You can never go wrong with the nachos. They also have a great beer selection. The wings are good also, a little spicy for me so extra ranch would be awesome. Really enjoy the chill atmosphere too.

As a vegetarian by culture, it was difficult to find similar food in the BBQ capital of the country. An amazing place with friendly staff, quick service, running library of books in a place filled with revolting art and contemporary looks. The best deal of the place is also the $2 Tuesdays for craft beer and some nice appetizers. Personal favorites are the spicy cheeky wings which can make any carnivore melt. Big fan of the good food and times served by veggies and ingredients sourced from Whole Foods Market and clean staff.

We stopped at Sluggo's North after looking for a place nearby Chattanooga, TN for lunch. OK- we got there almost at dinner time but I digress. The counter person was very patient with us as we asked questions and decided what we wanted for our meal. Once our order was placed, our food was served quickly and piping hot. I ordered the Mushroom Walnut Burger- and would not hesitate to order it again. Both our meals were tasty. The only thing that I felt was a bit odd was my garlic mashed potatoes were "somewhat" mashed also known as "chunky" but they were yummy and I didn't mind the extra chewiness. In the final analysis, two clean plates told the story! Other reviewers mentioned the decor, which is what I would describe as "avant-garde" with original art pieces on the wall and strong colors everywhere. Certainly this could be off-putting to some people, but I prefer to think of this style as "progressive" which matches the neighborhood which seems to be in a renaissance from long-abandoned warehouses being transformed into attractive lofts and interesting new shops. Also it is plainly stated in the name that this is a _Cafe_ which at least to me implies that the decor could be anything and everything. I enjoyed the artsy and collegiate-ish clientele who added some color to the dining area, and we enjoyed the quirky classic pop music on the sound system. After a shift change I have to comment that the rap-reggae mash-up music was not my style but tolerable while I finished my 16 oz Rolling Rock. We live quite a long drive from the up and coming (appearing?) neighborhood that Sluggo's North is located in, but if they were nearby, we would certainly be regulars because of the great food and friendly service. If you are not necessarily a "vegetarian", there is a lot to enjoy at Sluggo's North including the super fresh bread used in the sandwiches and the crisp vegetables used in the salads and sandwiches. Please give them a try with an open mind and I feel that you will enjoy what you order.

Had some vegan friends over from Costa Rica this past weekend. Looked around to see if I could find someplace to take them and came across Sluggo's. It doesn't look like much from the outside. It does have tables outside so you can enjoy the weather when it's good. The interior is quite eclectic with a nice divey charm that I like. We ordered hummus plates and a couple of "Golden Bowls" with some Apple Pie sodas (Amazing!). The food arrived promptly with the assistance of their friendly staff. I'm not a vegan nor a vegetarian but the Golden Bowl was crazy good (I wasn't expecting good at all being the meat eater I am...). The hummus was super fresh and tasty. Definitely worth checking out and I will be back again!

This was a pretty solid place. The vegan buffalo wings are delicious. Everything was delicious, actually. I got a Philly cheese steak and a veggie plate with mashed potatoes, curry lentil soup, and a salad. All of it was tasty and inexpensive. I think it was $15 for all of that. The cheese steak was delicious even though it didn't actually taste like a cheese steak. It also has a spacious dining area and the food comes out quickly. I definitely recommend Sluggos.

The atmosphere fits in well with the Chattanooga culture--very hipster and outdoorsy lifestyle. The food was good! We had an afternoon filled with activities outside so we grabbed a beer and something to snack on. The hummus was really tasty and fresh! It's a safe way to go if you're a bit intimidated by vegetarian cuisine. We also got the buffalo seitan "wings". Not my cup of tea but my boyfriend loved them. Overall, came here because of the great reviews and have nothing bad to say!

I would give an extra star if the wait wasn't so long. There was only one cashier and the wait for the food took forever. My club sandwich was massive and I loved every bite of it. Hubby got the philly cheese steak and said it was good! He didn't like the mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy though. Said something was just off. The veggie potstickers had a distinct Vietnamese food taste and smell that I don't prefer compared to Japanese and Korean dumplings. No picture included because we were sitting in complete darkness in a corner. Would have preferred some light ;)

Sluggo's is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Chattanooga, TN! I've seriously eaten there at least 2 dozen times and never had a meal I didn't love. Now if you didn't read the restaurant's name closely you may have missed the emphasis on 'vegetarian' but do not let that scare you! I've taken several friends here, in particular the more opening minded ones, and while I know normally they are meat & potatoes kind of eaters they also found Sluggo's to be as delicious as I did even sans meat. If you're looking for a fantastic brunch spot Sluggo's is perfect for that too! Usually I'll see their brunch special(s) posted on their Facebook page and always, whether I can or not, feel pulled to go there right then. Speaking of specials they often have off-menu items that are written up on a whiteboard, and what I love about these and what it says about Sluggo's is that the items are so fresh! In fact you may miss out on an item because they get just enough ingredients to make so many of each item on the 'specials' board. So you might get there and see one crossed out or erased entirely if you're not fast enough! So whether you're looking for a nice spot to eat at alone and relax on a busy day, or if you have a group of friends looking for a healthier vegetarian/vegan friendly brunch location then Sluggo's should be your restaurant of choice!

Huge menu, huge portions. Both meat substitutes and plenty of original dishes. Fun environment, too. Great for hipsters.
(5)Sara L.
Homemade veggie-based deliciousness! Have enjoyed Harry's nutritional yeast topped chili, sweet potato hash, and a mushroom burger so far + the punk rock diner feel adds some flavor.

If you are always struggling to find vegan food this place not only has "vegan" it has the kind of variety you don't find in most places. I'm gonna have to go back there many, many times if I want to try everything they have to offer. Me and my boyfriend bought three entrees: Pan Handler, Spinach and Sweet Potato Enchiladas, and the Curry Bowl. Then we had coffee and Banana Foster Cake for desert. All of it was off the chain! Im a vegan and he's generally a high class garbage disposal when it comes to food but even he was excited with the taste and variety- not just the amount he could shovel in. Affordable prices and "American" portion sizes equalled a great deal. We had lots of left overs even after eating our fill. I'm just sad we were passing through Chatanooga on our way home to New Orleans cause I would definitely be a loyal, regular customer!!!

Found Sluggos via yelp while passing through the area on a road trip. By all of the amazing reviews, you'd think it was a bucket list type of restaurant, the kind you feel you have to get to at some point. I think it's worth stopping in but I wouldn't go out of my way again. The good: The food was pretty good, but not incredible. They have a small outdoor seating area. Fair amount of dish options. Huge portions Fresh Reasonably priced The bad: The food was pretty good, but not incredible. If you sit inside (due to cold or inclement weather like we had to), prepare to reek. Our clothes, hair, and now the car all smell like a diner. Unfortunately, we have a 7 hour drive ahead of us still and the smell is borderline unbearable. Our view from the window seat was of an abandoned motel and construction lot, although it was close to a cute spot. I'd say the location was fair. Lastly, almost every dish was soy based. Tofu or seitan mainly, no tempeh or abundant vegetables, however they were very easy to work with. Overall, I'd say if you live in the area & want some good vegan food, definitely check it out! If your passing through & have had epic vegan food (ie Wild Cow in Nashville) then I would say take advantage of the other cute parts of town and grab a bite at a different local restaurant.

Nice to find a place that caters to the meatless. Had the spinach hummus warp. It was great. There are many more choices that sounded good. I will be trying on my next several visits.
(4)Eduardo C.
To start, tried the pesto bruschetta appetizer , which of course has fresh tomatoes with toasted baguettes, but uses pesto aoli and almond parmesan to make things interesting. Despite a crowded day, the appetizer came out swiftly. The toasted baguette was fresh and made for a nice base. Good appetizer overall but I thought the pesto could use a little more kick. For the main course I ordered the specialty Seitan Meatloaf topped with a tomato gravy, served with garlic mashed potatoes topped with a mushroom gravy and a side of sour dough toast. Wow, what a stupendous job on the meatloaf... There's a blast of onion, tomato, and pepper flavors enhanced by a multitude of spices that are absent in most real meat loafs! The seitan was a great choice as a meat substitute and had a nice browned texture on the outside. Spuds were also nicely done but the loaf takes the crown.

