Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

Fast-food restaurants like Pizza Hut are not recommended to dine-in if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure. Most pizzas at Pizza Hut are high in sodium and hence you must stick to one or max. two slices of any regular size pizza to limit your sodium intake. Try out the salads as they are not only healthy but also keeps you full for a longer period. However, you must ensure that you don't order the salads without any extra dressing.

High Cholesterol at Pizza Hut

Whether large, medium or small, a pizza can boost your cholesterol levels instantly. You shouldn't eat more than one slice of any pizza your order at Pizza Hut. If you're concerned with your high cholesterol, then it is wise to take your friends to Pizza Hut and share pizza among them slice by slice. You can also try pasta at Pizza Hut but ensure that you are not adding any dressing or extra cheese as you order pasta.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for High Cholesterol

Keep your pizza intake to one slice to avoid high cholesterol intake while you dine at Pizza Hut. Skip Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice as it contains a high amount of fat and the sodium levels are also very high. Avoid the desserts section completely to limit the fat and sugar intake. Come here for the pizza and stay here for the pints on Tuesday! Awesome selection of craft beers for only 2.00, sucks that's it's only Tuesday but this might help you make it through the week. Nice place away from downtown with some decent slices to chow down on.

Awesome food...Horrible music. it's been about 15 minutes and already heard more than one Linkin Park song. Garlic knots were amazing.

I really like the Pizza Joint. I both eat in and get it to go. I love the crust on their pizzas and garlic knots! They're delicious! They also serve huge pizzas that you can split with a group of friends or family. My boyfriend prefers Village Idiot, but Pizza Joint is the only place where I willingly eat the enter crust! Service was great, the wait wasn't long. Beer specials aren't bad either.

The last 2 times I have stopped in here I've been sorely disappointed ...the garlic knots were either very undercooked or overcooked. The service has always been good. Tonight though was a different story..I decided to give them one more chance. Had a hard day at work and was really looking forward to some comfort food.I always order the same thing...garlic knots and a slice of white pizza with pineapple and ham. This time it was absolute PERFECTION. ..the food as well as the service! The knots were done just right and this pizza was very flavorful :) .I don't think they could have improved on this wonderful meal ...even if they tried! am glad I stopped in...they do have the best garlic knots in town Oh...the server suggested on adding a little bit of Alfredo sauce as the pizza base.. 2 words to describe it..OMG..YUM!!!!!

This place rules! Went here on several occasions while stationed at Relaxin' Jackson for a couple months, and every time was a great experience. Everything here is awesome, from the laid-back atmosphere, the friendly staff, the excellent beer selection, and the outstanding pizza. I currently live in Chicago, where there are plenty of great pizza options available, and if there was a Pizza Joint back home, they'd be getting quite a bit of my business. The slices are good sized, and everything, dough/crust, sauce, cheese and toppings taste fresh. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and give this place a try.

Good pizza and a good selection of beers on tap. Sports bar type of atmosphere good variety on their menu.

Great start of an awesome meal with my favorite brew on draft and Cold to perfection. The Mediterranean was the pizza for today. I recommend it with the choices of Roma tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles, chicken slices, with a tomato base. The meal warmed my soul with a super hearty meal complimented with my favorite cold brew. I give a 4 star of 5 because I love crunchy crust pizza, where this pizza was a homemade pizzeria type pizza.

Excellent service. Very friendly. Phenomenal salad and pizza! They have a great beer selection.

  • Howard K.

This review will be pretty simple. I do agree with the reviews here about how the food is good as are their different beers, but I have been here a few times for lunch and never waited less than 45 minutes for a single pizza. Never again.

  • Joshua L.

Crazy good deal on Tuesdays. $2 slice and $2 draft beers. Decent selection of craft beers on draft. However, be prepared for madness. The place will be packed and Pizza Joint is one of those restaurants that refuses to use a hostess to seat patrons. It's like vultures circling overhead waiting for their chance to get a seat. The pizza is large and floppy with a medium hard, powdery crust. It's my 3rd favorite pizza in town. They have some good sandwiches too, with an interesting bread.

