Rembrandt’s Coffee House Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Great selection of coffees, teas in a nice artsy part of Chattanooga. Slightly on the expensive side for lunch options. Ideal for breakfast with a wide menu of food and coffee to kickstart your day. Chocolate covered macaroons and biscotti are my personal favorites on a cheat day. The outside patios are great for kids and people to soak up the sun and enjoy a nice chat. Extra Parking is available behind the place if you're not familiar with this part of Chattanooga. Highly recommend this to my friends and family who visit me.

Looking for good coffee to revitalize your body? How about a pastry to round out a wonderful dinner in downtown Chattanooga ? Add to that a picturesque area with art, sculpture and beautiful views of the Tennessee River that will revitalize your spirit. It means you've found Rembrandt's coffee house. Chattanooga alone is a city worth visiting. It wins awards and is prominent in many "Top" lists of places to visit. Rembrandt's and the surrounding area are two of many reasons to make it a destination. Some reviews have had negative comments about the staff. Maybe those have helped as our servers were pleasant and cheerful this day. Of course I'm a little euphoric right now. It is hard to find anything negative to say about Rembrandt's as I sit in its shaded courtyard, with a light breeze blowing, sipping coffee and noshing on a pastry cream filled brioche (St. Moretz) overlooking a view of the river. I recommend you come and savor it for yourself.

Located in the Chattanooga Art District, this quaint little coffee spot is nestled in a cluster of motley shops. It's an adoption of classical European (predominantly Italian) with modern angles. So in other words, my unhip husband was way out of place. The aroma of percolated java welcomes you like an eccentric, well traveled cousin sporting a beard and a man bun. Then you see the display of decadence that made this fat chick get jiggy. Cookie? Cake? Chocolate? Oh, hell yes, please. Let's just add some coffee to that order to bring it home, sunshine -- white mocha with soy. The coffee was fine. It wasn't liquid crack. But it was enough for warm fuzzies. The place would have gotten more stars if the customer service was better. We bought items and had to ask for a bag to place them in. One of the items was a mug -- a breakable mug. Customer service goes beyond taking my money. Go visit Rembrandt's. Have some pastry and coffee to go, walk to the scenic spot, and take in the view of the river. I think you'll like it.

Nasty. I'm still sitting outside as I write this. They just gave me a cup of coffee that still had bright red lipstick all over it. When I pointed it out, they took it to the back and just poured it into another cup. I had to insist for fresh coffee and asked for a to go cup because they obviously don't clean very well. The manager, I assume, checking is out said I could have one but I wouldn't be eligible for refills! Wow. No refund offered and no refills. Not to worry, I don't think I'd want one here anyway. It may be the "hip" place to go, but I'll stay away.

This is the whitest place you will ever go. The birds were chirping, the children were playing, and the white people were being white people

We live in walking distance and just love their patio. A very nice relaxing morning spot for us. Coffee is great, service is always friendly and the food is tasty. Large selection of food for a coffee shop.

Love this place! Great coffee and great pastries! We like stopping here in the mornings when we're visiting Chattanooga. There's always plenty of seating, and the outdoor courtyard is great when the weather is mild.

Been here many times. I really like the baked goods. Cookies, tarts, cakes, macaroons .. so yummy!!! I don't think I've had anything there I didn't like - baked goodwise. However, the iced chai is not that good. I actually like mine with a strong chai tea flavor. This one was very weak... and its not made fresh, its made from a syrup. The place itself is very cute! There is an outdoor terrace with many tables and chairs. Its pleasant! The inside also has a decent amount of seating... but if you go there when its busy, you will have to wait for your drink. I waited 15mins, it was just that busy. So my lemon tart was devoured already...

Great coffee shop and patio. This place was a real treat. The bakery was fabulous. They had the best cheese Danish in Chattanooga. There staff was so friendly and cool! And they were dog friendly.

Super yummy! I had a breakfast sandwich on a multigrain bagel and the fiancée had a breakfast sandwich on focaccia bread. He said it was a bit dry but still good. Cappuccino was delicious! Lovely quaint little place. Easy to find Parking and not crowded at all- but we did go on a Monday morning around 10:30.

I don't get it. None of their employees seemed happy to be there. Everything in their pasty case was really pretty but what I got was not gourmet at all. I ordered a chocolate chocolate chip cookie. It was super thin, chewy in the wrong way, and tasted like I was just eating the baking chocolate. I also ordered the Chicken caesar salad. First they brought me out the dish and they brought the wrong dish to the people who ordered behind me. Tasted like the romaine was from a bag and many pieces were brown. Chicken was weird. I know this place is more about the desserts, so if my salad was so not to the same standard as your pastries, why have it on the menu? The neighborhood is wonderful so I assume that most of the reviews are from out of towners who don't know the many other better options in this city. I don't get it and I was disappointed.

Breakfast was TERRIBLE. Worst french toast I've ever had, and I've had my dad's french toast. My wife's bacon egg and cheese sandwich was laughable, and the employees, as usual, we're not pleasant. Why 4 stars? We are locals and what they do well, they do really well. Their coffee, unlike other trendy places, is actually very good. So sick of choking down bitter, horribly brewed coffee elsewhere, just because the atmosphere deems it a good coffee place. The pastries are usually very good, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the tomato artichoke soup, when you can get it, is pretty darn good. My advise: Steer clear of the breakfast menu, and try not to make eye contact with the staff.

The coffee is great. The service is friendly. The pastry is good. The savory side of things, however, is none of the above. Stick to the coffee and may I suggest a scone (chocolate). I sampled the breakfast menu recently and the "rancheros"...well it was just bad. Really bad. Still a lovely spot for a cup o joe and something sweet in the morning.

One of the best little coffee shops with great desserts. One of the best in the country. Prices are on par of major chains. A nice outdoor garden to sit in and enough indoor seating. Desserts are all amazing. Coffee is fresh and many flavors. When we pass through Chattanooga we almost always stop. It's that good.

