The Advantage of living downtown is the fact that you are close to a lot of cool spots including Taco Joint. Its located in East Dallas and the area is not pleasant on the eyes but i still have my Dry Cleaner there, There's an Aldi's there, a Full service Starbucks and a place to purchase an international Calling card besides lots of hidden treasure type restaurants. When i first heard of Taco Joint, I thought it was going to be one of those hidden treasures but when i got there i found out it was one of the places designed to modify a hidden treasure. I like the fact that its probably a place i can bring friends to sit down and eat breakfast tacos as opposed to a taco stand but it definitely lacks the flair and flavor of a taco stand. I believe this place gets a lot of 5 star reviews because you dont expect to see a Taco type Cafetaria run by a non hispanic so the wow factor comes in. I looked at the menu and noticed right away that the prices were in competition with Chipotle and not a Taco Stand and the Tacos and Migas were too safe. I dont want Gourmet Taco on a weekend morning. I prefer my greasy tacos with pork or chorizo and loaded for under 5 bucks and keep it moving. Considering what part of town it is i must say it is like a Green Safe Zone and probably the only place in East Dallas where the hispanics are a minority so a lot of Lakewood residents can call it their second home without any fear but for me i stick to the food and could care less about ambience. I might swing by for lunch to get a full assessment but for now i will still remain loyal to my Gas Station Taco stands in da hood.

I've been here twice so far and think it's pretty good. The service at the counter is great. The tacos are good. Setting is good. Is it the best taco place in Dallas? Nope. I think maybe I was hoping for a little more. I do find it odd that this place is so packed, when there are so many authentic taco/Mexican places in the neighborhood. I'm looking forward to trying the breakfast out.

wow Wow WOW After hearing how good this place was i went for the first time just a few moments ago. And all i have to say is Oak Cliff is not the only area of town with new and innovative places to eat!! The place was packed for lunch so be ready for a crowd. I had a beef burrito and it was very good. They have three great salsas to go with your food... tomatillo, Jalapeno Ranch, and Red Tomato --- all three are mild to medium hot and very good. I can't wait to go back for Breakfast! Just in case my review has given the wrong impression... the name is right it is a joint --- it is clean and nice filled with mostly professionals --- but it is not a sit down fine Mexican food restaurant --- So if your in East Dallas near Baylor Hospital --- you have to go here.

My husband and I went here when we were in search of a great breakfast burrito. We had several great spots in LA, and this place was a letdown. The line took forever and the food was not at all what we hoped for. If you're expecting a Mexican breakfast burrito, this is not it! They should focus on making more flavorful food, rather than just striving for having the largest burrito.

I've heard a lot of former Austinites complain about a lack of good taco stands in Dallas. I've certainly never been to one before, so I guess that confirms their claim -- but I've also never really fancied myself a taco hunter. I'll let you make your own dirty joke here. I don't know if I got worn down by all you taco lovers out there who keep Yelping left and right about your favorite taco stands, or if just suddenly saw the delicious taco light, but I decided that today was going to be the first day I was going to seek out and try a taco from a restaurant that only made tacos. So I pulled out my awesome Yelp app on my iphone (which I freakin' love... maybe too much) and hit that lovely "nearby" button. The Taco Joint was right at the sweet spot of highly rated and close by, so I ventured there with my trusty co-worker side kick, The Zaffles (Yelp's Jason Z.). He has the palette of a 5 year old which makes him both surprisingly easy and at times frustratingly impossible to please. In a way, to have your food sampled and either accepted or rejected by him both reveals everything and yet... proves nothing about the tastiness of your restaurant. In fact, forget I mentioned him. Where was I? Oh yes, so we kicked in the door to The Taco Joint and were immediately relieved to find that the interior was much nicer than the outside -- I mean, based on the intersection (Peak and Gaston), I figured it was a 50/50 shot that I was gonna find meth heads and tranny hookers playing pool when I opened the doors. Fortunately, they were just eating tacos. Just kidding, there was only like one meth head. I got the brisket tacos because you guys won't shutup about them, and you were right -- they rock. They were juicy and flavorful and complimented well by the avocado slices that came with them. I also got some jalapeños and ranch because of another recommendation from Yelp. They came with rice and beans and all for under 8 bucks! The Zaffles got the enchiladas (dammit, dude, we came to a taco stand, not an enchilada stand). He made his usual complaint about "beans always coming with Mexican food," but I didn't totally karate chop his ass into a coma right then and there because he is from a small town in Pennsylvania and doesn't know any better. "OK, so other than the beans, are the enchiladas good?" "Yeah, dude." SCOOOOREEEEE for The Taco Joint. We agreed that we could come back and buy tacos for our company for breakfast one of these mornings. I look forward to updating my review with the breakfast report. If they can satisfy me and my trusty side kick "por la mañana" as they say, then we will have a 5 star review.

I've been to this location and the new one in Lakewood. Solid, good, quick TexMex. I've had the veggie burrito and the veggie tacos. A great lunch spot, this location gets very busy...beware. Arrive early or expect a line. Chips are good, salsa is average.

Austin is full of awesome breakfast taco places...and I have missed them. This place lives up to Austin standards. I've been twice this week and have tried the bacon, egg and cheese and the sausage, egg and cheese tacos. Both delicious. The jalapeno ranch is AWESOME. Love how cheese comes on everything. Service is great. Ambiance gets a thumbs up. The only bad thing is - they aren't open on Sundays! Definitely my new favorite breakfast destination!

This place is so great, it's down the street from my school and I've heard it mentioned a number of times so I had to check it out. Make sure you get up there early because they are only open until two. The setup inside is pretty simple, stand in line, order at the register and wait for you order to be called. If you order a queso, they will hand you a token. Make sure to turn the token in right away to get your queso before your food is ready. The tacos are a couple of dollars a piece and don't be fooled, they are huge! As a female, I usually order one and then share a queso with a friend. If I'm really hungry, I can have two tacos. The evan is my favorite taco and it has: black beans, rice, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce and cheese. I know, I know, no meat but still delicious. I've heard wonderful things about their breakfast tacos but I have yet to try them. And I ALWAYS get disaster queso, I love the hunk of guacamole they put in it, best of both worlds! The people are friendly, the food is great, the inside is silly If you are debating it, you HAVE to go

i'm not a huge taco fan, but i really like taco joint. i don't eat tacos much, so my experience is limited to taco bell and taco cabana! and i happen to really like those 2 places. i like taco joint the best. i always get the Lester. it's like 2 bucks and some change. and it fills me up (granted, i'm a tiny asian girl). i pour their lovely jalapeno ranch sauce all over my taco b/c it's so good. i wish this place was open past 2pm and open on sundays. i hope they fix that. service is great. very clean establishment. parking kinda sucks. located in a shady area. so maybe that's why they are only open during daylight hours...

A break through... For the first time in almost a year, I fought the urge to not get whatever the special taco of the day was. Whether it be the unbeatable brisket, the crispy fried chicken, or the amazing fish. I feel good about myself. I went with a Lester, which is a better version, of the double decker, same concept, just....ya know........REALLY good. I had your standard crispy taco, ate it in 3 bites, IJS. And a chalupa. Now, I wanted to talk about the chalupa. It is a tostada topped with all things taco. But if you have had one other places, you know the struggles of trying to cut the thing into bites, or lifting it to your pie hole. Both resulting in a total topping explosion, and you lose precious taco innards. But at TJ, they solved this problem. The tostada, is uneven, so there is room underneath to cut, without the sacrifice, and top that with the rojo sauce, and you're in business. Two other great things about TJ....The first one, may only be funny to me, but try it. Sit at the bar, and while you are watching the mad dash in the parking lot, of people deperatley trying to hurry to get in line, before that guy, and still look professional. Anyway, watch the people around you, and when they call their name, make a note. Then(like i did today), when they sit back down, in a very loud a touristy voice, just go "How's the tortilla soup, TOM?!"....And the second thing, is being located a hop skip and a crosswalk away from Baylor Hospital, TJ is full of doctors, nurses, and all that. So, if you trip making the parking lot dash, or choke on your burrito(giggidy), or pass out from how good the food is.....your covered.

Came during Sat afternoon, the parking lot was completely full, inside was also crowded, good music playing in the background, there were 7 or 8 people queued up to order food, names were announced to get their food, good place to people watch, the line went relatively fast, the guy behind the counter was very efficient and friendly too. I was sneaking peeks at the menu painted in front of the counter, but with all the bodies buzzing around, it was hard to see, the fajita taco sounded good, but when it was my turn, I noticed the sign on the counter, the special was fish fritter taco, and they have grilled fish taco too, that sounded delicious, the grilled fish that is, unfortunately he told me they don't serve them on Sat, are you kidding me? maybe it's time to update it? So I ordered fajita taco, two of them, and some chips and salsa. He handed me a poker chip and a styrofoam cup for my drink, the cup was clinging to my hand, so I was not at all surprised to find a hair in my cup later, couldn't tell if it was mine or not, but no biggie, just a hair, it wasn't curly. I handed the poker chip to the guy on the other side of the counter, I got my drink, and the chips and salsa was ready, you get a big basket of chips for 2 bucks, but I immediately regretted not getting queso instead, cause it look so good on other peoples table. I found myself a stool by the window, started to try out the different salsas, the one came with the chips had no heat, the green tomatillo from the salsa bar was a lot nicer, got a good kick to it. I was only into a few chips then they called my name. The tacos looked mighty fine, I figure throwing precooked steak and veggie together should not take long at all. Then I regretted again for not specifying corn tortilla, guess the default here is flour, I am used to the other way around, well I assumed, my bad. The onion in the tacos were under cooked, a tad strong, but extra green salsa took care of that, it was mighty fine going down. I had a five stars review drafted on the phone. But then the bad part, I was cruising the museum 45 mins later and I had the runs. All of a sudden my stomach was gurgling and I was pinching my cheeks and doing the speed walking to the toilet. Luckily the nice clean restroom at the museum was empty. Hmmm, if you do the heresy squirt in your stall, and no one was there to hear or smell it, does your dodo still a stinky poo? I flushed multiple times, and ran back out before anyone could see me. I don't recall reading anyone else complaining on their cleanliness, so maybe they had a bad day, one off, fluke, so I only took off one star. Oh, have to take off another star because of all the styrofoam and foil used at that the joint, need to go green, use paper cups and wax paper, I've seen them used at other places, works great, better for the eco, and all that stuff. Actually I get bitchy when toilet water splashes on my butt cheeks. I was good and proper the night before, didn't have anything for breakfast, you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out who's responsible. Guilty as charged!

Great place. Very busy during lunch but it's well worth the wait. Had the brisket taco and sophie taco in the combo plate, both were excellent! The rice and beans were also great as there were served together in the same bowl. The jalapeno ranch and red salsa are top notch so be sure to get the chips as well. Went back the next day to try the breakfast and it was awesome! Got the state fair plate and it was a plate full of eggs, bacon, potatoes, and refried beans for $6. It was awesome.

A little pricey for breakfast tacos. Also not very many specialty taco options. The burritos seem to be more bang for your buck. You get a free drink though if it's your first time! Queso was probably my favorite part of the meal. They also refill your chips for free, which is awesome. Tortilla soup is actually pretty warm and filling. Recommended if you're not in a taco mood but don't want to be a party pooper. Would have to point out that they do not offer a spicy salsa option, which is kind of a bummer. They had 3 salsa options: mild tomatillo, mild creamy jalapeno, and mild salsa rojo. I need some HEAT!!! I told the cashier Torchy's in Austin was probably my favorite taco place. He confessed he goes to Torchy's on Sundays here in Dallas. That's right my friends.

What can I say about Taco Joint that 90 other people haven't covered? Hmm.. For the sake of needing to say something original, if you are me, and you come here for Brisket Tacos, you might just run into your former bosses (um, awkward). I loved my brisket tacos and the jalapeño ranch, but I just lucked out that one of the people at my table had an extra slice of avocado to share... because I ran out of avocado before I ran out of taco. I learned you are supposed to eat your tacos while leaning over the bowl of beans and rice. This way the combination of brisket au jus and the jalapeño ranch enhance the rice and beans in a way nothing else could. The problem is... the brisket tacos are so good, you may be way too full after your tacos to eat the rice and beans. Parking here sucks, and they really need to find a way to fix that... I suggest a parking level/garage type structure over the building. Taco Joint is not a place I can eat lunch at very often because it is no where near my office... but for those rare special occasion long lunches, when you just need a change of scenery for an hour or so... this is the place.

Wow! What is there to say that hasn't been said? When I walked in, I was skeptical. What could these guys know? Then I had their breakfast burrito covered in jalepeno ranch. Sweet virgin mary! I have also had the veggie taco and I've quite enjoyed that. Unfortunately I haven't gotten to have a brisket taco., but I'm excited to try those too and update.

Entering Taco Joint was like being transported back in a time to my college days in Austin, Texas. The hole in the wall vibe, artsy records on the ceiling and mural on the wall instantly made me feel like I was back in East Austin, getting my usual weekend breakfast taco fix. Flavor didn't let me down either. Migas Taco (the "MT") is probably one of the top 5 tacos I've ever had. Cheese oozing out the sides, finely chopped jalepenos and onions meant you never got an overwealming spice attack from hitting a big piece of jalepeno, piping hot, overall DELICIOUS! The salsa bar is awesome.. Literally could have taken shots of that jalepeno ranch, it was so tasty! Prices are Austin-like as well, at ~$2.50 a taco. This place will definitely be on the breakfast rotation now!

Given all of the hype and the number of reviews on this place, I had high expectations. I came away unimpressed. Then I found out that this place was run by 2 guys from Austin. Then I was a little sad. Coming from the taco-dom of Torchy's and Taco Deli, one expects much better. They brought the packaging - quirky/funny sign out front, the use of corrugated metal inside, etc. The guy taking orders was even dressed as Johnny from Cobra Kai/Karate Kid (to keep with the theme on the sign outside that day). Packaging however, does not a great taco establishment make (as proven by the gas-station awesomeness of Fuel City and others). Taco Joint forgot to bring the same effort to their tacos though. Many reviewers have commented on the size of the tacos being too big. I actually don't have a problem with this, as I like the bang-for-buck, and these tacos are slightly more expensive than say Fuel City (which are much smaller though). The tortillas are not up to par though. They seemed like the Mission tortillas I could pick up at Kroger, and I question whether a truly good, soft tortilla could be made to construct as big of a taco as these are. And let's talk about selection. Maybe this place has chosen the brisket-or-breakfast-taco-be-damned route, but no al pastor? no barbacoa? no pork or picadillo? just breakfast, ground beef or fajita meat!? Am I at Taco Bell? I want my wedge of lime, queso fresco, fresh onion and cilantro damn it! *steps off soapbox* I will give this place 3 stars though. The sauces are great (shout-out to the jalapeno ranch which *cough* would go great on shredded pork or chicken taco). And the breakfast taco I had was pretty good, average tortilla aside. It should also be noted that I went on a Saturday and thus, there was no brisket taco option. Since that seems central to the Taco Joint experience (as noted by this week's yelp event), I will withhold harsher judgment at this time.

This is by far the best taco place in Dallas. It's a little hard to find, but totally worth it. The owners are two young guys - I would guess in their late 20s - one of them is originally from Austin and the other from Houston. After learning this, it completely describes the place - a hybrid of an Austin/Houston taco shop. Casual, great food, and great service. The absolute best thing about this place are the condiments. I am obsessed with the jalapeno ranch!! TIP: They close at 2pm on Saturdays, which can be a little early when you're hungover. Last time we were there the owner said if you call right before 2pm and give them an ETA, they will have your tacos waiting for you at the to go counter. Like I said, GREAT SERVICE!

I didn't really care for the tacos here... I had a brisket taco and the sophie veggie taco...They were fresh and ample but didn't have enough flavor for me. We also had the chips and queso and its just the same as you can make at home with adding a can of Rotel...I've had the breakfast tacos and think they are just okay too.. nothing special. (don't kill me) Right now I'm a Torchy's fan... and looking forward to trying Fuzzy's.

Dear Yelpers on the outskirts of Dallas, I know you are out there and I know for the last few months you have been wondering, "Hmmm...should I really skip out on work/school/my daughter's wedding just to drive all the way down to The Taco Joint for those famed brisket tacos?" I was once in your shoes, but hopefully I can help clear some things up. Now that the brisket tacos are served everyday (M-F), I was finally able make it down with Joseph W. last Friday. I did not want to spoil my first Taco Joint experience with anything other than the brisket tacos, so I have been waiting until the right moment, when the planets have aligned just right, to be able to make it down there. Now, I apologize, but I get a bit long-winded about my tacos, but here it is. The tacos have some good things going on and some bad things. The Good: The meat is well seasoned with a nice marinade. The brisket was moist and drips juice into your little basket as you eat. The tacos are quite simple overall- brisket, tortilla, with a side of avocado, lettuce, and tomato. The famed jalapeno ranch is another option as is red and green salsa. The jalepeno ranch was the highlight of the tacos for me. The cool creaminess of the ranch paired perfectly with the seasoning on the meat. They should just bottle the meat juice-jalepeno ranch blend and sell it on the street corner. It would probably make my sock taste good. The bad: My brisket was kinda tough and not tender at all. Plus the fact that it is so over-loaded with meat it was slightly difficult to eat. I know over-loaded sounds great, but when the meat is tough and you have to sit there and gnaw on a mouthful of cow flesh to get a bite, it's not the greatest taco experience I've had in my life. I kinda felt like a greedy hyena devouring a wildebeest on a episode of National Geographic. Also (and here's where the taco snob in me really starts to show his ugly head) the tortillas are all out of a bag and not homemade, and you can taste it. This always seems like the lazy man's method of making tacos and, to me, says that a place is more concerned with putting out quantity than quality. Aside from tacos, the Disaster Queso is a must and, in my opinion, better than the tacos. The chips are pretty flimsy so you likely need to double-stack to get decent scoopage but the queso is anything but a disaster. Don't expect much from the rice and beans, but take the advice that other Yelpers have offered and pour your brisket/ranch drippings into them. Much better that way. The question is, should you make a huge effort to get down to the Taco Joint? I would say, maybe. Obviously there are some very mixed opinions here, but I am pretty middle of the road. I won't make the effort to go down there again from North Irving, but I am still glad I tried it out and it was overall enjoyable. If you are in the area, drop by for sure. I sure hope this doesn't earn me any mortal enemies on Yelp or anything, but I had to tell it straight.

After today's very chilly, very slushy 12 mile run, we knew we needed something warm and filling for breakfast, so we headed to the Taco Joint. After some deliberation, I tried the potato-egg-chorizo breakfast taco and the potato-egg-bacon breakfast taco. Both were good, but the chorizo taco was spectacular. I love that they don't skimp on fillings. I had ordered three tacos, and of course I ate them all, but two probably would have been enough. I've been looking for breakfast tacos like these in Dallas for a long time. Now I just need to find my way back to TJ for lunch so I can finally try their brisket tacos.

Should I write an update every time I try something new on the menu? Yes. Yes, I think that's appropriate. Last night I went to sleep dreaming of what my migas taco this morning would look and taste like. Little did I know what was in store for me when I woke up thinking of the Taco Joint. First of all, Saturday breakfast time is just as busy, if not busier, than lunch time in this place. I don't know if it being TX/OU weekend had anything to do with it, but I waited in a ten minute line. This only led me to believe one thing: THEY PUT CRACK IN THEIR TACOS. And lots of cheese. Yum. Corey, of course, recognized me even with glasses and no makeup on. Big props! When I ordered he asked if I liked hot stuff (yes please) and said they're trying out a few new things. When my migas taco was ready, I noticed there was small cup of some deep red chunky sauce next to it. Ahhh...this must be the tester. Sure - I'll be a guinea pig. The new salsa - I think - had chipotles/adobo sauce, sriracha hot sauce and red pepper flakes and a mixture of other 10-alarm fire ingredients. A single sniff made my nose burn, so I was super careful and used just a pinch in my taco. Man, it really kicked it up a notch! The migas taco was soft, warm and I savored every single bite. I got a side of black beans with it and of course drenched everything in jalapeno ranch. What else is a girl to do? Corey was super busy being the awesome Mr. Customer Service Man that he is, so I didn't have a chance to thank him on my way out. But if you're looking for some feedback on the sauce Corey, I only have one thing for ya -- lighten up on the red pepper flakes just a bit. It makes the salsa rough and I didn't like crunching down on one with every bite.

