Last time I went they sold my favorite Pinot Grigio by the glass called "Torre di Lunaa" sooo needless to say I'm a big fan. The food is great too and it's a nice place to go in Lynchburg. Only downside is that it's usually really busy and the wait can be really long.

One of my favorite restaurants in town! I love the fire baked pizzas and the salads are not only fresh but the portions are huge! On top of the good food is the great service you will recieve there. All of the waitresses are knowledgable and very cordial. If you frequent a place enough you even get to know how real the people are who work there! I enjoy ever outing whether alone or with a group of friends. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a hopping bar full of people from many different walks of life. Too large screen TVs keep you up to date on the latest sports scores, and they feature beer on tap from the Jefferson Street Brewery!

Hip decor and good service but the pizza was below average - crust was not fluffy like fresh bread, and they were stingy with the toppings. However they were cheap, and located in a pretty spot of old town, and had a cute outdoor patio. Just don't go expecting great pizza. (Note: I'm not from Lynchburg, so locals would know better than me how this place compares to the other options in town).

New best, favorite pizza joint. Enough said

Waterstone has a nice atmosphere though a little noisy. The pizza is tasty, well made and not too terribly expensive (~10 bucks for a filling personal pizza). The ingredients are good quality but none of the pizzas are particularly inventive. The nod has to go to Rivermont Pizza in that department. Service was attentive and quick. I looked at the beer menu and didn't have very high hopes. The oatmeal stout appears to be the only thing worth trying there, the remainder of the beers are so mild as to not be worth the premium. Unfortunately the oatmeal stout isn't even that noteworthy. Like most brewpubs they try to appeal to the masses who would normally order a Bud Light. Bud Light makes perfectly terrible beer, no need to imitate them. If the beer quality improved and the pizzas got a little more daring I'd say they'd be a four or even five star place.

Had a nice vibe, and the pizza was FANTASTIC! I tried both the Margherita pizza & the Greek pizza, both were delicious but the Greek pizza was definitely the winner. My husband's Caesar salad was interesting...the romaine was actually grilled. He said it was unique and tasty. Atmosphere was perfect for a catch-up dinner with old friends, the waitress was good, the calamari appetizer we ordered didn't come out until half-way through the meal. However, it was accompanied by the manager, an apology, and the word "complimentary." Since it was fairly good calamari, we'll forgive them. The wait was nearly an hour, but in my opinion worth the wait. I would definitely return if I lived nearby.

Our party of 6 all enjoyed the wonderful pizza, great selection of craft beers, fun atmosphere and terrific wait staff!

Took a business trip to fair lynchburg a few days ago. Two nights. Quick googlesearch before air departure for "microbrewery" and "lynchburg" found something called Jefferson st brewery. I made a mental note. After my two travelling partners got settled in the hotel, I did further research and found out that the beer was actually only served at a few select locations. The most frequent mention was waterstone pizza which was apparently right below the brewery in the same large stone and brick factory looking building. I had mentioned the breadth earlier to one of my travelling companions and when we all met up in the hotel lobby to go out for dinner, he asked if I'd like to go to the pizza place. I told him I found the same place. We drove over to it. It's on a road that is a couple blocks below the main street in downtown lynchburg. More or less built into the side of a hill, the building is part of a cute but very finite neighborhood of small businesses in gutted and retrofitted old factory looking buildings. Within eyesight was train tracks that also ran parallel to the road and beyond that a river almost obscured by trees. The entrance was very inviting, as was the chalkboard outside advertising the specials. There are no burgers on the menu, however, it seems that a burger special is nearly always running. Your typical special, "cowboy burger," of "Mexican burger.". Yes we ended up going there the next night too. :-) They had a lovely spacious and dark inside seating area . A spiral metal staircase went up somewhere, but I didn't explore this. There was some Jefferson st beer paraphernalia near the entrance. The bug brick fire hearth was visible for patrons to see. The bar was very tasteful and of medium size. One or two tv's. We had seen people eating outside when we drive in and asked for seats outside. This was lovely, as the weather was great, although the faint smell of sewage wafted up no and again from either a storm drain or the river. Never so bad I wanted to leave, but surely something the restaurant owners should bring up with the town sometime. The beer was greater. Very good pale ale and stout. Those were what I had. One of my buddies got the five beer sampler. Yes they only had five beers. Food was great. Buddies had a Reuben and burger special. I, ever the iconoclast, got the Neapolitan pizza with the addition of pepperoni, at the waitress's suggestion. All was wonderful. Pizza was typical good quality brick oven pizza. Toppings were of very good quality. Pepperoni style was sandwich (almost 3 inches in diameter) and cut thin. Great time overall. When we went back again the next day with a couple lady coworkers and an additional male coworker, it was equally good.

One of the more popular places to eat in Lynchburg, VA. The architecture of the restaurant is beautiful and very inviting. The fire-roasted pizza is pretty good. The crust is nice, thin and crispy...but some of the ingredients were just o-k. If I'm in these parts again, I think I would give it another try. This place is very popular... You better reserve ahead otherwise you're in for a long wait.

I love Waterstone's fire roasted pizza and highly recommend the hummus appetizer and the Greek pizza. Add a Jefferson Street Microbrewed beer, a beautifully restored building with nice atmosphere and you'll see why this is such a popular place. You may have to wait to be seated but it's worth it.

