Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

In a nutshell: good simple food at great prices. Tried this place for the first time for lunch during the week. Food was good and the price can't be beat - we both had their lunch specials which give you a decent sized serving of tasty pasta plus a salad for $6.95. I had chicken with marinara, everything was cooked well and flavorful. My partner had something with sausage that he also liked a lot. The lunch special menu has about 10-12 choices, all are pasta with chicken, meat, or veggies (only two had a sauce that was not creamy/cheesy though). Everything includes a salad (either caesar or house). The service was fast and friendly and the space is large and bright - it's on a corner with big windows. There's also a patio in the back. The decor is just a smidge cheesy italian, with some fake bunches of grapes here and there, but nothing overbearing. We will certainly come back sometime soon to try dinner too.

In a word....boring. I had the Pollo Carbonara. It was okay. Nothing interesting about it and I really didn't like suddenly biting down on a clump of parsley....but nothing too bad I guess. My husband had the cheese tortellini di zuccha. Tortellinis and butternut squash, mushrooms and spinach. He added a meatball. The tortellini seemed store bought. It was bland and mushy. The squash was really good and the meatball was good. Everything else was...meh. And the wine I got I really didn't enjoy, but I don't know much about wine, so maybe I just picked a bad one... All in all, no huge complaints, but we won't be back.

We had lunch there during the hop festival and enjoyed everything. Will differently be going back for dinner.

Very good food. Friendly, professional wait staff and management. Beautiful patio. Worth the drive from Salem.

Absolutely a delightful surprise. Had dinner on their large enclosed patio. Each had a glass of Pinot Gris from two different OR wineries. The wait staff was young and inexperienced which was the only flaw. The Calimari appetizer very lightly battered and served with Garlic Aoli. Then we had Seafood Fettucini loaded with big beautiful shrimp, delicate small scallops and white fish. The cream sauce enhanced the dish rather than smothering it. I tried the Baked Sausage hoping for a dish similar to a favorite in CO. Not the same but sliced sausage and rigatoni in a tomato cream sauce. Again, a nice sauce with flavor but not drowning the dish. Everything fresh and cooked to order. Nothing off the Sysco truck, thank goodness. We will definitely be going back. Prices extremely reasonable

Slow service. Wasn't helped for at about 10 minutes after sitting down. Wine was ok, a little too warm (room temperature) could have been a little more chilled. Server said it would take about 30 minutes for the lasagna to come out, but it took about 10 minutes, which was great! Had the Meat Ravioli and the Lasagna. Both were very fresh. The red sauce was flavorful, fresh, light not very heavy but tasty and filling. Yummy Italian food that wasnt too gourmet but traditional and delicious. Mangiare produced a satisfying meal. I'll be coming back!

What a find! Came all the way from Tigard, OR to have lunch at the most wonderful Italian restaurant that I have dined at in years. The atmosphere was rustic Italian and not overdone. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel very welcomed. But the best part of our experience was the awesome food. The Caesar dressing was great and the romaine lettuce was crisp. My Chicken Gorgonzola was very flavorful with just the right amount of cheese. They also have a great wine list. My wife and I cannot wait to return.

I don't understand the hype. I was so excited when I heard about this great Italian restaurant, just over the river that when looking for a restaurant for my dad's birthday, we opted to give it a try. I had looked it up here on Yelp and saw that they took reservations so I gave them a call only to find out that they really don't take reservations and "if the restaurant is busy the longest you will have to wait it ten minutes." Ok, so no reservation needed. We arrived at about 6pm on a Friday evening and indeed, no reservation was needed. There was plenty of seating available in the dining room, but as it was a summer evening, and there was a concert setting up in the park across the street, we were not alarmed by the nearly empty space. My dad is a no frills kind of diner so we didn't order apps (he would rather save that space for the dessert on the other end of the meal). I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with a side Caesar, my husband ordered Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti, my dad ordered Chicken Parmesan with ravioli and my dad's wife ordered Chicken Marsala. For beverages it was waters all around. I had an Arnold Palmer and my husband had a diet coke. My dad commented that his water tasted horrible and we all thought he was nuts because our water, was, well, water. Nonetheless, he was the birthday boy, so we got him another glass of water. He said this one was the same, so I tasted it...I couldn't quite identify it, but it tasted a little bit like bleach and iodine. When we mentioned it to the waitress she told us that there is generally one glass at the table that is that way... REALLY?!? You average one glass per table of water that tastes like that and you don't try to resolve the problem? My salad was ok, nothing to write home about, but not bad. My fettuccine, however, really lacked any flavor or sauce. The Chicken Marsala ordered by my dad's wife turned out to be a pasta dish. I must say I have never seen Chicken Marsala served that way before. She too said that there was barely any Marsala sauce on her dish. After all was said and done with the entrees, I think the highlight of the meal was the Spumoni my dad had as his complimentary birthday dessert. Perhaps my hopes were too high when I had heard such rave reviews from so many friends about this restaurant, but it is doubtful that this is a restaurant I would go back to.

