Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Amazing authentic tacos. Can't find any better in Chattanooga for the price! I had the two taco combo (Mexicanos) with Carnitas and Barbacoa with rice and beans as the sides that come with the combo. Everything was delicious and simple. The service is always friendly and fast. Both of their locations are small, and I like that, but when it's busy it can get quite crowded. At this location, my suggestion is to have a "to go" order window (which they have a window but didn't seem to be using) which opens to the outside; then only those needing to fill drinks or place orders for "dining in" can go inside. It would solve the hectic problem during lunch hours. Other than that problem, Taqueria Jalisco is outstanding.

I end up here a couple of times a month it seems like and the food is consistently delicious. The best meals have been the specials (pollo verde, chimichanga, and the one with chicken, peppers and grilled pineapple). They will also let you order the specials even if it's not "on the board" that day. The upgrade to 5 stars is due to the green salsa and for the breakfast burrito. The latter is the closest thing I've found in Chattanooga to legit breakfast tacos in Houston. The chorizo burrito with beans is top notch and it's a good size for $4. Also, while I don't think Yelp or Google reflects it, they open at 8am to serve breakfast until 11am.

My lunch walk took me a different direction today, and I spotted this place across Miller Plaza. Just a tiny little store-front with one large family-style table plus a few doubles. One of the specials on the board was Empanadas, so I stopped in and ordered lunch. I got a carnitas empanada. It came with rice and beans with a small container of tomatilla sauce, very inexpensive at $5. The crust was light and almost sweet, like a crisp pancake folded over the tender roast pork. The tomatilla sauce was very good with just a tiny bit of heat, just enough that I can still feel the spice on my lips about 10 minutes after finishing. Rice and beans were standard. It was the perfect quantity of food for a desk-driver's lunch. I will definitely be going back and trying their other options.

Love the chicken flautas. This is the little walk-in sister to Taqueria Jalisco. Great food.

One of my all time favorite Chattanooga originals, the Taqueria Jalisco is a gem for diners that appreciate simple beauty and a downtown vibe. The cozy yet clean and open space is well matched for a quick but substantial and above all delicious meal.
