Dos Amigos Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

They should call this FAIL-Mex. My Texan friends would slap "Tex-Mex" off the menu if they came here. For shame. I only bothered to come here because I a) needed enchiladas BAD and Taqueria Poblano is closed on Tuesdays (dear god, WHY ON A TUESDAY???!!!), and b) my backup enchilada-making supplies were depleted. It's around the corner from our place, so we were pretty psyched that there was anything remotely Mexican opening so close. We got take out, and we came like 10 mins early. Still, the food was cold when we got home a mere 2 mins later. Stone cold. How is that possible? The chicken enchiladas were only passable because I was starving. They serve better enchiladas at Don Pablos. No spice, no flavor, and stone cold. Not okay. Fine, I thought. We have a back-up cheese quesadilla (what I had really wanted was a cheese enchilada, which was not on the menu). That is hard to screw up, as it is literally cheese melted into a tortilla. Well, Ill be damned. Screwed up a quesadilla. It was rubbery and full of clearly processed cheese (I guess, in fairness, Texans are a fan of the processed foods). Oh and of course also cold. Okay, last resort. Chips and salsa. You REALLY can't screw that up! Have you ever tasted bad salsa? Me neither...until then. AYFKM???!!! That salsa was pico de gallo sitting in water and straight up chili powder. It was not edible. Who puts chili powder in salsa?? That's what actual CHILES are for. If you can't make your own salsa, then why not just BUY some, as there is literally an endless variety. Also, the chips, while fresh, were the greasiest I have ever seen. Literally couldn't eat them, as it was like sucking on hard chunks of oil. Thankfully, I didn't waste too much of my paycheck on it. That was the only thing stopping me from crying over my tasteless plate. Old Town got me again. A plague on both your houses, Old Town! Or, like, at least 10 of them!

The quality is not as good as it was when it first opened. I've been back a number of times mostly because I get cravings for Mexican (after having lived in Texas for 10 years) and this is one of the few places that meets minimum requirements. Food is acceptable, but some dishes are better than others. Salsa could be spicier and is pretty watered down. I like the chicken enchiladas with tomatillo sauce, and the mahi mahi is good. Location is good across from Braddock road metro, atmosphere is nice, but service is hit or miss.

Great service! Really good huevos rancheros according to my husband. Taco salad with grilled chicken was great. Spicy chipotle ranch dressing and high quality chicken. Best Mexican in Old Town (acknowledging there aren't a ton of Mexican restaurants). Go! You will like!

Dos Amigos is a great addition to the neighborhood. Jose the bartender is great and makes a mean margarita. Check out their happy hour specials. The food has improved immensely since they opened so make sure to try it again if you havent been in a while. The guac is always fresh and the Tortilla soup is awesome. Had the nachos last night with ground beef - excellent.

Small but nice. Very accommodating to a party of 9 as a walk-in. 4 adults and 5 kids. Owner/manager (?) was very helpful and service was excellent. Food reasonably priced and of decent quality. Will definitely be back next time we're in town.

I love this place. It is a cute, local, relaxed place. I have never been disappointed with the fod or service! Definately a good choice

Finally a Mexican restaurant that knows how to cook good food. We liked the upscale atmosphere and the staff was most accommodating to our group of 8.

I'm from California and grew up on Mexican food. I've waited for years for a good Mexican restaurant, and now here it is in my neighborhood. Every meal I have had has been excellent. The restaurant get more crowded each time I go, I guess the word is out. They even added an IPA to the beer list. This is really a neighborhood gem. Happy Hour M-F 5 to 7.

WOW!!!! Thanks Yelpers Dos Amigo was. Muy fantastico!!! We've been looking for a good Tex-Mex restaurant close by & have tried a few others and were disappointed. We decided to give Dos Amigos a try & were very happy we did! My husband is in the Army & I'm an International Flight Attendant, so we've been all over the world. Dos Amigos is one of the most delicious restaurants we've dined at! Jose was awesome! We arrived a bit after 7pm, so of course the place was packed, another good sign. We were told it would only be a 20 minute wait or we could eat at the bar. We decided the bar since my mouth was watering the moment we got out of the car. I had the biggest, baddest Margarita that was simply incredible. The chips and salsa, plus homemade guacamole, all were delicious and fresh . My husband had the black bean soup & a beef chimichanga with a Sam Adams and was perfectly satiated! I had beef flautas & chicken & beef fajitas. I have a real thing for grilled marinated meat. Everything was made fresh and with quality ingredients and lots of love! I especially loved my Fajitas since they were made with red bell peppers instead of the green ones, the red added a special zing to the dish, I ate every single last bite! Jose is wonderful, great multitasker & took care of every customer as if they were family! I had to have another margarita and even sopopias! The food, drinks & the employees are top of the line! Jose constantly checked on us and (here I'll use a local Hawaiian phrase, since that's where I'm from) he took the time to "talk story" with us. They were short 1 waitress, it didn't slow them down a bit. They jammed and the food "broke da mouth"! (Another local term!). We will be regulars from now on! Jose said Friday nights are usually very busy & Saturdays not as bad, but everyone was jamming and helping each other out. You definitely have to eat at Dos Amigos! You can park out front, in the garage behind the restaurant or across the street in the Braddock Metro lot.

Dos Amigos reminds of why I so much prefer locally owned restaurants to chains; owners are onsite and involved and show that they care. That's true here too. Since this place is only two blocks from my place, I was happy to see this location finally have a decent restaurant since the closing of the popular Italian place in the same location right across the street from the Braddock Road Metro Station. I've eaten here four times in the past month, and every time the food's been great. The first time I sat at the bar near the grill (sitting here you can both watch a game on TV and talk to one of the owners); I ordered the beef and chicken fajitas, they were perfect! Plenty of everything, piping hot and tender meat and veggies; I couldn't be happier and couldn't eat it all. The second time a week later there were three of us, ordered the beef burrito, once again it was great! Next time I had the grilled beef enchiladas, the plate looked so good I had to take a photo and share it with friends; the enchiladas tasted even better, I almost licked the plate clean! On my most recent visit I got the enchiladas again (they were so good the first time that I strayed from my plan to try different items on the menu, couldn't resist it). The only reasons I am not giving Los Amigos a five star rating are that the salsa they bring to the table is a little watery and with too much chopped onions for my preference and they are still working some of the kinks out in the order/service area. Otherwise this is a solid choice for really well prepared flavorful food. The staff is very friendly and helpful, all nice folks. I'm happy this place is right down the street, now I have another good dining choice within short walking distance. Sweet!

