Always love eating here! My boyfriend and I eat here several times a month. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. We always have great service even when they have had big groups, super friendly staff. The bar area is in too. Try sitting there and having a class of wine if you have to wait a few minutes for a table. They have a great cabernet house wine, I recommend it. They have the best fried zucchini with delicious ranch dressing and the toasted ravioli, always a favorite for us. All their food is delicious, especially the meat ravioli and manicotti. We've also tried the filet mignon marsala and it is pretty delicious too! All the food is good, but these are just some of our favorites.

First and foremost the service was excellent! The waitress went above and beyond to take first class care of our group of four. Secondly the food was authentic and freshly made, which is of paramount importance in an Italian restaurant. The soup of the night was over the top on flavor and originality. Villa Castrioti would have collected five stars if they would not have been sold out of a couple of items on the menu. Bravo!!

Steak pizzaloa the very best ever. Pasta primavera is also excellent - and quite a large portion. Never had a bad meal here - and we eat at Villa on a regular basis. Service is always super friendly and helpful.

I been looking for a great family owned Italian restaurant since I moved from German Village in downtown Columbus, Ohio. This is a genuine Italian restaurant not a chain. Chandeliers and statues with white tablecloths and napkins. Friendly service by Aron...and I am sure the rest of the staff is equally gracious. I did not know they were only open from 11-2 pm and 5 on. I stopped by after going to physical therapy combined with dry needling today and wasn't going to cook for myself tonight as my husband is in Chicago. I ordered the scrumptious eggplant with side of spinach instead of spaghetti (gotta watch those carbs) and a small salad. Both were excellent. Portions were large and I was hungry but no appetizer or dessert. Will have to try it again next week when picking up pants at the Webb's Tailor Shop next door. I can hem expensive pants but not when my husband buys cuffed too long and wears out the bottom edge....grrr! They do a lot of large parties and are busy on the weekends so expect at least a half hour wait. Come in for early early dinner and they have no wait.

Great neighborhood atmosphere with a lot of regulars. My husband is a vegetarian and finds quite a few dishes. My favorite is the gnocchi appetizer. Open later than most places also.

As those of you that know me, I call them as I see them. I have been coming to this place since it opened. I had several special events here but in the last few years I just have not come here very often. My friend and his wife wanted my wife and I to join them for dinner here last week. This was one of the best one of the best overall experiences to date. The minestrone soup was excellent as was the eggplant. My wife's salad was very fresh and her veal piccata was very good. Service was over the top and the owner dropped by to make sure we were happy. A big plus is the wine list. Very nice selection and at reasonable prices.

VC has been here for years and can certainly understand why! We moved away, but have recently been frequenting for dinner - excellent service and food. Love the relaxed music and atmosphere - more classic with Greek columns and busts vs. the typical red, green and white decor with red and white tablecloths and artificial grapes hanging along with Christmas lights. More formal with linens and perfect lighting. Lunching it today and the white sauce pizza with mushrooms and spinach make you emit sounds of pleasure! Super thin crust -even the edges should be eaten-very light. The spinach has just the right amount of garlic to compliment the white sauce. I love to add black pepper but they offer the red pepper if you prefer. The owner is very kind and humble - loves life and the blessings bestowed.

Very tasty Italian food, with a good selection of wines as well. If I'm undecided, I go with the lasagna, with the fried cheese pieces for an appetizer. The location is interesting--in the middle of a shopping center with Panera, Kroger, and other stores. The decor inside is a little cheesy, and individual tables are a little closer to one another than I would prefer. The service has been good at times and mediocre at times, I guess it just depends who your server is or how crowded the restaurant is. Overall, good food and definitely worth trying.

"Black Friday" evening, first visit. Honestly - I really wanted to like the place. We were trying it for the first time and brought in extended family to join us. I don't really care if I come back. Greeting us upon entry was an aroma...like bleach and some type of sterile cleanser from a hospital. Granted, "clean and sterile" is better than many other smells. My four year old held his nose for the first few minutes. Our server was fine. She was nice, but lacked the air of professionalism or, "yes I trained for X amount of time to do this". It's one of those things that is hard to describe and doesn't usually come up when reflecting on an experience yet is a key element that distinguishes a good/fine/alright experience from one that makes you love a place. Lastly, and arguably most important, the food was...just...so so. I envisioned that Robert guy from "Restaurant Impossible" on the Food Network coming in and brow beating on the owner for preparing so much with canned ingredients. At the same moment, I envisioned a husband and wife who've probably been running this place for so long they don't know how to change it. That's not a personal slam - just a vision that probably keeps me from clicking 2 stars. Chris L.