One of our favorite morning stops when we come to Chattanooga. Located in the Arts Bluff District, it is the perfect place to stop after a morning walk to refresh and refuel. Even on a hot day, there are some shady spots to be found on the outdoor patio. The breakfast sandwiches are nice and I've also had the fruit, yogurt and granola bowl. Fresh and yummy. Oh...and now I have my husband conveniently parked so I can browse the adjacent river arts gallery. ;)

This place is really cute right by the water, we came here because we were staying in one of the B&B that owns it so our breakfast was included with our stay. We ordered what was included however the service sucked even though there was almost 5 people behind the counter but they worked so inefficiently, it was driving me crazy! We ordered 2 egg sandwiches a side of fruit for each and coffee they were all ringed up but the fruit never made it to our table. The pastries we good but not out of this world. The thing that I really liked was that the girl behind the counter recognized us the second time we went in there.

The building is gorgeous and has a Parisian feel but the coffee is disappointing. I had a decaf Peruvian and was unsatisfied. It had hardly any flavor and what I could taste was was not great. The inside seating reminds me of cafeteria. The outside seatin is adorable though. But I recently gave them another try and got a cappuccino and was even more disappointed with that then the coffee. I think this place attracts for the outside atmosphere. I just think they need more training on the coffee preparation.

This is by far the nicest café I've been to state-side. Well-lit indoors and beautiful outdoor seating give it a wonderfully comfortable and warm ambiance. Really tasty food for breakfast and lunch. Plenty of healthy options and a la carte items in addition to the cakes and pastries make it a compelling option for every meal. I think we ended up eating half of our meals here during our three night stay in Chattanooga, and for good reason. And the coffee. Oh God the coffee. It's wonderful. Even the dark roasts are full of flavor. They switch out the house coffee variety every day or two, meaning you'll never get tired of it. You can also buy coffee by the bag, if that's your thing. And they even offer to grind up the beans. Friendly staff, great food, great ambiance. What more could you want from a café? Don't pass this place up.

It was truly great, shellfish platter is an outstanding value and is delicious, especially given that the platter has Miyagi and Nauset oysters which are simply heavenly.

I usually pop in here once or twice a month to get fresh roasted coffee to brew myself at home, but lately I have been very disappointed in the experience.Their bean selection has decreased, and when I was there last, all of them looked to be the same roast. I've ordered several different drinks here, and they were good but not amazing. I can make better at home. While I do like to dessert options, as some others have also stated, they are often stale, and for the price, that's a real gamble. I do love the feel of this place, but a lot of the other patrons are very loud. It's not unusual for me to have to wait 10 to 15 minutes for an employee to even begin filling my coffee order as well. While a couple of the employees are very knowledgeable and friendly, that seems to be on the down slope too. All in all, it's a good place, but try others around town that you may like more.

  • George W.

Good Coffee, bad service. Not much inside seating. They charge .25 cents for coffee refills and they won't let you pay ahead. They said it was because they make their own coffee and they don't want customers to hag out.

  • Andie C.

The courtyard is worth every minute of being here. The chicken caesar wrap was so fresh and delicious for lunch, my shortbread cookie dipped in chocolate was so delightful, and my iced tea was fresh and fragrant. I am a non-local, and was so glad that my friend brought me here. The perfect way to spend an afternooon.

I went to Rembrandt's with my boyfriend after having dinner at a nearby restaurant. The location and set up is wonderful! The inside area is beautiful and quaint. There are numerous options for desserts, coffee, and tea! We ordered a slice of Tiramisu, Black Tea, and a Hazelnut Latte. Every thing was delicious!!! We sat outside, next to the little pond and it was so so pleasant. The outside dinning are feels so calm and eclectic. I absolutely loved the ambiance that all the other reviewers mention. You will not want to leave!! The building is beautiful and the food is outstanding. I cant wait to come back again!!

Great coffee. Amazing desserts. And the soups are sooo tasty! Love coming here and enjoying the patio outside on a nice day!

One of my favorite spots for coffee or sweets in Chattanooga. The coffee is always good, and there is a big selection. There is a huge selection of desserts too, and everything I've had has been delicious. Their best desserts are the individual slices of cake or their hand-crafted chocolates. I really like the feel of the place too- so coffee shops can be intimidating or you just instantly feel like an outsider, but Rembrandt's doesn't have that feel. The only downside is it can be a little pricey.

Don't order the Bufalatta sandwich way over priced almost $10. For what should be $5. Desserts were really good.

For handcrafted coffee in Chattanooga, or even coming from North Georgia, it gets no better. This coffee house is in an eclectic, vintage style art district, and puts any of the typical coffee chains to shame...tight space at the ordering counter, but they are quick to steam your order. I am always safe with a white chocolate mocha with an extra shot of espresso! That keeps it a bit more robust. Rembrandt's also has a wide selection of innovative roasted coffee beans.

Went here for the gluten free options for my wife. Don't make the same mistake. They advertise well, that's about it. The gluten free options are cookies. Yay cookies for breakfast. I ordered a turkey and egg biscuit. The biscuit was very good, the "smoked" turkey was lunch meat I think. And the egg was square and looked like tofu or somthing. Very little flavor. Coffee was good, service was good. Food very blah and tastless.

You'll enjoy the cozy atmosphere as you sip your excellent cup of coffee and sample the sweets. Since you're in the Bluff View, take a stroll and see the scenic views and artwork. Maybe visit Tony's for dinner...it's across the parking lot.

This was my go-to coffee stop in Chattanooga until I discovered Milk and Honey. I like this place mainly for the awesome patio shaded with trees with a water fountain in the corner. The outdoor seating area can't be beat! The bad news is the coffee leaves much to be desired. I have gotten pastries a few times because they always look so pretty in the case, but in reality they are usually stale. I haven't been back since finding my new favorite coffee shop a few miles away. I would possibly go back to enjoy the patio but would probably just save myself the disappointment and only order tea.

Great coffee shop with nice atmosphere and even better coffee. We had a breakfast sandwich, granola, and coffee to go on a road trip and it was the perfect spot.

  • Cameron G.

Good food and reasonably priced. There are a lot of baked goods options. A lot of the tables get direct sunlight through the windows later in the day; it was so bright that I had trouble thinking about anything else.

    (5)
  • Bridgette B.

The space in front of the pastry counter was too small. It was hard to read the pastry descriptions because they were printed so small. The food was good, but a little pricey.