Great meal for my sisters birthday! Margaritas leave a little to be desired... But I still enjoyed two so they must not be too bad!

Delicious fresh chips and salsa. The whole family enjoyed the food, especially the tacos al pastor (daily special).

Great to have a new neighborhood restaurant. Delicious chunky salsa and fresh Caesar salad and chile relleno with a nice bite. I'll be back to sample more menu choices. Friendly waitress (Rosario) waited on me.

It's hard to order when they don't answer the phone. I called five times over the course of 20 minutes tonight, thinking they must have been too busy to answer, but five times?? I hope they answer next time I try so I can give an actual review.

This was a really good experience. The food was excellent and goes to the top of the charts for Mexican in Old Town. The ambience is simple but welcoming. Most everything is made from scratch in-house and they are telling the truth when they say there are no chemical preservatives or flavor enhancers - not something many Tex-Mex places around here can say. The Dos Amigos Shrimp salad was generous and fresh and the shrimp marinade delicious and shrimp grilled to perfection. The cilantro lime dressing was really good. The tortillas on the enchiladas were like home made, and the flavor of the poblano salsa verde on the chicken enchiladas was excellent. We recommend it highly. Great to have a good choice in walking distance in the neighborhood! Dos Amigos will also attract lots of people who have to travel a distance. We predict that Dos Amigos will have Muchos Amigos!

By the time the food arrived, I was feeling pretty negative about the place. Our service had been pretty slow for a down time (arrived at 1:30 on a weekday, only a third of the tables were occupied), the chips (good!) and salsa (bad!) were a mixed bag, although redeemed by ordering the guac (at 6$, pricey but worth it) to go with them instead of the salsa. The food, however eventually, did arrive. I had the taco platter. It was very good. I was sampling, so I asked them to bring my one crispy and one soft taco. Both were good. Go with your own preference. We asked for a desert menu, but were informed that they were out of everything except flan, so we passed. But this is the first week of a new restaurant, so I'm far more inclined to pay attention to the food than the service. And the food was worth the trip.

First off, the chops: I've eaten tacos all over the globe. I am not an amateur. SO, this place was pretty good. The chips were fresh, the salsa is very close to what Los Tios serves, so I'm inclined to think that one hand is washing the other. THe queso was great, but then, when is queso bad? The fajitas and the tacos were good. It's hard to beat Los Tios Fajitas though, so it gets the edge. The black beans that came with both were really good. The upshot is that it's good, but Los Tios is a little better, it's closer to me, which means I don't have to look endlessly for parking. And if anyone has tried to get a table at Los Tios on friday night knows it's a twenty minute subject. So Dos Amigos get the edge on that. The rating: Better than Taquiro, but not quite as good as Los Tios. I got good service and personal attention from the owner or the manager who wanted to assure us that they were still working out the kinks and they had not expected such a rush of business. So in Conclusion: Ummmmmmmmm. Tacos.

It's still new, but there's been a dramatic improvement in the food and service since our first visit. When it first opened, the service wasn't excellent, and some of the dishes were odd - notably, the salsa was very watery. But we had no issues on our most recent visit - attentive service, good food (taquitos, fajita, burrito), fine drinks (margarita/daiquiri). It may not be a "destination" restaurant, but certainly a good local choice for Del Ray/Rosemont/north Old Town.

  • Jol S.

It still has a few kinks to work out, but it's off to a reasonable start. The items that we've had so far - a chile relleno, a chicken burrito, and an inferno burger - have all been good. For dessert, the tres leches also was appealing. As others have noted the salsa is a bit watery - which might be less of an issue if plates were provided (but in any case, it's free). I also note that the queso, while OK, could be kicked up a notch - and again, providing plates would be nice, since it's messy. And as others have noted, the service could be a bit more attentive - it was improved upon the second visit, but still not quite crisp. Certainly worth a try if you're within walking distance (despite "Old Town" being part of the web address, it isn't really located there).

Outstanding special menu and we loved the BBQ ribs and Chorizo fajitas. The avocado and shrimp salad was delightful! Love this place!

  • Shellie D.

So, I absolutely love the tortilla chips here. The salsa... not so much because it is very watered down and doesn't have much of a kick to it. I ordered the burrito (half shrimp/half steak). It was pretty good but next time I will stick with the steak. This place serves huge portions and it's very inexpensive. Not the best Mexicanu joint but not the worse. But the food is good so I would come back! Service was very good too. During our visit, one of the customers tried to get belligerent with the owner's son, but the son handled it well and deescalated the situation. Very professional staff.

Good service, kind service, and asked if refills were wanted. Love when the service does that! Bill was rather cheap and they were just welcoming. Ordered the steak and eggs and it tasted great. Guacamole is legit. There's parking behind the place in a garage and the atmosphere is legit too. Western Mexican approved!

Delicious & love the outdoor seating, shrimp fajitas were fabulous & my husband's Carne asada was perfect, hot off the grill. Everything came out sizzling. Only problem: hard not to fill up on the yummy queso dip & salsa with fresh chips!

My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. I am giving this restaurant a 3 because our food deserved a 4 but our service was a 2. My husband had the mahi mahi tacos, which is really enjoyed. My enchiladas were yummy as well. We liked that both dishes came with rice, beans, sour cream, and guacamole. And now on to the server. He was not friendly and didn't check on us until the end of our meal. We definitely hope to make a return trip and hopefully we will have a different server!

