Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

****BEWARE**** This place robbed us!!!!! They charged us $20 for food for two people: two egg rolls and two meals: one order of Chicken Fried Rice and an order of Sesame Chicken with White Rice (Broccoli added). However, the driver only gave us the two egg rolls, and an order of Sesame Chicken with Fried Rice instead of the two meals we ordered! I tried to call them back to remedy it, but when I told the people on the phone - who barely spoke English at all - that there was some kind of misunderstanding, he accused me of "not explaining myself clearly" EVEN THOUGH THEY CHARGED US FOR THE TWO MEALS THAT WE ACTUALLY ORDERED. I insisted they bring the other meal and the white rice which they had already accepted my money for, but they said I needed to pay them to come back, and then they hung up on me! I called them back, and they hung up on me again! In short: EXPECT to get your order grossly misunderstood and to be charged inappropriately. I am out $10 and my friend is starving. Choose somewhere decent, like King Wok

If I could give a lower rating I would! (READ THIS FULLY, ESPECIALLY THE ENDING)!!! I always bought from this place and never expected a lot out of it because it was so cheap. It is your typical greasy and flavorless Chinese food. It has large portions of food for the price but the food is tasteless. I bought from them at work a couple of times in the summer of '13 and then when I tried to order the summer of '14 they claimed it was too far. I wasn't mad and understood even though I explained to her that wasn't the case the year before. I understand things changed so I wasn't mad about that just a little disappointed. As for the customer service every time I called for delivery she would yell everything and was always in a rush. I understand they were probably busy but this happened every time I called! She would also put me on hold before or while I was ordering (which is actually her only putting the phone facing down on the counter and not actually pressing the hold button) and she would then blatantly answer other phone calls and take other people's orders, while I WAIT!! They always seemed mad and when the delivery man would come by to give the food he looked really annoyed and would put my bag of food on the floor of the porch. Service is extremely poor and not accommodating at all!! THE BIGGEST REASON I AM LEAVING THIS REVIEW IS BECAUSE I FOUND A dead BUG IN MY FOOD!?! (It was probably a mosquito or fly but it was at the bottom of my lunch special, honey chicken, and I only saw it after eating almost my entire meal!!) I have stopped eating and ordering from them and the sad thing is I was a regular customer.

The authentic Chinese menu they have is very good. I lived in Beijing for 6 months and fell in love with real, non Americanized Chinese food ( though I enjoy them both). It became my comfort food. I recently found out China Food offered an authentic menu and was ecstatic. I've gotten a number of dishes and it brought me back to Beijing. I am moving soon and plan on having a couple take out nights before I move.

Delivery is always great. Always a large portion, even with the lunch specials, it definitely hits the mark for cheap chinese delivery. I love the chicken egg foo young!

I'd like to start this review by stating that the number of stars given is not a reflection on the food but the service. I have ordered from this place a few times and have been very satisfied by the quality of the food as well as the ample vegetarian options that are available. I also enjoy the fact that they deliver and are very quick in their delivery times. However, the last two times that I have ordered I have come across a very rude individual working there that was in a big hurry. So much so that he did not have the courtesy to go over my order and make sure that everything was pure vegetarian when asked. Being a vegetarian and having eaten at restaurants like this one for many years, I have learned to confirm everything on my order so that there is no meat that is accidentally included in my order. I was very put off by my experience today. The quality of the food and the prices are what keep me coming back, and I will consider reordering from here in the distant future. If things change, I will be more than happy to update my review.

My boyfriend discovered China Foods and got me to order several meals from there before I asked him to try a new Chinese food restaurant that delivers. This place does the same friend rice, starchy, gloopy sauce covered meats you can get on every corner. And by the time the food gets to my apartment (in a timely manner, no complaints there) I'd forget what I ordered and could never tell by taste which number on the dinner menu I ordered. But the portions are large, the friend rice is good and the delivery is fast. I'd say try your options.

