We just got back from a four day, three night stay at the Paw House. We stayed in Shakespeare's Retreat, one of the larger (but not the largest) rooms at the inn. Kirsten, the on-site general manager, made sure that we had a great stay. She said she's been there about 4 and a half months and is the first live-in manager since the owners moved out in 2006. Other managers had not lived on the property. It sounds like a tag line, but the Paw House really does cater to dogs. There is a penned in area for them to run around in, a separate building called Mario's Playhouse where you can leave your dog in an indoor run if you don't want to take them with you, and there is an abundant supply of poop bags, towels, and extra bowls for food and water. FYI - There are 2 rules that were more of a pain for the guest than the dog. (1) You can't wear your outside shoes into the house, so bring some slippers or clean inside shoes. Otherwise you are walking around in your socks. (2) Your dog cannot stay in your room alone for any amount of time and they are not welcome in the breakfast room. To take your dog over to the Playhouse before you ate breakfast meant that you had to change shoes and walk across the lawn and back. Pros: Penned in outdoor play area, a walking path that goes for about 30 minutes on the property, separate indoor runs for each dog in a building that is heated/cooled, three choices for breakfast entrees every morning, dogs are welcome in the common areas and anywhere in the inn as long as they are with you. Cons: The indoor/outdoor shoe rule, the location of the inn means that most activities are a bit of a drive - anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes away.

The Paw House is a godsend for those of us with pets who've stayed in hotels where they treat you like second hand citizens, just because of our furry companions. Mitch and Jen have set up such a sweet little Inn, I'll be back for sure! It's located just outside of Rutland within easy access of hiking trails, Killington and all other fun things that Vermont has to offer. Each room has a theme of a different canine hero (I stayed in Rin Tin Tin) and is pleasant and cozy. They also have a separate building for our pups to stay, for those meals/events in which we don't involve them. This building is equipped with a big bathtub (for cleaning up after romps in the mud), TVs, cubbies and a food prep area for our pooches. Mitch & Jen also have trainers come by so owners can opt in for training sessions (unfortunately not Cesar Milan). Also on the grounds is a play area with an agility course to test out your pup's jumping skills. It's all in good fun- One last thing, the breakfast that is prepared in the morning is oh so yummy!

Our first time here (me, my husband, and our dog-from Boston): *Extremely friendly staff *Very clean *Since this place caters to owners who love their dogs so much, you automatically filter out to people who have a common joy- dogs *Great location for access to hiking adventures with your dog(s), great food (a few places that's are also dog friendly - the trak-in restaurant with an unbelievable view!), and local shops (Brandon and Woodstock) *They have the convenience of the nice kennel if you want to eat somewhere nice without your furry companion - they play music and a tv while the dogs are in the kennel *Delicious breakfast every morning *The details Mitch and his crew take care of- can't compare to anywhere else who allow dogs at a B+B WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!!!

The Paw House Inn is in a cute residential neighborhood of West Rutland. Mitch greeted us as soon as we pulled into the driveway. He checked us in and showed us around the grounds and house. He also gave us a lengthy list of restaurants that allow dogs outside on the patio in the warmer months, as well as a list of local attractions. We stayed in a room called The Chase. It was large and clean, perfect for our long weekend stay. The bathroom was a bit tight but we were happy to have our own bathroom. Many Inns have common bathrooms but this is not the case here! Breakfasts were yummy and great to eat on the back porch with our dog every morning. The playhouse area in the back yard was also clean. Our pup had a great time playing with his fellow visitors. Our dog stayed with us the entire trip do we did not use the kennel. It's an option if needed. All of the staff were friendly and gave us tips and directions for daily events. No questions were left unanswered. Mitch and his family were awesome!

Had a great stay at the Paw House Inn. Came for skiing at Killington, an easy drive. Murphy took fantastic care of us and our two dogs. The breakfasts were delicious (made to order omlettes, waffles with local syrup, fresh muffins). Our dogs were happy in their own self-contained kennel while ae were away skiing and I like how they even played music for the dogs when we were out. Would love to come back!