Always good. Never disappointing. If I could say one negative it is this - with the popularity of beards, I really don't care for them around food. You wear a hair net on your head for a reason- hair falls out. Could you have a "beard can't be longer than this long" policy?

  • Amanda B.

We recently had some friends tell us about the Pizza Joint so we decided to try it out and it is now at the top of our list for pizza places! The atmosphere is laid back but family friendly. A full beer selection and we were pleasantly surprised when our waitress told us they had $5 pitchers of some domestics! We made our own pizza and it was delicious. Not super filling to the point where we were miserably full. The crust was garlicky but not overwhelming. We had two pitchers and a 14" pizza and it was only $29. Great find and highly recommended!

  • Server C.

Only go on Tuesdays. 2.50 for slices and beers. Expect it to be packed to the rim. Regulars have taken over the place... The pizza is okay, worth 2.50 for sure..the service is lackluster, clearly overworked on Tuesdays due to the crowd. If you go, remember that tuesdays are discounted days... And that the servers need to be tipped accordi ng ly... Maybe thatd help the level of service. Dont ruin it for others!! Great place for great beers for a good price on Tuesdays.

    (4)
  • Charles R.

I have always enjoyed coming to Pizza Joint. The prices for beer and pizza slices or pies can not be beat! Make sure you give extra time on Tuesday cause the crowd can be big and parking is fun, don't park in front because you can get blocked in. One tip is to ask for you pizza to get run through an extra half to get it warm and crispy!

    (5)
  • Scott F.

Great pizza. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They do give military discount also! Cool place to hang out

This place was recommended on yelp so I said screw it and drove 15 min to this place. I was greeted by a few of the staff who were very friendly and were quick to take my drink and foot order. This guy helped tell me about the specials and ended up getting a half off large 2 topping pizza and mozz sticks. The sticks came out first and they were very good and I enjoyed the marinara. The pizza was good as well even though I wish it was cooked a alittle bit longer, oh well, still filled me.

They must be hurting for money because the parking lot needs replacing and the booths are duct-taped. The food is ok and the atmosphere good when you don't want to dress up or do want to watch a game on their tv's.

This place has always been 50/50 for us. Sometimes it's really great and other times the whole thing falls apart, but this past time was the worst yet. We got there on a Saturday evening and selected a table outside. The waitress came by and here is the running conversation. I still can't believe this happened. Waitress: "Has anyone come by yet?" Me: "No, not yet." Waitress: "Ok. What do you want to drink?" *flips hair behind her, smacks gum* Me: "Do you have a beer list?" Waitress: "Um, well, we keep running out of them, so no. How about you just tell me what kinds of beers you like, like if you like IPAs, I'll tell you what to get." My Husband: "Hmm. Maybe I should just go inside and look at the beers on tap." Waitress: "Yeah, that's a good idea. You can do that. I'll be back." (Note - thanks for the permission to do your job for you!) Waitress: "Do you know what you want yet?" Me: "I'll have a Fat Tire and a water." Husband: "I'll have Bell's Amber." Waitress: "Um, I don't know which one's which. I think this one is yours and this one is yours, wait...I dunno..." Husband: "That's ok. We'll figure it out." Waitress: "Hehe. They mixed them up on me!" *flips hair* (Note - didn't get the water I requested.) Waitress: "Do you know what you want to eat yet?" Me: "Yes. We'll split the large salad, NO CHEESE, balsamic dressing. And we want the veggie pizza, but I need half with NO CHEESE AT ALL and NO OLIVES please." Husband: "On the other half, can I have just light cheese?" Waitress: "Um, sure. No cheese on half, light cheese on other half. Got it." *doesn't write it down, flips hair again, stares into the sun* Me: "There's no way in hell this food is coming out right." Waitress: "Here's your salad!" *runs off before we can tell her the mound of cheese on top is not what we ordered* Waitress: "And here's your pizza." Me: "We said no cheese at all on half." Husband: "And light cheese on the other half." Waitress: "Um, I don't think so. You said light cheese." Me: "No. Definitely not. I can't eat this. I'm sorry." Husband: "Yeah, my wife doesn't eat cheese at all." Waitress: "Okaaaaaay, I'll have the kitchen make a new one." *flips hair, smacks on her gum* (Note - I realize "no cheese" on a pizza is weird. I get it. I'm vegan. That's why I said it very loudly and clearly.) Me: "Knew it! The mound of cheese on the salad was a bad sign. Or maybe it started with the beer list." Husband: "Full cheese AND olives on the pizza! You've got to be kidding me!" Me: "This is why they should write it down!" Husband: "You've got to admit this is funny." Me: "Only because I'm not hangry yet. Otherwise I'd be pissed." Dear Pizza Joint Owners - This is ridiculous. She cared more about flipping her hair (gross for a food establishment by the way) than serving your customers. I know she's young, but come on! She's got to be costing you a small fortune on food returns and remakes. The other waitress we saw was busting her tail out there and doing a great job! Dear Everyone Else - Do yourselves a favor and order delivery from Marco's Pizza. It'll taste better, they listen to your order and you can enjoy a beer you can identify on your own porch.