This might be the most popular restaurant in downtown Lynchburg. Make a reservation or wait in line for up to an hour for a table, and the bar is usually jam packed on weekend evenings as well. The gourmet pizzas are great, and there are maybe 20 thoughtful varieties that will please anyone. A full salad and a pizza will feed a couple. While you're here, try the on-site brewery, Jefferson Street Brewery, which makes four or five varieties of beer. They sell growlers to go.

Stopped here on our way through going to Roanoke one night. It was a pleasant night so we ate out on the deck. One issue eating out on the deck at night was there isn't enough light to read the menu. We had to use our flashlight app on our cell phones to read . They need votives on the tables or more lighting. Our waitress Ally was incredible, very helpful, knowledgeable and pretty. Kudos to her. My boss and I ordered a salad and Penne Alfredo with chicken. The sauce on the penne was light and didn't have much flavor, the salad was plentiful and had a good flavored dressing. Good tunes coming from the speakers, mostly 70's rock. We decided to stay at the hotel upstairs Claremont Terry through recommendations of our waitress,Ally. It was a great idea.

The only good thing about this pizza was the crust. The menu says fresh ingredients, but they must mean they freshly opened a CAN. The following items were canned: Pineapple, olives, artichoke, mushrooms. This is NOT fresh. Only the basil was fresh. Regarding the appetizer, the calamari was so-so, but it was topped with old, hard cheese slivers that had lost it's taste. Not a good experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone with a palate that knows REALLY good, fresh food.

Overall, the food was delicious. Some of the pizzas offered are a little bland, but others are excellent. The hummus app was amazing and loved the oatmeal stout. Definitely worth a try.

This is my favorite place to eat in Lynchburg. My husband and I always enjoy our meal. We usually try to visit before 5:30 for dinner because we are not big fans of waiting for a seat. I would rate the food as 5 stars but service isn't always consistent.

It's Ok.... Not as good as all the other reviews, but decent..... Slow service, and they don't take reservations

Decent pizza, but still doesn't compare to good NY style pizza. I got the supremo and my friend got the sicilian. We traded a slice to each other to taste more variety. The supremo was definitely better, despite having half of it basically burnt. As for beer, the light is worse than Busch Light, the amber is okay, and the honey orange wheat is decent, but definitely no blue moon. The atmosphere is pretty good inside, but the waitstaff is not so much. The waitress forgot my friend's beer order for about 20 minutes and was not too pleasant to talk to. Oh well.

So, Waterstone is always a no-fail palate pleaser. Anytime I visit, there's always a 75% chance that I'll stop in and grab a pie. Among the items I can recommend: Their Classic Cheese, Margherita, Federal Hill (my sister's favorite) and the Supremo (dad's favorite). Their calamari is also pretty delectable fare, as is their crab dip. Not the acme of apps, but certainly good filler until your meal arrives. Their salads (I recommend the Greek & Grilled Caesar), like their service, is hit or miss. This is where I get to my only complaint about the place, there are times where service has been fastidious and kind and I've eaten and been out in no time. However, I've been here quite a few times and there are always extraordinary lags through the duration of the meal. Sometimes, we've waited ten minutes to get drink orders fulfilled, and to get refills you feel like you have to twist someone's arm. Tonight my sister ordered a sandwich with french fries, they both arrived cold/lukewarm, unfortunately, we're both uneasy about sending things back. It, seemingly, took forever for our dinner to arrive (mine was 5 minutes post delivery of her plate). It just seems like there's an indifference to customer attention here (a sort of laissez faire attitude), but the food is good and their burgers [usually an item on 'special] are, apparently, to die for (I'm a pescetarian, but I've heard very good things, or should I say I've heard moaning when people are noshing down beside me!-Disturbing). Nevertheless, I encourage anyone to give it a try, it's true there are times where the noise is loud, but that's with any pub type establishment. They have a couple of TV's to keep sports fans entertained and their brownie sundae is a rich, sweet finish to the evening.

Beautiful restaurant. We went on a Saturday evening and had to wait 35 minutes for a table. No proper waiting area for colder temperatures--if you did not get to sit on the one bench, you were left standing awkwardly in the foyer. We sat upstairs near the brewery which was okay. The climb up the stairs could be challenging for an elderly person. The menu was extensive and we ordered pizza because it looked like the specialty of the house. Boy, were we wrong! The crust was soggy--my marguerite pizza was literally wet in the middle. I had to eat it with a fork--the crust never got firm enough to pick up. It was not appetizing. My husband ordered a pizza with meat and it too was limp. We also ordered the bruschetta. To our error, we did not read the description--it was olive based and not good. The only redeeming quality for the bruschetta were the baguette slices. Our waitress was pleasant and the service, once seated, was very good. If you want atmosphere and alcohol, this the is place for you--drinks were flowing for patrons the entire time. If you are desiring good pizza, go somewhere else!

Typically, if you show up at a small town eatery with a party of 8 including 1 infant, 1 toddler, 2 1st graders, 1 7th grader, and 3 adults, your expectations for speed/quality are low. Pleasantly surprised, the food was EXCELLENT and service spectacular. From the florentine pizza, pepperoni pizza for the kids, salad and pasta right down to the fruit our waitress snagged from the bar for the kids. I mostly appreciated the fact that the waitress took our kids' food order with the drink order and that food was out lickety split. If you've ever tried to dine with 4 kids who are starving and on their last spurt of energy from an afternoon at the children's museum, you know what a relief this was. Oh, and the oatmeal stout was delish. I think they brew their beer on site. :)

My wife and I have been coming here very often for probably 3 years and it's our favorite in the Roanoke/Bedford/Lynchburg area. It has the best pizza around. The French fries are great too. I'm a beer fiend and the pale ale is a favorite of mine. It would defiantly stand its ground against some of the more famous pale ales around the country.

