Stopped by on a Saturday right before close after a day full of King's Island. I've been suffering from withdrawal after being out of Dayton for so long. I felt bad since it was just before close, so we ordered our large to go. Now, I won't say this is the best pizza in the world. But it's very unique and extremely addictive. Thin crackery crust, wall-to-wall toppings, and pieces the sizes of postage stamps. And whatever you do, please get the sausage - the tiny, ground up pebbles covering your pizza with just the right amount of spice. For those who don't understand the two lines, a brief explanation: this restaurant is based on the same exact style that they have always been (since the sixties). People who truly enjoy Marion's love it as a nostalgia thing - if it were to change, there would be riots all over Dayton. Just be glad they at least accept credit cards now... That only happened just within the past few years. I will say it's not for everyone. And it's not the greatest pizza ever. But I would definitely choose it over most others any day of the week.

We really liked Marion's the times we have gone. I can see what people are saying in the other reviews but I wouldn't really put Marion's in the same bucket as other pizza places. I don't consider this traditional pizza based on where I am originally from but it is tasty in its own way and their location is nice. Give it a try and see what you think of it. It is definitely better than the 2.5 stars it is averaging on yelp.

Indistinguishable from Donatos. It's ok, just basic thin pizza. Nothing unique at all. Interior is bland but the color scheme is tacky and poorly conceived. This place is dead every time I drive by and B-Dubs across the street is always packed. I don't understand how this place is going to make it??

It was fine - not amazing pizza. Just okay pizza. I just can't get truly behind a pizza that has canned toppings. Seriously, it's not that hard to cut some mushrooms, onions and peppers. It didn't taste like anything. Very bland. And the whole line system doesn't make sense. It's just a jumbled mess and 2 too many steps. Why can't you just pay for your drink, when paying for your pizza and they give you a ticket for it? I'm not from Dayton, so I wasn't impressed.

This was definitely a different experience!! First time to Marion's after working in Dayton for 10 years and hearing how great it is! So my first time is definitely my last! Less than average food and a Chuck E Cheese service environment. I am not looking for 5 stars, but I felt like I was eating at the softball field. Sorry Marion's. You missed the mark!

I'd eaten Marion's up in Dayton when I was a kid and I LOVED it. My cousins and I would run rough shod over the place like the little hellions we were while our folks sipped beers in the corner. Back then EVERY pizza was an amazing taste treat and Marion's was super special because it's very kid friendly. What a difference a few decades makes. This place is for the kids. Realize that going in and you'll be fine. The pies aren't really all that great. As other reviewers have noted, the buying your drinks and food separately is a huge annoyance. But it's huge with seating and parking for several baseball/soccer/pee wee football/etc. teams at once and they have a game room so you can throw a hand full of quarters at the kids and cut 'em loose. One exception... sour kraut on pizza. SOUR. KRAUT. ON PIZZA. It's amazing. This is one thing that they really do right here. We live in a town with DEEP German roots so why is nobody else doing this? The kraut is the PERFECT foil to the fatty meats you get on pizza. The acidity cuts through and lets more flavor hit you right in the tongue! I know, I know. it sounds gross but if you find yourself here to celebrate your nephew's birthday or after your daughter's soccer game or whatever get a pie for the adults that is loaded with some meats and sour kraut. Trust me. After you try this you'll be begging your local pizzeria to start carrying sour kraut as a topping which means you won't have to put up with Marion's to get it anymore.

Not really worth taking the time to write a detailed review. Bad pizza. Bad setup (one line to order food and a seperate line to order drinks). No decor/atmosphere inside. They give you the tiniest/cheapest paper plates to go with your pizza...the kind that cost 89 cents for a pack of 100. Disappointing.

Cool looking exterior...that's where the positives end. Interior is like a school cafeteria. Pizza is pre-assembled, sitting on racks waiting for someone to order it. Pizza came out slightly warm with little or no flavor. It is pricey and the most annoying part of the meal is having to pay separate for your drink. (2 credit card transactions within minutes of each other) Whoever thought this was a good idea should be on Monster right now looking for employment. If I'm marooned on an island and my only source of nourishment is Marion's....I will take a pie and attempt to use it as a weapon, flotation device, or bartering tool with the natives. The natives will most assuredly hate it as well, and then come find me for revenge!

GREAT thin-crust pizza!! If you like thin-crust, you MUST try this. Don't let the lack of cars in the parking lot fool you. This is a large restaurant and very nice inside. Place your order at the counter and the server brings it to you. Since it's thin crust, you will have your pizza in about 10-15 minutes or less, so a good option for lunch, too. Lots of beer choices, too, from draft to 'get it yourself' bottles in the frig. Try it! You'll like it!!