Sluggo's is pretty great. It, to me, is the best vegetarian/vegan spot in town (beats out Cashew, slightly). They have some tasty specials and good options for folks who might be wary of getting away from meats. Pros: Tasty, huge portions. Their specials are phenomenal. The staff is great if you elect to talk with them. Cons: Sometimes service can be a little nonchalant. Also, the atmosphere doesn't give you the cleanest feeling. Overall: Super tasty and great value vegetarian option for someone who's feeling a bit adventurous. Get it to go and you don't have to worry about the atmosphere of the place!

I love this place! I wish it were in Nashville! Amazing food, amazing creativity, great diner feel. If I could give it 10 stars I would! I'm getting in the car now to go there. PLEASE open on in Nashville!

This place rocks. Sluggo's existence was a significant factor in our move to Chattanooga (seriously). As vegans, obviously my boyfriend and I love this place. But we've also taken visiting carnivores here, and they absolutely adored it. They still talk about it, months later. Essentially, this place is only incidentally vegan. The most notable thing about eating here is that they do a wide variety of "craving" food very, very well. The dishes are super flavorful and the portions are huge. If you didn't know ahead of time that you were eating vegan food, you would never guess it. Brunch rocks - think sweet'n'savory waffle sandwiches, plus great versions of all the traditional fare. For lunch/dinner they do awesome cheesy Mexican food, American stuff like burgers with fried pickles, or fusion fare like a pesto quesadilla. The "panhandle tofu" is just like fried catfish, with grits & delicious griddled cornbread on the side. This place proves that veggie food isn't always health food. If you're in the mood for something lighter, try one of their rice bowls or the caesar salad. You can also create a plate of sides, which you can make as light (steamed greens) or non-light (baked ziti) as you want. But if you're here, why not live it up with something fried or smothered in gravy? Keep in mind - this place is a diner. It smells like a diner. It's the cleanliness level of a diner. It's the healthiness level of a diner. If you're looking for super virtuous food, check out Cashew. But if you're looking for awesome "splurge" food, go to Sluggo's. It's the kind of food you would find at a greasy dive, except much more thoughtfully executed, with more complicated flavors and better ingredients. And since they have a wide variety of options done well, it's a crowd pleaser even if your crowd is in the mood for different types of food. All for a great price given the portion size you get. Keep up the good work, Sluggo's!
(5)Lisa M.
Foods really good! The zucchini griddle cakes are delish! And the curry lentils just right. The service is alright you order at the counter. We got our food in a timely manner.

Firstly, Thanks to another reviewer who mentioned about Wi-Fi being available - I was stuck in bad traffic and then needed to do some work for a client. Connectivity, dinner time and the location - nothing could have worked for the better... The menu is impressive and so are the people. All in all, be in the area - don't miss it if you are in the area. Food is fairly priced and the service is good!

If you've been a vegetarian long enough to forget what good food tastes like, this is for you. Walking in I made eye contact with a server but received no information on what to do. Order from the bar area. Some brownish red haired guy threw plates and silverware around long enough realize he may not have a great day. After waiting 15 min I got 5 pieces of tofu with some sauce. Took 1 bite and wished this choice had not been so bad. 2 people and and an appetizer cost 25 with no drink. The food was tasteless so it is important to immediately grab salt and multiple sauces for your table. It was kinda fun counting the number of fat naked girl paintings on the wall.

Let me start by setting the scene. It was an ominous, cloudy day. The sun, bashful, hid behind its fluffy, gray sheets, waiting to become less shy. I arrived after a 2 hour drive in Chattanooga, weariness hanging on me like a wilted piece of organic kale stuck to the door of the refrigerator. Before I continued my odyssey, I craved some vegan manna to lift my spirits. Sluggo's provided the perfect break. It has a laid-back, casual, fun atmosphere, and all the staff is willing to banter playfully with you. Some notable dialogue: "What's your favorite on the menu?" "Everything." "Everything?! And your least favorite?" "Nothing!" "And if I had a gun to your head and forced you to choose?" "We'd call the police and have you arrested. This is a respectable establishment." He went on to give me some fantastic recommendations. You get a lot for your money. The lentil-mushroom burger: heavenly. The golden bowl with portobello: I still have embarrassing dreams about it. There's free wi-fi and comfortable seating, so you can definitely plant, eat a bunch of plants, and relax. Will definitely be back!!
(5)Rebekah D.
This was my second visit to Sluggo's, the first having been about 3 years ago with a vegan friend. It's still as good as I remembered! I'm a carnivore, but this completely vegan restaurant is delicious. My husband and I both enjoyed our meals (hummus, the burrito, and the Portobello bowl). They also have 6 taps which feature local and domestic beers. Only 4 stars instead of 5 because the service is lacking and I felt that some items in the dishes were over salted. This is definitely a great place for vegans and non-vegans alike, and I'd go back again when in Chatt.
(4)Scottie A.
I am not a vegetarian, but after hearing about Sluggo's I just had to give it a try. The portions were very generous and the price more than reasonable. On top of that, the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere relaxing and eclectic. Sluggo's smashes the misconception that vegetarian dinning is bland and boring. Be sure to give the potstickers a try.
(5)Lou C.
Sluggo's is fast and reasonably priced. The food is fresh and good (NACHOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's all I get ever) and the service is friendly. When I have to go to Chattanooga the nachos are my favorite part of my trip (don't tell anyone that though).
(5)Marcus B.
I'm not a vegan and I have no plans of changing that any time soon. However, I have never eaten at a place that made such a convincing argument for being a vegetarian! The service was really good. The staff was friendly and helped answer all of our questions about the food. The cashier even let us try this dish whose name escapes me at the moment (Apple ginger something). I ordered the Golden Bowl which was just perfect. I wish I knew the seasoning that was used on the eggplant. It was phenomenal. I could eat this dish all day, every day. I usually avoid vegetarian places because of the skimpy portion sizes... However, this place was extremely generous with their portions. I am forever grateful for this business decision. My lady had the Hummus Plate and the Chef's Salad with the Tahini Goddess dressing. She loved the dressing and would drink it from a gourd if possible. The hummus plate was out of control. I loved the olives and the peppers (on the side) were a great addition. I can't believe this place is such a well kept secret. It's certainly my favorite place to eat at the moment. And I loved the art work!!

