New brewery in Oakridge? That's worthy of a roadtrip. The brewer here has a serious jones for English style beers and pubs. He has gone out of his way to recreate that feel in this rural small town up the McKenzie highway. All of the beers he brews are presented Cask style which is an old-school way of serving the beer without CO2 but hand pumped and kept at about 50 degrees. I have to start out by saying I am not a fan of English beers. I do not put English style beers anywhere near the top of my favorites list and cannot say I enjoyed either of the two beers I tried. The Weird IPA was truly that and did not leave my pallette wanting more also the Rye Session beer was more sour on the front end than I enjoy. The place has been open less than 6 months so I'll give it another try down the road a bit. Maybe the brewer is still working out the kinks. I put these on par with homebrews I've tried that are trying for a different flavor profile and fall a little short. Burgers were good and clientele was unique so it was worth the trip out. Also there are six other tap handles pouring some great northwest beers so there are options. As a brewery it needs time to mature, as a pub it's just about right.

I have been traveling through Oakridge for years and a couple years ago stumbled upon this place. They have some fantastic Cask Beers that they brew plus a nice selection of guest taps if old English style beer isn't you flavor. The staff are very welcoming and laid back and make you feel like your home while you there, even if you are just passing through. They have some great food as well... I would go as far as saying its the best in town but if you are driven through Oakridge you would know your options are slim. I would recommend this place to all my friends and family as the place to go for beer and food in Oakridge.

Because Oakridge has become a Mountain Biking destination, and it just so happens that's why I was there, I am going to review the Brewer's Union Local 180 from the perspective I had when I arrived there: Just finishing a 20+ mile ride (Alpine-Tire Mountain-Winberry) and rolling into town absolutely drained. The Local 180 has everything you could want in a pub, spectacular tasty, refreshing, and creative beer along with simple food that fills you up. Fish & Chips? Of course! Spaghetti? Only if I can get extra noodles for my carbo load! The bottom line is you don't come here because you are looking for fine dining, you come here to fill your stomach with beer and food, mingle with other mountain bikers as well as locals, and stumble back to whatever campsite or hotel you came from only to repeat the whole thing the next day.

The brewer does indeed have quite a handle (pun intended) on his English beers. I'm more of a Pacific Northwest uber hoppy beer lover, but I can appreciate Brewer's Union's well crafted, ales of another genre. He always has a few Northwest microbrews on tap, so you're not stuck with just the English beer. The food is quite good and will satisfy both carnivores and vegetarians. The menu is extensive, with above par bar food selections and more unique, British items like bangers and mash. He does tempeh really well and will sub it in the British pub food.

I've been here a few times over the years and it really hasn't changed much. I would really give it 3 1/2 stars, but the service we got bumped it up. The location is off of Highway 58, in a part of Oakridge that many people do not know exists. I didn't for years! The building is quite old and on the run down side, but has just enough character to not make it feel like a dive or a dump. They have a good beer selection as well as cider which the wife likes. The menu is limited, but the food is fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Especially considering Oakridge is fairly remote. I really can't think of a similar place in all of Oakridge, but if you're in the area after a bike, hike or ski trip this place is worth the stop.

Decent food, nice decor. The service was friendly, but ineffective at best and incompetent at worst. You order at the bar -- which is severely understaffed -- which means you wait in line for 20 minutes to order while someone else samples two or three beers before making a selection. Then you wait for an additional 5 minutes while the single bartender pours a total of 3 beers. I ordered a burger, and it arrived at my table 75 minutes later with no apology or even really warning from the staff. None of our food came out at the same time -- most people had finished eating before the last person in our party got his food. I can't in good conscience recommend a restaurant where you can walk in at 7:15 on a weeknight and not get any food until 9:00.

I didn't get the memo for when Oakridge became the next big thing in the Cascades' biking and hiking community. But I don't get the memos on a lot of things. For me Oakridge was a redneck timber town where as a college student we would sneak through to Mcredie hot springs to go skinny dipping. We had little interest in daytime Oakridge. But somewhere, somehow, somebody figured this logging ghost town could be made into a really cool spot, and Brewers Union looks to be one of the big pieces to that effort, symbolically at least. If you had told me Oakridge would be hosting a brewery specializing in British-style ales and such, I'd have thought you'd been hanging out near the UO campus too long. Yet there they are. As a total package, BU does just about everything right. Their brews are top notch. Their food kicks ass. Any place doing their own house-cut fries gets respect in my book. Lastly, they haven't done up their place, going rustic all the way and that is part of the charm. Don't be a sucker. Check them out if around Oakridge. Actually, make a special trip.