I've eaten here twice in the past year. Seeing negative comments about the service, I have to say that was not my experience - the service was good. I have tried the BBQ chicken pizza and the jerk chicken. Both were good. The pizza dough is sweet, similar to Mellow Mushroom. The crust is not crisp, and due to all the sauce and toppings, I chose to eat mine with a knife and fork. Gasp! But it was very tasty. Also tried the garlic knots. They were good but I probably would not order them again just to save more tummy room for the pizza.

Great pizza! Nice family "pizza joint" feel! This is one of the best places for a great pizza I've experienced in Cola! The atmosphere is very comfortable family style - a little bit warn, a little busy, and loud,,, But the pizza and calzones are killer! They have a decent beer selection and and the prices are very decent!! A must if you're on the hunt for a good pizza in Columbia!

Good pizza kind of expensive though. Some pretty girls working. Hawaiian pizza my favorite. Will be going again.

Well, I'm glad I took a chance with this place. The staff was nice and quick. The pizza was sooooo good. Open bar. If the bartender didn't know the drink, he'd google it lol. All in all, I enjoyed it.

Pretty good food, good happy hour specials. It would seem to be a better place in the vista but seeing as how I only live around the corner from here, I'm happy its not :) Staff is always nice, place is clean.

What can I say...Good food and drink. We used to live in Augusta and loved Pizza Joints there. We we happy to see one in Columbia. A little hesitant to try since we have had the "best". This Pizza Joint was probably the best I had. My wife and I shared garlic cheese bread and each had a slice of pizza. Had RJ Rockers on tap too. Bartender could pour a decent beer too; perfect amount of head!

  • Gwonk B.

Great pizza with plenty of toppings and specials all week. The college kids that staff the place are slow and can be rude at times, but it's worth it for the pizza. It's really good and probably some of the best in Columbia!

  • Jason R.

I have stopped in a couple of times in 2011 and in my experience they have vastly improved. Perhaps they have taken notice of the reviews here. Either way, servers have been friendlier and actually shown interest in me as a customer, it's been a huge improvement.' Oh, and I tried the honey on a slice...it's just doesn't work for me. However, their 20" pepperoni pie to go for only $10 is an awesome deal.

  • Ron V.

It sure isn't as good as the Pizza Joints in Aiken or Augusta. Their Stromboli also doesn't compare. They need to check with those other restaurants and find out what they are doing different,

  • John C.