If you are a fan of a crisp cracker crust pizza, you will like it. If you prefer a thin limp crust, you will be more at home with Cinci's popular large local chain.

I've had a number of people recommend Marion's. I commonly would hear, "I love Marion's pizza!" from people. So, after all this time, we decided to go. Wow! What a disappointment. I'm not sure what I expected, but I can say that I did expect more of a restaurant. When I walked it, I immediately felt like I was in a pizza place/cafeteria in Disney World or some other random amusement park. Four reasons I felt this: Seat yourself, pizza order and pay at one counter, drink order and pay at a completely separate counter and the PA system calling out your number as your order is ready. So, we order our pizzas and I pay for them. Then we walk over and order our fountain drinks and I pay separately for them. I will say that they have a decent selection of bottled/canned and fountain beverages as well as bottled beer/alcoholic beverages and beer on tap. You seat your self at tables in large open seating areas that have a cafeteria feel. It's not a bad thing, it just is what it is. I had a small salad with their house/Italian dressing. Nothing special but not bad. Then, "223" was called over the PA and I went to the counter to pick up my pizza. As soon as I saw it, I had a very good idea of what it was going to taste like. I'm not saying it was bad. It just wasn't great... or even very good. It was just... good enough I guess. Here's the deal; I've noted in other reviews of mine that being from Chicago admittedly makes me a pizza snob. I am. However, I'm not afraid of giving pizza a chance though. Marion's pizza was just as good, if not a little better, as a Totino's frozen pizza cooked in the over (as opposed to the microwave). It really wasn't anything special at all. The confusing thing about all of this is how many people tell me how much they like it. I'm not sure what else to say about Marion's. It is what it is. It's crap pizza but good enough to say for a birthday party or a soccer team get-together. They also have free Wi-Fi if you really want to use it. Would I go back? Not willingly. I mean, if someone was having a party there and I was invited - then sure. But that's only because I'm not rude. Other than that, I'M OUT! There's a decent little Indian place right across the street (see forthcoming review for Raja).

While the price point on my 1/2 sandwich was nice, the taste was not at all great. I got half a meatball sandwich for $3.xx and a pitcher of Pepsi for $4.xx. I also took home a pizza for my husband and he said it was OK. The place is huge, ample space and lighting. You can call ahead to reserve tables if needed. I don't think I will be going back. No refills on drinks unless you pay full price, plates and plastic eating utensils aren't readily available, you have to ask for them.

I'm giving this two stars just to be nice. The pizza is terrible... no matter how nostalgic you are over loving this place, it is terrible. As I read the comments comparing this to Larosa's, which generally would be considered the absolute worst pizza on the planet, it makes me realize that many people have no idea what pizza is supposed to be... especially when they compare it to NY style pizza (which, btw, Dewey's is NOT lol). I do feel bad they built quite a palace here and despite following the Field of Dreams mantra of "if you build it, they will come", their recipe has failed miserably here in Mason. The huge restaurant is almost always completely empty while next door BW3s has a wait for their below average food. Whether it is just the self-serve model or the deplorable pizza, this just isn't working. Sorry, you can always go back to original locations up North if you are feeling nostalgic because this place won't be here much longer.

This is definitely one of the happening places in town, and there always seems to be a crowd. Came here with my family to check it out. It was packed on a Thursday night at 6pm. We tried the pizza and salad. The salad was pretty bad. It tasted like it came out of a package and the Italian dressing was too sour. The pizza was ok but not great for the price. I had green peppers, mushrooms, and banana peppers on mine, and everything tasted fresh. I would say that it could have used a little more sauce, but overall the pizza was decent. It was kind of annoying that you have to wait in a separate line for drinks, and they don't give refills on soda which I find crazy for a casual pizza place. There were definitely a lot of children here -- people hosting a birthday party in the back, kids running around screaming. This place seems like an ok place to have a family dinner with mediocre food, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.

My first, and only, visit to Marion's was at the insistence of co workers who attended the University of Dayton. I honestly don't see the big draw for it. The place is very large and can easily accommodate large groups. The pizza however is nothing special. It's not gourmet like Dewey's nor Chicago style, New York, style etc. It's just basic pizza. The price point is also a bit higher that I would have expected. The only reason I can see to recommend Marion's is if you have a large group of people. You'll see many birthday parties, high school sports teams, etc eat at Marion's.