My husband, myself, and our lab Rosy just came back from a weekend at The Paw House. I found this place on Travel Zoo, so we got a great price, but I would pay full price in a second! The owners were by far the nicest people I ever met, and we immediately felt like family from the second we pulled up to this enchanting B&B. It was my husband's birthday and when we got to our room, it was completely decorated with Happy Birthday signs! Well, as the name implies, this place is all about your dogs! There is a " doggie park", beds with comforters, ( for the dogs,) a place to keep them when you need a little " adult" time, and in general, a feeling that your fur babies are as important as you! Every morning, you are to a delicious Vermont breakfast that is utterly delicious. There are only 6 rooms, so you bond with all the guests and their fur babies. It is the warmest, loveliest environment, and I recommend it highly!

Home away from home! The Paw House Inn is a great place to stay if you enjoy traveling with your pets. Mitch,instantly made us feel welcome and at home. With a Great Pyrenees in tow, it was so nice to be made a part of the family instead of receiving the usual turn up of the nose treatment. The welcoming of the pets like guests with special attention and treats was a refreshing change. The House is kept wonderfully clean by the exceptionally friendly staff and each room has it's character (dog hero). There is easy access to hiking trails and activities with that special character that is Vermont. Near Killington, there are plenty of nearby attractions and easy access to Hiking trails. If you travel with pets this place is a must consider location!

The personalized welcome sign (for the dog) at check-in says it all. This place takes catering to dog and dog owners seriously. Includes dog park and kennel on property. Can leave the dog in kennel and owners of the Inn will check on them while you are gone. Very pet friendly area. The inn is an old house. A few spots were a bit rough. No coffee machine or bar available to guests. However there is a fridge available so you can bring your own. Very accommodating owners who make a great breakfast.

We were there a few months ago for my dog's birthday. Their "agility park" was a LOT smaller than I was expecting based on their website. I expected a nice, strong, secure fence considering it's a dog bed and breakfast, but it was pretty flimsy. The gate had a double entrance, which I like, but it was again, not very secure. I supposed it doesn't matter too much since you can't leave them in there unattended, but I definitely expected better. Mario's Playhouse is a kennel with concrete floors, chain link walls, and a small grooming area with a raised wooden bed. It has no lock as other reviewers have mentioned. It's specifically built to be secure and easy to clean. We used it for about 30 seconds. There were two extremely dog aggressive dogs placed in the kennel next to the one reserved for our dog, and I felt extremely unsafe leaving my dog in there even for a second. I'm pretty well versed when it comes to dog behavior, and these two were out for blood. My dog was terrified, and she's well socialized and confident. And these owners left their dogs in Mario's Playhouse virtually their entire stay while they sat up in their room on their deck, drank beer and filmed video of each other. There was another dog who was dog aggressive and while the owner was very nice, kept walking it around on a retractable cord leash, not even the stronger tape version. The Inn itself is nice. It's older, but well kept and clean. The walls are thin because the Inn is old. If you're a light sleeper, definitely bring ear plugs. You do need to take your shoes off when you're inside. The food was good, and Mitch and Jen were very nice (as was Stanley, the resident greeter!). We enjoyed that part of our stay very much. We won't be returning because of the issues with the other dogs. On their website, it states that all dogs must be friendly towards people and friendly towards other dogs. That clearly wasn't the case when we visited. And though that's not directly the fault of the Paw House, it was enough to cement our decision to never return. The other dogs there ruined our night.

