Always an excellent meal! Soft shelled crabs were to die for and steak Diane never disappoints. Filet Gorgonzola is another sure bet. Check out their home made desserts too, yum!

The chef here really knows how to cook. The baked oysters were the best we've ever had, and the shrimp/scallop risotto was also superb. My wife followed that with veal medallions mixed with ravioli and shrimp, and I had the filet and lobster combo. Everything was outstanding, including the service, and they are a BYO.

It would be easy to miss this place, it gets lost in the shopping center facade. Parking was tough, always bad in this little shopping center. We went on a busy weekend night, it was a full house and somewhat noisy. I couldn't really get a feel for where the decor was going, kind of a mixed bag but oddly homey. There is a huge lighted dessert case in the middle of the dining room. The hostess (owner?) seemed a bit frazzled. After a short wait we were seated. Our waitress was terrific, she opened the wine right away and made great suggestions and also made sure we ordered before a table or 13 so we wouldn't have a long wait. The food was very good. Entrees were expensive in my opinion but portions were good. Our salads with house dressing was very nice. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and the plate presentation was very nice. Tried one chocolate cake dessert which was very good. Overall it was a nice experience and we would definitely try it again. The BYOB is a great money saver. The decor and other: It doesn't have a fancy decor but it is nice enough for the space it is in. On the picky side, none of the wine glasses matched and were all different sizes, had a small, tall glass for an expensive red. Also, there is an old couch, chair and TV inside the entrance which we assumed was for waiting patrons. On our way out one of the staff wearing an apron was stretched out with her feet/boots up on the couch with a full restaurant checking her phone. We thought that was very inappropriate (who let's their staff put their feet up and hang out literally in the middle of a dining room?) and did not lend itself to a nice restaurant. That is a little too casual. If I want to see a kid with their feet up on the couch I could have stayed home! Really no need for a TV- doesn't add anything. How about some nice music in background instead. That aside, the food is very enjoyable and worth a try. A nicely varied menu with interesting choices. Chef is talented. If it hadn't been good at some of the prices I would have been pissed since I picked the place. :). Bring wine and enjoy!

I know the neighborhood, live a mile away, and had the address in my GPS. I still almost missed this place. I don't use marketing terms like "hidden gem", but let's just say you'd be very unlikely to walk in here because you saw it from the street and thought it was interesting. Walking inside, it still wasn't really what I was expecting. It's a small, homey place...reminds me of the dining area of a bed and breakfast more than a restaurant. We were promptly seated. Service was very friendly, very personable. The menu has a surprising number of things you wouldn't expect (especially in Ridley...we aren't exactly exotic down here). They are very willing to make alterations, to upsize appetizers into entrees, or otherwise cater to your requests. As far as the food goes, it was all pretty good. I had crab cakes, my wife some sort of gnocchi. Both were good, especially considering the prices were very reasonable. It's not the sort of food that's going to change your life or anything, but it doesn't need to be. I'm glad a friend recommended we eat here, otherwise, we probably never would have - and we'll be coming back. It's friendly, comfortable, affordable, and good food. What more can you ask of a restaurant in Ridley?

Outstanding food. Usually go with salmon, filet or tuna but tonight went with Veal medallions with ravioli and shrimp and i was not disappointed. My husband had Bronzino Franchese and he loved it. Too full for dessert but taking peanut butter pie home for later

Visited the Bistro a few times now. I would give it 3.5 stars. I wish they served alcohol, but that's PA. Had the gnocchi, it was good. Returned for dinner, assortment of appetizers were good. Dinner entree was the venison with a burgundy wine sauce and some kind off apple butter sauce on the side, red cabbage and mashed potatoes. Portion size was good, had three pieces of venison, first piece was tough other two were good. (pretty sure it was frozen) I ordered med. rare - cooked perfect! Red cabbage was a little undercooked. Chef does a good job, food is flavorful and cooked correctly. Espresso for dessert was so-so, it came weak, had no crema, sugar in the raw or a spoon/stirrer. Service was friendly, just one waiter ... he was a little busy, but did a good job. I am not a big fan of the decor, but it was ok. There is a TV with a couch in the dinning room, which only an employee used. It is not a bar, so lose the TV and hire a busboy. Dessert display fridge looks like it needs more life. Overall I like this place, it has potential and I will return. I hope they improve, as they are almost at 4 stars.

Received a gift certificate for the New American Bistro for Christmas and went last Saturday night. We were able to call ahead and get a table with really no notice which was nice. Our waitress was super friendly and our dinners were excellent. I had the filet with gongazola and my husband got the chicken parm. Both were extremely tasty. My husband originally ordered the salmon with shrimp but they were out of salmon so he thought he just try the parm platter. He raved about it. Best he has ever had. I love BYOB and would highly recommend this place for a nice dinner. Not the best place if you want a quiet romantic dinner....it can be noisy. Enjoy!!