Stumbled upon this place through a recommendation and I am glad we did! A fun and relaxing environment for all (even families!) Their sweet potato fries are amazing! We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed getting to chat with some of the locals. A very welcoming town.

On the way to wilderness adventures or on the way home from said adventures, you must stop here. I do as much as possible. Not a huge fan of the "English cask style"... I am quite happy my ancestors left that cold little island...but there is so much to enjoy here, I am quite content to take it that way. The house brews are eclectic and forever rotating as is their "guest" taps. You are sure to find something you like to quench your thirst, including wine or cider, while you visit with your fellow adventurers, the locals, and quite possibly the brewer and owner who never seems to go home. The food is far better than average as far as the burgers go. I haven't tried anything else. The patty is well seasoned, moist, and stirring up my salivary glands as I type. The buns are made locally just down the road. The fries are hand cut and cooked perfectly. Really, just a fantastic burger. The atmosphere is just so damn welcoming. The epitome of a public house as it seems the entire town was there and happy to see you. So in summary....if you are near Oakridge, do yourself a favor and go. Don't expect high speed service on the food, it's not what it's about. Slow down. Enjoy a cask ale. Thank me later.

Wow, what an awesome surprise in the middle of nowhere! On our way to Corvallis to see ASU play the Beavers we stopped in Oakridge for lunch. Brewers Union has the most creamy, yummy, IPA I have ever had. Brewed and served in the "real ale" style, it had the feel and flavor of an English pub. The atmosphere is as wonderful as the service, beer and food! Take a moment and stop here if you are traveling through. You won't regret it!

We were in town for 6 days and ate there 5 nights. The other place we ate was also awesome, but this place was spectacular. Everything was good. The people are nice. The food and beer are great. I can't say enough good things.

I absolutely love this place. It's one of the few places in Oregon that has legit cask ale. Cask ale is a lot different than most American beers, so if it's your first time get a taster instead of a full 20 ounce pint. The food is awesome, sweet potato fries, burgers and chicken strips are my favorites. If you're in the area after hiking, biking or snowboarding go grab a pint and some awesome food.

When you think of Oakridge, artisan dining doesn't come to mind. Yea, for the Brewer's Union. Salt n pepper scones and the buffalo sauced tempeh were good appetizers. The BBQ cheddar, bleu pear, and mushroom swiss burgers were very good. Doused with a garlic butter, the 1/2 pounders came medium rare and full flavor. Yes, pears. Sweet potato fries - yes. yes. The roasted half chicken was a biggun and slightly undercooked, likely because of the size. It was however bland and lacked seasoning. The kids' menu chicken strips: hmm. 2, not large. bland. and the side of pear was a quarter of one. (Guess the rest went on the burger.) Plus it was a sunny day and the place was dark. Dim lighting does not ambience make. Uneven, but I'd return.

We've stopped here many times after an afternoon of Mountain Biking on the trails around Oakridge. The beer has never let us down, but the food left something to be desired. NOT ANYMORE! They have a new chef and she knows her stuff! We had heard this and so we had food this time. We ordered the Spinach Salad with dried cranberries, balsamic vinegarette but they had run out of chicken, so they piled the bacon on bigh. It was awesome. I don't think this place had ever run out of anything before. We'll definitely eat here again.....The beer is AWESOME

Solid brew pub in the middle of nowhere. The beer was good. The kid's mac and cheese and the fried fish were great. The Brewmaster salad was good but perhaps missing something. The atmosphere is really cool and kid friendly. We were really glad we stopped here.