I stopped in with some time to kill before meeting hubby and the metro and was very pleasantly surprised. The house margarita on HH was $4, a decent size and better than I expected because my bar tender was knowledable enough to cut the mix with lime juice making the taste smoother. The chips are warm but as others have mentioned the salsa is more pico de gao (sp) style. HOWEVER, if you happen to score a side of their ceviche green spicy salsa, it rivals el centros habanero sauce, which if you know me, is saying a lot. Its spicy and flavorful and amazing. The bar tender was friendly and helpful discussing with me which dishes he felt were more authentic than others, which as a food snob, was encouraging and helpful. Can't wait to try more.

The food here was amazing! I cannot vouch for everything on the menu but the meal I had was great. I had one of their specials - the lamb rib fajitas- and ordered sopaipillas for dessert. I was told that the aplle juice was 100% juice ( not squeezed in house) but whatever brand it was, it did indeed taste like it was 100%. The tortilla chips they give in the beginning is VERY oily and thin but the meal was heaven. Go and try it out especially if you have their valpack meal discount.

I wasn't sure what to expect here since reviews are mixed, but this place is definitely worth a try. The salsa for the chips and salsa tastes fresh (almost like a pico de gallo) and homemade rather than the jarred type many places use. The shredded beef enchiladas were excellent, with lots of lean beef and a strong red chile taste. They came with fresh guacamole, pico de gallo, pinto beans, and rice. Everything was fresh without being greasy or too heavy. Service was very friendly and this place is right across the street from the Braddock Rd. Metro station. I enjoyed my meal here and will be back next time I'm in the area.

After another enjoyable trip on the Metro (when your train brakes several times every 15 feet, you just pray that you won't have to deboard at the next station), i got to the bus stop to find that it had just left, so 15 minutes to the next bus. So I decided that I would try this place. It is across the street from the Braddock Road Metro station, so it is convenient to commuters. It is really a small space, with less than 20 tables. There is also a bar. Now, in the DMV, "Mexican" food seems to fall into one of three categories: Tex-Mex, Salvadoran or American Mex. This one falls into the latter. That's not to say it is bad, but don't expect "authentic." That said, the food I ordered was tasty. Chips were fresh and toasty. Salsa was more pico de gallo than sauce. I ordered the tacos al pastor plate with black beans and rice. Black beans are a nice option, in that they are normally much more flavorful, as was in this case. The pork in the tacos was soaked in too much ancho sauce for my taste. It tasted more like Chinese barbecue pork than Mexican street food that I am used to. But I can see how it would appeal the American taste. One thing that surprised me was that my tacos came with no limes, a staple with al pastor. But the meat portions in all three tacos was plentiful, and limes were brought on request. Price including iced tea and tip was $21. Its location and the quality of food makes this a probable repeat place for me.

Had been meaning to try this place out for awhile, right across the street from the Braddock Street Metro stop, so I was disappointed to see that Yelp showed them closed on a Sunday. Wrong! 11-9pm. Lots of stools at the bar and a couple TVs if you like to mix your sports with a Corona. Found the service prompt and friendly with a full menu. Having spent most of my years in Texas, I know my way around a Mexican/Tex-Mex spot, and I have the waistline to prove it, mind you ;) I'm extra skeptical when it comes to Mexican food anywhere too far from, well, Mexico, but Dos Amigos did not disappoint. To start with, the chips and salsa were great. Salsa was fresh and unique but still loyal to the Tex-Mex claim. I can only speak to the fajitas here. The meat was not too tough and had a very nice marinade. Comes with beans, rice, cheese and sour cream included to round it all off. Portions were just right and all around very authentic. The only thing I thought missed the mark, and even then only somewhat, were the margaritas. Little too much on the tart and sweet, and a little too light on the tequila. Do you really wanna drink 3-4 of these things to get your buzz on? No. But unfortunately unleaded margaritas are more the norm than not in most places, so you might not find this to be a problem. So as they say, I'll be baaaaack...

This is the place you frequent if you live nearby, or you walk past it on the way home from work. This is not the place you choose if you are researching on yelp prior to a date. The food was good, the service was good, but ... eh ... there are just better choices.

Great place! The food was out of this world. The service was great it was my first time going and I will be back for sure. My new spot and the price was really cheap in my eyes! Must try!!!

I just love this tiny Mexican restaurant, steps away from Braddock Road metro. The service is always wonderful, the food is great, and I can watch the current game inside or enjoy my meal on the patio. I wish there were more beers on tap, but for the location and price, I honestly can't ask for more.

I met up with a friend here recently. I think it is ok, not mind-blowing, but I would eat it again when in the mood for paint-by-numbers Tex Mex or something near Braddock Road. It is a good location to meet up because it is convenient to the metro and also not too hard to find parking near by. I got a chicken chimichanga which was decent though I thought that the chicken was a little "pink" in places. When smothered in the sauces, it was pretty good. I did like the guacamole and sour cream. I did not try the salsa that came with the chips. I would say that it looked a little watery and the margaritas that I saw did too. My friend got an order of steak nachos and seemed happy enough. I think that's just it, it's good enough but neither of us were raving about the food either. I will agree with whoever said that the portions are filling but won't stuff you. The service was fine. The atmosphere was loud but lively and jovial. I think 3 stars is accurate. It's not a bad place and I'd eat there again. I think it's a good place to meet up and catch up with friends because you can talk loudly like everyone else. Think fun instead of romance. Also, you won't be too distracted by the food in either a positive or negative way.

I would give it 0 if I could. 3 black women, please believe we had HORRIBLE SERVICE. Waited 15 minutes for drinks, 30 for food which came in batches, and then the 30 minute hunt to pay our check no apology at lousy service. Everyone White Got Served AND Checked on...But Not us. I asked why..." cue th e crickets" TIP.... $0. Dear Dos Amigos.... slavery ended and black people work and pay bills and eat at the same place as everyone else. Welcome to 2014!!!!