I'm just going to have to visit Rembrandt's Coffee House every time I visit Chattanooga! It was quaint, charming, and simply delicious! I had the chicken salad and loved it! I also tried the Firebird sandwich, which was unique and wonderful. The coffee was great and the desserts...well, let's say it has become a goal to try them all! The macaroon was my favorite! I really can't wait to visit again!

Good deserts good location. Pleasant atmosphere and would love to come back and hang out on the patio in the spring. The coffee ... meh. I usually look at the machine a place uses before I bother ordering an espresso or machiatto. They had a real machine but I think the kid who pulled the shots was more interested in watching the girls who came in than making a decent shot. The beans may be fine but it was so over extracted and bitter you wouldn't be able to tell. I had a gingerbread biscotti (good!) to dip in it so it was drinkable but had it been straight espresso or nothing to dip it would have gone back or been left. I'll be going back and will find if that shot was just an anomaly. (yes I'm an espresso snob)

A nice little shop, offering delicious desserts and some light fare for brunch/lunch. You can also dine on their large patio.

Rembrandt's is a really nice coffee place in the heart of the Bluff. I love the look of the area and the awesome sculptures you encounter. The shop itself is filled with so much character. It's always jam-packed though and a tight squeeze, which distracts from the ambiance...kind of a shame. The coffee is AMAZING though, as are the chocolates and little pastries. I haven't had any lunch items so I couldn't tell you much about them. My favorite things to get are a house brew and the little chocolates that are shaped like little tea cups- SO CUTE!

I first heard of this shop by browsing vacation packages for Chattanooga and noticed that the couples packages had chocolate covered strawberries from this place included with them. This struck my curiosity about the places quality, since it was included in these said packages. So we added it to our list of places to visit on this trip to Tennessee on June 15, 2013. Upon arriving we could not find a park near the coffee house and had to park in a housing district with apartment styled houses probably around a block away. I ordered a white chocolate java frappe, and the only part of that long name I received was the frappe part. I believe in their rush to get my order out that they forgot, whoever made it forgot to put in any part related to what I ordered other than milk and ice, which is what it tasted like. It was not very good at all. (They were not busy at the time of our ordering, there was only one more customer ahead of us, and no one behind us, so they can't blame the mistakes on how busy they were). As for the cake we ordered, I posted a picture of it, it was the Italian Cream Cake. It was dry but good, and nicely decorated with whipped cream, strawberries and chocolate drizzle. I also ordered 6 each of the Jack Daniel's truffles and chocolate covered brandied cherries, but to my surprise I receive 8 of the cherries and not 6. The chocolate covered brandy cherries were good but good on an slightly above ok standard, but the Jack Daniel's truffles.. They were excellent. As for the atmosphere of the place, it was nice and relaxing. They have a fenced in patio type area with a water fountain and I believe it was wrought iron furniture, I honestly can't remember that part. The employees were of a "hipster" styled nature and very friendly and talkative. The customers seemed well dressed as if this were a 5 star restaurant, although its not. I would love to come back to this place at a future visit to Chattanooga, and wont be too harsh even though they did forget half of my order, and the coffee I received wasn't anything more than a slightly sweet milk mixed with ice.. when it was suppose to be a white chocolate java frappe. My visit here was still pleasant. I would have given this coffee shop a five star rating if my order hadn't been forgotten about and I had received what I ordered.

What Happened? Only the outdoor seating is good! It's been some time (seven months at least) since I went to Rembrandt's, but things have changed. The coffee isn't as hot or good. The pastries lack the old flavor and it seems the quality is down across the spectrum. Service has dropped to the speed of a slow snail, and the staff seems disinterested in presenting a pleasing personality or even a smile. I used to recommend this place as the only decent food in the Bluff View area, but no more. If I wanted low quality and poor service I'd eat at my mother-in-law's.

Wow! What can I say but wow. If you have a craving fr chocolate, go here! They make incredible chocolates, coffees, cakes and anything else chocolate! It is hard to find a seat in this place and often find a table that still has dishes from the previous customer. They have outdoor seating with several heaters, but it was just too cold. We had various chocolates and I ordered the Sedona cake. My daughter and her boyfriend had carmel latte and hot chocolate. We all loved everything. The chocolates are expensive and definitely not something you eat every day, but worth the occassional indulgance when you visit the area. Depending on what you get, you won't have to spend much. I wouldn't recommend getting much there because their chocolates are REALLY rich and creamy and delicious. I have found that there is somewhere you can get too much of a good thing.

First of all take my review from a Foreign point of view. This place is one on a kind for me. In my home country you can always find intimate restaurants when you can eat, drink a good coffee or real hot chocolate and enjoy a nice talk with someone. and in Knoxville I never found a place like this. All places are the same with fatty foods, bad coffee and hot chocolate made from powdered chocolate. So, for the first time I found a nice place (looks like antique house) when they serve you quality coffee for a very reasonable price and real hot chocolate! and by this I mean quality milk with chocolate (not hot water or hot crappy milk with powdered chocolate) I love this place because : *You can find an amazing quick service and very friendly staff *Is very cheap *You can find an amazing pastries selection (and tiny portions! Ideal for an afternoon tea) *You can find an amazing macaroon *You can find an amazing fruit tart. *You can find a delicious mango tea *It reminds me a very romantic hipster district in my home country. *they close late (10pm) *they open on Sundays (all places in knoxville is closed very early on sundays or they are not even open) *the bathrooms are clean. *you can see very beautiful people, not rednecks. (while you are drinking your coffee it's nice to see beautiful people. The bad thing is in Chattanooga!! and I live in Knoxville :) but that macaroons, coffee and hot chocolate worth it. I found this place by chance because I was near Chattanooga and I was looking for a chance to found a cozy coffee house!

In the morning, we arrived in chat town. After an afternoon bike in the spring showers, we were looking for a hot drink and a yum yum. At the last minute, bam! "Boysen Berry!" Said my girlfriend...Rembrandt's was kind enough to grant us one free coffee. A majestic blue headed rainbow bird flew down to see if any crumbs from our succulent pecan tart remained. There were not, ha ha! But seriously, come to Rembrandt's.

  • Brad I.

