Fantastic brewpub. Awesome atmosphere. Will definitely return. Found this place randomly when driving back from Maine. I'd heard of harpoon beer before and figured we could drop in for lunch. Was definitely not disappointed. My burger was amazing and the beer was great. There were all kinds of people in the pub as well. Hikers, bikers, business people taking meetings, it was really to cool to see such a wide demographic. I had an awesome time here and will definitely return, possibly making the 8 hour drive just to return to harpoon.

I really enjoyed the tour here! We've come before but this was our first time doing the tour, and I think they do it the right way. Interesting information, a look at the process, and lots of samples :) What I like about this place: -Great place to hang out outside. There are cornhole games, life-sized chess, picnic tables, live music, and more. You can grab a beer, some quick food, wine and cheese- really anything, and hang out here with friends or family. -You can try up to 4 2oz samples of whatever is on tap for free before buying a beer or cider. This is in addition to any tastings on your tour :) -Tour guides are funny -You get to try an IPA at two different points in the process during the tour, and it's cool to compare the taste -At the end of the tour you get to choose what to try (of what's on tap) -There is a restaurant with decent food if you want a sit-down meal. The pulled pork nachos are good! -pumpkin cider. Yum! Overall, a fun brewery experience, even if Harpoon isn't your favorite beer (although I have definitely found some Harpoon favorites thanks to this place!)

Hefeweissen, cider, Octoberfest were good. The 100 Barrel Nordic Saison was great! We also enjoyed the Reuben with homemade kraut, chicken Caesar salad, and the vinegary pulled pork sandwich. Nice place to stop if you're in the area or were just at the Simon Pearce outlet.

Beautiful Location, Tasty beers, happening restaurant with amazing food and if you like cheese tastings then there's a store right across the garden for that as well. The tour was informative and staff was super friendly. All the beers were above average but I definitely loved their UFO and pumpkin Ale. We sat on the tables outside and while waiting for the food we played board games which were free! The food was okay but then we took our beers and sat around the fire place pit and had fresh pizza from the little open fireplace pizza shop right next to the cheese store. Overall experience was very pleasant and I will definitely go there again.

Five! As always for all! Beer, food, tour, service, seating inside/outside whatever the season!

Solid place to stop at while passing through NH / Vermont on interstate 91. The tour itself costs $5 per person, for those ages over 21, and runs about 45 minutes, with 15 minutes for tasting at the end. You'll hear the history of Harpoon Brewery and it's humble Boston beginnings, to the acquisition of the former Catamount Brewery facility in Windsor, Vermont. You'll learn about beer ingredients, the beer making process and visit the cold storage room (refreshing on a hot summer day). You get a Harpoon tasting glass (which you keep at the end of the tour), and about 15 minutes to try as many beers as they have on tap in their tasting room (probably about 10-15 beers on tap). Be sure to try the beers only available at the brewery! We arrived at 12:45pm, 15 minutes before the 1pm tour. We had our 3 kids with us and we had originally only planned to stop for lunch. The hostess mentioned she'd reserve us an outdoor table for when the 2pm tour wrapped up (very nice touch). While on the tour, the kids enjoyed wearing the safety goggles and the root beer tasting offered to them (again, very nice touch at no charge and the kids got to keep their glasses). Lunch was standard bar food -- the only true stand out was the Vermonter Sandwich, which was excellent (turkey, green apple slices, red onion slices, bacon, Vermont cheddar and spicy mustard on a grilled panini). The Vermont burgers were OK, but not great but was happy to hear they use local farm raised Vermont beef. Restaurant service was OK. Gift shop has $20 T-shirts and $75 biking jerseys, both which I thought were overpriced but I got the T-shirt anyhow for my collection of beer-wear shirts. Would have liked the biking jersey but cannot bring myself to pay $75 for a biking jersey, no matter how cool.

Great for beer. By all means this place gets a 5 when it comes to the beer. The food however, isn't the best in the best in the area so I would say the food I would ge a 3. Average them out for a 4. There's always activities going on here so it's cool if you can get it on one of those days.

The Boston location should take note! LOVE LOVED this Harpoon location. I've been to the Boston location numerous times so I wanted to check out the VT one when I was in the area. I think my favorite part is that here there's an actual restaurant on site, so you can grab a bite before or after. A lot of the dishes incorporate some harpoon beer in them. The pulled pork nachos were possibly the best I've ever had, and they had this amazing beer cheese sauce. I die. There were 18 beers on tap to try, which beats the usual 12-14 in Boston. I got my first imperial pumpkin of the season here :) They also have an nice outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice. But possibly the BEST PART (well aside from the beer of course) is the cheese shop on site. We stopped on our way out and got some cheese and other local goodies. The shop was really cute and had other things like homemade ice cream, chocolate and maple syrup too. All around I had a great time and am looking forward to my next visit

Accommodated our group of 18 people nicely. Waitress was a gem and even split our bill. Food is good. Beers are great! Sadly they were out of cheese curds for the Poutine :(

Love this place! It's so close off I-91 that I always have to make a stop on my way north. Gorgeous location, great beer, and awesome food.

We came here famished after 7+ miles hiking Weathersfield trail. The poutine was awesome! Rye IPA hit the spot too. Closes early during the first part of the week do get on the trail by 9 to get dinner in time.

The overview tour of the Harpoon facility in VT was very interesting. They allow you to smell and taste some of the ingredients that go into their beers as well as taste test many beers at the end of the tour. It's $5 for the tour and it includes a booklet, small glass and beer tasters. (If you bring your booklet to the main Boston facility, you can apparently receive a free Harpoon glass.) The tour was informative and very laid back. Just remember to tip your tour guides who also then become your end-of-tour bartenders! The restaurant, however, is the reason for this low rating. It rivaled "Chili's," and that's not a good thing. Obviously frozen foods cleverly worded on their menu to make one think they make somewhat fresh meals (especially when they throw in a VT-based company such as "Green Mountain Smokehouse" or "Seasoned pulled pork with Harpoon Cider..."). For the record, their pork bbq soaks in the bbq sauce all day = bring the antacids. I didn't even go there. The restaurant's version of "poutine" is shameful, really. Chemical fries with chemical sauce and rubbery cheese curds. I had the chicken wrap and am not kidding when I say a day later had a MUCH, MUCH BETTER chicken wrap at a random gas station/deli in VT. The brewery is located in a cute "local business park" with Silo distillery and other local craft food and spirit businesses. It feels like Harpoon wants to pretend they are just one of the local folk (even though they are big AND Boston-based). That's not a bad thing but it's obvious corporate heads for the restaurant want to do everything on the cheap and pretend, hoping no one will notice the crappy food. That, more than anything is maddening and disappointing. I'm not a huge Harpoon fan anyway (went with some friends to the facility), but after the charade of a restaurant, I'm really not a fan. They carry malt vinegar and that's about all I can say about the restaurant that is positive. p.s. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I did not see one "beer pairing" on the menu. Wouldn't that ideally be the point of the restaurant with the brewery?

Stopped by here and there was some kind of bicycle race/event going on and this place was packed! Didn't do the tour or sit down for food because of all the people but I still snagged a spot at the bar to try a few beers. All were excellent, with the White being my favorite...but I am on kind of a Belgian White kick lately. They didn't have any in bottles to take home so I ordered a pint and sat out by the fire they had going and enjoyed it there. This is a must stop if you are driving through, it's right off the interstate and shares a parking lot with a few other specialty stores.

When a friend came to visit from out of town this past September, the mister and I took him to Harpoon Brewery to sample the wares and have lunch. After sampling, his favorite was still the Summer Beer, very low bitterness; my favorite was Rage Against the Hops, which AFAIK is only available there at the brewery, so a real treat. It was great being able to taste the different brews (and cider!) and get a couple growlers for home. The lunch options are pretty standard bar-food type things, burgers, fried stuff, etc. It was fine for what it was. My three kids were with us and after lunch/beers we walked over to a small playground and got maple soft serve from the building next door--my oldest daughter keeps begging to "go to Harpoon" since she had such a great time. I want to go back too!

  • Jaime L.

Great addition and nice to know that they purchased the building from a prior mom and pop brewery to preserve it's intended structural use. Harpoon proprietary hops are wicked good. And the friendly attitude exuding from all touch points of the company, I.e, guide staff, brewers, retail employees adds to the entire brewery experience!

Beautiful location! Great stop after tubing the river or taking in a few spirit tastings at the nearby distillery. Food here is pretty delicious (poutine!) and beers are tasty. Can get crowded with tourists but all in all a good atmosphere.

  • Steven H.

Have come here several times now, and it's always great. Nice, knowledgeable bartenders and awesome special beers that rotate all the time. Food is decent and cheap as well, plus you can drop the kids off at the playground next door and have some time to yourself.

  • Jillian L.

The beer here was exceptional. I loved the UFO white. If it's your first time here you need to get one of the sample flights. The food was average. We had sandwiches and they were ok. Not anything to write home about.