Nice thin crust fire roasted pizza, portions are great, and the choices are overwhelming. They have a local brewery on tap with something for everyone. Must try if you're in the Lynchburg area.

Waterstone Pizza is located near the river in Downtown Lynchburg and it's actually part of the same building that houses the Craddock Terry Hotel. The entire building is beautiful and I loved the interior of the restaurant. There is lots of exposed brick and the entire place feels very open, including the bar and open kitchen that featured a brick oven for cooking pizzas. They also offered patio seating but an afternoon thunderstorm had arrived just as we walked in for lunch so we sat at a table by the window. The menu offered a nice selection of pizzas. I had a tough time choosing between The Garden (basil pesto, red onion, bell pepper, artichokes, mushrooms, tomatoes, olives, mozzarella), Spicy Thai (mandarin orange sauce, chicken, carrots, peanuts, cilantro, serrano chiles, & mozzarella), Buffalo Chicken (buffalo sauce, chicken, red onion, scallions, carrots, gorgonzola, cheddar cheese), or The Sicilian (red sauce, sausage, cappicola, salami, oregano, basil, romano, & fontina). In the mood for meat, I ordered The Sicilian. The Sicilian pizza featured a variety of interesting meats. The salami and cappicola provided a salty flavor while there was sweetness from the tomato sauce and cheese. Because I like my crust to be crispy and rather charred, I asked the waitress to make sure my pizza was cooked a little longer. I'm glad I did. My pizza wasn't particularly crispy and any less and I think the crust would have been too soft. The oven might have been a little too hot and the cheese seemed to melt and pile into the middle of the plate when I tried to pull away a slice. Still, it tasted very good and I liked the unique flavors of pecorino romano and fontina as the two cheeses as something different from the typical mozzarella that's on most pizzas. All the pizzas are 10-inches and they would normally be enough for a couple people to share. Since I hadn't eaten anything that day, I was able to finish an entire pizza by myself. The Sicilian was around $11 and most of the pizzas on the menu were in the $8 - $12 range.

For Lynchburg, this restaurant isn't half bad, and I like how they rehabbed the historic building. The parking lot could use some work, but the whole street is slowly undergoing it's own rehab so I guess that will come in time. I gave the Spicy Thai pizza a shot because I've never seen it before, so why not? It came with sesame sauce, chicken, carrots, peanuts (which I choose not to get), cilantro, Serrano chilies and mozzarella. No tomato sauce, which probably wouldn't fit. If it was me, I would have pickled the carrots. Anyway, the pizza is thin and tasted pretty good, and probably very good compared to the regional competition. As for the in-house brewed beer, I wasn't very impressed. I ordered the 5 flight sampler, and none of the beers really stood out for me.

  • Kris S.

Not a bad beer on tap... They are Jefferson Street Brewery too so have a flight to taste everything. The manager gave us a tour which revealed that the beer taps were directly connected to the vat! Even house made root beer. Hubby tried the Ultimate Italian sandwich to which he added fresh melted mozzarella per the suggestion of the bartender which was huge for the money and house made chips. He loved it. I had the spaghetti bake with bolonase. Y-U-M.

5 stars is probably generous, but Lynchburg doesn't have the greatest food scene and I've seen much worse places given better ratings. It's a solid establishment that I recommend to anyone looking to get a bite and a beer downtown. First things first: I've had both an ordinary (Sicilian) and non-traditional (BBQ Chicken) pizzas, and I think they're pretty well executed. The BBQ chicken was light on sauce, which made it a little too close to cheesy bread, but the Sicilian was very satisfying and well-made. I highly recommend the sausage, in particular, which at this place consists of thick slices of mild Italian. The pizzas are ~$10, and I think could reasonably be shared by 2 people but also satisfy one big eater; your mileage may vary. I've also randomly had a soup, which appears to no longer be on the menu, but wasn't worth ordering anyway. They serve several Jefferson St. beers, which range from poor (the stout) to pretty good (Summer Bock). The bar has three nice big TVs that are visible from the whole place, which was nice for the World Cup. The building and decor are quite nice, as others have said. I've had great experiences with the service, and have met some really nice customers there as well. It's not going to blow your mind, especially if you come from a pizza mecca, but I now make sure to stop in when I'm in town.

Everyone in Lynchburg, especially the college students, rave about this place. Let me explain why. It is the newest trendy place to go. Although it is not new anymore it has a city vibe and people from larger cities will feel more at home here. As far as the drinks. They do have a brewery and brew four to six different beers. They are decent but not great. The food is good. The pizza is awesome although you can get the same pizza for a lot cheaper at Arosto on Wards road which is owned by the same people. I would definitely recommend going but I would not recommend waiting in line for 2 hours. Its not that good.

  • Chris L.

