One of the greatest places in downtown Rutland. The restaurant is cozy, the staff are friendly, and the food is out of this world. Little Harry's always has some kind of great special going on. You can't go wrong with the lamb, or the pad thai. They have a good selection of beer and wine, as well as a full bar. Definitely call ahead and make reservations if you're looking to eat.

We made a reservation through open table here for dinner. The service was adequate. The bread was good. The sweet butter was good, but make sure you ask for at least 2 or 3 because the serving size is about 1 teaspoon which is too small for 2 people. Side salads came with the meal. The lettuce in the salads was served in 6" diameter pieces which should have been cut more in the prep. The vinaigrette dressing was almost all oil. We had to request a side of balsamic vinegar which was finally brought to us after being told that the dressing was a vinaigrette which we acknowledged and as such should have vinegar in it which it did not. We ordered the blackened ahi tuna with spinach and rice at $23. The tuna was ordered medium rare and was cooked unevenly but mostly medium. It was slightly tough. It was supposed to be sushi grade and if so could have been offered and prepared seared but was not. The spinach and rice had no flavor. We also ordered the cod with bread crumbs for $20. The menu said that it was prepared in lemon, white wine and garlic. There was no taste of wine, lemon or garlic. The fish itself was slightly tough. It was brought with one small slice of lemon. We asked for more lemon and were were given one more very small slice (not enough to make up for the fish's lack of taste.) The cod came with rice, which was hard and tasteless, and sugar snap peas which we requested be steamed, but arrived coated in oil. We passed on dessert. The restaurant seemed popular on a Tuesday night in the summer so, maybe you should give it a try. For the price charged, we would not return.

Outstanding Food, Absent Service Please note that I specify that the service was absent, not poor. When our server (who I believe is the owner) was actually with us at our table and not servicing the entire bar and a section of the dining room by himself, he was excellent. Unfortunately, this didn't happen nearly as often as it should have. I'm going to guess that someone called out of work today because I just cannot imagine that the management wouldn't have anticipated the need for more wait staff on a Friday night the day after Christmas... The food, though, was worth the wait and length of our stay (over two hours for appetizers, salads, entrees and dessert)! Especially outstanding were the Green Curried Mussels and Fresh Basil (be sure to save some bread to soak up the extra sauce), Roast Half Duck with all the trimmings, Ravioli Diablo, Grilled Jerk Swordfish (a special, but essentially the same dish as the Grilled Jerk Scallops, just with swordfish instead), and the Key Lime Pie. Portions were absolutely perfect... We finished everything on our plates without feeling too full! I didn't love that they were stingy with the breads and sweet butter: a small portion, just enough for each of us to have a couple of pieces, was brought with the appetizers, not right away and never refilled. Also, the selection of wines by the glass was somewhat lacking for me as it didn't include a sweeter option other than white zinfandel (ugh). Overall, though, definitely worthy giving it a try if you are in town for at least a couple of days!

I enjoyed the atmosphere. Very inviting, the owner took the time to explain the menu, even though his restaurant was busy. I would recommend anybody give Little Harry's a try for dinner.

A quaint little restaurant with soft ambiance makes the atmosphere more than enjoyable. But really, it's the food that gets this place 5 stars from me. Get the garlic bread app!! I had the chicken parm and it was delicious. The service was excellent.

Absolutely wonderful! Warm atmosphere, adequate children's menu. Lots of drink choices. I ordered the salmon stuffed with Cajun crab, brown rice and roasted carrots. It was heaven! Hubby ordered lobster ravioli and said it was so good he wanted to cry! He is a harsh critic. My salad had a red pepper ranch dressing, and they served varied breads, a sweet bread and a baguette. I only rated four stars because service was a little behind, although it was prime time on a Friday night and our waitress was hustling. I think maybe the kitchen was a little behind, but very forgiveable given the hour we went. Delicious!

The garlic bread for two, was garlic cheesy deliciousness, and it was enough for 6 adults to each try a piece and a few pieces left over. Two in our party had the fish and chips they said the fish was very flakey, and good fries. They would order it again. My husband had the NY strip and enjoyed every bite. Steak is what he rates a restaurant on, he gives it 5 stars. My son had the salmon and crab cake. This was just ok, as the crab cake was a little dense and extremely spicy. He likes spicy food, but he had to take breaks between bites, so he didn't get to enjoy it as much as he should have. He did finish the meal but it took forever. I'm also still not sure how I feel about corn in a crab cake. It wasn't bad, just different. My father in law and I had sandwiches (jerk chicken and NY strip. Both good, and filling. Little did we know It was graduation night and most places did not have a table for our party. I called little Harry's and the phone went to vm, I thought I struck out again...but they actually called me back and said if we could get there in a few minutes we could have a table. They where very busy, but I never felt rushed or not attended to.

