Server was Laura tonight. Post Spartan beast. She was the right combination of sarcastic and fantastic service. Made my NY heart swell. And feel at home. I was craving a burger. And the menu drew me in. Garlic Sweet Potato fries? Kale Slaw!? Let's do it. Food was good enough to rival burger places in NY. Seriously. I'm shocked. If in Rutland, come and visit. Ask for Laura.

The Reuben review caught my eye, and being my favorite sandwich for years, I thought I would try it. My expectations were somewhat high and I most certainly was not disappointed! I asked for it with no dressing, as I prefer mustard only. It is served on what looked like marble swirl rye, and what makes the sandwich remarkable is the corned beef. It was obviously hand carved, and had just enough fat visible to add flavor. I discussed the sandwich with my server, and found out the corned beef is roasted in-house and hand carved! Enough said. The service was very good, and my server was attentive, and the hostess came by and checked in with me as well. Nice to sit on the rear outside patio.

Really excellent food. Atmosphere inside is so, so. We ate on the back patio. That was nice. Wait staff seemed rushed.

Kelvan's is a great place to stop by for lunch, and the menu always has a great variety to choose from. The wings are amazing, along with the burgers and fries. The mexican is also a great addition to the menu. Be sure to check out the daily specials.

Kelvans is my favorite place in Rutland for lunch. My wife and I are regulars: we have NEVER had a bad meal or experience. The menu boasts something for every taste, and the daily specials are always excellent. The prices are reasonable when compared to other local establishments. The staff is friendly and the owner always makes a point of stopping at our table to say hi. If I didn't work out of town I'd eat at Kelvans more often.

We had a great lunch there yesterday. Waitress was really nice. My Cobb salad was perfect! Son's burger (off regular menu, not kids) was great. Other son had a burrito from specials menu- good but not great. We'd go again.

The side salad veggies were not too good. Sick looking cukes and maters. I had the rib-eye special and it was melt in your mouth delicious. Loved the outside patio seating.

I really wanted to like this place..unfortunately it was the first and last time. I gave it two stars only because the staff was welcoming and attentive. Other than that, it was pretty disappointing. I dont understand how in this day and age any one can serve olives and hummus and flat bread, and send out two pieces of toasted bread, a lump of barely recognizeable orange hummus with a few sliced canned black olives on top of a scoop of romaine lettuce. This was on the special menu. They accomodated a request for broiled salmon on the Caesar salad instead of chicken. The salmon smelled so fishy that we didnt eat much of it...the salad was just barely fresh..couldnt tell if there was dressing on it or not. Dont bother.

Not the greatest. We went for just apps and drinks and the apps were dry and the cocktails were weak

Great food, cheerful servers and a nice little restaurant with full bar and kid friendly in a great town! Tried their burger, marble rye veg sandwich, butternut squash soup, clam chowder, quesedilla & chicken fingers! Food was well prepared and while it took some time to get to our table, it was well worth the wait!

I've eaten here a couple times now for lunch and was very satisfied both times. The reuben is huge and sweet potato fries are tasty. The servers are friendly and attentive. The pricing is fair...$9 burger and fries, $11 reuben and fries. I would totally eat here again when I'm back in town!

First time there not memorable. But second time was the charm, good specials, friendly service - great place before a movie or the paramount

What a pleasant surprise this restaurant has turned out to be. After several years in a location operated by different management that exhibited ever-declining interest in serving a quality product, Kelvan's opened only a few months ago (as of this writing) under new family ownership, and I am really impressed by what they've done with the place. We've been a couple of times, and the food has been well-prepared, thoughtfully creative without being pretentious, and happily served by a friendly waitstaff. The menu itself is simple yet not overly basic: salads, sandwiches, apps and nightly specials. That's it. That may be the secret. Highlights? An truly excellent Philly steak sandwich; a wonderful house chicken sandwich; an uber-fresh mesclun greens salad; a quite tasty calamari appetizer with banana peppers and goat cheese. The prices are very reasonable -- they've somehow, to date, avoided falling into the "well, gosh, higher prices MUST mean higher quality" trap that has ensnared Table 24 and Roots, two otherwise very good Rutland restaurants. Honestly, this is the kind of eating establishment that Rutland needs more of: simple meals, very well-prepared, served by pleasant people in a comfortable semi-urban setting, for an utterly reasonable (not cheap -- reasonable) price. Well done.

