My first visit to JP Spoonem's left me charmed, impressed and totally full-up - this place should be called JP Spoons 'Em Heafty Portions, because there is no way I could ever finish the amazing amount of food they serve on each plate. And let me assure you, I can heat. A lot. This diner-esque breakfast joint is like stepping into a time warp - I don't think it's been updated since they opened in the 70's. Low coffee counter, a few two-tops here and there and nothing fancy at all... Except the food. The menu is enormous, and you can literally get anything you ever dreamed of. There's a whole page dedicated to various creative Egg's Benedict combos, so naturally I focused in here. I decided to go with the Cajun Benedict, which features chourizo, pepperonchinis and a spicy Hollandaise with perfectly-poached eggs over an everything bagel. It was divine, and although I could only make my way through half of it, I was pleasantly full and high from the out-of-this-world flavor. My companion and I also split a pumpkin pancake, which they serve year-round and you should not miss. It was light, yet had a crispiness to it which made it even more scrumptious. The spices and pumpkin flavor really balanced out the sweetness, which was not overpowering in the least. It was lovely, and I can imagine these with a side of bacon or sausage being the perfect combo. At the end of our meal, the total came to $25, which is pretty outstanding - you can expect to spend twice that at most brunch joints in the PVD. The service was friendly, fast and personable and I have to say - I'm quite the fan of JP Spoonem's. Just remember that it's cash only and the ambiance is straight-up diner.

Love. Husband and wife owned. Plain, simple, real. From top to bottom. Been open most of my life. The consistency is key here. They are always on point. Breakfast: The best Corned Beef Hash ever. Hands down. Period. They make corned beef daily fir hash and sandwiches. Its rough cut not milled or ground. Perfect seasoning. Onions are still a touch al dente. I dream of it nightly. eggs are perfect. Specials are fun. Potatoes are standard. When I can I get well done steak fries instead. Nom. Lunch: corned beef sandwich or rubin. Steak fries. Heaven. Try the hash. Tell me I'm wrong.

I've heard some great reviews about this restraunt, and I am happy I did read them. I would have never even blinked an eye passing by it on the corner. I asked mty husband if we could try it for mothers day. It throws you off at first because the area is nothing to be desired, and the shop has not been updated since they built it in the 1940's. JP's is seat yourself, and there is not much room to choose from, but the waitress was very sweet and offered us a coner table. I ordered one of the daily specials, I dont remember the name but in short it was french toast with walnuts and a caramel syrup delectible drizzle. Every bite was delicious, the cooks did a great job. The entire bill, a cup of coffee, my french toast, my husbands eggs bacon sauage homefries, a glass of milk or two: all came to 19.18 Not bad at all.

I'm sure that there are better places to eat breakfast in Rhody. In fact, I'm sure that I've reviewed them since Hubs and I do love our breakfast. That said, the experience of J P Spoonem's is enough to overlook the 'normalcy' of their breakfasts. Sitting at the coffee bar with our infant daughter, we were immediately immersed in the hub of chatter going around the restaurant. The waitress clearly knew most of the folks there, and quite honestly I wanted to be one of the people that she knew as well. I ordered a pretty normal breakfast -eggs, toast, maybe sausage. I think the hubs had something more substantial (omelett or whatnot). Either way, we left feeling good about our meals and even better about the ambiance!

I found love at J.P. Spoonem's. Homemade salsa, ridiculously adventurous specials, awesomely retro u-shaped counter, plenty-o street parking, ginormous but approachable menu, generous portions, I could go on and on and on! I was torn between a special, the loaded home fries (think breakfast nachos with home fries as the base instead of tortilla chips), and an original creation with a name I forget (think eggs benedict meets an alfredo-based pasta dish). I went with the loaded home fries and was not disappointed. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Why not 5 stars? Could have been a little cleaner and a lot friendlier (we were waiting for 15 minutes without any form of acknowledgment, timeline update). Coffee was crap. And it was lacking on the special details like fresh squeezed orange juice. But I will be back. Again and again. To begin eating my way through the epic menu!

After living in Rhode Island for 3 years I finally made it t J P Spoonem's. When you walk in, it looks like a little old diner and smells like my grandmother's basement. (Although I actually like the smell of old and musty, not sure why but I do) The waitress warmly greeted me and told me I could sit where ever I would like. I sat in a nice little table by the window. I ordered corned beef hash, 2 over easy eggs, and rye toast oh and a hot chocolate. For some reason hot chocolate always tastes better at a diner even though they are using the same mix I have at home. The food came out pretty fast. The corned beef hash had big chunks of corned beef which I love! It could have been a little bit crispery but it still tasted delicious. The home fries were crispy and flavorful. Big portions and very cheap. My meal was under ten dollars. I would definitely come back!

This was an awesome meal! They were so accommodating and patient with our loud and messy children. Food was excellent. Johnny cake platter is no joke! A great introduction to this Rhode Island treat. Dig in and enjoy!

A food-gasm every time. No question the best French toast I have ever had. I come here all the time and it always seems to be better than the last time. I didn't know what to do after trying the salmon hash Benny because it was so good I could barely handle it. Wait staff is so friendly, service is fast, prices are so cheap for how amazing the food is. Best breakfast in Providence!

I went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago for a friend's birthday breakfast and I loved it the minute I walked it. It felt like I was over at a friend's house, the staff were welcoming and have a great sense of humor! I had an omelette with fresh mozarella and tomatoes and it was like eating a delicious Caprese salad. I'm not a big fan of potatoes in the morning, but I definitely devoured theirs. I liked this place so much I went back for the second time and took some new friends, everyone loved it. This time I had eggs in a tortilla wrap with jalapenos, tomatoes and cheese....Delicious. They have egg whites which is a must for me. They also have great tea. There may be a bit of a wait, but it's worth it. Thanks Jay for the introduction!

Best place for breakfast in all of RI!! The staff is super friendly, clean establishment, and the food!!! Oh my, be sure to try the hash, it's made in house and its out of this world. Blueberry pancakes are right up there with the hash. I really don't think you can go wrong with anything off of their menu and the specials are killer too. I make the drive from Burrillville at least once a month, totally worth it.

What is not to love about a neighborhood diner?! Tasty bfast overall -- crispy home fries, omelet cooked perfectly, and buzz buzz strong coffee. We sat at the counter and enjoyed chatting up other diners. Only point for improvement is for them to take credit cards. Helloooo it's the 21st century!

I've only been here twice, but so far so yummy! Last time I got their hash and eggs and it was seriously delicious. Best hash I've ever had out. I'm a pancake snob and their pancakes were pretty good. Nothing I'd necessarily recommend but if you're having a pancake craving, they'll do the trick. My sunnyside up eggs were perfectly runny and their HAM! WOOOO! I love ham and this is legit. Glad this spot is right up the road from me. Also, the service is so welcoming and friendly. The waitress is a sweetheart.

This review is based on the past visit only. I never had a problem and always liked this place. However, my boyfriend brought me food home from here, just now; and I was grossed out to find a squashed dead fruit fly on the top of the styrofoam container. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, I open it; but only to find a bunch more dead fruit flies on the inside of the container. I was absolutely disgusted. It all just went in the trash. What a disgusting waste! Who wants bugs in their food!!! I've lived here over 20 years, and would go here since I was a kid; but after this terrible experience, I honestly don't think I will ever go back.

OMG. I dream of the florentine eggs. (I don't do over-easy, but they will substitute egg whites if you want)... these are so tasty, I wish I had the ability to eat there every morning. Nice to have fruit as a side too. The ladies that wait the tables are super nice and accomodating, I really love this place and will be a regular as long as I live in the 'hood. Just be warned: there's a reason this place has a wait on the weekends - they're not pretentious and will fill your coffee as long as you sit there ;) Update: I've been out of the area for 3 years now and genuinely miss Spoonems. The place was reliable and tasty (a combo that's frankly hard to come by in some towns)!

My favorite breakfast place in RI, wish I still lived in the area. The owner's (Pat and Joe) are so friendly and really get to know their regulars. The homemade corned beef hash was my go to fave, made in an omelet. Sometimes the potatoes can be undercooked, so I would always ask for them "extra crispy. They always have mouth watering specials too (stuffed french toast/pumpkin pancakes etc...) It gets very busy on the wknds (usually a line), so get their early, but also worth the wait!

I am lucky enough to live close by to this fine establishment. To say J P Spoonem is a deal would be understatement. This place has two things going for it. Charm and reasonable prices. Its very much a mom and pop family own business. You will always find the same two waitresses out front and same two cooks in the back, and there is something very reassuring about that. Everyone is always friendly and if you become a regular, knows you by name. Did I mention its a deal. Like I said, I am lucky enough to live next to them and I can be in and out in the morning with full great breakfest and bottomless coffee for about 8 bucks with tip. All in about 20 minutes If don't have the time to stick around before work. They always have great specials and always at reasonable prices. All and all, its great diner food if that is the way you like to start a Sunday morning. Another big plus I like to mention is nice patio seating during the warmer months. Its Broad street and not edgewood, but still a nice area way to start the day in the sun. Now it is a bit small with a limited staff and during the busier times this can lead to a longer wait. Fortunately other then mid morning on the weekend, you don't run into that too often. All and all, friendly staff, cheap but GOOD eats, but a bit small, but depending on who you are, might be your type of place.