My lunch crew and I usually hit up TJ about twice a week, sometimes three times. Not only do they have some of the best brisket tacos I've tasted, but their simple ground beef is so tasty I can't help get any other type of meat. Hard to find ground beef that is better than a place's fajita meat! My favorite thing is the soft taco combo. For about $7 or $8 you get two soft tacos, rice, refried breans, and a drink. That usually fills me up, sometimes I do add a crunch taco. Great crunchy tacos although very messy, just get extra napkins. :-) I could probably drink their jalapeno ranch, that's how good it is. I have been known to sit there and dip my fork in it and just eat it off my fork. They also have wonderful daily specials, and a pretty hefty burrito topped with spicy queso. Make sure to aim for the 'coldest table in the joint' if you can, great spot to cool down in this heat!! Still have yet to try their breakfast tacos, as I'm such a late sleeper on Saturdays.

Salsa makes or breaks a taco place. Taco Joint's salsa taste like cocktail sauce. Instead of jalapeño flavor it tastes like horseradish. I was disappointed when ordering the Sophie that all of the ingredients were not present. When ordering a taco I don't want to find the potatoes are missing when the description clearly has them listed on their menu. Nothing stands out on the menu. It's a very beef heavy menu which is hard when you don't eat beef. I'm interested in what the breakfast taco taste like, but again with their salsa tasting like cocktail sauce, I'm not sure I will return. If I did, I would bring in my own salsa.

After all the awesome Yelp reviews about the Taco Joint, I had to check it out when I was downtown today. I was super excited about having the chance to dine there even though it was not brisket taco Tuesday. I just KNEW it was going to be GREATNESS! I felt solid about the expectations...Austinesque with gringo tacos. I understood that there would be a line and that parking would be crazy. I was good to go! I had the 2 beef soft tacos with beans, rice and a soft drink ($7 and some change). I tried all 3 sauces: green, red, and jalapeno ranch. I did experiments with each sauce on the tacos AND mixed with the beans and rice. I was expecting something new and exciting, but I left surprised and underwhelmed. Another reviewer mentioned that the soft tacos tasted like they were from a school cafeteria. I concur. I can't believe how much I paid for these babies to be so...so...mediocre. The beans and rice were average, but you don't go here for beans and rice. None of the salsas knocked my socks off, and the jalapeno ranch just didn't work for me on the tacos or sides. There is a lot of hype for this place, but I didn't find it to be worth the wait or parking grief. The music and feel of the place are very "Austin," but I'm not a fan of loud music and names being called out for orders every few seconds. It was just not my kind of place and would not be worth the drive from Carrollton. For the food--2 stars. The service was outstanding though--4 stars. Average of both--3 stars. I'm pretty sure I have just committed a Yelp travesty by not being in love the the Taco Joint. Sorry, I just can't joint the TJ club. El Paisa in Carrollton is still my favorite. I like the variety, the fact that I'm often the only person in the place who speaks English, and the vast amount of accoutrement's to decorate my tacos with. YUMMY and close to home!

A few facts** about The Taco Joint that you might not know: 1. Eating their heavenly Tuesday brisket tacos makes you more attractive to your peers and is said to marginally increase your intelligence. 2. The jalapeno ranch sauce contains the tears that God shed upon arriving too late to order lunch at TJ one day. 3. Combining their rice, beans and various salsas creates a potent mixture of deliciousness guaranteed to improve your outlook on life 4. There are few things in this world that TJ tacos and a soda on crunchy ice cannot fix. The things that can't be solved by double corn tortilla lovin' aren't worth wasting your time on anyway. 5. TJ employees all have photographic memories and have been collectively nominated as Time magazine's "people of the year" , but declined because they're just modest like that. **NOTE: the above statements were not approved by The Taco Joint, its owners, employees, friends, lovers, Time magazine, the FDA, God etc. and have not been verified as factual in any way, shape or form. But trust me, I'm pretty sure they're all mostly true.

    I. am. completely. obsessed. I have been visiting Taco Joint since I moved back to Dallas in 2009. Being a transplant from Austin, I took for granted the availability of awesome breakfast taco options throughout the city. These guys have captured the true Austin spirit of breakfast--great ingredients, casual atmosphere. I love coming in on a Saturday morning to see them dressed in attire from different universities (although the line can be quite long)! For breakfast tacos, my staples are the migas taco, the steak fajita and egg taco and a bean, potato and cheese taco. The migas tacos are especially huge, and have the right balance of eggs, tortilla strips, tomatoes, onions and cheese. I'm a traditionalist, so I prefer corn tortillas, but their flour are great as well. My other staples include the migas plate and the Big Tex burrito with added avocado. The migas plate is a generous helping, with sides of potatoes and refried beans. The Big Tex burrito leaves you in an amazing food-induced euphoria of beef fajita, eggs, cheese, beans and potatoes. I ate the migas plate this morning, but just writing this review is making me hungry again!

Am I back in Austin??? Could it be? Oh....ok... no, Dallas just actually has an amazing taco...errr.... joint. This place is delicious, it is on the cheap side, the portions are not skimpy, the salsa selections are great, and they have black beans (very important). I am a huge fan of the breakfast options they have, but the non breakfast menu is just as spectacular. We need more breakfast taco places like this in Dallas.

Its hard for me to write a review about TacoJoint because all I can think about is eating another brisket taco. When I got to TJ the place was packed and the line was to the door. I took my place and when I reached the counter a very handsome man (owner?) asked me what brought me there. I said I read on Yelp that it was the end-all-be-all of taco establishments, and he told me to "not believe the lies" before giving me a pokerchip for free chips and salsa! The chips were fresh and the salsa was tasty, so I munched on those and (taking the advice of yelp) stocked up on jalapeno ranch, while waiting for my order. Shortly enough my name was called and my brisket tacos were steaming on the counter. o.m.g. That was some juicy delicious brisket. Honestly, I didn't need avocado or lettuce to make them any better ( though they were nice textures against the brisket). These were the juiciest, messiest (especially after I got wise and poured two containers of jalapeno ranch over them) most delicious tacos I've ever encountered. The rice/bean combo was ok, not amazing for sure.....but eh, thats why its not called "The Rice/Bean Joint." Yummy. Now I have to try a breakfast taco.

OK, maybe there is a lack of hispanic cooks, I really liked the menu and the smell made me want to eat more. I only got 2 breakfast tacos, simple egg, cheese and bacon. Simple maybe, but so good and filling. The tortillas were fresh (not like you get at Cabana or Bueno). Nice, crispy bacon made it even better. This is in walking distance from my house, so I am assuming I will be paying another visit pretty soon, most likely for lunch next time. Based on what I have, I give it 4 out of 5 starts with the anticipation of more great food.

5 stars with a caveat - I wish they were open on Sundays and earlier on Saturdays. Don't they know the adoring public needs breakfast tacos before golf and on the Lord's day? It's the Chick-Fil-A of taco joints - its closed when you have the biggest hankering for it. With that in mind, this place is awesome. Our personal favorites are the breakfast tacos with cheese, eggs, and potatoes. Delicious. Also, the queso is amazing (just wish the wife enjoyed the full experience of the Disaster like I do - guac, beef, pico, and queso - mmm....). I drive down Live Oak to downtown every weekday morning and have to fight myself not to divert to the Taco Joint. The owners and staff are great, friendly, and manage the madhouse that it becomes on Saturday mornings with impressive ease. It could be a little bigger, but not a problem as long as folks don't try to save a seat for their party in line. (Jerks.) Thanks for bringing a little bit of Austin to Dallas. Note - they have brisket tacos one day a week as a special for lunch (may have changed), but a co-worker mentioned they were some of the best he's had (including Mia's). Had a bite, and have to say I was impressed.

As I read all of the other reviews here, I can't help but think, "Did I go to the right place?" I went to the one about a block away from the Grace United Methodist Church. My buddies Dan and Matt wanted to go get some good lunch today after our latest Medical School test beatdown. Dan suggested this place, having wanted to try it for a while. I have to say that I wasn't real enthusiastic about coming here. I looked at the online menu and wasn't impressed. The big deal seems to be brisket tacos, but I just don't get brisket tacos. Maybe it's some sort of mental defect or something, but I don't like them and don't get why anybody would. But, like I said, that's probably my problem. However, luckily for me, Friday's special at the Taco Joint is fish tacos, which I REALLY like. Everything started out great. Although it took a few minutes to find a parking space (good sign -- this place was crowded,) the stars aligned and we got one right in front. I wasn't sure whether to go with the "special" fried fish tacos or the grilled fish tacos, but the guy who took my order suggested I try one of each. I didn't know I could do that -- cool! Then, I ordered a drink, but was informed that one was included. All for a measly 8 bucks. Great start indeed. While I waited for my food, I admired the myriad of pictures of famous people who apparently really enjoy the tacos here. One particularly prominent one was Larry Hagman (but it seemed that he was all decked out in his J.R. Ewing props.) Well, now I know why J.R. got shot -- he must've taken his buddies to this place to get the Fish tacos. Once I got my food, everything went downhill fast. To be fair, the grilled fish taco was decent, but not as good as what I can get from Berry Hill, or any of the myriad of places in Austin. The fried fish taco, however, was horrible and bordering on nasty. It was barely lukewarm, suggesting that it had been sitting out for a while (and we were here around 12:30 - 1:00 pm, still in the heart of the lunch hour.) There wasn't a whole lot of flavor to the fish, and it was easy to see why -- there wasn't very much of it there. The "fish" was mostly breading. When I realized that I was mostly just eating fried breading, I had an "Ewwwwwww" moment. The tortillas were unremarkable, as were the beans and rice. Some of their salsas are also questionable. I am not impressed. There is no excuse for serving almost cold food. If I were Austin, I would be pissed that these guys are advertising that they are representing Austin. Places like Tacodeli (in Austin) easily put this place to shame.

Leave it to Nikki B to ensure that I'm well-fed on my way out of town: we stopped at her home away from home The Taco Joint, winner of Dallas's Most Eponymously Named Business award. The word's out on this joint: the lunch rush was in full swing when I happened in, and as I was famished (and a tad hungover from the previous night's elite goofiness), I needed something substantial to tide me over on my drive home. The good news is that even if you chomp on something that tends toward being a little greasy (I descended upon a pair of soft beef tacos that were tremendous), those weren't trans-fats I was downing. They don't do that here, thanks very much. In the end, as we sat hunched over a couple of baskets of chips with queso and the reminder of my just finished meal past The Taco Joint was a clear winner. And when I get back here for breakfast one day, I bet I'll find that fifth star waiting.

Omm nom nom nom! I boycotted this place for a little bit because it just seemed too cool for school and I really didn't think Tex-Mex was worth my time when I make Mexican at home several times a week anyways. But then there were brisket tacos. On Friday. My lunch buddy said the brisket could have been saltier but I enjoyed it and was more than satisfied by my two giant tacos on corn tortillas, rice and beans, fresh avocado slices, lettuce, tomatoes, and perfectly spiced jalapeno ranch. It was a hearty lunch for $8 that far surpasses many Tex-Mex options in the area. So my fears of cheese-coated, greasy tex mex on overly floury tortillas were wrong! Phew. And it wasn't so cool that I couldn't find a table during the lunch rush on Friday. Tips for improvement? Giant plastic bottles of hot sauce on every table please. And saltier brisket. Other than that I welcome this fine establishment to my neighborhood. There was an excellent community vibe and the workers remember your name super fast. In fact, I got flashbacks of Surf Taco in San Diego, same ambience and nummy food... just lacking an ocean and hot surfers. I guess you can't have it all. Word to the wise: Stick with tacos for lunch, the burritos were not so good, and my buddy went "old school" and asked a worker what was good there and he said the tortilla soup was... so all y'all adventurous yelpers better get on that.

Stopped in to pick up breakfast tacos for my team at work this morning, and in the words of one of my colleagues, "it was a home run." I was in there right around 9, and the place was really busy. They managed to prepare my order pretty quickly (given that I was asking for 14 tacos), and they let me know that they'd guarantee a pick-up time if I could call ahead next time. I'm a vegetarian, so I had a migas taco and a potato taco. The migas taco was incredible (especially with that jalapeno ranch everyone on yelp has been raving about)! The potato taco (with diced, seasoned potatoes) was also good (mostly because of the jalapeno ranch). The chorizo tacos were also quite popular (yes, I actually bought meat tacos for my co-workers). I can't wait to go back and try their lunch tacos (with jalapeno ranch!).

I take friends there and when there is no crazy line I definitely love this place. The guac is good and there are lots of good taco options. Its one of the better places around when everything is in working order. They give you a poker chip which is for queso or guac you can get that before you get your food. They also have a nice selection of salsas. And the staff know the regulars by name. The manager is definitely paying attention to the comments on Yelp and offered to rectify the unfortunate morning mentioned below. Maybe soon it will all just be a distant memory. So if you have a problem, ask for the manager... hopefully that will fix the problem. I had simply run out of time that morning to contact the proper authorities.

Decent tacos here, although when I first walked in I was surprised to see far more Caucasian professionals than actual Latinos. Had the soft beef taco and the soft beef fajita taco. First of all, I'm not huge on their tortillas. They kinda taste like something you'd find off the shelf at your local K-Roger. The soft beef taco was really quite average, and nothing special. There was a good spice mix in the beef, but overall I wouldn't say it stood out. The beef fajita taco was much better. Really good flavor in the fajita meat, although whoever cut the slices needs to pay a lil more attention. I ended up with some gristle that held the pieces together, and you know how when you eat a fajita, and then one piece of meat pulls all the other pieces of meat out, and then you try pulling off the excess with your fingers, but it doesn't really work so then you just end up eating all the meat at once? Yeah.... Also, some of the fajita meat was burnt and left a charred taste. Overall, decent, and I'll be back, but not before first paying another visit to La Victoria just down the street along Haskell.

It's great having an athletic wife. But it's tough having an athletic wife who is faster than you. So after having my ass dragged around White Rock Lake for 15 miles, it is only the thought of two breakfast tacos at The Taco Joint that keeps me going. This is 5 star Dallas Breakfast Tacos. The reason I gave it 4 is because after six years in Austin, I have had better. That being said, these guys do it great - and always treat you with friendship and a sincere smile. Tips: The potatoes can get old and cold at times. I've switched to beans in the taco. Also, for a small upcharge you can order egg white breakfast tacos. With cheese, bacon and beans already in the taco, I really don't notice the difference. All three of the sauces are great - although the Jalapeno Ranch adds some extra zip to the BTs. Thanks so much Taco Joint - at about Mile 10 you become my rabbit, as I chase my wife (the greyhound). Without that motivation, I may have stopped running by now.

If you're looking for "authentic" tacos, this might not be for you. But that's ok, because that's not what they're trying to be. Sure, they're gringo tacos, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Everything is tasty, the employees are friendly and the atmosphere is very laid back. The lunchtime offerings are good (I recommend the Lester), but I think breakfast is what they do best. The Five Alarm is hands down my favorite breakfast burrito ever. It's chorizo, scrambled eggs, refried beans, cheese and a five chile salsa. It's delicious. Also, the migas tacos are great. In short, it's good food on the cheap. What's not to love?

On this one, I'll have to disagree with many of you, fellow yelpers. I found this place to serve good quality tacos but definitely not to rave about. They're larger than normal breakfast tacos and the fillings, at least chorizo and refried beans, are tasty; but the tortilla is really lacking. It feels like a MIssion tortilla - thick and flavorless. Another thing that really disappointed me, was their salsas. Maybe I had high expectations, but they were blah. The jalapeno ranch, tasted more like Kraft's ranch dressing blended with some jalapenos. Not good. The other two (tomatillo and red) were kinda sweet and not spicy at all. I'd go back to this place but I'd get the tacos to go and would eat them with my freshly made, spicy salsas

I've been trying to get my hands on some of these famed brisket tacos for weeks now, after all the hype I've been reading on Yelp. I created this insane scenario in my head about what this Tuesday would entail and what the events that would lead me here would be. I imagined driving down Gaston thinking about my grandmother in the nude, so as not to get an erection. I'd have print outs of all my Yelp friends photos, so I could go up to each table and hold a photo next to a complete strangers face, to try and identify these Yelper's, at this Tuesday Yelp hangout, like I was Colombo on Mythbuster's. I'd write Douglas S. on my forehead in lipstick and build a makeshift sign protruding out the top of my skull, with my profile pic on it ,and a little orange triangular flag dangling from the top, so they might recognize me. Then, while being dragged out the door by both customers and management, a table of people at the back would yell "HALT... we know that dude!" It would be my Yelp buddies to the rescue. They'd hug me and we would all dance around in a circle like wild pagans. They'd hand me a brisket taco and walk me back to the table, chanting in an unknown language, as if I were being initiated into a secret society like Skull and Bones... Oh wait, I forgot that's "Elite" status which I already got kicked out of, DAMN! But in reality I walked through the door and stood in a line about eight people deep, like an average schmo, a nobody. I ordered my Tuesday special of two brisket tacos with rice, beans and a drink for $7.39+tax and drove home. Sure the tacos were good and the atmosphere was great, but the experience wasn't quite how I had imagined.

I went here for the first time today. It was 7am and I was so glad they were open (they open @ 6:30) I had the egg and black bean and the egg and bacon taco on corn tortilla. It isn't anything special, but it is quick, cheap and good! I really like the sauce as it is mild enough for me to eat, yet has lots of flavor. What will keep me coming back? the friendly service and the ICE!! I LOVE RABBIT PELLET ICE!!!!!

This place is delicious! Here are 5 reasons why this place is my favorite restaurant in Dallas... 1. The Disaster Queso is some of the best queso I have ever had. 2. Taco Joe 3. The Lester 4. The staff and owners are all nice and friendly 5. It has a great atmosphere! Good people love taco joint

If you're looking for a place with a friendly atmosphere where you can get your gringo taco on for breakfast or lunch, I've got the spot for you. Check out the Taco Joint! I've been going to this wonderful little restaurant for many months now and I've well-nigh been there every single weekend (and some week days) since I've found out about it. The food is simply well made, fresh and unpretentious. You can really tell the business owners really do care about the food they serve and their customers. They're a couple of friendly guys out from the University of Taco in Austin (not to be confused with the other UT)! Oh, and no lard is used in their recipes, if that's important to you. Although the regular menu is quite scrumptious, they serve daily specials at lunch. Two of the most notable ones would be the now famous brisket taco, served on Tuesdays, and the wonderful fish tacos, served on Fridays. The batter they use for the fish tacos has corn niblets in it. Pure taco genius! If you're looking for al pastor, lengua or other Mexican originals, this won't be your spot. But for you, my gringo friends, this might very well be the place you call home for breakfast and/or lunch!

LOVED the Taco Joint. You know you're a fan when you start following the restaurant on Twitter after you've eaten there. Can you say sucker? Awesome place to stop for tacos on your lunch hour. They've got plenty of menu items but I recommend Clyde's Combo. It's a marinated beef or chicken fajita in a warm flour tortilla stuffed with grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. Don't forget to try the Jalapeño Ranch sauce off to the side! The guys behind the counter are just as cool as Yelpers say. The area of town isn't that great but they only stay open till lunchtime anyway. Will definitely be back.

Simply the BEST tacos I have ever had in Dallas...or anywhere for that matter! I have worked down the street for years but had never eaten here until last week. We decided to try it at work during our slow week when someone could actually take the time to go over and pick up our order. For $2.29 per soft taco, we didn't have much to lose. My coworker brought the food back and it smelled delicious. First tried the salsa, because the salsa is a pretty good indicator of how its going to go. The verdict? Their salsa is damn good! A perfect compromise between watery and super chunky (I hate really chunky salsa). I eagerly took a bite of my soft taco and it was BLISS. I cannot even joke about how amazing these tacos are! I have yet to try their famous brisket tacos or their breakfast tacos, but the breakfast tacos are definitely on my list for this week. :) We have been back to Taco Joint THREE times in the last week and half LOL. And their portions are awesome, no worries about whether or not you'll be full when you leave. Trust me, you will be. I forgot to mention that their jalapeno ranch is out of this world. Just go there. It may not be in the best part of town but you'll be so glad you tried it out!

