We dined at Basil Asian Bistro on June 29th and had a fantastic experience. The food is as good as it gets - including outstanding sushi! Great service, great ambiance. Would give more stars if possible!

DELICIOUS!! General Tso chicken, stir fry medley, and crab rangoon are amazing. Great service, really nice atmosphere. A must try!!! Good variety and a refreshing addition to downtown canton!

Whether I call ahead for sushi takeout or enjoy a leisurely sit down dinner with friends, Basil's friendly service and warm atmosphere make it an easy place to return again and again. In the heart of the Canton Arts District, just south of The Palace Theatre.

Great food, Good Quality, Great Atmosphere...been going there over a year...the problem is, we noticed .50-.80 extra on our final bill. They ask you to sign the final price before swiping your cc (no problem) but when the final receipt comes, it's never the same amount....1-2-3x a charm...but 4,5,6 times...hardly an accident...check your slips! I'm not a cheap tipper by any means, always 20%+ but I dont like being hustled!

I went there on a Thursday evening for dinner to celebrate my birthday with a buddy and my girlfriend. Had heard the Ly's had opened up a new place in downtown Canton recently, so I was excited to check it out finally. The ambiance was stately, bright, clean, and elegant. We were greeted with a warm reception. It was early, so we got to chat with several of the Ly family. The menu was excellent. With all of the authentic Chinese, Thai, and even a couple of Korean dishes. I was impressed. We started with a sashimi sampler. Every piece as fresh as could be and displayed beautifully. Being Korean, I had to try the Jjamppong. If you like spicy noodle soup, you gotta try it. It was loaded with tons of the freshest seafood, great noodles, with just the right temperature of spiciness. After sampling the other dishes my companions ordered, I realized everything tasted just as good as I had remembered from the old Ricky Ly's. Two thumbs up for the best Chinese around! It's a great place for any special occasion, or just a quick lunch. Can't wait to go back.

Quick lunch of hot and sour soup or Tom Yum and Thai rolls - Yay!

Amazing food! Great for lunch or dinner! Lunch prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Great place for a dinner date.

When this place is on, its my favorite restaurant in town. But it seems to be inconsistent with staff waiting on me and food preparation. I was with a group of 5. We ordered appetizers. A couple minutes after our appetizers arrived, he started bringing our entrees saying he 'wanted to get them to us soon because he had a large group coming in the next room'. But none of them had arrived yet. We could barely fit all the plates on our table. This wasn't all that made the service is bad though. This was the least happy waiter ever. Seemed kind of grouchy. He look like the host of that show diners drive-ins and dives. I got my favorite dish there as my lunch entree. The avocado curry. Usually it's swimming in an amazing sauce and I take the leftover sauce and pour it over my rice as a dish to take home. Well this trip there was virtually no sauce. It was still decently flavorful, but with minimal sauce it was lacking to be sure. Again usually when I'm there this place is amazing. A five star as far as I'm concerned. My favorite place in Canton. Yesterday they were working with their junior varsity team it seemed.

Everything about the experience was excellent. Everyone's meal was great and our server, Megan, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive without being annoying. We will be back!

Best asian cuisine in Canton hands down! Have been there with a huge party or just a couple and the service has been great every time! I'm not much of a drinker but they seemed to have an awesome bar upfront. The food is always on point too. I've never had a bad meal there

Best place downtown. If you like excellent sushi, and I do mean excellent, then this is the place for you. Or if you like a good bar atmosphere, extensive vegan options, or really tasty curry. I've never had a bad time. Also, the Volcano Roll is out of this world.

  • Magan M.

My favorite place downtown. Service is always great! Even when I sit at the bar for food. I recommend the orange pineapple chicken, crab Rangoon, and any of the sushi, it's always very fresh Portions for dinner are always very large for the bowls. Great for groups, dinner dates or quick lunch pick up !