Tipped off by the Yelp rating, we pulled into Sluggo's in the middle of a long road trip, and it was the best meal and one of the best experiences of the whole vacation. First off, the food. The portions were substantial, so don't take decisions about sides and appetizers lightly. And the quality was outstanding. Serious comfort food, sparing no calories, no flavors. The ingredients stood out though, not just creating a bland reconstruction of your favorite meat-centric meals, but crafting a hearty meal that showcased how damn good a lentil burger can be when combined with caramelized onions and rye bread. Every bite was excellent. Then there was our server, Billy, who guided us through the menu, but also gave us pointers on sight seeing in Chattanooga (and, yes, Rock City is irresistible no matter how kitsch-adverse), insight into booking your best flight and hotel deals, and generally left us with the impression we were picking up a conversation that we must have started weeks beforehand. Very grateful to have met him. Sluggo's is a standout, and at least half the reason we're formulating another trip to see what we may have missed in our brief trip through Chattanooga.
(5)Lindsey G.
This is definitely my favorite veggie friendly place in Chattanooga! I'm not vegan but the lentil patty melt with their vegan cheesy sauce is amazing! It's probably my favorite thing on the menu, but I admit because I love it so much I haven't tried too many other options. They have a special posted every day which never disappoints and have constantly changing and interesting dressing options for salads. The only thing that might not be appreciated is the service, but it is definitely a cafe. I believe it technically falls into the "fast casual" category. Which basically means you order at the counter, they bring you your food, and then you're basically on your own. I don't mind that at all though. It's got a vibrant atmosphere which might turn some people off but they have a small outdoor seating area if that's the case. I would recommend it to vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike! It's just so yummy.
(4)Steve M.
First off, you've gotta know I love this place. It is one of the few places you can get vegetables in C-Town and know it hasn't been cooked in some sort of lard. Every thing is as fresh as it gets and it's well prepared. The service is very nonchalant. People complain about it because they don't expect it. You order at the bar and they bring it to your table. That's pretty much the last interaction you'll have with a staff member. It is a cafe in the truest sense of the word. Inside, the dining area is clean... However, it's dated. It's kind of like what you would expect if a group of your hipster friends decided to open a restaurant on a budget. Some folks might be turned off by this, however... don't be. Go for the food and nothing else. The food... So very good! You will find nothing like these dishes in town. I went through a vegetarian phase and this was my spot when I wanted a special treat.
(4)Snow W.
Agent Sluggo (and his Merry Friends) offer us Taste Humpers a Sun Blasted Dive into Chattanooga's enlightened underbelly. With a benevolent bounty of Subversive Cries for Homegrown Art and Sustainable Veggies. I tried the Lentil Patty Melt. And it was sticky laced divine. Stuffed with Flavor. I washed it down with Hard Cider.
(4)Kyle T.
Big portion and super delicious
(4)Joy A.
I'm not sure how this place is so highly rated. I'm a vegetarian and have had ready good vegetarian food. We walked in and the waiter didn't look at us just walked back into the kitchen without telling us anything. So we seated ourselves and then realized you order at a counter. The waiter was not ever helpful. He seemed like he was mad at the world. The food not so good either. We got the wings as an appetizer, tacos, and a burrito. Instead of salt they used spiciness-too much of it. The avocados used had nasty brown spots all through them. I won't be going back. There are too many other good eats in Chattanooga.
(2)Emily H.
The BEST vegan food In Chattanooga! Unfortunately the service seems to be lacking. I recently ordered a to go order with my friend, and while sitting in the restaurant I saw my to go order be placed in the window. I proceeded to wait for 15 minutes while the person working the front took other people's orders and ignored my order In the window. I sat starring at my order and trying to make eye contact with the man to notify him that my order was ready. I also contemplated just walking up and taking my order from the window myself to avoid inconveniencing him. My friend then decided to go tell the man that our food was in the window, in which the man got the food and handed it to my friend very rudely without saying a word nor putting it in a bag. No apologies, no acknowledgment, no bag. I dearly love sluggos and find it unfortunate that it's wonderful food is being overshadowed by such situations.
(3)Johnny V.
I spent the weekend in the area and made my way to Sluggos three times, including Sunday brunch! Everything was delicious, I tried Black Bean burger, which was on special and should be added to the full time menu. The brunch was amazing, filling, great coffee too. My last trip I got the Sluggos Burrito, as I had my eye on it on the menu from my first visit. The burrito was my favorite. It was large, and I had to eat the whole thing all at once. The cheese and sauce was incredible. I wish I could have Sluggos every day! Great selection of beers as well, cannot loose with Sluggos, damn I am really hungry now!
(5)EJ F.
They didn't have any satan left, on a Friday, at 5 pm? What kind of a veggie restaurant runs out of satan? The rude guy at the front counter was very casual about it, and unpleasant to a customer on the home, asking, "did you want me to read the whole menu to you" and then actually beginning. I can't tell if he was slow or rude or both :(
(1)Madeline S.
I would have to echo the reviews here and say that the food is out of this world. I'm not a vegetarian but I'm happy to eat veggies here. I had the walnut burger with russian dressing, the sweet potato mash and the Caesar salad. The Caesar was delicious and the walnut burger was flavorful. The sweet potato mash was ok, I'd like to try the collards next. Very good! Will be back.
(4)Kim W.
This place was amazing! I went with my omnivorous husband, and we both loved it. The zucchini fritters were delicious and could have been a meal unto themselves. I got the pecan crusted seitan with greens and mashed potatoes. Husband got the sweet potato enchiladas. We both enjoyed our orders and it was way too much food for one sitting. We had to get to-go boxes. LOVE this place!
(5)Patty D.
Everything is vegan. It was really good. I had the Caesar with tofu and added avocado. A+ on that. I also had a cup of the chili. Also good. Nick had the black bean burger with pineapple salsa and it looked delish! Dwight liked it well enough also. They have beer here as well. Prices are reasonable.
(5)Randy C.
Been back a few times now and the food is consistently excellent. We have tried the various specials like the Asian Postickers, the Club sandwich and the black bean burger. The vegan french onion soup. The house salad with the special goddess dressing. Oh my god the dressing is good. All excellent. Great service. Just wish I lived closer.
(5)Mia B.
Sooo good. Husband is not a vegetarian and he always wants to go here. He got jackfruit tacos this time. I love getting the lentil patty and got it again this time. It is a hole in the wall restaurant with various revolving art. Great place. Also, it was open until ten and we got into town late,so that was nice.
(4)Shawn L.
Whenever you order from here, tell them to go easy on the seasoning. I just had the Berliner sandwich but I was unable to finish it just because it was way too salty. Quite disappointed that this quality food has to go to waste just because it was way too salty.
(3)Holly P.
This place is so full of awesome. Amazing and super healthy food. The service is excellent as well. Definitely hit them up for brunch.
(5)Shawn W.
The best vegan food I have tasted in a very long time. A must visit when you are Tennessee.
(5)Chris B.
Loved the food here! Ordered the walnut lentil burger and the curries lentils. Together with the veggie pot sticks this made for an excellent meal. My friends ordered the hummus plate and the Philadelphia cheese stake (made with seitan of course). Everything very nice too. Looked like they had a wide array of beers on tap and would love to come back here for dinner some time in the near future! Highly recommended.
(4)Michelle S.
Good place for vegetarians on a road trip (that's us!). Big portions, local soda (and beer).
(4)Sandy W.
WOW- Yum!! In town visiting a friend and found this place. It's so damn good. I have a huge weakness for southern cooking and this place hit the spot. Loved the pecan crusted seitan with mushroom gravy, cornbread, and greens. I wish I lived here so I could try more of the menu.
(5)Steve K.
Great food. We are not vegans but like it when we can find it. This was one of the best meals we have had. Had the portobello quesadillas, the pecan dusted sextant, and the panhandle Tofu. Everything was very flavorful, not heavy or spicy. Would definitely stop in next time we are in town
(4)Derrick P.
My family are a mixture of vegetarians and carnivores... nobody leaves Sluggo's unhappy. The atmosphere is simple and friendly. There is a menu, but we rarely order from it as they have a constantly rotating board of specials that keep us interested. Root Beer on tap is also a special treat when we're eating there (though they do have real beers available as well).
(5)Paige D.
Loved this place! In town for work and found this on yelp. I'm not a vegetarian but just a healthy eater. Vegetarian places are usually creative & have lots of unique, healthy options and this place did not disappoint. The sweet potato spinach enchiladas were amazing!
(5)Chaz S.
Delicious. Pleasant atmosphere. Soft music. Unique decor. The menu states that almost everything is made in-house and also local and organic when possible. Easy access from the road, large parking lot behind the building. We ordered the tofu BBQ sub w/ garlic mashed potatoes and the sweet potato/spinach enchiladas. Both were wonderful.
(5)Reaghan G.
It's refreshing to be able to eat ANYTHING on the menu. As a vegetarian, I find it quite difficult to find many vegetarian options at larger chain restaurants. While it is a tad expensive, it's well worth it. The food and drinks are local, delicious, and healthy! I will be returning. The atmosphere at Sluggo's is very unique. My boyfriend said it reminded him of a Tim Burton movie. The set up is nice and the servers are very friendly. We ordered the wings, and they were quite delicious. For our entrees, we had BBQ sandwiches and it's probably the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. I had the sweet potato mash for my side and I've never had sweet potatoes like that before. Sluggo's is probably the best vegetarian/vegan option in Chattanooga.
(5)Jennifer E.
I am neither vegan nor vegetarian. Neither are my husband and 2 daughters. (At some point, we were, though.) I enjoy vegan meals because it's a nice break from the "meat monotony." My husband suggested Sluggo's because we're fans of local restaurants. The food was delicious! I had the pecan-dusted seitan and it was perfect! Even my daughters (ages 1 and 4) inhaled the nachos!
(5)Amanda T.
It was the end of a long day and a group of us called in a to go order. I was so hungry and we thought we'd let the vegetarian in the group pick. I often eat vegetarian so I was completely fine with the choice. I ordered a side salad, mushroom walnut burger, and mashed potato with mushroom gravy. It would have been four stars but I had to knock it down because of the giant hair in my sandwich. It was ordered to go and I did say it was a long day so I pulled it out and THREW IT ON THE GROUND. My burger was good, my salad was a normal salad, and by the time I got to my mashed potatoes I was grossing myself out. The potatoes were fried then mashed. Kind of icky.
(3)Matt E.
Upon entering the restaurant there was a long line of customers waiting to order. The place had opened just a couple minutes prior to us arriving - to me the queue of loyal customers was a sign of good food. The one cashier that takes everyone's order was super friendly. It slowed down the pace of the line but the cashier was willing to work with all the new people like me to find the perfect dish. They had a variety of breakfast items and specials. For a family of 4 people we ate for under $30. The best part - every item in the restaurant is 100% vegan. It's definitely a struggle finding this type of place in Atlanta, so finding this in Chattanooga was a pleasant suprise, thanks Yelp vegans for spreading the word!
(5)Tina E.
Sluggos is vegetarian comfort food at it's best! With a small town diner feel & delicious veggie versions of things like homemade mac n cheese & chili with cornbread, it is a staple restaurant for the areas vegans, vegetarians, and anyone seeking to go meat free for a period of time. Can get crowded on the weekend so plan on coming early. Great place to call in to go order also. Ginger Soy salad dressing is the bomb!
(4)Gabrielle D.
Having come after the lunch rush, I was pleasantly surprised to see it was quiet and clean after reading all of these reviews. We were extremely hungry and were really looking forward to some hearty vegetarian dishes. The gentleman behind the counter was knowledgable about what someone with gluten allergies could eat, and he always double checked with the kitchen, which made me feel very relieved after having been glutened at another establishment in Chattanooga. We started out with their polenta cakes, the sauce was amazing. But sadly the polenta cakes were really salty! My husband got the mushroom walnut burger and squash patties, and I got the blacked tofu salad. My husband liked his burger, though it did fall apart a bit. And the patty was lacking a bit of flavor but the sauce was a bit to salty. But it was a TON of food! He couldn't finish it all. Overall he was satisfied with the dish. As for my dish, the dressing on the salad was excellent. The tofu was pressed really well and had a great texture and flavor. Sadly it was very salty as well. The flavors and presentation were all there with the food, it was just the inconsistency of the salt that gave it a 4 star for me. I was gulping down water the rest of the day after that meal. But it was still very tasty!

