the grilled tomatoes and red peppers were good enough for me to steal a few. Service was awesome, very quick and nice (I love it when a server seems genuinely happy to have you in their establishment, makes a big difference), and we finished it off with the cookie (baked in a creme brule dish, brilliant) with vanilla ice cream on top. Definitely recommended!

Great service Waitresses were friendly, attentive, and thoughtful. Best house salad I've ever had Balsamic vinaigrette dressing was tasty and not too sour and the ingredients were fresh. Penn cove mussels were flavorful and enough to feed 2 people. Seafood was not overcooked. Will definitely return again!!

Nice restaurant. The food was really good and the service was great! The restaurant was pretty busy, so make reservations if possible. I don't think they had enough servers to support the number of guests. We had to wait longer than expected for our meal to come and the whole dinner took 1.5 hours...a little longer than I expected. I like to get in and out in no more than about 1 hour. On a good note, the clam chowder was excellent! We will be back!

Perfectly cooked mussels in a delicious garlic wine sauce. Delicate and elegant clam chowder worth a special trip. Hearty tomato soup with prawn. Generous portion of excellent crab cakes with yummy sides. We were only sorry we did not have room for dessert. Would 100% return for another meal.

Christopher's is a fine place to stop for lunch or dinner in the pretty little town of Coupville. The food they serve is premium and competitively priced, the menu looks small at first glance but it gets straight to the point and is simple and unique. The outdoor seating is very nice and the location is easy to find and classy. My experience was good overall and although I was happy with the service that my waiter provided, he had a mannerism and dress that I found inappropriate and offensive, this was not a deal breaker I just expect more form a fancy place like this.

We ordered the bacon wrapped pork, chicken with apricot sauce, and a seafood stew. All were to die for!! Great service and delicious food. We were told the salmon was out, so I did not think I would get much in the soup. Was I wrong! Huge chunks Of the best salmon I've ever had. Great way to end our week on WI.

I've tried seafood stews on and off for years knowing that they can be great. At other places I've tried they usually get three things right and two wrong with it. Christopher's Penn Cove Seafood Stew was perfect all around, best I've found in the last 10 years. The mussels, clams, chunks of fish, and scallops were all cooked perfectly and not rubbery. The broth, well, I could have just had that alone as a soup - I ended up slurping up as much as I could even though I was full on the generous amount of seafood. The rest of the dining experience was great as well. I'd definitely recommend reservations, those that showed up without them did have to wait a while.

Decided to check out Christopher's with my girlfriend based on positive Yelp reviews--we had no problem finding a table at 5:15 on a Saturday (afternoon appy and pint @ Toby's Tavern beforehand). On the topic that counts, we found the mussels at Toby's superior--fresher tasting, and preferable sauce (much less creamy/rich). That said, the mixed greens salad (with steak) was excellent, as was the the Caesar calamari (my favorite). Overall, excellent value--and without holding grudge for not providing the tastiest mussels of my life (Toby's)--a solid 4 stars.

We had an excellent meal at Christopher's. we arrived around 7pm and there was only seating left outside. We took that, out actually seemed better because inside was filled bringing up the noise volume. We had excellent mussels as an appetizer, the bread that they serve was also very good, so good I ate too much of it. We had the seafood stew was was incredible and way too much to eat after the appetizer, salad and bread. And the of course We had to try the Chocolate mousse which was amazing and a very healthy portion. I will definitely be back to Christopher's next time I go out to dinner on Whidbey Island

We were staying at Fort Worden and went to Coupeville for the day with a friend from Sequim.Did some shopping and asked where the best mussels. We were told that the best were at Christophers,so went up there. Turned out that we had eaten there several years ago and had liked it.We got in right away and got our drink orders done, ooppss, she got the wife's order and took off before the rest of us could order ours. Ok,so now for the food, the wife ordered the i/2 sandwich and salad. It came and the sandwich was huge and very salty and overly buttered and barely warm, while the caesar salad was the dinner salad instead with the wrong dressing also. She also had the garlic soup, which was just ok. We tried to order lunch for her son who is very picky and only eats certain things and they not only have no substitutions, but most of their items are premade and portion controlled,so he had to settle for a glass of pepsi and when asked for a refill was told that they charge for them.C'mon, not even Anthony's does that.We did get him an excellent hot dog down at the little stand on the corner.I had the clam chowder which had plenty of potatoes, clams and bacon, but was salty and kinda cool.I also had the special which had VERY LARGE ceasar salad and an open face sandwich with grilled rye bread,a big slab of salmon, some kind of thin cheese sauce with artichokes and some other veggies and melted mozzarella on top of that. Not a lot of flavor except for the ceasar salad dressing which was salty and too much vinegar. Our friend ordered the warm seafood salad which was actually very good with lots of seafood and veggies in a marinara sauce over salad greens. Now that was kind of weird and made for some VERY limp and soggy greens. BUT,the rest of the stew (?) was excellent. We were going to have desert, but decided not to chance it.