My wife and I stopped in here a few days ago for an afternoon cup of coffee. We both had black coffee and we split the rum-ball and hazelnut bliss bar. Thoroughly impressed with the shop's service, location, and pastries, we decided to come back today for lunch. The sandwiches we ordered were not worth the $25 we paid, or the thirty minute wait. Conclusion: come for coffee and pastries, go somewhere else for lunch.

For a coffee house, I don't think it gets better than this. Located on top of the beautifully scenic and quaint Bluff View art district, Rembrandt's is the perfect place to sit, sip, reflect, and enjoy a beautiful day. The building itself is a work of art, historic french stucco with a garden terrace for outdoor seating as well. The coffee is wonderful, and the food is spot on as well. I've had the Caprese Panini which was KILLER, and the tomato artichoke soup: creamy, savory goodness in a bowl :) Definitely pop in and grab a bite or a drink, and just sit and absorb the beauty around you.

Excellent location only outmatched by the friendly staff. We went for coffee before the art museum and then lunch afterward. I had the house blend coffee and my wife had a latte. Both were very well done. For lunch we each had a side salad and split the grilled chicken panini. Everything was great!

Wonderful coffee shop! 5 stars for the BEST frappe I've ever had AND super friendly staff! If you need to study, catch up with friends or spend an afternoon getting lost in a book, this is the coffee shop for you! Also, I LOVED the gluten free options! THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)

One of the best cups of coffee I've ever had. Went there for breakfast when I was visiting Chattanooga and couldn't have asked for a better local coffee shop. Their pastries were fantastic and the French toast panini was better than I could've hoped for. Can't wait to be back in the area to try more of their food

Driving, driving, driving. We were on the second day of our 1500 mile car trip and we detoured for Rembrandt's. My husband found our lunch spot on Yelp, and I couldn't be happier. He ordered a tuna salad plate, an Orangina and I ordered the chicken salad plate. We partook in several iced coffees and a decadent rum ball. It was a meditative lunch. You know the kind that keeps you in silence, only to hear chewing, birds singing and the dog panting. She did get plenty of water, too. Yeah, I had to knock a star off for the dog thing. We had the pup (under 15lbs) in tow and we couldn't bring her to the outdoor patio. Probably not the fault of the restaurant, but we did end up enjoying our feast on the steps outside. I totally felt like Snoopy: youtube.com/watch?v=4vzE… Overall, worth a trip if you're in the area. And be sure to check out the amazing walkways while you're at it.

Rembrandt's Coffee House has been a hang-out and attraction for well over a decade, located on the scenic bluff overlooking the river. It's gorgeous, with intricate little pathways. The cafe is located in a pod of cobblestone buildings. A local photographer put me in a photo shoot here years ago (that was over a decade ago too...). Their desserts are divine - they make their own chocolates. And the food is better than most coffee house menus. The scenery is designed to be European, which fits Chattanooga. The city has surpassed bigger places (Birmingham) as a worldly player in business, culture, and growth. Kudos to Rembrandt's and the art district for being staples in the local culture.

Area: Art district in Chattanooga, Tn. Very scenic and historical. Great place to walk around and see the shops and cafes. Service: Always friendly Drinks/Food: They have your typical coffee drinks as well as various teas. All are excellent and well made. They also have WONDERFUL desserts. Value: It is a little pricey, but not terrible. I used to come here 2-3 times a week when I lived in that city.

Best baked goods in town. Their double chocolate chip cookie and apple strudel are my favorites! They change their flavored coffee each week. They are always delicious. Southern Pecan is my favorite. Great ambiance and friendly service. Come here!

Rembrandt's is appropriately named for the location in the Bluff Art District but also for the drinks and confections which, in my opinion, are works of art. Instead of 'The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp' and 'Stoning of St. Stephen' Rembrandt's Coffee House offers pumpkin truffle chocolates, muffins, scones, espresso concoctions, and a slew of loose tea by The Republic of Tea. Tables are scattered around the little cafe with gorgeous views out of the European cottage-style building. Peach walls and wood floors complement the golden accents of the bakery display cases. You feel magically whisked away! This would be my hangout to read classic literature or snuggle up with herbal tea. I ordered a simple coffee and toasted coconut macaroon to go which ran around $3.00, but how I wish that I could have stayed!!! The coconut macaroon was sweet and savory with a crunchy outside and a gooey buttery coconut center. It was heavenly! Dear Rembrandt's Coffee House owner: please, please move to Nashville!!!!

After sitting at Aretha Frankensteins and deciding the reviews may be correct, we left to find another full breakfast place. Went to Bliegrass and Back Inn Cafe which were both close, on a Sunday morning!? Ended up here at Rembrandt Coffee. Bagels were terrible, fruit yogurt ganola bowl was not good. Fruit were grapes and cantolope and melon (not ripe) and one strawberry. Come on guys, if you can't get these two things right, you should close!

Probably the prettiest place in town to sip your coffee and indulge in pastries. But the lettuce in the Chef Salad had a slightly fishy taste...it was weird. The chicken salad is loaded with cumin, which I happen to like, but it is not for everyone. The fresh fruit was wonderful. My favorite pastry of those we tried was the passion fruit cupcake. The icing was almost like a mousse. The mocha square was very disappointing -totally lacking is flavor. The cream cheese brownie looked better than it tasted (more chocolate please), and the St. Tropez had a tasty mousse filling, but the cake part was dry. The chocolate covered macaroons looked good- must try next time! It was too hot to eat outside sadly, and inside gets quite loud.

  • Alyssa C.

Rembrandt's is one of the best places for coffee in the downtown area (and one of the only shops open on Sunday's). The parking is a bit of a hassle, especially on the weekends. The coffee based beverages and truffles are delicious, and their Russian tea cakes are not to be missed. The shop itself is housed in a very cute and old-fashioned feeling building (maybe it was once a home?) in the "art district" of downtown Chattanooga. It's a fun place to grab a coffee, sit outside with a good book and enjoy the weather.