The service was really good. Even though there was a full house(which isn't really saying much because the place is tiny) the waitress came relatively quickly and was very nice. The food was OK in the moment but leaves you feeling kind of greasy, especially if you order the garlic bread. Not great, but a nice, intimate environment.

I'm not sure Little Harry's is as good as it used to be. On a recent visit on their Thai night my lady friend and I had two appetizers and split a main dish of pad Thai. The first appetizer, the shrimp in crispy skins accompanied by a teriyaki raspberry sauce, was indeed excellent. However, things went downhill from there. The fried calamari were way over breaded and the vinegary cucumber sauce just didn't cut it. It didn't go with the dish. The pad Thai which had been excellent years ago was flavorless. We requested a couple of extra sauces to perk it up. The atmosphere is cozy, the prices a bit pricey. It will be a while before we give it another try.

Went for dinner on the night before Christmas Eve with a party of 4. I was surprised how busy the restaurant was. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. The pad thai was good especially for Rutland. It was served on a plate which is a bit odd. It really felt like it should be in a bowl so you can add hot sauce (which they did not have) and stir it all up. It came with a lot of shrimp that were cooked perfectly. The server suggested adding more peanut sauce to it and brought a side of it which was a great recommendation. I wouldn't have liked it as much otherwise as it was a bit dry. The chop salad looked killer with huge chunks of blue cheese on it. The fish and chips also looked like it was cooked perfectly and came with a very healthy portion of fish. All in all it was a great meal!

This place was recommended to me by the Hampton Inn since Countrymen's Pleasure was closed today. It was a nice little bar/restaurant. I ordered the chicken Tiffany. Perhaps not what I expected but it was tasty anyways. The salad was great and I would guess made fresh (not the crappy bagged mix). The blue cheese dressing was also very good. The chicken Tiffany was a stuffed breast of chicken that was breaded and fried. It was served with a side of angel hair. All was done well. The chicken was a bit dry and took a bit to cook. But over-all this was a good experience and I'd stop back. The waitress was very nice and attentive as well.

Outstanding. I live on the apps menu. Garlic bread for 2 and 2 apps to share is more than enough for a meal. I recommend the pad Thai, red red shrimp, and spicy mussels. Add a couple drinks and a nice tip and you can get outta there for $50 or less a couple.

Great local establishment near Killington. Little Harry's is good, home cooked style restaurant offering a variety of entrees and appetizers. The food and drinks were great. I had steak that was cooked perfectly, the sides were amazing and nothing was over-salted or over-buttered. The service is a bit slow, but since I'm a spoiled city slicker, its hard for me to make a comparison.

We were there pretty early for dinner but we were the only ones in the house! You would think more attention to us as dining customers - but not so much. Amazing garlic bread... but foul tasting Malbec (wine), and over salted and spiced chicken - hardly edible.

In the heart of downtown Rutland is Little Harry's; t is a wonderful small ecclectic restaurant & bar. The service was friendly and courteous and the food was outstanding. If you're in the area, I highly recommend a stop and this great little eatery!

Went in with s group of 11 that needed separate checks. The response to something like that usually is a good indicator of how the service will be. No problem, and indeed the service was great. I had the Pad Thai, which was excellent. Only four stars, though, because I've had some truly outstanding Thai in Seattle. There were no complaints from the rest of the group, which ordered a pretty good sample of the menu.

Good food, but disappointing service. Dining alone on a business trip, I waited several minutes to be seated. Then more than 5 mins to order a glass of wine, by which time I was ready to order dinner. My dinner came before the wine, and I had to point out what was missing. Dinner came in a chipped dish on a chipped under plate. I was never asked if I wanted another glass of wine. It was busy but not that busy and my server had enough time to sell the next table on renting her vacation condo, complete with going off to write down her phone number. Rutland has some good food, but it lacks the service to match.

Vegan friendly, reliably tasty food. I love the veg Thai Red Curry, which has nice heat. The Pad Thai can be made vegan, too, and it's yummy. The veg chili is actually spicy (unusual for Northern New England) and quite tasty. We've been going for years and will continue to dine at Little Harry's.

Walked in for dinner literally a few minutes before closing and had a great meal. I was a bit concerned the service might be indifferent showing up that close to closing, but they still shined. The restaurant is small inside with the main area being dominated by the bar and two small areas of tables are tucked off to the side of the bar. The bar was seriously hopping although it seemed to be mostly regulars there. When seated myself and my dinning companion were given menus which ended up being different from each other especially the wine & liquor section. The waitress was not sure which one was correct so we kind of just went with the flow. For my meal I had the stuffed pork loin with roasted potatoes, apple sauce & chutney. It was very good. The pork was very tender & juicy. The stuffing was good and had a good amount of seasoning. The apple sauce was homemade and actually had some flavor unlike store bought ones. The chutney was mango based and paired well with the pork. The wine selection was pretty good although the by the glass selections were pretty limited. They also had a decent cocktail selection although I did not try one.

