Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

We've been searching the tualatin valley for a decent italian restaurant. After trying da mimmo's, our search continues. This was a real bummer because we had slightly high hopes that we had found our huckleberry. I called at 5 to reserve a table for 7:30. When we arrived, our table had been given away. We took a table inside because i was hungry, and didn't feel like waiting for a table outside. The best item of the night was the italian rose we had with our meal. It was a marvelous bottle of wine. That was the only highlight. We were given some bland and rubbery zucchini fritters as a bandaid for our meals taking so long. It took 17 minutes for two mista salads to arrive. 1 oz of lettuce with a drizzle of vinaigrette took 17 minutes. Our entrees finally arrived. Small appetizer sized portions for italian. Her gnocchi was missing the mozzarella. We returned it and mine as well. 5 more minutes and we had them returned. I had tagliatelle with pork ragu. The pasta was under al dente. For fresh pasta it wasn't cooked extremely well. It ended up chewy and gluey. The ragu was salty and astringent and seriously lacking pork. The gnocchi were far from pillowy. They were also rubbery and under cooked. Dude dropped off the check at the end without so much as a have a good night or a thank you. We left and no one said bye. The worst part? They had it on some pandora italian classics station. We heard "the aria" 3 times in 45 minutes. I don't know. This place needs help. Real help.

I don't give high ratings except in rare circumstances, i.e. Anne Gunns in St. Louis, Chicago Chophouse in Chicago, etc. However, as someone that lived in Italy for a year I can say with absolute authority that this is not only one of the most authentic Italian meals I have eaten since I left Italy but one of the best tasting as well. The pasta is handmade each day and every ingredient is local, fresh and well handled. The salad with lightly tossed oils, a bread pizza crust that is skillet fried, and the dishes - regular and specials are executed with perfection. Be bold and take a chance on whatever they are serving...the experience is well worth every bite. Mimmo and Sal are a perfect team that deliver excellent food and a selection of Italian wines well paired to the dishes they serve. Their restaurant is small with only a handful of tables, six I think, and a few torn chairs but for those that have visited Italy, this is a common street side restaurant that is the heart of dinning in Italy. When visiting Da Mimmo's don't expect white tablecloths and black-suited waiters. What you will find a very simple restaurant with a friendly staff and excellent food. The menu is small but there is heart in everything they make. Have questions...ask as I found their knowledge of the food, ingredients, and the history of each dish to be remarkable. To me, it was a step back into time and some of favorite places in Italy. I look forward to my next trip to Oregon and dinning at what has clearly become one of my favorite restaurants. Their motto is, "con passione e amore" and it is obvious from the first bite that passion and love go into every dish.

Authentic Italian food. We had lunch, great service and atmosphere. Cost is a little on the high side for my taste, but I would go there again for a special occasion.

Words won't do this restaurant justice. My wife and I love being there. Simply the best. 6 out of 5 stars!
(5)Amy B.
Need to update their hours, we arrived to their restaurant without the current hours of operation posted on the yelp and ended up eating somewhere else because they didn't unlock doors to let us inside.
(1)David G.
Great place, fantastic food and since they have doubled in size it's more comfortable. Service is always top notch, such a welcoming place, you really feel part of the family. The food is also amazing, fresh ingredients and you can tell. Definite 5*.