Wow. This place blows Wild Cow out of the water! No pretentious hipsters. Friendly and helpful staff. Calm enviornment. REALLY great food. My boyfriend who isn't vegan even loved it. As a plus the Apple Pie Soda was awesome.
(5)Jeff C.
I could be a vegetarian if I had to be, but I really couldn't be a vegan. That said, vegan food is good for an occasional change of pace and Sluggo's is the place to get it. The curry is as good as at any Asian restaurant. The seitan will not fool you in to thinking that it is meat, but it is well flavored and seasoned and tasty in its own right.
(4)Steven C.
This is hands down the best vegan food I have ever had. They serve beer & have shows as well. Don't miss their brunch! Super good pancakes!!!
(5)Rod S.
Fantastic place. If you're a vegan, you must come here. It's so great to be able to order anything off the menu, and know it's vegan. I had the special, a Po' Bo' sandwich with a fresh crisp salad and homemade chili. I'm going back on Sunday when there's a buffet. Nothing fancy, just great food. Very near the Whole Foods grocery if you want to combine trips.
(5)Tweba H.
It's awesome. Wonderful experience. Went for brunch and I ordered the BLT while my girlfriend ordered the tofu scramble. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Price is perfect and very reasonable for the portions. Any recommendation I could make it would be to snag a pureworks soda to enjoy with your meal. Local to chatt and totally delicious and badass.

While planning an overnight trip to Chattanooga, we looked up vegan eateries in town and decided ahead of time that we would eat dinner at Sluggo's. So after a full day of tourist-y things like the aquarium and Lookout Mountain, we headed to Sluggo's, hungry as can be. The menu is fairly extensive with lots of different foods to suit most any palate, which I like. Unfortunately, a stomachache set in for me as we arrived so nothing sounded terribly good. Luckily, Sluggo's had natural sodas (root beer and ginger beer) so I drank one of those while we waited for our food, and luckily the carbonation settled my upset stomach. As we sat there we took in the surroundings... it is definitely divey, and our table was not only dirty with food from the people before, but the seats were somewhat lopsided. We made do though. Additionally, the atmosphere is very casual - order at the counter, etc. Also, there is super loud music blaring, which was kind of annoying but bearable, although I was nervous because my mother seemed to not be enjoying it. Speaking of music, it appears as though bands often play downstairs, and there was actually a show later that night. I wonder if the kitchen stays open.. Anyway, we got our food after a short wait. I ordered a wrap with sweet potato fries, and I can't remember what my family members got. But we all liked our food. Yes, liked it. Honestly, compared to all the vegan restaurants and options I have become accustomed to living to, first in San Francisco and now in Berlin, Sluggo's is a simple three stars. Good, enjoyable, but not amazing. That said, Sluggo's was probably the best vegan meal I had during my time in the south, which is saying something... it really is worth going to if you're in town. And considering the region, which is a very meat and potatoes kind of place - and just because I could see myself coming back regularly - I give it an overall 4 stars.