Don't do it! Back away! That is what I should've been doing. Instead of giving this place a chance, but I did. And I have to say it one more time having a large pizza doesn't mean anything if it sucks. Doughy, watery mess of a pizza... And I know the recipe called for sugar, but I want some tomato sauce with it. Please tell me why the hell didn't the sauce have flavor you put a gallon of sugar in it? Will not be back! Horrible sauce and dough beat, good toppings and cheese any day. Get the topping and cheese on the side, and hold the sauce and the dough. Side note if you want good food go across the street to Pasta Fresca that place is worth your money.

I have eaten at Pizza Joint about 3 or 4 times, it is pretty good--especially for Columbia pizza which tends to be pretty bad anyway. The sauce is a little to sugary for my taste but the crust is pretty good. The pizza could be cooked for about 5 minutes longer, so the cheese and crust are a little more crusty and crisp. Next time I order I might ask them to cook the pizza a little longer. From my experience it is best to order pizza with fewer toppings. The crust is nice and thin but it doesn't hold up to many toppings. 2 or 3 max. The service is a little touch and go. Sometimes I get an attentive server, sometime not. But every server I have had has a positive attitude and is friendly which makes a difference to me. Overall not bad for a pizza and beer.

So this restaurant kills me. I live within 5 minutes of their Forest Acres location. The pizza is very good. They have an almost daily carry-out special for a 20 inch pepperoni pizza for 10 bucks, it's a great value. They have a nice happy hour with a wide selection of beers, perhaps 30 beers are on tap. That's the good. The bad is mostly anything service related. The restraurant is staffed mostly by college kids who aren't interested in serving customers with that "local neighborhood restaurant" level of service. Getting a soft drink refill here is impossible unless you take your cup to the bar. The kitchen rarely has meals out in a timely manner. I think there are three managers working different shifts, none of them are interested in making things right when the kitchen or wait staff makes a mistake. Ie, my fiancee and I decide to roll the dice on Pizza Joint after coming into town on a late flight. She orders a salad which comes out in 20minutes. I ordered a couple of slices that came out 35 minutes later. Apperently they had run out of dough. Keep in mind, no one tells us that so my fiancee sits at our table not wanting to eat while I have nothing to eat. We decide we are leaving after being there for over an hour. The manager, a 20 something guy with a buzz cut insists we pay for the pizza that still hasn't came. I leave 10 for the salad and the drinks and leave. They will not accomidate vegetarians who want to take advantage of the 10.00 20 inch pizza deal by just ordering a cheese pizza. The best part is, as I have mentioned, the restaurant is staffed by kids. So the right side of the bar is constantly packed with Pizza Joint employees drinking and carrying on or just waiting for their ride home. So if you want to watch a game over happy hour at the bar, good luck because the bar is monopolized by college kids who work there. This is a restaurant that bugs me. I used to co-manage a restaurant that my family owned. I have gone so far as to try and setup time with the owner, Dave, and walk through my issues with the place. Among my group of 25-30 friends who ALL live within two miles of this place, the service is a joke. I have actually heard a friend say, "We could get pizza from the Pizza Joint..., but man I don't want to deal with the jerks that work there." The worst of all possible battles in the restaurant business is having food people want to eat and the Pizza Joint has that in spades but it is without a doubt the most poorly run business I have ever interacted with. I hope someone who knows what they are doing takes the place over because I would Love to be able to get a tasty slice right across the street. 8.9.10 Went back here a few nights back. Same issues, this time a restaurant employee made me leave my seat at the bar because he was holding it for his buddy, who also works at the Pizza Joint. They really take customer disservice to a whole other level. I applaud them, normally places like this are gone in under a year but people keep coming back. Perhaps they are actually getting labor for free after all the money their employees put back in the bar at the end of the night.

This is the best lunch place in town! I've been several times and yesterday, I took several colleagues and they agreed. The price is phenomenal and the food is great. For just $5.25 you get a choice of two of the following: half of a sandwich (chicken parm, Big Mike -my fave!-, Billy Club), salad, pizza or bread sticks. I've only been here for lunch, but it looks like it they have great happy hour specials too.