My cousin, my dad, and I had a terrific meal here last Sunday evening. We sat a sidewalk table and were quite comfortable even though the day had been warm. Chef Dax is extraordinary! From appetizers to desserts, every last item was beautifully plated and delicious! Lawson, our server, was attentive and knowledgable of the menu and wine list - made good suggestions. Looks like downtown Sherwood is a go-to place!!
(5)Nate S.
I'm gonna break it down like this: 5 stars for being a local spot that does 'local' right. This is a guy living his dream, and seems as though it's just him and whatever server he can scrounge up on a given night. It's simple, and quaint. It's very Sherwood in that respect. -4 stars because it's pretty clear the prep is done well in advance. Everything we had for a table of four was shared and sampled, and each item was definitely frozen or refrigerated for quite some time. Gnocchi was the biggest culprit, here -- it was definitely frozen. 3 stars for being approachable and part of the community. People at several tables knew the chef/owner, and he bounced in and out of the kitchen to say hi and touch tables. I appreciate that. A lot. 1 star for NOT trying too hard. A simple salad was just that, and done really well. Ingredients were sourced properly, even if they were sometimes mistreated by freezing. Italian food should be simple, with excellent ingredients. This delivers in that regard. -2 stars for a lack of polish. For the prices, a bit of mystery should be involved. Nobody seems to have a uniform, and the chef looks like he's been running errands all day. The tiny interior lacks charm, and the ikea-ish curtain separating the kitchen from the dining room is inefficient at hiding the makeshift digs in the back. It smacks of a pop-up shop, and it's not. The food is good, but not great. The pricing is high, but it's one man's dream -- and I support that concept. I'd almost rather this become more of an amazing takeout spot with more timely food prep (but keep a few tables for walk-ins). If that were the case, everything else is moot, and Sherwood would be lining up to pick dinner up. Instead, it's a guy and his restaurant finding their way. Just keep that in mind before you give it a shot, because you really should.

My husband took me here for lunch and we really enjoyed it. I loved seeing the pasta hanging to dry for the dinner menu. So cool
(5)Peter G.
This is my favorite dinner spot in Sherwood. My wife and I have gone a few times, and each visit outdid the previous. Everything tastes likes it's crafted with pride and dedication. Their specials reflect the unique ingredients they bring in based on season. I look forward to more dining experiences hear and will continue to recommend this to friends and family who are looking for great, authentic Italian food.
(5)Ashlyn M.
Staff was wonderful- the food was delicious. The wine list was limited but the one we chose was great and went well with the meal. A tad pricy but overall a great place.
(4)Jessica N.
Very good authentic Italian food! I will definitely be back for more! Great service also! Side note for the folks who have said the place is too small, great news they have expanded their dining area!!!
(5)C S.
This is true Italian food. When you go to a place and there's a small menu you know it's because they focus on what they do well. The gnocchi is spectacular it's perfectly pillowy and it really truly feels like home when you go. I have been a few times and we had a family dinner there one time and it was lovely. They also have almost like a fry bread that is AMAZING. Mimmo is so very nice as well. I recommend going as soon as you can!
(5)Laurie S.
We had company in from out of town last night and wanted to stay local so we decided to try Da Mimmo. It is a small little restaurant in old town Sherwood. We walked in and it smelled strongly of parmigiano cheese and fish so we decided to eat outside Bistro style. The service was good and very friendly. I was excited to try our authentic italian restaurant in sherwood. The whole meal had the potential to be amazing. As it turned out it absolutely was not. :( We started with the caprese salad, which I love. It was very very SALTY! We then ordered dinner. My friend ordered lasagna. The pasta was over cooked and mushy. I ordered the tagliatelle with pork ragu. The pasta was under cooked. I am still not sure how one under cooks fresh pasta. It ended up chewy and gluey, like eating leather. The ragu was salty and acidic and seriously lacking pork and seasoning. The meal was over priced and not worth it. I was very disappointed. If you are looking for a great authentic italian meal try Di Nicola in Portland.
(1)Claire B.
Da Mimmo was a Yelp find. Wow, what a place! Family run, home made food. Gluten free options. (which were all amazing!) I really can't say enough nice stuff about this place. We enjoyed our meal from beginning to end. Homemade pasta was hanging off to the side, family pictures on the wall etc. Simple menu done right. Red sauce was really good! Pasta noodles were perfect. Would definitely go out of my way to go back to this place!
(5)Katie K.
De Mimmo now has a larger seating area which was definitely needed. I'd still recommend reservations because they can get busy. We've went several times over the last couple weeks and still rave about this place. I almost always order a special now because they have been beyond delicious. This past time I had the scallop tagliatelle with a cream sauce. It had so many scallops you could easily have some with each bite with such a balanced flavor. My whole family still eats gluten free and were happy to hear that almost every dish could be made with their exceptional homemade gluten free tagliatelle, gnocchi or ravioli. Also, get the gelato, it's the perfect ending to such a phenomenal meal.
(5)Wayne G.
Awesome wine, soup, salad, lasagna and lavender panna cotta! Great service and outdoor seating!
(5)Connie G.
Loved the lasagne! Oh my ~ Delish! Seating inside or outside. Top notch REAL Italian cooking.
(5)Kari G.
I was looking for something new for our 15th anniversary. I was trolling on Yelp.com and wasn't finding anything in Salem so I branched out and found this little jem in Old Town Sherwood. The place was clean, the service was great, but the food was top notch FANTASTIC!! It's a bit of a drive up from Salem, but we will be back to try something different on the menu.
(4)Shelley V.
Daily special was phenomenal: tagliatelle with shrimp in a basil pesto cream sauce. Had it with gluten free pasta that was light and delicate. I was very impressed. Gluten free lasagna also was tasty. Service was excellent. Server suggested a wine pairing with dinner that was spot on. Outdoor seating on a lovely evening. We made reservations. I will be eating here again, and making the drive from Portland.
(5)Aram L.
Best Italian food outside of Italy. Mimmo works from his family recipes and puts his Heart into his cooking. "Con Amore e Passione!"
(5)Jim W.
Well, Tried them again, knew better than to order the small meat balls. Tried the the pasta dishes, reminded me of the meatballs. Looks like they are trying just not there, I am spoiled my guide is Carmine,s in Chicago. Hope the continue to evolve!
(1)Stephanie S.
Wow! One of the most authentic, delicious, and original Italian restaurants I've ever been to. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and warm and the food was exceptional. The olive oil is handmade and some of the best I've ever tried. Do yourself a favor and try the ravioli when you're there. This place will be in my book of favorites for years to come.