This was the best restaurant we tried in our two week tour of the south, with a sandwich shop in Tallahassee coming in as a close second. Everything was good. We each got the pecan-dusted seitan with mashed potatoes, collards, salad, and grilled corn muffins; for the purposes of the review, it would have been nice if we'd made distinct choices, but this was what we wanted. It was all delicious, and enough to satiate our large appetites. The seitan was spicy - perhaps too spicy for some, but fine for us. The corn muffins were incredible; I still have trouble making good vegan cornbread, but grilling really seemed to create something special. For our toddler, we got a deli pasta salad that she would have liked if she were not in the pickiest phase. We certainly thought it was good, and mild enough for most toddlers' tastes.
(5)Eddie P.
Amazing! Great atmosphere, great service, great music. Very relaxing and no matter what you order make sure you bring an appetite. The plates are a good size and full of flavor.
(5)Patrick T.
Best meal I have had on my tour, Vegan burger and mash potatoes! Rad side salad too and great staff! A must stop!
(5)Cassandra B.
I still can't believe that there is such incredible vegan food in Chattanooga, Tennessee! I totally thought I'd be stuck eating mediocre Chinese food but instead, I found myself gorging on huge plates of vegan sandwiches, pastas, and cake. Incredible! I typically like to try as many vegan restaurants as possible when I visit a city but I enjoyed my dinner here so much that I had to go back the next day for lunch. I also got another meal to go for dinner that night. Everything I had was good, but my favorite was definitely the reuben sandwich. Can't go wrong with kraut! The only thing that was weird was the carrot jalapeno "vinaigrette" that my salad came with. It was really a chunky relish and not a vinaigrette, which made the salad awkward.
(5)A S.
we ate here yesterday and we're going back for lunch today because it's great! they have Abita root beer on draft which is awesome! we got the wings which were really tasty and while I'm not a huge fan of fake meat, the seitan was delicious. The philly was kind of a weird flavor but still good. mashed potatoes an cornbread were also good. collards could definitely be cooked longer but I like mine really soft. if I lived in chattanooga I'd eat here all the time!
(5)Anjeanette I.
Great for veggies, vegans and even carnivores left full and happy. Wonderdul mushroom gravy and drinks.
(5)Jeffrey W.
Filling food. I'm not a begat arisen but it was good for vegetarian food. Loud music. Bathroom was kinda stinky.
(3)Julie H.
Excellent food, good portions, relaxed atmosphere. This is some of the tastiest food I've had in a restaurant...and I didn't feel like I was destroying my body as I ate it!
(5)Doug B.
My favorite restaurant in Chattanooga. I've never had a bad meal here and they always have some interesting beers on tap. Sometimes you have to wait awhile, but it's worth it. The vegan bowls on their menu are always good, but I recommend going with their daily specials. Kind of eye opening ... amazing to see what can be done with plant based food. I've tried to recreate some of these dishes at home with mixed success. I often joke that I should try to get a job here after I retire so I can learn the secrets. Highly recommended!
(5)Stephanie O.
As an avid lover of healthy vegan foods, I was so excited to try this place out. I wanted to love this place. I've only had one meal here but what I ordered left much to be desired. The gravy over my sautéed veggies and brown rice was so lacking in flavor that I had to add salt, twice. The sautéed veggies underneath were pretty tasty in comparison but not enough to make up for the gravy. My boyfriend tried the curry stew and felt very similar about his dish. Ever the optimist, I haven't written this place off yet, but will definitely be trying another dish the next time I go.
(2)Stan B.
We were looking for a late lunch. Happened on Sluggo's Vegetarian cafe with a little help from YELP. Could not have been more pleased. The hummus appetizer was a great was to start. I had the Lentil Patti melt and my wife had the Pot stickers. As always, we swapped bites and commented on the excellent quality and taste of each dish. Portions were good and price was very reasonable. Highly recommended!
(5)Heidi W.
This place just sort of screams "hole in the wall," but the food is absolutely delicious. My family and I stopped in on our way through at the suggestion of Yelp. We were surprised to find anything vegan/ vegetarian in an area generally assumed to be hard core southern, but whoa. My dad especially was highly impressed with the BBQ sandwich he had, so much so that he continually compares all other vegan restaurants with this one. The place was clean, service was quick and friendly (though a bit hands off), and the prices were extremely reasonable considering that we all left with full stomachs and leftovers to boot. Worth your time. Your taste buds need to come here.
(5)Wendy W.
The reviews here are really on point. We were visiting Chatt today and I traveled across town to grab some take out. Hubby had the cheeky wings and I had the potstickers then we split a burrito. Everything was amazing! I will dream of those potstickers until we can make a return trip!!!
(5)Natalie S.
The place can get "smokey" from the kitchen so sometimes it is better to sit outside, but the food is so great! I love it here. The walnut burger is delish. There are so many great food options, whether you are a vegetarian or not, you'll enjoy the meal. Brunch is offered on Sunday but I have not had a chance to try it yet.
(4)Luke T.
Beer selection is limited, but smart. Food offerings are extensive and yumcredible. I think I just made up a word. Whatever. We ordered a plate of the hummus and the same entree - the Pecan Crusted Seitan, served over potatoes with a salad and collard greens on the side, with a teeny piece of cornbread. It was great! I cleaned my plate. God, now I'm rhyming. Must...wrap...up...review. Seating is somewhat limited when it's busy, but so much so that I wouldn't wait a minute for all vegan foodstuffs. I was surprised to see New Holland's (A Michigan microbrewery) Oktoberfest on draft, so I ordered one. It was good too. Minus one star for the cashier thinking she needed to explain her Santa's Little Helper Simpsons reference to me! I got a Duff Beer tattoo, woman! Haha. Good times. As others noted, this is, oddly enough, owned and operated by the very same people who own Sluggo's in Pensacola. I found this very strange since my last trip was to Pensacola. Unfortunately, while there, we opted for another sandwich shop instead of Sluggo's. I'll have to correct this next time.
(4)Tracy W.
AMAZING FOOD! I got a garbanzo bean burger and a side of sweet potato salad and my daughter got potstickers with a side of split pea soup. It was all so delicious! The sweet potato salad was bursting with flavor! Really casual atmosphere, good prices and good choice of local and out of state beers. I'm from out of town and I will definitely be coming back!
(5)Trevor H.
Satisfying vegan food...it's not a myth! Try a special, they never fail to please me. The tap root beer is delicious as well.
(5)Whitney B.
Very interesting, casual, divey, neat little restaurant! It is so nice to have the option to go to a vegetarian restaurant, rather than order something vegetarian from an everyday restaurant. I wish my city had a place like this, although I think it would be more fitting to describe this more as a vegan restaurant. Order at the counter, and don't be shy. There's also no need to wear a fancy outfit. Go in jeans or sweats. I doubt anybody will care. The bf ordered the sweet chili Thai bowl with tofu. It was so refreshing and crisp. Although he thought it was going to be different, he was rather pleased. It had a nice ginger bite to it, without being overpowering. I went for the club deluxe, which was the winner. It gave us both a chance to go all out and have seitan, soy bacon, and tofurkey with tomatoes and avocado and all that other good stuff. I've made a dish with seitan before, but it was a disaster. I've only had him eat tofurkey in the form of hot dogs, so it was nice to be able to eat it as a sandwich. It was fabulous, except for after a while it got a little too salty. I ended up taking the 'meat' out and eating everything else. For my sides I got the curry lentil soup and a salad, both were nice. It looks like there is a Sluggo's in Pensacola. How about you come to Birmingham?
(4)Don M.
Who would have thought that a vegetarian restaurant would make some of the best mashed potatoes and gravy I've ever had! I was also very happy with the selection of beers. Bravo!
(4)Eric A.
Very good. Diner atmosphere. Friendly service with folks who seemed interested in us being there. Read the reviews, ordered the specials as suggested. Clever use of ingredients. Glad we went here. Will return.

If you are vegan or vegetarian and traveling through Chattanooga, GO HERE. While many vegetarian restaurants seem to cater to some super-upscale gourmet diner that I don't connect with, Sluggo's specializes in vegan versions of foods you'll actually recognize, and basically everything on the menu is tasty. I am addicted to the Philly Seitan sandwich. That's right, a vegan "Philly cheesesteak!" My wife is addicted to the Pecan-dusted Seitan plate, which comes with garlic mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. They change the side dishes daily. I've tried about 1/4 of the menu so far, in 8 or 10 visits, and I'm yet to find something I don't absolutely LOVE. The style is a sort of "dirtbag chic," which means the soda fountain is usually broken and you pay before they bring your food. Common in most urban areas, less common in the south. Seriously, this place is awesome. It helped convince me to move to Chattanooga.
(5)Amanda C.
Sluggo's has amazing food! I am not vegetarian so I was skeptical about eating here, but their food had so much flavor! I would recommend the sweet potato enchiladas and the curry lentil soup. My only recommendation: I wish the staff was a little more passionate.
(4)Bethany S.
Without a doubt the best place for a vegetarian meal in Chattanooga. The service is terrific and always friendly. You get a ton of yummy food for a very affordable rate which every college student can appreciate. They also have beer, local Velo coffee and true soda works. I got my boyfriend, an avid meat lover, to try some of their dishes and he liked everything aside from the no-cheese (or not cheese?) in his chili. My favorite item so far is the hummus wrap paired with their mashed potatoes and gravy, which are to die for. I sat outside Milk & Honey one day munching down on my wrap and an affogato when one of their employees stopped by to ask where I got it because it looks so good (and it is).