After spending all Saturday rock climbing, and all Saturday night eating burgers and drinking beer, the first thing I wanted Sunday after my short hibernation, was some breakfast. And being the great yelper that I am, I quickly pulled out my phone and searched for the best coffee house in Chattanooga. And guess where I ended up at? Rembrandt's, and I was not disappointed. I had a bagel sandwich with eggs and cheese, which was accompanied by a soy latte. Both were great, but what really stood out, was the goody bag my girlfriend and I took with us for the car ride back to Nashville. They have a huge selection of pastries, chocolates, cookies, etc. There's no doubt in my mind that you wont find something that you'll like. We picked up a pumpkin creme filled truffle, sugar cooke, mexican chocolate cookie, and a macaroon. I agree with L when she says that the macaroon was the winner in the goody bag. Is was so great! I cant wait to take another road trip to Chattanooga and pick up some more treats from Rembrandt's.

How I end up not getting chocolate when I come here I don't know... Maybe because I go for coffee and breakfast. I mean I'm not against chocolate for breakfast but let's talk about coffee instead.... Anyways- super cool location in the Art District. Lovely courtyard to sit and sip or maybe go for a gentle walk to the sculpture garden. Coffee is probably the best you'll get in Chattanooga- it's decent. I got a croissant this time around and it was delish, but what was I thinking not getting the chocolate or almond....some times I wonder about my depriving myself. OH WAIT I got a mocha with whip, i had to delete some calories somewhere!!! I did have a breakfast sanwhich the last time that was super huge and tasty. Next vist I'm getting chocolates....

Holy Macaroon, Batman! Be prepared to spend time with your nose pressed up to the glass casings that hold all of their incredibly delicious pastries. Rembrandt's is in a very cute, artsy neighborhood, tucked away from downtown's industrial park. It's on a bluff, so the view is magnificent. Rembrandt's itself is cute, quaint and clean. And let's face it, as soon as you walk in, you immediately crave a cup of coffee and a large, buttery pastry (those coffee beans smell amazing!). I settled on an egg & cheese sandwich on a multi-grain bagel, and a sugar free white chocolate soy latte. The bagel was fresh, but not fluffy like a NYC bagel, which was a little disappointing, but the rest of my meal more than made up for it. After enjoying the relaxing Sunday morning, we went up to the counter and decided to try some of the delicious sweets! We purchased the following desserts: 1 pumpkin creme filled truffle 1 sugar cookie 1 mexican chocolate cookie 1 macaroon We saved everything for later, because we were full and wanted the full experience. The pastries stayed for days, while still holding on to their moist texture and decadent flavors. The chocolate cookie was really spicy and delicious! But the macaroon wins my vote as the all-time best macaroon I've ever had in my life. And I've had my fair share of Passovers. I will absolutely return if only for the lattes and the macaroons. So. Good.

One of the best coffee houses I've ever tried. Excellent lattes, and a magnificent selection of chocolates and other sweets. Great atmosphere, friendly service.

This place has a great location and awesome outside patio but the food choice is limited and substandard. Granola...no taste. Egg sandwiches come out cold...coffee wait is long and they take so long it's not hot. Visited on several Sunday mornings. Sadly the choices for coffee houses in Chat is still limited. Will not be returning

Not impressed. Service is terribly slow and it wasn't even that busy. With all those people behind the counter I would have expected them to be more on top of things but they seemed to be bumping into each other. The only table service is when you get your food delivered to you; you have to stand in line to order and then stand around waiting for your coffee to be set on a sideboard. The breakfast sandwich and breakfast pannini weren't impressive at all and I'm not sure what views other reviewers are talking about; while the bluff area is incredible and the views from the Hunter Museum and other places on the bluff gorgeous, there's nothing to see from Rembrandt's except the street.

Great location in the art district, although a little hard to find. We approached it from the back and didn't see the small plaque with the name by the patio, so we walked all the way around the complex before finding the front entrance. We passed some other cute restaurants and art galleries in the complex - looks like a fun place to spend an afternoon. One reason we went there is they offer gluten free pastries, which my wife is always looking for. Her gluten free pistachio macaroon was amazing - light and airy with a creamy filling. I had a piece of tiramisu; it was good although not the best I've ever had. The coffee was really good, not too dark/bitter - better than Starbucks IMO. The place is really crowded though, so a couple of the patrons were getting irritable with the line (the "end" is not always well-defined) and it's tough to find indoor seating on a chilly day. Plenty of outdoor space on nicer days, though.

Went for post-meal coffee. Ordered: - cafe mocha: light flavor, not bitter at all. Almost watery. Tasty. Chocolatey. - chocolate covered coconut macaroon - pecan tart - St. Tropez - fruit tart I liked these desserts, but wouldn't order again. Everything was eh, but, something is keeping this place in my mind. Lot of people around on this weekend lunch time. Staff were friendly, but inefficient in dealing with people at the counter and at the register. I love the venue. Beautiful block of houses housing businesses.

Great ambiance, beautiful outdoor patio complete with windchimes, delicious desserts--anything from cookies and almond or coconut macaroons, to chocolate covered merengue balls and eclairs. Coffee was great as was the service.

Attention all out of towners looking for great coffee on your visit to Chattanooga...Rembrandt's is the place to visit! My wife I and enjoyed our visit there and were pleasantly surprised at how cute the patio was and how delicious the coffee was. We will be back and recommend it highly! Thanks Rembrandts!

Come prepared with your sweet tooth! I came looking for a study place with some good frozen drinks and foods, and got exactly what I was lookin for... Atmosphere here is perfect for both hanging out / chatting / or studying and working on your laptop. Section on the left is nicely lit with plenty of tables and bar stools, electrical outlets, etc. Set up for the laptop works. On the right and patio - cool sections to chill and hang out. I think I'm ready to add this to my list of study/work spots. The major set back is that, despite there being wi-fi, the signal's a bit sketchy/unreliable. Food here.... I got my hopes up when the cashier thought the soup of the day was gumbo - but turned out to be cream of mushroom. That's like making your dog "SIT" for some bacon... and then eating it in front of the dog!!! (arf arf!) I hope to come back and try the gumbo/etc here if they have it. I ended up trying the chef salad - which is truly a healthy option. Just toss out the cheese. ;) Dessert stuff - man oh man! The chocolate ganache barquette is a chocolate lover's dream. Thick, rich, fudgy chocolate with a small bit of pastry. This will send you to chocolate lover's heaven for a bit. Biscotti- no you don't need that with coffee! I tried both the almond and the chocolate chip - both were winners. Chocolate chip cookies were also good. Next up on my list of items to try would include: Tiramisu, chocolate covered hazelnuts, chocolate cake, scones, muffins, white and dark chocolate truffles, and maybe a pie. Wonder if i can clean that out in 1 sitting? Who's with me?!?!?! Anyhow - the Frappe's were what I was lookin for when I came here.I got the German Chocolate one - excellent stuff. It was towards the end of the day - so i asked for it "sans Java" - and well - it was good. No java needed. =) All in all - this place is A+. If they got reliable wifi here, published their soups online, and served some of that gumbo often - this could move up to a 5 star coffee/dessert/hang out joint.

