Love this place, so cute....reminds me of Mayberry. Good food!

Food is average; nothing special. Very affordable with some great breakfast specials. Service wasn't the best probably because there was only one server on duty so I don't blame her. My biggest complaint is the cleanliness. I'm not referring to tables that haven't been bussed or crumbs on the floor from the meal time rush. I'm talking about grime in the corners and behind equipment; a greasy run-down kitchen. This place needs a thorough cleaning and renovation. It's a shame because the place is in a great location and there's a lack of competition in the casual, family restaurant category. Unfortunately, cleanliness will have me avoiding this restaurant.

So you show up in a small town on there on main street is a small family owned diner. Score. The motif is retro 50's with a big gas pump in the window. Lots of car stuff hanging on the walls. Place is packed and you are greeted with a warm smile. So far so good. Unfortunately, it kind of ends there. The waitress came over to take our orders. So I asked if the corned beef hash was homemade. Caned. Biscuits surely have to be homemade right, small town, family owned diner...nope, frozen. Okay, well country fried steak? Hand dipped and fried golden brown...nope, frozen. So, apparently in a small town with a family owned diner you can get eggs. Aside from that it is frozen, canned or boxed. So, price was fine, the service was good and atmosphere was cool, I just cannot recommend unless you are in a pinch or don't mind the lack of love.

As we sat and waited and waited for our food, we realized the 50 stands for how long it takes to make eggs. This will be our last visit here. The table was washed with a filthy rag and not dried as we were directed to sit. Our order was taken quickly and drinks came right out, but that was the last efficient thing that happened. While waiting we had plenty of opportunity to see that the staff's idea of washing their hands was running them under water for 5 seconds and not using soap. When our food finally arrived it was not good. I had french toast that must have intermingled with bacon grease. My daughter had hash that didn't look like any hash I've ever seen. Our waitress didn't offer to get us refills on drinks or replacement napkins for the ones we used to dry off the table. The food is sitting like a lump in my stomach. I truly have never eaten a worse meal. Very disappointing from how this restaurant was run when we first moved into town many years ago.

Looking for a quick meal in a low key setting, we stopped at Nifty Fifty as a family based on the positive reviews we read online. We found it to be just OK - standard diner fare, nothing special. It lacked the "nifty" ambiance we were seeking; it wasn't the fun 50s diner we hoped for. We agreed we wouldn't dine there again but we were in and out in under 40 minutes, and that was our primary goal.

Great breakfasts at excellent prices. We always eat here when we are in town.

I love Nifty Fifty's, it's a true family owned place, with home cooked food. I'm primarily a breakfast person & it is tasty & reasonable.