Yes, finally another breakfast joint that I can see myself returning to over and over. I know, Rhode Island has a lot of great diners; but it also has a lot of mediocre and bad diners. Even a few of the 'great' ones are not ones that you would see yourself frequenting on a regular basis. So what makes this one special? Well, it ticked all of the boxes. First, the staff is simply amazing. They chatted up the regulars, but they spent plenty of time with the first timers. They remembered our daughters name and the name of the stuffed animal she was dragging along. Upon departure, they made sure to wish us farewell and a quick return. Oddly, it actually sounded genuine. The place itself is very cool inside. It has a horseshoe counter and then the seating along the window and interior. It is not huge inside, but did not feel crowded either. The tables and chairs were sturdy, but kind of 50's ish style. It was also well lit inside. Next, they were very helpful when it can to the menu. They helped us narrow down the selection and provided their input. Not in the typical, 'well it depends', or 'it is all good' but more of an open dialog. So to the important part, the food. So I will start off with the Hash. This is what I use as a gage when eating breakfast at other diners. It is fresh and made on site. I could make a couple of tweaks. I would have liked it grilled a bit longer and a little less potato. But, I am going to admit that this stuff as is gives Modern Diner a run for the money. I might be persuaded to think if it did grill it a bit longer and put in less potatoes, it might be too close to Modern. So, as it was, it was really fantastic. This came with two eggs, toast and home fries. So the toast was great, and yes, I have seen that screwed up. The eggs were perfect. Cooked all the way but still moist. The home fries I think were more like potato chunks. I think the cut was a bit big, but they were cooked very well and were seasoned nicely. Not the best, but a good A- or B+ The wife had an order off their special menu, Cranberry Apple Walnut Pancakes. My daughter had a single pancake. I sampled the daughters pancake and it was great. It was cooked perfect and I do not think the mix came out of a box. It was a pancake that would make you feel like grandma just came out of the kitchen. My wife's were this huge heaping mound of pancakes with the Cranberries and fresh cut Apples cooked in, and candied Walnuts generously piles on. I did manage to get a small bite. I did have to wait until close to the end though. This was one of those very few times when you look over at the woman you love, who you have promised to share your life with and truly fear what will happen if you even consider moving a fork towards her plate. So I waited patiently. The patience was rewarded. I am not a total froufrou pancake eater. I like the odd blueberry pancake. So I would have never order myself, but they were really, really good. So bottom line, this is the first diner that my wife and I both looked at each other and said, "Next week?" and both nodded yes. This truly may be a 5 star place, but I need to wait until next week to see if they are consistant.

I love this place and miss it since we have moved from the area! Great food, great prices, and great service! We always came here for the breakfast, and enjoyed the homemade corned beef hash and several of the different egg benedict meals. We have tried the corned beef hash at many places in New England, and Spoonem's is by FAR the BEST! It is cash only, so make sure you have some on hand before you visit.

So I stumbled upon this place back in January 2012 while visiting family. I had the Johnnycakes and they were awesome! Crunchy on the edges and softer towards the center - I drenched them in butter and syrup and felt like I was in heaven:). I returned for another visit Labor Day weekend and was fortunate enough to find them on yelp - couldn't remember the name but figured it out with someone's review and description of the u shaped counter. Anyway I took my father, a Rhode Island native, and my sister-in-law who recently purchased a home in Cranston. I enjoyed the Johnnycakes again, my dad enjoyed the waffle with strawberries and whip cream ( he asked for extra whip cream twice and the waitress was very generous - I think he really wanted some whip cream with a little waffle), and my sister-in-law enjoyed her oatmeal - she had to go healthy on us! The service, portions and taste were all wonderful. I definitely recommend this place.

The Johnny Cakes here were disgusting. So so gross. Ours tasted like badly cooked polenta served with fake maple syrup. They were mushy and flavorless and I would not feed them to my worst enemy. To top it all off, they use yellow cornmeal instead of white. We barely touched ours, and noticed that the people sitting next to us also pushed theirs to the side. J P Spoonem's gives you more Johnny Cakes for less money than they do at Liberty Elm Diner, but there is no comparison in terms of quality. Go to Liberty Elm instead (about a mile away) or head over to Commons Lunch in Little Compton for the real deal.

Like stepping into your aunt's kitchen that hasn't been updated since the 60's, you are greeted with family like cheer. Portions are substantial and assuredly piled high with eggs and homefries. Good flavor. Cheap. And multiple options that come with both sweet and savory. The johnny cakes are made sweet and fried in oil. Top with butter and you have a nice little yummy. Nothing to write home about, but a good option if you're gluten free. Sadly they don't have pure maple syrup as an option.

I love this place. It is the perfect dinner that will really make you feel like you're eating at your grandmothers house. The food is excellent and fast. I have eaten there plenty of times and have never been disappointed. The owner is awesome and the servers were extremely polite. Definitely recommend this place for a nice family owned business.

Just had brunch here on Friday before the storm. They stayed open long enough to squeeze us in. We were seated promptly near the window by the friendly couple. The ambiance is similar to a ma and pa diner, very friendly and casual. Upon first glance at the menu I found tons of styles of brunch entrees like eggs benedict and florentine, and many omelets (my friend ordered the mozzarella omelet with egg whites). I opted for the California benedict (figures) and enjoyed avocado smothered all over my english muffins. The homefries are cooked perfectly and you can even order them crispy. The dish was complete with a side of fruit (cantaloupe). We also decided to share an order of their pumpkin pancake. This was definitely worth the splurge! Yum! Definitely a great place to have a casual meal. I will definitely return again.

Came here Sunday around 11:30/12. This was my first time coming here and I had always heard great things about it. The place looks like a diner, a clean one at that, with plenty of tables and a round bar like table in the middle with stools. My boyfriend and I snagged a table by the window and our waitress came over right away with menus. She was super friendly! After looking over the menu, which was SO hard because there were so many choices that looked delicous, I ended up ordering the Eggs Florentine. This consisted of two poached eggs layed over a spinach bagel with this delicious cheese sauce smothered on top. The sides were hash browns and fresh fruit. My boyfriend ordered the texas french toast which came with bacon and sausage. Our dishes came out in a timely manner and all i can say is WOW. I could not get enough. Everything was so fresh and delicious. That cheese sauce though... so good. I've been craving this meal ever since and I might have to make another trip this week. Love JP Spoonem's! Great customer service, super cheap and DELICIOUS!

I went for breakfast with a couple of friends recently. We had to wait a few minutes for a table, but that is to be expected on a Sunday morning. The menu is quite extensive with several eggs benny options, my favorite! The service was probably the slowest I've experienced at a breakfast place. My dish was very interesting with greek olives, feta, and tomato added to perfectly poached eggs, english muffin, and hollandaise. I definitely enjoyed it! Iced coffee was watered down, waffles were gross and had rotten strawberries on them, sausage was weird and spongey. The only thing that wasn't gross was the hash and it was only meh. I won't be eating there again.

This place is seriously amazing. The staff are wonderful and make me feel like I'm at home every single time I go. With a huge smile + hello... --- every single time always a warm welcome. The food is delicious. Slightly higher priced that other breakfast places but totally worth it. Sometimes the food can take a while because they are making it from scratch but that's why it tastes amazing. I don't eat hash but if I did I would eat theirs HOLY SMOKES every person that has ever had it has died + gone to hashieheaven. Also their setup is so cute in there---country bumpkin meet Cranston. Precious. The restaurant is super cozy so that means leave yourself some time for a seat + if you have more than 4 ppl not a good idea. I love this little gem. If you want splenda bring your own yo. if you want ur tum tum full + a smile on ur face for a whole day this is your kinda place.

If I could eat J P Spoonem's everyday I would. Breakfast is my heart and soul, and Spoonem's perfects everything that is breakfast! My favorite dish is the West Coast Benny: english muffin, two poached eggs, avocado, tomato, and hollandaise sauce. Another favorite is the Cajun Benny: everything bagel, two poached eggs, chorizo, banana peppers, and hollandaise sauce. The home-fries are the best I've ever had in my whole life. No other breakfast place compares. Very reasonable prices. Filling portions.You must go! *If you are a heavy coffee drinker you may have to persistently ask for another cup*

Stopped in for breakfast and was not disappointed. As I sat at the counter with my wife we were immediately greeted by a friendly server who answered our questions about the extensive menu options courteously and enthusiastically. I had the spinach and cheese omelet and my wife had 2 eggs and their house made corned beef hash. Both were excellent. Large portions and presented with class such as small wedges of grapefruit on the side of each dish and small triangles of cheese on top of the omelet. The homefries were exceptional also as was their coffee. I highly recommend this place.

Awesome, I will definitely be returning. For a little hole in the wall place, the menu choices were numerous and super creative. My pumpkin pancakes were awesome, and my three other dining companions all enjoyed their lunch entrees. There were at least three or four other dishes that I was dying to try (including the BBQ chicken grilled wrap, one of my friends got a grilled wrap and it was HUGE and delish-looking) so I'll have to come back and branch out a bit. They had four or five specials that sounded great, including home fries with sour cream, bacon bits, pepperoncini, and scallions, with two eggs on top, a French toast with caramel and chocolatee, and a Greek eggs Benny. The service was very friendly, the waitress clearly knew some of the 'regulars' in there but was still very attentive to us. It's a small place so I'm sure on weekend mornings it gets really full, but that won't dissuade me from returning!

So I had the pleasure of being introduced to this little place by fellow Elite Jay D., and I owe her a big thanks for it. Only negative I can find with the place is the semi sketchy neighborhood, but other than that it is all good. It's got your typical diner/breakfast joint feel.. a little outdated and a little run down looking, but man does it come through with the food. They do a great job with the basics, had straight up hash and eggs... good flavor on the in house made hash and tasty home fries... eggs cooked us the way I asked for em. They also have like a dozen different varieties of Eggs Benedict for every possible hankering. Mix this with a great old school staff and this place has just become one of my #1 go to breakfast joints. PS- Bring cash, they dont take cards.

I had high hopes for the place after my father, who had been to JP Spoonem's once before, insisted we stop on our drive home to Philadelphia from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The man knows good food, and hey, the other Yelp reviews were shimmering with fairy brunch dust. I couldn't wait for this pitstop on our trip. We rushed in with only 25 minutes to spare- we were trying to catch a ferry from CT to NY- and Joe and Pat (J&P, respectively!) ensured that our meals would be ready in time. And they were. Pat was perfectly friendly, super chatty, and the atmosphere screamed "hometown diner," only it was so tiny it felt like we were on a movie set. If it wasn't for the service, I would be giving JP Spoonem's just two stars. The meals were to-go. We ate them in the car, which may have contributed to our lackluster sandwiches. I had a turkey bacon/egg/cheese on a roll, which was drenched in butter and tasted just fine, but the homefries that came on the side were a sad sight. They looked like boiled yellow potatoes, with zero flavor, zero crunch, zero seasonings at all. Homefries are typically my favorite part of breakfast, and this was a major disappointment. My dad loved his homemade corned beef hash, which he claimed was "the best he's ever had." My one brother enjoyed his mozz/veggie panini, but my other brother was put off by his chicken salad, as was my mother. Don't you know? Never order the chicken salad before you know what you're getting yourself into. Even if the restaurant says they don't use Miracle Whip! My family always stops at the same restaurants on our road trips. We like tradition, familiarity, and tasty food. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be returning to JP Spoonem's- even if we do have the time to sit down and enjoy a leisurely meal.

