This is the only place in town to get an authentic buttercake -- buttercakes like you used to get at bakerys like Duffy's in Juniata a million years ago. It's creamy center held together with a tasty hug of pastry is perfection. The sticky buns are great too - just like we remember getting. They are crispy and sweet on the outside and perfect for dunking.

I really don't understand why this place gets 5 star ratings. I've tasted the danish and quite a few of the other pastries they serve here and to be perfectly honest, I found it bland, too floury or on some of the fruit pastries, too sticky/congealed. I don't care for buttercake, so I didn't taste their claim to fame, but out of the couple of times I've been there or had someone bring me something, I threw out what we didn't eat of our servings. Service is fine (not open Mondays though), but I'd rather have Entenmann's boxed goods before I go back. Sorry Danish Bakery, you are so close to my house but I'll just be baking my own pastries or hiking elsewhere. Your products just don't impress me at all.

Great place for danish! Some of the "sticky" stuff can be a bit too gooey and sweet, but overall, great pastries.

Best sticky buns. If this was located in Center City, you would have lines out the door.

Best bakery ever.. Their products are always fresh and consistent. love their butter cake. VERY ADDICTING! Also, try their cinnamon buns. They're baked fresh every morning and they melt in your mouth. The trip down to the bakery is worth it. Everything ismade with love and the recipes have been apart of their family for 4 generations. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I moved to Souderton PA and make every attempt I can to visit this bakery whenever in the neighborhood. The best old fashioned Danish, the best sticky buns, rolls and, of course, the butter cake. Thanks for all the hard work and staying in business.

The Best of Philly award for best butter cake was my motivation to make the trip to Rockledge & it was worth the drive! Took me back to the butter cake of my childhood (from a bakery that's long gone). Also tried the cheese danish, the jelly roll & the eclairs - all excellent.

This place unhinged my butter cake bias for the bakery from my childhood. I will need to get one from each next time I feel like having a "Faturday" event to do a final judging. But this sucker goes toe-to-toe with my memories of Mayfair bakery's delicious, gooey, moist, not -too -cakey dessert du-jour for Philadelphians. My friend brought this to my house for a party, and I was in butter cake heaven upon first bite. Just gooey enough, but with a delicate "crusty" top ( you know what I mean, buttercakers), that thinly veils the delicious, creamy, sweet frosting-like concoction beneath. The cake was perfect as well, complementing the texture of said goo from the sugar fairy gods. Thank you for rocking this.

Favorite family run bakery that really knows their stuff. Great breads, butter cake, sugar cookies, jelly rolls, birthday cakes, etc. Excellent service and everything is made fresh on-site. Even make specialty items for various holidays.

BUTTER CAKE REVIEW We were driving by on Saturday and I wondered aloud 'hmm the sign says this bakery won best of Philly butter cake 2010...I wonder what a butter cake is'. My bf almost stopped the car. He enthusiastically went on and on about how delicious it is and how can I not know what butter cake is?!?! I was convinced. We HAD to buy one. We walked in a little after 4pm and they were still putting out freshly baked butter cakes; must be a hot seller. It ain't pretty but omg it's delicious...it's almost like a cheese danish minus the cheese and even better tasting, if that makes sense (probably doesn't). Over the course of 24 hours we devoured the whole thing ourselves. Trust me, you want some butter cake.

I dream of the Danish Bakers, it's that good. My grandmother used to take me there 25-30 years ago and it still looks and feels the same. (it's delightfully old school -- they don't take credit cards and they write up your receipt by hand) The danishes come in a dozen or so flavors and have the perfect combination of buttery pastry, fruity filling and sweet-but-not-too-sweet icing. And don't miss the trays of cinnamon buns (any variety). For a true sugar rush, try the petit fours. Just don't go in August, since they're on vacation and closed most of the month.

What is all the excitement about? Sticky bun mini's were hard. Had to microwave the bun just the bite it. Same for the rest of the puff pastry. Stale. Shame, too. The flavors are good. Not worth the price at roughly $2 a pop. The little girl that waited on us even seemed put off to serving customers. No wonder places go out business. You must have to go here on certain days only to get anything worth eating. Not worth trying, again.