Re-discovered this place a couple of months ago. Been back twice. One of the best Italian places in Memphis. I absolutely love the Chicken Francase. That mushroom cream sauce would be good on a piece of leather. Eggplant Parmigiana that my wife gets is excellent. Great atmosphere of an old time Italian restaurant.

I have used this place to have parties on a Saturday afternoon (since they are closed) and they are always VERY accommodating. The food/menu was what i chose and their service and staff are awesome. It is family owned and they work hard - as you see from the hours the work split shifts and really care about the customer. I would high recommend this restaurant for the family and a catered event.

We were in VC last night for our twelve year old twins birthday dinner, which included 6 kids all together and 2 adults. We could not have been treated better---our server was so sweet, accommodating and kept us filled with food and drinks the entire time. Our food was delicious and we had a ball. The attentive service started from the host, to the bartender, to the server...very pleased with our fun night and yummy dinner!

We visited Villa Castrioti Friday night (11/22/13). Greeted right away with a smile and a welcome. Wasn't busy when we got there but by the time we finished the place was fairly full at about 6:30-7. Our server was outstanding with a great knowledge of the menu and was nice enough to recommend BBQ places for us to try the next day. Our food came out quick and was excellent. I highly recommend the chicken marsalla over linguini (ask to hold the alfredo sauce for a lighter dish) and the lasagna was meaty and tasty. If we are ever back in the Memphis area, we will be sure to visit this place again.

It has been years since I visited this restaurant, and I wanted to take my husband to a locally-owned restaurant with good atmosphere and good food, which is how I remembered it. As we got out of our car right outside the front door, there was a big pile of vomit on the sidewalk. We mentioned it to the hostess/waitress, and she said no one would probably take care of it. My husband got spaghetti, and I ordered the Chicken Castrioti with spinach. Our salads were watery. Husband said spaghett sauce tasted like it came from a jar and the meatballs tasted like they were microwaved from frozen. My chicken was okay, but the spinach was inedible. Horrible taste. It was a cold night, and there were three tables with two servers. We waited so long for our check that the other server finally noticed us and went to find ours. When she came, she apologized, saying that she had forgotten about us. When we left, the vomit was still there. So, so disappointed.

We went to Villa Castrioti for the first time last night (a Saturday night around 7pm). We were MORE than pleased. We were blown away. Couldn't believe how much we enjoyed EVERYTHING we ate as well as the best service (our server was Sally - she's amazing!) we've had in as long as we can remember. We had fried zucchini for an appetizer - delicious, lightly breaded, cooked al dente. House salad with incredible (thick, best I've ever had, and homemade) blue cheese dressing. Greens, tomatoes and cucumber were all fresh (something I'm very picky about). My husband had chicken parmigiana with spinach. I had spaghetti with meat sauce and sausage. It was all absolutely delicious! We can't believe how much we loved everything we ate. From the homemade marinara, to the plump, juicy, perfectly seasoned chicken breast (that seemed huge), al dente spinach cooked with a bit of fresh garlic and olive oil, and the spaghetti with meat sauce (to which I added a bit of their homemade alfredo sauce, which was divine). We can't rave enough about this place. We're so happy we found it! It immediately went to the top of our list of favorite restaurants. It's right next to Houston's (on top of our list, not location). We're very happy, satisfied customers who will be returning regularly.

OK, so what happened? Did we show up too early? We met a friend for dinner at 5:30. Did that lump us in with the old crowd that eats early? We were not provided with a wine list - are we too old to drink wine? Even though we came from the bar with glasses of whiskey? What gives? We had heard enough from other reviews that this restaurant was supposed to be really good, but we found it underwhelming. I found the menu a bit on the small side. I was looking for an Osso Bucco or something like that, but I found nothing adventurous on the menu. Service was mediocre. Food too. Not like we asked for anything really hard to cook. Spaghetti and meatballs, a menu item that's bread and butter for a good Italian Restaurant. On top of that the soup was watery, not much in it. I had to break up the clumps of rice. It was like it had recently been thawed, but not quite enough. The desserts, pretty small. Hardly shareable. Given the middle of the road quality of the food and service, I found the prices to be on the high side. And I'm not even making any jokes or comments about the size of the parking spaces in the parking lot. I have said before in other reviews, there are too many other good restaurants with reasonable prices that overshadow this one.

What I like the most about Villa Castrioti's is the friendly service I always get when I go. They treat you like family there. They serve up all the traditional types of Italian dishes, and they are all good. Maybe not extraordinary, but consistent. What I really like though are the crab legs. It's a little unusual for an Italian place to offer these, but I'm telling you, they are very very good! Also, on Wednesday nights, a local Memphis musician, Pat Register, plays the sax and sings in the bar. He starts around 8:30 and usually pulls in a decent crowd. I go quite often to hear him and hang out with my friends. If you go, here's a tip. Get there around 7, before it gets too busy. Ask for a table in the bar area. Then you can order dinner and have a nice spot for enjoying the music afterward.

