If you can't tell from all the reviews by now they are divided into two groups. Yay from the native Chinese and Nay from, well everybody else. I happened to be in the yay camp. We have had dinner there twice and the Chinese menu is great. The owners are older and I honestly don't think they care about the American crowd, better yet they probably don't know how to make a proper eggroll or Lo Mein. From what I can tell their Chinese customers are happy with what they are getting and that is sufficient for them. Which is kind of a shame. But I understand a small mom and pop business may not have the capability to please two distinctive tastes. The styrofoam plates bothers me too that's why we always order take out; plus there really isn't enough space for more than say four customers.

It's a pretty standard Chinese place, genuine Chinese food! Service was good. It was fairly priced.

Small but authentic. Only three tables in the shop. You have to not only call in advance to guarantee seats but also order in advance.

My friend and I ordered three dishes and none of them tasted good... I felt like the materials the restaurant used were not clean. And please don't say the taste here is from north part of China, gosh, the true taste is not like that way at all!!!!

Very authentic. Ate with some family friends. Amazing pigtail. Shrimp dish was spices but very tasty. Also had potato dish which was great. Pretty similar to Chinese restaurants in California. Reasonable price. Two separate menus. One menu is very authentic Chinese and it's in Chinese. The other one is typical American style Chinese (sweet sour chicken, Mongolian beef etc). Very small interior and all the utensils are essentially paper /plastic utensils. Presentation is 1 star but the food is 5star.

If you are looking for some American Chinese food or fancy tables and plates, this is not the place for you. I and my husband are both from northeast of China. We both love this place. The food here is authentic. The only reason that I rate one star less than perfect is they use plastic bowls and plates even for dine-in.

We were looking for a Chinese restaurant close to us. Chinese Bistro was not what we are looking for. Sauces were very (very) sweet. Glad it was inexpensive.

Run. Don't read anymore reviews... just look elsewhere for Chinese. This has to be the WORSE American Chinese food I have eaten. Luckily, nobody got sick. I swear we heard someone at the bar next door yell, " Don't do it!" The traditional Chinese food here may be 'the bomb', but it scares me that the Americanized food tasted like something bought frozen from Kroger's, which is the reason we stopped here, because we wanted to avoid that. I know places which cater to both the Americanized and traditional crowd, and they don't put quality to either one side or the other. **I don't understand why there was a lot of cinnamon inside of their egg-rolls. Is this traditional? I mean, I'm just totally confused. **Is Hot and Sour soup supposed to be brown and taste like garbage water? **Are the vegetables (broccoli, carrots, onions) suppose to be raw and really crunchy in the General Tso's? **Does the chicken have to be the same sized tiny strips, with breading that tastes freezer burn? **Do Chinese places normally serve their dine in guests with styro-foam plates? I mean, I'm just fucking confused, because if the above is how American-Chinese is supposed to be, then I don't think I really enjoy eating the stuff anymore Holy, Crap. PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! TAKE THE EXTRA FIVE MINUTES AND DRIVE DOWN SAWMILL!!

Absolutely authentic! Northeast taste! And Ms is a very nice person! I couldn't understand why someone would say she is rude.........

I couldn't find a single veggie in my lo mein or fried rice, save for some onions and bean sprouts. On top of that disappointment, the food was just bland. Their small dining area was full though, so maybe I'm just being too critical. Also, the owner was very pleasant when taking my order and cashing me out, so two stars for service.

The best northeastern Chinese food in Ohio I ever tried. Honestly, it's not for American people, coz it's not American Chinese food. But if you are Chinese, you want to tried northeastern Chinese food, here is the place you should go!

In short, this place is amazing! The best, most authentic northeastern Chinese cuisine I've had in Columbus. I don't know if American people would like the food there, but if you are Chinese, you just have to try this place. Things like are just a few examples of the many delicious options. The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is that you need to call ahead of time to make reservations for most of the dishes served there. However, it is totally worth it!

I really hate to give this place two stars, the service was outstanding, but the food was just awful. I've been wanting to find a non Pei Wei chinese place closeby that was closer than Hong Kong Buffet on Henderson, but I'm not having much luck. I had high hopes for this small hole-in-the wall shop, you wouldn't even know it was here unless you drove by it going to another business. I tried both the General Tso's and crab rangoon and both were pretty subpar. The owner/operator was pretty cool though. When I said it was my first time they gave me free hot and sour soup...which also wasn't that good. They were nice people and were really wanting to satisfy us, but the food was just way off...not the quality, just the taste.

As a Chinese who came from mainland China, I have to say China Bistro serves the best Chinese food in Ohio. No One could compete it! I mean it! I saw some idiots who said the food is aweful but I have to say they know nothing about Chinese food. Trust me you will never regret to have your lunch or dinner there.