Good for generic, fried chinese food. That's what you expect from a place called "China Foods" and that's what you get! And they're quick. Have never dined in. Good general tso, sesame chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. Large portions.

food = 3 stars. the fact that they are the only delivery place dwntwn that i know of (please let me know if i am mistaken, yelpers) = 5 stars. overall = 4 stars. hot and quick delivery. crab rangoon and hot and sour soup are excellent. sweet and sour chicken is ok.

Went for a quick bite ordered the black peper chicken, which by the way is simply the grenn pepper chicken with pepper on top. Same dish! Little to no chicken! The service was rushed, the person who brought our food to the table had no idea what she was holding. Every time she came out with food she returned to the kitchen to find out what it was she was dropping at the table. I will not be returning. The second star given was only because the mummy was being played on the television.

I love China Food!! My boyfriend and I are regulars here. I'm not sure what the mixed reviews are about... I will say I've only ordered delivery from here once and wasn't too impressed. So maybe don't get delivery?? Every time I have eaten in (which is usually at least once a week, let's be real...) the food is hot and delicious. The value is incredible! I highly recommend the dinner combinations. I usually get the country bean curd, which is fried tofu and mixed vegetables in a garlic ginger sauce. The dinner combos come with soup, an egg roll, and your choice of rice. It is A LOT of food and somehow it's only $6.45?? Seriously? I feel like I'm stealing from them. Ah-maze-zing. Also, you know this place is a hidden gem when it has two menus - the "American" Chinese menu and the "authentic" Chinese menu. I haven't been adventurous enough to try something from the authentic menu, but I really want to. Here is a bonus as well - they have their own parking lot, so you don't have to deal with street parking like most other places close to campus.

You get authentic Chinese food here ...... Ask for the authentic Chinese menu ... They do not ask for spice level so be ready to for the spicy food ... Overall good place

I went here once and never went back.. the service was fine, but the food was pretty terrible.. and it takes a lot for me to say that. I ordered the egg drop soup as an appetizer and it was basically just eggs mixed with corn syrup. It was sooo thick and goopy that I asked to have the hot and sour soup instead, but it was equally starchy and I could not eat it. I ordered a seafood/vegetable entree with rice and I got the same reaction.. the sauce was salty and very starchy like the other food and I could tell that the food was not fresh at all.. I might as well have gone to the closest mall and had Chinese food from the food court. I will not come back again and wouldn't recommend this place.