I've been here several times before and the place that definitely knows your name. I came back after not having gone there for a month and Corey (I believe that's his name) actually called me by first name. Impressive. The service is quite friendly and this place is a local draw for people who live and work in the East Dallas/Lakewood area. The tacos are Ok but not great. I really like Fuel City and El Paisa. There's nothing authentic about the tacos. They are in fact quite filling but not anything that you probably had before at your local Taco Joint. The atmosphere is comfortable and they seem to continue to upgrade. I feel that's its a step above being a hole in the wall but its hard to avoid that if you own a restaurant off the Gaston/Peak street unless its been totally gutted and remodeled. Overall if you're looking for some decent breakfast tacos or burritos I say give it a whirl. They open at 6am and close at 2pm so you'll need to get there fairly early.

Maybe I'm going on the right days or ordering the right thing, because I have never had a problem here! I live within walking distance, and always kick myself when I'm looking for a place to eat lunch and completely forget about this place. The parking is a problem, but I can usually find a place on the street. I have never been there when it was anything less than packed. Standing in line to order, you must scout out the 20 or so tables for signs they will be available soon. Then, push your friend/loved one/family towards the table before anyone else can scoop it up! The queso is fantastic (it's no Bob from Matt's Ranchero, but at half the price who cares). You can even get it vegetarian (no ground beef) if you prefer. I usually get the beef soft tacos and load them down with jalapeno ranch and hot sauce. My sister is vegetarian, and prefers The Evan (black beans, rice, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, and Monterrey jack cheese) to the fancier Sophie (flavor profile is a bit off). Taco Joint loses a star because it is not quick- those guys are working a mile a minute to get your food out to you, but if you're dining in, you'll eat up your full hour lunch (travel included). They do offer To Go, so that's a great option. The guacamole is hit or miss as well. Also, they don't give you enough guac or sour cream if you pay for extra. On the bright side, it's only .99 and .49 a piece, so you can definitely buy two. PS- They are taking off the week of Christmas (lucky) so you'll have to wait to get your taco fix until the 28th.

The Taco Joint...I am your new fan. I've been meaning to go here after all the reviews I've read but breakfast and lunch only always made it tricky. SOOOOOOO GOOD. I ordered "The Sophie" which was a vegetarian taco filled with deliciousness. I should have ordered two because the one I did order was mighty small for such an amazing taste. Plus, it was super cheap so, really, I could have gotten three. It was crowded, but just wait a bit and you'll get a seat/table. The people were so nice and full of smiles despite the line and the place was really clean for it's location and the number of people. Next I want to try their breakfast tacos (early - 10 a.m.)!

Here's a quick story just how Taco Joint has become a family favorite. Today, my wife came downstairs and said we could reheat some sloppy joes for lunch. When I reminded her we talked about hitting Taco Joint earlier in the week, she gasped, and ran over to give me a big squeeze hug. She was that thrilled to know he taste buds were about to experience pure joy. My favorite is the Lester (think gourmet double decker tacos) with the creamy jalapeno and green salsas. I also love their breakfast taco with egg, cheese, beans and chorizo. One is enough. We've started ordering to-go to avoid the half-hour wait. It's just too long with kids. Finally, the owner is super nice and clearly takes pride in pleasing his customers. A total winner in our hood.

I love this place. I travel alot for my job and after 2.5 yrs of coming to Dallas, I've finally found my "place." Here are the reasons why i think it's great: - wheat tortillas (white flour is the devil) - lard free refried beans - enormous proportions - veggie options - close to my office - cute boys behind the counter This week I've had the 5 alarm breakfast burrito and the Great Gordo burrito. They were delicious. Only thing - their hot salsa is not very hot. I want my nose to run and my eyes to water with my hot salsa. Reason why it didn't get 5 stars: those cute boys behind the counter can't get a tip if I pay with a credit card. That's a crime. Next time I'm in Dallas - I will be back to the taco joint!

Migas Taco was very dull. Beef soft taco, shoulda known, tasted like a school cafeterias. Tortilla's were not fresh, and I'm no crazy food snob, but come on...store bought Mission tortillas? The salsa bar at Taco Cabana is more impressive than this one. The roja was okay, the tomatillo sauce was pretty good. I did like my 3 item breakfast taco: Egg, Potato, Chorizo. PRETTY GOOD! The Chorizo tasted great and well-spiced and the potatoes were damn good. But still, a good tortilla would make it even better. The "Distaster" is just that...a beautiful disaster of queso, ground beef, guac, and tomatoes. That was good as well. I will come here and try the Brisket Tacos and some of the other "specials." But as far as the best taco place in town, I need to see a lot more.

Location= random Atmosphere= feels like being in Austin- major plus- good amount of seating for small place Crowd= there is always a line out the door. ALWAYS, but it moves fast- you will definitely see someone you know here. Definitely. Price= cheap as hell Service= the owners are the ones actually taking your order and making your tacos. soooo friendly Insider's tip= Tuesdays is brisket tacos. It's not on the menu. Thank me later. Shout out to the jalapeno ranch. Side items= get the disaster queso. You're welcome. Breakfast= bacon, egg and cheese taco is so good it's retarded. Bacon is super crispy, just like I like it. Negative= not open on Sundays, I guess everyone deserves 1 day off, but tell that to my hangover. me+ taco joint = love.

I found out about Taco Joint through word of mouth several months ago and don't know how I survived my Saturdays before then. The outside might appear a bit sketchy with its barred windows but you are quickly reassured when you see the full parking lot and a line backed up to the door. Any Saturday I am in town you'll find me inside with two sausage, egg, potato and cheese tacos drenched in tomatillo sauce and jalapeno ranch. For those skeptics who think ranch should not be served with breakfast -- prepare to eat your words (literally). One last note: I would recommend if you are not able to try this place on a weekday or before 9am on Saturday you might want to call your order in to go. Hope this helps!

i'd give this a 2.5 overall been here a couple of times. first time a few months ago got tacos and was quite disappointed, did not enjoy them. today went there for brunch and got breakfast burritos for me and the Gfriend. fajita beef, egg, potato, bean and cheese for me. it was not very flavorful. Woman had the same but chorizo instead of beef. this was decent and better than mine. prices are nice though.

So, yeah! I've been craving those damn brisket taco's since last Tuesday! How much sense does it make to only have them one day a week, though! LAME! The were so juicy and delicious. The meat itself was better than any other brisket tacos I've had. However, it was missing the fixins that you get at Taco Diner. The avocado slices were huge which would normally be a plus, but it just made my taco messy to eat. Overall, the brisket tacos we're yum, I just would change a few minor details. The beans were really dang good too! PS- It got crazy around noon- I'm talkin lines out tha do'!

Taco Joint is in my top 5 breakfast taco places in Dallas. I've had breakfast here several times and the quality and service are consistently good. I love the Migas Taco and the State Fair. The jalapeño ranch (they have a small condiment area) is addictive. I'm normally not too impressed by refried beans, but I can't say "no" to theirs. Decent coffee too!

Still the best! If I'm in town on Tuesdays, I'm eating lunch at the Taco Joint. I just can't explain to you how frickin' awesome the brisket tacos are. The two coolest things about going to the Taco Joint 1) Corey recognizes me when I get to the counter (impressively enough, he did after I had only been there once); 2) If you go on a Tuesday before noon, you're going to see at least 2-3 fellow Elite Yelpers there getting their mack on. I've yet to eat anything else on the menu, but I aim to fix that sometime in the next couple of weeks (but definitely not on a Tuesday).

Reader beware: This was the let down of the century for me. I have been waiting months to go try Taco Joint and took the opportunity today while I was in the area. From the previous reviews I was psyched to give it a try. I mean, all of these Yelpers can't be wrong?! Oh, and to top it off, someone else was paying so it was free, and free always tastes better. First thing first, why no brisket tacos? People talk about it below but when I asked the manager/cashier if he had them, he said "no, all we have is ground beef." I was sort of ok with that assuming there was something special about the beef. More on that later. (I have since learned that their best item is served once a week. How does that make any sense?) The Disaster was amazing. Queso, beef, pico and guacamole in a bowl with some chips... Can't beat that. Not sure it was worth the $4.99 for the size, but it was tasty. The tacos were... a joke. Let's do this in bullet form: - My soft flour tortillas were cold. How hard is it to put them on a flat grill or in a tortilla press to warm them up? - The ground meat had no flavor. No seasoning. It was boring. And what good taco joint only has ground beef and chicken? No shredded beef? No carnitas pork? No fish? Ground beef and chicken are the best you can do...? - The cheese was packaged yellow cheddar cheese. - The tomatoes were obviously packaged, pre-cut tomtaoes. - The lettuce was a joke. Packaged, pre-cut Iceberg. Iceberg is awful. No flavor. Is it too hard to get Romaine? - WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT JALAPENO RANCH?! You can get it at Chili's, at Chuy's, most grocery stores and you can make it at home easily. I don't get this. - The other salsas were boring, basic bought in mixes at best. As for the sides: - The rice was that translucent cheap Mexican food restaurant rice that had a tint of orange. Minimal to no flavor. - The beans were half way decent, refried with a bit of spice or some pepper in there. I REALLY wanted this to be great. I was beyond excited about going there. But I didn't even finish my tacos or my rice/beans. I am not the one to bash a place, and by 1 star I don't mean this was the worst place in the world, but I mean "Eh, methinks not so great" as described. Sorry Dallas Yelp, I am going against the grain. I might get some slack for this but I can ring off a dozen places that are better for tacos. Maybe I should try their breakfast...?

I just cannot get enough of Taco Joint...Tricia S. you have made me an addict!!!! My absolute favorite part of the whole experience is Corey...after three weeks since my last visit he STILL remembers my name prior to me handing over my debit card! Fantastic! Today we went for late breakfast/early lunch. I was not particularly in the mood for breakfast so I went with the fajita soft taco combo with one beef and one chicken and a side of fresh jalapenos. Firstly, my side of jalapenos was puny and left me with only about 3 jalapeno slices per taco :( Secondly, while the beef fajitas were tastey the chicken was pretty dried out/overcooked. Personally, the tacos had a little too much lettuce/tomato in them which spilled out all over the place with every bite. Still tasty though, but next time I think I will stick to breakfast tacos or try one of the massive burritos. I will continue to come back just so I can drool over Corey...sigh...

I finally got to try TJ's brisket tacos and these were pretty darned good! About 2 weeks ago I had Manny's brisket tacos and these were so much better. The seasoning in the brisket meat tasted pretty similar to my mom's braised short ribs. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the marinade has at least some soy sauce and garlic in it. Maybe we can get the rest of yelp to pool our keen gustatory senses and figure out their recipe for this brisket badassness! The brisket taco plate also came with lettuce, tomatoes, and avocados on the side, as well as your rice and beans staple. Since it was my first time trying out their brisket tacos, I wanted to try them normal. I didn't want to taint it with the different salsas just yet, maybe next time. I'm so glad that the Tuesday Lunch Bunch got there before I did and got a table because this place was BUSY! Expect to wait during peak hours. The wait will be worth it, trust me. PS. Erin M. I'm sorry I almost ran into you in the road. I heard Brisket Tacos and became instantly absent-minded about everything else. :-)

Gringo-mex menu, not real adventurous on the tacos. I had the "spicy" pork tacos and they were inedibly salty and the corn tortilla was stale. Partner had a veggie/bean taco that was also super salty and the whole wheat tortilla was the consistency of cardboard. Not in a rush to go back.

Great food and fun atmosphere. My only complaint is how busy they are, which I'm sure is a good thing for them. The breakfast tacos are great and the Disaster queso is the best at lunch. And they are P1's!

Usually the dive taco places are more authentic. This place is like a Tex mex taco dive. If you are looking for limes, cilantro, pico and that authentic tast, keep on looking. However, this place is a great deal, and the food is pretty darn yummy. I give it 3 stars because I really prefer authentic style, but if possible I would go 3.5

I would go for six stars if i could. my fiance and I went in this morning after not having been in two months and the owner Cory remembered our names!! I'd only been twice before that! I was amazed! This is just the type of place East Dallas needs. Good inexpensive food, locally owned, friendly service, and good coffee.

Everyone keeps talking about the Taco Joint. I went there the other day with my girlfriend. She had the special of the day, which was fried chicken tacos. I had the enchiladas. It was good. It was not the best TexMex I've ever had. This was far from the taco stand styled Tacos I get from Fuel City. I would have to say my specialty is tacos. I will drive a great distance to get a good taco. This was good, not great. The location is not set up to accommodate the crowds it is attracting. If you go, go early or late. I have heard that breakfast is better. I will get back to you once I've checked that out. The menu looked good.

It was Saturday afternoon and I was in desperate need of a pick-me-up. Taco Joint served it up. This I what I ordered: The Sophie (Grilled Veggie Medley Taco) - The bell peppers, onions, and zucchini had great sauté flavor to them. Had mushrooms but you couldn't taste them which was fine by me. I think this was my favorite of the day. It would be perfect if you scratched the mushrooms and added fajita beef. What can I say, I'm a carnivore. You can call it "The Mike" instead! Beef Fajita and Egg Breakfast Taco - This taco was so full of egg and meat I could barely close the tortilla. Thought the eggs were slightly on the dry side, but I added some salsa which made me forget about this. I would definitely order this again. Beef Fajita Soft Taco - This was disappointing compared to the first two, and I wish I didn't save this one for last to eat. The complaint isn't with the beef, which I had on the breakfast taco. However, it was the toppings that took away from this taco. When I think about fajitas, I'm all about sautéed peppers/onions and meat. This taco was filled with a quarter meat and three quarters lettuce, tomato, and cheese. This would've been much better if you forgot the lettuce and tomato and replaced them with the grilled onions and peppers from the Sophie. Keep the cheese! We also ordered the Disaster with chips, which is queso and adds pico, groud beef, and guac. What a great idea! Just think, 4 delicious items combined into 1. Amen. The line moved quickly which I was impressed with given we got there at 12:30pm in the heart of lunch traffic. Note: I hear breakfast time can be even more crowded. I got 3 tacos and a drink for almost $10, so price was reasonable. Parking can be tough, but we were lucky to find a spot up close. Thumbs up Taco Joint!

These are some of the best breakfast tacos I have found in Dallas---which says quite a bit since I hail from the breakfast taco capital of the world--Austin. Get two migas tacos. Heck, get three or four--you may not be able to move the rest of the day, but it will have been worth it.

  • Brandon B.

Got the breakfast tacos (one Miga Taco and another with sausage). Miga Taco was much better, the sausage one wasn't all that exciting. The salsa seems homemade and is quite tasty. They have 3 sauces which are all good. Seems like the word it out for sure, very crowded on a Saturday. I'll need to check out them out for lunch soon. Only open for breakfast and lunch until 2pm. I do need to get to Fuel City for bfast tacos to compare.

  • Chance T.

Good breakfast taco's, good hot sauce, and really dig the jalapeno ranch. Perfect place to go on a Saturday morning, hung over, and still wearing the same clothes from the night before. The only negative thing about this place so far is all of the people in there with workout clothes on. Really depressing if you've just woken up from an all night rager and looking for something to soak up the liquids. I guess I can deal with that though!! I'll definitely hit the Taco Joint up again!

Used to be that if you wanted an "eclectic" breakfast experience w/ good food, you went to Lucky's. Well, it was never really that eclectic and the food was never really that good. When you're walking into a place at Peak and Gaston and (as another yelper mentioned) it's next to Mo Better Kutz, you know you're on to something. The Taco Joint is both eclectic & good. The owner's did a good job of bringing some of the Austin funkiness up to unfunky Dallas. TJ is to breakfast tacos what the early to mid 80's was to Chevy Chase. Here's hoping that we don't ever have to experience the Taco Joint equivalent of the Chevy Chase Show... When you walk into the TJ, you can actually feel the chorizo. The place is very clean. I was welcomed at the door... with eye contact. I don't know if I've ever seen a better note on a menu than, "All our breakfast tacos come w/ cheese." After I ordered I was directed to the salsa bar. I was also given the opportunity to try the 5-chile salsa... So happy. The tacos came out great. Nice, fresh flour tortillas. Real eggs. The bacon and chorizo were both done well and flavorful. The salsas were incredible. I liked them all... I got lost in that 5-chile salsa. So perfectly balanced w/ heat and fresh pepper flavor. I have searched all over for good breakfast tacos. Fuel City... Los Lupes, all good stuff. But they just couldn't bring it all home. Taco Joint does it. Do yourself a favor, go this Saturday. By the time you get there, I'll have already come and gone w/ the ankle biters.

I visited the Joint today for the first time today. I got there around 11:40 AM and the line was about 5-6 deep. I noticed that as everybody ordered the person taking the orders (the owner I suspect) new everybody's name. After asking my name for the order he made sure to thank me a couple times for giving them a try. Guess is it didn't hurt I told him I found the place on Yelp. I decided to try the Thursday special: Fried Chicken Soft Taco Combo. $6.99 for 2 tacos, rice, beans and habenaro ranch sauce. I enjoyed the tacos; the rice was good; the refried bean were not as good as I hoped; and the habenaro sauce was great. Sounds like I need to stop back this coming Tuesday to try the brisket tacos.

JOY! Breakfast foods are my fave. And finally, a decent breakfast taco has come to town (Fuel City doesn't count as "in town" to me-- for no good reason. just seems far away). The bacon egg cheese taco was fine enough. But the "MT" or migas taco was yumwowagainplease on my first visit. Just ok on my 2nd. And the tacos are ginormous for the price (and considering it's tacos for gringos). Self-serve jalapeno ranch doesn't hurt the cause either.

So I went back for lunch thinking perhaps they just had a bad day when I was there. I really don't know how this place could be rated so high. Its like going to Pei Wei and calling Pei Wei authentic oriental food. To begin with when there are at least a dozen places that sell $.99 tacos which in my mind would be $ in the cost rating system, this place is nowhere close in price range. So I think is should be a $$. Overall, I think this is a very mediocre, americanized taco place. Probably won't go again.

Today was the first time I have had the breakfast tacos. I wish they were open on SUnday, but I get it. We ordered four different kinds and they were all good, but the Migas Taco was my absolute favorite. It was one of my favorite breakfast tacos I have ever tried. Based on some of the other reviews, I will be trying the fajita breakfast tacos. I am glad to have them in the neighborhood. The staff is very friendly. It would be nice if they served beer for weekend lunch.

After a long drunken night out in downtown DFW, stop by for some munchies...the TACOS here are the bomb. It will make most your hang over go away and ready for round two. Good taco breakfast hotspot

Great place and I really like the location. I don't have much more to say that other reviews haven't said. Really good, quality tacos in a chill and laid back environment. The Migas taco is where its at and I always get it whenever I go. Only complaint is that it's so far from my place. Their specialty tacos are fun and all their salsas are pretty good. Their jalapeno ranch is as good as everyone makes it out to be. Every time I head to Dallas, I always wonder if I will have time to hit the Taco Joint. Keep up the good work fellas

The spicy pork was boring and quite frankly tasted funny. The brisket tasted pretty good but it was dryer than most. I wish they were offered on flour tortillas. The tomatillo sauce tasted like soap. The rojo added nice flavor but all in all was a little bland. The jalepeno ranch is VERY tasty though! Very fast, even when busy. Pretty loud inside. The friendly service is the biggest plus aside from the ranch sauce. When I asked for no Pico on the pork I was informed the meat is cooked with onions. Very nice.

AWESOME place! It's not too far from my townhouse and I love eating here! I'm from Austin so anything that reminds me of that great city makes me smile. Everything from the staff to the sauces gets a 10 in my book. My mouth is watering just thinking about their food. The parking could be better but I won't hold that against the place. Don't be scared of the neighborhood - I promise you're safe. :-)

So - we had a client coming into the office today for a meeting. We wanted to get some breakfast tacos - so one of our co-workers suggested this place. First - let me start by saying that this is the first place in Dallas that I have EVER walked into and felt that I was back in Austin. The tacos were great. Cory, one of the co-owners rang me up - and he (like his staff) were completely friendly, prompt and efficient. The tacos really filled the spot. The only recommendation is that I would suggest asking for hotter salsa. (Oh - and if you have a chance, the jalapeño ranch is AWESOME!). I now know where I'm going from now on for good hang-over food on the weekends. Thanks, guys!

