OMFG! I deleted yelp off my phone over a year ago because there was nothing worth rating where we lived. I sat here n downloaded the app again just to rate how amazing this place is! We moved to Ashland recently and my daughter and I picked this place for our last luncheon before school starts. The bean dip was the best we ever had. Not just beans but other flavors pureed and enhancing the beans. I got steak fajitas that at first looked thin but the flavor was like walking a Mexican street market smelling all the coal n grilling meat. Addictive! The best part is my husband has a dairy allergy and they have a wide range of foods that are safe for him. This is our favorite place. Ever!

I don't even know where to begin. I went with two of my friends and the restaurant wasn't busy but they decided to put us all the way in the back where we felt like they forgot about us. Feeling that way is one thing, but they ended up actually forgetting about us. We ordered water and we had to ask the waiter twice to bring us our drinks. I ordered arroz con pollo. I should have stuck with tacos cause tacos you can't do wrong. Not everything is bad, margaritas are bomb. Let's be real how can you go wrong with tequila though. There is also a waiter there, whose name I can't recall, and he is always wonderful, funny and makes the experience fun! I can be bias cause I'm from the Bay Area and Mexican food there is well, like no other.

Good food, clean, very nice service.. Good family place.. We had the taco salad and a few other dishes and nothing was left on our plates.

L and I had a quick bite and margaritas before the theater We shared an order of the chicken nachos the serving was large enough that we had enough leftovers for our breakfast. The Grande Margaritas were very good.

I consider La Casa as the best mex in Ashland. If you can't make it on down to La Tapatia in Phoenix, or if you want more of a sit-down dining experience, then La Casa is for you. I agonize on the rating...it's above 3 stars, but not quite 4. The important thing to note is that if you are craving Mexican food, you're in good hands here. First to note is that LCdP has a truly Extensive menu, which also includes lots of seafood. I mean, an entire seafood section, for those that are looking to go that route. Don't underestimate the options there. One thing that puzzles me a bit is the prominence preponderance of mushrooms. It's in a lot of the entrees. Great if you are a fungus fan. Less great, if like me, you are not (particularly in your Mexican food...odd to me). My litmus test for good mexican is always the R&B (rice and beans) test. They pass glowingly, and the sides are yummy and not just garnish sides. I would recommend the Pollo a la Crema, if you're going chicken. I've had better moles, but theirs is a 'solid'. Service was super friendly. They do a good job here. Skip the other Mex options in Ashland, you've found the one.

Everything was delicious and tasted authentic. Festive clean restaurant. Reminded us of our favorite spot in the Bay Area. Excellent service. Sad to see negative reviews.

Only giving this star a one, because I have to put a star. What a horrible expierence I had at this restaurant. I ordered a burrito, and a side of sour cream. I found a hair, in my sour cream. The waiter immediatly took it back, and got me a new one. Not only did he do that, but discounted my food. However, my friend and I were splitting our ticket of $17.27... We were both charged $9... Coming to a total of $18... Honestly couldn't believe that. I will never return here, dirty and gross. Customer service needs extreme improvement.

The atmosphere was festive & very clean, the service was perfect, the food was fresh, hot and tasty - love those jalapeno peppers. The real gem was the owner! I called him the next day to report an error on the check. He pulled the visa transaction and said he would make the correction. True businessman! Our child is in college there for the next 4-5 years - La Casa Del Pueblo will be our "go to" place. Thanks.

Such great service and super friendly staff. The drinks were delicious and big and the chile verde was tender and good. The salsa had just the right amount of spice. I was really pleased with this find in Ashland.

Oh my goodness. This place is one of the worse Mexican food places I have ever been too. I'm not sure why but during the time I went to SOU, I tried this places a couple times. Even though every single time I was disgusted with what I got. It's not like it was a one time miss. Nope, every time I got something nasty. I suppose in Ashland Mexican food places don't have a lot of competition so that's how they stay in business. The prices are really expensive for Mexican food. I can say the restaurant was good as far as ambience and with big groups, and the waitresses were always nice and friendly.