Great place to find old style breakfast. The Hash is homemade and the best I have had. My wife loved the benedicts and they are very good and have a good selection to choose from. This is a hidden gem, but well worth the visit, just make sure to have Cash on hand for the bill.

So I went back to visit her last weekend while I slept I dreamed I went home and missed breakfast again... Fortunely I was still in RI in the morning. This was the best breakfast I've ever had. Hands down. I don't even want to eat breakfast ever again because nothing will live up to this breakfast. I got the greek benidict... which had cheese and the hollandaise sauce... Frozen in the 70's and that is okay with us. Breakfast does not need to be fancy to be good and this was good. I had eggs in the hole, again, out of the 70's, hole in the Texas toast and fry the egg in it. Oh, it came with potatoes, essentially cut up potatoes thrown on the grill and cooked, no seasoning. Also, two small johnny cakes. Very good. Husband got corned beef hash, this is his test, like the previous poster's scrambled eggs. A win for husband, no canned hash here. Staff was as friendly as can be, they were chatty if you wanted to be and left you alone if you wanted to be, as they did with the table of 4 guys finishing up their night. Two people, with tax, $20, cash only. A fair deal for a good sized breakfast that at least also covers lunch. We will be back. Since it is fairly close to the airport, it will be a perfect place to stop after an early morning flight. We will be back any time we are heading down that way at breakfast time.

Went for a late breakfast with my son on Saturday . This was my 4th visit here and it is by far one of the best breakfast places period. Great service , very casual ,at home diner ,type of feel . I had 2 eggs om , cooked perfectly , homemade hash browns , sausage and a grilled bagel . All outstanding . My son went with the ham and eggs with hash browns and toast . We both had coffee . Everything was served quickly , hot and delicious . I got an order of the apple cinnimon pancakes to go for my wife to enjoy later {which she did } . This is not the HILTON or so other fancy looking place , just a great little local place to get great food and great service at a very reasonable price . Dont pass on this place!!

Loved the feel of this place, the price, and staff. But not the food. My homefries had been so drenched in cooking oil that they turned to an unappetizing yellow. I like it best when the flavor of the food is celebrated and not covered with fat. My eggs were also overcooked. I won't eat here again.

If I was told that I had to pick my "last" breakfast, I would have to say that I would be telling the warden: "Call Spoonem 's!" They claim on the menu that they make the best hash in RI: they are right. The homefries are perfect and the Italian toast, sublime. The service is great: they are always there when you need the them but they DO NOT rush you. Maybe this is a factor in why I think of this as THE place to have my "last" breakfast. Hands down best breakfast place ever. I spent about 6 years living in New England (RI and MA) and despite all the great restaurants in Providence, I miss J.P Spoonem's. I judge a breakfast place by how well they prepare their scrambled eggs. If you can't scramble eggs, and breakfast is your specialty, then I will question the quality of other food items on the menu. This place makes excellent scrambled eggs, along with other great food items. J.P Spoonem's is a small place family run place, maybe capable of seating 20 to 25 people at once. Come there on a Sat or Sunday morning, expect to wait a bit to be seated. I used to go there about twice a month when I lived in the area. I had the opportunity on a trip back to eat there and I was pleasantly surprised when the owner still remembered me (the last time I was there was 3 or 4 years ago). I ordered my usual...the New Englander which includes Johnny Cakes, home fries, and scrambled eggs. Everything was just like I remembered it....awesome. I've had the pancakes and waffles and they are superb as well. They only take cash for payment, so be prepared.

Spoonem's has become my go-to breakfast spot. Like pretty much any place that serves breakfast on a weekend, there can be a bit of a wait. However, it's nothing compared to the hour-plus wait time of hipster paradises like Nick's or Julians. Spoonem's is a small place that just does breakfast and lunch. They've expended their offerings in the last year or so from just the traditional diner food to a more adventurous menu with about eighty different variations of eggs benedict, and a bunch of other stuff I never bother looking at because they have like eighty different variations of eggs benedict. The only thing that some folks might consider missing is booze. If you want a bloody mary or mimosa with your breakfast, you may have to go stand in line at Julians. If you just want some damned good breakfast food, Spoonem's is well worth checking out.

This is the best breakfast I have had since moving to RI. All the food is made fresh. I had the West Coast Benedict, which consisted of tomatoes, freshly made hollandaise, avocado and sprouts, and my husband had the corned beef hash, which was also made from scratch. Bet you've never had pumpkin cream cheese stuffed french toast. Or the best corned beef hash in Rhode Island (make that anywhere); get it well done. This is the best breakfast in RI. I can say that confidently, with no fear that what I am saying is untrue. I have had some breakfast in my time, and this one will exceed your wildest expectations. The most wonderful aspect of this breakfast is the wide selection of benedicts. Wow, there are like 8. Benedicts are my favorite thing and all too often they are omitted from breakfast menus, this is a catastrophe and i have no idea how this happened. What kind of benedicts? My favorites are the portabella, smothered with spinach, hollandaise and some other good shiz. There is also one with spinach and feta and hollandaise over a spinach bagel. I often add avocados to these, always fresh and delicious. There is one with linguica on it, too. Blaaarrggg. There is also this omelette. An omelette that will revolutionize your existence. It is stuffed with cream cheese, capers, scallions, bacon. When i leave RI, i fantasize about JP's. Every breakfast tastes sub-par, i am dejected and sad. As far as I am concerned, this breakfast is my mouth's soul mate. BTW, JP works here. he is an amazing man with salt/pepper grey hair and a handsome, trustable face. His wife is one of two waitresses that works here. The two of them are really nice and friendly, if you come enough, they will remember you always. Other note worthy aspects:best corned-beef hash in RI. Good sweet breakfasts too (stuffed french toast,) but I'm not into that. Cash only. Street Parking. Casual Service, cozy interior.

So Nick's decided to go on vacation for a couple weeks and we decided it was time to branch out. After finding the wait at julians (hadnt been in months) to be ridiculous, I found JP spoonems on yelp and we were off to cranston. I have to say although it wasnt a bad experience, I feel that yelp let me down a bit as it was pretty much so so. It reminded us a lot of the modern diner with nicer wait staff and without the ridiculous wait. We were seated right away and decided to order one thing off the menu (blueberry pancakes) and one thing off the specials menu (loaded hash). The pancakes were of medium thickness and consistency with a good amount of blueberries, but their flavor was a bit on the bland side and they could have used an extra minute or 2 on the griddle to become crispier. The loaded hash was a combo of potatoes, cheese, salsa, and other things I am forgetting. We ordered this because the waitress recommended it, and it was flavorful but still required a good amount of hot sauce. The portion was huge and halfway through I felt like I was in hash overload. The decor was basic diner with very friendly service and reasonable prices. Also, the coffee was good.

I went through twelve years of schooling with the daughter of the owners of this place but, till a year or so ago, had never been to JP Spoonem's (which is saying something, seeing as it's right down the street). My favorite dish is probably their Johnny Cake Platter. Before Spoonem's, I had never tried johnny cakes (for those of you who don't know, they're like pancakes with cornmeal) and these did not disappoint. Their regular pancakes are great, too; nice and fluffy, not heavy like some restaurants make them. For those with more of a sweet tooth, their Stuffed French Toast (French Toast with strawberry cream cheese and whipped cream) is great. I've also been wanting to try their Chocolate Lovers Waffle, but don't want to be on a sugar-high all day. :D For those who want healthier choices, they also offer sides of fresh fruit rather than home fries and greasy sausage and/or bacon. Their omelets also contain a fair amount of healthier food, such as avocadoes and tomatoes. My boyfriend loves their California Omelet. Some people might complain about the restaurant's small size, but I think it's just right. I've only seen it actually get busy on Saturdays or Sundays, so more space is not really needed. JP Spoonem's is a nice, cozy place to have a good breakfast.

This Is my FAVORITE breakfast place! ! ! ! Its small with about eight tables and a counter, you always see people eating that you saw last week...I love it. My absolute favorite breakfast place in RI. It's small and quaint. The food is great, the prices are affordable, and the staff is friendly. It reminds me of Cheers...but for breakfast :) If you have kids, they do have highchairs/boosters and crayons. In the summer you can sit outdoors along the sidewalk. The only downside is that they do not accept credit cards so come with your cash.

Hubby and I came here for brunch on a rainy Monday late morning. The place was semi-full. It has a very old quaint feel. I love that. The staff upon entering, was so welcoming and pleasant. Throughout our meal they repeatedly checked on us. Food came out in a timely manner. Hubby had the Portuguese sweet bread french toast. Ok that was the best French toast we have ever had!!!!! I had the waffle and it was awesome! I'm picky with waffles, which is why I don't order it out most of the time but I was feeling like a waffle today and decided to give it a try. Not disappointed, it was thick but very delicious. I mean like almost the best I've ever had. Can't say the best because that would be very conclusive. But it's up there. But why was I able to say the French toast was the best ever? Because frankly, it was! Scrambled eggs were scrambled just right. Potatoes we really good. All in all this was a great experience. Eat here. If you're reading this is probably because you're deciding if you should try this place and the answer is YES. YES YOU SHOULD. We came because of the excellent Yelp reviews and this place is as awesome as people say! The building is honestly quite ugly and the inside is definitely dated, like its never been updated..but its so cool. The staff were all incredibly friendly and nice and very attentive. Service was very fast, unlike most other reviews (we went around 1245 on a Sunday). The waffle was so golden and delicious! It might have been the best waffle I've ever had! The pancakes were fluffy and nearly melted in your mouth! We also had the home fries that were cooked to perfection and the corn beef hash (I did not have any but my boyfriend raved about them even after we left). I'm really glad we stumbled upon this place! If ever in the area again we will be back!!