While I do like the Taco Joint, I have to admit that it really isn't anything special. The prices may be cheap, but it is always crowded at lunch time and hard to find a table, parking can be tough, there aren't many taco varieties and it's somewhat off the beaten path. The tacos are definitely good, but not nearly as savory as those from Rusty Taco or Fuel City. If you are in the downtown area and want a taco lunch place with seating, Taco Joint is your best bet because Fuel City has no seating and Rusty Taco is too far. One other piece of advice is don't go with a group of more than 4 because it will be pretty tough to get a table.

I've been frequenting Taco Joint for about a year now. I usually pop in around lunch rush and I'm amazed that they take the time to greet me by name. The menu is well thought out and there is something for every type of taste. Service is quick but they make you feel welcome without making you feel rushed. I've yet to order anything there I haven't liked. If i had to recommend any one item it would be the chicken fajita taco. I order all over the menu but always come back to that. I have a co-worker that swears by the chicken quesadillas. Parking can be a chore at lunch, but worth the trouble. If you are getting an order to go I highly suggest you call it in.

Great atmosphere, it was packed, great potatoes & bacon. The flour tortillas seemed store bought but still good. Wasn't blow away but will be back and looking forward to some if their lunch tacos. The guys behind the counter were extremly nice and really wanted feedback on what we thought. I would have loved to have seen a bottle of ketchup. A lot of people eat eggs with ketchup. I will be back!! Support local businesses!!

I honestly didn't eat here. I walked in, and after looking at the menu while waiting in line...decided to leave. The first thing I thought after walking in and taking a look around was, "I don't see anyone eating tacos." That should have clued me in. I'm not sure why they claim to be a taco joint. There were only a handful of taco options. The only meat option I could find was fajita beef. Nowhere on the menu did it speak of these magical brisket tacos other folks are raving about. This should be named the Mexican Food Joint...just call it what it is, folks.

Delicious Tex-Mex fare owned by 2 very nice men who have embraced Old East Dallas, and, in turn, been embraced right back. As a former Pres of a neighborhood association I can attest that these guys "give back" to the the community they serve w/o hesitation. Get there early on Saturday mornings or call in an order for pick up because the line often snakes out into the parking lot.

The man and I decided to stop here on the way to New Orleans. Best. Decision. EVER. We both got the Chuck Norris tacos--porky, bar-b-quey, cheddary goodness! "The only joint that CURES munchies." Damn straight!

5 Alarm burrito, disaster queso and jalapeno ranch?? Yes please! Despite being the worst meal healthwise, I threw caution to the wind and indulged in the cheesy, chorizo and egg tastiness and never looked back. The burrito is giant, thus we split it between the two of us (you can ask them to split them) and it was still too much! The place was crowded, but still pleasant. I wished it was open on Sunday so I could have gone one more time before my weekend in Dallas was up. Oh well. I would love to come back next time I'm in the area!

My husband had taste for some breakfast burritos so we decided to try this place out. It was ok. Not bad Tex-Mex breakfast. I had migas taco (Tortilla strips, Chile, Onion, Tomatoes, Serrano Peppers, Eggs and Cheese scrambled in Taco shell) $2.69. My husband had Big B (Beef Burrito with beans, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Cheese and Sour cream on the side) $5.74 Not bad, It could have been more flavorful I thought.

How hard is it to make a breakfast taco? Not hard at all but to make them over and over and over with a huge demand can be challenging. I think The Taco Joint does a good job and I never have to wait long when I'm there. Great spot to stop when your on the GO!

  • Chad S.

This place is unbelievable. It's a spin off of Austin's Taco Shack, though I think Taco Joint is much better. I get the Great Gordo with bacon (at Taco Shack, it's called The Burnet Road). This thing is a massive burrito with bacon, egg, cheese and potato. Every element of the taco was well thought out. The bacon is in pieces, not strips, which is a huge improvement on its Taco Shack brethren. The potatoes have a nice crispiness and the gobs of cheese top this thing off perfectly. Just make sure you have some time to take a nap after you devour this thing. Oh, and the staff is awesome. Corey the owner is a rock star, he typically remembers most of this customer's names and can pry a conversation out of the most quiet person.

The Taco Joint is the best in Dallas! The tortilla soup is awesome.Brisket tacos are yummy. Maybe the folks from San Anton and Austin have had better breakfast tacos at a down-home price but I can't find one better then "the Joint" for breakfast from south Dallas to north of McKinney.

Mmmm is the sound of me losing my taco joint virginity. After everyone recommending this place i'm bummed I waited so long to come here. I decided to go with the migas taco (thanks nikki) and also a bacon, egg, and potato taco. Yowza those things are stuffed so what we have here is a buttload of food and one stomach, so here goes. The migas taco was really good, nice blend of flavors. The bacon, egg, and potato was even better. As I peel back the foil...word up, the potato is not the usual boiled/baked stuff but a crispy cubed hash brown kinda potato. What even made it more awesome was that the Al Green song "Lets Stay Together" came on at that exact moment so as I beheld the glory I overheard " I'm....i'm so in love with you" Amen Al...amen. 4.5 stars and i'm too full to even consider rounding down:)

I've only been here once (so far) but I was impressed with the Wednesday special which was a sour cream and chicken enchilada that cane with a side of beans and rice... The price was right and the food enjoyable. I liked that they have pictures of what I assume are the customers up all over the walls. I'm glad I phoned my order in because there was a line almost out the door! I can't wait to go back :)

best. breakfast. taco. ever. i'm usually not a fan of breakfast tacos because of all restaurants stuff in too much scrambled eggs. blah! but not taco joint. taco joint gives you options. no eggs? no problem! not only that, but it was the fattest breakfast taco i've ever seen. i'm so glad i don't live close by. this would be dangerous. the coolest part is the staff. if they see you in there more than once they memorize your name and greet you. what old school service! i love it.

I won't add much more that hasn't already been said about this place. It is one of the best taco spots that I've been to in the city. Today's special was the Spicy Fried Chicken Taco and it was off the chain!! The breakfast tacos are also great. The eggs aren't rubbery and the bacon is crisp. For lunch, get their early and have a person with you who can gaurd a table.

I *so* wanted to hate this place, really I did. I only have so much room in my Burrito/Taco Rotation: Chipotle, Freebirds, and Fuzzy's are demanding mistresses and adding one more to my faux-Mexican harem could lead to a colonic disaster. Another reason I had the poison pen ready and waiting was because I initially went when they were closed . . . on two occasions. Once, I went right after 2pm after they had closed for lunch and I admitted, "Ok, my fault, I should've look 'em up first." But there were men inside still eating, looking at me though the window, mocking me. They were Manly Men having their way with their burrito - in public! - and seeing these men satisfying their urges with reckless affection filled me with jealousy. I regrouped and devised a better plan, which was to go on a Sunday morning when I knew I could get Taco Joint's undivided attention. Which is when they are closed. Again. Like Bush said, "fool me once, shame on -- [pauses] - shame on you. Fool me -- You can't get fooled again." I vowed then that Taco Joint would never again have the satisfaction of rejecting me! No more texts for her to ignore. No more un-returned phone calls. But like a part-time lover that is so good at That One Thing you're too embarrassed to ask anyone else to do, I went back again. I swallowed my sinful pride and opened myself up emotionally, but this time I made it in the door . . . only to stand in the slowest line ever. I mean, c'mon, you're shoveling freakin' eggs into tortillas. Pick it up. I'm not 18 anymore and can't last that long. Help me out a little bit. So as I was standing in line I was taking mental note of how many things I was going to have to find fault with my assuredly one-night taco stand. First, the hours are a joke. Breakfast and an occasional lunch only? And closed Sunday? No, I need my tacos at my beck and booty call. And like trying to unclip your first bra with one hand, the foreplay is soooo tedious and awkward. I waited longer than it took me to eat, so like losing your virginity to the Prom Queen on Homecoming, I just knew the bang-to-hype ratio was way over-rated. Also, it's not a dive even though it (and/or its patrons) want you to believe so. You lose all dive credibility when every other car is a Mercedes, Caddy SUV, or Lexus (there was even a Maserati). And no beer? I know it's mostly breakfast and lunch, but I do enjoy and good beer buzz early in the morning. Finally, I was certain they only received good reviews because they have a very low bar to hurdle in that gastronomic hell hole - there's simply no competition down there amongst gas stations and liquor stores. After I finally got my burrito (Five Alarm, if it matters) and jalapeno ranch (yes, Ranch goes with eggs), I dived in expecting an extra serving of "Meh." Dammit! My entire review that I had already written was thrown into the mental wastebasket and I had to start over! The chorizo was spicy and smoky, but not oozing orange grease. The tortilla tasted homemade. And yes, Colin B., the jalapeno Ranch is that amazing. Like a good strip tease, once I got a taste of what's to come, I knew I needed more, all the time, right now. I immediately got back up and made a bee-line to the self-serve Ranch tap. I grabbed a few little cups and I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I did jalapeno Ranch as shots as I huddled in the corner like Gollum. ("My precious Ranch.") And people were watching! But I didn't care. Some gave me the Knowing Nod. Others looked to me as an inspiration. I'm not proud of what I did, but like hooking up with the quiet fat girl, the exterior belies how good Taco Joint it really is. It's impressive how hard she'll try to satisfy your hedonistic gastronomic urges. I'd do it again. That s*it is good. Taco Joint is like a good lover whom you only get to enjoy occasionally, one who teases you with limited availability, making you wait among her literal stable of suitors, thus reminding you that you need her more than she needs you. You can easily be replaced. So while you wait you may think, "There are other lovers I could have, ones I don't have to chase. Someone who appreciates me!" You may start to resent Taco Joint for how you put up with her shenanigans, but you know deep inside that you want to be there and that you will come back for more. Eventually, when you're desperate, which will happen. It makes you feel dirty. But then your burrito pimp calls your name and you get to feel the soft, suppleness in your mouth, all shame is gone and you live in the moment, not knowing when the next will come.

Corey and the Taco Joint crew should be very proud of the business they've created. Not only do they have THE best breakfast tacos in town, but they have been curing hangovers for over a year now! Way to go guys, and keep em coming! Those migas tacos have a magical healing power... and teamed with an advil and some coffee, you've got yourself a cure for tequila shots and poor decisions from the night before. You should be given a medal. God Bless Taco Joint.

I am also obsessed with Taco Joint! Their Jalapeno Ranch sauce is amazing! Not only are their tacos great but the owners and employees are so nice and personable. I love going here because I always feel welcome and I can always count on a delicious Texas taco. BEST TACO IN DALLAS!

What an awesome place. Corey and Johnny run a fantastic restaurant. If all were like this the world would be a better place. I ordered 50 tacos for a business meeting which were ready as soon as I arrived (about 35 mins later). Above and beyond the great service at the counter I actually got a thank you phone call. Amazing food, amazing service. Taco Joint, you are a winner.

I have been stopping by Taco Joint occassionally for quick yummy chow for about a year and a half. I usually just grab breakfast tacos to go for the office, but have treated myself to dining in a couple of times. It has always been - mmm, mmm, good. I really like it inside. The chairs and bar stools are chrome with bright, glitter-infused vinyl seats and backs - four different colors at each table. Other than that, the decor is sparse. Black and white pics of family and friends line the top of the front wall. A board on the back wall gives you the menu. And gosh, these people are nice. What better way to build a loyal clientele that to be super nice and get to know your customers? Serve great food, you say? Check. My migas plate - migas, good beans and good potatoes - was plentiful and yummy for $5. Good and cheap - what a combo. (My days of craving the more expensive vegetarian tacos at Cafe Brazil are over.) There is a great assortment of combos available for your breakfast tacos. There is a salsa bar with green and red as well as jalapeno ranch. Love the verde - plenty of garlic. And the music was perfect - Stevie Ray followed by Talking Heads - that's very good stuff. The owner even brought be a newspaper to read the first time I visited. I have only been for lunch a couple of times. The enchiladas didn't wow me, but they were fine. The Evan taco (vegetarian) is delicious, as are the old school crispy tacos. The beef is seasoned perfectly - flavorful, but not too salty or "packaged" tasting. Not open for dinner or on Sunday. Check it out.

I was first drawn in by the always entertaining and ever changing sign out front. Immediately felt very welcome, it's obvious that this place has many devoted customers as the cashier (and I imagine the owner as well) knew by name almost everyone who came in. He was very helpful since it was my first time and some of the regulars also chimed in! I had the Migas taco (breakfast menu). It was good, not the best I have ever had, but the sauces were really good and complimented it well. I can't wait to try it for lunch sometime.

Hands down my favorite tacos in Dallas. Fresh ingredients, cheap prices, and wonderfully friendly staff. My only complaint? Not open on Sundays, or after 2pm. I need more tacos! :)

Great tacos, staff is super friendly. Wish it was closer.

I don't think there is anywhere like this in Dallas. Taco Joint seems like a transplant from Austin and the go-to place if you are looking for great breakfast tacos (at a really good price). The owners work behind the counter and are as friendly as can be - they have great relationships with their clientele (and seem to have developed quite a following). I haven't had lunch/dinner food there (yet!), but I will definitely be back. And they have great queso!

First off Let me say...I love tacos. This place has a great one. The meat is flavorful, and the jalepeno ranch is out of control awesome. I'm not a ground beef fan, so I usually stick to the fajitas. The queso is amazing, and I'm still going back to try more items. The guys that run this place are super nice and know what customer service really means. They remembered my name after walking in there only for the 2nd time. That's impressive. Things that I would like to see improved would be the watery tomato salsa. It's good I just prefer mine thicker. Good Job guys!

I love the atmosphere of this place; it feels like a taco shop from Austin. The breakfast tacos are awesome and the lunch menu is very reasonably priced.

Can't get enough of this place. Love the Disaster, the Evan, the Fajita Soft Tacos and the Jalepeno Ranch. Also love that they have Diet Dr. Pepper "on tap". Cory (owner) will remember your name every time and always makes you feel at home.

I love this place! It feels like a piece of Austin, laid-back & friendly with great food. I've only been twice and I've only had the brisket tacos but they are delicious (well seasoned salty/sweet/spicy tender brisket perfectly proportioned in two warm and chewy corn tortillas. I always order a side of cilantro and onion b/c that's how I like to eat my tacos but if you're a tomato & lettuce person you get that for free. I'd go back every Tuesday if I could, for $6.99 you get lunch and a drink its one of the best deals in town.

Haven't had a chance to eat lunch here yet but the breakfast is awesome! Ive picked up the Gaston Grab 3 or 4 times for clients and they have always been impressed. Also the migas taco is awesome! The salsa could be a little more spicy but they will chop up some fresh serranos if you want to kick it up a notch. Also the beans have a great flavor to them and all their BT's come with cheese!!

yummy yummy in my tummy. i've dined here 3 times in the last two weeks. The breakfast tacos are to die for. Really. I think I seriously would...oh, but wait, then I couldn't eat any more.... I am a breakfast taco whore and finding a simply good one is hard to find. So finding an AMAZING one has made me a whore for the Taco Joint. I think my fav is the egg, cheese and black bean..mmmmmm. Two kinds of shredded cheeses all melted into perfectly scrambled eggs and a warm soft tortilla is the base for all of their breakfast tacos. Then add what you want from their list of ingredients:: chorizo, bacon, potatoes, black beans, and others i'm forgetting... but i DON'T forget the self serve salsa bar featuring tomatillo and rojo salsas AND jalapeno ranch! So. Good. And the staff is awesome. I took my daughter there before school one day for breakfast... and ended up going back at lunchtime with my mom. They remembered me from that morning..(EVEN my name!) and gave us free chips and salsa calling me the customer of the day! LOL!! Speaking of lunch..I had an Evan and a Lester. One vegetarian and one chicken fajita. Both were fabulous dahling. This is a definite "must try" place on my list. So go and become a whore like me.

Went on Sunday to have breakfast tacos on our way to the fair, and they are closed on Sundays. Boo Hoo! Had to settle for b'fast tacos at the fair. Fair food is good but not as good as these babies! Still craving those awesome tacos, until we meet again. . .

Taco Joint has officially taken the top spot when it comes to my favorite gringotex taco joint. I stopped in recently on a random whim and picked up a Big Tex. For the five bucks I spent on it, I got more than I expected. This bad boy was loaded with fajita steak, potatoes, peppers and egg, which kept me full for most of the day. I havent had a chance to check out lunch yet, but I'll be headed back. I gave the restaurant a 4 (since you cant 1/2 star)only due to the fact of its hours, I understand the neighborhood where its located (peak/swiss)can get rough in the evenings. Else wise, its a excellent place and a great bargain

Best breakfast taco I've found in Dallas. I usually get a migas taco and add the jalapeno ranch sauce. One is enough, they're not small. Wear a hawaiian shirt on Friday morning and you'll get a free drink, it's Magnum PI Appreciation Day? Think so.

I know I've already written two reviews on this place, but I just wanted to thank TJ for curing my hangover on Saturday (no thanks for that, Slip Inn!) I went in a wreck, waited in the long line, got my breakfast taco, and hallelujah, I was all better by the time my taco was gone!! Plus they still remember me, even when I'm unable to order for myself :)

I got a chance to try this place out today, and I'm quite happy I did! I just happened to go on Brisket Taco day, and that made me even happier!!! We arrived around 11:20am, and that worked out pretty well. There was a line, but it definitely built after we got our order in. The gentleman taking the order hinted that we hit it about the right time. I mentioned I was a rookie and he asked where I heard about them (Yelp) and thanked me two or three times for giving them a try...that was a nice touch. Everyone that was working seemed quite friendly, as a matter of fact. On to more important things...the brisket tacos were tasty! I generally prefer flour to corn tortillas when it comes to soft tacos, but these were quite good. I liked their Salsa Rojo for flavor and the Tomatilla for a little extra kick...I tried each of them on the tacos and decided that using both is the way to go. The rice and beans were good, as well. And the lunch special is pretty stoopid cheap, so the bang for your buck is definitely there. And here are a couple of tips that you may or may not find useful: the middle table on the second row from the back (where the mural is) should be known as 'la tabla frio' - it is in the freakin' jet stream and it really is cold there; and when you are eating your taco, hold it so any juices that escape run into your rice/beans cup. Trust me, while it isn't a huge thing, it makes a nice, noticable difference. I have two regrets...I truly wish that I could try their breakfast tacos, but it is really too far from work for a breakfast run and way too far from home to check them out. And I completely forgot to try the queso this time around. I will return for lunch again, however, and next time I will remember!

Congrats to TJ for making this month's hottest on Yelp. I go there at least once a week because it's inexpensive, delicious, staff are super nice and not bad for the waistline. Anyone in the loop should go at least once ... after the one time, you are sure to return.

OMG, I'm going to Yelp Hell. Forgive me father because I'm about to commit the ultimate sin and give the glorious Taco joint a so-so review. I've been here a twice and haven't been that impressed. I had the Migas plate today, and everything on it was cold. At least the tortillas were warm. I guess I shouldn't expect much for 5 bucks, but I've heard these were the best in town. They were not. Last time I tried the 5 alarm breakfast taco. It was mostly beans with a little eggs and meat. It came with taco sauce all ready on it so I guess that made it 5 alarm. Is it because this place reminds everyone of Austin and Dallas' love affair with it (more blastphamy); or is it because all the hipsters go here. The lady at the next table had horned-rim glasses and her jeans tucked into her cowboy boots. That's hip, isn't it? I guess I should confess now that I'm not crazy about Fuel City either. Maybe if I do five hail Mary's and....

Stopped in for lunch today and was blown away by the tacos. I had the brisket tacos that were the lunch special (available only on Tuesdays), delicious! The brisket was amazing, better then Mia's (which I love). If you are looking for a new lunch spot this is it. Some of the best tacos in Dallas, I will definitely be going back.