I don't understand the negative rating some folks are giving this restaurant. I live in Ashland and have eaten here probably 1-2 times a week since the rstaurant opened, but I travel 4-5 months during the winter in the southwest and eat at many different Mexican resyaurants. There are certainly different styles of cooking and varied regions of origin, so I've experienced different tastes but none better than here at the Casa.

Great service, food was pretty good. I'm from a small town in California that has quite a few Mexican places to choose from. I'm well acquainted with what high-quality, authentic Mexican food tastes like. In short, the food here wasn't bad. In fact, my Enchiladas Rancheras was pretty tasty. However, after placing my order and getting my order to go, imagine my disappointment to get back to my hotel room to find no napkins or flatware in the bag. Kind of a bummer really. So, four stars if you dine in, but three's the best I can do for take out.

If you like spicy mexican food, are heading up I-5 and do not stop here for the chipotle chicken, you are missing out. Portion is large so we split with a couple of salads. Warning it is, very hot, and full of flavor. Muy Bueno We find that a dish of vanilla ice cream after the meal cuts the heat.

Every time I'm eating in Mexican restaurant I miss this one. By far it is the best. I drive from Bay Area to Portland twice a year and every time I anticipate stoping there. I didn't try everything there, but chips are the best, I like their salsa very much. I don't like too spicy of food so their chicken tortilla soup is just the best. Like, how can such a simple soup be so amazing? I cannot complain about service either - the servers are helpful and fast.

I was lured here by fellow yelpers (as a student the promise of free beans along with the chips and salsa was definitely one of the points.) However, I was horribly mislead. While I got over the almost jarred taste of the salsa, the beans were the most bland goo I've experienced. I turned to the menu, hoping for something a bit more enjoyable. It proudly informed me, "A Burrito is a soft Flour Tortilla stuffed with Beans or Meat that is smothered in a clear Red Tomato Sauce." The poor choice in capitalization usage first drew me in, in the way that "$1 taco's" signs do, until I reached the last few words. clear Red Tomato Sauce? Um, salsa? Salsa roja? I gave in, hopeful that was what they meant, and went for a vegetarian burrito. Well, that's what I get for getting my hopes up. It was definitely a mild clear tomato sauce. And on top of what resembled a wrap was chunks of broccoli, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and.... CELERY. CELERY ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The experience was not helped by the poorly themed decor and server who kept excitedly trying to use Spanish buzzwords. If you want a fun, family-friendly, terribly unauthentic themed restaurant, the casa delivers. But even remotely decent Mexican food? Run away screaming.

We absolutely LOVE this restaurant! We moved here 4 years ago and have been searching for good Mexican food (with no luck) until we found this place...amazing food, fast service, extremely friendly staff, very clean and good atmosphere. ( I almost hate to write this review because once people discover how good the food here is, I won't be able to get in the door :) Seriously..if you want the best Mexican food in Ashland or Medford..this is IT......and we have have tried them all!)

Before I begin, I would like to say that I am Mexican raised in Los Angeles. I am also a vegan (I know....very unusual). I am visiting Ashland and I came across this restaurant. I decided to try it and here is what I have to say: To begin the salsa and chips are not good. The chips are okay but the salsa tastes too much like tomato paste/sauce. I had to add Tapatio sauce to it. I then started asking questions since I am a vegan. Just to make you aware, some of their food is cooked with lard, so if you do not want to put lard in your body, ask. I mentioned to the waitress that I was a vegan and she was very accommodating in helping me find something to eat. She brought me a large plate with steamed veggies, a side salad, and black beans. All vegan. I really appreciated this. However, the taste was not very good. The veggies were okay the beans were not. Also, they do not warm up their tortillas on a comal. I believe they are microwaved - not okay. To be fair, I did not order anything straight from their menu. I asked them to modify the food but the chips and salsa are no excuse. You have to get the chips and salsa right. The last thing is they need to stop it with the Spanish speaking to gringos. It's not cute and it looks like they are kissing up. The bottom line, if there are not many options for Mexican food in Ashland, I would give it a try.