Waterstone's got something familiar about it to me, and I think it's because it reminds me of California Pizza Kitchen. Obviously a more small-town version of the place, but the mix of drinks, pizza, and salad/sandwiches gives me that CPK nostalgia. I even order a similar milieu of dishes here - the Thai Crunch Salad and a Margherita pizza! The dressing for the salad is deliciously thick and full-flavored while the tomatoes on the pizza are fresh. Waterstone also has a series of Jefferson brewery beers and they even sell growler's if you want to go big (or you can go home!) with your beer that night. Waterstone's definitely one of the better spots for a good sized group if you're all looking for a decent priced pizza with a few brews in the Burg.

This is a great place. Nice interior and atmosphere. Had both casual and slightly dressy folks. Went with two kids and the lively crowd masked any noise from my kids. Had the Thai pizza. So yummy and not too spicy. Kids menu was great for the price. Wish I could have ordered the generous sized pepperoni pizza,.drink and dessert for $5.99. The best part was my salad. Ordered 1/2 salad and it was big enough to split with husband. It was the Italian which contained so much meat and cheese it had to cost more to make than what they charged. Couldn't keep the kids folks out of there. Will be back during our next visit to area.

Excellent Evening We arrived at 6:30 on a Fri. night, and were told there was a 30 minute wait, which was unsurprising. The hostesses were pleasant and efficient. Our wait was actually a little less, and while on the one hand giving out my phone number to a random business might give some people pause in this world of digital privacy concerns, I liked them texting me when our table was ready as opposed to holding on to some oversized pager that vibrates and lights up to call you. Our waiter was pleasant, knowledgeable and took some of jokey attitude with aplomb. Appetizers were delivered quickly and were delicious. Personal pizzas were actually big enough for two, especially after the appetizer. They were hot, with fresh ingredients, great flavors, the crust was perfect, really outstanding. There was a major mistake on a pasta entree that was professionally handled and very quickly rectified. The entire restaurant was busy and efficient, we had multiple people stop at the table to deliver food and beverage and help keep the table clean. Most importantly none of the staff seemed stressed--everyone was busy and working together, which makes a busy restaurant a fun place to be in my opinion. Desserts were tasty, the tiramasu was nice and light, plenty of cinnamon without being overbearing. There was still a wait when we left, and I understand why. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering the freshness of the food. Overall, one of the best dining experiences I've had for a while--Highly Recommended.

I had just returned to Roanoke from Spring Break on March 29th. I hadn't seen my boyfriend in 9 days so I was looking forward to a lovely evening. He suggested this place to me and I agreed, after checking out the menu. It was an hour drive but we didn't mind. We got there around 7 P.M. and we got the last available table. For an appetizer, we ordered crab dip, because I never had crab before. I didn't like it, because it tasted like it smells, which is not a good smell. He loved it though. For dinner, I had the margarita pizza and he had the supremo pizza. We were both extremely pleased. For dessert, we shared three large scoops of vanilla ice cream, which were covered in caramel sauce. Definitely coming back for my 21st birthday. One sore: They don't accept the Discover card.

Great beers! They have Jefferson St. beers, only found here & at Shoemakers, but Waterstone has a much better selection. The pizzas are outstanding, service at the bar is also above average!

Waaaaay overhyped. It's just crappy pizza for almost $10 a pop. I'd honestly rather just go get two little Caesars pizzas for that price, and they'd taste better.

We've eaten at The Waterstone on a few occasions and have found the atmosphere a pleasing balance of casual and fine dining (for a pizza joint/brewery). I've ordered several of the pizzas which range from pretty average in creativity (a margherita) to exotic (Thai pizza). They offer gluten-free pies and pasta, which is a major plus and there is no live music inside so the noise factor is acceptable. My favorite of the beers is the Honey Wheat--great with the orange garnish and pairs nicely with the pizza or alone. The Pilsner tastes like Bud Lite, which I personally don't mind, but may make beer snobs cringe. The Amber Ale is reminiscent of Bass with a toasted coffee flavor. The Pale Ale is my least favorite, as in my opinion it has a piney, lemon Pledge flavor. The stout was not as bold or strong as I would prefer, but still flavorful with a caramel, instant coffee ground edge. The "guest beer" in the flight last evening tasted like Robitussin (Pear Ale from Devil's Backbone). They don't take reservations and it's a small restaurant, so bringing a party larger than four may be a long wait and a big hassle if you go during peak hours. Also, the waitress we had was snooty and unpleasant. It seems that with few exceptions, the restaurants around town that hire very young, attractive girls to serve are doing non-ogling customers a disservice since they are often incompetent on a variety of levels. Also, they don't accept Discover. If you're staying at the hotel, this is an especially convenient restaurant that is joined to The Craddock Terry. We really enjoyed being able to purchase a growler and thought it was super that we were able to have it refilled for only $10. Stellar.

When I am in the mood for pizza, this is always my go to. I can always get exactly what I'm wanting. They have an extensive list of toppings to chose from. They serve local beer from the Jefferson Street Brewery, and even offer cider..which is nice since I can't drink beer. They offer gluten free dough for those gluten free. Dessert: last time I went, I got the brownie. Normally when you get a brownie its a little square of a brownie......but not here...I had ate almost my entire pizza and was feeling super full, but wanted something sweet. Being a little fat girl I ordered it and when it got to the table, I almost cried. It was half of a brownie pan. ONE BIG GIANT BROWNIE. This could of been shared with 3 people and everyone would of gotten more than enough. It was good, but definitely too big for one person. Beware of the giant brownie.