Food was good, kind of an American/ Chinese/ Thai food mix! We used open table to reserve a table for 2. Great place for a date night. Very clean and nice atmosphere. The serves was prompt and our waiter was very knowledgeable. Ask for Ethan. All around a great place to eat. We will definitely be going back!!

Ok I'm usually a person that's not hard to please when it comes to food! I love good food, but this place isn't very pleasing. I ordered edamame, orange glaze, dragon and tiger roll, a pho, and a side of lo mein. (Take-out) First, the lo mein had a hair in it!!! I told them and they gave me another one with no flavor at all (basically just noodles). Second, I told them I wanted chicken pho because I hate tendons and the beef, yet they gave me the exact thing I didn't want! The rolls weren't very fresh, the avocado was turning brown! How can someone serve this to a first timer? What happen to first impressions are everything?! I will never go back there again.

Very nice place. This is our first time here. Our reservation was at 5:45pm. It was good that we got here then. Full house. Food was excellent. Red dragon martini was fun and fruity. Shrimp Lomein was delicious. Vegetable pot stickers were homemade and filled with lots of veggies. Husband had coconut spaghetti. He loved it. Good service and good experience.

My husband and I love dinner at Basil. A favorite is the duck. It is cooked to perfection and brought to your table where the chef carves the duck. It is served with wraps, scallions, and plum sauce. Delicious! The staff is awesome and the ambiance is wonderful. The sushi is excellent as well as the triple delight dish. You won't be disappointed.

In town for work and saw this place had good reviews. The sushi was excellent as was the soup. Try the Chirashi if you are a fan of sashimi. Great quality fish and very well prepared. I will definitely be coming back next time I am in town.

Best Asian food in Canton!! Everything on the menu is great. The atmosphere is awesome. The set up is cool in the main dining room. The bar area is also really cool. There are so many food options to satisfy anyone. The service is good. All of the servers are very nice and helpful.

I just moved from NYC and have been craving pho. This was the first place that popped up as an option and BOY am I glad I went! The crab rangoon actually has crab in it, the pot stickers are delicious and the pho was very good. Service was great and I am already plotting when I can return and try more dishes. What a pleasant surprise to have such a delicious asian bistro so close.

This is a fun place with great food. Had the coconut spaghetti dinner and a red dragon martini to boot. Great flavor, generous portions. I would certainly come back.

i went to basil with a couple who recommended the place to me. my friend came to me highly recommending the jam-bowl (jjampong). i was hankering for some good asian food so i gladly went with him. i can't speak to the whole menu because in my experience, places that serve the gamut of asian cuisine - pho, pad thai, bulgogi, sushi, jjampong, etc. don't do all of them well, so i'll share my experience with the jam-bowl and the bon bon chicken. the bon bon chicken i thought was going to be like bon chon chicken i've had in virginia. it was similar, but more like orange chicken than bon chon. the breading was more like bon chon, but the chicken was more like orange chicken. it was good, but not what i was expecting (this will be the theme for the meal). let me emphasize, it was good. the taste was great, the breading was great, it's just not going to be like bon chon chicken if that's what you're expecting from the name and description. the jam-bowl was also great. the flavor was great, the broth was very meaty/seafoody and spicy, it was packed with seafood. BUT... it was not what i was expecting. it's not going to be the jjampong you might expect from a chinese restaurant. all the elements are there, but it's not authentic. again, that's not bad. it's just different. some differences: the broth could have been spicier, they packed the soup with beef and huge scallops (good and bad), the noodles didn't seem to fit perfectly with the soup. i'm used to my jjampong being fire red with almost a film of spicy redness on the top of it to skim off. i wasn't a big fan of the beef in the soup. i think traditionally there is some strips of beef or pork but this was more like little chunks of ground beef. i think the scallops were a great touch and i could see why the price was higher than i was used to seeing. the noodles were not typical jjampong noodles to me. i'm used to seeing smooth handmade noodles in my jjampong. these may have been handmade, but there were a lot of kinks in the noodles that made me think they might not be handmade, but they were also a little rougher than normal. they kind of reminded me of lo mein noodles than jjampong noodles if that helps. this place is a little pricier for asian food you're used to seeing for cheaper, but it is an asian bistro so you can expect it to be a little more expensive, especially with the huge scallops in the jjampong. i don't mean either of those comments in any negative way, it's just most bistros are going to charge a little more for menu items. it's just the way things are. so overall, we had a great meal. it just wasn't what i was expecting. when you come, lose your expectations and enjoy your meal. i would recommend staying with something that bistros are more known for like pad thai or their more asian fusion dishes. it's definitely worth a visit. there aren't a lot of restaurants like this around here.