Had dinner at Christopher's with my husband and sister in law's family. The restaurant was more than accommodating to us. My niece and brother in law have celiac disease and the restaurant was more than happy to work with their dietary needs. Also, it was great to find a restaurant that offered good kid menu options while still satisfying big "foodies" like my husband and I!! The portions are big, so go hungry or share. My seafood strew was awesome....it was a huge serving and loaded with fresh seafood. Couldn't believe the price was only 22.00!! Thank you Christopher's for great experience!!!

My wife and I are here last night for the first time. The service was nice, the facility clean and the food could be classified as some of Whidbey's best. I had the Lamb Shank and my wife had the Salmon. I highly recommend this place. I suggest making reservations since they book up fast. Again, I thank everyone at Christopher's for showing us a nice time and a very good meal.

I had the salmon with berry "barbeque sauce" and my wife had the ravioli and sausage. Her food was absolutely delicious! Raviolis were the right size, the meat was cooked slowly in the sauce which was creamy and tomato-y, and the spinach was added at just the right time to not lose the flavor and become completely bland. Just right, awesome dish this one! My dish was not bad, not stellar ... . To be honest, the sauce was a letdown. Salmon is naturally flavorful and good salmon (which this was) doesn't need a lot of toppings to make it delicious. I also found it too sweet for the fish. Seriously, Christopher's, you can do better than this. Everything else was cooked to perfection, and the fish itself was beautiful AFTER I scraped off the mounds of too-sweet barbeque sauce. Juicy, and salmon flavor is awesome. Not a big gripe, I know, but this place ain't cheap, so I expect a little more refinement. Service was spot on, and everyone was courteous. Great job, just ditch the too-sweet sauces!

I write this completely disappointed in Christopher's. I have been there many many times in the past and thoroughly enjoyed my food and experience with the staff. The last time I went was not the case. I had made a reservation for four with two of my guests being from out of the country. Our reservation was for 7pm and we walked through the door at 7:02. We waited for a few minutes and were not greeted and could not find wait staff. After that, a female employee came to the reservation book and told us (without apology) that it was going to be a few minutes and she was checking to see if our table was ready. It was clearly not, as we could see only one empty table to seat four still dirty from the previous party. After another five minutes at the front door (while the rest of the patrons were looking at us half standing half sitting) waitstaff had still not cleaned our table or offered apologies. We ended up walking out as it was so embarrassing continuing to wait as the rest of the restaurant pitied us. I'm sad to say I will not be returning because this was one of my favorite places in the area. No matter how good the food is, it cannot make up for poor service. They had my name and number in the reservation book, and the waitress that saw us walk out made eye contact. They had the opportunity to call afterwards and apologize, but I suppose they have too much business walking through the door to worry about making their loyal customers happy.

On a whim, we decided to go here. Never heard of it unfortunately and just wanted to get away from the lame options in Oak Harbor. So we went. It's a nice quaint restaurant, and the quality of the food exceeds expectations. We were greeted by Jeanie, a very very friendly and helpful hostess. She was so sweet, telling us about the specials and what we may and may not like. At that time they were offering a couple 4 course dinner for only 21.00 a person...or something around there. And we thought heck that's a great deal let's do that. Everything look good on the menu and this would be a good choice so that we could get a good sample of the food. Now my husband and I eat out a lot and usually these pre-set meals, will not always 1.) Have the BEST options on the menu and 2.) The serving size will not be HUGE..which is fine, because we ARE light eaters and wouldnt mind the smaller proportions. So we went ahead with it... Firstly- proportions sizes are HUGGGE! Normal dinner, if not bigger serving sizes. Secondly every single thing they whipped out was divine. We started off with the PEN COVE mussels which is a MUST MUST MUST try. The cream white wine broth is to die to for. When the mussels were done I kept dipping their bread in it, and drank it like soup. Jeanie was so nice, she kept refilling our bread basket with warm bread. She was very attentive. The salad and dinner entree were great, very fresh, very rich, and you really get much more than you pay for. AND THEN THE DESSERT HAPPENED. Made my CHRIS in the back. Absolutely the BEST chocolate mousse I have had. HANDS DOWN. So creamy, smooth, rich with flavor, everything was just divine about that chocolate mousse. I have travelled quiet a bit and have perfected my chocolate mousse over the years, which is my signature dish but this was better than mine and I now know I have to tweak mine a bit more. Anyways, go there just for the mussels if not for the whole dinner, or the bread even, OR just for dessert if nothing else go over there to say hi to Jeanie, she's so warm. Must try place, I definitely recommend, wish I discovered this place sooner.

Great food. I shared the mussels, steak sandwich and clam chowder. The mussels (in white wine sauce) were amazing--I would be happy eating just this for a long time, as long as I have bread to soak up the sauce. The clam chowder was also really good. I wasn't a fan of the steak sandwich--it basically consists of two pieces of toasted bread, covered in mustard and cheese, with a large piece of steak on top of it, and really can't be eaten as a sandwich. The mustard overpowered the other flavors for me.