I had plain coffee with the pumpkin bread. Omg so delicious! My boyfriend was less satisfied with the panini he had, but I don't think my review of Rembrandts should suffer since I picked something awesome and he didn't :-P

After dinner at nearby Tony's Pasta Shop, we decided to come over here for some coffee and dessert. This place has a great atmosphere, obviously very popular with the nearby college crowd. The outdoor courtyard was full of students sipping coffee and eating various pastries. I was amazed at their selection of tasty goodness. Row after row of sweet tasting things. I didn't have room to try all the desserts, so I settled on a chocolate covered chocolate brownie. Wow! Delicious! I also had the house blend, it was good... but not the best coffeee I'd ever had, but it was enjoyable. There is plenty of seating outside, but if you're looking for someplace a little more cozy, try sitting inside... *or* if you really want an outdoor seat, try going through the dining area towards the restrooms... you'll find a little private patio where there are only a couple of tables. I would definitely recommend making a stop here for some coffee and dessert.

A great place for a coffee date or some alone time to journal or study. It's quite small, cozy, and yet a welcome spot for a hot beverage and tasty dessert. Whenever I'm in Chattanooga, I consider it a must-visit.

Rembrandt's is pretty impressive because it surpasses the average coffee joint. Not only do they have a slew of different coffee drinks, iced drinks and tea, there is also a huge selection of desserts, pastries and different soups and sandwiches which are healthy and delicious. I love to sit outside on the patio under the trees and people watch while sipping my tea! Rembrandt's isn't cheap, so it's a place I go to only once in a blue moon. Additionally, because of the area it's in (Bluff View arts district), you may pick up on the snooty vibe of some of the customers.

  • Marianne D. W.

I can't speak for the coffee since I'm a tea drinker but they have a huge selection of tea so right away, they get a couple stars for that. And their pastries are great and fresh. I usually get the huge chocolate chip cookie at about $1.85 (with almost more chocolate than cookie) and my friend recently had the apple strudel which was more pastry dough than the usual flaky filo-like dough but still delicious. You can sit inside and enjoy your drink and food (they also have Italian ices, wraps, salads) but if it's a nice day in Chattanooga, sit outside on the light and open enclosed brick patio at the scattered tables and enjoy the plants and water feature in the corner. I've only been midday or in the afternoon on weekdays and there are always tables available. Then go for a stroll along the Tennessee River or enjoy the scattered sculpture that's outside for everyone to enjoy.

Great place. Great coffee and friendly staff. Breakfast and coffee I had were wonderful. It's a charming place that feels very unique. They have a nice pastry selection. The outdoor patio is huge. My wife keep telling me over and over how good her coconut coffee was. I love the area of town it's in as well!

Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum. I love this place. Coffee is great, but pastries are even better! I don't care what diet you are on, you have to try something there! I love the tiramisu or the Chocolate Nun. My family loves the macaroons!! Worth the trip

My girlfriend and I came here when we were spending a weekend in Chattanooga. We were looking for something local and different than the normal chain coffee stores. Rembrandt's offers a great atmosphere as well as a great location with a friendly staff. Our drinks were amazing as well as our food. We had the turkey and provolone wrap with mango sauce...so good that we drove up the following weekend from Atlanta to have it again. Well that and the heath bar frappe for me and the Reese's frappe for her.

This is definitely more of a tourist area, known as the bluff view arts district. I would probably only come here if on a date or if some of my friends came to visit from out of town. It's pretty but I wouldn't come here casually or to study. The surrounding area is very beautiful, if you walk about a block over you can see the river and get a gorgeous view of it and the opposite side. The restaurants in its vicinity are finer dining than the rest of the city. The coffee, chai latte, and espresso are good, and they have a large selection of pastries /delicatessen chocolates (I think that's the right word?). They also carry sandwiches, which are also ok. The seating is somewhat lacking. In the summer, the crowd is better able to spread out since they have a large patio. However, in the winter it can get pretty jammed up in here since there is a small room of tables and a few next to where people line up to order their drinks food. I agree with Diana L. that the staff and the general layout make it hard to handle more people. However, I have found the staff to be very nice in general. The area right outside and behind is very adorable with a fountain and cobblestone, you should definitely check it out if you're here. Overall, I don't go very often, only a select few times, but will probably return a few times in a year.

Russian tea biscuit was lightly dusted with icing sugar. It melted in my mouth. The small bits of nuts gave the biscuit a yummy crunchy texture at the same time. A lot of goodness packed into $1.50. Lovely atmosphere just by a little sculpture garden. Very glad I visited.

Overall this is a nice coffee house with a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, this place just isn't for me. It, like most of the art district, caters to the out of town tourist crowd and lacks any type of soul that is pretty notorious in most other locally owned Chattanooga coffee houses. The coffee: I had the house brew, black. It was good, nothing spectacular, but good enough for 1.50 or whatever it is. I doubt they roast their own beans here and if they do, I'm pretty disappointed. I don't want to call it bland, maybe just uninteresting. They also only filled my cup 3/4 full, kind of irritating but I understand that the majority of their customers prefer cream and sugar. Chocolate: I had a chocolate raspberry desert of some kind. It was very good and quite rich. Went well with my coffee and was worth the money. Summary: if you're from out of town, check it out, you'll probably like it. I you live here in chatt, pass on it. You'll probably find yourself irritated by the store's "hey this is Chattanooga, we're artsy, progressive, and classy" vibe.

Good atmosphere but overrun with tourists. Like most things in the Bluff View Art District it's mostly style with little substance. The coffee lacks finesse due to inexperienced baristas, and the desserts look better than they taste.