Went here yesterday for breakfast. I got the caramel apple french toast, and my wife got the hash and eggs breakfast. The french toast was pretty incredible. The waitress brought syrup and butter for the french toast, but it was so good that I didn't even consider adding anything to it. The apples on the french toast were tossed in some cinnamon and sugar, and there was a light drizzle of caramel and chocolate sauce. I was concerned when ordering that it might be overpowering, but it wasn't. There was a light sprinkling of oats, which gave it just the right amount of texture. It was pretty much perfect. I took a look at my wife's corned beef hash, and at first glance, it looked like that cat food looking hash you see at some places. I quickly realized that, first of all, I was very wrong. Secondly, it was made with gratuitous chunks of real corned beef. This was definitely the best hash I've ever had. Also, when she ordered her breakfast, they asked if she wanted onions cooked in with her home fries. That was a nice touch. Overall, this place was amazing. To make things even better, everything was very reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning.

I had the classic eggs Benedict and my wife had the portobello Benny. We had two of our children (under 12) order off the kids' breakfast menu. They had waffles and said they were so happy they ordered them. A true gem -- we couldn't be happier with the food and service. It was a nice day so we sat outside with our pooch in tow. The interior is super cute too. All in all, it's a great place to start your day. Bonus: They also gave us some great tips for visiting the zoo at Roger Williams park, which is only a few minutes away by car. Tip: They are cash only, but there's an ATM inside.

I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed JP Spoonem's yet, since it's just around the corner from where I live. The restaurant is a no-frills kind of place that seems outdated, but the breakfast here is solid. The portions are generous - you never leave hungry. Among your typical diner menu fare, they have a pretty good corned beef hash, numerous variations on the eggs benedict, somewhat standard homefries, and johnny cakes. I remember not being too impressed with the johnny cakes, but can't recall why. It was probably a textural thing. Also, they serve fresh fruit as a side with your homefries and I love fresh fruit with breakfast almost as much as I love waffles. The food comes out relatively fast, but it's that whole waiting-around-for-your-check thing where the service slows down.

Great Breakfast with Issues Let start by saying the food that i had here was top quality. I ordered an omelet with a side of corned beef hash. It maybe the best CBH I have ever eaten. Fresh and full of corned beef, no canned hash here. I went on the weekend and the place is usually packed and for good reason. The decor is like an old 70's breakfast joint which I really appreciate. I would have given this place a rare 5 star rating but 2 issues make me hold back. One, our breakfast took 45 minutes to be served and this isn't the kind of place where you admire the decor and entertain yourself. Your kind of sitting there twiddling your thumbs. Two, this place isn't cheap. 3 people had breakfast and a coffee and the bill was 55 dollars with tip. Maybe I am cheap but 20 dollars per person for breakfast seems a bit high. If your looking for a top quality breakfast and love corned beef hash this is the place to try. The only though, bring a full wallet and have at least 1-1.5 hours to eat breakfast. Thanks

I love this place, and it gets 5 stars despite the cash or check only policy. The breakfast is amazing, fresh, homemade, and consistent. Nothing fancy, just down-home family cooking, but the variety and specials are always changing. The French toast and pancakes and fluffy with a crisp outer edge, the toppings are generous, and portions equally generous. The savory items are equally awesome - the hash is incredible, the home fires too, and the omelettes are monsters. The Mexican omelette is a must try, and the south side Benedict too. The wait staff is sweet and friendly and their comes out fast. The prices are reasonable. The space is small and on weekends there's a wait, but it's totally worth it. There's a counter and a grouping of 2-4 top tables. There's an ATM if you forget cash and a bathroom. I can't think of anything else to say. If you're looking for a gourmet, hipster, foodie experience - go somewhere else. But if you want basic breakfast with a wide variety of ingredients cooked well, flavorful, filling, stick to your ribs meal - this is the spot.

They are very good about gluten allergy and even have gluten free pancakes! The Johnny Cakes are gluten free too! Well in all fairness it doesn't say gluten free but I have asked and I have had them with no trouble. Keep in mind there is the risk of cross contamination. ONCE they made a mistake and put toast on my plate were quick to remake my order. The waitresses really make this place a friendly and warm environment. I'm so glad its within walking distance.

The benediction of Benedict is upon those that eat at J P Spoonem's. Seriously, they've got a page full of choices when it comes to the holy grail of breakfast and brunch treats. The most intriguing one to me this morning was the Cajun Benedict -- winning. The hollandaise sauce was really tasty, the spice complimented the chourizo perfectly. It was served on an everything bagel -- cool concept, but only half the bagel was toasted. Not cool. It shouldn't be doughy, it distracts from the majesty of the Benedict. The portions are substantial, I was comfortably full by the end. Home fries could use a little spice, and at the very least, some salt. A very anachronistic, blue-collar, middle-way type place. I enjoyed it. The waitress, and co-owner, is one of the most persistently pleasant people (alliteration!!!) I've ever met. She was an absolute delight. -1 star for inadequately/inconsistently toasted bagel and lack of accepting debit/credit cards. C'mon, y'all, this is 2014.

I typically don't eat at diners, this is a 4 star among all diners for sure. I had the Pesto Benny which was a special. The basil was home grown and the pesto was one of the tastiest I've had! Coming from a Rhode Islander with Italian restaurants more than abundant, that's pretty big! It was basil heavy and garlicky. They added fresh mozzarella and some tomatoes. My only complaint is the proportion of Italian toast to egg and pesto was light so I ended up with a mushy mess at the end. But, it was a tasty mushy mess!!

JP Spoonem's was the first place I'd ever had breakfast in Rhode Island (and the first place I'd ever tasted coffee milk!), and I was won over by the atmosphere, the food, and the people. Unlike on "The Hill," I've never waited an hour, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are great. The award-winning corned beef hash and the Portuguese Sweet Bread French Toast are two of my favorites. During my most recent visit, my two friends and I shared four entrees (because we couldn't decide on just three) and like gluttonous beasts we cleaned every plate. Even though we were full, we couldn't let even one potato go to waste--it was THAT good. Moreover, my friends were on a time crunch, and at 12:30pm on a Saturday, we walked right in and were immediately seated. So, JP Spoonem's comes with my highest recommendation.

There is nothing really fancy about this place so if you need a latte with your breakfast this is most likely not the place for you. My companion and I have very different ideas of what makes a great breakfast food - and JP Spoonems had a menu that made each of us sit up and pay attention. We had a hard time making a choice there was such so much for each of us to choose from including a whole page of Benedicts and a whole page of my favorites - sweet stuff! We knew immediately that this was our kind of breakfast joint. My companion picked a Benedict with slices of avocado and tomatoes. She raved about it. I sampled her home fries and they were terrific with crispy edges and soft insides. I went with a special of the day: French toast with a caramel drizzle (not much caramel flavor though), sliced apples and chopped walnuts. It was a generous size and delicious. I wish it had been hotter though. We both agreed that the corned beef hash is the best we've ever had (and we go out for breakfast very regularly all over Providence and northern RI). This isn't a big place - maybe 10 tables and a counter - and it's not fancy but it has a menu that rivals many of the other more upscale restaurants in Providence. We'll definitely be back.

After seeing all the amazing reviews I finally made it to this place. My boyfriend had the classic Benedict that he said was perfect and could even taste the lemon in the hollandaise. It came with some fresh pineapple too, yum. I had the " bullseye" which is Texas toast French toast style with an egg in the center. This was amazing. Egg in the center was cooked perfectly. We also shared the hash that everyone raves about. And yes, it is as good as everyone says. Yum. Best breakfast in a while. This will now be our go-to for sure.

I had breakfast today at this restaurant and can attest to the superiority. Of course, I look for fresh vegetables, which in this case came with poached eggs. The only thing that could make this place better worth its priciness is in using organic or local farm eggs and local RI farmed ingredients. Although the environment is pretty shabby... Cutlery old and barely clean looking, the food combinations do not disappoint. It is cash only, so that is another negative, but unique product offerings. The Johnny Cakes were heavy, dense and sickly sweet. Not a fan of sweet johnny cakes. The hash was good, made from corned beef, but not "the best I've ever had". I think they needed to boil it some more to reduce the saltiness. I didn't experience the flavor it was overwhelming salt. If its your first time, don't go crazy and order sides... Start with one dish and go back for more. I think they excel in their poached egg combinations and I can not wait to go back for lunch to try their ruben.

I have been going to this place for as long as it has been open. I love the ambiance and the food is perfect. But someone needs to tell the blonde waitress to shut up about herself and her social opinions. THIS time she is outraged by the "animals" rioting in Baltimore. Going on about it to a table full of customers who didn't seem particularly interested in her narrow-minded point of view. I glared at her, and she shut up about it. I'd have given this place four stars, otherwise, as my own server was quite nice.

I love this place! Every time I come to visit my family we usually try to fit in breakfast out - Spoonems is one of our favorite spots. The menu is impressive, tons of variety for breakfast & brunch addicts. The French toasts, eggs Benedicts, all of it- delicious! Fresh ingredients, fun variations and good service. JP's is the best neighborhood spot around. Great breakfast menu but lunch is good too. It's small and you often have to wait for a table but it is well worth it. Food is always delicious and fresh. If you want johnnycakes, this is the place to go!

Gigantic portions of classic American breakfast food complete with some of the sweetest service in town. I live a stones throw away from this place and have never been unhappy with anything I've ordered. Eggs are cooked perfectly, which in my opinion is the hallmark of a good breakfast joint. If these portions are a little to large for you, the super sweet waitress will let you order half portions. There can be a wait Sunday mornings after church and Saturday AM, but as a 20 something I usually find myself here mid afternoon and haven't faced much of a wait. Cash only, although there is a =bank up the road if you forget.