The English-style brews are, "not my favorite," but there are still several reasons to love this place. 1) Community spirit. Brewer's Union has a definite 'come one, come all' approach, which is evidenced in the all-ages crowd that I often see on my visits. I love this vibe, and appreciate it whenever I see it. 2) Great live music. When I was last here, in March of this year, there was a kick-a** band from PDX rocking out 8 - 10. 3) Great food. Especially after a day on the mountain, I love their fries (no soy oil in sight). At one point, in early 2012, the chef/owner of the now-closed TrailHead took over the kitchen here. That was a very special time, which may have ended. Case in point, last year I was there on St. Paddy's and had HOME-MADE corned beef. This past year, it was standard variety. Not sure what to make of this, but I dropped a star because of it because, yes, I have high standards. 4) It's in Oakridge. Where else are you gonna hang?

I really wanted to give this place three stars, but the more I thought about it, I couldn't justify the third. My friends and I stopped here for a late lunch after a Saturday morning and early afternoon of geocaching in the area. The weather was nice enough that we could eat outside (plus we had my dog with me, so he needed to be tied up outside anyway). We found out quickly that we needed to order inside at the bar, which we did--but the food and drinks were so glacially slow to arrive that we had to check at least once to make sure it was still on its way. In fact, my beer, which the bartender said she'd bring right out, never surfaced--I had to go back inside to remind her about it nearly fifteen minutes later and I was given the wrong beer though she insisted it was in fact what I ordered. The burgers were nicely hand-made and very juicy, but they just lacked seasoning and any real depth of flavor. Given that we were quite hungry, the place wasn't bad, but it was such an overall "meh" experience that I give the joint two stars.

Fun little microbrewery in Oakridge, OR with a good selection of beers and a lovely interior. The Brewer's Union is such a comfortable place to sit and talk with friends, and it's easily the nicest place in Oakridge though considering the alternatives, you can take that with a grain of salt. The food here is not fantastic. I'm not sure you'll get better food elsewhere in town, but again, not saying much. I've found everything I've eaten here to be very bland and flavorless, they really need to work on the food options. The quesadilla comes with options like tempeh, which is awesome, but it's full of cheese that is so cheap and bland, they might as well have stuffed it with plastic. If you don't mind a bit of bland bar food in exchange for a great place to have a beer with your friends, maybe play some table top games, then I definitely recommend Brewer's Union. Two stars for food, four stars for atmosphere!

This place was great. Stopped by on a whim while driving through Oakridge. They make their own cask conditioned beers. The IPA and strong ale were great. Felt like they were well balanced. Flavorful but very drinkable. Had the Rueben sandwich which was very good and handcut fries. Really wanted to stay for a couple more but had to get on the road!

A serious gem. Oregon is a beer state, and this place might be one of the crown jewels. English style beers, which means they are generally mild and served a bit warmer than most American style beers. The service was great, the place is pretty cool, and the beer is outstanding. They sell quart jars to go. I think the deposit on each jar is $2, which is a good way to get people to bring them back. I won't be able to pass this place again without stopping. Consider me a lifetime fan!

I know 5 stars when I see it, and BUL180 has all of them, and then some. These numerical ratings are arbitrary, of course, and highly personalized. We Yelp the experience, not the place itself. Some days are better than others. And we're not professional critics here, after all. But I know what I like and what I look for in a roadhouse/pub, and here in Oakridge, they've got it. The atmosphere inside reminded me of the Barley and Hops Tavern in Occidental, CA * yelp.com/biz/barley-and-… ): lots of warm wood surfaces, distinctive room feelings, from a "Friends"esque coffeehouse space with soft seats and big windows, to a classic billiards and darts gaming section, to a Northwestern barstool and beer section where the cask-conditioned, hand-pumped magic happens. The food keeps pace with the liquid pub libations: a veggie wrap with local produce and a half-pint of anniversary ale (to mark the 5th year of operation) made the perfect mid-afternoon break during a recent (August 2012) roadtrip. The place was populated with a smattering of regulars and passers-through like myself. We all had made the pilgrimage to sample English-style ales and bask in that distinctive Oregon Cascades atmosphere. Even several nearby wildfires did little to alter the ambiance. Neither did the outside heat (mid-90s): the walls of this place are thick, the air flow was steady, and the interior was shaded without being too dark to see. Pub culture is what you make of it. It's not a hipster bar. It's not a Starbucks. It's not a peanuts-on-the-floor dive, or an out-of-the-box "Irish pub" serving multinational stout (Yes, I'm talking to you, Diageo/Guinness!) Here, they do it their own way, blending the best of English brewing with Beaver State can-do attitude. And they do it very well, indeed.