I've finally learned my lesson. Everything they delivered was inedible. Just awful. 2 bites then straight to the trash. I started with low expectations as I have been a long time customer and knew that the food quality has been slipping quite a bit. However, this delivery was just garbage. They really do not give a damn. I wish I had given my $20 ( somehow 2 lunch specials $5-6 a piece ended up costing $20) to an establishment that cares about their customers. We're done.
(1)Kimberly G.
I've never had a bad experience with this restaurant. The delivery is always quick, portions are always good, and it's always hot. It's reasonably priced as well, so it's win-win.
(5)Lauren S.
Great place they have delicious egg rolls and dishes the service is great and they are accommodating!
(5)Bobby B.
I would have given this place 4 stars but it gets 3 for the following reasons. I ordered the hot and sour soup, steamed dumplings, and szechuan chicken. The delivery time was pretty good, around 20-30 minutes. The hot n sour soup was okay, a little bland. I think they need to add a little more vinegar to it. The steamed dumpling were really good. The szechuan chicken was pretty good but there was hardly any chicken. I had to dig around the veggies just to find chicken. I was very surprised because my roommate's dish was loaded with chicken. If I was given more chicken with my meal it would have definitely have gotten 4 stars. I will probably give them another chance because it was better than King Wok and other chinese places around Clifton.
(3)Jon R.
No, this place is very good for a chinese food place. Get these items and you will not be disappointed: Orange Chicken, Sesame Chicken Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Crab Rangoon, Steamed Dumplings. Don't get the beef teryiaki appetizer.
(5)Katie F.
The best, authentic Chinese in Clifton. They always have coupons and they never go un-used!
(4)Angela C.
Why, Angela, why, you may ask. Why would you give four stars to this seemingly dingy Chinese restaurant randomly sitting in the intersection of McMillan, Fairview, and Ravine? Where a random lady might roll in and say loudly, "Hey, y'all got them Chinese donuts?!" I could be crazy, maybe. Maybe. Here's a secret: ordering off the special Chinese section of the menu. There are not many places in Cincinnati that I know of where I can order pork and bamboo shoots- like the for real Chinese kind with the bamboo shoots that are... well, literally, shoots. None of that chopped/sliced nonsense. And they will make it spicy for you if you ask. Also, the Shanghai thick noodle is allegedly made from their own homemade noodles (from their appearance, I am assuming they are hand-pulled). Really tasty. We've never really ventured to ordering the Americanized Chinese dishes and probably never will. Ok, fine, caveat: this probably is most fairly a carryout/take-out review. This is our go-to when we want cheap, somewhat greasy Chinese. I'm sorry, but some days I just really enjoy it. We only dined in the restaurant once a couple years ago, and it has all the trimmings of a Chinese restaurant that was actually fancy in its heyday but has faded a bit due to lack of dine-in customers, which really is too bad. Either way, they are still getting by, and for that, I am thankful! In sum, this isn't a 4 stars for some fancy, lovely dining experience. It's a 4 stars for having some real Chinese food, non-fancy and satisfying in a way only this kind of Chinese food can be. I guess for the type of expectations I have for China Food, it is a 4. You might not agree with my stars, but you should still check them out for carry out sometime. Shanghai thick noodles!
(4)Jessica S.
I'm not a fan of Chinese food; in fact, it's probably at the bottom of the list of ethnic cuisine for me. However... I actually really enjoyed China Food! I ordered delivery for my boyfriend and I; they said it would take 30 minutes, but they were definitely at my apartment in less than 20. For two big dishes and two containers of rice, it came to $16 - pretty decent price given how much food we got. For someone like me who generally dislikes Chinese food (a LOT) to give a Chinese restaurant 4 stars must mean this place is good. Give it a try!
(4)Elizabeth H.
Terrible! I ordered delivery, which took over an hour. I ordered the tofu and vegetables and my friend ordered general tso's chicken. Both dishes were terrible. We got fried rice. I am not a fan of fried rice to begin with, but on top of that it was super dry and extra salty. My dish had no flavor. It tasted like all they used was a massive amount of soy sauce. I threw my lunch away. I will not be getting food from here again.
(1)Jeremy B.
In my stomping grounds of Clifton, I limited myself to King Wok because it was closer. I always liked it, and the lunch special couldn't be beat, but after years of getting it pounded into my head that China Food was better, I gave in. I am not sure I got the meal from the same place as everyone else. While the food was decent, it was far from superior to King Wok(which is pretty standard for Chinese) and I was pretty disappointed in the Crab Rangoon. Crab Rangoon can make or break a restaurant for me; this time it broke the restaurant. It's not like it's bad, but there was nothing that would make me ever choose it over King Wok again.

In no unflattering terms, this is place a real oddity. Situated as a stand alone restaurant well out off the main row of restaurants near UC and with a name that's as unimaginative as it gets, China Foods somehow manages to be the best Chinese joint around campus, if not much of Cincinnati proper, and I mean this in very relative terms. If I was to hold it to higher standards, I just might tear them a new one, but since authenticity is in such short supply here, China Foods gets some quick and easy bonus points. Sorry Queen City- best Chinese in Cincinnati still doesn't say much. Still, like others before have said, having a menu in Chinese towards the last few pages was a big plus, and if you play your cards right, you can probably end up with a fairly satisfying meal at a reasonable price. For those who can't read Chinese, there are also English translations. The space itself is clean and everything seems rather new. I was glad that the place lacks the telltale decorations found at most Chinese restaurants here that make me feel like I'm stuck in the early 90s. We had the peking style ribs which is a closer approximation to what sweet and sour pork actually should be, although it is a dish in it's own right. As far as I'm concerned, its ok to blur those lines here and China Foods does a decent rendition- a slightly sticky sweet and tangy sauce with fried pork chops that are lightly battered. We also had the shredded pork with bamboo shoots, which was pretty fragrant and full on with flavor with a good medley of mushrooms, spring onions and nice big thick cut bamboo shoots. To round out the meal, we also had what I guess would translate to stir fried thick rice noodles with a "broken egg" gravy. The shrimp that came with it were nice and large and surprisingly fresh (by which I really mean not old tasting, which seems the rule rather than the exception around these parts). All in all, it's not nearly the best nor the most refined, but it's a good standby that's near campus and serves up some pretty okay comfort food for the the homesick Asian.