There is no better way to start off a weekend than by having a great breakfast! JP Spoonem's is adorable, small, and has a great group of waitresses who have been there for years. There is plenty of counter space if you don't want to wait for a table. By sitting here, you are sure to always have a hot cup of coffee. There is an incredible amount of options for brunch, and also daily specials. My favorite item on the menu has been their raisin portuguese sweet bread french toast with brown sugar and bananas. It is a sweet explosion! The staff are incredibly friendly, and are always willing to make adjustments to their menu to suit your tastes or dietary needs. My water glass was constantly refilled, even on our recent trip on a busy Sunday morning. My hubby wasn't as pleased as I was with our meal, he said that his belgium waffle tasted a bit off. He did seem to like his eggs, bacon, and fruit cup. There is very little waiting room, so if you come right after church or during a rush time, you will most likely need to wait outside. The venue is very low-key, so there is no need to dress up. Expect a lot of regulars, families with bouncing children, and a delicious breakfast!

Went here yesterday for breakfast. I got the caramel apple french toast, and my wife got the hash and eggs breakfast. The french toast was pretty incredible. The waitress brought syrup and butter for the french toast, but it was so good that I didn't even consider adding anything to it. The apples on the french toast were tossed in some cinnamon and sugar, and there was a light drizzle of caramel and chocolate sauce. I was concerned when ordering that it might be overpowering, but it wasn't. There was a light sprinkling of oats, which gave it just the right amount of texture. It was pretty much perfect. I took a look at my wife's corned beef hash, and at first glance, it looked like that cat food looking hash you see at some places. I quickly realized that, first of all, I was very wrong. Secondly, it was made with gratuitous chunks of real corned beef. This was definitely the best hash I've ever had. Also, when she ordered her breakfast, they asked if she wanted onions cooked in with her home fries. That was a nice touch. Overall, this place was amazing. To make things even better, everything was very reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning.

For two breakfast snobs, we were surprisingly delighted with this place. Waiting situation was a little unorganized, there is no wait list, guest just have to figure it out for themselves, but we only ended up waiting for about 10-15 minutes. You want breakfast? You want to go here and you want to go now. Exceptional food and super friendly ownership and staff. Some of the best poached eggs I've had in my life. I had the classic eggs Benedict and my wife had the portobello Benny. We had two of our children (under 12) order off the kids' breakfast menu. They had waffles and said they were so happy they ordered them. A true gem -- we couldn't be happier with the food and service. It was a nice day so we sat outside with our pooch in tow. The interior is super cute too. All in all, it's a great place to start your day. Bonus: They also gave us some great tips for visiting the zoo at Roger Williams park, which is only a few minutes away by car. Tip: They are cash only, but there's an ATM inside.

I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed JP Spoonem's yet, since it's just around the corner from where I live. The restaurant is a no-frills kind of place that seems outdated, but the breakfast here is solid. The portions are generous - you never leave hungry. Among your typical diner menu fare, they have a pretty good corned beef hash, numerous variations on the eggs benedict, somewhat standard homefries, and johnny cakes. I remember not being too impressed with the johnny cakes, but can't recall why. It was probably a textural thing. Also, they serve fresh fruit as a side with your homefries and I love fresh fruit with breakfast almost as much as I love waffles. The food comes out relatively fast, but it's that whole waiting-around-for-your-check thing where the service slows down.

Great Breakfast with Issues Let start by saying the food that i had here was top quality. I ordered an omelet with a side of corned beef hash. It maybe the best CBH I have ever eaten. Fresh and full of corned beef, no canned hash here. I went on the weekend and the place is usually packed and for good reason. The decor is like an old 70's breakfast joint which I really appreciate. I would have given this place a rare 5 star rating but 2 issues make me hold back. One, our breakfast took 45 minutes to be served and this isn't the kind of place where you admire the decor and entertain yourself. Your kind of sitting there twiddling your thumbs. Two, this place isn't cheap. 3 people had breakfast and a coffee and the bill was 55 dollars with tip. Maybe I am cheap but 20 dollars per person for breakfast seems a bit high. If your looking for a top quality breakfast and love corned beef hash this is the place to try. The only though, bring a full wallet and have at least 1-1.5 hours to eat breakfast. Thanks

I love this place, and it gets 5 stars despite the cash or check only policy. The breakfast is amazing, fresh, homemade, and consistent. Nothing fancy, just down-home family cooking, but the variety and specials are always changing. The French toast and pancakes and fluffy with a crisp outer edge, the toppings are generous, and portions equally generous. The savory items are equally awesome - the hash is incredible, the home fires too, and the omelettes are monsters. The Mexican omelette is a must try, and the south side Benedict too. The wait staff is sweet and friendly and their comes out fast. The prices are reasonable. The space is small and on weekends there's a wait, but it's totally worth it. There's a counter and a grouping of 2-4 top tables. There's an ATM if you forget cash and a bathroom. I can't think of anything else to say. If you're looking for a gourmet, hipster, foodie experience - go somewhere else. But if you want basic breakfast with a wide variety of ingredients cooked well, flavorful, filling, stick to your ribs meal - this is the spot.

At first this wasn't my favorite place but since moving to the neighborhood this has become my go to spot. Customer really do become family! I love that I can go some where familiar. They are very good about gluten allergy and even have gluten free pancakes! The Johnny Cakes are gluten free too! Well in all fairness it doesn't say gluten free but I have asked and I have had them with no trouble. Keep in mind there is the risk of cross contamination. ONCE they made a mistake and put toast on my plate were quick to remake my order. The waitresses really make this place a friendly and warm environment. I'm so glad its within walking distance.

The benediction of Benedict is upon those that eat at J P Spoonem's. Seriously, they've got a page full of choices when it comes to the holy grail of breakfast and brunch treats. The most intriguing one to me this morning was the Cajun Benedict -- winning. The hollandaise sauce was really tasty, the spice complimented the chourizo perfectly. It was served on an everything bagel -- cool concept, but only half the bagel was toasted. Not cool. It shouldn't be doughy, it distracts from the majesty of the Benedict. The portions are substantial, I was comfortably full by the end. Home fries could use a little spice, and at the very least, some salt. A very anachronistic, blue-collar, middle-way type place. I enjoyed it. The waitress, and co-owner, is one of the most persistently pleasant people (alliteration!!!) I've ever met. She was an absolute delight. -1 star for inadequately/inconsistently toasted bagel and lack of accepting debit/credit cards. C'mon, y'all, this is 2014.

My first visit to JP Spoonem's left me charmed, impressed and totally full-up - this place should be called JP Spoons 'Em Heafty Portions, because there is no way I could ever finish the amazing amount of food they serve on each plate. And let me assure you, I can heat. A lot. This diner-esque breakfast joint is like stepping into a time warp - I don't think it's been updated since they opened in the 70's. Low coffee counter, a few two-tops here and there and nothing fancy at all... Except the food. The menu is enormous, and you can literally get anything you ever dreamed of. There's a whole page dedicated to various creative Egg's Benedict combos, so naturally I focused in here. I decided to go with the Cajun Benedict, which features chourizo, pepperonchinis and a spicy Hollandaise with perfectly-poached eggs over an everything bagel. It was divine, and although I could only make my way through half of it, I was pleasantly full and high from the out-of-this-world flavor. My companion and I also split a pumpkin pancake, which they serve year-round and you should not miss. It was light, yet had a crispiness to it which made it even more scrumptious. The spices and pumpkin flavor really balanced out the sweetness, which was not overpowering in the least. It was lovely, and I can imagine these with a side of bacon or sausage being the perfect combo. At the end of our meal, the total came to $25, which is pretty outstanding - you can expect to spend twice that at most brunch joints in the PVD. The service was friendly, fast and personable and I have to say - I'm quite the fan of JP Spoonem's. Just remember that it's cash only and the ambiance is straight-up diner.

I've heard some great reviews about this restraunt, and I am happy I did read them. I would have never even blinked an eye passing by it on the corner. I asked mty husband if we could try it for mothers day. It throws you off at first because the area is nothing to be desired, and the shop has not been updated since they built it in the 1940's. JP's is seat yourself, and there is not much room to choose from, but the waitress was very sweet and offered us a coner table. I ordered one of the daily specials, I dont remember the name but in short it was french toast with walnuts and a caramel syrup delectible drizzle. Every bite was delicious, the cooks did a great job. The entire bill, a cup of coffee, my french toast, my husbands eggs bacon sauage homefries, a glass of milk or two: all came to 19.18 Not bad at all.

I'm sure that there are better places to eat breakfast in Rhody. In fact, I'm sure that I've reviewed them since Hubs and I do love our breakfast. That said, the experience of J P Spoonem's is enough to overlook the 'normalcy' of their breakfasts. Sitting at the coffee bar with our infant daughter, we were immediately immersed in the hub of chatter going around the restaurant. The waitress clearly knew most of the folks there, and quite honestly I wanted to be one of the people that she knew as well. I ordered a pretty normal breakfast -eggs, toast, maybe sausage. I think the hubs had something more substantial (omelett or whatnot). Either way, we left feeling good about our meals and even better about the ambiance!

I found love at J.P. Spoonem's. Homemade salsa, ridiculously adventurous specials, awesomely retro u-shaped counter, plenty-o street parking, ginormous but approachable menu, generous portions, I could go on and on and on! I was torn between a special, the loaded home fries (think breakfast nachos with home fries as the base instead of tortilla chips), and an original creation with a name I forget (think eggs benedict meets an alfredo-based pasta dish). I went with the loaded home fries and was not disappointed. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Why not 5 stars? Could have been a little cleaner and a lot friendlier (we were waiting for 15 minutes without any form of acknowledgment, timeline update). Coffee was crap. And it was lacking on the special details like fresh squeezed orange juice. But I will be back. Again and again. To begin eating my way through the epic menu!

After living in Rhode Island for 3 years I finally made it t J P Spoonem's. When you walk in, it looks like a little old diner and smells like my grandmother's basement. (Although I actually like the smell of old and musty, not sure why but I do) The waitress warmly greeted me and told me I could sit where ever I would like. I sat in a nice little table by the window. I ordered corned beef hash, 2 over easy eggs, and rye toast oh and a hot chocolate. For some reason hot chocolate always tastes better at a diner even though they are using the same mix I have at home. The food came out pretty fast. The corned beef hash had big chunks of corned beef which I love! It could have been a little bit crispery but it still tasted delicious. The home fries were crispy and flavorful. Big portions and very cheap. My meal was under ten dollars. I would definitely come back!