Two words: cheap, bland. This is white people's Mexican food a la Cafe Zuzu, without much spice or flavor. Admittedly, I have only had the beef tacos and the fajita (chicken and beef) tacos before, but I really wish there was more flavor and spice. The salsas (tomatillo, red and some kind of ranch) are out of pumps and, while not bad, are not good enough to make up for the tacos. I would expect a better load of options for fixings, especially just some lime, cilantro and onions and maybe some fresh made salsa. Also, right now there's a lot of buzz about this place (for whatever reason) and getting through the long line (especially on a weekend morning) is really just more hassle then it's worth. On the plus side, it is extremely reasonable -- lunch specials run $5.99 for two fajita tacos, rice & beans, and a drink. The owners are usually working and they are very friendly. And I've heard as far as breakfast tacos go this is a great place, but I'll have to put that to the test some other time. Overall, just not that good.

Yet again, fabulous! Went here yesterday for lunch with my husband (who had only tried the brunch menu so far). As always, I got the Lester taco with a side of rice & beans - the perfect amount of food for lunch. The Lester is the taco I mentioned in a previous review but couldn't think of the name - it's like the double decker from Taco Bell, only good! Soft flour tortilla with beans spread onto it, wrapped around a crispy beef taco. YUM, you must try it! Jeff was also a fan. Next time I vow to branch out and try the fajita tacos, as I've heard they rock!

I love this place so hard!! I am a vegetarian taco orderer. They have amazing veggie tacos/burritos, and their migas tacos are seriously slap yer mama deeelish. I went outside of the usual to try out a more simple egg and potato taco, and was not disappointed.. yet I will personally stand by those MTs until the end of time. The two hot sauce options are pretty great. Service is always quick and incredibly friendly despite the lines of people demanding savory tacos. Just stepping into this place makes me happier.

The most friendly service I have had in a long time. Very nice to have KGSR piped in giving it that Austin flair. Excellent decor, and at the time we went during the week, not busy at all so service was fast. Food was plentiful and fairly priced. So why not five stars? Growing up Mexican, I can safely say I have had better both at home and in other restaurants in the Southwest from Arizona to Texas. The beans' flavor was pallid, the potatoes slightly stale, and it would have been nice to have a little toast on the tortillas (griddle/comal what have you). I would have given two to three stars had the service not been the best. All easy fixes

Just finished two Migas Tacos for breakfast---fantastic. Add some tomatillo salsa on that, and you're in heaven. There was quite a line when I pulled in, but it moved quickly (you can always call ahead if you're really in a rush). Glad to see such a great spot in this part of town.

Today for lunch, my fiance and I finally tried Taco Joint for the first time! We first heard about it through his kids, they would stop there after school on their way home. And ever time we passed through the area, it was always bouncing with people, I knew we had to try it. I love Mexican food, and I'm Mexican, so I grew up on it at home everyday....and I have a few favorite hole in the walls around Dallas, and would travel to the other side of town just to get a good taco when I didn't feel like making it myself. And today I couldn't believe what I have been missing, lol. I love your Crispy Tacos, and I normally don't like crispy, I usually get flour, but these ROCKED! And the 'tomatillo&jalepeno ranch sauces' oh man, nice, very nice! Atmosphere was fab, the guy who took our order was very nice and friendly, asked us if it was our first time and how we heard of them. Place was clean, and plenty of room to sit, I haven't tried breakfast yet, but I do see it in the near future:)

Little on the pricey side for mexican food. I ordered a Migas Burrito (not on the menu) with an iced tea came out to be around 8 dollars. By far not the best but good. I was expecting authentic mexican but its more americanized. I did enjoy the Jalapeño Ranch sauce. Its worth a shot :)

Either the owners are managing a remarkably good advertising campaign by having all of their friends write rave reviews about this place or it's being frequented by a bunch of yankee transplants that don't have a clue about good Tex-Mex or Mex-Mex. Don't get me wrong, this place isn't bad but it certainly isn't 4 or 5 stars. I went on a Saturday. It's located in an old run down strip center which is fine for a taco shop. AC wasn't working very well when I was there ...which is ok to for a taco shop too. I was really surprised by the limited menu. I had thought there would be more of a Mex-Mex offering in regards to tacos. So I get a combo of soft and hard tacos. Ok but nothing special. Just regular Tex-Mex tacos like you'd get at any of a 100 Tex-Mex restaurants across DFW. To be fair, I didn't get to try the brisket tacos that every raves about but geesh ..they're only offered one day a week. So..three stars..just ok. It's not nearly as good as Fuzzy's Tacos in Ft. Worth who I'd give 4 stars and would be somewhat similar in format. I would go to the Taco Joint again if I was in the neighborhood and would definitely like to try the Brisket tacos...but I wasn't impressed enough on my first visit to go out of my way on my next . And for you yankee transplants giving this place 5 stars...you may want to consider spending some time down on Jefferson in Oak Cliff acclimating and trying out the local fare before you start posting reviews on Taco joints.

Two words: Jalapeno Ranch. I tried the Evan and the Sophie (both fabulous vegetarian additions to the menu) and was wowed by the quality in both taste and texture. The Sophie (potato, squash, mushroom, and bell pepper) was not overcooked, as can definitely be the case, and on its own would have garnered rave reviews from me. But then I took a bite of the Evan (black beans, guac, salad mix and cheese) with a proper dousing of Jalapeno Ranch from the salsa bar -- amazing! Even my boyfriend who is more the meat eater type says he's coming back for that taco in particular...with the jalapeno ranch. I just hope these guys can make it. I don't frequently eat lunch early, so I'm not sure my taco-eating habits alone can make it happen.

I like the Taco Joint. It's on my way to work, I come in so much they know my name and their tacos are pretty kick-azz. I recommend the sausage/egg/cheese breakfast taco with an extra large side of Salsa Rojo. If I could change a couple of things, I'd like a couple new salsas and I wish they made their own flour tortillas like Casa Galaviz in Denton (now them's good eating). Come and get ya some tacos at Taco Joint!

  • Mary N.

i want so badly for these guys to succeed. a breakfast/lunch only place in that hood, though, might not. it's not close enough to greenville to stay open 24 hours like tacos y mas, which makes it less convenient, but they have indoor seating. the owners are very nice and will introduce themselves and remember your name and face. that's nice. the food was good. i got the bacon/egg tacos with beans and little potato things. i'll head back and try the lunch. they had a few things that piqued my interest.

  • Ryan L.

I had the MT (migas taco) and a regular ol' beef soft taco. The MT was pretty damn good. The soft taco was good, but it's pretty hard to screw up ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. The salsas are tasty and not too spicy. I was expecting a bit more in the way of "interesting" tacos since it's the TACO Joint after all, but they keep it pretty simple. I didn't see the need to try the burritos, enchiladas, etc. since, again, it's for tacos. It's in a bit of a shady neighborhood, so don't bother going if you're not prepared for some interesting folks at the hair salon and lavanderia next door.

Okay so everyone's had the tuesday brisket. I will never be able to come here on a Tuesday (yes woa is me) but I WAS able to make it on a Friday. I had the grilled fish tacos. Honestly, I love when restaurants can prepare food and not make it so oily. And Taco Joint gave me this satisfaction. They were good, not the best thing in the world, but the food is decent. I feel as if all the sides are decent. The salsa bar is decent. I get the feeling the brisket tacos are beautiful and everything else is just okay. I will never know!

Once upon a time, I was young naive Yelper who didn't fully comprehend the awesomeness of the tacos that come out of the Taco Joint. But after a very wise decision, I returned to the land of the taco. Now as a seasoned Yelper (who just happened to have ran 14 miles prior to said trip to TJ), I can see clearly...and eat tacos dammit! After my long run up at White Rock, I stopped in at a friend's place in Lakewood to shower and show him the ways of Dallas brunching and lunching. Luckily, the decision of where to start was easy. He is mere minutes from the Taco Joint. We got there just before the line got too long (don't think you won't be waiting after 11:00) and our breakfast tacos were ready in such short time. In addition to the "bad-ass" ice and Diet DP, the Migas Taco was tasty and even better with jalapeño ranch. My own veggie potato, cheese, and black bean taco concoction was HUGE and hit the after-run spot. Friend, who moved here from Austin btw (what a crazy), was impressed and incredibly excited that TJ is so close by. Sorry, TJ. I'm sorry I ever doubted your awesomeness. I'll be eating your breakfast tacos some more now. Love me too? K, thank, bai.

Pretty good tacos. I'm a fan of the regular taco meat tacos. The guacamole is also good. The line can get out the door pretty regularly especially on Tuesdays and Fridays (specials days). It is only open until 2pm.

This place is a Dallas landmark that gets better and better every time I go!!! My boss was the first person that told me about this place. Now, my coworkers and I eat there at least twice a week. Actually, I think I'll go there for lunch right now. Damn, no I won't. They're not open on Sundays! :(

Delicious tacos, especially the bean and cheese. The best part -- the salsa "bar" -- red and green salsas and jalapeno ranch. Plus everyone is really friendly, and they support KXT. Good food, good people.

Maybe there is something better than a cup of queso handed to you on a Saturday morning by a guy dressed in Johnny's karate gi from the Cobra Kai dojo, but I haven't seen it. This is a regular spot for me on Saturday's--all of the breakfast tacos are good, but I usually end up with chorizo, egg, and black bean, covered in the jalapeno ranch sauce. The disaster queso is pretty decent too, although the chips are just a bit fragile for it. I strictly stick with breakfast here, so if you are looking for lunch, I can't be as sure.

After reading all of the great reviews on this joint, I made a trip over for lunch and let me just say that I was not disappointed. I liked pretty much everything about this place; the food, service, and atmosphere were all great. The first thing I noticed when I pulled up was that there were a few police cars parked in the ample sized lot, this is usually a pretty decent indicator of the tastiness of the food inside. I was greeted by a friendly guy behind the register and placed my order of crispy tacos. While waiting for my food I took my cup to the drink machine and was pleasantly surprised to find that they have the good ice, you know what I'm talking about, the little nuggets that are fun to eat... Anyway I get my food and start to eat and it is fantastic! The tacos are superb, great crispy shell filled with wonderfully seasoned ground sirloin, topped with cool, crisp shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and shredded monterrey jack cheese. The combo also included a side of rice and beans which comes in a little bowl so you can mix it all together, it was also very well seasoned and makes a great side to the tacos. Overall this place is great and it is definitely worth making a trip, I know that I will be coming back.

  • Weston B.

Pardon me, but this place makes me angry. A lot of the reviews I have seen seem to revolve around the atmosphere instead of the quality of the food. Personally, I don't like the atmosphere or the food. Put on your plaid shorts, stressed A&F hat and let's go see our fellow UT alumni. People might think this place serves authentic mexican food because it is in a faux ghetto neighborhood, but those people would be confused. There are minorities in this gentrified area, the food must be good! You can find twenty better mexican restaurants within a two mile radius. I ordered the soft taco combo which came with chips, rice, and beans. There were three choices of salsas so I got a little bit of each. Having this kind of salsa bar reminded me of Taco Cabana, which could not have been more appropriate. The red salsa is watery and tasteless. What would you expect from a salsa pumped out of one of those pumping contraptions? I don't think this place was even better than Taco Cabana. The tortillas tasted store bought, cheese out of a bag of kraft shredded cheese, and the ground beef was simply there. The rice and beans were bland and finishing them turned out to be a task for me. The only two things I enjoyed about this place were the jalapeno ranch sauce and the polite man whom I can only assume is the owner.

  • Karen S.

I have since learned that their salsa is homemade. My bad but that's why I'm posting this update. I also had the disaster and its so good! Perfect for a Saturday at lunch when you may have imbibed a bit too much the night before. I also tried the Lester. Good stuff! Breakfast tacos rock!!! (they are served until 2pm on Saturdays btw) I haven't had one I didn't love. Also, they have this nice name recognition thing there... it adds a nice neighborhood joint touch to it., like Cheers. "Thanks for stopping by Karen. Did you enjoy everything?" Awesome.

Great place. Great team. Great food. and Great customer service. I have gone multiple times. Always really enjoyable. Only downside - not open on Sunday - but everybody needs a break! On a rare occasion, something didn't come out right and there was a bit of a wait, management took care of it immediately and on their own. This is one of my favorite spots.

Been coming here for years, since our office is near Fair Park. The food is good, especially the Chuck, which is pulled pork with a spicy sauce in a flour tortilla. The chicken fajita soft tacos (the clyde) are not bad, but not the best in town, so I'd go for something more unique. The queso is addicting, but the chips are too greasy and thin, for my taste, to be considered awesome. The issues: It's not their fault, but they always seem to have a line, and it's sometimes hard to secure a table after you've ordered. So if you come with a large group, good luck to you ;)

"Easy , Good price & Tasty" When I visit Dallas Fair Park I stop by this Taco Store at lunch time. And it was many customers over there. But it was very smooth to get my Taco. And taste was very nice. Off course you can to go or eat there. So I would like get there again when I go to Dallas next time. Arigatou : )

Just Ok tacos, but nothing near to the quality of Torchy's Tacos. And if you've been there, you'll know what I mean. Nice staff at this place, and interesting menu, but seriously, you guys need to checkout your competitors a bit more often.

Came in because of all of the great reviews. Food was good. Service was fast. Decor was simple. I had a fajita burrito and even though it didn't "fill" me up it did hit the spot. I thought the portions were going to be bigger. Over all not a bad place to enjoy a meal. I went in around 11 so the place was pretty empty but they were getting pretty busy around lunch time.

I go here for breakfast only. And it's a winner. Their potatoes are so good! The Gaston Grab is a great value for $11.99, which gets you 3 bacon, egg and cheese tacos along with 3 egg, potato and cheese tacos. No substitutions.

my grandfather eats here every day. literally (other than weekends). he loves their salads and it's the first diet he's stuck to for more than a week since i've been alive. one of their keys to success is that they have these healthy choices available as well as indulgent options, so inviting a group is easy. going there regularly with him, i've noticed the mark of any good establishment, lots of repeat customers. it has an inviting and friendly atmosphere while the manager always has some good music, at an appropriate volume, playing in the background. they have some decently hot salsas available behind the counter if you ask. all of the staff is friendly and the owner is a great guy. there's a reason they've gone from one location to four in just a couple of years. check it oot.

    (5)

So many options but I have only really had the breakfast tacos. My favorite is the potato egg and cheese with the can't miss jalapeño ranch dip. Confession: I get one container per taco. The guys behind the counter are really nice. It's one of our favorite weekend activities!

Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! If you are ready to wreck your diet and eat some delicious TexMex this is your place. Do not let the location fool you this place is clean and has a fun vibe. Crowded at lunch time, but I have always managed to find a seat. They are quick in getting orders out as well. Cant wait to go back! My favorite: The Disaster! Try it...you wont be disappointed.

  • Helena K.

The disaster queso had a real fresh taste of to it. Not to rich or heavy. If you order Togo, get the guacamole and Pico on the side, so you can warm up the cheese later. The break taco are a perfect size. Not small but not a burrito size. The bacon is spot-on. Crisp , smoking and just right. There is parking space but not a huge parking lot. The place looks clean. People were nice. The place is definitely in the ghetto but it's not too bad. I would return to this place.

Taco Joint is amazing. My numero uno place to go if I crave for taco. I have several categories in my book for different kind of restaurants and Taco Joint is number one for Taco category. I have tried several other Taco places and no one beat Taco Joint yet. My only complain is long line and short hours for this place but you can go to the one in Mockingbird or Belt Line for longer hours therefore five stars granted. Gracias.

This is one of my all time favorite places. I've personally only ordered the breakfast tacos, but when I've been with others they've ordered the meals and have always had more than enough to eat. The serving sizes are huge! 2 tacos is plenty for breakfast. (But go ahead and order the queso, because queso.) Also, they have a jalapeno ranch that is next level. Only downside is after a Saturday night of imbibing too much, tacos are all I ever want...and this location is closed on Sundays. However the Lakewood location is open, it's just typically more crowded. Parking is limited so if you're going with a group, carpool.

I am notoriously picky about my breakfast tacos and I've been searching for an amazing breakfast taco place since moving to Dallas. I've finally found it! Taco joint is amazing. Their regular tacos are great too. And they have fantastic queso. AND it's cheap. And and and...seriously just go as soon as you can. Go!

Yu H. Mentioned in his review just how amazing the creamy jalapeño sauce was. The Gordo burritos he raved about were also enticing. I've got a breakfast burrito vegetarian style for the past couple mornings and haven't been disappointed. Great staff and they help you customize your order a lot. Thanks Yu. I hope you're getting plenty of those burritos after your nights at the hospital.

  • Dan S.

4.5 stars for me. Love this place. Is it just me or did the burritos used to be a bit bigger. The steak is so flavorful it makes me drool. Only thing I have a grip with is the mixing of ingredients in the burrito. Just me but I think the chorizo and eggs should be mixed instead of being separate. Either way amazing food!!!

Tacos are good but there's nothing that makes me go "wow." Just your typical taco joint leaning a little more towards the Mex side of the Tex-Mex scale. There seems I be a lot of hype around the disaster queso and bfast tacos so I'll have to go back and give them another chance.

I'm on a quest, dear reader, a noble quest indeed. Since moving to Dallas in January I've tried to get a grip on my go-to spots as a foodie, and have had great success with a lot of the essentials (BBQ, Sandwiches, Tacos, Pizza, etc.) However, what I have yet to find is my staple for a good, cheap breakfast burrito. I've tried Burrito Jimmy ( yelp.com/user_local_phot… ) and San Diego Tacos Shop ( yelp.com/user_local_phot… ), both of which were good but nothing worth writing home about really. Hearing the hype around The Taco Joint? It was time to give it a go. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? As others have touched on, the service and atmosphere at The Taco Joint are a big selling point. The kitchen and seating area are wide open spaces, and the friendly mcfriendlyson staff compliment prep times that are Usain Bolt status. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Finally, someone who understands that breakfast burritos don't need to be priced at a premium! Honest to god we're looking at a tortilla, eggs, a breakfast meat, cheese and potatoes. Outside of the meat, these are literally the cheapest possible items you can buy in a grocery store, and it ain't fancy folks. With all this in mind, I was seriously beyond stoked that for just over $6.00 post-tax I got this MONSTER: yelp.com/user_local_phot… Holy schnikies batman say what? Yeah, The Big Tex is the real deal, and you're talking two meals easily. Those are fantastic prices. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Again, it's hard to mess up a breakfast burrito, but it's equally hard to knock it out of the park. This was good stuff, with a fair combination and ratio of cheese, meat, potatoes, etc., and added jalapeno ranch that was out of this world. Having said that, it was really just a sum of it's parts, and it wasn't really blended to the point where it was unlike eating each of the ingredients individually. Even when I mixed it up a bit, I would still end up with a mouthful or two of eggs (which were pretty plain). A high point without a doubt was the fajita beef that they used. Honest to god I don't know how they season it, but it was among the best breakfast meats I've had. Overall? A good burrito. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Not the best breakfast burrito I've ever had, and not quite enough to claim the throne as my go-to dallas breakfast spot, but amazing service, amazing prices, and good food are enough to have me coming back daily. Star Granted.

A little sketch on the outside but completely legit taco joint! Definitely has more character than your typical Dallas restaurant! The migas taco was delicious - a must! Breakfast fajita taco is a bit dry.

Love me some Taco Joint. If this location would start serving breakfast tacos all day and have a bar like the mockingbird location, it'd easily be 5+ stars. A lot of times I end up going to the other location to appease my weird-timing craving for breakfast tacos and a generously poured mimosa, but this location does the trick if you time it right and don't need the bubbly like us basic white girls do.

my taco was pretty good but not great. however, the disaster was fabulous as usual. god i love that queso/guacamole thing. i'll come back and try something else, maybe the breakfast tacos, etc.

Breakfast tacos! Yum. The food here is prepared well, it's not overpriced, and just what we were looking for. My favorite made to order taco included eggs, chorizo, refried beans and potatoes. For folks like me who grew up eating Mexican food, I found the breakfast tacos incredibly comforting and a bit like home. Delicious. Oh! And the jalapeño ranch. So good.

Love. Love. Love this place! I had the Evan taco and two bean and cheese tacos and could not eat them fast enough. The service was friendly and fast, the dining area was clean, and the food was amazing. I have heard it can be completely packed during lunch hour, but believe me, it is worth the wait. My special fella had the pork taco special and raved about it. I'm a big fan of the two salsa options and jalapeno ranch sauce as well. Also worth mentioning, we had zero trouble parking (again, this wasn't a crazy-busy work day at lunch time) and the wait time from ordering to picking up our food was less than five minutes. I took one of the bean and cheese tacos home (they really load you up with refried beans!) and had it the next day re-heated for lunch. It was basically as good the next day as it was fresh. We will certainly be back. Highly recommend!