I was researching vegetarian restaurants in the Chattanooga area and this one came up as the top option on a list. After reading some reviews, we decided to give Sluggo's a go. When you come in, you have to go up to the counter and place your order, you'll be given a number after you'ved placed your order(if it's busy, it was not when we were there so this wasn't necessary). It is a hipster hang-out with a large photo collage on one wall but on some nights they have trivia and board game nights. When we came in, spaghetti with lentils was the day's special with a salad on the side. We both had this and it was really good! Since we won't get to come back there for awhile, I decided to order their famous Berliner sandwich to go for dinner later that night. It lives up to the hype for sure! However, a slight critique would be that the sauce on mine seemed to be a bit too salty but otherwise it was a very good sandwich. The Berliner is marinated seitan served on rye bread with sauer kraut, their Russian sauce and their vegan cheesy sauce. I will definitely have to get another one of these when we come back to Chattanooga and I do reccomend that if you're undecided that you try the Berliner.
(4)Mark M.
Wow! For not being a vegetarian, I was very impressed. Had the vegan club which was very tasty. We also had the Zucchini cakes and Saiten "wings" as an appetizer. We all loved it!
(5)Natalie J.
Had the sweet chili thai bowl, it could have used more flavor and only had...5 or 6 pieces of tofu, felt a bit gipped, but overall, it was good. Also- they ran out of tempeh but still advertised tempeh as their special for the day... The soups and chili are good. I'd give them 3.5 stars, but figured I'd round up to help out a veggie place in Chattanooga.
(4)Chuck G.
Sluggo's may look like a hole in the wall, but the food is fantastic! By far the best Vegetarian spot in Chattanooga, and you don't have to be a veggie to enjoy this place. The flavor's are amazing. Definitely recommend the Thai bowl!
(4)Melissa C.
This was a pleasant surprise! We decided last minute to stop by this place and were not disappointed. We got the Pecan Dusted Seitan with mushroom gravy, collard greens, mashed potatoes and a salad and the BBQ Seitan Sandwich with a side of chili and a salad. The staff was super friendly and everything was AMAZING. The only good southern vegan food we found in the "South." For dessert we got the gluten-free peanut butter cup and the peanut butter pie. So good! And I guess downstairs they have shows all the time, with local bands.
(5)Sarah S.
Me & hubby and my non-vegan parents were in town for a marathon I was running, and I wanted to find a vegan/vegetarian place we could eat for the big meal the night before. Boy am I glad I found this place! The food is delicious, hearty-portioned comfort food--all the greats you crave without harming animals in the process. They have a great selection of beers and desserts, too. It was so good, my hubby & parents voted to go back for my after-marathon lunch. I ordered all different menu items from the night before and was once again completely satisfied with my meal. All four of us loved the place and would be regulars if we lived closer. P.S. I highly recommend the mac & cheese.

On a recent one-night trip to Chattanooga, my wife and I ate at Sluggo's after the clerk at our hotel recommended it, and boy are we glad she did. I'm not a vegetarian, but I found the menu at Sluggo's to be very appealing. I had a spicy Asian-influenced dish that left me happy and satisfied. Sluggo's offers a very casual, hip setting and a fun selection of beers, many of which I'd never seen before. Just across the river from downtown, Sluggo's is very much worth the short trip if you're staying near the city center.
(4)Misty K.
Right. What else can be said? Vegan or Not Vegan - You will love this place. Incredibly friendly staff, reasonable prices, huge portions, and some of the best vegan food I have ever had. I make a point of eating at vegan-friendly places when I travel, and this place stands out above all the rest, easily.
(5)Hali M.
Absolutely delicious! Such huge satisfying and healthy portions! My huge carnivorous boyfriend even enjoyed it. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer and they were seriously the best nachos I've ever had. Also, I love how deliciously fresh all the ingredients are and the great range of flavors in each dish. We will be returning and I highly recommend this place :)

Oh, I sooo wanted to love this place. Supporting vegan businesses, I wish I could give each one of them a 5. Knowing we would be visiting Chat, I asked my vegan friends in Atlanta to recommend a restaurant, & got some emphatic recommendations for Sluggo's. The Good: - Prices were very reasonable. - Nice art on the walls & great decor in general. - Very friendly service. - My husband got the philly, & deemed it to be excellent. - I had a raspberry bar from the specials menu as a to go dessert, & it was delicious! it had the texture of an apple crumb (complete with sweet crunchiness) on the outside, & raspberry jelly inside. The Bad: - My carnivore father got the Caesar salad. I tasted it & it was so bland it produced a frown. He didn't complain, but he did insist that night that we go somewhere with "real food", i.e. meat. That always makes you wince when carnivores have a bad veg experience. - Service was slow. - I go crazy for vegan reubens, & was really excited when I saw The Berliner, which was essentially a reuben. It was not good. It lacked sweetness from the Russian dressing, & was overpowered by vinegar & sour from the sauerkraut. We also had nachos for an appetizer, which were ok. Nothing to write home about, but not bad either. I see so many 5 star reviews. I hope we just had a one-off bad experience. I will be back, next time I'm in Chat, to give it another shot.

Was here 3 weeks ago, for the second time. This is our place to go to in Chattanooga. great food, nice staff and clean place. Our 2 year old daughter always finds the surroundings interesting. For newly vegans, it is refreshing to find places like these!
(4)Linda A.
Had lunch here today. I wish my business brought me to Chatt more often because this place is wonderful! I ordered the walnut burger for lunch and chose the collards as my side dish. Everything was delicious! The gentleman who waited on me answered all my questions and they were so nice...I asked for no onion on my salad and the chef went so far as to avoid getting much onion in my collards too. The greens were wonderful, I could eat a whole bucket of them! This place is a gem...if you live in Chatt, you need to visit Sluggo's a lot!
(5)Steve S.
This place is not fancy, but offers the best vegan food I have ever had in a restaurant. Customers place their order at the counter and are given a number to place on the table you select. The food is brought out to your table. Many thanks to earlier Yelp reviewers, because upon first look you might pass on this gem. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Chattanooga!!
(5)Kim U.
I'm a mostly vegetarian, but not a vegan. That really colors this review, because Sluggo's is actually a vegan cafe, something that was not clear until we got there. Why does this matter? I personally like cheese & dairy products and have a strong dislike of the vegan substitutes for those types of items. If I had known this was a vegan restaurant, I wouldn't have come here in the first place. What really bothered me more than the vegan/vegetarian difference was that, although we specifically mentioned that there was a peanut allergy at our table and wanted no peanut products on any of our food, we received food that had peanuts on it. Not okay. Fortunately, we realized before our son ate those items, but then I spent the rest of the meal paranoid that I had failed to notice peanut products in any of the other food and that he might have a severe reaction as a result. While that didn't happen, I was surprised that a restaurant with such a strong commitment to specific food preferences failed when a severe allergy was mentioned. Pros: *Fairly fast *Some of the food was quite tasty *Convenient location if you're passing through town or visiting the aquarium Cons: *Obviously the peanut allergy thing and the vegan/vegetarian thing. I want to make it clear that we eat out reasonably often and have literally never had a problem with the peanut allergy thing before now. We always have an epipen with us, but this is the first time I've ever worried we'd need to use it. *I found most of the food to be rather bland and uninspired *In addition to a bar, the other beverages available were run-of-the-mill fountain drinks (disappointing!) Kid-friendly scale: Eh. Walking in, I thought it looked really kid-friendly. But I didn't feel like we were particularly welcome as a family, at least not by the other diners. It's got a kind of "dive bar" ambience that doesn't mix well with kids, to me. Vegetarian-friendly scale: Duh. Although if this were omnivore-friendly scale, I'd say not to bother taking a non-vegetarian friend here. Other notes: We were in town visiting the aquarium and it was an easy drive from there to Sluggo's and then back to the highway to head home to Nashville. If you're vegan, I imagine this place is really quite fantastic.
(3)Jennifer B.
The food was great! And I'm not even vegetarian/vegan. Good value and quality, versatile menu and nice flavor combinations/pairings. My only complaint about what I got (sweet chili Thai bowl with the grilled veggies added) was the dousing of sauce; good flavor but still didn't need that much. My complaint about the restaurant itself -- and this is a big one -- is the greasy food/smoky smell that permeated my clothes and hair after 10 minutes inside. It hit so bad toward the end of my meal that my eyes were burning a bit. Sit outside. But definitely go, even if just to be proven wrong that vegan food can actually taste (that!) good. :)
(4)Hello M.
I liked this place when I first came in. It seemed like a local hub and hang out spot. And the people were really nice. Unfortunately the food wasn't as good. See, the first strictly vegan food I ever had was delicious. The flavors were punchy and diverse. The food was fresh, original, and yet oddly familiar. I wished that lady could cater everything I went to. I could totally be a vegan then. Unfortunately, a lot of the vegan food, especially from vegan restaurants, have failed to live up to that first experience. And usually it's because they're trying to serve normal food, but with vegan ingredients. As far as I'm concerned, I'm never going to have a vegan burger as good as a regular burger. It's just not going to happen. And it doesn't need to. Burgers aren't the only good food in the world. Don't shape my expectations by telling me you're serving me "chicken" friend steak. Just give me something original and flavorful that is also vegan. It will probably be a better dish, and I just might consider being a vegan again.