Cafe Da Mimmo replaces (thankfully) Corleones Cafe. It's the same location and the same broad cuisine, Italian. But that's where the similarities end. Cafe Da Mimmo is new ownership, a new chef, a new menu, a new decor (thankfully), and a whole new approach. I started my lackluster review of Corleones saying, "I really want to like this place because it's just blocks from my house. Wouldn't we all want a good Italian restaurant just a few blocks from our house?" Well folks, you can now be jealous of me because I now have a really good italian restaurant just a few blocks from my house: Cafe Da Mimmo. The food is absolutely wonderful. The chef, Mimmo, is from Italy and learned his trade there. He has cooked at some excellent restaurants in California. And now he and his wife have moved to -- of all places -- Sherwood to start their own restaurant. The food is just excellent. The menu is somewhat limited which isn't surprising since the kitchen is the size of a coat closet and manned single-handed. But it is always good quality. The pasta is all homemade and fresh. You can really taste the passion in the food. One of Mimmo's personal specialties is gluten-free pasta and they always have several options available. There are only five indoor tables. In the summer, they will be able to add a few on the -- newly widened -- sidewalk which will be delightful. Lunch is no problem, but dinner reservations would be a good idea. As you would expect in a house this small, the service is decidedly informal, but also personal. The wine list is also limited, but corkage is only $10. This is definitely a place for people who like good food.

This is an Italian restaurant for Italians. Mimmo is from Naples, which arguably has the best cuisine in Italy. The texture of the handmade gnocchi is perfect. His sauces subtle yet flavorful, you can taste the tomato. Ragu in the United States has become about sugar and salt, you won't find any of that here. The braciole is tender and moist. The service was friendly and welcoming, as if you were in a close friend's home. The dining room is small and intimate, which adds to the experience. Sherwood is lucky to have such a gem.