I have eaten at plenty of Mexican restaurants in both Mexico and across the states, and this is by far one of my favorites! We were warmly greeted, seated in a nice booth in their cheery restaurant and proceeded to have one of the most delightful meals in a long time. Strong and delicious margaritas. Tasty platos: I had a combination plate of chicken enchiladas en mole and a chile relleno. My mom had a chicken tostada and chile relleno. Both of us licked our plates clean! We were served a dessert fit for the Gods....sopapillas that were light and tasty. OMG. We were so happy! The waiter, Miguel, made our evening so wonderful. He was prompt, friendly, and fun to be with. We highly, highly recommend you come to La Casa!

Yeah, I have no idea how this has gotten good reviews...sorry. I asked for what was their best dish. The waiter looked like he didn't know what to say and pointed me to the specials for the day. That was not a real good answer since most specials are to use up ingredients in the kitchen. Then I asked if they made their tortillas, nope. Okay, expectations set. They microwaved the tortillas, the food was really some of the most boring Mexican food ever. I thought maybe it was me but others at the table agreed. Please know that I don't give many bad reviews. Maybe it's because I live in the Southwest but this really was not the place to eat. After we got done I was thinking how does a place like this stay in business with restaurants going under all the time.

My buddies and I were in Ashland on a mountain biking trip, staying at the Flagship Inn (that share a parking lot with La Casa Del Pueblo) and ate here on our last night in town. We were debating several different choices in town, but convenience at this moment played the biggest factor in our decision. We entered, immediately being warmly greeted and seated very quickly. Our server was super-friendly, not hesitating in refilling our chip basket as often as we'd like (six dudes who just finished riding all day, go figure). I don't think any of us were really expecting our expectations to be exceeded (if that makes sense), but they most definitely were. The food was all very good, not blown away, but completely what I would expect (and the only reason I'm not giving a 5-star... if we had been "blown-away," then a 5-star). Anyway, what I'm getting at was the service was so very good, incredibly friendly, helpful in whatever questions came his way, and extremely patient and understanding in us all wanting to pay separately. The service can easily make or break any establishment, and in this case, it made our night/dinner. Thanks so much! :)

As soon as you are seated they not only serve you yummy chips & fresh salsa, but they also give you a delicious little bowl of homemade refried beans.. You cant go wrong ordering here. Everything is good and for the most part very authentic. They even have a full bar. I have been here lots of times, mostly for breakfast. I have yet to be dissapointed... Try the Machaca con Huevos- heaven!! :)

In need of a quick lunch I swept into La Casa Del Pueblo iPad in hand. I was quickly greeted, and brought a delicious bowl of beans with chip as well as some of the house salsa. My entree was a two chicken enchilada lunch, as usual the portions were huge and the quality was very good. In-sat-served-out in less than 25 minutes. Back to work I go...

We stayed at the motel adjacent to the property and the aroma of simmering sauces was tantalizing as I sunned myself by the motel pool. We decided to have dinner here before seeing another play at OSF. The welcome at the door set the tone for a friendly and relaxed experience. The furniture is brightly painted, including the walls, which are adorned with individual scenes. T and I split an appetizer of ceviche. Small pieces of marinated snapper were a bit salty, but paired with the accompanying salad, it was a delicious first course. T's choice of chicken mole was good, but not great. I ordered the evening's special: a marinated skirt steak. Two big pieces of tenderized meat with the standard sides were mouth-watering in flavor. And, the beans were absolutely delicious. We are annual play-goers, so we will add this resto on our return-visit list.

I get the same thing every time I'm there: Arroz Con Pollo. It's just so darned tasty. Chicken pieces with mushrooms, in a tomato-based sauce, with spices, over rice. I've had some of the other menu items...and I think they're okay, I don't remember. Funny thing is that a friend of mine orders the Mole Polle every time he goes, b/c he loves that dish more than anything else on the menu.