My and my gf along with our two shih-tzus spent two memorable nights at the Paw House and we would love to go back soon! The entire house is so clean that you can't find a single hair on the floor which speaks to the excellent cleaning job done by the staff. We loved the special treats from Mitch & Jen (owners), including goodies to both humans and doggies. The bedroom features a comfy, roomy doggie bed! Outside of the house, needless to say our dogs loved the fenced play-ground and the doggie day care facility was clean and well-maintained. They even put up a Christmas tree and soothing music was playing while we left them there to have dinner. Mitch and Jen also took care of our babies for a few hours during the day and sent us photos of them playing with Stanley and Brooklyn (their own dogs) which gave us peace of mind. It' was great to see that they got along so well. Last but not least, we LOVED the breakfasts cooked and served by Mitch every morning. The home-made scones were the best! We woke up craving for his breakfast which was weird haha. Overall, it was just such a comfortable and memorable experience. The Paw House really treats dogs as VIP guests. Both you and your four-legged friends will immediately feel the difference from any other B&Bs the moment you walk in the beautifully decorated house. We strongly recommend a visit to the Paw House.

Wonderful stay here! We were welcomed to the Paw House by Stanley (the Inn's main pup) and Mitch - immediately felt like home! Welcome basket, chocolate chip cookies, and treats for our pup. For an Inn that is for dogs, it is SPOTLESS. The common areas and the guest rooms - all very well maintained. I was worried due to an allergy to thin haired pups, but NO problems at all. Mitch, Jen, Stanley (and their lovely friend from down the street - who was helping with breakfast one morning)... all nice, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Wonderful suggestions on where to try locally - especially the farmers market and delicious restaurants. Breakfasts were delicious, kennel was up kept - but a bit cold. The yard and dog park was great. Our pup Tek made many friends, especially Rex an extra large gorgeous German Shepard from NY. We cannot wait to go back in the Summer months. Only down side was that no shoes were allowed in the house, we wish that we were told before hand. So we went to the local store and grabbed slippers.

my husband & i brought our two small dogs here while our house was being renovated. Mitch (The owner) is wonderful! very accomodating! He makes everybody a delicious 3 course breakfast each morning. The dogs love this place! we ordered dinner from Cara Mia (they deliver) and their pizza is delicious! and when we went to Rutland, we ate at A Crust Above (I recommend their hot sauce)

After researching this place online and viewing their website I was quite excited to stay here with with my dog and get some awesome skiing in. However, this excitement was sadly diminished once I arrived. We booked the largest suite at the B&B, the "Bark Avenue Suite", and there were multiple issues. Firstly, there is a lock at the downstairs entrance to the room but no lock whatsoever on the actual door!Creepy!! Secondly, the bathroom itself comes with a tiny bar of hand soap and small shampoo bottle. Be sure to BYOS? (Bring your own soap)! Lastly, if you want a cup or sorts to drink from in your room, sorry, no go there either. Overall the room isn't that bad, just missing all the basic standard touches. Especially considering the absurd amount we paid for this suite. Not worth it! Now to my real issues: the dogs are not allowed to stay in the room unattended while you are away. "Ok, that's fine because they have a dog facility to watch them". Oooooh would you be wrong in thinking that. If you care for your dog the way I do, then they are a member of the family, not just an animal. The facilities are on the same level as that of your local dog rescue center. 6 chain link fenced-in kennels with a hard concrete floor and wooden dog beds built in. Completely completely sub-par, especially considering how elaborate they make it sound on their website. On top of that, there are no locks on the door to the facilities, so, say you leave your dog and go out for dinner... Joe Scary Schmo who happened to be driving past the B&B could easily pull over and steal your dog for his own. (Bostonian here so cautious, these vermontains are a little more trustworthy in general. But seriously, NO LOCKS! For the price this B&B charges, especially for the largest suite in the place, this was a MAJOR disappointment. Being this far away from the mountains, you'd expect more attention to detail. As a pet friendly place, if you plan on never leaving your dog unattended, it's not bad. If you want someplace you can leave your dog comfortably, without feeling bad that they are on a concrete floor in a chain link fence, certainly look elsewhere.