My one BIG complaint is my mother found a piece of what appered to be a wood chip in her corn bread. We reported without making a big fuss and not one person came out to apologize.....HELLO customer service??????? Still gave it 3 stars because the food was amazing

A group of six of us were visiting Rutland while on a motorcycle trip. We were pulled in by the eclectic menu that seemed to be able to satisfy all our tastes and we were not disappointed. The corn shrimp bisque was awesome, and the Thai mussels, corn bread and shrimp skins were as we'll. Two friends loved their pad Thai and the pasta dishes ordered by the men were really tasty. No one was disappointed, the beers on tap were a hit and our waiter was friendly. The atmosphere was soothing and inviting, though just a little dark when we sat down. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area!

Really great local place. Many people know each other. Definitely a Vermont vibe, laid back. Being a biz traveler I was pleased there was room at the bar. The grilled Caeser was excellent, savory, garlicky, with anchovies if requested. A unique and delicious salad. One complaint would be the lack of interesting whites btg. They do have lots of choices for both red and white in general. Flank steak was very good. Tender enough, more would have been heavenly, less would have made it tough. The cranberry chutney is homey and good. Chicken parm on the next night was great. Red sauce that did not give me heartburn is a good thing. They have an adventurous chef who makes great specials with a modern vibe. But, there is also lots of old school meat and potatoes and seafood. Such a nice staff. My favortie place when I am in town. And the trendy fashionable place Table 24 around the corner closes its kitchen up at 9p. Not Harry's. You can get dinner until 10p.

The waiter was fast, polite, and answered all of my questions because of some dietary concerns. Its one of the few places open on a Sunday night in Rutland in the off season that's neither fast food nor a biker-townie bar and they didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is very cozy and could see myself going back. They could add a good old American hamburger to the menu and you have to ask them to make their Simple Chicken which was reccently taken off the menu. Otherwise the price points, portions, and overall experience were a highlight to our vacation in Vermont.

I used to love dining at Little Harry's. I went back tonight after a little break and was sadly disappointed. I was served a plate of fried calamari that had a large fly fried right into one of the pieces. The worst part is we didn't discover it until we had eaten most of the dish. It made me really sick to my stomach. There can't be a lot of care being put into the food preparation for a large black fly to be served to a guest. I have to say I wasn't as pleased with the pad Thai as I have been in the past, it was a bit dry as was my husbands stuffed Tiffany. The reason for two stars despite the fly was the good service. I must say as a restaurant professional I hesitate to leave negative reviews, but in this case it is deserved. Diner beware!

My wife and I love this place. While it's true that on occasion in a town like Rutland you can get a better meal and can easily spend more money (usually have to), most of those places are inconsistent. Some meals are worth the money, sometimes not so much. It can be a frustrating town to eat in. The food here is good and consistently so...not great, not foodgasmic but honestly, always good. We have tried several different entrees from their eclectic menu and have never been disappointed. The ambiance here is often borderline romantic and with the place being so small it is usually a fairly intimate feel.

I have been looking for a decent steak in central VT, NH. I order one almost everywhere I go... Simon Pearce brought me a dry, charred piece of barely recognizable meat, for example. It's the same everywhere; Norwich, Hanover, Lebanon. But here, at Little Harry's last night, I got a STEAK. Juicy ribeye done to perfection, not dry and charred. Perfectly sized 14oz cut of meat. With tasty taters, veggies, caramelized Marsala onions and the kicker was a sweet tomato chutney on the side. It was easily the best steak in this area.

We liked the Green Curried Mussels so much that we had two entire plates of bread to sop up the delicious sauce (we were only 2 people). It was nice that they were so generous with their bread. We also had never heard of a Grilled Caesar Salad before and are now fans - what a great idea! Portions were huge, too. We had ordered the lamb entree special that day and were only able to have a few bites since we were too full from the mussels, bread, and salad. This entree was also delicious, and we had the leftovers for dinner the next day. Now we want to try everything on Little Harry's menu!

My wife and I visited Little Harry's at the recommendation of the host of the bed and breakfast where we stayed for our New England vacation. The small place had a wine list that is varied and extremely well priced. The waiter recommended the curried mussels and they were well cooked and the curry provided enough spice. This was a tasty start to our dinner. My wife ordered the pasta special and I ordered the jerk pork tenderloin after hearing the waiter explain the jerk spice is a house specialty. Both plates were extremely large portions. The pasta was fresh and tasty. The pork went well with the apple dressing and the pickled beets. All in all it was a very pleasant evening out. Good quality food, friendly service and a fun wine list. My only complaints would be the plating as it looks messy with the over sized portions.

i have only had the pad thai and the yellow curry here but both were quite delicious. they had large portions and the prices seemed pretty normal. the interior is also bright and lovely and inviting.