I was pleasantly surprised by this small-town Oregon Italian restaurant! Went for an early dinner with my 11 and 12 y/o daughters and we enjoyed a very nice meal with distinct flavors and some interesting takes on classic dishes. The bread they put out for us was warm and soft and, although a little salty for me, my daughters were disappointed I wouldn't let them go for a third serving. We dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar until our bruschetta came. This appetizer was very well done, with a nice pesto layer on crisp, diagonally-sliced bread, tomatoes and cheese, all meshing together well. My dining companions ordered fettuccine Alfredo and ravioli. The fettuccine was deliciously well-done! Sauce was very flavorful, nothing overpowering, balanced, and the noodles were excellent; just the right tenderness, al dente! The ravioli came in a rich bolognese sauce with the exact amount of spice to bring out the flavors and not overpower anything, or send us too quickly to the water glass. I sampled all of the above, but had a light appetite tonight, so went with the spinach salad and soup of the day. The tomato basil bisque was taasty and the salad was well done, with fresh spinach, a light dressing, perfectly laid on top, and delicious pickled onions, parmesan cheese, and some small slices of cured meat. All of this is matched with an excellent wine-list offered at very affordable prices. Will definitely return and I hope to award another star soon!

Independence doesn't have many restaurant options. This little Italian place is pretty good for the area. The service is slow but the food always taste good. They have a nice selection of food and you recieve bread on the table before the meal. We have ate here 5 or 6 times and have no complaints.

The food was very tasty. I had the Spicy Italian Shrimp. Great flavors and the other four guests agreed. Great service. Fine selection of local wines. We will be back in the future.

This restaurant is a great addition to Independence! I've visited 3 times in the last 6months and the food is always very yummy. I was super shocked by the affordability of the lunch specials! These are certainly a good deal. Generally our experience with the service is positive however the last time our waitress was disappointingly slow. I work in the food service industry so I'm very understanding but the place was almost empty by the time we got there. We even had to flag her down just to get the check which I hate doing. For this reason combined with the lack of privacy in the seating arrangement of the dinning room area I docked one star. Overall a great local place that offers something a little different than the other restaurants in town!

In the small pond of Independence, this is a four star restaurant, but I can only give it three in comparison with other choices within driving distance. Good wine. Good service. Reliable pasta.

We have dined here a number of times and have never been disappointed. We were one of their first customers, as they had been open for 2 days the first time we went. The service has always been attentive and well-mannered and the cost has always been reasonable. This last time I had the Carne Calzone and my wife had the Spicy Shrimp pasta. The calzone was good, the dough used was alright, not spectacular, the only calzone dough I've ever had that fitted that description was at Mazzi's (which used to have restaurants in Portland, Salem, Corvallis and Eugene being the original and only one left, I don't get there nearly as much as I'd like) . The flavors were well-defined, though the overall impression was a little too salty for me. The Spicy Shrimp was very good, with lively, fresh flavors. We usually get the Brushcetta for a starter, and have found to be the best we have had anywhere, so far (we try it whenever we find it on a menu), and it has inspired us to try making it at home. Two Italian sodas, and Lime Sorbet and Gelato for the sweet (an interesting combination of a scoop of Bourbon Pecan and a scoop of Chocolate) rounded out our meal. We very much like coming here, though the few patrons there on Friday night can't help but worry me. C'mon, Salemites, get off your collective keesters and drive west out of town for once!

What a great surprise in Independence! We went for dinner on a Saturday night and they were very busy, which slowed things some but was good to see, hopefully it continues! We ordered bruschetta, I had my regular fettucini alfredo and the husband had a seafood pasta. Both were very good, and all the seafood was cooked nicely. The bread they serve is fabulous, could fill up on that alone, and apparently it's made by Ovenbird Bakery down the street. I think you get way more than your money here. Once they get their liquor license we will definitely be back for a pizza and wine night, hopefully on the patio! Update: we went several times before moving out of town, and I miss this place! My only complaint would be the small lack of atmosphere, but the food is absolutely fantastic... I had seafood alfredo several times, with the fish, shrimp and scallops all cooked perfectly. Glasses of wine are practically fishbowl size and it's all local, some fantastic stuff.