One of my favorite stops when visiting the future in-laws in Vermont! Harpoon not only serves up delicious beer, but they also have pretty darn good pub grub. This past Thanksgiving visit, the boy and I shared a UFO sampler, which included a raspberry UFO, Hefeweizen, winter white, and pumpkin beer. I was really into the pumpkin, with it being fall and all, but I also enjoyed the raspberry and the white. I wasn't such a fan of the Hefeweizen, but that's just personal taste preference. For food, I went with the spicy black bean burger, sans the bun, and I was super pleased with the result. It was a meaty patty (although without any actual meat), topped with lettuce, onion, tomato, and accompanied by a mustard sauce and a juicy dill pickle. Oh, and I opted for a side of cole slaw since a side salad wasn't an option. For brewery fare, I was super impressed. Was it gourmet? No way. But was it way better than expected? Absolutely. I knew the beer would be good, hence our reason for going, but the food was tasty was an added bonus! If you happen to be in this corner of the country, I definitely recommend popping in to Harpoon. And sit by the fire if you can!

Friendly bartenders, great food and amazing beer! What more could you ask for? We went on the first tour on a Sunday afternoon and were the only ones there so we got the royal treatment! They give the left over grains from brewing to the dairy farm nearby and use the cheese on their dishes. Try the poutine! The fries are double fried, and crispy enough they hold up to the gravy. So good. Beer battered fish and chips are flaky, fresh and come with tangy tarter sauce. Good stuff.

Nice place, great beer. Fire was warm and smells great. Friend had a raspberry wheat that was very flavorful. I like a red and had the Celtic ale. Food looked good but we were stuffed from lunch. Lots of shirts and beer to buy. Hannah was a great waitress.

  • Ann M.

Their tour is amazing. You go through all steps of the beer making process. You can taste and sample each step and ingredient that goes in. It's a VERY detailed tour. The place is clean and nice. They have a bar with some bar food you can order (which is pretty tasty for what it is). I love their beer. LOVE their beer so this place is a must stop for me any time I am in Vermont. The gift shop is a little pricey though, I think I spent 40 bucks on a zip up hoodie.

  • Nick B.

Service was ok, I ordered pull pork sandwich was not impressed. It was dry and cold not hot at all the sweet potato fries are nice and the drinks pretty good but that's about it. The look and layout of the place looks nice. But needs some improvements on the food end. Nick

Holy moley, Harpoon you know what a brewery needs and that is a great pub. I will be honest, one of the best burgers I have ever tasted was at Harpoon. Grass-fed beef people, you can't go wrong. I literally didn't need anything put on that burger, just a bun. Another go to is the poutine, with Vermont cheese curds. Now how can I review without talking about the brews. Go with the flight of beer, best bang for your buck and ability to try a wide variety. The service is excellent and the pub has a nice open feel, including an outdoor fire pit. Take the trip to Windsor, it is well worth it!

  • Douglas L.

We enjoyed the tasting room a lot. We tried some of their beer that we didn't know they even made... Bartender was awesome And was able to help us find the right beer for us. They had a band playing and it was a bit to loud but that could just be preference. Had some sweet potato fries that were good.

  • Trent L.

The tour and the food were fine if you've been to a brewery, this is nothing special with regard to those two things. As for their beer, it was absolutely worth the trip. They've got a serious selection on draft, growlers to take home, as well as an assortment of bottled offerings.

  • John T.

Came here while on vacation with my fiancé. We sat at a table, ordered food, then asked to move to the bar. I felt bad because I think we messed up the waitress by doing that. Sorry! (she was really sweet about it, though). Bartender was super friendly and easy to talk to. Tried just about every beer. Got a couple of flights and some good seasonal beers. A good time was had by all. The beers are VERY reasonably priced, since they brew them there on site. The food was really good! We split a pulled pork sandwich and fries, both were delicious. The pulled pork was nice and tender and the fries were crispy with just the right amount of salt. Even the cole slaw was good! And I'm not usually a person who even notices cole slaw on my plate. We got some glasses on our way out the door. We'll definitely come back on our next trip!

Treated ourselves to a cheeseburger made from VT beef and cheddar cheese along with sharing a brewery sampler. Sat by a roaring fire and enjoyed our visit thoroughly. Took home a couple of growlers and will surely stop again on our next venture to Vermont. I highly recommend this short hop off of exit 9 for anyone passing through.

Harpoon Brewery has made me fall in love with the brand. Just take a tour and you can see why (assuming you are 21 and older, and has a bit of interest in beer). The brewery tour is $5 p/p, includes a tasting glass and free samples of all their available beer at the end. The tour staff were very knowledgeable and entertaining. They let us sample the pre and post carbonation beer to demonstrate how the fizz can change flavors and aroma. The sampling at the end was very generous, there were so many to try (specially the ones that I have not seen in regular NYC market). Their honey cider is absolutely delicious! Not too sweet, just fragrant and crisp. This is my perfect adult apple juice. The brewery also have a retail shop (their beer and brand merchandise) plus a beer hall with wood paneling that looks very inviting. The younger bartenders manning the beer hall seems less knowledgeable than the tour staff but I don't really think it matters too much. The service is still very good and they would seek out someone who can answer your question. If you are nearby or in Windsor then this place is a must.

My review is based on waiting for a table. We never got to eat or drink. I ran a half marathon while on a weekend getaway to VT. Needless to say I was hungry after the race. We thought it would be great to stop here for lunch before the drive home. It was about a 40 min ride from our B&B. When we arrived we were told there would be a 15-20 min wait for an outside table which was totally reasonable. It was beautiful out so we said sure. We quickly realized there were no benches near the hostess booth. After running that morning I was spent and found myself leaning against the wall. Then after waiting 15 min we were offered an inside table but we were also informed that there was a 35+ min wait for food because of a back up in the kitchen. We decided to still wait for the outside spot. I figured if we had to wait for food anyways that we might as well wait for an outside table at the same time. About 10 min later another staff informed us that the wait for food was actually an hour plus. So after waiting 25-30 min we left hungry. It might have just been a bad day for them, but I can't say I'd go out of my way again to go there.

This place is so great. Came here summer 2014, and the 3 staffmembers who gave the tour were terrific. Very friendly and patient with one tour guest who was clearly drunk and annoying.... The tastings on the tour (& included mini glass) are well worth the $5. They were really informative about the brew process and let you sample a good number of beers. If there was something you didn't get to sample in the tour tasting area, then the bartender at the front will let you sample some other ones for free. Speaking of bartenders, ours was awesome! He heard what we liked on the tour, then made us a black and tan type concoction which was amazing. They were as generous as the Boston Harpoon. This and Allagash were the absolute best tours I've done (and I've done a bunch: shipyard, redhook, sam adams, jacks abby, blue hills, wachusett, and more).

We stopped in for the pub grub on our way north, and it was a fun pit stop! The beer/cider was great as expected, but the food was just mediocre. The burger was overcooked (medium well as opposed to medium rare) and the fries weren't anything special. I had the tuna melt which was fine. We were seated by the fireplace, which was nice but meant we were ignored for long periods of time. I would recommend my friends to drop in, but not give them exceedingly high expectations. We'll be back for the tour though!

  • Claire M.

This place is a great way to spend an afternoon with friends! The tour and the tastings that you get also make it a pretty affordable way to enjoy lots of beer...mmm. I couldn't give this place 5 stars though--I really had much higher hopes for the food. The brewery has a taproom with a full restaurant menu, and my friends and I deliberately went on an empty stomach (the better to fill it with beer...or I mean...vegetables?) The food was SO disappointing. It wasn't bad, exactly, but it was definitely the type of slapdash sandwich fare that I could have made in my kitchen. I got fish and chips, and basically only ate French Fries for my meal. My man got chili and it came out with VELVEETA on top--day-glow orange obviously scooped out of a bucket and glopped right on there. It kinda ruined what might have been decent chili, since all we could think is that it probably came out of a can. So moral of the story is don't come to the brewery expecting a meal that will tantalize your taste buds the way their delicious beer will. Maybe eat before you get here...and then drink away once you arrive! Ps--fun fact. Harpoon is the proud holder of Massachusetts liquor license number 1!

Missed the tour, so I have nothing to say about that. Food was incredible, I wish I had gotten more then just french fries but oh my goodness the fries were incredible. I love me some crispy fries. The chicken tenders looked good too but I didn't try it. The beers are exactly what you expect from Harpoon, its good, perfect for summer, cold, fresh, crisp, light. I tried the sampler and I really wish that they would let you pick your own. They give you a selection of five beers that they preselect and they are beers you've probably already tried, they should really use the flight as an opportunity to try beers you may not have selected before. I had been looking forward to trying some new beers. The seating is great, theres lots of outdoor patio space (again great for summer). When we went there was a band playing at the place next door so it was like a free show. Worth a stop by.

