I had dinner and drinks here with friends recently while passing through Aberdeen on a road trip. I gotta say -- this place is awesome! First off, great selection of both tap and bottled beers, including some stuff I have never had before, which is cool, because I like to try unfamiliar beers. Further, someone mentioned that the Bloody Mary was good, so I tried one. Excellent. Another person at our table ordered a Bloody Mary made with bacon vodka, and it was also excellent. I love Bloody Marys, and I like them spicy, but a lot of places put too much horseradish in them for my taste buds to handle. Not so at Mavericks. Bloody was perfect. Hadn't eaten all day, so there was a lot of food coming. Apps: We shared the Spinach Artichoke dip and the Chislic. The dip was good and came with an array of toasted bread, but the Chislic was the real treat. I have never heard of this stuff before, but it sounded good in the menu description, so gave it a shot. Wow. Need to find a restaurant here in AZ that does this:). If you stop by Mavs, you gotta try it! Dinner: Have you ever heard of "Pork Wings"? I hadn't. Our server said they were new on the menu, and good, so I decided to order them. They are basically pork ribs, I think roasted and then flash fried, but the bone is cleanly exposed on one end of each rib so you can pick them up and eat them like wings, but without getting all messy. They were absolutely awesome! The meat was perfectly cooked, very tasty, and literally came so cleanly off the bone that there was nothing left on the bones at all when I was done. Honestly, while these things came with a really good bbq sauce on the side, the Pork Wings didn't really need it. The meat was seasoned perfectly. I realize I'm using a lot of "perfect" here. Can't help it. It's that good IMO. Service was good, attentive. Tons of TVs, but there's plenty of seating away from the TVs so you don't have to be in front of them if you don't want to. Also, they have a couple of video games and even friggen corn hole boards in the restaurant, so, played some corn hole before closing out for the night. I also have to add, we were there for at least 40 minutes after the restaurant closed. Not once did anyone say "we're closing", or ask us to wrap things up. They let us finish at our own pace and were perfectly polite about it. I think I even ordered a final drink after they had already closed, and they brought it right out. I noticed that there were also still several people at the bar. Mavericks would obviously prefer to pay it's employees a little extra for their time than cut off diners at 10pm. I imagine if we had been the only remaining patrons, it might have been different, but there were a good number of people still there enjoying themselves. I think this place is great. If I ever make it back to Aberdeen, I'll be eating at Mavericks again for sure....

Pathetic excuse for a buffet. Food is old and dry and they stop replenishing the buffet an hour before it ends. Manager didn't give a crap that customers didn't get what they paid for. NEVER AGAIN !!!!!! AVOID this rip joint. Didn't deserve even 1 star but can't post with zero stars.

Maverick's wants to be great, it just isn't. Food is more Outback or Lone Star quality. Not what I'd expect from a cattle-country local place.

Great bar service by Cassie. Good food. Cold beer. Restaurant closed at 9:00 so dined at bar.

Fine but beware of false advertising. The food was good. Service (Shamee was her name) was okay. She was nice enough but would forget to bring drinks until reminded. I went with two other people. The table had a sign that asparagus was only a $1. It seemed too good to be true but that's what it said. I ordered asparagus and Shamee later came and told me that it was $1 plus the extra side charge of $2.95. So, at Maverick's, $1 is almost $4. Because we were with other people, I had to let it go but I believe this is false advertising and not a way to treat customers. If your signage is wrong, honor the pricing and then change the table tents. Easy fix. But don't charge me for your mistake.

Had a NY strip steak here; very tough although it was served medium rare. Leads me to believe that the grade of beef used here is poor. Salad was a basic iceberg lettuce and mediocre at best. Service was good. I would not order this again as maybe some of their other items are better.

The service at Mavericks has always been great! The food is decent as well for the prices they charge.

Great food, horrible service at the bar on both of my recent visits. DON"t sit at the bar to eat, on both visits my service was HORRIBLE. Connected to my hotel otherwise I would go elsewhere.

I wanted to write a better review. But its really a different place since it moved to the new location. Was my casual alternative to Minerva's but seems to have stepped up to chain restaurant standards with all that goes with it.

Food was good and our waitress was friendly but she added an 18% tip to our bill automatically and didn't tell us. We didn't notice so we tipped another 20%. She never said anything and took a 40% tip!! Check your bill!

Went here with a family group of 8, while staying at the Holiday Inn Express next door (great hotel!). Service was good, but food was so-so. I figured that steak and ribs would be great in South Dakota. Both were way over cooked. The ribs were like jerky. I had the steak Cajun pasta...which wasn't bad. Tried the Cajun beef soup, which was very salty. For the price of dinner, I was a bit disappointed. We had a better meal at Perkins down the street...and for half the price.

This place is a joke. Fake plastic cowboy themed monstrosity. I try not to give bad reviews, but I've given these guys plenty of chances. Mediocre steaks, and apparently they don't know how to cook them RARE. Terribly slow service and wait times, even though there are empty tables everywhere. I have no idea why people wait in line to eat here.