I have a bean and cheese taco addiction and Taco Joint is my only fix.

  • Brooke G.

The tacos from this joint are fabulous, always--and I found that the food at this location, instead of the one in Lakewood, is tastier and more consistent. My go to taco is the Bacon, egg, and refried bean on wheat tortillas and I absolutely LOVE the flavor and ratio of ingredients included in a taco. Some other taco joints will load you up with tons of egg and none of the other good stuff, but that isn't the case here. I always have more bacon than I bargained for and the refried beans are delightful. I'll be back soon for my next breakfast taco fix.

    (5)
  • Grant D.

Wait. Is this some kind of small, "in the know"-only joint? Maybe. I only go for breakfast tacos or burritos. ... which are pretty dang tasty and chocked full of fixins. An "anything goes" crowd, so what are you waiting for?

  • Jay R.

I've had the pleasure of munching down on lovingly prepared tacos. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. It's very artificial, synthetic, fake, phony, what-have-you. Simply that this place is not authentic. It plays the game as if it's customers were the Thimble in a game of Monopoly.

I love this place because it's right next to my workplace and there's nothing better than a Big Gordo breakfast burrito after a long night on call. It's huge and filled with awesome ingredients. The chorizo has awesome seasoning on it and it's just a really hearty meal to start or end the day with. Their lunch tacos are all really good too but the breakfast burritos are why this place is awesome. P.S. Their jalapeno ranch sauce is to die for and I could put it on just about anything I eat. I wish I could buy a bucket of it!

If you're looking for great breakfast tacos this is the place for you! I always get 2 Miga tacos and they are mighty delicious! Quick counter service and everyone there is very friendly. Corey one the owners is very hands on and always remembers his regulars. For lunch I recommend the crispy beef tacos with the jalapeño ranch poured over the top of them. Only open for breakfast and lunch and no alcohol served at this location. Prices are good and parking is easy. Nice little hole in the wall joint for tacos!!!

  • Charles C.

Taco Joint has tacos that taste great, the service is legit, and I'll come back when in the neighborhood. Pros include quality and variety of tacos, crushed ice, and the jalapeño ranch sauces. I do think the tacos could be a bit bigger for the price. An $8.69 combo leaves me satisfied but I could be a bit more so.

Best breakfast tacos in town. The staff is super friendly. Best breakfast after a long night out.

How eclectic! The dodgy but historic neighborhood, a rundown looking diner filled with frat boys, and white people tacos that couldn't taste better, all in a super popular restaurant with a paradoxical 2pm closing time. The place was packed, and it wasn't even 10am. But it's order at the counter and wait time was still zilch. 15 minutes later I was eating a delicious breakfast taco smothered in all three of TJ's homemade salsas.

The closest joint (see what I did there?) to Taco Deli I have found in Dallas. Taco Deli is my favorite taco in Austin and I have been searching for a replacement. Well, I've found it. Sure they don't have dona sauce (come on, re-create it!), but they do have a tasty jalapeno ranch and a sweet tomatillo salsa. Their queso is cheesy and delicious while their tacos are well executed with big and bold flavors. They also have a spicy queso with a nice kick to it. The reason for five stars is because of the service, which went above and beyond what most do to accommodate to my wife who happens to have a gluten intolerance. Great tacos and great service.

Awesome service! We couldn't decide what to order and the cashier was extremely helpful, laid back, and not at all bothered by us taking our time.

  • Phillip B.

Typical Tex-Mex joint that steps it up on size. Not so much on how big the taco is, but, more on the size of the burrito they're packing. A good package that delivers. I wasn't impressed with the breakfast tacos nor my burrito. However, I think they deliver with the ground beef hard shell tacos. For a tex-mex joint it is just ok. The only step up on most other joints is the size. Bigger is always better, right? Like they say "Every things bigger in Dallas".

  • Abelardo B.

Taco joint was excellent casual food. I had the migas taco and the fajita and egg taco. My wife had received beans and crispy bacon taco. We got there after their "breakfast" hours, but it was no problem AT ALL. The cashier took the order without even mentioning it. My wife special requested crispy bacon and they got it perfectly. Great value, great food, great service.

I came here after seeing such awesome reviews.. but I was disappointed.. I had the beef taco, brisket taco and the queso and chips.. queso and chips were ok, but nothing special.. Beef taco was just blah, nothing great.. more like a taco you can get at home. I hoped the brisket taco would be great but it was just blah shredded brisket , no flavor, no seasoning really.. more like stewed beef on a taco.. Sorry I didn't like it. I wont be back, but you should give it a try if you like regular tacos.. I just seem to like more flavor and a kick

This place is close to the mother me midwife and doula which is why we got introduced here at first. .. Also close to Baylor medical. There's always police here and you know they know where all the good hole in the wall joints are! I love the brisket quesadillas and the breakfast cannonball. I wish they stayed open longer but they close at 2pm cause I would totally drive out of my way for this stuff. .. it's like crack is so good.

Many taco places serve tacos big enough to feed Barbie and Ken, not a grown a$$ man. This is not one of those places. My Big Tex breakfast burrito put my taste buds in a sleeper hold until they submitted. The flavor, texture, and quantity of the fajita beef was worthy of my deepest devotions. The egg was hot and fresh. The potatoes were like golden fried manna from heaven. The sauce tied it all together like a west Texas ranch hand on a young steer. Top it off with jalapeño ranch sauce and let the flavor fly. This place is a Dallas gem in the rough.

There are some places you eat at that are so straight forward you don't quite know what to say. Taco Joint is definitely one of those places. While I was sad to not have access to Horchata (that is the one thing I miss about LA), the food was fresh, service was fast, and the flavor profile was there. At first I was not too elated to pay almost $9 for a salad and drink, but then I was presented with a salad the size of a human head with an awesome amount of grilled chicken and avocado that I was beside myself with giddiness. So yeah, $9 well spent. I will definitely be back.

Finally had my first Migas taco while in Dallas for my bday this summer. I had our friend order me 2 Migas tacos with egg whites instead of the regular scrambled eggs. Inside this taco were the eggs, tortilla strips, chiles, onions, tomatoes, serranos and cheese all mixed together like a scramble. Obviously, you can't go wrong with any easily put together breakfast item. These tacos were seriously the bomb diggity. Everything cooked together tasted extremely fresh. The tortillas were very soft. And the icing on this cake was definitely their Jalapeno Ranch sauce. Mmm! I could drink that shizzzzzz. Great place to grab a quick bite to eat!

Been to this place for lunch ... My advice is go BEFORE 11:15 am or it is crazy... The lunch tacos are out of this world!!! Many, many flavors to choose from... Today we went for breakfast and boy was it a great decision.... We had the "State Fair " and the Migas.... And we both loved it !!!

I used to like this place, but, took a break for awhile after I got tired of waiting in line and trying to find a table. Went back last week and it was awful. Queso was SO watery it barely stuck to the chips. Taco meat was so greasy I still have heartburn three days later. Very disappointed - will not be going back. Taco Bell has better tacos.

  • Taylor M.

This place is PACKED at lunch, and for good reason. I love their ground beef - it's soo tasty. I usually get a burrito, and it's great every time. This place is more of your "typical" tex-mex - no crazy unique tacos here (think: Good 2 Go tacos). The staff are friendly and work to get your food out quickly. I work close by, and this is often the first place my coworkers and I choose to go - it's addicting. Nothing too classy, but that's what makes it such an endearing little hole in the wall. The best tacos come from places like that, anyway. YUM! Breakfast tacos are also a favorite to pick up and bring in to work for an awesome start to the day. They LOAD them with eggs and meat...no skimping!

  • Steve R.

Dallas has lots of awesome Tacos but many of the best, high-end taco places lack one thing - a traditional tex-mex taco with a crunchy shell, traditional ground-beef filling, fresh lettuce and tomatoes and nothing fancy or gourmet about it. I love all those modern gourmet tacos too but sometime I miss a good old-fashioned conventional taco and that's the reason I make a trip to the Taco Joint now and then. Their Crispy Taco Combo has that traditional taco flavor you remember from the good ol' days. When I want an awesome modern taco I head over to Velvet Taco but when I have a craving for crispy beef tacos, Taco Joint is best place I know of.

I've been here twice, both times for lunch. This last week I got there at 10:45 (when they switch from breakfast to lunch) and the guys working told me since it was just me I could still get breakfast tacos. I was impressed they were willing to accommodate me, but I still went with lunch. The last time I came I got fried chicken tacos (a daily special) and they were fantastic! I didn't see them on the menu this time or I would have ordered them, instead I got 'The Evan', a wheat tortilla filled with black beans, rice, guacamole, tomatoes, salad mix, and monterrey jack cheese. It was delicious, especially loaded with plenty of the complimentary jalapeno ranch and salsa. I left feeling full but not guilty. If I could give The Taco Joint any feedback it would be to bring back the funny signage on Peak Ave! I miss driving down Peak everyday and chuckling at the clever signs. My favorite was 'Gaga Meat Dress Tacos' the day after Lady Gaga wore her infamous meat dress.

I love the Peak location! The Mockingbird location is great too, but can get crowded with families most weekend mornings. I love the breakfast tacos. I wasn't so crazy about the breakfast enchiladas. Their queso is quite good as well. The jalapeño ranch has gotten spicier and it tastes even better. I definitely recommend Taco Joint for breakfast and the Lester is a great lunch/dinner taco.

Driving by, saw several police cars in the parking lot. Assuming they were eating and not making arrests, I thought I'd give the place a try. Under impressed. Got the Friday special. Fried fish tacos with rice and beans and a drink. Where to start. I always start with the rice. Tells me a lot about a place. The Spanish rice was a little dry and lukewarm. The refried beans were better, in fact they were the highlight of the meal. The fried fish were some type of over processed fish balls in excess batter which ended up being kind of a mushy bland concoction which was really unappetizing. They only thing you could do was smother them in the accompanying habanero ranch sauce. So overall, I'd say drive on past this place

Service is fast and friendly. Food is yum! Great place to stop by for lunch. It's close to the Baylor Hospital system and DTS. Always busy with doctors, students, and businesspeople. It's a must try! I've heard great things about their breakfast tacos but have yet to try them.

Stopped in here for lunch today. Place was packed. Restaurant looked clean. The girl behind the counter was very friendly. I ordered a combo of 2 spicy pork tacos, a generous portion of rice and refried beans, and a drink all for a reasonable $8.29. The pork was juicy and flavorful. I added some of the jalapeno ranch which was just devine! I am usually not too thrilled about refried beans, but these were actually really good (and plentiful). My only.. I don't want to call it a complaint... the tortillas. I've had better. I think they may have not been fresh. Nonetheless, I will be back.

Great ingredients- their breakfast tacos are never greasy or heavy, even if you order them loaded with bacon & potatoes. My husband would crawl over broken glass for their migas- a perfect blend of vegetables & egg on their excellent tortillas. The staff is very friendly, & the music is paired perfectly with the urban setting (live radio streamed from Austin, classic rock). Prices are more than reasonable for the quality & quantity you get here. Consistently awesome.

  • Lorna C.

This place proves that being nice guys with great customer service will earn you a great reputation and 4 stars on yelp! What it doesn't change is the recipe for the bland salsa or disappointing migas. I came back wanting to love this place: the prices are great, the dudes are awesome, the location is perfect, they have 4 stars! Unfortunately, my first taste of the food was accurate and the second experience confirmed it... Even if you are hungry and are wanting a decent taco, search elsewhere.

This place is awesome! Some of the best real tacos I've had. The disaster queso is a meal in itself but it is so yummy! The jalapeno ranch is to die for on your taco. Definitely a place to try if you are curious about it. You will not be disappointed!

I could eat at Taco Joint every day!!! This place is amazing! It is all about their 'disaster' queso and grilled fish tacos, YUM! Seriously, on the weekends I wake up and immediately want to come here. They also have incredible breakfast tacos....egg whites, black beans, guac, you name it. The bloody Mary's are pretty bloody delicious too!! Love this place!

After months of starting out nearly every Saturday with breakfast at Taco Joint, I finally got a chance to try lunch. And I must've done something right in a previous life to score having lunch on Brisket Taco Tuesday. We started with The Disaster, a mind numbing mix of queso, ground beef, guacamole and pico de gallo. I'm a huge fan of TJ's regular queso, but The Disaster makes the regular queso look like an underachieving younger brother. I'm also completely in love with TJ's chips. They're thin, crunchy, and perfectly salted. And they're not at all greasy. Yum. On to my tacos. I ordered a brisket taco, a crunchy beef taco and a beef fajita soft taco. What? I was hawngry, yo. I started with the brisket taco and truly thought I would only take a bite or two before trying my other tacos. One bite and I seriously had to take a moment of silence to enjoy what was going on in my mouth. These bad boys are greasy, but only in the best possible way. The grease adds another layer of flavor and I started dipping my taco in it so I would be sure to catch every drop. It was served in 2 corn tortillas with nothing else, just meat and meat holder. Leigh P. added avocado to hers and I so wish I'd thought to do that. As it was, I was perfectly happy with jalapeño ranch and tomatillo sauce, which I pretty much put on everything. Once I devoured the brisket taco (seriously, the best I've ever had) I moved on to my other 2 tacos. I almost wish I'd eaten those first because they paled in comparison to the brisket taco. Which is not to say that they weren't fabulous. The crunchy beef taco was in a freshly made shell - the best - and had the perfect salad to meat ratio. The beef fajita taco was stuffed to the gills on a warm and fresh tortilla and was also very tasty. Taco Joint continues to blow me away. The absolute freshness of their ingredients, the fact that I've eaten my way through more than half of their menu and have yet to find something I wasn't completely in love with, and the genuine friendliness of the entire staff are all the reasons that I continue to pick Taco Joint over the numerous other places I could go to. I can't stress enough that if you haven't been to Taco Joint, you have to go. Now. Yes, it's downtown. And yes, they're only open for breakfast and lunch. But if ever there was a reason to visit downtown in the middle of the day, this is it. Just know that once you try it, you'll become addicted and won't be able to stop. I keep telling them it isn't nice to put crack in tacos. *shrug*

Taco Joint is hands down my favorite taco place in Dallas. In talking about Taco Joint I feel a little like Goldilocks. I have been to taco places that are way to fancy pants and ones that are a little too dirty, some that are trying too hard and some that don't seem like they are trying hard enough and Taco Joint is just right. Their tacos remind me more of the taco places I love in Austin than any of the other places in Dallas. I am a big fan. I admit that is probably hard for Taco Joint to live up to some of the hype it gets because when it comes down to it, it is still just a taco place, but I like it and give it my personal "Best Taco" in Dallas award.

  • Patrick L.

The Taco Joint dishes out some legit brisket tacos. It's a dive in every sense of the word but the food and customer service definitely makes up the difference. I didn't waste a second, even though there was a wide array of items on the menu (enchiladas chalupas, various soft/hard tacos) I wasn't going to waste this trip not trying their best dish. I opted for the Brisket Taco special ($8.50 tax incl). Brisket tacos were really, really good. My first taste test with tacos is to try the meat by alone, to get a feel for the quality. Excellent, it was soft and tender, not overcooked to make it too too mushy and not cooked too fast to where it toughens up like a baseball glove. It was RIGHT in the middle where it tears apart with each bite of your taco. The brisket itself had a nice seasoning with a little bit of sweetness that I really enjoyed. Now when I added the Jalapeno Ranch, slice of avocado, lettuce and tomatoes. It was freakin delish'. The creaminess of the ranch and avocado mixed so sooooooo well with the moist, sweet brisket. I don't think I'll ever try anything else at Taco Joint, it's just a match made in heaven. Tomatillo/Red Salsa were decent but I will def stick to my Jalapeno Ranch. The best way to go is to get a combo and since everything is in a combo/special, there's no reason not to. You get a side of beans/rice and a drink. Bout the same you would pay at Taco Cabana. I give them major bonus points for having great customer service. It was nice to meet one of the owners and also to know that the other owner was helping prep the food. To me, that means that the owners really care about their business and there is a degree of quality control with the food. Great place to grab a quick lunch. It gets really packed at lunch so come early.

The hype, crowds and absence of hispanic cooks and diners fixed me as lackluster about Taco Joint, but it is in a crumbly neighborhood across from an old brick hotel which who knows serves what purpose now and the guy at the counter sincerely said, "Were you in here yesterday?" , which was really a friendly touch, even though it might've been an attempt at mild mind control: "He relates to me. He remembers me. I'm special. Yes I was here yesterday. Yes I will come back." Then, this gorgeous 6'4" superman hunk lingers near me and orders. That was fun. I remember there was good eye candy here (beefy caucasian guys who might golf). I ordered the miga tacos: they were solid, enough cheese and chiles, fresh and hot. Coffee was weak though and for $7.50 for 2 tacos and weak coffee it's not such a bargain, but still a good spot in the Dallas breakfast echelon. Go during off times or you'll uncomfortably feel like you're about to board a flight at the airport. Decidedly gringo.

I have to believe the breakfast tacos are some of the best in town. The jalapeño ranch is what really adds the differentiator for these tacos. Greatness.

Great place! Went there for lunch and it gets crowded fast! The line goes out the door. But I love the atmosphere and the people are so nice! It's got a great vibe! The jalapeno ranch is killer. It was Thursday and my husband got the Fried Chicken tacos, and although I loved my Lester, wow his were freakin' awesome! Would definitely go back!

SUUUUUPER OVER-RATED. First things first - when you walk into a restaurant, even though it's packed, you need to check out the clientele. A good Chinese restaurant would have tons of Chinese people. A good Indian spot would have tons of Indian people. And hence, a good Mexican restaurant would have tons of Mexican people. That being said, this place had a crazy line, and I think the only thing Mexican about the whole place was the jalapeños. I don't know if ANY of the clientele were Mexican. \Which takes me to my next point - the Jalapeño Ranch sauce. Yes, it's good, but it's RANCH dressing nonetheless. Would be good on a salad, maybe a burger, but tacos? Would you put chipotle sauce or salsa on a burger? Actually, I think you would - but in this case, it doesn't work. Now to the food. Queso dip - the Disaster. Thank God it wasn't a disaster. It actually wasn't too bad. I'd give it 4 stars on its own (although a little spicy kick would have been awesome, but likely too spicy for the American clientele this place has), but I'd never go back to a taco joint (no pun intended) just for it's queso. Tacos - spicy pork? Meh. Brisket? Meh. The Lester is basically the exact same thing as a Double Decker taco from Taco bell, except at Taco Bell you get sour cream, so I think it's better. And my gf got the Especial Chalupa, which was ....... drumroll please ....... Meh. Initially I was going to give this place 3 stars because it wasn't HORRIBLE. But then I looked at Yelp's ratings, and 2 stars is "Meh. I've experienced better" and that's EXACTLY how I feel. I wouldn't give it 1 star, which is "Eek! Methinks not", but 3 star of "A-OK" is not how I feel either. If I was in the area and starving, I think I'd probably go to Church's chicken before I went to this place. Seriously I have NO IDEA how this place has gotten such rave reviews. And I'm from Southern California with TONS of mexican restaurants. Fuel City Tacos has this place BEAT, no question.

I've been to The Taco Joint numerous times so it's about time I give them my highest review rating.....they deserve it!!! I've visited both the original location off Peak as well as the new one off Mockingbird (pluses = buy beer here and open Sundays). The original is unbeatable for atmosphere. It's not in the best part of town but when you walk into the place, it transforms into a real beauty! The wall murals in both locations really give you a great feeling of pride for Dallas and provide you with entertainment whether waiting in line on a Saturday morning or sitting at your table enjoying the best breakfast tacos in the metroplex! The services is friendly and they move through the orders very quickly so you don't wait too long. The breakfast tacos can be customized to you liking. Their chorizo is much better than a place like Rusty Taco and has a great full flavor. Their potatoes are small squares and are perfectly crispy - a great addition to any breakfast taco! 2 tacos is enough to really fill you up. If you're really hungry, try the DISASTER queso dip (similar to Bob Armstrong). The burritos are very large so I usually go for 2 tacos to mix it up on the fillings. The bean taco with potatoes is also delish if you're not into breakfast meat. The jalapeno ranch sauce is drinkable - it's so delicious! They offer 2 other salsas to top your taco but do yourself a favor and go for the jalapeno ranch kick! I only wish the next time they expand the joint, they'll look north towards Frisco!