I live in the building next door and tried to explore other options in the area. So far Dos Amigos has been the best choice. I have eaten their food many times and have never been disappointed. On the contrary, the Bastille restaurant, two blocks away, that serves French food that I usually truly enjoy has been a huge disappointment two times I went there. I truly hope that Dos Amigos will continue to be a food and service jewel in the neighborhood.

My husband and I came here for an early dinner. We were seated right way by the window, which was quite nice. Our server was actually one of the co-owners, Jose. He was so unbelievably sweet and so nice! He told us that the restaurant is co-owned with his father; it has been in establishment for about a year and a half now! A Tex-Mex restaurant, I was excited to check their menu out. I had the Beef Chimichanga under their 'Mexican Dishes' - this came with black beans, sour cream, guacamole, their signature pico de gallo, a flour tortilla filled with cheese and the diced beef, and fried. I really liked the sour cream as it was peppery and nice and thick and creamy. The chimichanga itself was nice and cheesy, and great with the guacamole and the sour cream. The side of the rice and the pinto beans were okay. My husband had the Grilled Beef Fajitas - it came with sliced onions, peppers, shredded pepper jack and cheddar cheese, guacamole, sour cream, shredded lettuce, rice, black beans, pico de gallo, and 3 flour tortillas. The meat itself was juicy and had a nice sizzling grilled taste - the other ingredients really complemented it well with a dash of Cholula hot sauce - a very simple dish, but it was delicious - my husband was a fan! The portions were really perfect, as I thought there wouldn't be enough food, but we were left stuffed! I am interested in trying out their Dos Amigos Wings, Camaraones Rancheros, Carne Asada, and Chiles Rellenos next time. The service was so wonderful and this restaurant is very cute and cozy, right across from the Braddock Metro. It was a solid meal, and I really hope this place does well! :D +Grilled Beef Fajitas :D +ask for Jose :D

Went here on a whim, but was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty crowded on a Friday night, so we waited about 10 minutes for a table to open up. Our server was great, very attentive and friendly. Husband and I both got fajitas, which were good. They came with guac, beans, rice, pico, cheese and sour cream. The food people around us ordered looked really good too. I had a frozen margarita that was just ok. I'd prob skip it next time. We will likely go back. Doesn't hurt that it's right on the metro if you're looking to avoid driving for the night.

My girlfriend and I visited Dos Amigos on a cold, rainy Sunday. The hours posted on Yelp seem to say that they're closed on Sundays, but they are actually open. And they might want to do a better job of advertising that - I'm not sure if it was just the weather, but the place was pretty empty just after noon. We got our pick of table and snacked on the complimentary chips and salsa while reading over the menu. The chips were kind of fragile, but the salsa was pretty good. They have a brunch menu, which I took advantage of by ordering an omelette with chorizo, spinach, onion and cheese. Although it wasn't in the description, it also came with rice and beans, guacamole and sour cream, which was nice. The omelette was tasty and I particularly liked the great seasoning on the chorizo. The textures were a little lacking though - the omelette was swimming in sauce and the black beans were kind of runny, which I wasn't a huge fan of. I tasted some beef enchilada and chicken taco too, both of which were fairly good. Overall, the food was just so-so, though the portions were generous. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but if you happen to be in the area and want some decent Mexican food Dos Amigos wouldn't be a terrible choice.

  • Jim M.

Solid! I think they make their own tortilla chips which come out warm and crispy. Beef and cheese enchiladas were both very good, as well as the beef taco. Chile Relleno wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was far from bad too. Bartender made a fantastic Bloody Mary, which I complimented and he seemed genuinely pleased to hear. Rice and beans were better than most. Guacamole was large enough for two, but we had to spice it up with salt, pepper, and hot sauce which really woke it up. If there's a downside, it was finding the place. I admittedly never go in this area and had a tough time finding it. The GPS says "You have arrived", and all I could see was a 7-11 :-) Once you do find it, there is parking in a garage behind it but not a lot of spaces. Still, I enjoyed it and would return if in the area.

Great food. Came with a friend during the dinnervhour on a Wednesday and was served pretty fast. My dinner was very delicious ,- I had the Camarones Rancheros with Spanish rice, vegetables , and pinto beans. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Ask for Fredo when you go - he was prompt, polite, and professional. We will be back. No racial issues as I read past reviewers experienced. Just the opposite.

A fabulous neighborhood Mexican restaurant. The bartender, Jose is super friendly and made our dinner at the bar just a fun and enjoyable time. We stumbled in on a Friday night with the Amazon Local deal and the place was totally slammed. I couldn't believe how many people came in after we arrived...one after another for such a nondescript restaurant tucked away across the Braddock train station. We started off with a Dos Equis and margarita, since it was happy hour. The margaritas were excellent by the way. Very smooth, but not overly sweet. I couldn't tell what tequila they used, but it tasted like a higher end tequila than most restaurants would serve during happy hour. It was delicious. To top it off, I couldn't believe the draft beers were only $3.00 during happy hour. Now that's more like it! For dinner we started off with the chicken quesadillas, which were very good. A large portion, with tender chicken, and lots of cheese. This dish could definite serve as an entree for some. We shared the Dos Amigos fajitas (steak, chicken and shrimp), which were superb. The kitchen is open to the dining area, and we caught a waft of the steak cooking on the grill, which just whetted my appetite for savory steak fajitas. The fajitas exceeded expectations with a huge portion of chicken and steak and three large shrimps. The onions and peppers were fried perfectly and the dish came out sizzling, which is EXACTLY the way fajitas should be served. Throw some onto a soft flour tortilla with some guac and its simply delicious!! Dos Amigos far exceeded my expectations for a small Mexican restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. Great service, reasonable prices, and amazing food. Highly recommended for some great Mexican food and a margarita!