I love this place. The food is great and the tour is absolutely worth the $5. The staff is very friendly. The IPA is balanced. At the brewery you can try their original ale that they started out brewing but discontinued. The burgers were very delicious. The location is great too with outdoor seating and an outdoor badminton court!

Was there on a busy day, place was packed. They may have benefited by one additional bartender. The service was stressed, but very good. as busy as they were, they still offered suggestions. Had a couple different beers which were crisp and tasty. Had a Reuben panini with onion rings. The rings were standard frozen type. The panini was cool to the touch but toasted (perhaps sat in the back before getting out to me). It was a little bland for my taste. In general, very good, just not above 4 stars.

  • Vilay S.

It's tough to review this place because the restaurant and brewery are kind of separate things, but I am giving it for 4 stars based on the beers & beer selection. Unfortunately I haven't been able to catch the tour yet but we do love our Harpoon beers and they have every kind on tap, plus exclusive stuff you likely can't get back home. But at least you can get a growler of the rare stuff to bring home! The seasonal, small batch stuff is always fun to try. I don't think they do flights of beer, but they are pretty cool about giving samples even if you're not on the tour. The food is bar food but better. Nothing amazing, but a lot of solidly good sandwiches and wraps. The first time I went, we sat at the bar for hours and shared life stories with the bartender, who also told us lots of info about the beers & beer process. The next time, we also sat at the bar but the bartender didn't say two words to us or anyone else even though the bar seats were less than half full. We would have ordered more food and drinks, but he never came back to check on us after a runner delivered our food. I get that not everyone has to kiss your ass, but a little friendliness affects how your visit goes you know? I think the Boston location has a more fun vibe but you still have to make a visit to this mother ship.

  • Matt F.

Stopped in for a "quick" growler fill on the way north. Met Josh the bartender and he "forced" us to sample a Buffett of beers before deciding what to fill with, which then led to some wings and two fills, what a guy. We have been here several times as well as to Boston but have never been treated so well. Will be back to look for him because he is a leader in the industry! Way to go harpoon

  • Ashley H.

Wow, this is a super-cool place. The decor is beautiful and relaxing. They have so many beers on tap, including many experimental ones to try. My only frustration was not all of the beers were listed on the chalkboard. I had used all of my free samples with our server when we sat down for a few beers. When I stepped up to the bar to have my growlers filled I noticed several more beers that I would have tried if I could. No worries, the bartender was happy to help and I was able to try the couple extra. Good thing, too. I bought a growler of one of them. Too bad we had just eaten at Longtrail (a mediocre lunch according to my friends) because their menu looked to be full of delicious food. I would love to come back for another visit, maybe this time for a tour.

  • Dianne J.

We waited over an hour for a 15 minute wait per the hostess. The food for one person came out and it was another 20 minutes before the rest of the table was served making a 2 hour total wait. It was pretty embarrassing because I had raved about them previously and I took in clients from my business from NC. The only saving grace was that the food was good. I will go back...but I won't take out of town folks there again.

Great $5 tour. I was 9 months pregnant and still found the tour entertaining. My husband enjoyed all the samples. Tour guides were great and informatics. 1 hr your actually flew by. Didn't eat there but the beer garden looked nice. Lots of tables to sit at even if you aren't dining there and a few yard games - bad mitten & corn hole. Few other shops there make it a fun stop when you are in the area.

Great tour! Very thorough and excellently done. Dare I say better done than the Boston Harpoon tour (which was pretty fantastic). Great level of detail. I learned things I've never known before about the brewing process and this is my 25th brewery tour! The $5 cost is totally worth it. The samples are generous, the brewery is exquisitely kept, the staff are incredible. A must do if you're in VT, it's worth a drive from anywhere really!

I LOVEEEEEED Harpoon. From it's exterior I could tell I was going to like my visit. They had a bunch of tables outside for people to eat and taste the many varieties. The tour was fantastic. I forgot the names of the tour guides but they were interesting and friendly. We even got to try the upcoming pumpkin UFO. The tour was reasonable at (5?) dollars. We sat at the bar to have a pint and a snack. The food was very good-poutine and clam chowder. Our bartender/server was so helpful and friendly. If I lived in the area I would be a regular. There are not enough positive adjectives to describe how I felt about Harpoon. Go!

Came to this Harpoon location for the 2nd time last weekend. Unfortunately, the tours that day weren't starting until 5pm. Instead we went to the bar, got some Harpoon, and relaxed. The place was packed (it was lunch time on July 5), but the bartender was very nice, gave us some samples, and we left with a growler. Next time I'll make sure to check the tour schedule- it was a great tour. At the end you can try any beer you want as a sample.

I love this place! We stopped for lunch on the way to St. Goddins Historical site. We didn't take the tour but lunch was amazing. I had the black bean burger and their cider, I really enjoyed them both. My friends tried several different types of beers and they really enjoyed them. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice meal that's not too expensive.

Went to their New England BBQ Championships over the weekend - outstanding! I'm a huge fan of Harpoon brewery beers, and the BBQ festival at the brewery was great. Tons of ribs, brisket, and pulled pork along with barrels of fresh delicious beer! Music was excellent too, the planning was superb as they had everything figured out from parking to port-a-potties. The brewery does tours, but I passed on this as there was simply too much porky goodness to miss. They have a beautiful store filled with shirts and beer accessories. Also, a brand new Vermont cheese store is right next to the brewery and is stocked with cheeses, honey, syrup, and other Vermont made treats. The festival is a must if you love BBQ and beer, and the brewery is a must if you just love good beer. Either way you will love it.

I must say that this brewery was, hands-down, the highlight of my vacation. It was sad that this was my first brewery stop on the whole trip, but I will gladly be returning. When you first arrive and get your first view of the brewery itself, it's a real tell-tale sign of what's to come. The grounds were clean and nicely kept, the inside of the building was the same, and the outside eating area was absolutely perfect. They had PLENTY of beers on tap to try, and the lunch menu couldn't have been any better. All of their foods showcase ingredients from Vermont and show you a distinct sense pride that they have for their products. The meals were incredible, the beers were great, and this place CERTAINLY is on the top of my list for must-visit establishments in Vermont!

Been here a couple times now and food is consistently good. They have a mix of salads, sandwiches and burgers. Last time I was here, I got the Rachel, which is essentially a Reuben but made with Smoked Turkey in place of the Corned Beef (watching my figure). The sandwich was not overly greasy as Reubens typically can be. Beers are tasty as always, tried their Raspberry UFO which was perfect on the warm summerlike day! Servers are casual and friendly. Their outside patio is a group of large picnic style seating overlooking the green grounds that surround this little alcove area. They stream music out to the patio which makes it even more fun. I've heard that they have special pizza nights and live entertainment on the weekends. I'd check out more if I lived back this way but I make sure to make a visit each time I'm in the area.

This place is spacious and has a high ceiling and modern decor. I prefer a consistent-themed design while Harpoon has a mixture of a countryside brewery and a city pub. I like the way they hand write their beer selection on the blackboard behind the bar. We, a party of 6, ordered all the beer in sample glasses - that was fun to have 2 or 3 kinds of beer at the same time. I'm not a big fan of the food here, just regular american food. The brewery is really cool. Although we missed the tour, we could look all the machines through the glass windows.

The tour was long winded and didn't show much of anything interesting. The kid at the bar couldn't answer questions about the beer he was serving, which surprises me. When you work at a brewery, you really should know the beer being produced at the location. Out of all the breweries we hit in Vermont, this one was the most uninteresting and I was just dying for the tour to end.

I meant to write this review weeks ago because I had an awesome experience at this place. I was headed up to smugglers notch for a weekend and we stopped at Harpoon for some food right at 10 am. We opened the place up with the bartender, Josh. Very cool guy, told us all about the beers and made great recommendations. Food was very good too. Long story short, we stayed for about 2 hours trying beers when we only had originally planned on staying for about a half hour. I'd recommend this place to anyone. Look for Josh behind the bar!

I couldn't stop eating the poutine. The sandwiches were all right, but the poutine! Oh, and their fries were delicious and crispy. But back to the poutine - features the same fries, I think, with just cheese curds and gravy. The gravy was quite tasty as well.

Our tour was amazing! We had such a good time and learned so much about the beer making process. I highly recommend this tour to anyone in the area.

Good solid pub food...fries are actually terrific and the burgers satisfying and the done ness requested ( which is worth stars on own accord! We had a solid dinner with wonderful beer and fresh cider on tap of course. Love to try their special brews. They have great outdoor seating if weather suits, and a nice fire pit to gather around.

Unlike the Harpoon Brewery in MA, this one actually gives a full tour and has a restaurant! The tour walks you through the entire place, gives you the history of Harpoon and its beers. You get to sample 4 beers in the take-home 6-oz glasses. Plus, as you go on the tour you get to sample some of the 'green' beer - the stuff before it is all filtered and finalized. It's the first time I've ever seen that as part of the tour. Mega props for adding that little step to differentiate the tour from others. The restaurant serves all the beers they make there as well as basic bar food. We had to wait 75 minutes for our tour since the one we were hoping to go on was already sold-out. Waiting at the bar, drinking beer and eating fries wasn't a bad way to kill the time.