I'm a regular on Saturday mornings for more than a year now. If you like breakfast tacos, this is a great place. Ample parking in front or along Peak Street. If the line in Taco Joint looks long, do not fret! Line goes by fast and service is quick. Breakfast includes three different categories including tacos, breakfast burritos and breakfast dishes. I have ordered from all three and you cannot go wrong. Tacos can be made from all the regular breakfast fixins (sausage, chorizo, bacon, egg, potato, etc) and are priced by number of items. Burritos are huge and can also be made with a whole wheat tortilla and three featured burritos are stuffed with a variety of breakfast goodness. My favorite burrito is the Great Gordo that includes eggs, potatoes, cheese and a choice of bacon, sausage or chorizo. There are three egg breakfast dishes and out of those I have ordeed the migas. The migas are great and often people ask me what I have ordered. Migas include side of potatoes, beans and two toritllas. There are some great salsas available to go with your tacos and a jalepeno ranch dressing that rocks. Standard sodas, coffee, sports drinks and bottled tea are for sale too. Try some great tacos in Old East Dallas. You will like it.

Fantastic lunch option, just outside of downtown. I had the taco special with two fajita steak tacos (with grilled onions, cheese, all the fixin's) and a side of rice & beans (done 50/50 like at Taco Deli in Austin), which was reasonably priced (including a drink) for just over $7. Plus, they have "Sonic ice" for the drinks which is a plus. Overall, a great meal in a not-too-crowded lunch venue means that I'm certainly bound to return.

Taco Joint is FANTASTIC! As someone who doesn't eat a lot of meat, I can appreciate the fact that not everything on the menu is beef or pork. Not only that but the vegetarian taco is amazing. Everything always tastes so fresh and it doesn't hurt that there is vats of special sauces lined up by the soda machine. I could literally drink their ranch sauce. The only negative to Taco Joint is that it is open at weird times!

I love TJ. I was so happy to get a location literally in my neighborhood than what do we go and do? Move :( Now you guys need to open up in Plano please! My husband still swings by after work a couple times a month so we can get our fix. I love the brisket tacos (sometimes they are better than other times), fried chicken tacos, disaster queso, beef fajita tacos and the jalapeno ranch. We often buy the jalapeno ranch in 16 or 32 oz. increments so we can use throughout the week for salads, etc. TJ's prices are super reasonable too. For a family of 3 we often get out for around $22. For those of you comparing Taco Joint to Fuel City that would be like comparing Long John Silvers to Pappadeaux. Two totally different concepts. The guys are super nice and always remember your name. One of my favorite joints!

Taco Joint tacos are really good. They brought them in to a kind of random work breakfast meeting the other day and I was really impressed. Definitely stuffed full or good fresh ingredients. I had one of the breakfast tacos with potato and eggs and one that was a jalapeno sausage one. Both were very good and eating 2 was surprisingly filling. It is my understanding that they are only open for breakfast and lunch and that their east Dallas location is their only location.

If you're looking for authentic Mexican tacos get the hell out of here. You're in the wrong place. If you're looking for some dang good white boy tacos then you've come to the right place. I've been eating here since they've opened (it helps that I live 10 seconds away). While there have been a few times I've eaten and not been totally satisfied with the food (chicken is a bit rough, potatoes over cooked, etc.), this happens very, very rarely. They guys that own/work here are great, too. Always willing to chat it up with you. They definitely fill you up with their portions. I say just try everything on the menu. You can't go wrong.

I've had my share of breakfast tacos, and let's be honest -- this is not rocket science. Eggs, bacon, cheese, potato, tortilla, wrap it up, good salsa, fast, cheap. Done. Anyway, anyone from Austin knows that it isn't difficult. I've come here a few times and have seen the quality drop off. Unwrap your taco it rips, cheese and bacon stuck to foil -- it's not that difficult to avoid that. I call in an order and they screw up three of the tacos, and it ain't that cheap considering. So, I'm done with this place, no margin for error in the taco game...

First of all, if you're looking for Mexican food, turn around, walk out the door, and go somewhere else. This place is not worth your time. If you're looking for run of the mill Tex-Mex, you're in the right place. Really liked the staff here though -- the cashier was super friendly and a Rangers fan, so what else could I ask for? Taco Joint has a super trendy atmosphere, a la Potbelly's or Freebirds, and it's obvious that they spent a lot of time working on their image/marketing. The only tacos they offer, from what I could tell, are ground beef, fajita, veggie and brisket, in addition to some breakfast items that I didn't pay much attention to at lunch. I don't think they had corn tortillas, and the flour tasted like mission tortillas that they didn't even bother to heat up (read: gross). I ordered 3 fajita tacos, but I could have done with just one. The tacos combined a huge salad of lettuce, cheese and tomatoes with a bed of flavorless, room temperature fajita meat. We also had the chips and queso, but the chips were greasy and rubbery, and the queso was rotel and cheddar, nothing to get excited about. Two stars because they tried so hard with their marketing, but like I said, if you're looking for authentic tacos, skip this place. I would have preferred Taco Bell to Taco Joint.

Warning, I grew up on San Antonio style tacos. Sorry, I don't like this place, at all. 4 stars is way overrated. Flour tortillas are not fresh as far as I can tell. I like my tortillas with dark brown spots cooked in, not an all white tortilla. I got the 5 Alarm burrito and ate about 1/5 of it before I gave up on it. As my father would say, "It's edible". Well, while it may have been edible, my taco standards would not allow me to give this any more room in my stomach. This place has the Fuzzy Taco feel, if you have ever been there. The food tastes very processed. I also drank tea and it was super dark to where I had to had about 50% more water and it still didn't taste good. It tasted like instant tea, to me or at best a very low quality black tea. I'm also a tea aficionado, so be warned on that, too. Best things were that I really liked the environment, the mural on the wall and the jalapeno ranch salsa. From the looks of the crowd in attendance, while they may be locals, they didn't appear to be that of a crowd that knows their tacos, if you know what I mean. ;-)

Have been going to Taco Joint for about 2 years now; they are fast, affordable and delicious. The same owners opened up another location off Mockingbird(they serve alcohol there!). They have a "disaster" dip which is queso, guacamole, and pico and beef and it is AMAZING. I can not go to Taco joint without ordering one of those; there Migas is good but I've had better; it doesnt have meat. I usually go with the breakfast tacos; brisket. My fiance could drink their Jalepeno ranch sauce..

I love places like The Taco Joint. They know what they do, "Tacos!". And they did it very well. Basically, this is just a great place to get a great taco. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top, just tacos! Seasoned grounded beef, not to wet, nor dry and crumbly. Lettuce, tomatoes, and cheeses. That's it...just great tacos. It has been added to places to eat lunch list.

Ok.... Not bad or anything but nothing really stood out as special. Perhaps my perspective is skewed from being used to eating really good tacos in the breakfast taco Mecca, Austin. Probably won't go back on the single premise of the amount of people that were wearing North face jackets there.

This place is awesome! Decided to check it out based on the reviews on Yelp and was not disappointed. Had a bacon & egg and a migas taco and both were delicious. Love their salsas and jalapeño ranch too. Will definitely be going back frequently!

They have the best breakfast tacos in town. The way they cook the bacon and potatoes, AMAZING. I wanted the lunch items to be just as good, however we only have been one time for lunch and it was average but nothing outstanding. We go back monthly for the breakfast tacos.

I've been to Taco Joint two Saturdays in a row now, and prior to my second visit I had this pegged as a 4* place, but the Disaster Queso is worthy of a 5th star itself. I've had their tacos, a breakfast burrito and now the chips & DQ and this place is legit. If you're a spicy food lover like me, as them to put the 5 alarm chili sauce on your tacos and you'll love it. The tomatillo and red salsas at the bar are pretty solid too, as well as the jalapeno ranch. Great job by the Taco Joint crew - the line was to the door, and it really only took 5 minutes for my food after the order was placed.

Love love love smaller, off the beaten path food places and Taco Joint is fantastic! My friend and I stumbled upon a flier at the office... 5 minutes away you say Google maps... well lucky for us it's lunch time! By 12 the line was out the door and the food proved to be well worth the wait. Really fresh ingridents, the sauces were oh so yummy. I went with the veggie burrito... yummmmmmmm Definitely addiciting... hmmm is it lunch time yet?

First up, although I think this has been covered, this is definitely a Tex-Mex (as opposed to authentic Mexican) taco place. Nothing wrong with that, but be aware. That said, my lunch here a week or so ago was really good. I had "The Disaster" to start, their queso/meat/quac/pico concoction. It was quite tasty, but a bit spendy at $5. Chips were light and crisp. The main event brought chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce and a brisket taco on the side; both were quite large and packed with meat, the former with good quality chicken with modest spice, the latter with tasty, nicely spiced (if a tad dry) and tender brisket wrapped in a nice flour tortilla. All quite nice. The jalapeno ranch dressing is fantastic, as are the other salsas. This place is quite a haul for me (being an Allenite and all), but I'll surely be back, and I want to try those breakfast tacos some time.

super casual, tons of awesome food choices, portions are big, but a great way to satisfy your hangover or post 5K hunger. prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get.

I grab breakfast here several times a month. I love their new quesadilla and of course their jalapeño ranch. I went today to try their nachos. Great flavor but I had to take them to go. The nachos were stacked in the to-go container and became soggy. I would also suggest serving more than a table spoon of guacamole to go with a full plate of nachos!

So some of my yelp friends talked me into taking a long lunch on a Tuesday and meeting up for Brisket Taco's. OMG if I'd have gotten fired over it.. it still would've been worth it. We sat munching trying to decide what exactly they marinated that brisket in. mmmmmm I'm going to risk my job a few more Tuesdays for this one!

I owe this find to Nikki B who turned me on to this place. I never would have known about it otherwise, for some strange reason. Anyway, thank you! Let me start with first impressions. This place is too cool for Dallas. I felt as if I had been transported to Madison, Berkeley, or Seattle. In other words, I loved the funky ambience and laid back approach. To the food: I went twice, once on a Saturday to check it out when I thought lines would be shorter, and on a Tuesday to get the famed brisket tacos. The first time it was around noon and the line was out the door anyway. I had some kind of soft taco combo, forget the name because it was a couple of weeks ago. But my impression was very favorable and the jalapeno ranch is just outstanding. Although it was a thoroughly positive experience and I have nothing bad to say, my thirst for tacos was not completely sated. So I returned on Tuesday this week (10/13/09) for brisket tacos with a friend from work. He had never even heard of brisket tacos. We got there about 11:15-ish and the line was very short, just a few people, so we ordered quickly and nabbed a table without problem. We got two orders and an order of the disaster queso. Both were excellent and lived up to the hype. My friend liked the taco so much he saved the second to take home to his wife so she could experience it. Such a sweetheart. Not me, I ate them both and finished off the queso. I am definitely a fan and plan to make this place part of my regular lunch rotation. Thanks Nikki B!

This place is always packed and for good reason. Their salsas are fresh and yumtastic, their chips and salsa are delish, and The Larry is a religious experience. I don't eat fish tacos, but my dining companion tried it and said they were amazing. I haven't had anything that I didn't like there. Can't go wrong!

I really, really want to love this place, but I have to say, it's just OK. I go here about once a month because my fiance loves their breakfast tacos. I usually enjoy a fajita breakfast taco when I can get one. Here, unfortunately, the meat is not good at all and is always tough and dry. The potatoes aren't good either - they're usually really crispy and dry too. That being said, after I learned this and stuck to regular bacon, egg and cheese tacos, I don't mind the place too much. I've also had lunch here and it was much better than the breakfast. The staff is very friendly and the food usually comes out pretty fast. I'll keep trying this place but recommend you look elsewhere to get a great breakfast taco experience (Rusty Taco is decent, Fuel City is tasty, and even certain Taco Cabanas beat this place). Nov 2013 Edit I keep trying this place and nothing! After a particularly awful steak fajita taco - and $20 lunch in the trash - I want to reiterate, this place is just not good! And I am not even close to being a picky eater!!!

I thought this place was ok, nothing to write home about. However the queso is the best I've ever had. I also got the Migas Taco (was just ok) and the vegetarian Sophie, which I liked. The boy got the Migas plate, which was missing the crunchy tortilla chips (the signature ingredient in Migas) and the beans were blah...he didn't like it too much. I'll go back again to try more of the cheap taco fare. The sauce bar was not as awesome as expected. The guy behind the register was very friendly and thanked us for coming in. I'm guessing it was the owner. My experience did not live up to the all the hype. This place is probably good as gold for hungover folks. Here's hoping the Brisket Tacos are good, if I ever can make it on a Tuesday.

My first trip was a a success. It was a weekday, during lunch, and I somehow avoided the now infamous line. Considering its location, you might expect expect a little taco stand serving authentic Mexican tacos, but as Leigh P. reports, these are thoroughly American tacos. However, these are very good American tacos, and while the place is a bit of a whole in a wall, it also feels as though you're in Austin and not right off of Gaston. I had the brisket tacos combo, and the tacos were excellent. The rice and beans were decent, though mixed in the same bowl. I also tried a ground beef taco. The meat was delicious, but it was serviced in a hard shell that was then wrapped with a soft tortilla. I'll give points for creativity, but they just shouldn't be mixed.

I know, I am updating this for the third time but I can't freakin help it. Just a couple of added things: 1. Leigh P is right - These are not taco stand tacos like Fuel City. They are larger, they have more healthy ingredients, and they are more "gringo" tacos. If you want Fuel City, then go to Fuel City and get out of the line at Taco Joint so I can get mine faster!! 2. I am done with the brisket tacos after this weekend. I finally got a breakfast taco and I sincerely doubt I will get anything else ever. Just say "CHORIZO" and let the magic meat party start in your mouth (HA!!). Fucking hell that was the best freakin breakfast taco I have ever had. I am not exaggerating, I was in love. Granted, I have had foods while hungover and said they were the best ever....but this really was. I am craving it. I want it right now for breakfast, then later for lunch, and then repeat it every day for the rest of my life.

$20 for 4 tacos and they left HALF of the items off. I say skip it and go to GOOD TO GO TACO on Peavy Road. Better service and BETTER tacos.

I reviewed TJ elsewhere awhile back, but wanted to add something here about Corey and Jeffrey, the owners. About a year ago I brought in a young Marine on his way to Afghanistan and they did something nice for him. This week I brought that same Marine in and THOSE GUYS RECOGNIZED HIM WITH NO PROMPTS and they did something nice for him again! Thank you to Jeffrey and Corey, true class, stand-up guys. Oh, and of course the food was great, same as always.

A'ight, I see there has been some Taco Joint confusion because there have been some people review TJ and say they were disappointed. I've decided it's time I help everybody out so you know what to expect before you go. :) These are not, and have never intended to be, interior mexico tacos. You looking for al pastor? Yeah, not here. Picadillo? Nope, this ain't it. I adore (adoooore) tacos from little shacks. As a matter of fact, I hope I'm eating lengua when they say "beef". I want extra cilantro and onions. I want the hot green salsa. Yes please. I grew up in Dallas. I know tacos. Unfortunately, if you come to Taco Joint looking for reeeeeeal mex-mex or even tex-mex, well, buddy, this simply ain't it. These are different... they're intended (gasp!) to be Americanized. They just want to make fresh tacos. These owner guys are from Austin. Hear that music playing? Yeah, it's KGSR (a local Austin radio station) streamed on the internet. Austin has a few local chains of taco spots similar to Taco Joint. I'm sure these guys moved to Dallas, saw a hole in our market and are happily filling it. They're all about serving really fresh food at good prices. So if you go and say you didn't like it because you like authentic style tacos from stands... well, it's as if I reviewed Pizza Hut and said I didn't like it because it's not my favorite Italian spot. Just doesn't compare. Doesn't make either lesser, it's just a different style. Get it? :) I'm still a fan!

Folks, Taco Joint should just become the Official UYE spot on Tuesdays... we saw Chris L and Joseph B there and know others also make regular appearances. Since I'm the first to propose the OUYE, I get to make up the rules. The only rule is you gotta bask in the glory of the brisket-y taco goodness. By bask, I mean bathe. And by glory, I mean the the sweet beef brisket juices. L'eau de Brisket is powerful stuff, as you will be irresistible to all people who fancy BBQ. And all bears, even the non-Yogi variety, so be careful. Seriously, there's something about the brisket, in a flour tortilla, topped with an avocado, drenched with jalapeno ranch that makes me want to bathe in the juices. You say yuck? Well I say yum! Why only 4 stars and not 5? While I'd bathe in Taco Joint's brisket juices, I'd chug the shot of fat served on the side of Mia's brisket tacos. And you know drinking the fat means true love.

Since I've moved from Austin, I've been looking for some good tacos in Dallas. But if you're using Torchy's as your meter stick, you'll be disappointed. This place is at a good location for anyone going to Baylor hospital or the dental school and it gets very busy for lunch. We went on a weekday at 12:30, and the line was at least 20 people deep. The brisket tacos were a little more sweet than I was expecting, and I would've preferred to have fluffier tortillas (think taco cabana). The beans and rice that comes with the meal is nothing out of the ordinary. But at $8, it is a slightly cheaper alternative to Mia's brisket tacos.

Okay...since we are ALLLLLL reviewing Taco Joint today I guess I will put in my two cents. It's okay. Breakfast is way better than lunch. Neighborhood is not faux-down as previous reviewer suggested. Food is basic--tacos, burritos, rice and beans. Not great but okay. Breakfast actually seems to have more combinations and the food quality is better. I do like that the rice an beans come in the same cup because I'm mixing them together anyhoo. The ranch sauce is good. It's like they are trying to be Torchy's Tacos in Austin and aren't quite getting it. PARKING SUX! I hate to fault them on being packed but I am. Line out the door. People taking up three spaces for their SUV because they don't want door dings, NO ONE knows how to parallel park. Last time I had to park around the corner and down the street. Service used to be very personal, now it's even to busy for that. And here's a hint. When you are done eating and there's a line of people waiting to sit down...move your happy butt outside to visit. Geeezzzzz! Etiquette folks, not entitlement.

I have crossed over to the dark side... I mean taco side... I mean brisket side. I mean I was always on the brisket side, especially at Mia's. But now I have found brisket tacos BETTER than Mia's. *Ducks to miss tomatoes flying from the hands of fellow Mia's lovers.* It's true. I didn't think it was possible, but folks... it is. I met my crew here on Brisket Taco Tuesday. (They only serve these bad boys on Tues.) I was surprised at how clean and open the space was. I wasn't expecting a shack or anything, but damn it was shiny in there! There was a small line at 11:30am, but not too crazy. Five minutes later though it was PACKED! Tables filled up and the line went out the door. Everything on the menu looked very tempting. The vegetarian tacos sounded amazing: The Sophie ($2.59-special veggie mix of carrots, potatoes, zucchini, red and yellow bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions sauteed in vegetable oil and topped with jack cheese and wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla) & the The Evan ($2.59-A wheat tortilla filled with black beans, rice, guacamole, tomatoes, salad mix, and Monterrey jack cheese). BUT I HAD to do the brisket. I started out with a couple tastes of the Disaster which is a their "special blend of queso mixed with seasoned ground sirloin, guacamole, and pico de gallo." It was pretty damn good. My order came out super swiftly though so I didn't have much time to eat the queso mix... which was probably a good thing. I did have enough time to fill my fountain drink with Diet Dr. Pepper and get a few cups of the tomatillo, jalapeno ranch and salsa. (By the way, all three were sauces were great but the jalapeno ranch went perfectly with the brisket.) On to the tacos. Sweet Jesus (pronounced "Haysooce") these babies were tasty. The meat was tender and broke off into my mouth while the juice dripped down my chin. That's some good shiz right there! I only made it through one of them at the restaurant... and only made it 5 minutes at home before cramming the other in my mouth. It was just so juicy and sweet. Plus they double up on the corn tortilla so it makes it easier to eat. On top of the drool-inducing food, the employees were incredibly nice. I believe the two young owners were there and they remembered every customer's name. On the way out, one of the cuties asked me: "Hey Melody, was everything alright?" Oh no. It was better than alright. It was perfect. I heart you, brisket tacos. And I heart you too, Taco Joint. I'll be back for breakfast... and I'm brangin' friends!