By far my favorite coffee shop in Chattanooga. Every time I come home to visit, I always enjoy stopping by Rembrandt's for a variety of reasons. Tucked away in a somewhat touristy arts-district neighborhood near the Hunter Museum of Art (which is perched atop a bluff), one can get well-crafted espresso drinks while taking in a magnificent view of the city of Chattanooga and surrounding mountains. During warmer months, I rarely get drinks to consume in the coffee shop itself due to the fact that there's so much to explore and view in the immediate neighborhood. There's also a large, attractive patio should you want to stick around and still be outdoors. During winter, indoor seating is limited, which is my only complaint about the shop itself. I did go here for the first time yesterday to do work, though, and was able to set up at a corner table and be productive for a couple of hours. That said, I was a bit lucky to find that seat, and outlets to plug in your laptop seem to be limited. They have the largest selection of hot tea I've ever encountered at a coffee shop. Additionally, there's a decent selection of pastries and snacks in addition to more substantial meal-time options (the tomato artichoke soup is out of this world). The employees have always been kind, helpful, and knowledgeable (mostly college-aged individuals and 20-somethings).

This café became my favorite quickly when I moved to Chattanooga. The patio is absolutely an oasis. The coffee is always delicious and they have a roasting center nearby. Make a point to visit at the Holidays when they have free visits to the roasting center and samples. The Bluff View Bakery at the bottom of the hill makes the breads served here and you can skip over there and take home delicious bread after your visit. The tomato artichoke bisque soup is my favorite, although the portion is huge, so you may want to share. The fresh fruit is always a hit, as are all the desserts. I've never chosen one I didn't like. The lines can sometimes be long and frustrating, as they have two registers, but often only one open. But its worth the wait, and there's no other atmosphere quite like Rembrandt's.

Sandwiches and pastries look better than they taste and there was slow service. Waited 20 mins for to go order that the kitchen had ready long before the serving staff bothered to check. When we asked after the order they came back with it right away but it was cold and had clearly been sitting there for a while. I do like the outdoor seating by the fountain--would definitely return for coffee or tea.

Excellent Pastry! I've tried several things that were very good, but for me the sign of high quality was the fact that they had very good plain croissants. Most places have lousy or uninteresting croissants; the one I had at Rembrandt's was just right. It is also a very pleasant looking place with place with a good atmosphere, and it is nice that they have indoor and outdoor seating (with heat lamps on the patio). Although free wifi is perhaps more common than it used to be, it's still very welcome. I gave four stars because of the coffee. I'm sure that their espresso drinks are good, but I always gauge a place by it's ordinary coffee. This stuff was somewhere between mediocre and bad, which is really a shame. I will certainly be back, but only for the pastry (and everything else except the regular coffee). Oh, and the people there struck me as friendly and pleasant. Nothing wrong on that score as far as I could tell.

Rembrandt's is a lovely little coffeehouse, the perfect place to take a break when you're piddling around in the 'Nooga. My heart is deeply fond of the dessert selection, especially the chocolate raspberry butter cream. Because a lot of the desserts are small and well-priced (like $1.75-$2.50), you can either be prudent and have a couple sweet bites or go all out and gorge on two, or 10, or 20 sugary delights. The tea varieties are impressive as well--at least 20 Republic of Tea canisters line the front counter. I'm not a big coffee person but most recently had a delicious caramel latte at Rembrandt's, slowly sipping it on the side patio area on a cold, windy winter day. The only thing that disappoints me is the food. I've had a couple sandwiches at Rembrandt's (tuna and a chicken/red pepper panini). A waste of money and digestion, I say. Stick to the to-die-for desserts and hot bevs, and you'll be A-OK.

I've been stopping in at Rembrandt's for breakfast on my way to the client this week and have been overall pleased with it. Service is good, location is nice, food is alright and the coffee is decent but could be stronger. Also had espresso one night after dinner and it was good but not great. A sight better than Starbucks but has room for improvement.

Very good pastries and coffee. It's like a small pannera bread. We had a quick breakfast here before going to the aquarium. Excellent atmosphere, you feel right at home. I don't rate it a 5 star because there was so many people they where having problems attending. Other than that it was great

    (4)
  • Johnny R.

Coffee was decent but not great, the cups are really too large for most milk-based drinks (like lattes and mochas and such) and as a result they all taste more like hot milk than true espresso beverages. The foam on my latte was more soap bubble consistency than the creamy, thick microfoam that marks a truly great beverage. Pastries were good, definitely a step above average and the atmosphere was really great too and he patio is especially beautiful.

Beautiful location (specially patio area), great coffee and desserts. A and I were so impressed with Russian cookie and nam (I think that was it was called) that we went back again for breakfast. We should not have done that. I had veggie sandwich and A had chicken Panini. Both were pretty BAD. Will recommend it to anyone who is interested to enjoy hot coffee and indulge in pastries. If you want to eat something then a subway is a much better option.

Rembrandts is amazing! Great drinks, fantastic food, and enough desserts to make you gain 5 lbs. just looking at them. I recommend the house soup and the outdoor seating if the weather is nice, although the local birds are quite ballsy. We saw one go after a guys sandwich mid-bite! All in all though, if you find yourself in the art district and in need of coffee, this is the place.

If I had to use one word to describe Rembrandt's it would be charming. The coffee is very good and the desserts are absolutely fantastic. They even have a daily trivia question that will win you a free cup of coffee if you are smart enough to know the answer. Overall, highly recommended.

  • Joshua S.

The desserts here are simply the best in all of Chattanooga. Everything is house-made -- NOTHING is brought in from outside bakeries or vendors (ok some of the chocolates are, but that's only a tiny part of their selection). The coffee is roasted on-site. I make it a point to visit every time I visit Chattanooga.

    (5)
  • Bethany W.

Great atmosphere, with a killer outdoor patio built of stone & surrounded by beautiful climbing foliage and a fountain. Delicious desserts (the cream filled "Nuns" are my favorite). Decent coffee (there are better roasters in town, but the atmosphere and pastries are worth the visit). The food is hit and miss sometimes. It's definitely more of a coffee house than a restaurant. Not sure why it's listed under "restaurants in Chattanooga."