Our first visit to Sherwood this past July was made all the more fabulous by discovering this amazing restaurant!! The food and wine are amazing!! We were made to feel special, our names were remembered at all three visits (in a 2 week period!) and we feel like Lawson is a new friend. Would not miss returning if in or anywhere near Sherwood.
(5)Michael B.
Great authentic southern italian cuisine. Simple dishes done to perfection, everything is made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients. Very simple and straightforward menu and wine list with daily specials for variety. Consistently good italian food in a casual atmosphere. Nothing better than enjoying a meal in downtown Sherwood outside on a warm summer night. A real Sherwood gem, definitely worth a visit.
(5)Jennifer S.
A pleasant surprise. I'm from the east coast, so, totally a food snob, and also Italian, so the expectations only go up from there. We will definitely return to Mimmo's. I got the braciole with ravioli and my husband got the lasagna. Italian starts with good handmade pasta and Mimmo's got that completely right. Cooked well and not gummy at all. Thumbs up. The braciole was tender and flavorful. I hadn't had it in years and this didn't disappoint. The one criticism I had was that there was just a bit too much sauce on top, but that's personal preference. I'd halve the amount used. The sauce itself was tangy and thick. Not watery at all. The lasagna was a good sized portion and again, the pasta was very good. Lots of meat in the sauce. Personally, I'd add more cheese, but only because that's the way I learned from my grandma and Mom. The flavor was good. Next time, I'll try the gnocchi and hope that the mussels special is back, because it was hard to make the decision between that and the braciole. Wine selection is concise and varied. We got the Etna d'Rosso and it was perfect for the meat. Ended with hand pulled espresso...(no lemon twist, which was odd, but the coffee itself was good) and hazlenut gelato. When Mimmo came out to coo a little Italiano at our baby, I felt like I was at home. Thumbs up.

I live in Sherwood and after hearing mixed reviews from friends I decided to give Da Mimmo a try. Nice small, comfortable atmosphere. The wait staff was engaging, helpful and friendly. The food was disappointing however. I had pasta and meatballs. The pasta was leather like, the meatballs were dense, dry and cold in side. The sauce tasted like bad canned tomatoes.
(2)Annette S.
Homemade gluten-free pasta!! Including ravioli and lasagne! And bread! The staff is very friendly and the whole experience was a treat!!
(5)Jared A.
First time dinning here and really enjoyed it. We went early enough we didn't need reservations but any later we would have been SOL. On to the review!! We had the lasanga and the sea urchin, both were tasty! We steered of the italian wine list and went with the pinot, excellent choice for a hot evening. We chose to sit inside which I appreciated. Since the outside seating is on the side walk people walking their dogs or skateboarding right next to you doesn't appeal to me. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I enjoy small local family restaurants and this one really does make you feel good about the dining experience. 2 of us with entree and glass of wine plus tip was 65.00. Not terribly cheap but well worth the experience. I will definitely go here again.
(4)C S.
Delicious. We've been to Da Mimmo's many times after we discovered it one cold evening last autumn. It's one of the few bright spots in Sherwood's chain-food desert, and it's a really bright star. We love the fresh ingredients, the pasta made fresh daily, and the ambiance. We're excited that they were just able to expand a bit beyond the 4 tables they had previously, and look forward to many many more delicious lunches and dinners here.
(5)T L.
I guess we went on a very off night- We ate outside bistro style, which was relaxing. Out waiter was in short shorts and hiking boots, distracting. While the whole meal had the potential to be great, there were just too many misses for us to go back. The salad was bland, about 1 oz of lettuce, no flavor dressing and no other ingredients. The main courses looked great coming out, but had cooled down quite a bit upon delivery, the hand-made pasta was under cooked, like eating cardboard dough. You couldn't have even made 1/2 a sandwich with the amount of roast been on the plate. WAY over priced for the value by about $10/plate. Apparently the chalkboard "specials" had secret prices that overshot everything else on the printed menu.
(2)Bob A.
You folks in Sherwood are lucky to have this place. EVERYTHING is made at the restaurant. Very authentic Italian with a real gourmet chef at the helm. The day I was there he was making a special with whole quail. Who does that? Totally awesome. I will be back as soon as I can.