This restaurant is right in our neighborhood. Since every other restaurant to occupy that particular spot has turned out to be horrible, we had very low expectations. I am happy to say our expectations were entirely wrong. Lately we practically live here. Obviously it is convenient, but the service is warm and wonderful, the food is delicious with enough options to eat regular American fare if you're not in the mood for Mexican food, there is always a good game on the tv over the bar, and the owner personally checks on every table. The quacamole is outstanding and I haven't had a bad entree. They are all good. As part of the neighborhood we can also see that owner continues to upgrade as the restaurant becomes more well known. We love that. I would say in the last two weeks alone, we've eaten here around 10 times. We've noticed new, better waiters and waitresses, upgraded decor, tables outside, and better artwork just recently. Overall a fantastic neighborhood joint.

I live near Dos Amigos, and love the convenience, service and food here. While I usually eat here on the later side, because of the convenience, recently it has become my "go-to" Mexican restaurant of choice because of the food.

We love Dos Amigos!!!! The salsa and chips are the best in the area. They've got a good selection of tequilas and will customize your margarita even if you're ordering off the menu. Anything with seafood is outstanding - the shrimp dishes especially. Request the black beans instead of pintos - the pintos are fine, but the black beans are marvelous. They make everything, or nearly everything, from scratch - and the black beans are long-simmered with the chef's semi-secret approach. The daily specials are just that, not a list of specials that is basically repeated over and over; pretty much anything on the nightly specials list is a good bet. If you're not sure, ask Jose behind the bar to suggest one of his favorites. It's great for girlfriends to do a casual dinner together; grabbing a drink after arriving at Braddock Metro; a midweek date night; and while they're very very welcoming to kids, Dos Amigos never gets close to that ear-shattering din that Los Tios sometimes achieves. We're so lucky to have such a great Tex Mex spot in the neighborhood.

Great place and great food! I wish it was bigger because on weekends there is a wait but it's definitely worth it. I live walking distance to the restaurant and is ideal for anyone who lives in the area. Try their margaritas!

I'm so unbelievably confused as to why anyone would say his place has good food. What? I have a solid education in tex-mex from living in Austin, and I can tell you that this place is offensive to tex mex. First of all, the interior is depressing. It's only decor is a few piñatas and sombreros they found in a party aisle somewhere. Their food is terribly bland and has virtually no flavor. Their salsa left me in a bad mood for the rest of the day. If you've never had tex mex, maybe this place is fine. Otherwise, stay away.

I'm from the southwest and I grew up on Mexican food, so I'm a little bit picky when it comes to eating it away from home. This place definitely has food on par with all of the best Mexican restaurants that I've been to back home. Jose was very friendly and accommodating as well.

Dos Amigos is the latest Salvadorian inspired restaurant in Alexandria. The owners are calling it Tex-Mex, and the abundance of chipotle flavored burgers and chicken wings makes that seem like an accurate description. Like nearly all new restaurants, the service here isn't quite right yet. On opening night that's to be expected, and I think a lot of the hang ups can be easily corrected -- like having someone take names of the people waiting or directing those waiting for tables to a set location so that a family of four doesn't monopolize half of the bar *with their 5 and 7 year old daughters* when people could actually sit there and order. Having a list of names will alleviate cutting and stop diners from bum-rushing empty tables and bar stools. The one thing that is on point is the bartender, Jose. He was attentive, friendly and efficient in his drink preparations. Since the entrance to the restaurant is right beside the bar, he was my first point of contact with any of the staff and, even though it was clearly busy this evening, his smile remained through the course of my meal. The margaritas, at $7 each, were the most popular beverage, but there is also a list of five beers on tap and a full service bar. Jose said they expect to introduce happy hour specials in about a month. The food was quite average. The chips and salsa were ordinary. The salsa consisted of large chunks of onion, jalapeño and cilantro in a tomato based liquid. The chips were chips. The nachos were topped with black beans, cheese (the menu said pepper jack but looked like cheddar), their "signature" pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and pickled jalapeño slices. The chips are pretty dense so the overall taste is quite heavy. This isn't the kind of nachos with wafer thin chips and a creamy white cheese sauce. Sad face. The chicken enchiladas came with a green tomatillo sauce, pinto beans, Mexican style rice with peas and a pile of veggie type stuff (lettuce, pico, guac). Dos Amigos isn't anything too special, but it's got neighborhood charm in the Braddock area of Old Town, where there are few other choices, so it will garner a loyal following. The prices are very reasonable (and significantly cheaper than anything you'll find down on King Street), the food is ok, and the bartender is already getting to know those of us that live in the area, so overall it is a welcoming place in a convenient location...it just won't hold much appeal for those outside of the immediate area.

Fantastic fajitas and specials. Friendly and fun staff. if you want spicy ask for green salsa. Shrimp, carnitas, steak and chicken all well prepared. A little pricey but worth it. Chips light and crispy red salsa is mild.

The food and drink more than makes up for what he ambiance lacks. You usual Mexican food place won't taste the same afterward.

Not just the best Mexican food in Old Town, but one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I could eat here every day. We always sit at the bar, grab a drink, and chat with Jose while we eat. The margaritas are delicious and strong - I can only have one if I want to walk straight afterward. I'm a pescetarian, so I alternate between the salads without meat, cheese enchiladas, the bean burrito, and fish tacos: all delicious. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. Insider tip: If you like a kick, ask Jose for a side of his green sauce. It's excellent swirled into your queso or on any meal.

I live right by the place and so have visited a handful of times. The food is fine. It's not excellent, and it's not bad. For DC-area Mexican, you can do a lot worse. I don't think their guacamole is truly handmade, for example, but I also don't think they are serving a bunch of reheated Sysco food. The service is hit or miss, leaning a little to the hit side. Generally, the service is friendly and fairly quick. Sometimes, though, it seems like the employees get a little too preoccupied with their personal conversations with each other. I've ended up sort of just sitting there waiting a few times while the server or bartender just blathered on to someone else. I would give the place 3 stars but I bumped them down for climate control issues. It always seems to be WAY too hot in there, like the AC doesn't work properly. One time I actually got up and walked outside to wait for my boyfriend to finish his meal because I was starting to feel very uncomfortable in the heat inside. It was over 85 degrees outside at this time, and I still felt cooler outside. I no longer eat there unless it is cold outside.