I went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago for a friend's birthday breakfast and I loved it the minute I walked it. It felt like I was over at a friend's house, the staff were welcoming and have a great sense of humor! I had an omelette with fresh mozarella and tomatoes and it was like eating a delicious Caprese salad. I'm not a big fan of potatoes in the morning, but I definitely devoured theirs. I liked this place so much I went back for the second time and took some new friends, everyone loved it. This time I had eggs in a tortilla wrap with jalapenos, tomatoes and cheese....Delicious. I've only been here twice, but so far so yummy! Last time I got their hash and eggs and it was seriously delicious. Best hash I've ever had out. I'm a pancake snob and their pancakes were pretty good. Nothing I'd necessarily recommend but if you're having a pancake craving, they'll do the trick. My sunnyside up eggs were perfectly runny and their HAM! WOOOO! I love ham and this is legit. Glad this spot is right up the road from me. Also, the service is so welcoming and friendly. This review is based on the past visit only. I never had a problem and always liked this place. However, my boyfriend brought me food home from here, just now; and I was grossed out to find a squashed dead fruit fly on the top of the styrofoam container. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, I open it; but only to find a bunch more dead fruit flies on the inside of the container. I was absolutely disgusted. It all just went in the trash. What a disgusting waste! Who wants bugs in their food!!! I've lived here over 20 years, and would go here since I was a kid; but after this terrible experience, I honestly don't think I will ever go back.

OMG. I dream of the florentine eggs. (I don't do over-easy, but they will substitute egg whites if you want)... these are so tasty, I wish I had the ability to eat there every morning. Nice to have fruit as a side too. The ladies that wait the tables are super nice and accomodating, I really love this place and will be a regular as long as I live in the 'hood. Just be warned: there's a reason this place has a wait on the weekends - they're not pretentious and will fill your coffee as long as you sit there ;) Update: I've been out of the area for 3 years now and genuinely miss Spoonems. My favorite breakfast place in RI, wish I still lived in the area. The owner's (Pat and Joe) are so friendly and really get to know their regulars. The homemade corned beef hash was my go to fave, made in an omelet. Sometimes the potatoes can be undercooked, so I would always ask for them "extra crispy. They always have mouth watering specials too (stuffed french toast/pumpkin pancakes etc...) It gets very busy on the wknds (usually a line), so get their early, but also worth the wait!

I am lucky enough to live close by to this fine establishment. To say J P Spoonem is a deal would be understatement. This place has two things going for it. Charm and reasonable prices. Its very much a mom and pop family own business. You will always find the same two waitresses out front and same two cooks in the back, and there is something very reassuring about that. Everyone is always friendly and if you become a regular, knows you by name. Did I mention its a deal. Like I said, I am lucky enough to live next to them and I can be in and out in the morning with full great breakfest and bottomless coffee for about 8 bucks with tip. All in about 20 minutes If don't have the time to stick around before work. They always have great specials and always at reasonable prices. All and all, its great diner food if that is the way you like to start a Sunday morning. Another big plus I like to mention is nice patio seating during the warmer months. Its Broad street and not edgewood, but still a nice area way to start the day in the sun. Now it is a bit small with a limited staff and during the busier times this can lead to a longer wait. Fortunately other then mid morning on the weekend, you don't run into that too often. All and all, friendly staff, cheap but GOOD eats, but a bit small, but depending on who you are, might be your type of place.

Yes, finally another breakfast joint that I can see myself returning to over and over. I know, Rhode Island has a lot of great diners; but it also has a lot of mediocre and bad diners. Even a few of the 'great' ones are not ones that you would see yourself frequenting on a regular basis. So what makes this one special? Well, it ticked all of the boxes. First, the staff is simply amazing. They chatted up the regulars, but they spent plenty of time with the first timers. They remembered our daughters name and the name of the stuffed animal she was dragging along. Upon departure, they made sure to wish us farewell and a quick return. Oddly, it actually sounded genuine. The place itself is very cool inside. It has a horseshoe counter and then the seating along the window and interior. It is not huge inside, but did not feel crowded either. The tables and chairs were sturdy, but kind of 50's ish style. It was also well lit inside. Next, they were very helpful when it can to the menu. They helped us narrow down the selection and provided their input. Not in the typical, 'well it depends', or 'it is all good' but more of an open dialog. So to the important part, the food. So I will start off with the Hash. This is what I use as a gage when eating breakfast at other diners. It is fresh and made on site. I could make a couple of tweaks. I would have liked it grilled a bit longer and a little less potato. But, I am going to admit that this stuff as is gives Modern Diner a run for the money. I might be persuaded to think if it did grill it a bit longer and put in less potatoes, it might be too close to Modern. So, as it was, it was really fantastic. This came with two eggs, toast and home fries. So the toast was great, and yes, I have seen that screwed up. The eggs were perfect. Cooked all the way but still moist. The home fries I think were more like potato chunks. I think the cut was a bit big, but they were cooked very well and were seasoned nicely. Not the best, but a good A- or B+ The wife had an order off their special menu, Cranberry Apple Walnut Pancakes. My daughter had a single pancake. I sampled the daughters pancake and it was great. It was cooked perfect and I do not think the mix came out of a box. It was a pancake that would make you feel like grandma just came out of the kitchen. My wife's were this huge heaping mound of pancakes with the Cranberries and fresh cut Apples cooked in, and candied Walnuts generously piles on. I did manage to get a small bite. I did have to wait until close to the end though. This was one of those very few times when you look over at the woman you love, who you have promised to share your life with and truly fear what will happen if you even consider moving a fork towards her plate. So I waited patiently. The patience was rewarded. I am not a total froufrou pancake eater. I like the odd blueberry pancake. So I would have never order myself, but they were really, really good. So bottom line, this is the first diner that my wife and I both looked at each other and said, "Next week?" and both nodded yes. This truly may be a 5 star place, but I need to wait until next week to see if they are consistant.

We always came here for the breakfast, and enjoyed the homemade corned beef hash and several of the different egg benedict meals. We have tried the corned beef hash at many places in New England, and Spoonem's is by FAR the BEST! It is cash only, so make sure you have some on hand before you visit.

So I stumbled upon this place back in January 2012 while visiting family. I had the Johnnycakes and they were awesome! Crunchy on the edges and softer towards the center - I drenched them in butter and syrup and felt like I was in heaven:). I returned for another visit Labor Day weekend and was fortunate enough to find them on yelp - couldn't remember the name but figured it out with someone's review and description of the u shaped counter. Anyway I took my father, a Rhode Island native, and my sister-in-law who recently purchased a home in Cranston. I enjoyed the Johnnycakes again, my dad enjoyed the waffle with strawberries and whip cream ( he asked for extra whip cream twice and the waitress was very generous - I think he really wanted some whip cream with a little waffle), and my sister-in-law enjoyed her oatmeal - she had to go healthy on us! The service, portions and taste were all wonderful. I definitely recommend this place.

The Johnny Cakes here were disgusting. So so gross. Ours tasted like badly cooked polenta served with fake maple syrup. They were mushy and flavorless and I would not feed them to my worst enemy. To top it all off, they use yellow cornmeal instead of white. We barely touched ours, and noticed that the people sitting next to us also pushed theirs to the side. J P Spoonem's gives you more Johnny Cakes for less money than they do at Liberty Elm Diner, but there is no comparison in terms of quality. Go to Liberty Elm instead (about a mile away) or head over to Commons Lunch in Little Compton for the real deal.

Like stepping into your aunt's kitchen that hasn't been updated since the 60's, you are greeted with family like cheer. Portions are substantial and assuredly piled high with eggs and homefries. Good flavor. Cheap. And multiple options that come with both sweet and savory. The johnny cakes are made sweet and fried in oil. Top with butter and you have a nice little yummy. Nothing to write home about, but a good option if you're gluten free. Sadly they don't have pure maple syrup as an option.

I love this place. It is the perfect dinner that will really make you feel like you're eating at your grandmothers house. The food is excellent and fast. Just had brunch here on Friday before the storm. They stayed open long enough to squeeze us in. We were seated promptly near the window by the friendly couple. The ambiance is similar to a ma and pa diner, very friendly and casual. Upon first glance at the menu I found tons of styles of brunch entrees like eggs benedict and florentine, and many omelets (my friend ordered the mozzarella omelet with egg whites). I opted for the California benedict (figures) and enjoyed avocado smothered all over my english muffins. The homefries are cooked perfectly and you can even order them crispy. The dish was complete with a side of fruit (cantaloupe). We also decided to share an order of their pumpkin pancake. This was definitely worth the splurge! Yum! Definitely a great place to have a casual meal. I will definitely return again.

Came here Sunday around 11:30/12. This was my first time coming here and I had always heard great things about it. The place looks like a diner, a clean one at that, with plenty of tables and a round bar like table in the middle with stools. My boyfriend and I snagged a table by the window and our waitress came over right away with menus. She was super friendly! After looking over the menu, which was SO hard because there were so many choices that looked delicous, I ended up ordering the Eggs Florentine. This consisted of two poached eggs layed over a spinach bagel with this delicious cheese sauce smothered on top. The sides were hash browns and fresh fruit. My boyfriend ordered the texas french toast which came with bacon and sausage. Our dishes came out in a timely manner and all i can say is WOW. I could not get enough. Everything was so fresh and delicious. That cheese sauce though... so good. I've been craving this meal ever since and I might have to make another trip this week. Love JP Spoonem's! Great customer service, super cheap and DELICIOUS!

The menu is quite extensive with several eggs benny options, my favorite! The service was probably the slowest I've experienced at a breakfast place. Stopped in for breakfast and was not disappointed. As I sat at the counter with my wife we were immediately greeted by a friendly server who answered our questions about the extensive menu options courteously and enthusiastically. I had the spinach and cheese omelet and my wife had 2 eggs and their house made corned beef hash. Both were excellent. Large portions and presented with class such as small wedges of grapefruit on the side of each dish and small triangles of cheese on top of the omelet. The homefries were exceptional also as was their coffee. I highly recommend this place.