My friend had heard that Da Mimmo had good Italian food. So a few days before we planned to go I phoned the restaurant to make a reservation. A man with a delightful Italian accent answered "Da Mimmo's!" The whir of the mixer in the background kept me from hearing him clearly but I asked if I could make a reservation. "Un momento" was the reply as I heard a light thunk as the phone was placed on a hard surface. Soon the whir of the mixer ceased. Upon his return we navigated easily making a reservation for two on Friday night. When he asked my name I realized that it would be much wiser to give him my friend's name. "The name is Jojo Petro." "Ah....Mexicano or Italiano?" He asked. To which I replied..."Italiano...by marriage!" For the rest of the week I wondered what kind of treat we were in for! Our anticipation was not wasted. This small little restaurant had three tables outside and three inside. We were given the option as to where to sit so we chose outside. Our waitress was stellar from beginning to end. The perfect blend of attentiveness without bothering us. She made great recommendations for us, even sharing with us what her favorite dishes were. I wish I had taken a picture of the wine bottle. But it was delicious. A lovely, bold but smooth Italian wine that paired perfectly with our meal. The menu tempted us to buy more than our stomachs could hold. We ended up with a flank steak stuffed with Pesto, Mozzarella cheese and pine nuts, and the Lasagna. The ragu's were made with pork. The depth of flavor in each dish, while different, made me want to lick my plate. Which I did when no one was looking. ;) Our entrees were served with roasted golden potatoes that melted in your mouth, but we also dipped them in the sauce. They made an excellent sponge with which to clean up the sauce from the entrees! By the time we finished the meal the chef was sitting along side is at one of the other tables enjoying his creations with a large glass of wine. For a moment I felt like I was in Naples! :) We finished our meal enjoying salted carmel and double chocolate gelato. The restaurant is in the quaint old town area of Sherwood. I am already planning my next visit!
(5)Michael L.
No fresh herbs in ravioli, under cooked, swimming in oil and parmesan. Lasagne pasta over cooked. Out of all their specials at 8:15. Salad and olive oil / bread was good.