Liked this place. Very small with limited seating. The food was good, as were the margaritas. The staff was friendly and helpful, in spite of the cramped quarters. We went on a busy Friday night. Recommend avoiding busy hours.

The food is great and I'll be coming back for take out. The service dropped my rating down. I was eating alone after work one day. I ignored a few flirty comments from my waiter (I was and am wearing my engagement and wedding rings). During my meal I spilled my drink. There was no one to be found, so I jumped from my seat to avoid getting soda on my clothes and found my waiter at the bar. I told him I spilled my drink and asked for a towel. He told me, nicely, to sit down. I went back to my table and waited (my plate and silverware were drenched by now). He came back with a towel and I tried to take it to clean up my mess. He took my hand and said, "Shh... You have beautiful eyes." I'm not sure what face I made, I'm sure it was an uncomfortable one, & took my hand back. I mopped up the table while the waiter went to get a mop bucket. I apologized and he tried to "soothe" me again, at which point I asked for the check. My waiter led me by the hand to the register, by which point I broke my hand free. He apologized and said that's how he acts with his girl friends. Creepy. I paid (and tipped-- I'm not a monster) and left. If there is going to be another visit in my future I think I'll get take out.

Stopped by for a late Sunday lunch after attending church nearby. We were encouraged by the great reviews of the food and service but were disappointed with the experience overall. Food was nothing memorable - I'm not sure I believe the guac is housemade - and the service also was just OK, despite being the only table in the restaurant for the majority of our visit. I had the Combination #3 (chicken enchilada and beef taco) and my friend had tacos al carbon with steak. One thing that was very off-putting is that the bathroom is next to the bar, and when you exit, you're looking directly into the open kitchen - and the kitchen is looking back at you. Maybe if it is busier it is less of an odd feeling, but it was awkward and kind of gross to think the bathroom is that close to an open kitchen service. I'm sure this is a great place to have nearby if you live in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't make a special trip to visit.

After browsing through their photos on their website and yelp reviews I was convinced I'd made a good decision in purchasing a rather expensive salad for takeout lunch (Salmon Dos Amigos Salad for about $14!) Boy was I wrong. The salmon came looking soo much less than stellar I was quite upset at just the appearance. It looked nothing like the picture, the lettuce was purely iceberg, it just didn't have all the colors I saw in the picture and got excited about. The taste was okay. The Salmon was a bit overcooked and the sauce that came with it (Avocado dressing) smelled sour and was not appealing at all. I made due with just the salmon, lettuce and avocado slices. The chips and salsa were what I ended up filling up on, even though the salsa was VERY watery. My co-workers said they enjoyed their meals. Maybe I should have gotten what they had... but now my impression is just as sour as that dressing :( They would have gotten 1 star from me had it not been for my co-workers saying theirs was pretty good....

Delicious! I'm from California, so I'm a self-proclaimed Mexican food snob. This place had delicious Mexican food, the free chips and salsa was authentic and didn't taste boxed/bagged. Service was decent, too, although the waitress seemed to be having a tough night. I'd go here again :)

The 4 star average at Dos Amigos, to me, is a testament to the fact that the Braddock Road Metro neighborhood desperately needs more restaurants. I've been here a couple of times in a pinch and the food is really just OK. The inside is pretty dingy. Staff always seems overwhelmed, even when the restaurant isn't crowded. If you want good food and a good dining experience, take the longer walk to King St or Del Ray.

I returned at the request of others who said my review was misguided and was underwhelmed again. Had a beef chimi that was just ok. I'm not sure what the spice they use on the rice and beans are but it is aggressive and off putting all at the same time. Add in a some what attentive server and you have a repeat of my last experience. Maybe it's just me, it's always crowded. Or maybe it's the only place open near the Braddock road metro apart from the 7 Eleven? I'll probably go there and get a chicken diablo sandwich and a slurpee.

Don't be fooled by the building's exterior/ slightly 80s color scheme. We love this place! Delicious food, very reasonable prices, and run by incredibly nice folks. I recommend starting with the platanos fritos.

Good happy hour specials if you like beer. Margaritas are a good price during happy hour, but they didn't taste like they had a drop of tequila in them. Steak fajitas are very good. Service is very hit or miss. Guacamole is very tasty.

Went twice more since my original review. Moving up to 4.5 stars. This was, hands down, the best chicken fajitas I've had in the area. They do an awesome job at it, and I will be going more often now for that alone!

Great atmosphere. Great people. In addition to traditional Mexican fare they have the best lamb chops in Old Town when they are on the menu, and at a great value. Give them a try you will not be disappointed.

Went to Dos amigos on Friday night with my boyfriend, we were seated immediately and had an amazing waitress named Rhonda. Service was phenomenal all the food was delicious especially the ceviche which apparently they only make on Friday nights -so I strongly suggest that you go in for the ceviche. The steak and shrimp fajitas were great chicken was a little bit lacking their queso dip was awesome and they have a delicious selection of margaritas. The place is small we got there little after seven and by the time we left there was practically a line out the door. Definitely suggest making this an early dinner or happy hour venue.

Tequila shots between the metro and my house??? SIGN ME UP!! Yum!! This place is close to my house and I had a really good experience here! Went on a Wednesday night, had a peach margarita (yummmmmy) a taco salad- yum yum yum, and the boyfriend also enjoy his food. The decor is so bright and inviting, they did a lot of good work of updating the decor and utilizing the space. I liked the chips and salsa which were fresh and delish!! Reasonably priced, friendly service, great decor, great location. Great family owned place, I'll definitely be back!!