Nice place to eat good pizza. Love the beer and the in house micro brewery Service is good can get crowded in weekends. Roads are still under construction in area Bathroom could be larger as well nice lay out inside

Waterstone is pretty good. That's usually what I say when people ask me about it. I suppose its a matter of preference on how you like your pizza and beer. Waterstone's pizza tastes great but to me it seems like it is lacking something. It is slightly bland in comparison to other fire oven pizza shops I have been to. Also, the beer is brewed upstairs on top of the restaurant but i've never been too impressed. There are multiple breweries around Lynchburg and I would say I like Jefferson Street Brewery the least. Again, good beer, but just not great. The bar is also very small considering the size of the restaurant and is often extremely crowded on the weekends.

Waterstone used to be our favorite GOTO place in Lynchburg, up until about 8 mos ago while my wife and I were enjoying a quiet lunch one Saturday afternoon. We had our usual beer each then ordered the half Greek Salad to share, and a pizza. While eating the salad, I'm always aware of olive pits so I chew with caution, and I'm glad I did!!! As I was eating, I bit down on a small Phillips Head Screw! Almost breaking a tooth!!!! The waitress was a sweetheart, & took the screw to show the Manager. He then came by and said that there was no way that screw could have come out of his kitchen and all but accused me of planting in my own salad!!! As much as we loved this place, I highly doubt that we will ever set foot in there again!!! And we will do our best to stear people away from there!!!! Sorry Waterstone, Tom Tompkins

We literally stumbled upon this place on our way home to NC, and we are glad we found it! The location is pretty sweet, but tucked away. We drove right past it before we realized that was it! But fortunately there is ample parking right behind the building so we didn't miss it. This place has a really cool atmosphere. It's in an old building downtown that has been refurbished, and it still maintains a lot of that old vintage charm. I always like a place that has some character to it and this one has it. There is a brewery right there and they serve the beer at the restaurant. I didn't get an opportunity to try any but it appeared to be pretty popular among the customers and there were plenty of different types. It was available by the pint or in growlers. As indicated by the name of the place, it specializes in pizza. It is fire roasted 'za that you order by the pie (reminiscent of Brixx). I enjoyed mine, but I found the crust to be a little too doughy and floppy for my taste. If I'm getting fire roasted, I like it thin and crispy. That said, it was pretty good and the ingredients tasted fresh! We don't make it to Lynchburg very often (actually this was the first time ever) but if we're ever back in town we will be sure to pay this place another visit.

I love love love Waterstone! It's the ideal place to take family when visiting from out of town, or just to sit out on the patio with friends. Their pizza is wonderful, but the fried green tomato and fresh mozzarella stack is my all time favorite. I recommend it to anyone and everyone looking for a place to eat in Lynchburg.

Great gluten free and regular pizza. Was a bit slow but service was very pleasant and I think they were just dealing with a bigger than normal Friday night crowd. Maybe because colleges just started back. We'll definitely try it again next time we're in town

Tried this twice. Beer is very good, but the pizza was just okay. Service seemed to not care, and replied to everything I said with one word "excellent". I'm amazed by the fact that on both visits an infant was screaming at the adjacent table. Who brings an infant to a microbrewery? Go for the beer!

It is pretty apparent that Lynchburg really loves Waterstone pizza. We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday night and the place was pretty packed. We gave the hostess out name and waited about 30-45 minutes for a table to open up. Initially, I had very high hopes for the beer simply based on appearances of the place. Really nice decor with the "micro" brew house right up stairs. I tried three beers, the Pale Ale, Dunkel, and the "light because the other two beers were simply not the best I had and think that the pale ale and dunkel's flavor and color profiles were off. Almost like a twang taste on every beer For a premium of $5.00 each for a mediocre pale ale and Dunkel and $3.50 for the light beer, I was hoping for much more and I have been to a lot of brewpubs that were much better a charge a more reasonable price. Heck there are no transportation cost associated with the finished product so please explain to me how the outrageous prices are justified. The pizza on the other had was very tasty and in a class of its own. It was definitely 5 star pizza quality. I was very happy with my Florentine Pizza which is a white pizza with sun-dried tomatoes and basil. Our server Jake did an excellent job! We were never left long or wondering if he would be back. He was knowledgeable about the menu and answered our barrage of questions kindly. I will definitely come back and hopefully the beer quality will improve and they find the right price for their product.

Waterstone is where we had a meeting of our organization's visiting professionals. The service was good, friendly, and attentive. The rustic decor was nice, too. My Ultimate Italian sandwich was really excellent, but the broccoli-cheese soup was a bit bland tasting (perhaps being pared with the spicy Italian meats?). My friends enjoyed the Sicilian pizzas, but one said the Greek was a bit under-seasoned. Overall, very nice, and would go there again for that sandwich alone!

Great pizza, good ambiance and good service but the beer is a little of a disappointment. The pale ale was not much to write home about for an American Style Pale Ale. They need a good West Coast IPA. The Stout had good taste but no body.

Had the craft brew- very very good. We didn't have the pizza, we had other dishes but all of the food was delicious. Great atmosphere- sitting outside near the river- and good service. Will definitely return.