I've eaten a lot of vegg places and this is the best I've ever ever had.. I ordered a ton of food and several pints of a delicious cider.. I will review what I can remember,, even though it was all super.. Appetizers -- the nachos had flavors that I've never tasted and were devoured by our party along with perfectly grilled flat bread/tortillas? And hummus.. Main courses were a seitan delight,, the club was stacked high with side salad with tahini tastiness.. When I go back I will get the dill dressing (out of this world). My friend got the buffalo wrap that she couldn't eat because of the heat so I gave her half my massive sandwich and loved the wrap (wasn't that hot) (wimpy Tennessee palates). Wife got the gluten free tofu Indian bowl,, great.. Forgot the guy at the counters name,, thanks ,, very pleasant and chill ,, ran a tab for us as we leisurely pick our items,, give him a raise... Thanks for the beta about a punk band playing that night NOBUNNY,, super good band
(5)Tnvd C.
Sluggo's is great! They're not trying to be a fancy gourmet restaurant, they just wanna serve you some good vegetarian diner food! I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a gluten-free menu available (although very limited) and I was able to have a super-filling, tasty, and pleasing meal for under ten bucks. Definitely worth a visit.
(4)Christopher E.
If you are looking for some satisfying vegan fare and a beer, this is the spot. I went 3 times over the course of a week working in Chattanooga and was very happy with the food and the service.
(5)Keri M.
As a person who's not so keen on eating meat, it was nice to not have to worry about what's what. I brought my three foodie friends with me and we were all quite happy with what we all ordered. Their gluten/fake meat is very well made and their crab cakes are amazing! They did forget my cornbread since I got the pecan crusted seitan...but I didn't realize this until after I left. It took a little bit of time for our food to get to us since it was lunch time and everyone was there. We were starving so maybe it felt like eternity...but it was worth the wait!
(4)Kate B.
Really wish I had a bottomless wallet so I could eat here every single day. Everything I've ever had there is absolutely delicious. The Popeye Bowl is my favorite thing on the menu. Every non-veggie friend I take here is impressed; even my hardcore steak-and-burger loving Texan father enjoyed his meal. This is the most original restaurant in Chattanooga, in my opinion. You will leave satisfied and not groggy/weighed down like omnivore food does. PS. I don't know why people complain about the beer selection. This place has a wide variety of brews, including local flavors.
(5)Zeb M.
If you're vegetarian or looking to eat some healthier - or hell, just wanting to try some different - look no further than Sluggo's. They also serve some quality beer to go with your meal and have board games in one corner of the place so you can play some Jenga while you wait! Vegetarian or not, there's no excuse not to love Sluggo's.
(5)Eliza R.
Sluggo's is my go-to place in Chattanooga when I want something healthy, cheap and quick. I am a vegetarian, but I've also brought my meat-eating friends and they all love it. The food is fresh, nutritious and creative and you usually end up getting a lot of food for a great price. The atmosphere is laid-back and cute, and the staff are really nice and knowledgeable.
(5)Emma W.
Delicious food. Good beer selection. Great service. The Chana Masala is super as is the hummus. Works for vegetarians and non vegetarians alike.
(5)Big B.
Admittedly, I kept not going to this place due to it's appearance from Cherokee Blvd. The building is ancient, and run down. However, I finally broke the seal and went in to check it out, and was pleasantly surprised. The seating isn't very comfortable, but the food is really good and well priced. I've had the walnut mushroom burger $5.25 twice now and it's awesome. Appears to be handmade, with lots of fresh ingredients, fresh made dressing, and a great bun. Yum, definitely recommend.
(5)Sarah J.
I so wish I liked this place more! It has a cool atmosphere in a pretty neglected area of Chattanooga's north side, and their menu looked great. And maybe most of it is great? It sounds like the burgers are maybe great? So ignore this review and go and order a burger! But I ordered the salad special of the day--caesar salad with blackened tofu--so that's what I gotta review. And it really, really wasn't great. The dressing tasted EXACTLY like crappy Thousand Island dressing--the super sweet, pink, Kraft kind. There was nothing caesar-y about it--I wanted garlicky, creamy, briney, sharp tasting goodness, and instead got something that tasted like sweet mayo. And it was watery, so the lettuce and mediocre croutons got soggy. On top of that, there was something that looked like paprika poured all over the salad--not sure what it was, but it was hella sour, and didn't help things at all. There also appeared to be nutritional yeast (NOOOOOOooooch) sprinkled on there as well, I guess as a parm substitute, and though I love nooch, it didn't blend well with the weird sweet/sour/soggy thing going on and just made the whole thing taste like a vegan mess. Yo, Sluggo--use the caesar salad recipe in Veganomicon. It is the BEST. Or at least rename your salad, so as not to disappoint...
(2)Alan P.
Finding a vegan restaurant in the South is truly a task. We found ourselves visiting Chattanooga and discovered Sluggo's. We were very pleased. The best items our party had were the quesedilla, the zucchini cakes, the club, and the curry lentil soup. This restaurant could thrive even in our hometown of Portland, Oregon. Must visit for vegans in the area. One more note, this is not going to make anyone's list for healthy vegan eating...go here for flavor.
(5)Jaime D.
Unfortunately this place was disappointing at best. The broccoli soup was cold and tasteless. The bread on the Philly was hard and I'm not even sure why they call it a Philly it was more like stroganoff on a bun. The thing is this area has a large hidden veggie population and this type if restaurant has unlimited potential. It doesn't seem like the restaurant owner cares much about cleanliness and it shows. Date of visit 12/26 afternoon. No returns!!!!
(1)Kelly R.
Your band should play here! Came here for a show (97-SHIKI). Great space, sound, and people. The crowd of local show goers was very supportive of all the musical acts... great to see! Was looking forward to some Chattanooga vegan eats but Sluggo's was closed on Mondays (other than for shows at night). I did see some of the band folks eating veggie chili from the kitchen that looked great. Beer prices were fair. Menu looked promising. If we swing through Chattanooga again we know where to stop.

The food is unbelievable--easy 5 stars (very fair prices, too). Ate nachos, enchiladas and mushroom/walnut burger--all were vegan and fantastic. Fast, friendly service. Atmosphere and music are great. Level of cleanliness leaves much room for improvement.

I was so excited to find this spot...according to the internet, it is the only vegan restaurant in Chattanooga. I hope that is wrong, but what a great spot if it is! First of all, the decor is somewhat hipster-dingy-cool and the first thing I notice is a Lou Reed painting behind the counter. You read the menu at the counter and order everything at the start, then take a seat with a number and the server brings you the food. It was somewhat chilly and rainy today, so I had been wanting some creamy tomato soup and amazingly enough, it was one of the specials! My dad ordered a starter for us all which was also a special, the potstickers which is a plate of veg dumplings with three different sauces: soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce and a spicy mayo sauce. I have never had dumplings before but these were amazing! My fav of the sauces was the spicy mayo. I ordered the cheeky wings and a bowl of the tomato soup. Both were excellent and I was so full I couldn't finish it all. The cheeky wings came with a few carrot sticks and some dill dipping sauce. The guy told me they were very spicy, and that they were...and oh so good! The tomato soup came with some toast and it satisfied my craving perfectly! To go with my food, I decided to have a local TN beer. The guy was nice enough to let me sample some before I made my decision (I am a picky beer drinker). They had a great selection of beer and some great food choices. I will definitely come back when I am here again! It is nice to know that Chattanooga has a place where I can eat everything!