This place is fantastic! The food is delicious! The atmosphere is appealing, the servers are friendly. Not a complaint in the world! I'll be here often! Try the Curry if you're a curry fan!

The atmosphere is awesome!! Greeting by two elephants statue at front door. The food was delicious although the Korean noodle jaw bowl to me was a bit salty, the overall presentation is very impressive. The unfiltered ice sake that was recommended by waiter is absolutely tasty & a good combination with the basil sushi roll. I would definitely recommend to others for this restaurant.

This place is a hidden gem. Plum Fu-ki was one of the best drink me and my partner ever had. For a bistro I think they have a huge menu. However, the food was fantastic. Sushi, Vietnamese noodles and Loi Mein was delicious. Bartenders Jason & Chris were genuinely very nice and funny. Best place to chill and enjoy good time. Good job guys you make this place amazing.

Came again tonight. This time I had a mango stir fry with tofu; I enjoyed it very much and will again tomorrow when I eat the leftovers. We forgot my husband's past misfortune with the shrimp; he unfortunately ordered the Kung Pao shrimp which was unhappily over cooked again, and he felt something about the sauce wasn't quite right. I had a Zombie for the first time; liked it very much, but consume with caution! It's strong, but deceptive in the way a Long Island Iced Tea is. Delicious but packs a wallop!

Our favorite restaurant! The food is always great, but it is even BETTER during the week when they aren't slammed with diners. Simply because they have more time i'm sure. Everything is very fresh. Our go-to dishes are the spicy wontons, General Tso chicken and chicken stir fry. The hostesses and the rest of the staff are very professional, helpful and friendly.

Just made our first trip to Basil and it won't be our last! We loved everything about it - the atmosphere, the service and especially the food. We really appreciated our server, Megan, explaining the menu, making recommendations and explaining how to eat the sushi. The food was fresh and flavorful. It's great to see Downtown alive with some great restaurants with Basil right at the top!

The good here is some of the better asian in the greater Canton and Massillon area. There is no doubt there. Every once in a while, some dishes are mediocre that are usually good. Service has been troublesome. Sometimes good, many times not so good. Here's my real issue. There is a younger girl who manages the tables at the front. On many occasions, the restaurant has been half empty and we have been told no tables were available. On one occasion, we asked about on of the tables right next to the hostess stand and one of three open tables in the bar. The other side of the restaurant was 2/3 packed. She told us it was reserved. After 1/2 of waiting the other 2 tables were randomly seated. I asked about the same table we inquired about before and another table that we had our eye on for over a 1/2 hour in the main dining room that had been open since we arrived and she politely she in so many words let me know who was in charge and they were not available. At this point, I'm about to pop. I said ok thank you. I waits for the next manager looking person to come up and politely asked him about the table and we were seated immediately at the table. Now, tonight, we walked in the bar side, 3 tables wide open. One had reservation. The bar was 1/3 full. Restaurant side was 1/3 full as well. We sat down at a table in the bar without the reservation tag. The same girl/hostess/shedevil came up and told us the table was reserved. I said, oh there is no sign. And she said they all were. Oh well, we left and are now at Napolis eating some of the best pizza in town and were the owner was holding is newly born grandaughter in his arms. Basil, you blew it. Get control of your front operation. We'll never be back.