I've been going to this place pretty much on a daily basis since I moved here from Texas. It's very convenient to my work place next to the Braddock Metro. Being from Texas, I have a pretty good hold on what good Mexican food is. The quality of the ingredients and how the food is prepared is what makes it Great! The service is Always Awesome. Super nice people that work there and you get the feel that they actually appreciate the business. That's pretty rare these days. Their prices are a little high but considering the location, I'm sure the rent isn't cheap either. All in all, it's a Fantastic place to eat Mexican food.

Delicious food, I came here yesterday and had the combo with a taco and enchilada with an order of plantains and a beer the food was great it came out quickly, the chips and salsa alone were Amazing and my server Nick was pretty cool. The bill came up to $28 and I will definitely be back. Give this place some business people, you will not be disappointed

Overall: Basic, affordable Mexican food in a casual atmosphere. Food: Nothing is really outside the box incredible -- but that also wasn't what I was looking for at this venture. I wanted cheap, decent Mexican food and Dos Amigos delivered. The chips/salsa are both good, the salsa actually tastes pretty fresh! No jarred stuff here. My husband wasn't a fan of the queso dip, but it did the trick for me. I ordered the beef fajitas and was pretty pleased. The steak was tender and veggies cooked well. My husband ordered the burrito and, to me, it looked a little boring but he seemed to be ok with it. Drinks: My quest for the perfect margarita continues. To be honest, these were the closest I've gotten to a decent margarita in DC. Nice tequila flavor, not too much mix - it'll do! There is a short beer list if that's more your style. Service/Atmosphere: Our server wasn't the best. She seemed a little annoyed in general but maybe she was having an off night? (let's be honest, we've all been there.) Our food came out quickly so that's all that matters. The atmosphere isn't great, but it was clean and comfortable so no problems there!

The owners and staff at Dos Amigos couldn't be more friendly. I come here fairly regularly and can say most of the food is great. I'm a huge fan of their enchiladas and tacos, and I've never had a bad batch of their chips, salsa, and guacamole. A few of the dishes I've tried were fine, but not exceptional, such as the taco salad and queso. In a place like DC where there's very little in the way of good Mexican food, this place fills a significant void.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the old town and del ray area. What it lacks in ambiance, it more than makes it up in reasonable prices, tasty food, friendly staff, and a great location.

This restaurant is close to Braddock Metro, making it a convenient place to grab a bite for the North Old Town residents. I've only been here once. The food was just fine, not great but not bad either. The waiter mixed up my husband's order (chicken instead of beef) and was very apologetic. My husband wasn't too picky and didn't send it back. Despite the mix-up, we were happy with the place and liked the fact that staff seemed very nice and friendly. We plan on going back.

It was Tuesday, Taqueria Poblano in Del Ray (our go-to) was closed, so my wife and I figured we'd give this place a try. Service was friendly and quick while sitting outside. The pork tacos were very good, and the fajitas were tasty as well. We definitely plan on visiting this place again.

New place only open 4 month... all TEX little Mex run by Latinos! While the food was good there is lots of room for improvement. Remember only open 4 month! Met one of the "Dos Amigos" and he was very eager to get feedback for improvements. It would be interesting to eat here in like 6 month to see this place develop more and improvements are made. P.S. Was there on Wednesday night.. when I got there I was the only one there... when I left the place was packed!!

OK, I've visited twice, and I'm reasonably satisfied. As far as service is concerned, the restaurant has been open for only a week, and it takes some time for a new place to find its rhythm. I've noticed improvement in just a few days. It's a small dining room, and both times they've been filled to capacity. Sitting at the bar, you have a ringside view of the kitchen, which buzzed with activity, though still not quite a well oiled machine. To the food: it's good. It's in the same league as Los Tios, with similar dishes and preparations. I've tried the the Tacos and enchiladas, and satisfied with each. I'll agree with others regarding the salsa...it tastes good, but it's too watery. I liked the chips- crispy and freshly cooked. Margaritas were good too and quick refills of sodas. All in all, I liked DA. I wouldn't consider it a destination Mexican restaurant, but a great neighborhood joint that's steps away from the Braddock Road Metro station.

Just tried out this new neighborhood restaurant on a Wednesday night. Like the other reviews, it has only been open for a month or so, so the service is a bit slow. However, I really enjoyed the food. The salsa in my opinion is very full flavored although chunky - but - definitely satisfies, as do the chips which are served warm, thin, and crunchy. As for our meals, I ordered the chicken fajitas (a staple) and was surprised by the freshness and juicyness of the chicken as well as the nicely prepared vegetables. My husband had the chimichanga and liked all of the flavors. I'm very excited to have a decent, friendly, and good-tasting restaurant within walking distance. For those of us in the Braddock metro area, there's not a lot happening, so I'm sure this will become one of our regular spots for some good tasting usual food. Is it the best tex mex/Mexican food I've ever had? No, but the prices aren't bad, the food is tasty, and the staff is very friendly. Overall, thankful to have this place so close and plan on going back. Check it out.

Oh Dos Amigos, I desperately, desperately wanted to love you. I was crushing on the idea of a walkable Mexican wonderland, where I could happily procure south of the border delicacies, load up on margs, stumble home, possibly vomiting on the GW middle school football field as I returned to my quasi-suburban homestead, heels in hand. Alas, like the loser-boyfriend I never had, you failed to live up to expectations. You did not satisfy me. If my meal were a randy tryst, following our brief encounter, I would have been forced to return home disappointed and roll my own burrito. Sure, you eagerly tried to please. The waitress, while a bit slow, was very kind. But you just couldn't find the right rhythm. I thought I could look past the salsa - thin, watery with chunks of onion and what might have been a tomato in a past life. The spice, naturally, was absent. Nothing remotely resembling a jalapeno had been anywhere near this bowl. The chips, they were so close to being good, but were just a tiny bit off. A bit too thick, clutching to each other like kittens in a box in a rain storm, they just were sad. My enchiladas were ok. Not warm, not cold, but in that sad grey temperature you typically find food that has been sitting out all night. The cheese was yellow. To me, this matters and disappoints. The guac was good, but for the price should have included gold sprinkles, or more than a thimble full. My son did like the sour cream, so there's that. I really wanted this to work, D.A., but I don't think it can be. Back to Taq. Pob. for me, at least there is Uber to get me home.