My experience was great! I sat at the bar around 4pm and for a while on a Saturday and had great service from all of the bartenders. Shane stands out as the best! Pulled pork sandwich was delicious, decent draft beer selection. The whole place seems to run pretty smoothly! Coupons on the website and the fact that it is connected to my hotel brought me in the door initially...but I will definitely return in the future!

Poor service. Mediocre and off pudding bar drinks. Food was decent but not even close to the prices charged.

Think Texas Roadhouse and you will be OK. Good value but far from being a nice Steakhouse.

    (3)
  • Toni B.

The atmosphere was very cool. Kind of roadhousey. We sat on the 'porch' area. Nice. Waitress was good. She was very attentive. The lunch buffet was really bland and a big mistake.

I like the steaks at Maverick's. Everything is good but the meat is great.

  • Kyle Z.

Pretty good. The main complaints I saw were long wait times, which I did not experience. Soup was out in a couple minutes and food was out about when you would expect it. No problems here. On the food side of things, I got the cajun chicken alfredo. It tasted decent, nice and creamy, although it was getting to the point where it was almost too rich if that makes sense. By the end of the meal however, the sauce kind of separated; the creamy part on bottom with a disgusting brown oily mess on top. This fact alone makes me wanna rate a little lower, but everyone else's food was good, so it must have just been the one thing I ordered. Food cost 11.50 with no drink.

  • Doug S.

I ordered the 16 oz ribeye. It was one of the best I have ever had. This is the 2nd time I have eaten here and have enjoyed both experiences. I will come back every time I am in town.

One of the best restaurants Aberdeen has to offer. Rarely anything but a fantastic experience. Great Steaks and Ribs, the Jack Daniels menu is superb and I've heard their Pasta is good as well. If you want a great meal and aren't worried much about the price this is the place to go

Great Bloody Mary's, ribs, and fast friendly service. A must stop for anyone visiting Aberdeen!

  • Kimberly M.

Best Bloody Mary's I've ever had. In fact, until I had a Maverick's Bloody, I didn't even like Bloody Mary's .. Whatever the secret is in the Mary is enough to have won me over:-) The ribs are the best I've had east or west of Kansas City. You can eat them purely with a fork because they are so tender and moist. Love the BBQ sauce. The pulled pork moist, tender and yummy. I can't say enough about the food at Mavericks and its well worth the stop while in Aberdeen.

Always busy. Expect a wait If you're going to dinner here. Two hotels are connected to it so it's always packed. Good drink selection. Food is just ok. I've had appetizers: spindip, nachos, chislic-none is good. Even their salad and steak is a let down. Oh well. This place is too convenient not to go if you're staying at one of the hotels. Next time I'm getting food before I go hang at the bar.

  • Jen B.

Best place in town!! Highly recommend! LOVE the Walleye and AMAZING Bloody Mary's. Staff is quick and friendly.

  • Megan K.

Terrible service. We've been to this place twice while in Aberdeen and they ignore you when you're seated and there are staff who are not assisting other customers. Last night we sat in the bar and they weren't even busy but no one came to our table so we eventually just left. The guy behind the bar looked at us and kept drying glasses.

    (1)
  • Joseph N.

About the only good thing about this place is is proximity to the hotel I was staying in. I tried twice abs was disappointed both times. The service was slow, albeit very nice. The food was mediocre at best. The steaks were okay, but the sides were awful (stay away from the garlic mashed potatoes and the broccoli). The beer selection was good, but not enough to save a bad meal.

    (2)
  • Garry S.

Good bloody marrys and good location. I would like a better cut of meat and a better steak coming from a place thats in the heart of cattlecountry. For being a steak house i would rathe go to a Golden Corral to get a better steak.

    (2)
  • Bryan G.

Service was slow. Waitress had to come back 2 times to verify our order. After 20 mins our salad came. 45 mins later the food came which was decent at best if you like very salty food. It wasnt even busy. Soda was served without straws and the waitress mixed up our order on drinks and food.

I eat here every time I'm in Aberdeen! Judging by some of the negative reviews, either they don't know a good meal if it stared them in the face! Or maybe they don't understand that if you say the food was good but service was slow would normally still get you 3 stars! In Europe service is very slow! Relax people! Your meal shouldn't be a race!! Whatever their issue was, here is my long winded 2 cents....To start, this is a prime location connected to the Hampton hotel and convention center. They have a huge screened in patio perfect for summer nights and completely enclosed with big garage doors and heated in the winter. All of the wood in the interior I have been told is reclaimed barn wood which gives the place a rustic feel. Great ambiance! And always spotless! The wait staff is friendly and accommodating. All of their cuts of beef are top grade angus corn fed beef. I recommend the Name sake cut, the Maverick. Tender and flavorful! I also recommend the artichoke dip as a starter. And to drink, they have lots on tap, plus their signature Bloody Mary's. I hate bloody Mary's, but Mavericks are soooo good they've made me a fan... Of their version at least;) The only negative I will add, or at least just more of my honest personal opinion, is I think their menu has way too many items. It takes a while to wade through all the options. I think if they focused on their top sellers and scrapped the rest, the end results would benefit all parties involved. But just for that I still think for Aberdeen,SD they deserve all 5 glorious stars I gave them.