It was a good visit! Their recent improvements/renovations make the place spacious and really comfortable. The beer was outstanding, as usual, and the wings and fries were quite tasty. The overall experience was really pleasant.

White UFO and Boston....well the Boston something, its a dark beer they got there was good. I'm not a huge beer drinker, I prefer my whiskey but they were the best ones for me. Food was bar food but better. Solid sandwiches and appetizers. Onion rings were great and so was my spinach salad with crispy chicken on top. Not many restaurant choices in the area, this seemed like the nicer less red neck-y ones.

Maybe I was just here on an off day or something.I love Harpoon, especially their Boston location. Never had a bad experience there and have recommended it to there who have also enjoyed it....Vermont? Not so much. The tour was okay - we had loud children so it was difficultt hear the speaker at times. The tour guides did seem bored/exhausted but I'll give them that it was the 430 tour on a Saturday (been there, done that, and its NOT easy). Food - our waitress "forgot"us several times...as in forgot to bring my beer but didn't forget to add it to the bill and definitely didn't forget her attitude or annoyance when I pointed out the charged drink when the bill came. The food itself was just alright (mozzarella sticks were tasty though). Lastly, and I take responsibility for our mistake, we took the restaurant glasses (instead of the brewery glasses you get at the end of the tour) by accident. We get to the car only to have an extremely rude security person come up, place his hands on my car and accuse us of stealing. I showed him the glasses we took and explained we thought they were the complimentary ones from the tour- and again e accused us of stealing. He identified himself as security but was not wearing a Harpoon shirt nor offered ID. I didn't want a scene in a parking lot (people were staring since he was legit yelling)so I handed over the glasses and drove away feeling humiliated and ashamed over something that was an honest mistake. I won't be recommending the Vermont location in the future, unless people don't mind being accused of stealing.

Drove up from NYC on a vacation, Yelped/ Trip adviser on things to do, and this place popped up. WELL WORTH IT! Stopped an another brewery not to far (Long Trail), Harpoon offers Saturday tours unlike that other spot that's closed on weekends. $5 tour that took 40 minutes, sipping & sampling through out the tour. Needless to say, I was saucy :-D So to sober up, I remember eating the Clam chowda & something else I can't remember (bcz I was trashed). Very tasty, had my wife's sandwich & fries, not greasy at all. All 17 beers on tap are very reasonable & offer 4 samples before you pick your pint. Maybe I'm spoiled bcz of the NYC hours of operations, but they close at 9pm. If you've never been on a tour here & and your a stout/ lager drinker, sample 100 Barrel seriers(Made with VT Maple Syrup) then the Munich Dark. That deserves an A++, OMG! WTF! SMH! Give me some Moe!

I have to say that between the great beer, food and ambiance the people of this area are lucky to have this in their backyard. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was very good had steak tip salad and it tasted like it was just picked from garden. I think Boston should adapt this atmosphere along with parking.

Great beer, awesome brewery tour, good food, friendly and knowledgeable service. I'm not much of a beer drinker but I found several beverages that I really enjoy and my husband got to try more of a variety than usual. Definitely a "must do" if you're in the area.

Stopped by while on vacation, but were not able to come on a day to actually tour the facility. That was fine, as we were able to sit down to a quiet lunch with a nice glass of cider. My husband got the chocolate stout which was wonderful! Great beers, decent food. If we were able to take the tour, I am sure the $5 we could have spent would have been worth it. Check it out if you are in town.

I love Harpoon beers, and visiting one of the two Harpoon breweries had been on my to-do list for quite some time now. The Harpoon Brewery in Windsor offered a fantastic tour and was a really cool place to hang out and enjoy lots of delicious Harpoon beers. For $5, we got a pretty lengthy and informative tour, where the two tour guides let us taste a variety of barley and smell hops at the beginning, take a walk to the back of the brewery to try some "green" beer before it became the finished product, and then try some more Harpoon IPA from the barrel before returning to the front area where we were able to sample as many beers as we could in a 15 to 20-minute time frame. At that point, I was able to try the Harpoon Ale, which is only available at the brewery, the Harpoon Dark, Rye IPA, and the UFO Pumpkin, among many others. Outside the tour, the restaurant area was packed, but we were able to grab some beers at the bar to bring outside. Two highlights: the test batches of Honey Ginger IPA, a perfectly sweet, gingery beer that doesn't taste too much like an IPA, and the Red Velvet, which was really nice red velvety stout. We grabbed some seats around the fire pit, and it made for a lovely afternoon. After enjoying our beers there, we made sure to purchase some bottles to take home with us. We weren't able to try the food, but we will definitely be back.

If you're in the area I highly suggest stopping in to the harpoon brewery for some great beers. We loved the tour, but keep an eye on the time/date. They only do tours on Friday and Saturday and close early on the weekend. Live music Thursday evenings. Try the Leviathan series for a special treat. Also a fan of the Catamount Maple Wheat. Kid friendly. Badminton court outside as well as large patio and fire pit area (very convenient when wait times are long) Located next to river of life sculpture garden, vodka distillery, canoe rentals, cheese/specialty shop, and down the road from Simon Pierce glass blowing factory. You can definitely turn this in to a half day/day excursion in VT. Note: Outside of brews and water they only offer root beer - so if you have a soda drinking DD who doesn't like root beer - plan ahead. Also - the food menu is marginal - it's a bit overpriced- you're paying a little extra for atmosphere so as long as you know before you go you'll be in good shape. Finally - BBQ fest happens one weekend a year in July - it was money well spent. Check it out.

Absolutely one of the most thorough and detailed tours I've ever been on, and I've been on a few. When you take a brewery tour, you can expect to see canisters of hops, and talk through the general process how to make beer. But you cannot always expect to really hear about the science, and the processes unique to the particular brewery. But that is exactly what I got from the trio of highly knowledgeable and personable guides. Much like the Boston Harpoon, there's ample merch to buy. And much like the other "rural New England" breweries, there's also a beer hall/restaurant where you can sit and eat. So feel free to take you're comprehensive tour, buy your abundant merch, and then sit and eat a meal. Strongly recommended, do go there.

I'm giving this place 5 stars because I've been on a few brewery tours and this has been the nicest so far. It's incredibly clean inside! I didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant but it looked like better than average bar food, and the space is nice and open. There's a small gift shop attached where you can buy all of their beers in addition to random t-shirts, etc. The tours are $5, and come with a souvenir glass. At the end, after using your glass to sample as many and as much of the beers you'd like, you can give the glass back to them, and they'll wrap you up a new one to take home (that way you don't have any "open containers" in your vehicle!). The tour was quite detailed and midway through they offered a sample of their unflitered IPA (which Hubby said, "looks like pee pee.") At the end, they pour you a glass of the filtered IPA, which was MUCH better, before releasing you to try the rest of their beers. My favorite was the hard cider, haha. :) It's kind of a ways away, but I'm glad we visited! Also, your GPS will send you to the back of the facility - don't be fooled! Follow the signs for the guest parking lot.

I loved Harpoon! The tour was very in-depth and the girl knew what she was talking about. She had an answer to every question and was very energetic. The 15 mins of tasting can't be beat and is definitely worth the 5 bucks that includes the entire hour, the tasting, and the tasting glasses. We wanted to get lunch in their restaurant after, but unfortunately they were so full that they weren't seating anymore. That was the only disappointment but you can't blame them for being busy! The area is quite nice too, with outdoor seating for the brewery and a variety of other shops. Can't wait to visit the Boston location!

I stopped in at 5:45 on my way back home, and they close at 6. Last tour was at 4. They let me into the tour area and then one of the tour guides came back and gave me an impromptu 15 minute tour. The bartender stayed around long enough to offer me samples. The beer itself is 5 stars, and so is the quality of the place and its staff. Next time you're heading up I-91, get on US 5 and stop here. (And stay on US 5, it's beautiful.)

Just before you get to the pretty little town of Windsor, which claims to be the birthplace of Vermont (1777), you arrive at the Harpoon Brewery. What a treat! For $5 you can get a tour; we passed, but others said it was a good one. We settled on sampling some beers and enjoying a little snack in the sunny outside patio. There's a selection of nearly 20 brews and you can sample up to four of them. We opted for the Sumer Brew (not much of a hop taste, very light and easy on the palate) and the chilled cider along with a hummus plate. There are tables and counters inside (and a cool fireplace which must be delightful on a wintery day) along with lots of Harpoon-related merchandise. This is a great stop, less than two miles off I-91.

Great place for events, we went to the Macaroni and Cheese Challenge, which supported the Vermont Farmstead Cheesemakers, we sampled 18 or so Mac-n-Cheese dishes and Harpoon beer. Plenty of parking on the grounds in a close proximity, and everyone was so laid back and cool. Different feel from the Boston brewery where everyone is much more fast paced and run with attitude.

