Old fashioned type place. We were pretty hungry so it was good. Lots of sides too. There is a dining room in the back with hillbilly music playing. Wtf? It's Texas!

Worst. Barbecue. Ever. Wow, I did not expect to be writing those words, especially given the other positive reviews here. But passing through Vidor with a colleague on our way from Orange to Austin, we found Wright's on Yelp, read the reviews and decided that it sounded good. Yes, it's a little hole-in-the-wall kind of barbecue place, but I grew up in Texas, this is what I'm used to. I looked at the menu briefly as I came in the door, and made a snap decision to have a brisket plate. After all, the brisket is pretty much the measure of a man's barbecue, right? Although they had a variety of sides available, I chose potato salad and beans as a safe accompaniment to the brisket. My coworker ordered the barbecued chicken. We found our way back into the dining room through a little hallway at the end of the serving counter, and sat down amidst a room full of automotive photographs, models, and memorabilia - it's clear the owner was an old car buff. Everything went all sideways though when I took the first bite of brisket. OMG. Yuk. Roast beef, with brown gravy. I swear, no barbecue flavor at all, and that isn't barbecue sauce. Their sauce was literally like canned beef gravy from the supermarket. And I don't think they even had a smoker, I believe the brisket was baked in the oven. That was the most disconcerting brisket plate I've ever eaten. The potato salad was a little sweet like I like it, but it had kind of a slimy texture and I was afraid it was spoiled so I didn't eat it. The beans were decent, but they should have been, I think they were right out of a can. As we left the restaurant, my coworker said to me "I'm just glad that wasn't MY money." (We were using our employer's per diem). I said "That's exactly what I thought too."