The pizza is great, as it is their speciality, but when they venture out into other types of entrees, the result is subpar. They tend not to fill the plate and for the price, the quality is definitely not up to a five or even a four star rating. I felt the quality of their sandwiches was equivalent to that of Ledo's pizza.

This is definitely the best pizza in Lynchburg. The wild mushroom pizza is incredible!

Had a wonderful experience tonight at WP. Though it did not start off this way, spoke to the manager about an issue, next thing we knew he had comp'ed the total bill. Amazing experience. WP was already in my top 3 and this solidified this restaurant. Manager was awesome

Best pizza in Lynchburg (and in general around here!) I love Waterstone Pizza! It has a great staff, great venue and DELICIOUS pizza. It's super reasonably priced and worth every penny. I've tried almost every pizza on the menu, and I've liked them all. My favorites are the Margherita (the restaurant's most popular item on the menu,) the Rustica, and the Waterstone white pizza. The pizza here has a thin crust that's perfect. The ingredients are fresh, and it'll never be soggy or burnt. I also love the salads. You can get a half salad or a full-sized salad, which is pretty big. I like ordering a pizza and a big salad and splitting both things with someone else. It's a perfect amount of food. If you eat less, you'll probably have some pizza leftover. My favorite is the Thai salad...it has the right amount of crunch and sweetness. The Italian salad is probably the most filling because it has a ton of salami, bacon, prosciutto, sun-dried tomatoes and two kinds of cheeses. I've never had one of the sandwiches there, but I hear they'll all good. My friend is obsessed with the tomato and mozzarella BLT sandwich. They have a couple of draught beers from Jefferson Street Brewery (which is right upstairs.) Also have a martini and wine menu (nothing amazing, but there are some good options in there!) Waterstone has outdoor seating, which is great when it's nice out. It's also one of the few places in Lynchburg that's open on Sunday!!

I come here about twice a month. I love their specialty pizzas (PLEASE MAKE THE CHEESEBURGER PIZZA a permanent item--soooo gooood) The friend green tomato stack and their Italian chopped salad are my favs too. AWESOME BLT. Really no complaints, other than it can get a bit loud when it's packed. (But being packed it a sign it's well received) Also, best playlist of music of any restaurant in the burg.

Great pizza and good food. The beers are okay. It has a young professional crowd.

Okay so this may be the best pizza in Lynchburg. But that is like being the tallest midget in the room. The beers and salad are what make this place standout. Having been here a few times it just gets boring if you like pizza. It could be because I have always been able to get good New York or New Haven pizza most of my life. The rest of the menu is fine and make it easy to enjoy. But 3 stars for the pizza was a stretch for me.

So with all the good reviews I really had high hopes for this place. Certainly a neat historic location, and I always love a place with good craft beers. I enjoyed the flight of the Jefferson Street Brewery. The staff was friendly and attentive. However, the pizza was just ok. I had the BBQ Chicken pizza. The sauce was pretty good, as was the crust. But the chicken was just boiled or something and had zero flavor. I also don't think the cheddar or whatever the orange cheese was appropriate for the style. Living in Texas we have a multitude of options, and other than the craft beers this would not stand up to any of them from a quality perspective on the food.

My husband and I decided to try this place for our weekly date night, and we thought it earned a solid 4 stars. We started with the honey wheat beer, very similar to Blue Moon, which we love. But at $4.50 for a pint, I'd rather drink 4 Blue Moons from a bottle at home. We shared the Thai salad for an appetizer. We ordered the full size for $10 but definitely could have split the half. I am used to the thai salad at California Pizza Kitchen which has like 15 different toppings, so this one seemed a bit plain to me, but it was tasty. We got the special pizza (don't even know the name) but it was a white garlic sauce with chicken, red onions, spinach, mushroom, roasted red pepper, and 2 kinds of cheese. Very tasty, although my crust to topping ratio was a little heavy on the crust side, IMHO. Overall, a pretty good place. The decor was awesome! Exposed brick throughout and very charming. We got there at 5:30 and sat right down, but when we left an hour later, there were at least 50 people waiting for a table. Crazy for a Wednesday night. I would give it 5 stars if the beer were cheaper and there were more toppings/less crust to the pizza. But we'll be back. Oh, my husband says it gets bonus points because "it's so loud in here, nobody can hear me burp." LOL

We looked up this place on our way up from NC... It was awesome! Really interesting location, the restaurant is surrounded by old industrial buildings. The restaurant itself is factory chic. First off, the beer was cheap ($4.50/glass), and more importantly delicious. For the meal, my Mom and I split a large greek salad and the sicilian pizza. The salad was HUGE (beware!), but it was delicious and well-dressed. The pizza was hot with a wonderful crispy crust. The brownie sundae was decent- definitely not the highlight of the meal, but satisfying nonetheless. Our waitress was also extremely attentive- I give the service an A+. I would recommend this restaurant to almost anyone! We will definitely be back.

What can I say but: Great craft brewed beer from Jefferson Street Brewery. Great homemade pizza. Great, fast, friendly service. I will go again if I am staying in Lynchburg, VA. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Good pizza - could change up the menu items. Good local beer from brewery upstairs. Based in an old shoe factory. Friendly bar staff. Busy Saturday night but no problem finding a seat at the bar. Long wait for a table. Popular place.

Thin crust authentic fire oven pizza with a oatmeal stout from the in-house brewery. It doesn't get any better in Lynchburg. Great selection of unique pizzas or create your own. If you're not familiar with Jefferson Brewery, get a sampler flight.