This is my kinda tour. I went here and it was a dollar I believe, and you tour the whole place, they let you into fermentation rooms, all over the brewhouse floor. Into the warehouses, everywhere. They make you feel like you're a friend and they want you to approve of their new endevour. Then the fun part, tasting. They give you a sample glass, i think it was 6 oz. You have 30 minutes to drink as much as you want, and all their stuff is on tap.... This is the tour, I went to the Boston one as well as Vermont. Both are virtually the same. AWESOME. I'm not even the hugest fan or Harpoon, besides their IPA. But they had some beers that were great!

Had an awesome experience here! We came on a Sunday morning and were the only other couple there. Within 30 minutes the place was starting to fill. We sat at the bar and had a great time getting to know our bartender, Josh. He gave us tasters and then mixed beers to make his own creations which were delicious. You can tell he's passionate about his job and harpoon as a brand. Being a local, he gave us some suggestions on the area. They serve food but we unfortunately we ate before we came. They have a large bar and seating area with fireplace, but we moved outside to their patio since we had our dog with us. They lit the fire pit which was awesome considering this was probably one of the last nice fall weekends before it gets too cold to be outside. With the sun, fire pit and good beer it was an amazing fall day. There is also a cheese/meat shop and vodka place in their plaza. Will definitely be back!

If you search my profile, you can see that I love Harpoon's Boston location. I love their beer. A++, five gold stars, Siskel & Ebert give it two thumbs up. This is about the food and the service. I wasn't impressed. I got the pulled pork, which while made with my beloved Harpoon Cider, was not as beloved. I wanted more sweetness! Fries were average, and the server forgot that I had ordered them. We got a side platter free of charge. I had just climbed a mountain (ascutney) and I wanted something warm and filing! We ordered the sampler plus the Pumpkin UFO. I get that it makes it easier for the bartender to pour the samples if they are all the same...but I can get the freakin' Harpoon IPA ev.ery.where. I'm so over it. I'd love to be able to make some selections! Be sure to wander the grounds, a bit as well!

The Harpoon Brewery restaurant is pretty darn good. Andy had a massive plate of fish and chips (8 oz. of fish) that was super crispy on the outside and tender and flaky inside. The cole slaw was pretty good. I had a panini, which was good, save for having too much mustard on it. The store was pretty cool and we ended up with a case of cider and 6 cider glasses.

I took a drive down to Harpoon on a warm Saturday with some friends and was pleased that it lived up to its Yelp hype. The beer was fantastic. The Munich Dark was probably my favorite. I'm generally a fan of lighter beers, but the Munich was so smooth in flavor. All the beers were truly excellent though (I had a flight for $5.25) The food was pretty good and for the price is a great bargain. Most of the sandwiches/burgers are around $6-8 which includes a side of fries. I enjoyed the atmosphere. Lots of outdoor seating and its a great place to kick back in the summer. The service was average. I'd probably give that a 3. The waitress at times bordered on being rude. Its all good though, I think the beer, atmosphere and prices make up for it. I can't wait to go back again. I'd like to add that we also took a drive up to Long Trail Brewery the same day and of the two, I think Harpoon is far superior.

Have been here several times before for the festivals; today went here for lunch and the beer, service, and atmosphere was great - the food however, was pretty bad. But, this is a brewery in the middle of nowhere, VT - I'd go back for beer/apps. Looks like the tours are cool, so this review is just based on a lunch experience.

The beer tour is literally a 6x6 cell. The service was very poor at the bar and some of the employees were not knowledgeable of their product. The only thing they had going for them is the beer selection and the other attractions in the area. Overall, was pretty disappointed. Will try to visit the main brewery and see if it's any better. In regards to the beer, it was excellent and a wonderful selection.

We didn't do the brewery tour... so this is based purely on the restaurant at the brewery. Food was good, 3.5 Stars. Nothing overwhelming, nothing disappointing. I thought the wrap we split could have used more turkey, but my wife liked it the way it came. Fries were good, chili was OK, I thought it lacked kick. Beer- 5 Stars. Fresh, cold, nice glasses for each brew. Service- 5 Stars. Waitress was perfectly attentive. Atmosphere- 5 Stars, We sat outside, it was gorgeous out.

This place makes me so happy. Beer = good. Vermont = good. A nearby sculpture garden with views of New Hampshire to wander in while you sober up before the ride home = awesome. I love Harpoon beer and some of the people working here are prett-tay pret-tay cool. Best: Harpoon Octoberfest. Columbus Day Weekend. 2009 rocked (again as usual). Mark your calendars for 2010.

It has been 3 days I want another grilled cheese sandwich!!!.....along with a good beer (or 2) and pretty tasty little salad I was a very happy luncher. The onion rings were really good too and yummy vintage sodas. My wife loved the Path of Life self guided tour at the bottom of the parking lot - she found it meaningful and reflective though she hadn't been drinking. I thought the site and charred sculptures were beautiful, the maze both fun and a good sobriety test and was good to walk after a few beers but the grilled cheese was a more spiritual experience for me.

As expected the beer was great. The setting was very nice, clean and had plenty of seating. I wish, even thought it is a beer joint, that it would be a bit more family friendly. There were no changing tables ing the bathrooms, and the bathroom floors were gross!! The had no changing tables or kids menu, but yes at least 1/2 of the tables had families with kids. They have, as expected a great beer menu. Harpoon makes great beers and have some beers here that are not readily available In your local packie. I thought then food was good. The hummus plate was nice, but not fresh made hummus. I had a bacon cheddar cheeseburger that was nice and properly prepared to my liking. My wife had the vermonter which was great and hey even changed it per her special request. Christina (sp) our server was very help, nice and friendly. She had a good knowledge of the beers. I have been to both locations or harpoon and really enjoyed having a nice sit down lunch with table service at this location. I have been to lots of breweries, but harpoon has done a great job with this locations

i don't drink too much anymore, and when i do harpoon isn't the beer i usually go for .. the food here was very good, the hard cider was decent. really one of the best grilled-cheese (cabots cheddar - yum) sandwiches and beer battered onion rings i have ever had. also partook in the beer sampler platter and they are all ok - all were pretty unique, good new englandy beers. unfortunately there were no brewery tours the day we were here, but i will be coming back to harpoon next time i am headed north. (note- they dont take AMEX)

Service was terrible today. Had to wait a long time for the waitress to take our order and then we had to watch her chat with guys at the bar while waiting for our check. The food was plentiful and flavorful (especially the clam chowder), but all four of us got stomach aches and head aches afterwards. We also became wicked thirsty. The hard cider was mediocre. Atmosphere is good. The only reason to return is the lack of other restaurants and breweries in Windsor county.

Educational AND delicious. The only other brewery I've been to is the Sam Adams brewery in Boston, and where the two differ is that this brewery is A) actually brewing beer for distribution, unlike Sam's which is more like a beer lab and B) Harpoon doesn't make any effort to limit the amount of beer sampled while on the tour. The restaurant is also great, offering some beautiful outdoor picnic table seating and some tasty better than bar food bar food.

Seasonal beer selection is good. The waitress suggested the chicken panini. Said it was her favorite. I thought it was dry. My In-laws got the Reuben and the Rachel which they said were very good. The onion rings were good as an appetizer. My husband got a burger which was OK size---not huge. My husband and father-in-law did the beer tour which they said was good/worth the money. Typical pub fare.

Drove up to Vermont for a couple of days while attending a 5 week seminar in Amherst, MA. We've been drinking a bit of Harpoon, which I was previously unfamiliar with since I'm from AZ, so when I saw signage for the brewery while driving back I detoured. Great experience! I'd barely missed the last tour but they graciously hustled me into the bowels of the brewery to catch the tour in progress. Cat, Neville and the rest of the tour staff were informative, exceedingly friendly and happy to keep the multitude of tap samples coming. Don't miss out on the Bavarian style dark and the Leviathan IPA! The only reason it's four stars and not five is the restaurant experience. I ordered it medium rare and it came almost well done, which is a major buzz kill if you like to taste the meat instead of the bun and the lettuce. The waitress kind of shrugged and said that she'd made it clear on the order so I assume that meant "tough luck--enjoy the burger as best you can". Whatever. I was there for the beer anyway. I'll be singing the praises of Harpoon back West until we are fortunate to be able to buy it. One final anecdote. I forgot my little tasting glass and didn't discover it until this morning back here in Massachusetts. I called and spoke with the restaurant manager who graciously took down my info and promised to send me a replacement all the way out to Arizona. That's service with a smile, and I truly appreciate their desire to go the extra mile for a guy like me who they'll likely never see again. Great people, great beer, great experience.