The New American Bistro consistently delivers high quality food and fabulous service! The rustic atmosphere is conducive to a romantic evening with your significant other. The menu provides a nice selection of entrees but Chef Robert augments it daily with numerous specials listed on a blackboard near the door. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Food is always delicious and the owners are friendly and aim to please. I eat gluten free so they made me a corn pasta with asparagus zucchini and avocado in garlic and olive oil and it was delicious!!! We also ordered the brocolli rabe, baked potato and I had a large Salad, my friend had the monk fish with scallops. Food was delicious and we had red velvet cake and the brownie with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Yum!!!!

Found this on Yelp. Location isn't that great, as mentioned in a previous review (WAWA issue now gone with them moving down the street). Service is still a little slow, but very friendly - just plan to enjoy the meal. Food was very good. I had a blackened tilapia with scallops and my wife had filet mignon with shrimp. Both were specials today. For dessert, I has the apple and peach pie, while my wife had the strawberry and peach shortcake. The desserts are made by the chef and are absolutely delicious. Overall, glad we found the place and will be going back.

I have to give The NAB 4 stars, which I don't give out easily. We 2 went there last night (Fri.) and surprisingly, had one of the best meals out in recent memory. I say surprisingly because there never seems to be a lot of people in there when I frequently pass by. But last night I got home kinda late and did not feel like going far, so we decided to go to NAB because it's been there, what, 2 years? and have been hearing some great things about it. We brought a nice bottle of pinot noir which they promptly opened, after chatting the friendly, lovely young waitress, C ordered their Filet with goat cheese ($25), I just got an appetizer of poached salmon with guacamole creme (about $12). Filet came with fresh veggies mix and salad, my salmon was large for an appetizer which had a nice size piece of salmon, poached perfectly (imo) on top of orzo. FRESH and delicious. The filet was cooked perfectly to order (medium, sorry) and wasn't artifically tenderized like many places like to do, with what appeared to be a demiglaze on it along with the goat cheese. My description isn't doing the meal justice. The only thing I hated was how the hostess walked us past the dessert display. Fresh pies and goodies too great looking to pass up. So for dessert - which we hardly ever have - we got their blueberry pie. OMG! For $5.50 it was a generous slice spilling over with blueberries with the lightest tastiest crust, and they added a scoop of vanilla ice cream at no additoinal cost. We brought home a piece of apple/cranberry pie too which we haven't tried yet. The bill came to - I think - $53. plus tip. We've spent twice that for much less. So, YES! I recommend this place. In fact we are bringing some friends there next Saturday night. We'll see how they do when it's busy. If I had to offer any criticism, it would have to be that although kinda cute, homey ambience, it could use some minor interior updating. That's it. Go. Now.

My first time at this byob restaurant was today for lunch. I had the fried veal cutlet sandwich and it was amazing. Came with these delicious fries and there was so much on the sandwich I ended up brining home a cutlet for dinner. Not bad for around $10. Everything is homemade and the menu changes daily or weekly I believe. This is definitely worth a try, I know Il be back!

My boyfriend and I love New American Bistro. Excellent BYOB with delicious, fresh, interesting dishes. Each meal I've had there has been delicious, and the servers and owners are extremely friendly. They have tons of specials to choose from; (I almost always get something with scallops). Their dishes are very reasonably priced for the quality. If you're looking for a great restaurant in Ridley Park, nowhere else comes close to this place.

We had dinner here last night and the food is FANTASTIC ! Small, cozy dinningroom, we were seated promptly and had great service from Rob. The menu is small, but they have A LOT of chalkboard specials. The lobster bisque was in a large bowl and very good. I had the Filet Mignon with peppercorn sauce and it was PERFECT. I didn't have dessert but my mother had the Honey Nut Vanilla Cake and raved over it. The only thing I thought was strange was the salad, mixed greens with one large piece of tomato and mixed beans, but the ceaser dressing was good. I would recommend this BYOB place to anyone looking for a nice adult meal.

We are South Philly transplants.....why didn't anyone tell us about this place before? Our daughter and son in law and grandkids ate here and could NOT stop raving. We were used to being 10 minutes away from any kind of (great) food we desired, and have been looking for a great place to eat in Delco for so long that wasn't just burgers. This visit of 6 of us had Crabcake, Shrimp Tempura, Shrimp & Scallop Risotto, Antipasti, Soft Shell Crab & fresh Oysters (that was just appetizers). Then, Liver (yes, LIVER), Tilapia & Crabcake, Chicken Saltimbocca, Salmon, and Branzino. Usually, I would review each dish but the only thing to say in the end about every single one was 5 Stars. Additionally, we had a handicapped non-verbal child in a wheelchair which our server, Ashley, just seemed to know exactly how and when to work in her food with our orders so that both she and we had perfect attention. Peach Pie, Tiramisu, Creme Brulee and Tartuffo were our desserts. All I can say is, this was the best dinner I have had in our 2 years in Delaware County. A great vibe with the chef's Mama, engaging every single customer (reminding me of South Philly at its best). Priceless. Can't say enough about Ashley, our server, who was so perfectly on point and refreshing! I will pass this along to everyone I know. That's how good it is! Oh, yeah, about the BYO...we brought 2 bottles of wine and a small bottle of Amaretto for after-dinner drinks, but also a couple of containers of Guinness because we have a tap at home and that's the only beer my husband drinks. The containers were kids containers with flowers and nobody raised an eyebrow, lol.