Pizza. My favorite food. New York. My favorite place to eat my favorite food. Where to get my favorite food when I'm not at my favorite place... but in Lynchburg, VA? Waterstone. My husband found this place after I interviewed for a job in Lynchburg. I'm sure glad he did! The first time we went, we had the Specialty pizza listed outside on the blackboard... with artichokes, pineapples and chicken... and their special drink of the day, Blood Orange mojito. So delicious! We shared a half portion of the spinach salad, and lunch was deemed a success! The second time I went with my brother, we had the Waterstone Supremo and Italian Chopped Salad. The pepperoni on this thing were HUGE! The pizza was cooked perfectly... crispy, chewy... paradoxical textures that make a great pizza... it was bursting with brick oven goodness! The Italian Chopped was delicious, yet they were a bit heavy with the gorgonzola. They have this cute special menu, three courses divided into "Heats" in honor of the Olympics... all for $20.12! Need to go before the games are over! Will definitely be back!

This restaurant is a pleasant surprise in Lynchburg, where the corporate restaurants seems to be king. Waterstone Pizza uses a brick oven to cook their pizzas, which is excellent. I have even here several times and have always enjoyed the selection of pizzas on the menu. The one time I strayed from getting pizza, I enjoyed a delicious Tomato and Mozzarella BLT. I highly recommend the brews that are made upstairs as well. Beware, at peak times wait times for your brick oven cooked pizza can become long due to size constraints of the brick oven. This is really the only complaint I've ever had about Waterstone. The food and atmosphere is excellent and very much worth the visit.

I loved the pizza, fried green tomatoes, beer sampler, and huge brownie. I'm looking forward to going back to share with more friends. I thought the toppings on the pizza were a little sparse but the bigger than normal app and desert made up for it. Staff was friendly and decor was nice.

Three of us dined on a Saturday evening. This will be the last time. We were seated in the patio area per our request because the noise level indoors made it challenging to hold a conversation without shouting. The salads the ladies ordered appeared to be on par with fast food quality: the lettuce was wilted, the tomatoes not particularly ripe, presentation was unimpressive . The pizza tasted fine although it was soggy. I had to fold it in order to eat it. The worst part of our experience was our male server. His lack of personality and engagement, his mechanical demeanor, really put us off. At best he appeared indifferent. At worst he looked angry to be there serving us. Also, he made no meaningful suggestions and showed no interest in enhancing our dining experience. What a disappointment!!!

This is my favorite restaurant in town for a really comfortable, casual, easy dinner! The pizza is awesome, and I've heard their salads are delicious although I haven't tried them yet. They brew their own beer, which is delicious and have a nice wine list as well. The ambiance is one of the big selling points, though. It is just such a beautiful, comfortable dining room - so cozy in the winter especially watching the pizzas getting made in the wood-fired oven. They have a nice bar with some new, beautiful TVs for watching sports. They sell growlers, although I haven't bought one yet... there's always next time, though! It gets crowded especially at prime dinner hours, and they don't take reservations. So, plan accordingly. They also won't seat you until your whole party is there. I like to arrive around 8 pm to not have to wait long and also not feel rushed to leave your table as soon as you're done eating. Such a great local restaurant! I highly recommend it :)

I go to college in Lynchburg and I had heard great things about this place. Went in with some friends and very high expectations. Everything was beyond expectations. Great Fire Roasted pizza, Delicious beer from the Jefferson St. Brewery upstairs. Although we had about a 30 min wait, Service was fast and very attentive. Highly recommend this place.

A Lynchburg Favorite! If you come to my small fair-weather town for which I currently call my home and are a pizza and beer enthusiast like myself, you must stop into Waterstone Pizza. All of their food and beer is made fresh and brewed in house. Jefferson Street Brewery located upstairs provides the beverages while the very friendly and attentive staff provides a great social atmosphere and spectacular cuisine. The crab dip is a must try regardless if you have ever had crab dip in your life before or not. It's amazing. All their pizza choices are great with the option to make your own and their other dishes such as pastas etc are quite good as well. How they present there salads although pleasant to the eye is a pain to treat and cut and eat (this may be with the caesar only), as it comes still on the stock with the garnish and dressing accompanying it. All in all if you live in the area or are just passing through you need to stop in. You will not be disappointed. Typical wait on a weekend 30min - 1hr.

Didnt even know this place was down by the tracks here in old lynchburg. Skip depot grill as they are way overrated and come straight here. They have there own craft brews if your into that, and a large menu of brick oven pizzas. Great service from the waitresses and look forward to coming back to try more of this menu.

Had a great dinner here recently. Started with the crab dip, which my date said was delicious, though I am not really into crab dip! I ordered a Greek salad to start. It was a huge portion and full of feta and other goodness. For dinner, we order a pizza. It was a thin, crispy crust. Every bite was amazingly yummy. For dessert, I wanted the brownie sundae. Well, this dessert is definitely for sharing, maybe 3-4 people. The two of us did not finish it my any means. But it was tasty! Service was prompt and courteous. Definitely enjoyed this place!

I've been 4 times since they opened and have never found anything good. Pizza is soggy and the angel hair pasta I had on my most recent visit was overdone. Almost like it was microwaved or left sitting in hot water for way too long. Beer is bland and not on the same level as any other local brewery. The wait to be seated is almost unbearable and they don't even seem that busy. Am I unlucky, or just don't get it?