AMAZING!! I love everything about this place! The food is great (especially the desserts), service is great, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating (the outdoor patio area is really cool), and the coffee is amazing! The prices here are a little towards the expensive side, but still not super expensive overall (and I think the food and coffee are definitely worth the price)! The environment is nice and relaxed; perfect for a first date, studying, or a night out with friends. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!

Rembrandt's is one of those fabulous places in Chattanooga that just make it worth visiting. I miss chattanooga alot sometimes. People think that moving to the west coast would be much better. It is in some regards but Chattanooga has a charm of its own. Rembrandt's is one of those places. Its located in the art district which is really nice to begin with and perfect for a date or just a nice night out away from bars. You can start with a walk of the area and then head over for coffee and desserts. They have a great selection. The seating inside is limited but outside seating is much more abundant. And very scenic too. This is a great place to go with friends or family and just relax and take in the beautiful skyline.

Delightful coffee house on nestled in the Art distinct of the Noog. Armed with Religieuse (nun) , rumball, an iced mocha and cuppa joe we proceeded to relax on the sun-dappled courtyard and enjoy our little treats. With plenty of shade and a gurgling fountain, this might ever well be the best place to relax in Chattanooga. While neither drink was particularly memorable, the religiesuse was sweet and decadent. The ambiance is the hallmark here, demanding that you take a moment to appreciate a little serenity with your bonbons and caffeine.

I don't think there's a better place for deserts and bakery goodies in town. Every sweet is exquisite. As far as coffee shops go, I think it's more in the line of where-you'd-want-to-take-your-parents-out-for-a-snack-and-conversation than a coffee shop where you take a book or your computer to get work done. Beautiful outdoor patio.

If you're downtown, forget Starbucks - go to Rembrandt's! With an endless list of flavors for coffee and tea, Rembrandt's coffee is less than that ubiquitous brand, plus you get free refills for certain brews. And if you get the daily trivia question correct, you can win yourself free coffee! But don't just go for the coffee - the decadent desserts and pastries, as well is the tomato avocado soup make the trip well worth it. The outdoor seating is lovely on warm days.

Rembrandt's Coffee House is a neat little place in the heart of Chattanooga, TN. They offer nice coffee drinks and excellent desserts. Sometimes it feels a bit pretentious, as the staff are sometimes friendly, other times act as if they are better than you are (lighten up, it is only a coffee shop folks!) but the atmosphere is great and love to sit outside . I am giving 4 stars because of the great pastries and good coffee!

As a new resident of Chattanooga, this is bar-none one of my favorite spots in town for a peaceful moment with a cappuccino and a Chocolate Hazlenut dessert bite. Indoor and outdoor seating, family owned and operated, and high quality ingredients and top notch staff. I always leave with a bag of their House Blend coffee to brew at my home.

Okay....first of all--super cute place. Next, I had such an awesome drink here---it was the heath frappe. Seriously, you ask?!?! Yes!!! It was all sorts of divine. My dessert, however was not as good--I had the pistachio petite four looking thing. It was good, just not excellent. what WAS excellent, however, was my friend's rum ball. Seriously--this thing was the size of a child's fist and full of chocolatey rummy goodness. One bite would satiate you for sure, but there is a giant ball of goodness on your plate!!! I also got to taste my friend's reeses frappe which was also awesome! If I lived here in Chattanooga, I would be here all the time, taste-testing everything. I loved it here.

Not amazing. Had a frozen white chocolate coffee which was a bit watered down. Maybe too much milk? The only girl making coffee was working her butt off to fill the orders since it was super busy. Also had some sort of bar that claimed to be toffee but could find much toffee on it. Hubby had a chicken caesar salad which was a good size for the price but nothing special.

Best cup of coffee I've had in Chattanooga. I love the space and there are many tables to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. Wifi was really slow when I was there which is disappointing because I was hoping to work for awhile. They do have free parking out front. Desserts looked great- I got tiramisu. It was alright but a little soggy. However, I would definitely go back to try sandwiches, soup, biscotti, cookies, or even the yummy looking cakes.

Now that I'm gone, I really miss this place. Love their tea and cakes. I always get the sonata cake. It's to die for. I had to order a whole cake and take it with me to NJ. They make good sandwiches as well. I usually get the roast beef. I like that it's not loaded with a lot of meat. Favorite soup was the tomato artichoke soup. nice and creamy with big chunks of tomatoes. Really missing this place. I can almost taste that sonata cake.

Perfect little coffeehouse in the Art District. It's clean and has a wonderful selection of coffee, pastry and sandwiches. I love it.

Great local coffee/dessert place on the river bluffs in downtown Chattanooga. The pistachio buttercream dessert is unbelievable. Do yourself a favor and hit one of the many great local spots for dinner and then head to Rembrandts for dessert.

Oh, wow. Tried several of their treats (all were good) but the chocolate covered macaron (think almond cookie not coconut) was to die for. That alone will bring me back for another visit the next time I come through Chattanooga!

I'm a big fan of Rembrandt's primarily for its ambiance and getaway-feel. It's reminiscent of a European coffee shop, and on a beautiful day, provides a great patio to read, work or talk. I visited several times during my last visit to Chattanooga. During my visits, I had a Latte, an Americano, and a regular cup of coffee (Sumatra). The Latte was good, not great, but the Americano was sub-par. Too much water and enough espresso. Despite this, they have great daily coffee selections which I enjoyed.

Rembrandt's was highly recommended when our friends heard we were visiting Chattanooga. We found it cozy, clean and friendly. I ordered the large latte and a pastry and my wife ordered a specialty coffee. We were both happy but not overjoyed. I would certainly go back if I were in the Arts District, but not sure I would go out of my way to return. Overall nice coffee and snack shop!

The perfect café with coffees, biscotti, scones, muffins, and chocolate goodies. The outside patio seating is wonderful and scenic. If you come to Chattanooga, take a break from the aquarium district (just a short walk away) and enjoy the Art Bluff district by enjoying a nice coffee and pastry here before heading off to Tony's for a fine Italian meal. The regular "coffee of the day" here was slightly anemic for my taste, but they have many coffee choices. They also offer soups and sandwiches if you want to enjoy a meal here.