In reading some local news articles about this place, it turns out the owners have been around the Delco scene for quite some time. They owned a similar business in Morton many years ago, and also owned the Rose Tree Inn for quite some time before opening this place. So it's good to know that they are experienced. The atmosphere is very homey, and quite nice on the inside. Given that it is basically a storefront place, the decor does look good. Only problem is that the view is of the nearby parking lots, and if someone in the Wawa next door pops their high beams on, you get an eyeful right at your table. This isn't exactly a prime location. Perhaps they might want to invest in tinted windows or some blinds. Service was friendly, but slightly slow at times. I'll give that a pass and base the star rating specifically on the food. They do make a nice bowl of gumbo. It was good enough that my wife kept dipping her bread into my bowl. So kudos on the soup course. The salad was pretty basic offerings. The entree I chose, as did my wife, was the Chicken Parmigana. I just can't resist that choice sometimes. It is an all time favorite of mine. My basic review on their version of that dish is that I've had better. I still enjoyed it, but it wasn't up to the level of what you'd get at a place that specializes in Italian food. It could have used a little more sauce, and could have used a bit more crunch in the breading. I will say that the chicken itself was pretty fresh and juicy. Our dining partners had some salmon dishes that did look worthy of praise. The desserts were pretty decadent. My wife enjoyed her basic brownie and ice cream so much that she didn't even feel the need to taste my cinnamon roll cheesecake. Which is good because I made the decision to hoard it all for myself after the first bite. Excellent job there. I do think this place is nice enough, it's a decent choice for BYOB, and is worthy of consideration. But I'll start them with three stars and give them a chance to win more.

We came here a couple of months ago with a restaurant.com gift certificate. I'm glad that our dinner was at least discounted, because we were really disappointed on several accounts. When we entered, we were the youngest people in the restaurant by about fifty years. And we're in our thirties. So that's fine, but it was also unusual. Most memorable from our visit is how horrendously filthy the restaurant was. Every other table was left uncleared. Literally, every other table. The table next to us had the remains of someone's half chicken or cornish hen. It's very hard to get excited about your dinner when you're staring at someone else's remnants. Service was very slow, and we ended up opening our bottle of wine for ourselves. I had the pasta e fagioli to start, and it was phenomenal. I've heard that the chef's specialties are his soups, and I'd go back (if the tables appeared clean) and only have soup. I then had the crab cakes, which came with veggies and some mashed potatoes. All were fine, but they appeared to have sat under the warmer for a while - the sauce on my crab cakes had congealed and crusted over. The dinner also had the appearance of what you might be served at a wedding. Prices for the entrees were pretty high, given the quality of our experience and the fact that this is Delco, after all, and not Philly. There are an inordinate number of specials; be sure to check the board when you come in. Also, the restaurant had a TV on while we were there, and the server was watching sitcoms. I've got to say - for a "nicer" restaurant, this feature really seemed bizarre. Get rid of the TV and hire a busboy - and then we'd be willing to come back.

Went here twice since it reopened in this location. Service is poor - a couple of teenagers waited on us and clearly had no experience. They also were more interested in watching the TV than waiting on us. The food was not bad but not particularly good either and the fish we ordered was clearly raw in the middle. Tried it twice and don't think I'll be back.

The New American Bistro serves consistently good food, especially their fish and seafood dishes. The service is somewhat slow, but servers are pleasant and very accommodating. I eat there about every six weeks and recommend it.

Our family eats here often (more than once a week for lunch). We love the place, the owners, their kids and other customers. We appreciate that good food takes time and people who are not patient probably should not eat here. Rob is in the kitchen cooking alone and does a fantastic job. His food is art when it comes out of that kitchen. I just had stuffed flounder and his take is nothing like you would expect. Two differing sauces, one on each side of the fish as well as his creamy orzo (which he makes perfectly) and a fan of snow pea pods and carrots. You almost never leave without meeting someone you know or a new friend. It truly is a great atmosphere, but I think maybe you need to not have the mentality that you order and the food is there asap. You are supposed to relax and enjoy. I'm going to go there now - I just convinced myself!