Villa Castrioti is located in a strip mall off of a main thoroughfare in Cordova, a suburb of Memphis. When we first arrived I was extremely impressed for two reasons. First of all, it was packed. Almost every table was filled. Also, the decor was extremely elegant. However, the host did not seem to fit the decor as he was wearing very baggy jeans, grungy tennis shoes, and an over-sized purple and white striped polo shirt. Since all of the waitstaff were wearing standard white tops and black pants, I originally mistook the host for a customer waiting for takeout. We were seated promptly, but it took several minutes for a server to come by and bring us water, and several more minutes for our waitress to greet us and take our drink orders. Our server's blouse was about 2-3 sizes too small, the last two buttons seemed to be missing, and this left her shirt gaping open and her stomach hanging over her pants...not very appetizing. For an appetizer we ordered the gnocchi. The portion size was very good for an appetizer; the gnocchi had great texture-very light and fluffy. It was served with a white sauce that I found to be pretty bland, but my husband thought it was tasty. The first time I go to an Italian restaurant, I try to order a simple, classic, pasta dish because I love pasta, and if they can't do the simple stuff well, then the more intricate dishes probably won't be any good either. A simple pasta dish also helps me determine how good their sauce is, and lets me know if they use high-quality ingredients. With this in mind, I ordered baked ziti for my entrée. At Villa Castrioti, the baked ziti consists of penne tossed with marinara sauce and ricotta cheese, and finished with melted mozzarella. My ziti was mediocre at best. While the pasta was perfectly al dente, the sauce was extremely watery and very, very bland. The only part worth eating was the part that was covered with melted mozzarella. After three or four bites, the mozzarella was pretty much gone, leaving a plate of watery noodles, that I found pretty much inedible. Now, my husband ordered the seafood pizza (the daily fish selection with your choice of white or red sauce). He chose the white sauce, and while that was probably the best choice for the type of pizza it was, he found the pizza to be pretty terrible. There was an overwhelming flavor of lemon, and the chunks of fish were so large that when he picked up the slice, they fell off. On a positive note, even though the pizza was fairly expensive, there was so much seafood on the pizza that he definitely felt as though he got his money's worth. Final Impressions: This meal was pretty terrible. After reading the reviews, we had high expectations. I didn't even order dessert. However, the complimentary bread was tasty, and the texture on the gnocchi appetizer was perfect. That being said, we won't be coming back. It hurt to spend over $50 on such a terrible meal.

Very disappointing. Haven't been here in 17 plus years. Wasn't impressed then but decided to give it another try since it has been around for more than 17 years. We were seated right way. The waitress was a long time coming. It was busy and there only appeared to be two servers. The crowd was made up of an older crowd and the "Sex in the City" crowd. Kinda different. Very loud. Long wait to order. Toasted ravioli appetizer consisted of exactly 3 raviolis. Another wait for dinner. Not impressed with our entrees. Baked Ziti ok but not very favorable. Lasagna was good in my opinion but didn't please my daughter. Was more than ready for the check by the time we left. An hour and a half that felt much longer. Maybe we will try again in another 17 years, not before.

Seeing Tiffany's 1 star review reminded me of a recent experience here. Our server was a young boy and he was, by far, one of the worst I've had in a long time. He may have been on drugs...I don't know. We like to have our cocktail, look over the menu, and talk...all he wanted to do was get EVERYTHING put in the system at once. No pacing, whatsoever. It got comical, as he was back at our table every 2-3 minutes. We both had the fettucini alfredo and were pleased with it. (The veal picatta is still my fav. though) We'll go back for the food and because it's the only decent Italian in Cordova, but I did want to mention that management needs to tighten up the front of the house. You can't rest on your food alone.

Had the spaghetti and meatballs. While eating, I was really thinking that the sauce was no better than I have gotten out of a store bought jar. I'm sure that spaghetti and meatballs is not their top seller, but if it on the menu, I want it to be awesome. The price / value was OK for what we had. Staff was nice.

Went here for Mother's Day dinner. A bit disappointed in the taste of the food. Very bland. It was quite expensive for mediocre food. The only stand out was the free bread which was quite delicious. Would have to pass on a re-visit.

the veal picatta is the best thing on the menu for sure- way better than chicken ( i tried to save a few bucks and it was NOT worth it ). its a nice place and has lots of loyal regulars. cute little bar. Good bet if you want to eat in that part of town where there are few non- chain choices.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