This place somehow has a pull over me when I want Chinese food and I'm too lazy to cook it myself. My friends and I went here one time after trying both King Wok and Red Pepper. So from that you should have figured our expectations were quite low. But this place definitely is better than both of them combined. I like the fact they have a Chinese menu in Chinese. I'd say the kicker for me is that the food actually smells like normal Chinese food and not the bland Americanized version. It's not anywhere near the best Chinese food I've had but for this area, for the price, and for its easy access for when I'm busy it's not too shabby either.

China Food was described to me as having the best Chinese food in the area when I moved here. Coming from the East Coast to Cincinnati, there is a stark contrast in terms of "best" when it comes to Chinese food. Their menu is large. Between appetizers, chicken, pork, seafood, and vegetarian options, there are plenty of choices. The food is good, but certainly not great or worthy of such a high distinction of "best." I had mixed reactions with several specific food choices. The sweet and sour shrimp was leaking out of the container it came in when I got it delivered. The taste was ok, but nothing fantastic. They lack a pu-pu platter, which is frustrating when you want a little bit of everything. Their appetizer menu does offer good choices to make your own though. The crab ragoons are recommended as well as the beef teriyaki. And I personally liked their pot stickers (my date did not care for them.) Their pork fried rice is very very good though. For one person ordering, this food is really expensive, especially if you get it delivered. There are coupons in the Bearcat Coupon Book - but usually you need to order at least 15 dollars to get free delivery. The delivery charge is around the $3.50 range. However, if you are ordering with more than one person - it's a pretty good deal. I suggest just driving to the restaurant (there is plenty of parking) and going the take-out route. Their drivers aren't the best and like I said, the delivery charge is somewhat outrageous. China Food is good. And the food is as close to authentic as you're going to get here in the midwest. But your wallet may be quite a bit lighter if you're alone and just wanting a quick Chinese fix.

I've been searching for good Chinese takeout in Cincinnati for ten years now. I'm going to keep looking. I have had lunch in the China Food dining room a few years back, and wasn't terribly impressed. I thought I'd try again recently, and it was WORSE than I remembered. I had a combination fried rice, and a hot and sour soup. It was the worst hot and sour soup I have ever had. The combo fried rice was bland, and the chicken was very fatty. The staff was very friendly, but I'm afraid that isn't enough for me to go back.
(1)Aaron P.
Ordered spring rolls, Rangoon, and chicken and broccoli with bean sprouts for delivery. Delivery was right on time, but the food was mediocre. Not terrible, but nothing I will remember.
(1)J K.
My friends and I stumbled onto this restaurant when we first moved to Cincinnati. We were driving aimlessly in the rain, randomly choosing to turn right or left at each intersection when we saw "China Food." Finding the generic name to be somewhat comical, we decided to give it a try. China Food may be the best Chinese food that I've had in Cincinnati, with the emphasis on the "in Cincinnati" qualifier. Their extensive menu is actually quite impressive, and for the money that you pay, you can't really complain. Come in with tempered expectations and you won't be disappointed.

Good food. Good place. Nice portions. Cheap. Nothing fancy or special.

Always liked the sesame chicken.