Very nice downtown canton Asian cuisine! Fun place to bring a few friends or go on a double date. Most of the classic dishes are very good but try the Vietnamese Pho'. It is HUGE and very reasonably priced. I usually get it with a side of kimchi. Go for the atmosphere too - nice place to just sit bar side and have a drink or two. I do not suggest getting sushi here, however. Nothing special and a bit over priced.

This is one of the best restaurants in Canton. If you like rice or curry definitely check this place out. I've don't lunch and dinner here, and been pleasantly surprised each time.

first time here and the food was excellent. the atmosphere is very relaxing and the tables are nicely spaced. Our waitress was Megan and she was outstanding. Very helpful and did not rush us as we like like to take our time. We would highly reccomend this restaurant.

Had a very nice lunch here on a Saturday. Thai rolls were very good as was the hot and sour soup. The won ton soup had very good pork dumplings in it. I had the pad kee mao. I asked for Thai hot. It was more of a medium spicy. The noodles were a bit al dente. It wasn't bad but I probably will not order it again. My wife had the pad Thai. She loved it. I tried a bite. It was very good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly Service was prompt and friendly. Nice space. We will definitely go back.

My husband and I wanted to go somewhere special for our anniversary and knew that the Basil Asian Bistro recently opened up in downtown Canton. I've been looking forward to trying out the restaurant as we have been missing Ricky Ly's all these years. We weren't disappointed. As expected on a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was not crowded and we were greeted warmly and seated right away. The decor is very understated and retains the charm of the downtown area (exposed brick walls, punched tin ceilings) with subtle Asian decor. My husband is a carnivore, I'm a vegan, and the menu did not disappoint. Many of my favorites from Ricky Ly's were on the menu and my husband tried a dish that was new to him. There are many vegetarian options and the server mentioned that tofu could be substituted in other dishes. We started with the vegetable potsticker appetizer. Unfortunately when it arrived I discovered that we were given pork potstickers. The waiter was very apologetic and quickly replaced the dish with a fresh appetizer. For an entree I ordered the braised bean curd, a tofu dish with vegetables and a mild brown sauce, If you've never tried tofu before, this would be an excellent option to try. So delicious! Even my husband raved about it. He ordered the orange glaze chicken, which could have been prepared with beef, shrimp, or tofu. The sauce was slightly sweet with a kick of heat. This new restaurant has it all: a warm atmosphere, friendly servers, and a menu that is not overwhelming yet has the variety to please most tastes. The food was prompt and delicious, and the only issue we had with the food was quickly addressed. Our server (Alex) was very helpful and attentive without being intrusive. I can't wait to go back and hope others give this new restaurant a chance. It's worth a trip downtown!

Basil is OK... The wonton soup was nearly tasteless though and the same rainbow roll that I ordered here would've been bigger and tastier if I ordered it at Jasmine. I will probably give this place another shot because its closer to work when everyone orders take-out, but its just hard to justify ordering here when Jasmine is better and has the same prices.

Absolutely love this place. Best Chinese food in Canton and great for sushi too. I tend to go with the Thai Cashew or Kung Pao. the girlfriend has tried several things like the Pho and crispy pineapple chicken. All have been great.

I love this place. Avocado curry is one of my favorite foods, and I used to drive 45 minutes up to Fairlawn to get it, but Basil's is amazing, and right down the street! I've had quite a few of the other menu items, and all have been wonderful. Service is good, and the atmosphere is equally comfortable for either a casual dinner or a nicer night out.

My wife and I went here for a nice celebratory dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. Our server was very attentive and prompt. I got the Pho soup and it was incredible; the bowl is huge and full of rice noodle and beef plus the platter of hoisin sauce, chili sauce, bean sprouts, lime, and thai basil really make the dish exciting! 3 different people stopped by our table to ask what I ordered. We also split a Phoenix roll and it was the highest quality sushi I've had in Canton, hands down (better than Wasabi, Li, Jasmine, or Sukho Thai). Their mixed drinks were also delicious. My wife got the seafood fried rice and they did not skimp on the portions of scallops, shrimp, or crab. We will definitely be back, but beware it is pricier than other Asian food in the area. That having been said, I think its worth it.