We ate a light dinner here after the halloween parade with my sister's family. The kids just split an order of fries b/c they ate before the parade, but the waitress did let us know they could cook chicken tenders for them. The adults had. the bufffalo wings, caesar salad, cajun chicken salad and a reuben with sweet potato fries. The wings were ok, nothing special, but the salads and sandwiches were very good. Our server was attentive even as it got very busy. Will be back to try more.

Nice place. I enjoy sitting at bar and talking with others. They have good specials and the best Angus burger in town. Plus they Rock Art Brewery on tap. Relaxed and comfortable.

I had a great meal - rib eye special with onion and grape marmalade (I was thinking what are you doing putting fruit on my rib eye). The rib eye was a perfectly marbled, melt in your mouth steak. The grape and onion was an unusually good addition to a great steak, and a lot more interesting than most steak houses are doing. I had the same steak at a Capitol Grille, and The Palm, and Kelvans was less than 1/2 the price and head and shoulders better. Seriously, if you'll pay $45 for a rib eye with coffee grounds rubbed on it ("Kona encrusted") you can try the grape and onion. The staff is exceptionally nice and attentive. The ginormous panko breaded mozzarella sticks were a completely different experience than the deep fried cheese sticks that most restaurants serve. The mesculin greens with goat cheese, pecans, and balsamic dressing was really nice way to recover from the huge mozz sticks. I also tried the sesame chicken with ginger scallion hoisin sauce appetizer. They seem to have forgotten that they are cooking in Rut-Vegas, which is OK because the food takes you to a better place. The standard menu is mostly salads, sandwiches, and burgers, and the entrees change as specials. It's a really comfortable and casual space with nice patio in the back. Kelvans offers a range of food that can accommodate the urge for cheese-steaks and burgers to the hankering for something a little more exceptional. I have gone back to Kelvans many times and I have two recommendations (1) get the specials; and (2) always get an appetizer special. The specials are really special. I had an amazing meatloaf with a complex flavor and texture of fennel, and garlic. The salmon was perfect. Brad the Chef/Owner does an amazing job with fish. The fried oyster po boy was crazy. The fresh oysters melted in your mouth like juicy puffs of meat and they overwhelmed the po boy roll and covered the plate. I just had the Kelvanator wrap, which was an over the top combination of slow cooked BBQ brisket, kale slaw, roasted red peppers and onions, with french fries and a panko breaded mozzarella stick inside the wrap. It's like a Vermont Primanti Brothers Sandwich. The specials are an amazing value. I had 30 minutes between kid activities and stopped in for a beer and paid five bucks for a plate of hand made pasta purses with fontana cheese, proscuitto, with a creamy alfredo sauce. It is always worth it to stop in for an appetizer. The curried butternut squash with craizins and candied walnuts is amazing. The downside is that I had lunch with my 8 year old son who asked for chocolate milk so Brad described how he made it with a chocolate ganache. So Hershey's syrup doesn't cut it at home anymore.

Fish tacos are amazing. Kale slaw is to die for. People are great. Good choice of micro-brews. I'm a fan!

I love this place. Whenever I get a chance to dine in Rutland this is where I go. The BAB burger is the best burger you've ever had... Period. Lots of daily specials and great service. A must try!

The wife and I stopped here last night on the recommendation of a friend. We liked this place. I had the "Bab" burger and it was great! Cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The wife had the skirt steak and it was awesome! It came with avocado relish which was quite tasty. The chili fries were quite good also. Service was good at both the bar and in the dining room.