This place is awesome! The main ingredient in most if their sandwiches is seitan. I had no idea what this is, and even after asking the waitress, I didn't really understand what I was eating, but in the end it didn't really matter because it was delicious. I got the Italian sub, and as a true meatball sub lover, the seitan was a great substitute. I would get this sub again, but there are so many sandwiches on the menu that I want to try, I probably wont be getting it again anytime soon, I will definitely be back to this place, and I am looking forward to it.

Yum, yum and yum! That is what I said the three times I ate here while in town. This is exactly the kind of everyday food I love to eat - sandwiches, hearty entrees and comfort style food and all made vegan. I had tried the BBQ seitan sandwich, the reuben (called something else on the menu but it's a reuben), and the philly cheesesteak. I also had bites of my husband's pecan crusted seitan entree, which I will definitely be ordering next time I'm in town. Everything on the menu looks & sounds delicious, and as far as I know it is. The prices are reasonable & the portion sizes are generous, so you will not leave hungry or poor. My non-vegetarian colleagues also liked it. Go and bring your friends.

Poor service, inedible food. I'm sure it's a great bar/venue, but damn. Don't bother trying to eat here. It's some of the worst food I've ever had. On top of that it took forever, and the questions I had about the menu were met with "I dunno, I only work here" type answers. It was dark, didn't look kept up, and was nearly empty. It's like they don't want customers.

Chattanooga's Veggie scene took me by surprise and Sluggo's hit it out of the park. Sluggo's is well located and was very easy to find for never being to Chattanooga before. The menu was well thought out, with a wide variety sandwich, salad and plate dishes. They had Mexi-Fanta, that reminded me of traveling Europe and made my day. haha.. All and all, great hidden gem in Southeastern Tennessee. A must for any Veg/Vegan either passing through or living in Chattanooga.

LOVE this place! I'd been meaning to check it out for some time and finally did a couple weeks ago. Ordered the lentil patty melt, along with potstickers for an app. Both were really really good. The potstickers came with 3 different sauces and I couldn't decide which one I liked best! The patty melt was perfect -- a great alternative to meat. The atmosphere was great, too. Can't wait to go back!

Original menu, quick service.

I am not a vegetarian, but I really like this somewhat funky, dingy, vegetarian dive. Had the lentil burger with potatoes and salad in spring of 2011 and loved every bit of it. My vegetarian dining companions also loved their meals. Returned again in early 2012 for a Sunday brunch and the same group was thoroughly satisfied by the meal. Sluggo's serves generous portions so you leave sated. We will try to stop here whenever we are in Chattanooga.

Just like the other Suggo's in Pensacola, this place is awesome. The portions are huge, food is healthy and fresh and Iv'e picked up on so many ideas for meals at home from this place (especially southern food) I can't thank them enough. It's basically the south's vegan mecca. We have been traveling the South for about a year and stayed in Chattanooga twice, partially due to this place. Now that I've kissed its butt enough, I have to say, people should stop complaining about how nice it doesn't looks or how comfortable the seats aren't. This place in a vegan cafe, and like the rest of the country, that means they are down to earth, cool, have great art and awesome music. You bus your own table, you grab your own silverware and hot sauce and you are left alone by the staff. They are not around to wait on you or make you special. Having gone to every vegan cafe from Vancouver BC to, Key West and up to Asheville, NC while traveling around the Us in our RV for the last year and a half, this is completely normal and acceptable business model and how I like it. I hate hand holding and having my ass kissed by a fake tip greedy waiter. This place is getting even better too, when lately they opened up the basement for shows and you can listen to a nice metal show while you eat your home cookin', nutritional yeast grits and suck down an oatmeal stout. I miss it already.

The blackened and charred tofu was salty as sea water and actually, just bad. . The tasty bread and salsa had been grilled too, in an oil field. The minimalist greens were bland and skimpy, barely dressed. It wasn't a good experience and I had thought it would be great. The Sunday gang was there, hardly a seat available. Evidently, "noogans don't have much to do. Disappointment was generously served up for dessert.

comfortable, reasonable, not "full of themselves" as some specialty restaurants tend to be. Thoroughly enjoyed the hummus/spinach wrap with a cuppa lentil soup & small garden salad! great prices! very filling lunch was less than $7 can't wait to get back there & share the experience with friends!

Had the mushroom walnut burger with a side salad, and loved the tahini dressing. The "burger" was a very unique flavor, very nutty, so it was a nice change and it was memorable. I hope more people support this place, it was literally dead when we went on a Saturday night.... then again, it was summer so maybe their customers are mostly students. I'd definitely go again if I stop by Chattanooga.

Vegan food can be some of the most delicious food you've ever had. But if you want to try delicious vegan food, stay away from here! I've had my fair share of vegan Philly cheesesteaks, and the one I had here was the worst one I think anyone could produce. Also, you may notice a couple propaganda posters on the wall in another language with swastikas on them. As my boyfriend and I sat eating our food, we were curious if these were anti or pro Nazi propaganda, so we decided to Google translate what was written on them. Unfortunately, neither of us could come up with anything very clear, so we decided to ask an employee. His answer was along the lines of "uh I don't know and I don't care to find out". This irks me because to me, I think it would be kind of important to know if the people you're working for are promoting Nazism or not. I also think if you're going to post propaganda posters with swastikas in your restaurant, maybe you should make it more clear to the public (and your less intelligent employees) what your stance is on the issue. Even if the food was good, I could never bring myself to go back unknowing if I were supporting Nazis or not.

Best vegetarian restaurant in the city. I usually just walk in and order whatever the daily special is, otherwise the Cheeky Wing Wrap or the Thai Chili Bowl does the trick. There's a cool jukebox full of punk rock classics, a stack of board games, a fountain soda machine, and a beer selection (though I can't speak to their quality as I don't imbibe). My wife and I were so grateful when this place opened up in our neighborhood, and we patronized it as much as we could, hoping it could survive the rough 2010 economy. Looks like it's hanging in there ... go check it out.

After a day of hiking in the mountains we descended on this small mom and pop vegan restaurant. I had the tofu curry and my partner had the Popeye bowl. Food was hearty and plentiful (and inexpensive). We're just visiting Chattanooga - but would be regulars otherwise!

Wow. We were perplexed when we saw a Sluggos (North), as there is a location in Pensacola, FL that we have been to and played at. We then learned from the friendly staff that it was owned by the same folks! I was instantly stoked because finding awesome all vegan comfort food is hard, especially while on the road. Dishes include potstickers with 3 sauces, pecan crusted seitan, killer collard greens, and mashed spuds -- Philly "cheese steaks" obviously minus the cheese and steaks -- as well as a variety of other sandwhiches, entrees, and deserts. Its not expensive and price should not be an issue when your health and conscious are being satisfied so sweetly. Civilization and Black Cobra approved.

This place was recommended to me by Liz at Bridge Salon. I had a hard time ordering because so many things on the menu sounded delicious. I went with the Popeye bowl (peanut sauce) which was served with long black chopsticks. The beer selection in a cooler behind the counter had a creative selection. The vintage booths had such a cozy feel, I loved the atmosphere

This is my new favorite restaurant in Chattanooga. Good beer, amazing food. I'm a vegetarian, but I've taken those who aren't and everyone was satisfied. This place is on my list for at least one meal every time I'm in town.

This is a review for gluten free meal. I'm sure the non gluten free vegan meals are good but the gluten free meals were ok. Nothing really to be excited about but not bad either so I give 3 stars.

Good basic vegetarian fare. Nothing to blow you away, but nice and solid when you're craving something healthy. The atmosphere is mediocre and the building cold (hippies, don't be afraid to burn some energy. It's cold inside!), but it's nice to have the healthy option in Chattanooga. The vegan walnut mushroom burger is great, as is the Popeye bowl (tofu, fresh spinach, cabbage and brown rice in peanut sauce).

Had there lunch special dumplings, amazingly good.