We love ferrying over to Whidbey for mussels at Christopher's, which are amazingly fresh and good. Their steak sandwich is a bit clunky - essentially a full steak between two pieces of break - but amazing with the melted cheese, roasted peppers, and mustard.

Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing experience. I got the clam chowder & a house salad with chicken, and my husband got the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with veggies & au gratin style potatoes. So happy with everything. We will definitely be coming back.

We went to Christopher's for a friends birthday after calling to check that they could accommodate specific food allergies. As a person with Celiac disease I can't tolerate gluten, the salad I ordered came with a breadstick jammed in the middle like a flagpole, I told the waitress (very nicely) that it wasn't gluten free and I would get very sick if I ate any of the salad, could they please remake it. It came back 10 min later and looked different enough that I was fooled into eating it. I was sick for a week! I had ordered something that was naturally gluten free and they had to go out of their way to poison it, the waitress had assured me twice that the salad was remade. If they were dealing with a nut allergy someone could have died.

After our local contact said, " Christopher's is my first and second choice out of three choices," we thought we would drop in on a weekend evening in peak tourist season for dinner. Rating our odds at far less than 50-50, we walked in to find that they always hold 5 places along the short bar between the dining room and the open view kitchen for walk- in adventurers. Soon it was clear that this was just one great feature of a smooth operation. Wait staff was local, friendly, knowledgable, and willing to give great advice on portion size and wine choice ( I love it when a waiter down sells me when I go overboard with a bountiful menu and is right. ) That close to Penn Cove, we stared with a 10 oz order of mussels @ $11.00. The broth was a subtle, light cream sauce seasoned with aromatics and diced leak. Our waiter made sure we had enough fresh French bread to take advantage of it. We then had a house salad, about a cup of mixed greens with thin sliced root vegetables and vinaigrette. The menu salmon, served with a raspberry sauce was next for one @$20.00 and a hot seafood salad with a full dinner serving of clams, mussels, salmon chunks and shrimp in a lightly spiced fresh tomato based dressing for the other @ $17.00. ( see picture). Both of us were thrilled with our picks and glad to have given up on other menu choices. Wines by the glass include 3-4 white and 4-5 red varietals and each measured pour was at least 6 oz. The dessert board had 6-7 hand written options and tears were shed as we realized it had been a choice of the mussels vs. dessert and we already ate the mussels. We will return to explore the dessert menu on another night.

Quite frankly, the best dining experience on the Island. The staff take pride in what they do, service is excellent and the food is consistently of high quality. I particularly enjoy the seafood stew, fresh and frankly, the best to be found on the Island. Lunch and Dinner prices are very reasonable, particularly considering the generous portions.

My BF and I went on a Tuesday night and the place was packed! There were two servers, who were busting their butts. Honestly, other restaurants should take notes because everything came out on time, was perfectly cooked and was a decent price. We will definitely be going to this place more often!

I've never eaten inside of Christopher's, but my family ordered a huge amount of takeout food over the weekend while in Coupeville. The food was SUPER good. There was this amazing salad with chickpeas and a fantastically thick and tasty dressing. The salmon was to die for! Looking at the menu online, it was definitely the salmon with the raspberry BBQ sauce - it was sweet and smokey at the same time. A really great combination. We also had some wild rice and veggies, which were cooked perfectly and tasted quite good. There was fresh baked bread and butter as well - some of the best bread I've had from a restaurant in a long time. I'd really like to come back and eat in the restaurant because if this takeout order was any indication, they must have some really fantastic food.

I love you, Christopher's. First you pour me a deelicious glass of SIX dollar wine. Yes. In Seattle, that would be $11 and a snooty expression on the side. Then you woo me with perfectly cooked salmon. A bed of risotto so amazing, the Hapa Boy almost stabbed me with his fork to keep me out of his plate [I joke. He's a good food share-er. Most of the time.] Then you seal the deal with the best dessert I've ever eaten. Homemade chocolate chip bar cookies - still warm - with incredible vanilla ice cream. You're a keeper, Christopher's. We'll be back.

I had a great salad here--the mixed greens salad with a better-than-average balsamic dressing, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, shaved apples, & gorgonzola. It was huge. DH had a Caesar that was very good too, along with a cup of chowder. A delish chewy sourdough bread was served with buttah. Very filling and the service was attentive and friendly. Love that Coupeville town!

Recommendations from locals lead me here. Crisp salad and be sure to ask them to add the ultra crunchy croutons to make the salad perfect. I am sure they make those croutons from the top notch hot French bread they serve. I ordered their entree' of the day: true cod with Penn cove mussels and rice pilaf. The cod was lightly breaded and flaky. The mussels were good but a few in the bunch were sandy, which disturbed part of my meal. Nevertheless, I felt that the prices were reasonable and I had a fun dinner there to finish my day visit to the island. I would recommend a visit here but be sure to make reservations as the locals love it here.

I've never been disappointed here. Consistent quality from a chef/owner that puts care and effort into every detail. And the prices are very reasonable for the quality received. Casual fine dining like nowhere else on North Whidbey. The Penn Cove mussels are a must.