I went to Da Mimmo with my family as a surprise authentic Italian dinner while they visited me at my new house in Sherwood. I had never been to Da Mimmo before and based on the reviews I read - I figured it'd be AH-MAZING. It absolutely was not. Firstly, when people say this place is small - IT IS SMALL. We had a table of 4 and could barely fit us in there, alone the 3 other tables of guests. This isn't much of a problem though since I knew this going in - and I find a spark in small "hole-in-the-walls". What did bother me though are what you get for the prices they charge. A small lasagna will throw you back $18, their cheapest bottle of wine is $35 (a bottle I could get in the store for $10). And to top it off, one of us wanted to try their meatballs and tried to order 1 meatball. The waiter was very nice and said that they are small so she should get a bowl of them (around 10), and led us on to believe that it'd be free. When we got the bill, we were charged $10 for that side of meatballs!! Even worse, it surprised the waiter! $10 for 10 meatballs that are 1/2" thick is outrageous. Don't get me wrong, my family and myself make extremely good money and are more then willing to pay top dollar for a good meal (like Oba in the Pearl District) but these prices are outrageous. I will admit the food WAS good, like my lasagna for example - was very good. But for $18 it should have been amazing. I've had better at Olive Garden. This lasagna should have cost me $12. Bottom Line: Eat here if you want to waste money on decent food, be cramped in a tiny space, and feel like you can only talk at a very low level. If you do go - bring a bottle of wine, their corkage fee is only $10. If you want good italian food in a more italian-like "fun" atmosphere, go to Mama - Mia's in Portland. Skip this place. Once Da Mimmo decides to charge what others are charging I may go back, but I doubt it.
(2)Courtney P.
I've heard Da Mimmo raved about from several friends, and still, we were blown away. The pasta and gnocchi is handmade, their sauces are phenomenal, and there is a wonderful selection of Italian wines. Not to mention that I won't have to travel to SE Portland for a gelato fix anymore! Plus there are so many gluten-free options. It's a very small, intimate setting, and you can see glimpses of Mimmo preparing your dinner right behind the curtain. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, it just was such a refreshing dining experience. In such a foodie-pretentious city like Portland, it's nice to enjoy such high quality food from people who are so warm and inviting. I highly recommend you find out for yourself!
(5)Heather M.
Delicious food. Very fresh flavors. My family of four really enjoyed our visit. The staff is friendly and helpful. The tiramisu was amazing. It does cost more than chain places, but worth every penny!
(5)Gary K.
Half of our meal was amazing, the other half was meh. All of it was over priced. Came here on the recommendation of a winery down the road. I like how it is a small hole-in-the-wall sort of place. Antipasto was amazing. Great cheese. Great meat. The ravioli I had were amazing. Very light sauce but super flavorful and fresh. The rabbit was also delicious. My wife had hand cut noodles with sauce and meatballs. The sauce was so thick that that it was difficult to eat. It also tasted VERY acidic and needed some sort of seasoning. Meatballs were ok. The noodles were also a bit...dry? It just seemed like the noodle dish was reheated leftovers. The wine list was way overpriced, just like my rabbit. I understand you can't get rabbit everywhere, but I was served 2 VERY small pieces, totalling up to about the size of one hot wing. I also only got 5 ravioli. For this tiny amount of food I was charged $25. At least throw on some more of that amazing ravioli. It's locally sourced, handmade food, which is awesome, and I understand costs more. But it just seemed a bit too much more than it should have been.
(3)Kimberly F.
Authentic italian goodness. Hand made pastas and sauces by Mimmo himself. Lasagna is huge -enough to share. Wine list is growing from local wineries. Small and quaint dining area - would love to see them expand eventually. Come with time to spare. Very laid back pace where you are treated like family in a home not rushed through dinner to make room for the next guest. Make reservations as word is spreading quickly. Da Mimmo is my favorite little spot to enjoy the special of the day with a great glass of pinot noir!
(5)Jennifer H.
I was skeptical at first, having eaten in Italy I had yet to find anything close to "Authentic" Italian food. To compare this place with Olive Garden is a joke... that's like comparing Stumptown coffee to 7-11 coffee. They are not even in the same league. The food is wonderful, the owners are hands on. So attentive and after we got our food I noticed the chef checking in to see how we liked it. He takes real pleasure in serving his dishes and it shows. I have eaten there three times and I have not been disappointed with the food yet. I usually get the tagliatelle. My husband and I honeymooned in Europe and spent four days in Italy, which is where I was introduced to tagliatelle. Since that trip eight years ago I have searched far and wide for something that comes close to the food we had there (especially the tagliatelle as I fell in love with it). I have not been able to find it until now. It truly is authentic food. The price point is high, but the quality of the food is worth it. If Olive Garden or Spaghetti Factory are your favorite Italian restaurants, this place may not be for you, but if you appreciate homemade quality food made with pride then make a reservation and go. It's fantastic!
(5)John L.
Da Mimmo lives up to the reviews! It's a very tiny place with only 5 small tables, so be sure and make reservations if you can. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and prices were reasonable. I could live on that pan fried pizza bread they served with the salad!
(5)Rachel S.
Fresh hand made pasta & sauces from a tiny kitchen. Local products. Family owned. Delicious food. The service is personal, the place is warm & inviting, & the food is excellent. If Sherwood residents don't claim this as their favorite neighborhood (Italian) restaurant, then I don't know what will please them.
(5)Amy C.
this was so gross! bertolli from the grocery store is way better! we did not enjoy anything about this place its tiny and food was not worth the money at all!
(2)George C.
Had a delightful meal here mid-week. Glad we made a reservation as the restaurant is small and filled shortly after we arrived. We had the Lasagna and the Tagliatelle and both were excellent. The salad to start had a wonderful dressing and was served with a tasty flat bred. Will return.
(5)Tom D.
We were very excited to try this place since good restaurants in our home town of Sherwood are rare. We liked how it is a hole-in-the-wall sort of place, with almost as much seating outside on the quiet sidewalk as there is inside. I had the special "fried meatball" plate and my wife had the house lasagna. Frankly, the white wines we tried there were the best part of the meal. Our dinner salads were fresh but only a plain lettuce arrangement, with nothing else. The dressing certainly was tasty, but that's it? My 4-5 meatballs were small and dried out. They were dwarfed by the pasta and tomato sauce that accompanied. The pasta sauce was very acidic, and not very flavorful. My wife's lasagna may be an old family recipe, but it lacked texture and definition; it seemed almost "blended" and mealy. The meatball dish was $20 and not worth it. The pasta seemed dry. Wine selection was decent, but spendy compared to the restaurant's theme and environs. Sorry to say, we won't go back. When you compare Da Mimmo to a similar priced venue in Portland, such as Justa Pasta on NW 19th, it doesn't even come close.
(2)Ann S.
What a great addition to Old Town Sherwood! Friends of ours had a huge lasagna made for a party. It was wonderful! I usually go for lunch and have a meatball sandwich with a simple side salad. Yummy, my mouth is watering now!
(5)LaJean L.
An absolutely great authentic Italian experience using the freshest of Oregon's bounty! Like Laura C., as previous travelers to Italy, we were somewhat amazed to leave this terrific little spot and find ourselves still in Sherwood, not Napoli! Our pasta entrees were authentic, true to Mimmo's mother's recipes and wonderfully prepared. The linguini was perfectly al dente (hard to find anywhere in Portland), and the sauce absolutely delicious, as was the ravioli with fresh ricotta, Oregon hazelnuts and sage leaves. The wine list, while brief and very carefully curated, was in absolute harmony with the menu. We loved the intimacy and excellent service at this small but outstanding spot, which we would rank right up there with any other authentic ristorante Italiano in the Portland area. Being able to practice our rusty Italian with the staff added to the enjoyment of the evening. We went on a Thursday night, and it was easier to get a table later in the evening. Even if we weren't within bicycling distance of this great new spot, we will definitely go out of our way to return to the most affordable way to experience the best cuisine of southern Italy.