Not a fan of the one line for food and one line for drinks, especially if you pay by credit card. We knew this going in from previous reviews and this is one if the reasons we had not gone here yet, but it still felt weird. The pizza is thin crust and cut into little squares, which was a plus. There are not a ton of topping options. Basic pizza toppings. We ordered two pizza. It was not crowded for a Friday night and there were a lot of dirty tables. The pizza was done quickly. The sauce is bland and the mushrooms are canned, which is not a plus. The crust tasted like it was precooked was and then the toppings were added. I know there are plenty of people who like this pizza, but we are not fans.

I have no sentimental connection to the Dayton area, so I wasn't sure what to expect when I came here. My conclusion, though, is that more people south of Dayton should give this place a chance. The pizza is good, but I think that what I enjoy the most is the unpretentious atmosphere. The cafeteria-style ordering is straightforward (really not a hassle), and the food comes out quickly. Also, the staff members are polite and efficient in removing plates from the table. For a local family dining experience, it's priced better than LaRosa's, and the food is more delicious. Unlike most places, everything that comes with olives on the menu includes a generous portion! (Fellow olive-lovers: I recommend the deluxe dinner salad and vegetarian pizza.) My only complaint about the pizza is the way that they cut it into small squares...I'm not sure why they do that. It's a friendly local pizza chain--give it a try!

We were just looking for a quick bite before a movie and thought why not try it. I was overwhelmed the second I walked in the door, I mean this place is HUGE. It also includes a game room, which I'm sure for kids is great but oh my...it's THAT type of place. First, there was no direction in how to order. There are 3 different stations - a bar, a carryout, and a dine in. You had to order from one line, then stand in another to get a drink. Seems a little disorganzied to me, and time consuming. The menu seemed pretty simple and we wanted to try the Hoagy's versus the pizza, which maybe this was our mistake for not getting what they are supposedly known for but how hard is it to make a hoagy? Apparently super hard. I got the meatball hoagy and the boyfriend got the steak hoagy. We unwrapped the paper wrapping and I have never been so dissapointed in my life. It didn't even seem like real meat. Not that I was expecting a gourmet cooked dish from the place but would it kill ya to use real ground beef? The meatballs (if you can call them that) had a grey tint to them and were thinly sliced vs being round meatballs. The steak hoagy was just a frozen patty and the sauce was awful. Very disappointing, and we will never go back.

A Dayton classic for years finally comes South to Cincinnati area. Best thin/crispy pizza around. Pricey but worth it. None of the Dayton locations take credit cards but this location does. Drinks have to be purchased separately from food. I think it has something to do with their liquor license. No free refills on soda.

We tried Marion's Piazza this evening and we won't be going back. The pizza is thin crusted and very cheaply made. The dough is pre-made and you get a sprinkling of cheese and sauce (that you cannot taste) as well as whatever toppings you order. The pizza was way over priced for the quality and somewhat bland in taste. This place is like a Movie Theatre concessions atmosphere combined with a Chucky Cheese atmosphere. You can literally buy all sorts of movie theatre style candy (Raisinettes, Goobers etc.) while you go through the food line like at a movie theatre concession stand. Drinks are ordered separately at a totally different counter and they are priced just like at a movie theatre! The place is loud with tons of people sitting around cafeteria style. My wife commented that we could have went to Longhorn Steakhouse for the exact same money we spent here to feed four people. Think high priced quickly made cheap pizza in a cafeteria style churn em in and churn out environment.

Marion's Piazza first opened in Dayton, Ohio over forty-five years ago, and they have since expanded to a total of nine locations. I ate at its newest location in Mason, a northeastern suburb of Cincinnati. Marion's first restaurant in Dayton served as somewhat of a trailblazer by offering seating for over two hundred people in its dining room at a time when most pizza places only offered carryout, and their restaurant in Mason continues this tradition by having a very large seating capacity. Additionally, the decor fits with Marion's original goal of bringing an Italian piazza, or courtyard, inside to provide the feel of an outside dining experience throughout all months, no matter the Midwest weather. The pizza at Marion's Piazza has a thin crust that is supposedly referred to as "Dayton-Style Pizza." I really enjoyed this crust as it was crispy but not charred and had just the right amount of cornmeal on the bottom of it. I was also intrigued by their cutting of the pizza into very small, almost bite-sized, squares as this made it very easy to convince myself to just have one more slice on several occasions. Additionally, their pizza has a different texture than most, and I felt as though the sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and sausage on my pizza all melded together to create one singular taste - like a hotdog of pizzas. Overall, I enjoyed the thin, and not too filling, pizza served at Marion's Piazza, but I can't say that it offers quite as much flavor as pizza at other restaurants.