Food's not bad. Needs seasoning. Even my kids said the chicken strips needed seasoning. Order at the bar. Menu is at the bar. Be prepared to wait. Beer is good. Service is friendly but disorganized.

Four beers on tap here plus guest taps. Didn't care for their Scottish Export... No flavor there. The "Hoppy Strong Ale" was decent. IPA was medium ok. Nice atmosphere. We did not order food but will definitely come again when we pass through. I can't wait to try the tempeh tots and they offer several veggie/vegan choices. I will rate it a 4 for the atmosphere and decent beer until I can come back and try the food.

If you like long waits and unfriendly service- unless they know you- then this is your place. NOT gluten free friendly since they took the greek salad off the menu and that was the only choice before. Why don't they have two lines for ordering? Food in one line and drinks in the other? Had to wait 5 full minutes to pay my bill.

Still 5 stars (or more). New food menu is great, with several salads and specials. One of the awesome things about Brewer's Union is no matter how big your group is, 2 or 20, it's comfortable and accommodating.

The Pub has definitely improved since they hired a great new chef! The food is a LOT better than it used to be and is the best you can get in this little burnt out town. If you are expecting great service, think again. If the staff knows you, you will probably get decent service and if they don't, you will get ignored. But this is normal for small town USA, so don't take it personally. The biggest complaint I have is that they will shut the doors when they feel like it, full house or not. Overall, they don't seem to run a great business but that is their decision! They don't really help you find a place to sit but you can let the kids run amuck and no one minds so that is a huge plus in my book.

It's impossible to dislike a lot of things after a morning of snowboarding, especially when it was my first time doing so in Oregon. The sharp bite of the cold air was soon forgotten as I freely lunged myself from the summit. The sounds of crackling in the snow, the gorgeous landscape of snow-covered fir trees, and my hips and ankles alternately edging each side of my Solomon towards the base all robbed my attention from how freakin' cold it was. I was immediately reminded of it, however, when I forgot that I'm not Shaun White as I hoisteed my board up over a bank that's more than half my height and plowed right into it instead. I did this repeatedly, of course. And it was repeatedly unsuccessful . Why you may ask? Because.... Burger and brew was waiting for me. Oh, and I'm not that great of a snowboarder. But I do like air (both voluntary and non-voluntary...the kind where you don't see a mogul and going over it launches you). In my world, it's totally justifiable to have a "sinful" meal after surviving many attempts of what can be physically injurious. And I end up NOT disliking any of my choices, including choosing to eat starchy carbs! My friends who I've adopted me to be part of their family (thank you, N&B!) introduced me to this fine establishment. The Brewer's Pub served a tasty and juicy burger, (medium done, as I prefer my burgers), and freshly fried sweet potato fries. Cider on tap is always a treat for me, so that was my chosen poison. They also have cards, board games and darts to mess with, and both a kiddie and regular sized pool tables. I've been warned to stay away from their own brewed beers because it's "English style"...warm and flat. I'm pretty sure I'd still enjoy a meal here even if I hadn't done any riding. Seriously...they have cider on tap!

They specialize in English beer (i.e. served warm). We specialize in drinking cold beer. While interesting was not our cup of tea (or brew). However, they have cold beer on tap and the Aussie beer we had was very good. Nice people, seemed to be a bit overwhelmed that at 3pm they had a crowd still.

I ripped these guys a few years ago for the lack of character in their house cask beers. Well, this is one of those occasions where I'm happy to have been wrong. I've been by a few times in the past couple months and they've come a long way with their house brews. Their IPAs, in particular, have gotten leaps and bounds better. Now I'm not going to say it's worth a side trip for the beer, because they're just about average, but that's a lot better than the 'ehhhhh, um... no' that they elicited a few years ago. I mentioned it before but they've done a really good job creating a welcoming space. It's never been real busy when I've been in, but I was there the other night on a Friday and happy to sit and shoot the shit for a few hours with friends without feeling rushed in the slightest. The pool tables are placed well enough back that they're not distractingly loud, and they've usually got some good music on up front. It's also nice place to sit and read a book while sipping a pint on a cold winter's day. Unfortunately, after the second or third pint, my retention declines and my need for constant breaks to the loo goes up. That's probably not the fault of the Union, though. Also of note - they're more than happy to let you sample what's on tap 'til you find one you like.