Awesome, I will definitely be returning. For a little hole in the wall place, the menu choices were numerous and super creative. My pumpkin pancakes were awesome, and my three other dining companions all enjoyed their lunch entrees. There were at least three or four other dishes that I was dying to try (including the BBQ chicken grilled wrap, one of my friends got a grilled wrap and it was HUGE and delish-looking) so I'll have to come back and branch out a bit. They had four or five specials that sounded great, including home fries with sour cream, bacon bits, pepperoncini, and scallions, with two eggs on top, a French toast with caramel and chocolatee, and a Greek eggs Benny. The service was very friendly, the waitress clearly knew some of the 'regulars' in there but was still very attentive to us. It's a small place so I'm sure on weekend mornings it gets really full, but that won't dissuade me from returning!

Only negative I can find with the place is the semi sketchy neighborhood, but other than that it is all good. It's got your typical diner/breakfast joint feel.. a little outdated and a little run down looking, but man does it come through with the food. They do a great job with the basics, had straight up hash and eggs... good flavor on the in house made hash and tasty home fries... eggs cooked us the way I asked for em. I had high hopes for the place after my father, who had been to JP Spoonem's once before, insisted we stop on our drive home to Philadelphia from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The man knows good food, and hey, the other Yelp reviews were shimmering with fairy brunch dust. I couldn't wait for this pitstop on our trip. We rushed in with only 25 minutes to spare- we were trying to catch a ferry from CT to NY- and Joe and Pat (J&P, respectively!) ensured that our meals would be ready in time. And they were. Pat was perfectly friendly, super chatty, and the atmosphere screamed "hometown diner," only it was so tiny it felt like we were on a movie set. If it wasn't for the service, I would be giving JP Spoonem's just two stars. The meals were to-go. We ate them in the car, which may have contributed to our lackluster sandwiches. I had a turkey bacon/egg/cheese on a roll, which was drenched in butter and tasted just fine, but the homefries that came on the side were a sad sight. They looked like boiled yellow potatoes, with zero flavor, zero crunch, zero seasonings at all. Homefries are typically my favorite part of breakfast, and this was a major disappointment. My dad loved his homemade corned beef hash, which he claimed was "the best he's ever had." My one brother enjoyed his mozz/veggie panini, but my other brother was put off by his chicken salad, as was my mother. Don't you know? Never order the chicken salad before you know what you're getting yourself into. Even if the restaurant says they don't use Miracle Whip! My family always stops at the same restaurants on our road trips. We like tradition, familiarity, and tasty food. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be returning to JP Spoonem's- even if we do have the time to sit down and enjoy a leisurely meal.

Great place to find old style breakfast. The Hash is homemade and the best I have had. My wife loved the benedicts and they are very good and have a good selection to choose from. This is a hidden gem, but well worth the visit, just make sure to have Cash on hand for the bill.

So a few mounths ago I went to visit my friend in RI... I was going to spend the night but decided to go home... she warned me I was going to miss the best breakfast of my life! So I went back to visit her last weekend while I slept I dreamed I went home and missed breakfast again... Fortunely I was still in RI in the morning. This was the best breakfast I've ever had. Frozen in the 70's and that is okay with us. Breakfast does not need to be fancy to be good and this was good. I had eggs in the hole, again, out of the 70's, hole in the Texas toast and fry the egg in it. Oh, it came with potatoes, essentially cut up potatoes thrown on the grill and cooked, no seasoning. Also, two small johnny cakes. Very good. Husband got corned beef hash, this is his test, like the previous poster's scrambled eggs. A win for husband, no canned hash here. Staff was as friendly as can be, they were chatty if you wanted to be and left you alone if you wanted to be, as they did with the table of 4 guys finishing up their night. Two people, with tax, $20, cash only. A fair deal for a good sized breakfast that at least also covers lunch. We will be back. Since it is fairly close to the airport, it will be a perfect place to stop after an early morning flight. We will be back any time we are heading down that way at breakfast time.

Went for a late breakfast with my son on Saturday . This was my 4th visit here and it is by far one of the best breakfast places period. Great service , very casual ,at home diner ,type of feel . If I was told that I had to pick my "last" breakfast, I would have to say that I would be telling the warden: "Call Spoonem 's!" They claim on the menu that they make the best hash in RI: they are right. The homefries are perfect and the Italian toast, sublime. The service is great: they are always there when you need the them but they DO NOT rush you. Maybe this is a factor in why I think of this as THE place to have my "last" breakfast. Hands down best breakfast place ever. I spent about 6 years living in New England (RI and MA) and despite all the great restaurants in Providence, I miss J.P Spoonem's. I judge a breakfast place by how well they prepare their scrambled eggs. If you can't scramble eggs, and breakfast is your specialty, then I will question the quality of other food items on the menu. This place makes excellent scrambled eggs, along with other great food items. J.P Spoonem's is a small place family run place, maybe capable of seating 20 to 25 people at once. Come there on a Sat or Sunday morning, expect to wait a bit to be seated. I used to go there about twice a month when I lived in the area. I had the opportunity on a trip back to eat there and I was pleasantly surprised when the owner still remembered me (the last time I was there was 3 or 4 years ago). I ordered my usual...the New Englander which includes Johnny Cakes, home fries, and scrambled eggs. Everything was just like I remembered it....awesome. I've had the pancakes and waffles and they are superb as well. They only take cash for payment, so be prepared.

Spoonem's has become my go-to breakfast spot. Like pretty much any place that serves breakfast on a weekend, there can be a bit of a wait. However, it's nothing compared to the hour-plus wait time of hipster paradises like Nick's or Julians. Spoonem's is a small place that just does breakfast and lunch. They've expended their offerings in the last year or so from just the traditional diner food to a more adventurous menu with about eighty different variations of eggs benedict, and a bunch of other stuff I never bother looking at because they have like eighty different variations of eggs benedict. The only thing that some folks might consider missing is booze. If you want a bloody mary or mimosa with your breakfast, you may have to go stand in line at Julians. If you just want some damned good breakfast food, Spoonem's is well worth checking out.

This is the best breakfast in RI. I can say that confidently, with no fear that what I am saying is untrue. I have had some breakfast in my time, and this one will exceed your wildest expectations. The most wonderful aspect of this breakfast is the wide selection of benedicts. Wow, there are like 8. Benedicts are my favorite thing and all too often they are omitted from breakfast menus, this is a catastrophe and i have no idea how this happened. What kind of benedicts? My favorites are the portabella, smothered with spinach, hollandaise and some other good shiz. There is also one with spinach and feta and hollandaise over a spinach bagel. I often add avocados to these, always fresh and delicious. There is one with linguica on it, too. Blaaarrggg. There is also this omelette. An omelette that will revolutionize your existence. It is stuffed with cream cheese, capers, scallions, bacon. When i leave RI, i fantasize about JP's. Every breakfast tastes sub-par, i am dejected and sad. As far as I am concerned, this breakfast is my mouth's soul mate. BTW, JP works here. he is an amazing man with salt/pepper grey hair and a handsome, trustable face. His wife is one of two waitresses that works here. The two of them are really nice and friendly, if you come enough, they will remember you always. Other note worthy aspects:best corned-beef hash in RI. Good sweet breakfasts too (stuffed french toast,) but I'm not into that. Cash only. Street Parking. Casual Service, cozy interior.

So Nick's decided to go on vacation for a couple weeks and we decided it was time to branch out. After finding the wait at julians (hadnt been in months) to be ridiculous, I found JP spoonems on yelp and we were off to cranston. I have to say although it wasnt a bad experience, I feel that yelp let me down a bit as it was pretty much so so. It reminded us a lot of the modern diner with nicer wait staff and without the ridiculous wait. We were seated right away and decided to order one thing off the menu (blueberry pancakes) and one thing off the specials menu (loaded hash). The pancakes were of medium thickness and consistency with a good amount of blueberries, but their flavor was a bit on the bland side and they could have used an extra minute or 2 on the griddle to become crispier. The loaded hash was a combo of potatoes, cheese, salsa, and other things I am forgetting. We ordered this because the waitress recommended it, and it was flavorful but still required a good amount of hot sauce. The portion was huge and halfway through I felt like I was in hash overload. The decor was basic diner with very friendly service and reasonable prices. Also, the coffee was good.

I went through twelve years of schooling with the daughter of the owners of this place but, till a year or so ago, had never been to JP Spoonem's (which is saying something, seeing as it's right down the street). My favorite dish is probably their Johnny Cake Platter. Before Spoonem's, I had never tried johnny cakes (for those of you who don't know, they're like pancakes with cornmeal) and these did not disappoint. Their regular pancakes are great, too; nice and fluffy, not heavy like some restaurants make them. For those with more of a sweet tooth, their Stuffed French Toast (French Toast with strawberry cream cheese and whipped cream) is great. I've also been wanting to try their Chocolate Lovers Waffle, but don't want to be on a sugar-high all day. :D For those who want healthier choices, they also offer sides of fresh fruit rather than home fries and greasy sausage and/or bacon. Their omelets also contain a fair amount of healthier food, such as avocadoes and tomatoes. My boyfriend loves their California Omelet. Some people might complain about the restaurant's small size, but I think it's just right. I've only seen it actually get busy on Saturdays or Sundays, so more space is not really needed. JP Spoonem's is a nice, cozy place to have a good breakfast.

My absolute favorite breakfast place in RI. It's small and quaint. The food is great, the prices are affordable, and the staff is friendly. It reminds me of Cheers...but for breakfast :) If you have kids, they do have highchairs/boosters and crayons. In the summer you can sit outdoors along the sidewalk. The only downside is that they do not accept credit cards so come with your cash.

I typically don't eat at diners, this is a 4 star among all diners for sure. I had the Pesto Benny which was a special. The basil was home grown and the pesto was one of the tastiest I've had! Coming from a Rhode Islander with Italian restaurants more than abundant, that's pretty big! It was basil heavy and garlicky. They added fresh mozzarella and some tomatoes. My only complaint is the proportion of Italian toast to egg and pesto was light so I ended up with a mushy mess at the end. But, it was a tasty mushy mess!!