The Harpoon Brewery is the focal point of my fall. Oompa band and sausage and stein in hand - Michelle is a happy girl. Red cheeked smiles on Columbus Day weekend under the softly orange sunlight of dappled maple-tree fall I forget everything I know about Midtown and Downtown and everything in between and re-learn how to slow down and taste that sweet cold cider. I sing along "Ein Prosit, Ein Prosit" and lift my hefty mug (it's a two-hander!) again and again. And at $4.25 a beer we can afford to stay here. The party doesn't end until the sun is red in the West and we're shivering our way back to campfires and tents, satiated and smelling of the woods. Ready to cook some meat on a fire and live the primitive. And all summer long I've been thinking - is it time yet to do it again?

Stopped here for lunch and were not disappointed. Neither of us are particular Harpoon fans, but we were pleasantly surprised by the food, service, ambience, and yes, beer. We ordered (and split) the vegetarian black bean burger (with onion rings obviously) and the spinach salad. Both were perfect. Our waitress was really prompt & pleasant. We capped off the afternoon with a game of shuttlecocks on the lawn, and despite the fact that I lost the game, we had a great time.

Went here on a Saturday night for dinner. We were able to be seated right away and ordered some beers that were just AMAZING. Totally fresh and wonderful. Try the Raspberry UFO if you can - wonderful summertime beer I went with the Vermonter sandwich, which was just the correct size for a nice dinner meal. My aunt ordered the Rachel and aside from the fact that it was made on the wrong bread, she was very pleased with it. Everything here is super affordable and it is a nice place to go for a casual meal.

The first time I came to the Harpoon Brewery, it was just this little brewery, and they were holding some sort of fair. Let me tell you, I am the master of fair games geared toward ten year olds. Since then, they have added a large restaurant and a big area where you can grab Harpoon gear. I have been here to eat twice since the addition. So, about a month ago we stopped in here on our way to Burlington. It was a beautiful day, so we opted to sit on the patio. The patio is furnished with picnic tables, and has stacks of wood lining it. The whole place has this woodsy Vermont feel, while catering to yuppies on vacation. When we sat down, there was one other party on the patio. Then, in walks some mob of children. I don't know if this was some goofy quiverfull movement, a roving daycare, or a kindergarten field trip. All I know is that there were a lot of them, and the staff thought the best place to seat two tables full of young children was right next to four beer-swilling men. After a few of our neighbors decided to launch into a Whocanscreamtheloudestandlongestwithoutadultintervention contest, we moved ourselves to the other side of the nearly empty patio. I don't know who thinks it's a good idea to bring children to a brewery, but it's not any fun for anybody involved. Don't do it. After multiple discussions concerning peanut allergies, food being sent back, and plenty of sighing and sarcastic comments from our waittress, we got our food. It was a burger, and tasted like a burger. That's all the review I'm giving it. You can splash some beer over here, locally source this over here, but it was still just a burger. Nothing mind-blowing. The food here is acceptable bar food. It's even on the better side. I've had both okay service and terrible service here. This is what holds the restaurant back, not the food or beer. Hopefully it's better next time.

I've been to many breweries in my time and I must say this is one of the best experiences. For $5 you get a terrific keepsake tasting glass and more importantly you get a wealth of knowledge from the 45 minute tour. They really take you right through the floor of the brewery in every capacity as they teach you the intricacies of what goes into making beer. To help add to the experience they let you taste a 'green' beer and then the finished product for you to understand some of the different stages of making a beer. This is quite different to many other tours which are self guided, in cordoned off areas or a birds-eye view of the floor below. And of course, the best part is saved for last, the tasting of the various flavors. Mmmmmm.... While the tasting portion only lasts for 15 minutes, they do have a full bar and restaurant on site and if they have additional brews there or others you just want to taste again, they'll be more than happy to accomodate you.

My friends and I spent the weekend in Vermont for camping and the BBQ contest at Harpoon. We had a blast, sitting outside, and got pulled pork sandwiches from 3 places and had a taste test. Loved the amount of space there was for food and wandering, a nice change from the Boston Summer Session when the view includes pavement and porta-potties...and the beer is awesome

Great place, awesome tour. We stopped by here during a trip to the area, and loved the tour and the food. If you're familiar with Harpoon beers, you'll especially enjoy the tour, as you can get a ton of samples at the end. I really liked our tour guides (there were three). They were knowledgable and enthusiastic. I asked a bunch of questions, and they gave really informative answers. We ate lunch after our tour, and the food was quite good as well. We had the local grass-fed burgers (a special) and fries. The burger was delicious, and the fries were super crispy. Service was a little slow, but they were busy as it was a holiday. This was my boyfriend's third trip to Harpoon, and he insisted we repeat the tour (I'd never been) because it was such a blast-- not an understatement. It's definitely the best brewery tour I've been on, and I've been on my fair share. Highly recommend Harpoon if you're in the area, or even if it's slightly out of your way.

I was back in Vermont visiting the family and stopped in for some fine craft brews and a bite to eat. For food we only ordered mozzarella sticks and onion rings. Both were hot and tasty. But the beer is the real reason to go there. Tasting is encouraged so I tried a porter and a stout settled on the Baltic Porter. Then had a Leviathan Imperial IPA., which is now one of my favorite beers. Its hard to find here in Florida, but sure to gain popularity. Watch out they are both strong at around 10%, it sneaks up you. I'm looking forward to going back in December.

$5/pp for an hour-long tour of the brewery (awesome deal!) - they also give you a tasting glass to keep, several tastings throughout the tour and a sampling of their beers at the end. the staff was friendly and funny. we had lunch afterwards at their restaurant - food was great - we had the whole wheat pulled pork nacho special (amazing), burger and bratwurst. many of their items seemed to have been marinated in their beers - very yummy. our waitress was not great, spent most of the time flirting with customers at the bar and pretty much ignored us the whole time - the other waitstaff had to serve us a few times. there were a lot of souvenirs to buy in the gift shop as well as a good selection of beers. in vermont, everything is so far apart, so i had a difficult time choosing which sites were worth visiting - happy we chose harpoon!

I am not really a fan of tours, but this wasn't too bad. They bring you into a little area of the brewery and talk for a very long time about the process and how this brewery started. They pass around big jars of things like barley for you to smell, and if you so choose, to reach your hand into the germ infested jar where everybody else's hands have been and take a couple out to taste. Then they walk you through the brewery a bit and show you the process. You get to keep a 4oz beer glass and they let you taste the unfiltered, uncarbonated "green beer" that was just made. They also come around with some finished beer for you to try. After the tour is over you are brought back and allowed to try a couple samples of different beers on tap. It took an hour total. Afterwards, we ate at the restaurant which had some pretty good food and plenty more beer on tap.

The staff are really congenial. The tour was excellent, and Octoberfest was fun. We've done the tour twice now - a year ago with the in-laws, and most recently with my parents and in-laws. They even allowed us to arrange a private tour for that with only 2 hours of advance notice. They are VERY generous with their samples - and all the beer is good. Be sure to eat there after the tour, you'll need it. ;) The food is amazing too, although I have yet to be 100% sober when eating it. I love getting the glass with the tour, although I'm not a fan of the new glass shape. One warning though, when offered the chance to taste the grains used to make the beer - DON'T. I'm pretty sure I got "food poisoning" from it. Basically, someone must have reached in there at some point with less than clean hands. It was so bad I made a 3AM trip to the ER in an ambulance. I got the worst of it, my husband and Dad got it mildly, the others were lucky and didn't get it all. The grains were the only thing we varied on for consumption.

A must go if you are in the area. Great food, atmosphere, staff, and beer. I recommend the BBQ chicken sandwich as well as the pulled pork.

Stopped by the brewery on a Friday afternoon, and tried their sampler (6 oz glasses of 5 of their brews) at the bar, which was pretty tasty. We realized that there would be a brewery tour at 5, so we piad the $5 to join the tour. Overall, I thought it was a great tour. A mix of history, brewing science/physics, and taste-testing. At the end of the tour, we were allowed to taste whichever beers we wanted from the 10 or so that they had on tap. Afterwards, we sat around the fire pit that they have outside, which was a very enjoyable way to spend an autumn evening.

Harpoon- Windsor, VT. just under 2.5 hours from Boston, it was the first leg of our VT brew tour. We stopped here for lunch as the tour didnt fit into our schedule but I think if you seen one brew tour, you've seen them all. Nothing changes at how one makes beer. Wow, vats! This place is much bigger than the Boston establishment and houses a resturant. You have to eat it. They serve pub fare but its not the greasy kind and prices are pretty dope. Very cheap! The Vermonter panini is amazing! with green apples and a spciy honey mustard. the panini is pressed to perfection-not to crunchy but not too soggy and complements the fries just perfect. their burgers are really good too. altho my bf asked for it medium and it came out well done. i guess something forgot about it! it was still tasty tho! The beer battered fries are some of the best I have ever had. the people here are super nice and will let you sample brews. I was most impressed with the 100 barrel series- Catamount Maple Wheat. You can def taste the maple in this and its a very nice finsih from beginning to end. then there was the Rauchfetzen. this was smooth as well as it was german style brew not a bitter but has some spice to it. The Levoathan series- we tried the Imperial IPA. wow this is bitter. if you drink this before sampling the others- yuo wont be able to taste your beers. I didnt like this as much it was kind of hard to even justify drinking a pint of this. it was very bitter and the taste lingers in your mouth. The celtic ale was really good. your usual irish red ale= a very nice beer to drink any day and with your favorite pub fare. overall, this is a pretty cool place. we noticed alot of ppl come here to eat and try beer. it was busy by 1230-1ish.