I've been through Oakridge a few times and hadn't had a good meal. Went the other day after biking down Aufderheide. It hit the spot. Couldn't fully enjoy the beer (they serve 1/2 pints!) as I had 55 miles of biking to go but the food was great. Will go back for the beer!

Whether you wind up in Oakridge after a camping trip, a day of skiing or after an epic hike-Brewers union Local 180 is a must. Their specialty is English style cask conditioned ales made in house. Cask conditioned ales tend to be less carbonated and served at a higher temperature so it can be a bit of a change, but it's well worth it. If you can't quite wrap your mind around that, 180 has you covered with an exciting guest tap list that even includes ciders. Do note that Brewers Union Local 180 serves beer in TRUE English pints. Meaning you will get a full 20oz (line to prove it) for pints and 10oz for half pints. The pub itself has an old house feel, with multiple rooms, couches tables and of course a bar. You can choose to hide out on the couch with your pint and surf the web (free Wi-Fi) or sit at the bar and be in the middle of it all. There is also pool for adults (and a cute little table for kids), a wall of board games and a good collection of books and magazines. In the summer months the front patio is the place to be, and a lot of people relax there with their dogs while enjoying a pint. Do be sure to check out their food menu. There are many items to please both vegies and carnivores alike. Garlic cheese fries are as good as they sound and well worth the trip from Eugene on their own. Add a pint Mutant Dew, and I'm in heaven. All their food is awesome so I recommend going with friends ordering a bunch and sharing.

Very good brew ! ! We stopped for a few minutes on our way to the snow and enjoyed a few here. This place is like stepping into an old bar in a ghost town. Lots of furniture, books and pool-tables scrounged-up to make the place comfortable. Free pool I might add. Don't pay any attention to the awful hi-way 58 in Oakridge, this place is on a nice quiet street. I wish it was warmer so we could sit outside.

What a great find! Visited the area in October, decided to try it out and awesome! Their cask beer is wonderful. We had a few on a fantastic fall day enjoying their outdoor seating with some fantastic dinner. If you are driving through town take the time make a stop!

After riding all day in Oakridge, I went to the legendary Brewer's Union were I was greeted by some friendly locals. Sat down and ordered a burger and a IPA. The burger wasn't the best, but I found it tasty and satisfying after a ride. Their IPA is quite good. Balanced but not too hoppy and smooth, probably because the lack of carbination, but they like to keep it real in regards to that and I respect it. I would go back in a heartbeat! Cool place to chill as well!

This brew pub makes a road trip to Oakridge, or camping near by, quite worthwhile. The cask beers are terrific. The other beers are decent -- if you like Oregon and other USA beer, you'll be quite satisfied. If you are a fan of European beer, you will find them bland. The fish is excellent, the other dishes could be better. Love the patio, the book shelves, the big open spaces inside, and the pool table. We didn't get to play darts, but it's always a good sign for a bar when you see such, IMO. All in all, I really wish this pub was in our almost barless town (Canby) rather than so far away in Oakridge.

Found this place by accident, because it's not on the main highway. Stopped to get gas and on the advice of the attendant, we headed over. Old building, nicely broken into sections. A place to relax with couch and loveseat, a place for games, darts, music, boardgames, and the bar area, although fairly small. Free pool on 1 table. Nice touch. Beer is good and cold. A nice micro brewery. Had the fish and chips. A bit pricey at $12. Two pieces of fish and a small amount of french fries. No bread or cole slaw and very small amount of tarter sauce. Food was good, but amount was lacking. Very friendly staff. Seems to attract 21-35 year old crowd, at least while I was there on a Sunday afternoon. I would stop again if in the area, but wouldn't make a special trip. (From Eugene)

We came here for dinner after a long day of hiking. Cask beers are subjective -- previous reviewers are all over the place. However, I happen to like them -- I had an IPA and a Rye (which is the first time I have *ever* enjoyed a Rye). Both sweet potato fries and chips were great, and I enjoyed my tempeh reuben, though my girlfriend's fish was a bit on the greasy side. All things considered, we would eat here again.