I loved this place!!! I came here by myself last night after a long day of being in class for an intensive at LU. I was immediately seated at the bar and both bartenders were very attentive to my needs. I got the honey wheat ale (it's so good) and the four cheese pizza. My pizza came out so quick but was cooked to perfection. It was huge too and only $10.95. Atmosphere was fun and they had 3 big TV's showing all the great college games on that night. I loved the energy of this place and I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in town for another intensive. Highly recommended

Casual elegance is how I'd describe this restaurant. Interesting architecture and attention to detail makes it great. Wood fired pizza makes the crusty crispy them add in a variety of toppings and choices made this a good choice. Looks like they have a great bar as I've seen some pretty drinks go by. Too bad we're rushing to the airport. If I'm ever back in Lynchburg I'm dining here again!

Great service and good food! We got the bbq chicken pizza, the thai pizza, and a strawberry and goat cheese salad. Bbq chicken pizza - nothing too special but very good. Thai pizza - I had doubts about this one, but it was our favorite! On the spicy side which we loved. Strawberry and goat cheese salad - yummm :)

Great pizza with good service. I loved sitting on the outdoor patio. We were seated right away and the waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great suggestions on what to order. I thoroughly enjoyed my pizza as did everyone else in my group. Will definitely be back.

Went the other night on a date... Very nice atmosphere, Pretty packed, but not way too loud, Great service, wish I could remember her name.. Food was excellent, Great drinks, Very clean bathrooms... My date is extremely well traveled and said its the best pizza he's ever had. My dad also loved it, and so did I. Build your own pizza! And get goat cheese :) it doesn't come from cows that have been eating Monsanto's genetically modified corn.... Plus it's delicious. Great spot. 5*s

The pizza here has spoiled me for life because it is so delicious I won't want to go anywhere else! I have been here multiple times and have loved the food every time. I took some visiting guests here to have a taste of Lynchburg and they loved it as well. I have only had one bad experience here with service and that was my most recent time a few months ago. I was with a group of 6 friends and our waitress proceed to ignore our table and check on everyone else in our section multiple times. We attempted to get her attention but with no success and after about 20 minutes luckily a manager came by to check on us. We let her know the situation and she personally served us for the rest of the meal. Other than that one occasion I have enjoyed my meal every time!

We ate here twice in one week. The food is outstanding and the service is great. Some of the best brick oven pizza I've ever had. Super cool environment, creative menu, great staff. The red sauce is amazing and their crust is perfect. And you have to try the Thai pizza.

Great local beer on tap (especially their pale ale). Their salads are equally satisfying as their pizzas. They are a bit of a ways off main st., and I would have never come here if it weren't for word of mouth. I've glad I found this place!

We enjoyed our visit to Waterstone. Our wait for a table wasn't as long as quoted (always a good thing) and service was very good. The craft beers on tap were ok perhaps not my favourite micro brews ever but certainly drinkable. The pizza's hit the spot as well.

I grew up in Lynchburg and have really been impressed with all of the development downtown. Waterstone is a great addition to the cuisine and overall atmosphere of the growing downtown scene. They serve good food and craft beer in a really cool restaurant space. This was my first visit and I enjoyed what I had. The Bohemian Pilsner was delicious and paired well with the Spicy Thai and Buffalo Chicken pizzas that I shared with my party. The chilies on the Thai pizza were no joke. Explosive flavor and big heat. The sweet sauce gave it a good balance. I definitely liked it more than the Buffalo. The Buffalo pizza was good, but I would like more buffalo sauce flavor personally. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and look forward to coming back when I visit my folks. I am glad to see places like this coming to downtown Lynchburg and I hope they continue to succeed.

Great cocktail list and better environment than most in the area. My family loves the pizza and the salads don't disappoint. Fun location but be prepared to wait.

The pizza is good here but pricey as well as much of the food. Kind of a hipster place to eat for the area. I love the hummus I can eat it as a meal and be happy. The "craft" beer that they serve here is blah! They try and pimp it making it out to be so great but with so many other local craft brewers it's sub par at best. I am a home brewer and my beer taste better. I told the waitress what was wrong with each beer in the flight I ordered. She told the bartender and he got mad and came over to ask me what was wrong. I mean wow really? Like he made the beer himself. Nice place to stop in but not a local repeat for me when I lived there.

Nice restaurant on Jefferson Street. Brick oven pizza which is really good. Love the thin crust and selections of different pies. Had the house salad, which was delicious, and a pie that is called the "Sicilian" topped with sausage, cappicola, salami, pecorino romano, and fontina cheese. Very pleasing to the taste buds. Nice atmosphere and our waitress, Mary, was great at keeping our glasses filled and making sure we had everything we needed. They also have outdoor seating. We had to wait about 10 minutes but the food is worth it.

  • David C.

For Lynchburg, this place is wonderful. Decent hours with great pizza and a few TVs for watching games. I don't drink, but the homemade rootbeer was very good. Favorite pizza is the buffalo chicken. My opinion of the restaurant was damaged when the "not guilty" plea of Trevon Martin's killer, Zimmeran, was announced on a television screen and the bar erupted in cheers. That, however, is to be expected at nearly any establishment in this part of the state and not a reflection of the quality of food.