Basil is good for Canton, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's a great Asian restaurant compared to areas with more variety and competition. I went here with a large group from work and ordered one of my favorite dishes - green Thai curry. My dish was fine, but nothing to rave about - and definitely not as spicy as I hoped for. I feel like I need to go back to give them a second chance - my coworkers loved the food, and I know my boss used to sneak here during lunchtime to get some sushi. The staff is extremely friendly and nice, so props for that. I really want the restaurant to succeed, so good luck! The area around the restaurant is a little sketch, being downtown Canton. Make sure you lock your car and don't leave anything valuable out. The parking lot behind is pretty tight, so be careful.

I've eaten here a good many times, with different friends. Every meal was top notch, and my friends loved it as well. I hope this place keeps going strong, so I can frequent it when I'm in town. Well played Basil!

I have been here multiple times but most recently I got the avocado curry dish. It was absolutely and unexpectedly delicious! I would recommend this place to everyone with a more adventurous taste for food. In addition the service is wonderful. The waiters my table has had in the past have always been very attentive and friendly.

Great atmosphere. Stopped in during First Friday for a bite at the bar w/ a friend after it was rec'd to us by someone from the area. Reasonably priced and well worth any seating wait- tho they do take reservations. The pad Thai was pretty good but I'm also used to spicier pad Thai dishes. This was very mild. The walnut glaze chicken was AMAZING. Very flavorful and jut enough garlic w/I being overwhelming. Generous portions on each. Had enough left over for a late night snack and lunch the next day. Reheated well!

Great food. One of my favorite new places. Gets packed early. They have some good martinis about $7 a pop. Avoid the french 75 though it taste like NyQuil unless you like that. Only have had two different sushi rolls there but it was good (crunch $14 and basil special roll $8, they're the house rolls). I love the hunan beef $12. Been there a few times and everyone thinks their drinks are just a little on the strong side which is great. Has a nice bar with a bunch of flat screen TVs. Nice place to have a drink and watch a game during the day. Great service great food. Service is lackluster. Love the food but twice now the hostess (same one) has suggested we go some where else because they were "really" busy And it would be a long wait, even though we had reservations. This last time we had a reservation and they called my friend to change them. When we got there the argued with us and said they don't do that. Then we had this look at the phone and listen to the voicemail. Normally I wouldn't care but ever time we go there they screw the pooch when it comes to reservations. We asked them what to do since this keeps happening, she suggested using open table (which I did before and they still dropped the ball). They have some great wait staff but some are not so good. It just depends on who you get. People ask why keep going back? Bottom line once you get seated it's a great place but till then hold on for a very bumpy ride.

I enjoyed my pad thai! I also got a spicy tuna roll which left a little to be desired but not bad. This was my first time trying Basil so I'll definitely be back to try some other entrees!

We recently ate at Basil with some friends and it was excellent. So many great choices from sushi to Thai. The red curry or the Avocado Curry with Shrimp is to die for and they have Japanese beer on tap! But what really made the place great was the staff. We actually had some problems with our car (a break in because we stupidly left our cell phone on the dash. Yea, don't do this.) which required us to wait around after dinner for the police. We were invited to wait inside and several staff members came to talk to us and offered us drinks while we waited. We ended up waiting so long that the manager felt terrible and he gave us a gift certificate to encourage us to come back again. (Which there's no question that we will!) What's funny is that he gave us a gift certificate where the amount was all the #8 which is considered lucky in his culture. We were very thankful and promised to come back (I had already been there twice that week!) so again there was no question. But the kicker was that when we went back to our car after filing a police report we ended up finding our cell phone on the floor in the broken glass! Turns out the the thief dropped it somehow and didn't make any effort to try and retrieve it from the floor. So I'd like to thank the manager because it appears that his efforts did actually give us some extra luck in the end. Basil is a great addition to downtown Canton and don't worry about it not being a safe place. It's very safe. Just don't do anything stupid like leaving valuables on your car dashboard.

