    I had the best ever salad with grilled salmon and apple vinaigrette. They used very fresh mixed greens and the salmon was a very large piece. Exceptionally delicious in an unexpected pleasant place. I highly recommend trying this tavern out!

    Haven't been here in a few months. Menu has changed since my last visit and I was somewhat disappointed that some items that I once loved we no longer an option. Food was ok.....not great just ok. It was a cool night so they had the windows open in the bar area. It was kinda hot when we walked in but quickly learned they there was a good breeze blowing in the windows. They allow their bar customers to go out front on the porch and smoke and of course take their drink along. The smoke was blowing right in the windows, so they might as well just let them smoke inside. We had to request to move into the dining area which was very dark and stuffy. Not sure if I will be back due to the menu changes and my somewhat of a disappointing visit tonight.

    Samuel Smith Chocolate Organic Stout. That is all I have to say. Had it here today for the first time and it is delicious. "Interesting" place though. If we are ever back in the area I would like to try the food since the reviews are extremely good for that. Service was friendly.

    My wife and I stopped in for dinner on a whim. We both had burgers and they were delicious. Good beer selection, friendly people, and an excellent overall vibe. The bartender, Jess, was super nice and very welcoming. We really enjoyed ourselves and we will be going back! By the way... Yelp has a bad address if you are using a Garmin to find this place... put in 55 E. Church ROAD. If you use Street, you end up 7+ miles away in the wrong town. Even after that wild goose chase, we were happy we went!

    I ate here tonight, the food is great, the value was good. The Penguin looks like a dive bar from the outside but is classy on the inside.

    First time patron. This restaurant is midway for my sister and me to meet for lunch. (She lives in Harrisburg and I'm in Valley Forge.) There were SO many creative burger toppings to choose from. Before we even finished lunch, we made plans to meet here again next month. For the two of us, it only cost $17!

    My family and I have been coming here since the new owners took over several years ago. It is close to where we live, we know several of the staff, and enjoy karaoke on Thursday nights. We also often know other customers there when we go in. So it is a very local and social spot. They originally had a chef who was sub-par. We have gotten nachos with hair in them and burgers that were so burnt that they were inedible. Both times, we notified our waitress and were still charged for the items without an apology or offer to make something else. We were told by employees that worked there (past tense) that employees must pay for mistakes that are made. Sorry, but that doesn't make it acceptable for me to be charged for food that we couldn't eat and then had to go home and make dinner for my son and I. My son got so upset when we would said we were going there for dinner, that he refused to eat. With the new chef, he agrees to go there to eat now, he even suggests it. Often times, you need to wait for your drinks unless you are sitting right at the bar. So if you are planning on getting another drink, ask the waitress while she is there or you will be without for a little. My husband and I were sitting at a table in the bar and he got his draft beer from the waitress. She noted to us that the bartender, who is also the manager, made the wrong drink. We placed our food order and I watched her serve everyone else in the bar, including new customers walking in, before making my drink that she made improperly. Just the other night, we were in the diningroom, and my husband waited 10 minutes for his beer and there were 2 tables in the place and maybe 10 people sitting at the bar. Recently, they have hired a new chef, who does a much better job. His cheesesteaks are amazing and the wings are cooked properly. We like ours crispy, and many places do not bother to cook them a few extra minutes. The chef also re-did the burger menu. It's now a build-your-burger type menu. My burger has always been prepared to proper temperature. We often meet my parents and/or in-laws for dinner on Friday nights. You need to go early in order to get a table, especially for a large party. Most of the food was excellent. I had a Tavern Salad topped with salmon that was great. My mother had a salmon entree that she liked. The old bay popcorn is a wonderful snack for a table to share. Others in our party had Wali (spelling?) that said it smelled bad so they stopped eating. We didn't say anything to the waitress and kept it to ourselves. We went back a couple weeks later, and decided against the Wali. My husband got the fish and chips. He has gotten this several times here before, and he and our son like to share it. He broke the fish apart to allow it to cool and noticed it wasn't fried enough and was undercooked. The place was very full so he didn't want to send it back or bother the waitress. He opted to take the fish home so I could bake it in the oven the next day for lunch. WELL....I opened the fridge first thing in the morning, and the smell of rotten fish hit me like a brick wall. The entire downstairs of my house smelled foul!!! My husband threw it outside in the snow, container and all. Btw, it took a week to get that smell out of my fridge, even after cleaning it out and using baking soda and coffee grounds to absorb the smell. Anyway, I struggled with calling the Penguin to let them know of the situation, and finally decided to make the call so they were aware the fish was bad and didn't serve it to anyone else. I spoke with Monica, the manager, she thanked me for bringing it to her attention and apologized. She was sorry and knew we were good customers. She said a she would leave a gift card for us behind the bar for the next time we go in. We go in a couple weeks later, and I inquire of a gift card...nothing. I was a little upset. Don't offer to do something if you're not going to follow through with it. We went in earlier this week. I met husband and son after work, so he was there before me and ordered for me. My burger was cooked properly and wings were crispy. Monica was our waitress, and she made no comment about a gift card for us. Once again, disappointed. When we got home, my husband told me that she told him, prior to me arriving, that she hates it when people call in to complain about the food after they have left and didn't bring it to her attention while they were there eating. REALLY??? !!!??? How unprofessional. I recall bringing burnt burgers and hair in food to their attention and without any offer to correct the situation. So, I give the Penguin 2 stars because the food is mostly good and I like the staff. However, the manager is a large disappointment and needs training in proper customer service. We will continue going there due to the location, but apprehensively.