JP Spoonem's was the first place I'd ever had breakfast in Rhode Island (and the first place I'd ever tasted coffee milk!), and I was won over by the atmosphere, the food, and the people. Unlike on "The Hill," I've never waited an hour, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are great. The award-winning corned beef hash and the Portuguese Sweet Bread French Toast are two of my favorites. During my most recent visit, my two friends and I shared four entrees (because we couldn't decide on just three) and like gluttonous beasts we cleaned every plate. Even though we were full, we couldn't let even one potato go to waste--it was THAT good. Moreover, my friends were on a time crunch, and at 12:30pm on a Saturday, we walked right in and were immediately seated. So, JP Spoonem's comes with my highest recommendation.

There is nothing really fancy about this place so if you need a latte with your breakfast this is most likely not the place for you. It does fill up fast on weekends so you might wind up waiting a bit but great place to run into people you know. Sometimes the mayor is there as well so you can complain about the state of the roads!

My companion and I have very different ideas of what makes a great breakfast food - and JP Spoonems had a menu that made each of us sit up and pay attention. We had a hard time making a choice there was such so much for each of us to choose from including a whole page of Benedicts and a whole page of my favorites - sweet stuff! We knew immediately that this was our kind of breakfast joint. My companion picked a Benedict with slices of avocado and tomatoes. She raved about it. I sampled her home fries and they were terrific with crispy edges and soft insides. I went with a special of the day: French toast with a caramel drizzle (not much caramel flavor though), sliced apples and chopped walnuts. It was a generous size and delicious. I wish it had been hotter though. We both agreed that the corned beef hash is the best we've ever had (and we go out for breakfast very regularly all over Providence and northern RI). This isn't a big place - maybe 10 tables and a counter - and it's not fancy but it has a menu that rivals many of the other more upscale restaurants in Providence. We'll definitely be back.

After seeing all the amazing reviews I finally made it to this place. My boyfriend had the classic Benedict that he said was perfect and could even taste the lemon in the hollandaise. It came with some fresh pineapple too, yum. I had the " bullseye" which is Texas toast French toast style with an egg in the center. This was amazing. Egg in the center was cooked perfectly. We also shared the hash that everyone raves about. And yes, it is as good as everyone says. Yum. Best breakfast in a while. This will now be our go-to for sure.

Went to the zoo and came here for a quick lunch. Wow! The salmon and corned beef hash were each excellent. But the Johnny Cakes were transcendent.

I had breakfast today at this restaurant and can attest to the superiority. Of course, I look for fresh vegetables, which in this case came with poached eggs. The only thing that could make this place better worth its priciness is in using organic or local farm eggs and local RI farmed ingredients. Although the environment is pretty shabby... Cutlery old and barely clean looking, the food combinations do not disappoint. It is cash only, so that is another negative, but unique product offerings. The Johnny Cakes were heavy, dense and sickly sweet. Not a fan of sweet johnny cakes. The hash was good, made from corned beef, but not "the best I've ever had". I think they needed to boil it some more to reduce the saltiness. I didn't experience the flavor it was overwhelming salt. If its your first time, don't go crazy and order sides... Start with one dish and go back for more. I think they excel in their poached egg combinations and I can not wait to go back for lunch to try their ruben.

I have been going to this place for as long as it has been open. I love the ambiance and the food is perfect. But someone needs to tell the blonde waitress to shut up about herself and her social opinions. THIS time she is outraged by the "animals" rioting in Baltimore. Going on about it to a table full of customers who didn't seem particularly interested in her narrow-minded point of view. I glared at her, and she shut up about it. I'd have given this place four stars, otherwise, as my own server was quite nice.

I absolutely love this place! His menu is diverse and very Cali... I enjoy the mix of flavors... And the use of avocados!! I cannot remember the name of the dish I but it had waffles with bananas whip cream and some type of coconut gel...AMAZING!!! This place is one of my favorites and wonderfully located in Edgewood... A short walk from home.

I love this place! Every time I come to visit my family we usually try to fit in breakfast out - Spoonems is one of our favorite spots. The menu is impressive, tons of variety for breakfast & brunch addicts. The French toasts, eggs Benedicts, all of it- delicious! Fresh ingredients, fun variations and good service. Best part - they do Johnny cakes, not exactly like my grandma's but still yummy, always remind me why I'm a New Englander to the core.

JP's is the best neighborhood spot around. Great breakfast menu but lunch is good too. It's small and you often have to wait for a table but it is well worth it. Food is always delicious and fresh. If you want johnnycakes, this is the place to go!

Great place to have breakfast. They even had New England johnnycakes, if you're into that kind of a thing. I found them to be very interesting. A very mellow crowd average customer service. The coffee was amazing! The pancakes were a little doughy. It had to be that to the time of day that we went to breakfast. Which was 10 AM. I figured they had probably been sitting around since 6 AM. On the pancake side, I've had better.

The service is slow but the food is magnificent !! NO more IHOP! IHOP is disgusting. I gave them a lot of chance to prove their worth, all failed.. Anyhow, I'm so happy to have found this place. I took my mom in law here for her bday and we had a really great day!!! We enjoyed the food sooo much! I was so full and there's no complaints or anything. I'm a picky eater and I only eat and recommend what I think is really good. I recommend this breakfast restaurant. The best in RI so far. Just a suggestion, add even 1 waitress coz people are usually really hungry in the morning so need a faster service.. But overall, this place is fantastic!!! PS, they have the best corned beef hash in RI! Love love love !

Gigantic portions of classic American breakfast food complete with some of the sweetest service in town. I live a stones throw away from this place and have never been unhappy with anything I've ordered. Eggs are cooked perfectly, which in my opinion is the hallmark of a good breakfast joint. If these portions are a little to large for you, the super sweet waitress will let you order half portions. There can be a wait Sunday mornings after church and Saturday AM, but as a 20 something I usually find myself here mid afternoon and haven't faced much of a wait. Cash only, although there is a =bank up the road if you forget.

This place was excellent! Just be aware that they only accept cash or check. They do provide an ATM on site. I went here this weekend for the first time. The food was amazing and the staff was excellent. I got the Eggs Carbonara and my friend got the Salmon Benny. We were both really impressed! We also tried the Johnny Cakes and loved those too. We both left stuffed and we only had a bill of $25. Not bad at all. The place is small and kind of adorable. Again, the staff was wonderful and very attentive. They made you feel like the only people in the place. It's excellent and I will definitely go back!

There is no better way to start off a weekend than by having a great breakfast! JP Spoonem's is adorable, small, and has a great group of waitresses who have been there for years. There is plenty of counter space if you don't want to wait for a table. By sitting here, you are sure to always have a hot cup of coffee. There is an incredible amount of options for brunch, and also daily specials. My favorite item on the menu has been their raisin portuguese sweet bread french toast with brown sugar and bananas. It is a sweet explosion! The staff are incredibly friendly, and are always willing to make adjustments to their menu to suit your tastes or dietary needs. My water glass was constantly refilled, even on our recent trip on a busy Sunday morning. My hubby wasn't as pleased as I was with our meal, he said that his belgium waffle tasted a bit off. He did seem to like his eggs, bacon, and fruit cup. There is very little waiting room, so if you come right after church or during a rush time, you will most likely need to wait outside. The venue is very low-key, so there is no need to dress up. Expect a lot of regulars, families with bouncing children, and a delicious breakfast!

This place was unbelievable. I got a specialty french toast with a hole cut into the middle with an egg. Sides of breakfast potatoes and sausage. My boyfriend got classic eggs benedict and hash. It was all so amazing... we tried hard to clean our plates but you get a lot of food! My food was delicious. New favorite place for breakfast in the Providence area!

*Cash only but there is an onsite ATM. We went Sunday morning for brunch. I ordered the Arizona Benny with a side of the famous corn beef hash. I see why it is famous, YUM! Quick comments: seating is limited with a few tables and a cute area for counter service. Very family oriented and friendly staff. The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully plated. Portion size was perfect. I really have nothing negative to say. We will be back!

Holy crap. Went for brunch on a Saturday at 1pm. We didn't even realize the place closes at 1pm on Saturday, and they were still happy to seat and serve us. The servers were all very pleasant and attentive despite it being past their shift. I got pumpkin stuffed french toast. I wish I took a picture of it. All I can say is, oh my god, best french toast ever. It was plated beautifully, and tasted amazing. Love this place already. I will be back. I can't wait to try more of the menu.

Hubby and I came here for brunch on a rainy Monday late morning. The place was semi-full. It has a very old quaint feel. I love that. The staff upon entering, was so welcoming and pleasant. Throughout our meal they repeatedly checked on us. Food came out in a timely manner. Hubby had the Portuguese sweet bread french toast. Ok that was the best French toast we have ever had!!!!! I had the waffle and it was awesome! I'm picky with waffles, which is why I don't order it out most of the time but I was feeling like a waffle today and decided to give it a try. Not disappointed, it was thick but very delicious. I mean like almost the best I've ever had. Can't say the best because that would be very conclusive. But it's up there. But why was I able to say the French toast was the best ever? Because frankly, it was! Scrambled eggs were scrambled just right. Potatoes we really good. All in all this was a great experience. Zero complaints. They have five solid stars from me.

Eat here. If you're reading this is probably because you're deciding if you should try this place and the answer is YES. YES YOU SHOULD. We came because of the excellent Yelp reviews and this place is as awesome as people say! The building is honestly quite ugly and the inside is definitely dated, like its never been updated..but its so cool. The staff were all incredibly friendly and nice and very attentive. Service was very fast, unlike most other reviews (we went around 1245 on a Sunday). The waffle was so golden and delicious! It might have been the best waffle I've ever had! The pancakes were fluffy and nearly melted in your mouth! We also had the home fries that were cooked to perfection and the corn beef hash (I did not have any but my boyfriend raved about them even after we left). I'm really glad we stumbled upon this place! If ever in the area again we will be back!!