The establishment has changed ownership since it first opened up. I can only attest to my experience with the current ownership. I've been to quite a few places, including chains, and haven't had great experiences at many of them. This is a family owned local restaurant and I wasn't expecting much from it. I was pleasantly surprised as the food here is amazing and well worth it. They seem to be using fresh ingredients and the chips and salsa are to die for. I keep craving them until the next time I'm there. I've tried almost everything on the menu and haven't been disappointing yet. They have specials which are also good and have a happy hour with a nice beer selection. The place is always packed when I go there and I wish them the best and that it stays that way. As for me, I'll continue going to one of the better restaurants in the area.

Been here three times now - very solid mexican place in Alexandria. Normally, for the food at a place like this, I would give four stars, but there are some other reasons why this one deserves special accolades. By category, my review goes like this: Food: 5 star Service: 5 star Decor and atmosphere: 3 Star Price: 5 Star Basically, this is your standard affordable mexican joint. The servings are very generous for the price, which is very affordable. All the standards like enchiladas, chimichangas, and tacos are around $11-12, with as usual, fajitas or special entrees a little more. All of the staff is extremely freindly, capable and very attentive. The food comes up fast - I have yet to wait more than 5 minutes or so from when we ordered to get our food delivered. The ingredients are fresh (don't miss the guac!) and the beer list is solid. Ricardo the owner is very friendly and will often stop for a chat with the customers to make sure the experience is just right. The one weak point is on the decor, which is a bit bland, but far from offensive. This is the least important area in my book, and is far secondary to quality of food and service. Still, the place is extremely clean and comfortable, and they make you feel welcome from the moment you step inside the door. So, why five stars? There are two extra points here - one is location. It's about 200 feet from the entrance from entrance of Braddock Road Metro station. It's the perfect place for a cheap filling meal after a hard day of work without having to trek out again. It's nestled right on the line between Del Ray and Old town, so it's easy for everyone to get to and if you're driving it's only a few blocks from the GW Parkway and Route 1. Two, is that this place is very civilized. Del Ray has become a jungle of malajusted toddlers and overindulgent parents in recent years, and so far, I have yet to be forced to endure the shrieking of somebody else's children. I know this sounds trivial, but anyone who has spent time at Los Tios just down the street from here will instantly appreciate this quality. That's not to say it's not kid friendly - it just equally adult friendly (unlike 80% of Del Ray these days).

Finally decided to try Dos Amigos tonight after driving by it 1000 times. We had low expectations but ended up really enjoying our dinners. It was a very slow night so we decided to sit at the bar. Sean the bartender suggested his "signature" margarita which was really good and well-priced at $8. My husband had a pork taco special and ate every single bite of it. I went with the steak and chicken fajitas and have enough left over for a great lunch tomorrow. Total bill with tax for 2 entrees and 2 margaritas was $50. We will definitely be back to Dos Amigos soon!

We used a living social deal here this weekend and were pleasantly surprised. I've found that when you use one of these deals, the restaurants often give poor service because you are spending less money. Not the case here. We told them up front we had a living social deal, and everyone was welcoming. We sat at the bar. I noticed that, as each couple left, the bartender thanked them on the way out. The food was very tasty. Everything was seasoned and prepared well -- not greasy like many Mexican restaurants (Los Tios!). They make all their marinades, sauces, etc. in house. The salsa is amazing. I kind of wanted to drink it out of the bowl. They also make a mango margarita with real mango, no sugary syrup. You will taste the difference, I promise.

Great to have this new Tex-Mex addition to the restaurants in Old Town. Salsa was very tasty, my chicken enchiladas were excellent, and my wife loved her fish tacos. Service is friendly and attentive. We're looking forward to sampling their variety of margaritas when it warms up some.

It is a new restaurant near Bradock Metro. When we got there around 8 PM on Saturday night, it was packed. I had a mongo margarita. I did not taste of mango. It was the worst margarita that I had. Chips and salsa were okay but chips were too oily. I had Carne Asada. It was good. The steak was nicely seasoned. My husband had Chicken Fajitas. It was sizzling. I enjoyed it as well. The service was still slow. I think they still need time to get used to it. I will come back here again. Overall, the food was not bad at all.

The steak enchilada is the best I've had, and the salsa is unique and delicious. My wife got the nachos, which weren't the normal pile of nachos I expected; I would have been disappointed by their lack of volume but she swears they were the best nachos she's had. Our server Rhonda was perfect.

Dos Amigos invited our small neighborhood to a pre-opening night where we were able to try numerous dishes. Who can pass up FREE FOOD?! We took our seats, ordered beer and the waitress gave us some chips and salsa to start. I was very impressed with the organization of the staff and kitchen crew considering new restaurants often stumble a few times before working out the kinks. We really enjoyed our sampling dinner and drinks - and surprisingly kept us full all night. Some of the things we tried were hard-shelled steak tacos, steak quesadilla, chicken wings, enchiladas and grilled t-bone steak. Everything was fresh, light and delicious. I especially liked the grilled steak and look forward to ordering it on my next trip - bite size samples were not enough! We were also surprised that the hard-shelled taco shell didn't break after one, two... or three bites. Kudos on the guacamole Dos Amigos; somehow they knew I love corn in my guac. I'm so glad to find a tex-mex restaurant that doesn't smother their food in cheese and beans. If you're not in the mood for grilled or Mexican food, they also have burgers, sandwiches and salads on their menu. VERY excited to have this new local spot.