No, no, no. I would not qualify the food here as "decent." The beans were gray and tasted sour. And no, I'm not exaggerating. Such a shame. Ashland needs a quality Mexican restaurant. Until a new one opens, I'll be traveling the extra fifteen miles to Habenero's in Medford.

4 of us Mexican foodies went here based on a Yelp review. This place prides itself on Jalisco seafood specialties. However the 'seafood' was horrible; the crab was fake & dyed, the 'scallops' were tiny, rubbery, tasteless. The steak was thin, tough, over cooked & also tasteless (even with lots of salt & canned, thin, salsa). The guacamole was super dark green & slimy, like from a pkg, also tasteless (even with salt, lime juice & watery onions). The seafood chimichanga was full of teeny canned shrimp & tiny, perfectely cubed vegetables (carrots, corn, PEAS) came from a frozen pkg. The chimichanga was soggy, not crisp, & the 'white sauce' had, you guessed it, NO TASTE whatsoever. This was by far the WORST dinner we've had in AGES.

I really really enjoy this Mexican restaurant. The staff is very friendly and fun. The food is pretty good, and at a good price. I also enjoy their refried beans that come with the chips. Mmm.

This casa is stuffed with cheap, decent, college-student-ready Mexican food. The menu is huge with every combination of basic taqueria combination plus a nice selection of chicken, beef, and fish restaurant-type main course dishes. Everything we've had has been simple and tasty. The spices are straight-forward and not complex. The chips may be bulk quality, but they are warm and fresh. The restaurant itself is clean, dark, and a bit more cozy than a Denny's (probably because of the dark light and friendly staff). This is definitely a place to eat, not dine. It's no destination restaurant. But it is good, reliable, and amply filling.

The only issue I have with La Casa Del Pueblo is the cookie cutter feel of the menu. If you go to the Mazatlan Grill in Central Point, Guadalajara or Si Casa Flores in Medford or that other place on the J'ville Hwy across from the old Thunderbird ... you get the identical offerings. Even the carpeting and upholstery are the same. But frankly that's just snobbery on my part. The fact is the food at LCDP is really good, and there's plenty of it (the oh-my-god-I-can't-believe-I-ate-that-entire-platter translation of 'plenty'). Their service is snappy, and their margaritas are damned near lethal. Oooh, and don't forget to order flan. You won't have room for it after your meal unless you have special powers, but they're happy to package it up for you in a pretty little clear plastic box to take home. Totally worth it. Trust me. Special note: Sunday has a two-for-one special: I think it's just on the combination plates, plus you're required to buy two drinks (even soft drinks qualify, though), but it's seriously one of the best bargain's in town.

  • Jessica V.

The reason the beans are the way they are here because of the lard mixed in, which is the traditional way of making them. This is the most authentic Mexican place I've found in Ashland. Margaritas are amazing and there are many options to choose from. Service is good and polite, although the wait staff hasn't been exactly fluent in English any of the times I've gone in (maybe this is why they make actual Mexican food!). Food always comes as ordered, sometimes with a bit of a wait but it's worth it for the amazing meals I've had! Very satisfied- great food, great prices! Not a special destination tourist place - but then, that's why I love it.

Although it was highly recommended by family members who live there, we found that the food was blah. The chips were crisp, but the salsa was bland and too tomato-y. The tortilla soup was basically a chicken broth without flavor. The Chorizo Fundido had none of the flavouring of a good chorizo, tasted like ground pork with salt, pepper, and something red. The flan was not creamy but had a nice flavour of cinnamon and whipped cream. The wait staff was friendly and personable.

Definitey some of the best Mexican food I have had so far in S. O.! They bring salsa and freshly cooked chips - and beans - to the table as soon as you sit down, rare for a town where you can be charged 10$ for two spring rolls that came right out of a freezer. I had the night's special, carne asada, and just the smell of the meat told me even before I started in that it had been done to perfection. The guacamole was also fantastic, and all the portions were generous. Try the super-nachos!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