This was our second time staying here. It is well worth the stay if you have dogs. Not only are there nearby hiking trails, they have a large fenced area for your dogs to run off leash. The inn keepers and staff are always going out of their way to please the guest. The first best thing is how much they cater to your dogs. A very close second is the wonderful breakfast served. If you are expecting a five star resort, this may not be for you, but for an inn that allows dogs, it is top notch.

Excellent weekend vacation! Felt very at-home and it was a nice little get-away with our pup. The individual room was warm, very clean and very charming. The house itself was the same, warm, clean and inviting with tons of charm. The only thing I was a little hesitant about was leaving the pup in the playroom. Although they check on the dogs and take them out for walks and to play, there is no lock on the entrance door, which is a separate building from the Inn. It's in the back of the property and in a fairly remote section of town, but being from a big city and used to having things stolen right out of my back yard, I was a little nervous about leaving the dog alone when we were off the property. Being able to lock/unlock the door would have put me a little more at ease. Otherwise, a great escape and great vacation. Highly recommended!.

I can't say enough great things about the Paw House Inn! My girlfriend and I brought our 6-month-old puppy to the Inn for a fun and relaxing weekend in Vermont and that's exactly what we got! The pictures online don't do justice to the beauty, cleanliness and comfort of the rooms. The entire house is impeccably decorated, extremely homelike and above all, CLEAN. I don't know how they do it, but there wasn't a stray dog hair to be found anywhere and there were dogs everywhere! We stayed in the room named "Bad Dog" and it was just a dream. The innkeeper, Mitch, made a delicious three course breakfast for us and the rest of the guests every morning and he and the rest of the staff were just so accommodating with anything we could possibly need. Our puppy LOVED romping around in the play area in the back and the on-property hiking trail was a total highlight for all three of us. Don't be deterred by the complaints of The Playhouse - it was totally clean, cozy and very sizable for any dog to spend a few hours while the humans go have fun. On top of everything, the Paw House is perfectly located; just a quick 6 minute drive to lots of restaurants and stores and a beautiful 1.5 hour drive to Burlington. I will definitely be back to the Paw House and I will definitely bring friends!!

My wife, two cocker spaniels, and I spent two wonderful nights at the Paw House this week. Major plus was Mario's Playhouse, which has several comfy kennels for your pets so you can explore or go out for dinner without them for a bit. When we arrived, Dexter and Chewie's names were already written on a chalkboard for their kennel. This space had a separate A/C and television sets for the dogs, as well as a tub if you wanted to clean them up. Next, the dogs really enjoyed the agility course in the backyard area. This gives the dogs a chance to run and play off leash, while owners can relax on Adirondack chairs under a shady tree. Having dogs eat a fine breakfast with you is cool. With so many dogs staying at the inn, it's a miracle all the dogs got along. Very special place with great service and attitudes. I found the staff were extremely helpful in charting out activities in the area, and choosing pet friendly restaurants, hikes, or other eats. Our boys swam at Chittendon Reservoir and stayed at the kennel while we toured Morgan Horse Farm (about an hour north in Middlebury). Like so many post-industrial cities in the northeast, Rutland's got its share of struggles. This inn is on a wonderful, rural stretch in West Rutland, but only a 5-10 min drive from downtown Rutland which has a bunch of nice restaurants, shops, and bars. The ride along Rt 4 West from I-89 to Rutland offers a lot (killington, pico, woodstock)...

AWFUL!!!!!!!! Not worth $200 a night. Area is redneck town. Place is run by a teenager with hickies on her neck. Towels were wet and moldy smelling. Dog cannot be in the Inn alone so when you leave without your dog, you need to put them in a kennel that smells gross. Doors on the fenced in play area are broken... SERIOUSLY people, do not go there.

Thought this place was overpriced for what we got. Felt like this place was run by teenagers, and although it was wonderful to be in a place where the dog was welcomed, I thought they didn't get the b&b concept very well. I did not feel at home here.