Truly authentic southern Italian food. Fresh handmade pasta and gnocchi. Great italian wines and local, seasonal ingredients. Lots of gluten free options too that are so delicious you won't miss the wheat.

This is a small restaurant with five or six tables inside and then perhaps four or so outside. I love the neighborhood feel and the authentic Italian dishes (the owner's accent takes me back to a cooking tour we experienced in Italy a few years ago). I had rabbit and it was so tender and lovely. The best rabbit I've ever had. My husband had crab--also fantastic. The weather was great so we could sit outside and watch people riding bikes and walking dogs.

A group of six of us came here for dinner and had a delicious, satisfying meal on a beautiful summer night after a long and hot road trip from Seattle. The place is tiny but we were able to sit outside and they easily accommodated our whole group. The wines are amazing, I don't think they are available retail but I'm hoping they are. The waitress told me they had a sommelier choose the wines to perfectly compliment the dishes and they certainly did. I had the gnocchi, which was excellent. I personally make gnocchi (taught by Nana) so I was ready to judge, and these didn't fail. They were light, fluffy, filling and delicious. We also had some wonderful prosciutto wrapped melon for a starter that had great texture and explosive flavor. The others had the lasagna, gluten free ravioli, and some kind of rabbit dish that was amazing. It wasn't cheap food but then again, it's definitely not a nasty chain Italian place with endless bread sticks, frozen food and iceberg lettuce w/shaved carrot salads. I will happily pay a little more to know that: A) An Italian actually cooked our Italian food, what a concept!! B) I support small business, they are good for communities and make bucolic little towns like Sherwood charming rather than homogenic C) They use seasonal and local ingredients when possible and my food isn't coming from a corporate manufacturer. I tried a bit of everything from my friends plates and what I said then is what I will say now...everything was bright and fresh with great vibrant flavors. The service was affable and attentive. Because it's small I would recommend reservations. They were easily able to accommodate our large group but we called ahead.

The staff was really nice. The noodles were undercooked. Tomatoes overripe. Salad anemic. Raviollis hard as rocks. Prices high($75 for 3, one just had a tiny salad). Serving size small. Etc. and so on. I read all the rave reviews. These people are confused or fake. You'll be pissed you went and looking to go elsewhere to finish eating. I wanted to like it, but I'm a better cook.