Breakfast tacos and burritos are the best way to start off the weekend. I love the fact that the Taco Joint's focus is on breakfast - with its lunch options fast gaining notoriety. That said, I thought the food was about 3 stars, but am more than willing to pony up another star or two if rumors of a brisket taco that's even better than Mia's is substantiated. I've read countless glowing reviews on The Taco Joint and every time I read one, it annoyed me that I couldn't check this place out since it's only open from 6:30am to 2pm M-Sat. This Saturday I made it a point to check it out. Line was 8-10 deep when I went around noon. The interior is simple, fun, and local - a healthy number of tables and some bar table seating that were all filled up by local patrons. I ordered the chorizo burrito, which was good, but the sausage was ground up into a meat sauce. I was expecting large cut up, crispy chunks of juicy chorizo sausage - not mystery meat sauce! Fresh salsa was tasty though and great with my burrito. I don't know when I'll ever be able to hit up brisket tacos Tuesdays. I may have to play hooky to squeeze that one in. Still, Taco Joint is a great addition to the neighborhood and I love its focus on breakfast. I'd hit this place up if I was ever in the hood.

Happiness is The Taco Joint now serving their lunch menu on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. I recently tried "The Lester" and the "MT Taco", and both are blissful to the taste-buds. At this point, everything I have tried at The Taco Joint has been excellent. Happiness is hangover tacos.

Okay okay I get what all the hype is about now! I drove 20 minutes out of my way during lunch today with Valerie S. to go get some Taco joint. We couldn't stay to dine but but got to enjoy a little bit of the vibe and took full advantage of the self serve salsa area. I got the lupa combo that came with rice, flavorful refreid beans and two chalupas. The chalupas were just overstuffed with all sorts of goodness and were extra crunchy. I also ordered their chips and guacamole and man it was fresh and delish. I definitely need to come on a Tuesday to check out the brisket tacos. I also ordered 3 burritos and a soft taco for some co-workers as well and the grand total came to 26 bucks, what a steal. Taco Joint beware...I am now an addict!

I think any place that has tacos should be open Sunday. I tried to give this place a chance twice, the second time forgetting that the first time I went was ALSO on a Sunday and it wasn't open. I shall perhaps give it a chance on another day, but quite frankly I bet if u asked anyone what day they are most in the mood for tacos, Friday might follow as a close second, but Sunday would win every time!

I live three blocks away from here and drive past the Taco Joint all the time. The area is pretty chill and removed from the city center, so imagine my surprise to find over sixty reviews for this place already on Yelp! The best thing is, the props are well deserved. I was intrigued by the promise of lard-free chips and beans (you can ask at restaurants but you never really know for sure, you know?) and by the fact that they explicitly list vegetarian options in their menu, instead of forcing me to make clever substitutions to find something I can eat. My friend (who wants me to refer to her as 'the Meatasaurus', she's been watching a lot of Jurassic Park with her kid) and I came in some time around 1 pm and there was only a short line; they move through order-taking pretty quickly. We got chips and guacamole, she chose chicken fajita tacos, and I ordered the veggie burrito without cheese. The guacamole is chunky and really, really good. I could have eaten it with a spoon, but alas, I was in public. My burrito was awesome -- another review complained about the size, but I thought it was perfect. Big enough to be totally filling, and not as big as you might get at Freebird's (did you realize their half-bird veggie burrito is over 500 calories?!) which I can never finish in one sitting. It also had a good mix of vegetables and beans, which is a delicate balance (you have to make sure it's moist enough, not too crunchy with excess lettuce, not soggy which tears the tortilla, etc), and rarely achieved. My friend gave her chicken fajita tacos "two Meatasaurus-armed thumbs up!" She also really liked that the beans and rice came in the same container so that they could be easily mixed if desired. Final thought -- I got in line a second time to put in an order to go, and before I got to the front, two different employees asked me if everything had been okay with the first order. Way observant, and way conscientious! Even if I didn't live within Saturday-morning-stumbling distance from this place, I would go here all the time. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Love this place. Great queso, jalapeno ranch dip, salsa, and chips. The brisket tacos are the absolute best thing on the menu.

My husband has been talking about this place for months and until I finally went I could not even understand why and how he could be so in love with this place. I mean really, how good could those tacos and burritos be? Let me tell you: they are AMAZING!! It was love at first bite. Seriously. The food looks, smells and tastes super fresh and healthy without that hippie twang. Their rice and beans are of course vegan ad we are hoping to get them to offer soy chorizo and vegan sour cream. This place is a definite must try!! *** i would have given this place 5 stars but everything is throw away and that really really annoys me.

This place was busy so I was expecting something special and I was disappointed. The food was ok but for the price I expected something more. The beans were typical and rice was ok. I can go to a taqueria in Oak Cliff and get better food for a lower price.

This is my first review on yelp, and it's quite fitting because, as a native Austinite, I'm a breakfast taco junkie! I've been searching Dallas for decent breakfast taco since I arrived in Dallas a year ago and this is the best I've found yet. As soon as I walked into the joint the interior immediately reminded me of one of my favorite breakfast taco haunts in Austin, which is a great sign! I ordered 2 tacos, one with chorizo and one with bacon. The bacon (egg and cheese) taco was incredible. They serve their bacon differently than any other breakfast taco I've ever had. They chop up at lease 3 different crispy strips of bacon into small "bacon bit" size pieces so every bite is full of yummy bacon-unlike some places that just throw a strip of chewy bacon on the taco and call it a day. The taco was large enough to fill me up for the entire day, and I was highly satisfied as far as breakfast tacos in Dallas go. However, I deducted 2 stars for several reasons. The chorizo at this "joint" is too salty, if you're a big chorizo fan, stay away! Finally, any breakfast taco aficionado will tell you-the key ingredient of any breakfast taco is the salsa. If the salsa is fresh, just spicy enough, just chunky enough, with just enough cilantro, garlic and fresh ingredients the taco will be awesome. At the Taco Joint, they tried and their efforts led to a fun "salsa" bar with some jalapeno ranch, red salsa, and green salsa, but the salsas are just not right. I must admit, the jalapeno ranch is a great addition to the taco, but the red salsa and the green salsa just aren't flavorful, or chunky enough, enough to complete the perfect taco. Despite the salty chorizo and the lack of the perfect salsa, these tacos are pretty darn good and I will keep coming back to get my breakfast taco fix!

I love the entire taco spectrum, from taco trucks to upscale and traditional to bizarre taco-inspired fusion. And yet I just can't find anything interesting at Taco Joint. The food is just bland. I tried the tacos, breakfast tacos, and an appetizer, but it just didn't amount to much. It's telling that one item is actually nothing more than a Double Decker Taco (and surprisingly no more interesting that its fast-food equivalent). Meat: bland. Tortillas: unnoticeable. Salsas: yawn. Don't get me wrong; nothing was *bad*, but In a town packed with delicious taco places, I won't be wasting my time here again. For a better taco, consider: Picadillo: Fuel City Carnitas: Urban Taco Tilapia: Taco Diner Tex-Mex: Torchy's (try the Democrat with plenty of salsa verde) Upscale: La Duni

I am writing this review on behalf of my six year old son who is an extremely picky eater, but every time we go to The Taco Joint it's another story. He would eat TWO breakfast tacos all by himself. He even begs for me to take him there if we are in Downtown. You know what they say, kids never lie! :-)

I went here for the first time today for lunch. I asked the couple behind me in line what was good. They recommended the chorizo tacos, so I quickly changed my mind about getting the brisket tacos and ordered 2 chorizo tacos with a side of beans. My name was called and I picked up my to go order. I got home and it was TOTALLY the wrong order! There were six tacos in my bag including sausage, bacon, and migas. Ugh!!!! They were fine I guess. Nothing special. About as special as Whataburger taquitos or a McDonald's breakfast burrito. I was mad that I didn't check my order before leaving and that I didn't order the brisket tacos. I thought only KFC could mess up a to go order that badly! The jalapeno ranch sauce was the only decent sauce. The red and green ones were bland with absolutely no kick. I don't think I'll go back, but the place was packed and parking was somewhat difficult A lot of people seem to really like this place for some strange reason. Please note...if an owner or manager responds to me, I will not change my rating or review no matter how nice or apologetic you are.

I ordered a combo but requested bean and cheese tacos instead of beef, to go, and when I got back to my desk at work realized they had put beef. I'm perfectly okay with screwed up orders but I felt the guy managing the cash register was rude about it. He asked if I wanted the bean and cheese tacos to which I said yes, but the combo. He clarified saying, "ok if you look at the menu, the combo comes with beef" in kind of a patronizing way (he put his pen and paper down and put his hand up as if to make over emphatic gestures...not cool). Anyway, my 2 stars is based on customer service not taste. I went before the lunch rush on purpose so there should have been no reason for not taking an additional 15 seconds to confirm the order. Other taco places around town get my order correct (even Fuel city) so I will be patronizing those instead.

Was introduced to the TJ (gee, another acronym!) by a friend of my wife, and we made a visit on 9/10 for an early lunch. The staff (assume maybe the owners/co-owners) greeted everyone warmly and was patient with first time visitors as they became acclimated to the menu, ordering protocols, etc. I went simple, as I usually do (side rant: what's up with folks that can't order anything as presented on the menu without all of the substitutions and omissions? I'm not judgin', I'm just sayin). I ordered one each of chicken and fajita taco. I had heard about the brisket taco, but since those are specials, they weren't available on our visit. The clever combination of salsas was a nice mixture. Picking up food called from kitchen was easy and quick. The tacos, although not exceptional, were very good and reminiscent of those that I might make :-) Would like to be able to have breakfast here, which I actually will target prior to an appt. I have in the area in the next couple of weeks. OK, update to my nit, corn is available, in fairness, I owe them an update. Next visit will definitely include corn! Woo hoo.

Best Breakfast Taco's EVER!!! I absolutely love this place and even have a koozie to prove it!!! The chips and queso are SOOO good too.. You can call ahead your order or if you want to eat there.. Expect a line to order and you will have to stand around for a table, but waiting is so worth it and its not that bad of a wait.

This morning I was feeling more grumpy than those few folks who wasted hard-earned money to see Charlie Sheen "in concert" last night. However, sometimes attitude adjustment is as simple as a good taco, a revelation that came to me just after a lunch at Taco Joint. It's hard to not leave this place happy, when their particular use of meat, tortilla and salsa creates smiles in all that sample these treats. Folks, this is some seriously good food , served by people who genuinely do seem to care about your business. The first time I visited was on a Saturday at about 11:30a, so it was my fault that it was pulsing with an overflow hipster crowd and that it took 30 minutes to get to the register to order. On top of that, there was no place to sit because some douche was saving a bunch of tables for her eventhough the place asks you not to. Nevertheless, I liked that I could order both breakfast and the brisket special at the same time on Saturday. There are tons of reviews here praising the brisket so I will not repeat other than to say "juicy, tasty, delicious". The chorizo and egg taco I had was phenomenal and the best use of that Mexican sausage that I have had in this city. I left satisfied and the douche got stood up, so all seemed right with the world upon leaving. Today's visit went much smoother but I missed breakfast by 15 minutes (it stops at 10:45a). I was "forced" to stick with only the brisket this time. Good thing because I am still full 6 hours later. That breakfast taco would have made me explode! TJ is a trek for me or else I would go more, but when I am in a foul mood and need some yummy taco goodness to soothe my soul and some kind service to help turn my day into a better direction. And, I can do that for less than $10 bucks. WINNING!

Very tasty tacos. Ingredients are always fresh and the food is served fast! I was standing in a line at the Taco Joint just today and with about 10 people ahead of me, I still ordered in 5-6 minutes. And then got my food in another 4-5 minutes. Really love the dive-y ambiance. There are lots of round tables and some bar seating. The sauces are tasty, especially the ever popular jalapeno ranch. I just can't give this place more than 3 stars, despite being pretty tasty, because the ingredients are just so...beige. Shredded iceberg, diced tomatoes, refried beans, and that's all folks. But seriously though, BEST iceberg, tomatoes, and bean tacos I've had in Texas.

Tiny little place, reasonable prices, lots of good food, and friendly staff. This is the kind of hole-in-the-wall place you want to visit. I don't care for the flour tortillas they use, but they are light and work well for the tacos. The rest of the ingredients were good. I had breakfast and tried the Fajita (my favorite from the bunch), Chorizo (I think it's their own...almost like seasoned ground beef but was good), & Migas (probably won't order those again...I prefer crispy vs. tender migas.). All of them came with egg & cheese. Make sure to try the tomatillo sauce and jalapeno ranch...good stuff. There isn't a lot of parking, so be prepared to wait or walk a bit. I'm looking forward to lunch there soon because I am definitely going to recommend this to some work friends.

I've been to a lot of taco places, and based on rave reviews I gave Taco Joint a try. Seriously, I don't get it. First thing I noticed: they have no Mexican sodas. I saw Gatorade and the blends of the Sweet Tea that I get from CM, and fountain sodas. If it's an authentic spot, I'm going to need a Jarritos or a close substitute to wash everything down. The gent that took my order was friendly enough, and the order arrived in a reasonable amount of time considering it was lunch hour. I ordered the 2 beef tacos combo with the rice and a soda. It was about $6. They use actual ground beef for the tacos, which was odd. However, it was not seasoned and I found it a bit greasy (even for tacos). The jalapeño ranch sauce was pretty good, the salsa roja was watery and bland. I get the organic ingredient angle, but it should still taste good and they didn't. What did I miss at this place? I'd tried to be a fan but I can't say I'll be back. El Si Hay is still my reigning champ - going to Tacos El Guero next.

Found this place via Yelp. Long line on Saturday at lunch, but it moves quickly. Order the brisket tacos and chips & queso. Eat now, thank me later. Tacos came with avocado and other fixins on the side. Queso was divine and complimented the tacos (as did the jalapeno ranch dip). If you can beat the crowd, this place is a go-to joint!

Food is okay to good. Employee's aren't particularly friendly or anything. They just get the job done. They keep the place as clean as they can. I don't really want to come back for the food because there are a lot better authentic Mexican restaurants for the same price around the area.

To all taco snobs (I am one myself), this is not your "authentic" Mexican taco so don't go there expecting that. I think I've had many friends who have gone there and don't think anything special of the place, but T.J. isn't trying the be THAT kind of place. If you want THAT one most go to the hood and get some real tacos from an "authentic" taco shop...which I do sometimes. This place is more like a college campus or close-by campus taco joint. All that said, my wife and I LOVE Taco Joint! The crispy tacos are soooooo good and the prices awesomely reasonable. The queso is one of my favs. The breakfast tacos are awesome as well if you go there at that time of day. Go there...eat it...love it. That is all.

You can tell it's gonna be good eats, from the moment you walk in the door. Brisket tacos were very good, juicy with lots of flavor....no need to really load them up with the "extras". The salsas are good, and you cant really go wrong with Jalapeno Ranch, that stuff can go on anything! It's a great lunch place, loud and fast....which is all good. The breakfast menu looked good too, I'll have to try that sometime.

I've sat on reviewing TJ for a while because I wanted to make sure I wasn't just buying into the hype. This means I had to force myself to make numerous trips and to eat numerous things on their menu - yes, my life is tough. First things first, they have a new Friday special called the Chuck Norris. If having something on the menu named after Walker, Texas Ranger doesn't automatically make you want to give them a five star review - you're probably a Communist. The Chuck Norris is two pulled pork tacos on flour tortillas and served with rice and beans. Despite the fact I was leaving town to go to a BBQ cookoff where I would feast on all things pig for two days, I couldn't resist. The bbq sauce mixed with the pulled pork, shredded cheese and just a little bit of jalapeno ranch put me in a food coma for most of the drive down. Almost as great was that the drippings from the taco ran into the rice and beans while I ate. . .how could that end up bad? The Disaster is a must have starter - especially if you are only with one other person and then can douse your tacos in even more delicious queso, beef, pico and guac. I've tried the brisket on three separate occasions because anyone can have a good day or a bad day and it's been consistently decent. Are there BBQ spots that make a better brisket? Absolutely, but there are also plenty of BBQ spots that fall well below TJ. As far as brisket tacos are concerned, they are the best I've found in town so far. The Lester is my third favorite - like Lance said, it's like a double decker taco you'd get at a fast food joint. . .just bigger and a million times better. The prices are fair, the people behind the counter are cool and remember you after a couple visits - that goes a long way with me. Consistently good food and fair prices are next on the list and they kill it there too. I've also had the luck of getting a spot right in front of the door on every visit - Taco Joint, we were meant to be.

I come here at least once a week for lunch and seriously Cory and all the guys back there are so frickin amazing it's unbelievable. Last week we stopped by for lunch but the power had gone out & Cory came to tell us they're gonna sell what they have but we might wanna go somewhere else for lunch. WHO DOES THAT?? They are just good peoples. I just wanted to give him a big hug. Everything I've tried here is phenomenal. Brisket tacos are juicy, delicious, overflowing with deliciously tender meat. The chicken tortilla soup combo is a serious deal, a healthy portion of soup (and they aren't stingy with the avocado) with your choice of taco and a drink for $8 with tax. Everyone can find something to love here. Not to mention the jalapeno ranch, no TJ didn't invent this but they perfected it and it's serve yourself so you can take shots of it if you want, not that I have of course. We've gotten free chips & queso for anniversaries, birthdays, engagements, etc. The food never disappoints. This place deserves nothing less than 5 stars. Taco Joint is the very best at being a taco joint. See you at lunch!

Chuck Norris. Seriously. It's the new Friday special, a pulled pork taco. And yes, it lives up to the greatness inherent to the name. Now I understand the slightly sticky floors. I won't go into great detail, but I had ONE. BITE. of LeighP's taco (heh) and what happened next rhymes with schmizz in my schmants. Go getcha some.

Best breakfast tacos in Dallas. The staff is very friendly and is always willing to help. I once brought my young niece and nephew (who are kind of a handful) and the owner actually brought the food to our table so I wouldn't have to get up. ***Their sauces for the tacos are fantastic. Personal favorite: the jalapeño ranch flavor.

  • Foodfinatic B.

SUPER over-rated. I mean it's not bad, but definitely not deserving of the line it has not the reviews. Jalapeño ranch? Tastes amazing - for a salad or burger maybe - not a taco! Disaster queso dip would deserve 4 stars itself, but I'd never go to a taco joint (no pun intended) just for their queso. Brisket tacos - meh, spicy pork - meh, Lester - basically identical to a double decker taco at taco bell except taco bell also gives you sour cream, otherwise flavor-wise the same thing. Especial chalupa - meh. Again, it's not a BAD spot, just not as good as reviews say. And not a place I would frequent, or probably add to my list of restaurants I have to go to if I ever leave Dallas and come back and visit. 100% Fuel City has this place beat.

I love the breakfast food at this place. The 5-alarm breakfast burrito is the best in town and you certainly won't be alone ordering chips and queso with your am meal. But I have a serious bone to pick . . . It's never open!! Took the sister in law on the day after thanksgiving--closed. Ok, I get it. Tried to go on NYE morning--closed. Are you kidding me?!? You're only open through lunch anyway, sheesh. For some reason they operate this place on the US Postal Service holiday calendar and that just doesn't work for the service industry. Anyone who's been here on a Saturday can tell you how much money they lose by not being open on Sunday.

Such a great place...I can't believe it took me this long to find this place! The food is delicious, the service is great and the atmosphere is very cool - such a cool vibe about this place! The salsa and queso were amazing and the tacos, enchiladas and flautas were all good.

As I always say, Taco Joint, you complete me. We get Taco Joint every Friday morning, and I must say, it gets better and better every time. My favorite is the "MT" migas taco and of course a side of jalapeno ranch. I could drink that stuff, and trust me, I have. Their queso is simple yet so delicious and they have pellet ice... there is absolutely nothing wrong with this place except that they are closed on Sundays. The owners and staff are super friendly and remember our names every time we go in. Taco Joint has lead me to weight gain and high cholesterol, but I don't care. It is worth it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