4 stars: the brewery tour 2 stars: the restaurant at the brewery So...3 stars overall. We were a group of six coming back from a weekend in Vermont and stopped at the Harpoon Brewery. The tour: fun! The food afterward: not so fun. Let me start with the tour itself. Great tour guides who are interesting and very knowledgeable. You can tell they enjoy giving the tours! Plus, you really get to see the entire brewery from the beginning of the process to the end--even the outside area where the hops are grown to the big machinery (for lack of better words) throughout the brewery. Plenty of time to ask questions, and of course, try the beer! They're generous and excited to share with you the new ones--and their own personal favorites. What's not to like about the brewery? The disappointing restaurant experience. The food is reasonably priced and fairly good, but out of six of us, only ONE order was correct, so that's 5/6 orders not correct. Not a big deal, I suppose, except that on busy days, like weekends, it will be hard to get the waitress's attention and get your order fixed. So, more waiting.... Bottom line: fun brewery tour, decent food, and very good prices in the brewery store (about $9) for a six pack. I recommend the UFO White--excellent summer beer!

Obviously a fantastic beer selection. The pleasantly surprising part was the good food. I had a great burger with local Vermont cheese. The fries had a soft mashed potato texture under a crispy perfectly salted crust. An outstanding lunch on an open patio on a perfect Vermont summer day.

Brewery tour was fantastic... very generous sampling opportunities, and very informative guides. The brew pub was a great spot to hit for lunch. Food was great for pub food, served quick, service at the bar was great... and of course great beer to go with it. My favorite beer was the Octoberfest, and I can't wait to go back and try more. I definitely recommend a visit.

BBQ, bands, beer, and lots of happy friendly people. On July 25, 2010 we attended the 10 Annual Championships of NE BBQ. Entry is $10 for friends of Harpoon, with that you get two vouchers for a Harpoon beer, which have a value of $4.50, so the entry fee is effectively $1. Non-friends of Harpoon pay $15 for entry, and they get two vouchers as well. There are dozens of BBQ teams vending and competing. The food was very good and relatively affordable. Pulled pork sliders were around $2.00, brisket sandwiches with chips $6, and I didn't get any ribs so I don't know how much those were selling for. The usual $5 tour is free. It lasts about 30 minutes and ends with a taste of fresh beer. Music was low key, and local - blue grass, rock, folk. Hippies and families were in attendance. Parking was free and easy.

Thursday nights are great here, they had live music and it was packed with people. My only problem was that it took the waitress a while to take our order, but once the order was in the food came pretty fast. I had The Vermonter which is just a turkey, bacon, apple, and cheese panini with mustard. It was excellent, just enough food without feeling like I ate too much. They have many different types of beers there, I got the UFO white, Leviathan Barleywine (11.5% alcohol), and winter warmer. All where very tasty. I would recommend coming before 6pm if you want a seat to eat. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the upper valley.

This is by far the best brewery tour in VT. I hit up what was the last tour of the day which ended up working out well because they were in no hurry at all & I think were more relaxed because they knew their day was almost over. The tour was not given by just 1 person, but a team of 3 which was really interesting. It started with a history of Harpoon & then the VT location and how it differs from the Boston one. They then got into the brewing process in pretty amazing detail. They even passed around the different grains & hops that they use in the brewing process to smell and/or taste. They then took us into the heart of the brewery and even connected a line to the aging tank that was full of IPA and let everyone taste it "green" & unfiltered. It was pretty interesting to say the least. They then took us into the cold freezer storage warehouse which had an amazing variety of cases, kegs and bottles. They then took us to the tasting area which had all the beers they brew and you could have as many as you liked. I thought it was great that they had the Leviatian & 100 Barrel series available for tasting even though they don't brew those in VT. They also had a Cider which I didn't realize they even made. They also were having a little fun and were mixing some of the selections together for different tastes. Some of them were pretty good. They also have a large gift shop area with all sorts of Harpoon branded stuff. They also have a large dining & bar area, but I didn't try any of the food or beers you had to pay for. Outside they have tons of tables & benches & green space to sit out and enjoy the area. This place is definitely worth a trip if you enjoy beer.

I cannot rate the food as I did not eat here (but it looked good!) but can speak on the facilities itself and the tour which we took... The tour was a great way to spend an hour of your time here and was definitely worth the $5! The staff here and tour guides were very friendly and knowledgeable...they took the time to not only explain the history of the company but also the beer making process including a tour out on the production floor...you end the tour with plenty of free samples of any of the beers they have on tap...again, well worth the $5! They also sell a decent selection of merchandise and beverages in the store area. As for the restaurant side, overall the place was very clean, had a nice layout, and a nice laid back/chill type of atmosphere. If you are in the area I highly suggest stopping by for a tour. Two days before this tour I also toured Magic Hat in Burlington and (no offense to them) this tour was 10x better!

We went to the brewery for a late lunch on a Saturday. We didn't take the tour itself. We ordered a sampler of beer and a hard cider to drink (both good and well priced). For lunch, we split an order of BBQ wings and got two specials: fish and chips and a chicken salad sandwich. All of the food was very good and we'd definitely go back again!

As much as I'd like my tourist destinations to be relatively neat, clean, tidy, and well organized I liked the unpretentious quality of Windsor's Harpoon Brewery. For years I'd been planning to come up and take the full tour and on a rare free Friday I got to visit. Located off of Route 5 just north of the main town of Windsor we found an unpretentious place that looked as Vermont as a modern industrial plant could...which is to say, it blended in well with the rest of the landscape. Inside the atmosphere was relatively unpretentious, almost to the point of chaos - staffing was apparently short and there was no one around to explain where the tour assembled, or how one could get seated for lunch. After around half an hour of waiting our guide came around, corralled us and we were off. While the beginning of our visit was rather inauspicious things improved when the tour began. We had a great guide - although she hadn't worked for them for a long time she was well versed in the business and in the brewing process. From her we learned a lot about beer on this particular afternoon - the way Harpoon selects its various recipes, how it picks the ingredients, the way it's bottled, some of the improvements made in recent years and the way it's marketed. Kudos to her. Best part of the tour came at the end when they brought out samples. In all we tried six different brews, one tasting better than the one before. Despite the earlier confusion about seating and ordering that hadn't yet resolved itself we decided to enjoy a late lunch at the place. The food - a couple of burgers for each of us - was better than average and the fries really stood out. However, as with the rest of our visit, the real star was the beer. Samplers were in order and were a great way to end our visit. I'd go back. The tour was informative, the beer was fresh and tasty, and the food was pretty appetizing. There need to be some improvements in service at the place, though. There simply weren't enough people there to take care of the visitors and there was no clear way to know how or where to order nor how to get on a tour. Aside from that...not bad.

Stopped here for some lunch on our way back south. This place is huge! The tours are nice, the beers are cheap, but readily available everywhere. Still an enjoyable experience.

An awesome brewery in the countryside. In the middle of Vermont, you pull up to a place that has become a true destination. We were there on a Friday night and the place was packed. There was really actually great live music and much beer to be had. Unfortunately, we found out quickly, that Harpoon's regular selection of beer is...not very good. None of their normal beers really made an impression on any of us. That's what happens when you're brewery gets too big and successful I guess. However, what saved Harpoon is that, when they really try, they actually do make great stuff. What we sampled from their "Leviathan Series", which should be code for "we actually took time to do this right" showed what they were capable of. The Imperial IPA and the Belgian Quad were beautifully crafted and completely redeeming. Great job. Bonus points: There is this crazy, totally Vermont hippy weirdo "nature park" towards the back of the parking lot next to the creek/river. It's very excellent and includes one of those mazes made from bushes like you see in Versailles - and it's challenging at that! Don't skip out on this!

Had lunch outside on Sunday 9/23/12 and the flies were all over everything. The Lunch was So/So but the service was not the best. If it was swamped I could see why but it was not. I have herd good things from other people.

I would live here if they'd let me. Take the Brewery tour. You will have a ball! They give plenty of samples and they have a great bar/diner where you can get all their beers on tap. If it's nice outside, they have tables where you can chill and.....drink beer. Why are you still reading this? Go now.

I wasn't expecting much after eating at some of the other places in this area and being unimpressed. I was pleasantly surprised. The brewery tour was very informative and included a number of free samples (both of their finished products and of beer at different stages of the brewing process). The food was also excellent. The hamburger was really good, as were the onion rings, fries, and the bratwurst sandwich with homemade sauerkraut. I would definitely go back.