Absolutely fabulous pizza! The craft beer selection included local selections that we love. Definitely will return soon to try the garlic knots and another specialty pizza!

One of the best pizza places. While training at Ft Jackson for 3 months we went to a lot of local places, but I think we went here the most often. The Monday deal of 1/2 off 14" pizza was awesome. Good service, fun atmosphere, I'll miss it.

Decent pizza in SC is hard to find. The Pizza Joint offers a variety of sizes toppings and crust all in a family safe atmosphere , the restaurant seats maybe 50 including seating at a full service bar, additional seating outside that is not covered. There is plenty of on sight parking available. The salads were fresh, service was quick and the pizza was hot. There were two servers , ample for this size eatery.

Yesterday was my 4th visit to Pizza Joint Forest Acres. It getting three stars because of past experiences were great, but yesterday was pretty much terrible. Let me talk about our other visits, then I'll talk about yesterday, since I know most people don't make it much past the stars and the first sentence. In the past I would have given Pizza Joint a four or five star review. It's always been on point. Their Calzones and Strombolies are both dynamite most visits. I love the Veggie Calzone, and my wife loves the Italian meat Stromboli (not sure what the actual name is). We've had the meatball hoagie, and the meatball app as well. Enjoyed them both. Service has all ways been top notch, the beer is always cold, and the restaurant is clean. That is what made us drive across town yesterday to dine here. Yesterday was the first time I had their pizza. So to our latest visit, yesterday... We went during the off time of day, so we figure there may have only been one person in the kitchen doing a terrible job. Our waitress was awesome, but that was the only good part of this visit. Because my wife has eaten part of my veggie calzone in the past, she opted for it. We both LOVE artichokes, which is the first thing on the menu in the description of the calzone. Like I said, I hadn't ever tried their pizza, and since they had it by the slice I got pizza. My favorite pie is pepperoni, mushroom, and onions. The wife isn't a huge fan of that combo, so I took this opportunity to get my favorite. When our food came out, I immediately noticed that between my two slices of pizza there was a total of 6 pepperonis, and that each slice needed a little more time in the oven as the dough was soft. If these were small slices that wouldn't have been an issue, but they are nice large NY style slices. Which means I got maybe 7-8 bights between the two with pepperoni. As a former pizza maker at three different places, and doing food orders knowing what pepperoni cost (not to mention working with some lazy dudes in the past), I would put money on it that the cook's shift was ending in 30 minutes and he didn't want to restock the line. There is NO way it is protocol to put three pepperonis on one large slice of pizza. If you ever read my reviews, as a former food and bev person, I HATE sending food back. I was ready to do this, but when we saw how messed up my wife's calzone was we opted to send it back and both munch on the pizza while we waited. So her calzone... Like I said, one of our main reason's for ordering it was the artichokes. Side note, something we don't eat... BLACK OLIVES. The calzone came out with two cups of black olives in it with zero artichokes. Again, I'd say the cook didn't want to stock the line, so he tried to hide the fact that he didn't put artichokes on it by putting black olives on it. Did I mention the calzone doesn't come with black olives? The cook didn't even know his menu? We took the calzone to the bar where our waitress was waiting on another order and told her the dilemma. She took the calzone back to be remade. We shared my two pieces of pizza while we waited. These two pieces because of three toppings cost almost $5/per slice mind you (which wouldn't be an issue if I thought I got my moneys worth.) When the calzone came back we ate about half before boxing the rest and leaving. I really wish I could remember our servers name cause she was GREAT! We would never ask to have something taken off our bill. We pay for what we order on principal, but she had already taken the calzone off the bill. This was a great touch, and will ensure we come back... We will not come between 2:30 and 3:30 on a Sunday out of fear of the same staff member in the kitchen. I will update this review and make it much shorter after our next visit saying it's back up to par.