Italian? Very expensive for very bland, no flavor food. 5 of us ordered and got different things, some of us compared, they tasted the same. Definitely NOT the Olive Garden! They lack flavor and service was awful. Not going back.

Well... it's Wednesday Lunch day and we headed for Independence, OR. We have been hearing about a new Italian restaurant there and wanted to try it. The atmosphere, nice, service excellent and the food... let me tell you! My husband had the Spicy Sausage and I had the Pollo Gorgonzola, it came with soup or salad and bread. The soup was unexpected. We have had ministrone in many Italian restaurants and the ministrone soup at Mangiare's, is hands down, the best! The sausage is what I remember when visiting my Italian relatives, in Pittsburgh, PA.. WOW! Not tasted Italian sausage that good, in a restaurant, in some time. The flavors of the dishes blended nicely. Fresh ingredients always a pleasure. Did I mention, the lunch is only $6.95. Pretty great we thought! Italian pasta... soup or salad and delicious fresh baked garlic bread. Meraviglioso!! We drove from North Albany and will be driving back, again and again! Great talking with you Liz... many happy years ahead for your business.

Nice Italian restaurant in Independence! Asteticly pleasing and good food. The Pollo alla Roma was delicious! Definitely would come back again.

Wow, this is a gem! I can't say enough about this restaurant. Great, friendly service and top notch food. This place would do very well in any major city. We sat on the patio for an early dinner and all had absolutely perfect meals with all fresh ingredients and very well balanced and delicate seasoning. Make no mistake, this is a destination restaurant and is easily worth a five star rating. I'd call it casual fine dining with reasonable prices. Do yourself a favor and make this a regular stop.

Come on, folks. Calling this humble neighborhood place a "5" says that it's as good as the French Laundry, Charlie Trotter's or other world class establishments. Compared to them, this is a "1", if that. But, compared to the sorry restaurant scene here in the Valley, it is a modest delight. Whoever is in the kitchen has been around good food. One can see that in the fresh bread, delightful balsamic vinaigrette, Al dente pasta and well prepared seafood. On the other hand, with just a few tables occupied, the waiter did not connect my request for a wine list with the probability that I might actually want to order some. And, as noted in other reviews, the main arrived in fast food fashion minutes after the salad arrived. I'm pretty sure that the entire butter dish fell into the Mangiare alla Casa that I ordered. Way, way too much butter. To put all of this in the context of rural Independence, Oregon, this place is the best in town and on a par with what can be found on every street corner in Rome. The "Tuscan" house wine by the glass was totally respectable table wine, the kind that would be served in a Mason jar in Tuscany. We will go there often but not get teary eyed about it.

I was very excited when this restaurant opened! I love simple Italian food. Spaghetti and ravioli etc. My wife had the one of the salads and was happy! Bread was good not great!

Maybe I was here on an off night? I don't know. My wife and I came here because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews this place received on yelp. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy my experience. I understand that we are in Independence and restaurants in small rural communities have their own challenges to overcome. With that said for some reason I ordered the carne calzone. I am not sure why but I should have known better since it is one of the most expensive items on the menu and its a calzone. Part of my thinking was that this must be the best calzone in Oregon! Unfortunately, what I got was very over cooked. The dough around the edges was inedible. It was hard as a rock. The sauce was super sweet and I believe that cheddar cheese was used inside. It was large, hard and flat. Needless to say I was disappointed. This may be my fault but I also assumed that soup or salad was included with the dinner. I feel like the waitress asking us if we would like soup or salad in the manner she did also led me to this conclusion. It was not included in the meal's price. I would also suggest that they lower the lights some. The brightness negates the mood lighting candles which could be pleasant in this older building. Finally, It is worth noting that my wife and I almost left when we first walked in because of the strong moth ball/laundry mat smell. It's an old building and it might be a good idea to address the smell. The experience wasn't worth the 70 bucks we spent. I feel like this isn't the same place that all the other reviewers are praising so highly.

Such great service. The atmosphere can go from casual to romantic depending on want you are going for. To top it all off the food is phenomenal. I would recommend anyone who is looking for great food at a good price to come here!

My husband and I have eaten here twice so far. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Both meals have been incredible! So far we've had their "pollo Gorgonzola", pasta with marinara sauce (best red sauce I've eaten ever!), chicken piccata (yum!)), and pollo ala Roma. We also had an appetizer -fried mozzarella balls which were huge and almost filled us up before we even had our meal. They also serve a basket full of garlic bread- be careful as you can easily fill up on this as well! I highly recommend this place. It's worth a visit or 5.