Was up in Windsor over Memorial Day Wknd with some friends and was about to head home Sunday when I spotted the brewery about 5 minutes away from us on the map. As I've had Harpoon before, we figured we needed to visit. Very glad we did. We just missed the last tour of the day, but Josh kindly gave my friends and I a private tour complete with plenty of informative tidbits and of course beer samples. We also had some great sliders from the grill. Can't wait to head up there again.

This place rocks! My wife and I are huge fans of Harpoon as a whole and this was our first trip to their VT brewery and it was a blast. The people who work for Harpoon are all fun and laid back types that are very well informed. We were up for the Octoberfest Road Race and festival. THe whole event was a huge success we had four beers each at no cost extra to us! and topped those off with some Bratwurst. We enjoyed the tour of the brewery and learned alot about their philosophy on beer making. Pretty neat process is used to create their line of UFO beers that are a favorite at the thirstygreek's house. At the end of the tour we sampled a GIANT brew, it was a pilsner from their Levathian series of beers. It was huge and tasted like you got a drop kick from a street fighting hop and then @ 9% etoh ripped a trail of enjoyable fire down your throat. We will no doubt be back next year as well as a few trips to their Boston brewery as well. We left with a nice mixed case of brew including their seasonal Cider that is sweeeeet! If you don't mind the drive and can make a couple days of the trip I highly rec it.

This review is specifically for the tour, I did not the eat at the restaurant. The brewery tour is awesome. It's an hour long and very in depth. They cover history of the company and every part of the brewing process in detail. During which they take you through several areas of the actual brewing floor and provide samples of beer at various stages of brewing. At the end they provide free samples of your choice from a selection of 8 or so beers. There was no limit to the free samples, its done when the next tour is ready to come in. Highly recommend. Great beer and a great tour.

This used to be Catamount Brewery which I loved. They went belly up so now it is Harpoon. Its still good beer made local. Made right on the CT river. They have tours and a place to grab a bite so come and check it out. Be sure to come down Rt 5 a bit more into the village of Windsor. NOt much there but they sure could use some tourists.

Came here to get a stamp on my Vermont brewers passport and have a tour and tasting. We got there at 4:30pm for the 5pm tour. We paid $5 for a ticket and walked around the gift shop and hung out outside (nice outdoor seating!) and then the tour began. There were only like 8 people on the tour which was nice. And there were three workers doing the tour for us. It was about a 45 minute long tour that when into great detail about the brewing process in general and at harpoon. It was immensely informative/educational but also fun and humorous!! I had a great time! During the tour we got to try harpoon ipa as green beer- fresh out of the tank- delicious!! And then we headed to the tasting area where we got to have unlimited tastings of all the harpoon beers. It was amazing!! They also have some 'mixes' the guys do - like harpoon leviathan and cider- Which reminded me of the mixes I used to do with icees at 7-11! All the beer was great- though i may have been slightly drunk afterwards!! It was lovely and totally worth the cost! Definitely try a tour here- you will not be disappointed!!

Awesome place with a large outdoor seating and also indoor. This place is missing a tv by the bar with sport on. The tasting flights $6!!! 5 2oz samples of their beer so damn cheap! Belgium pale ale and the munich dark is my fav there. The beer batter fries were awesome and the spinach salad was a pleasant surprise. They stay open till 9 on the wkends, and start to fill up for dinner at 6. It's a great place to have great cheap beer and food. 2 people we shared the flight, ate fries, hummus, and salad and 1 more drink each $35!!! Without tip. Definitely will return soon.

Best tour in the area which goes through the history of Harpoon, how beer is made, and how beer tastes. Yup, they provide samples so you know what you want to have more pints. The brewpub really looks nice after they had renovated with a nice wood fired furnace in the middle of the dining room. Full shop to get whatever beer swag you may need - shirts, openers, metal tacker signs, taps, bar towels, etc. Food wise - they have options for vegetarians and delicious chicken wings that go well with IPA. If you are in the area, this a must stop.

Very good beer and OK food. The food is not as original as at the LongTrail Brewery a few miles north, and the atmosphere is more urban bar than brewery. The central fire looks good but really is ineffective, and the outside seating is set in a rather ordinary grassy area. Overall the experience is not as authentic as the LongTrail, but their selection of beer is greater and very tasty and at least there is no bloody TV with sport on!

Great beer, and great food! I've been to lunch at the Brewery quite a few times - and always been pleased. The paninis are delicious and grilled to perfection, and the salads are great as well. Some of the best beer around. The outdoor seating is great when the weather allows. Definitely one of my favorite places.

Weird that it only serves until 6 pm on weekdays. Stopped by after skiing and had a winter warmer and their signature IPA. Both were good. The bar featured a modern take on the fireplace and all men at the bar (many of them brewery workers after their shift enjoying the fruit of efforts).

If you're interested in brewing, this is the tour for you. But do make sure to be there on Friday or Saturday before 3pm and sign up on the clipboard to get on it. You get the same speal you do from every other brewery about how beer is made and how their beer is unique, but then you get to walk around the whole factory, including the bottling line and refrigeration unit - something I've never experienced in such an all encompassing manor (been to Sam Adams, Harpoon Boston, Cape Anne, Cooperstown Brewing, Ommegang, Shipyard, Redhook) - then afterward you get to sample beer, which is very cool as well - then they have a whole seating area inside and outside where you can enjoy a pint - didn't try the food, but I didn't come for the food, so I'm not too sad about that

We drove up from Boston for the 3 p.m. Friday brewery tour. We got in around 2:15 to have lunch. The brewery seemed to be under construction and was very disorganized. You order at the counter and they give you a number, but there wasn't enough open seating in the dining area so we sat outside on picnic tables while it was raining. The girl at the counter said our order would take a half an hour (we only ordered grilled cheese/grilled turkey sandwiches) which came with chips (which wasn't noted on the menus,) so we ended up paying extra for bags of chips. The food was decent, but servers were walking all over the grounds to find people who had ordered food, though. Merchandise is sparse and jammed behind the dining room tables. The food counter also serves as the bar and check-out for people buying beer to-go. You have to sign up for the tours on a clipboard, which is not clearly marked. They only have tours on Fridays and Saturdays at 3 p.m., but you can walk in to a small area with signs and watch them bottling the beer anytime... it's VERY loud. People started gathering inside the bottling area at 3 p.m. even though no brewery staff seemed to care that the tour was supposed to start. A few customers kept going back to the counter and were told someone was "on their way." At about 3:20 p.m. the counter girl came to the group and basically asked if we had any questions and held up dusty bottles of each beer and described it briefly. You could barely hear her because of the bottling going on behind us. She passed around some malt and then went to get 4 different pitchers of beer. Because of VT law, you can only get small samples, so you get tiny (smaller than Dixie cup) size samples of 4 kinds of beer. That's it. If you've ever been to beer school at Busch Gardens, the Sam Adams tour, or most other brewery tours, you will be very disappointed. Apparently the machinery broke down earlier in the day, or we would have been able to go on the floor. This wasn't very educational and sampling was lame, and there were tons of cobwebs. --- P.S. They don't take American Express credit cards.

Visited for the first time today, enjoyed a beer and late lunch outside on the patio area. The place was relatively busy with a good portion of the crowd seeming to be locals, which was a good sign. The beer garden area was great, there was a small fire going with Adirondack chairs around it, and a dog water bowl leading me to believe you could bring your four-legged friend to join you outside. The food was good, and affordably priced, but nothing super special. Our server was pleasant and attentive, but she did not have as much knowledge about the beers. She was unable to answer a few of our questions when we were making our beer selections, which was surprising (they were pretty basic, we aren't beer connoisseurs!). She mis-informed my husband about the alcohol content of the beer he ended up ordering (a difference of 4.5%) which we only discovered when picking up some beers to take home before we left. She did seem young, so perhaps she is not old enough to enjoy the beers and does not have as much of an understanding of them. We did not take a tour, which we will definitely do next time after reading the other rave reviews! All in all, definitely worth a stop, and we will surely be back - but maybe just for appetizers instead of a meal with our beers.

Unless you are lost for some reason off of Rt 91 in Vermont you would really have no reason to ever stumble across the Harpoon brewery up here unless you were going there on purpose. The Windsor brewery will give you a few good reasons to show up, hell the good folks at Harpoon managed to grab my ADD attention last weekend with their annual weekend long BBQ contest. What else could you ask for on a hot summer weekend? Cold, fresh Harpoon beer and mountains and mountains of smoking, fresh off the grill BBQ. There were vendors there from all over the north east it was pretty wild. Lots of locals head to Harpoon just to fill up their growlers too, not a bad idea. Anyway, next event up there is Octoberfest which I might hit just to camp up there and drink fresh Harpoon for cheap all weekend.

Great place to stop with the family for lunch. They offer a great menu in their beer garden and there is a lot of room for little ones to run around. I would definitely suggest trying their sampling menu of beer, it was great. Surprisingly, I even enjoyed their cider. If you get a chance, I would also take a walk around the sculpture garden next door.