Curries are hard to come by in Canton, Ohio. This place had great Thai curry, reasonable prices and an upscale, trendy vibe that really makes it stand out in downtown Canton. WAY TO GO, BASIL! I'll be back here in the future.

Im not easily impressed however bistro nailed every aspect of what the great dinning experience should be. As soon as we walked in the doors, we noticed that everything was clean. Not a crumb or piece of paper, speck of dirt was to be noticed. The staff was bustling about also in imacculate condition. From the bar tender to the servers to the hostess, not a stain, piece of lint, piece of hair was out of place. The only other time ive visited a picture perfect restraunt was mon'ami gabi in Las Vegas. What is this gem doing in canton ohio? Somehow we were seated immediately. Please see the picture of our dinning area I took after we shut the place down so as not to ruin other diners experience. We started out with water, beer, and two appetizers. I can't recommend which one to get because they both were equally perfect in what youd be expecting. The crab ragoon comes with four perfectly cooked pieces paired with a sweet and sour sauce that doesnt overpower the ragoon. The Thai rolls were also perfectly cooked sharing just the right amout of chicken and shrimp. it was also pair with a sweet chili sauce that blended well to bring out the flavor in each bite. My wife enjoyed the Dragon & Phoenix. I feel lucky enough to have stolen a taste. The chef obviously knows how to pair sauces to bring out the foods natural flavor. The cantonese white wine sauce will leave you with a full yet light flavor. If you perfer something more bold and robust, I recommend the Korean sizzling steak. It reminds me of pepper steak but with a different more lighter sauce. We were full with the right sized portions from our meals but couldn't pass on the triple chocolate truffle cake. Again see our picture. Every no matter how full you may be, pass on this and you'll be missing out on something really special. Price is just right. Service paired with great food made this the ultimate dining experience. The Ly family hit a home run with this place however I will have trouble understanding why a restraunt on this level is located in canton. Maybe I need to consider my underestimation of its location. Cant wait to revisit as soon as possible.

Our family lives over an hour away, but we still come here on a regular basis. We could get to Cleveland in the same amount of time but come to Canton instead just to go to Basil. We've had all of the different categories of food - apps, sushi, curries, noodle dishes, stir fry, dessert - and I can promise you that they're ALL wonderful. My husband's favorite is the spicy peanut curry. I've loved each item I've tried, but the last two times I went I got the pad see ew - delicious! Also, save room for the coconut ice cream! Dairy free, super light. And their cocktails & wine/beer selection are great. I highly recommend the lychee martini. Overall, this place is fantastic. You must try it if you live anywhere in NE Ohio or are passing through.

Not the best, definitely better places in the area. Ordered the mango salad and almost gagged from whatever dressing they used, it was a soggy salad. The entrees were not good either. Despite the good reviews (which led me to going there) , that will be my first and last time.

So far so good. Been here twice and everything has been delicious. Very friendly and attentive staff in a beautiful setting. I think the Thai dishes and sushi are better than the Chinese dishes from what I have seen so far. It is nice to finally have a place with pho in Canton, but it is not as good as the great Cleveland pho choices. Some of the food reminds me of Pad Thai in Fairlawn, which is a good thing. I am giving 5 stars because it is as good as it gets in Canton.

Only Thai restaurant where I had to spice up my leftovers at home!! Grouper and mango was described as mild. Mango and chilies go well together, so I asked for mine to be medium hot (NOT MILD,) a 2.5 or 3 out of 5 on the hotness scale. It was served maybe a 1. It was very good, but tasted too sweet with no heat for balance. Tom Yum Gai was hot ... about 3 or 4 on the heat scale. It was very tasty, but had too much lemon and fish sauce. The food is fresh and attractively presented. Decent moderate wine menu. Canton is lucky to have a this popular restaurant.