I went here with my roommate for Chinese New Year. It certainly is a humble establishment, and I was suprised when I was served water in a styrofoam cup. However, food is (usually) way more important to me than atmosphere and decor. I ordered Cumin Beef from the Chinese menu on my roommate's recommendation-- absolutely delicious. It's spicy, beefy goodness served up with assorted vegetables and steamed rice in an enormous portion. I also had crab rangoon, which tasted like most other crab rangoon I've had at other restaurants. It was okay. I also tried some soup that was full of cabbage and pork-- it straight up tasted like cabbage juice and was awful, but my roommate (who is from the same region of China as the owners of the establishment) loved it. We ordered dumplings, too, since it was New Year, and I found them to be good, if a bit bland. I would definitely go here again for the Cumin Beef and the huge portion sizes.

This place has been added as a go-to place for lunch for my office. Similar to my review for Beijing, which is across Sawmill Parkway, China Bistro is an inexpensive mainly carry-out Chinese food place in the strip mall on Presidential Parkway off Sawmill Parkway. Prices are very reasonable ($6 to $8 range for most) and the food is a notch above the normal inexpensive carry-out type places. The sauces are just just all thick and brown sauces. They are more light and thin. The egg rolls have a touch of peanut butter and cinnamon and/or allspice in them and are awesome. One of the best I have had from inexpensive Chinese carry-outs. They now have a website, chinabistrocolumbus.com , and you can fax in your order. I faxed mine in, they called me to confirm, and when I arrived I was treated great. The lady mentioned in the other review is indeed a doll! She is very friendly and will make sure everything is just right. I have had the Hot and Spicy Shrimp, the Kong Boo Chicken, and my office-mates the General Tso's, and Pork Lo Mein. All were good and tasty. The General Tso's has a slightly different taste, party due to I think to the fact that they have Pancakes! I think they use a version of the pancake batter for the General Tso's breading. I don't eat white flour, but the pictures in the front window of the Panckaes sure look interesting. The pancakes are a savory dish, not a breakfast or dessert dish. Like the other reviewer said, this is not your typical Americanized Chinese menu, they do things a little different, which is great. Definitely will go many more times. Yes, the decor is spartan, but I'd rather have inexpensive good food than pay for decorations in this type of place.

No matter what, DO NOT GO THERE!!! The manager is extremely rude and will rush you to finish your meal and tell you to eat whatever they have, not what you order.

Last night was the 2nd time we've eaten at China Bistro, and once again we were delighted with our food. While I don't consider jalapenos and black pepper to be "normal" spices in Chinese food, they work! Everything we've had at China Bistro has been absolutely delicious and we've decided it's our new favorite take-out joint. And China Bistro is indeed a "joint". If you're looking for beautiful papered or faux-treated walls, don't go here. If you're looking for ambient lighting and soft background music, don't go here. And if you're looking for upscale seating and fine linens, don't go here. However, if you're looking for an outstanding meal in a utilitarian -- er, stark -- environment, you'll be quite happy with China Bistro. One note of interest: both times we've been here, the only other customers have been Chinese and Vietnamese; always a good sign in my opinion. The first time we went -- before their grand opening in late December 2010 -- we ran into Chinese friends there. We asked them if they recommended anything in particular, and they replied, "we're not really sure what to recommend to you; we ordered off the Chinese menu." So apparently there are at least two different menus here and if you can read Chinese (don't know which kind) you may get even better food than what we've gotten. The menu is not extensive, but it's definitely interesting. China Bistro offers the usual appetizers along with "Kabobs". They offer three soups: won ton, hot & sour, and seafood. The three "chief's specialty" offerings appear to be more Thai than Chinese, and a fourth specialty is potstickers. There are eleven (11) chicken or shrimp offerings (I recommend the Ma La Chicken - yum!) and seven (7) beef offerings, one of which is Sauerkraut & Beef Meatball Soup. I have to say, I've NEVER seen this offered in a Chinese restaurant before! We've not tried it yet, but you have to appreciate the variety available. :-) Worth noting: this restaurant is VERY generous with the meat they include in their offerings, and the chicken is white meat perfectly cooked -- no hidden dark meat to cut costs here. There are vegetarian offerings, Pad Thai and other rice/noodle offerings, and that's about it. Drinks are canned and in a vending machine. This is a very small operation and the lady who handles the register, phone and waits tables is a DOLL. She welcomes everyone with a radiant smile and makes certain you're happy with the service and the food. I limited the rating to three stars because the ambiance is, as I said, stark and utilitarian, but the food is outstanding -- if I were rating on food alone, it would earn the five-star (or higher if it were available). We will be frequent patrons at China Bistro. (I will post pictures soon.)

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