Eat all of the things here, you all. Another great local business that has been around for awhile (because they make amazing pastries). Obviously, get some danish. Try all the flavors because they are all darn delicious. These make a nice "coming to visit" gift for a friend or family member.Their butter cake is also pretty famous, along with their creme doughnuts, muffins, shortcakes, cookies, etc etc. Remember: eat all of the things! I like their old-school ambiance. Lots of stained glass lights in their shop, and nothing is pretentious or intimidating. A bakery should be a happy, welcoming place to visit, and they nail it.

It's Danish Bakers, so they ought to bake Danish pastries ($1.50 ea) well, right? I had a Cherry&Cheese Danish, the pastry of which was somewhat dry (perhaps a bit stale) and the cheese filling was a little flat; I wouldn't get that again. I also had a Chocolate Danish which was the bomb - light, flaky, fresh, nicely sweet - perfect AND unusual. My regular and FAVORITE bakery is WeinrichBakery.com ; I love their Danish, but they don't offer a CHOCOLATE Danish, so I'll def head back to Danish Bakers for another of those.

BEST BUTTER CAKE EVER!!!!! My husband and I grabbed one on our way home from our daughters well check up. The two of us ate the whole thing in a day and were contemplating buying another one. I really don't want to know how fattening it is. It is well worth it! You have to try it!!!

My former favorite bakery when I traveled to the Philly area was Upper Dublin Bakery on Moreland Rd. However, after 50 years they suddenly closed in January of 2014. The good news is that I found this bakery that has even more delicious options. The butter cake is to die for, for starters. My wife and I stopped here four times during our last visit to Philly and found everything from the butter cake, to the coffee cake, to the Danish to be terrific and fresh. Reasonable prices also. The negatives are they only take cash and are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Another positive is that the friendly staff didn't look like they ate all their meals at the bakery! ;-)

Love butter cake. So yummy. The cookies are ok, but this spot is known for the butter cakes. Can't rate the Danish's since I never tried theirs . But butter cake.....yum!

I just recently realized they make pretzels here. Very good pretzels - crisp on the outside, of medium-density on the inside (lighter than a classic Philadelphia soft pretzel/denser than the soft pretzels of Auntie Anne's or the Amish stand on in the Amish Market on Cottman Ave.) if you are familiar with a southern German - Barvarian pretzels or Schwäbisch style Louga pretzels, they are of comparable density and with a delicateness between the thin, well-baked shell and well-baked but soft inside, that reminds me of the pretzels of those regions (of course, unfortunately, without the lye that Schwäbisch pretzels are treated with; but I don't think there have been any true Louga pretzels made in the Phila. area since Zach's and Wentzge's on Rising Sun Ave. closed. This is the next closest thing, I think, without the lye. Unfortunately they only make them on some days of the week, and not on any seeming schedule. The counter girl told me that they do tend to make them more frequently on the weekends, and that one could "order" a few pretzels -- request them, I guess -- even if it's a small order, in advance. The other thing I really love at this place is the apple strudel - very fresh, not too dense. And the cherry turnovers are also very nice. They're of course known for their butter cake, which I will admit is delicious, but a really fattening prospect. I tried Hamentaschen from the bakery about two weeks ago, and was not particularly impressed. The dough was a bit less dense than I think Hamentaschen should be/ vs. the classic Hamentaschen cookie-cake hybrid dough that one traditionally expects of a Hamentaschen. Overall, the quality is very good at this place, everything always seems perfectly fresh, and the staff is very nice. They don't take credit cards, but do take checks, so do beware of that.

I found this place by accident. The butter cake is AMAZING. In all fairness, I have no other butter cake to compare it to because this is my 1st time eating butter cake. I feel like this place is the best kept secret that many in the area don't even know about and I don't understand why. Word of mouth should've spread through the area. If anyone asks me "what's great to eat in the neighborhood" , one of the 4 things I would mention would be this Butter Cake.

The jelly roll is amazing. My dad used to bring them home when I was kid and they have always been an experience beyond words. I also love the butter cake and croissants. Try the soft pretzels too, they are delicious and a good change of pace from the normal Philadelphia style.
