LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The food here is awesome, especially the pizza! The service is always fast and they are always nearby if you need anything. I have eaten here a half a dozen times and I haven't been unimpressed with an entree yet....

Can't imagine to find a decent Italian place in this city. This place was really busy, even on weeknights, so service and seating can take a while. Tried the chicken lasagna - the addition of green chile definitely gave the extra oomph. Pay at the cashier by mentioning your table number.

This place has been given 3 chances to impress, or not. Poor customer service; not so much as a "Hello" upon entrance. Three servers up front and one says from across the restaurant "how many? Just take a seat anywhere." Menus were dropped without a word. Bread and sauce dropped off without a word. Drink orders taken approx 10 minutes later. When food order was taken, my partner ordered spaghetti w/meat sauce and I ordered a chopped salad. (Wait, she didn't ask about dressing did she?) Order came (20+ minute wait) again without a word...spaghetti and meatballs and a chopped salad with Italian dressing. It was a train wreck of a meal with no concern whatsoever from the wait staff. We were not the only ones trying to get the attention of the staff either. The guy next to us had to get his silverware from a close empty table. A lady across the room called out "ma'am ma'am" several times before giving up. The ambiance was country music, uncleared tables and a few rogue flies. Terrible experience. No more chances. Checking out at the front desk wasn't even friendly or cordial. Again, no "thank you for coming, or how was everything." Why is it SO hard to provide good customer service?!

Hate to give such a neat place a 2-star, but my visit was less-than-impressive. Wait staff, service, and cleanliness were great! No complaints there. The bread and marinara were pretty good. I liked the fact it came gratis pre-meal. And honestly, it was the best food I had. Ordered the chicken alfredo. While it was served hot as hell; it was also a grainy, bland alfredo with gristly, dry chunks of chicken. While disappointed in the meal, I'll be back to try a marinara or meat sauce dish in an attempt to offer an opportunity at redemption.

Artesia is full of nice surprises, Piccolino is one of nice ones. The staff is super attentive and the Italian food is the best you are likely to find in a small New Mexican town. I have eaten here half a dozen times and the food is always good. The only real downside is it can be crowded at lunch. The pizza is good, but not the star. Come explore the menu.

Food is always awesome but the service is ALWAYS awful! The waitresses all sit in a corner on their phones and when you ask for something they snap at you. Never have I seen anything like it. Don't they work for tips? ?? Would not recommend.

So after a horrible lunch in Carlsbad I did my homework. . .Lucy's had decent reviews, but that tells me everything about who eats there and not the restaurant. The Piccolino happened to be catty-corner from the hotel we chose to stay at. We walked out from the Artesian Hotel. With what I thought might have been a ritzy spot was this quaint, hole-in-the-wall Italian resto. I chose to sit us in the corner to give us some privacy, and at first the service was a little rough, but as we were right next to the primary service station in the restaurant so our drinks were refilled pretty fast and the bread with marinara was great. She ordered spinach canneloni, and either she enjoyed her dish or just hid the reaction from me. Which would be a bad sign? I chose to get the Chicken Parmigiana, to be honest I would have preferrred a thicker breast rather than one that was hammered. The breading, marinara, and cheese was a great combination, would have enjoyed a little more pasta...however, overall: it was a great dinner.

The variety of offerings on the menu was impressive..pretty much every Italian dish we could think of. The service was predictable...we'd read about the waitresses sitting and talking, in no rush to wait tables. That was true during our visit. The food was passable, and she almost got our order right. My husband ended up with pepperoni, not meatballs, in his calzone, and in large quantity and stuck together. Would probably order more carefully, and more clearly, if we find ourselves there again.

This is a great little Italian joint to go if you ever find yourself in Artesia, NM. Its a small place, but service and food are pretty good.

Never thought I would be eating in Artesia, but here i am I look out my room window and I see Piccolino, hmmm, must be an Italian joint. Great and I can walk over. Perfect. So, that's what I did. Popped a pinot from Santa Barbara...Solomon Hills Vineyard, pretty good little bottle. Anyway, I get over there after a 100 ft walk and from the outside it looks pretty tasteful and well kept. Good job. I walk in the door and it's a tight little place. Apparently an old house that they have retrofitted with two bathrooms in the main lobby(by code I am sure, damn democrats) which are handicap size(irks me), cuz nobody there is in a wheelchair and if they were I would carry them in there to do there bidness, but I digress. So, back to the food, the place is really pretty well kept, I see the mama, who apparently is the mastermind behind the recipes, she's got an apron on and a sleeping baby is next to her. It kind of felt like you were at there home and as the night progressed it would get even cozier. I don't get real creative with Italian, pretty nuts and screws when it comes to Italian, ordered calimari and Brooklyn pasta. The marinara is pretty tasty, they outfit you with bread and dipping sauce, the calimari was spot on especially for New Mexico. All in all, these guys are doing a pretty good job for a family place. I don't think you will be disappointed by either the food or service. I would actually rate them a 3.5, but only because they seem to be surviving rather than doing this as a passion. I know you can't fault them for that, it's tough out there. Thanks Piccolino for being so close and handy and good job.

We found this place four years ago on another trip from our home in Humboldt County, CA. Tonight, we found it as good as ever. The food is all good, sometimes excellent. I had gnocchi de mare, a plateful of soft, slightly cheesy ovoids in a light tomato sauce that was great. A few shrimp accounted for the "mare." The chicken soup with spinach and egg was sublime, but the entrees arrived on its heels and both suffered a bit. The fruity NM Gewurtztraminer was a pleasant surprise. My partner had chicken with red and green peppers and mushrooms. Also tasty. The check was $51. Piccolino's also has pizza and calzones. They do a steady take-out business. Most of the customers appear to be locals. The service was attentive and charming. We stayed at the Hotel Artesia next door, which we also recommend. But that's another story.

Piccolino in a minute, but first let me share a sad tale. So we drive to Texas and we'll be there a week, so I figure it won't be hard to shove some BBQ down my gullet at some point. But on the way there it's X-mas eve so Rix Pit in Fort Stockton and Mesquite Wood BBQ in Iraan aren't open. Well nuts. And as it happens we don't have any in Kerrville either, but we're passing back through Fort Stockton on our way out so we swing by Rix. It's January 2nd, but they're closed for New Year's. Errr, but fuggit. We're planning to go to Danny's Place in Carlsbad, NM the next night so I'll catch some BBQ on the tail end. We get to Danny's Place Tuesday night at 6pm. Closed. Apparently. There's no sign giving their bidness hours or anything, but the door is locked. Goddamn it! Week and a half in Texas (and environs) and no BBQ. If that's not proof that the world has "moved on" then I don't know what is. So, goddamn pissed, I drive back to Artesia where the gal at the hotel suggests Piccolino and a BBQ place in town. Well, Mama and The Pookster want Italian so Piccolino it'was. Pulling up it didn't look too promising. We've been watching a lot of "Restaurant Impossible" lately and Robert Irvine would tear this place a new asshole. But when we got inside and got menus in hand I was tremendously impressed with the range of choices. I went softball and got linguine with meatballs. The sauce was a little more runny than I care for but MAN was that some tasty shit! And the meatballs too, yummo! This is also the only place I've been to where I could get just a cup of stracciatella soup with my meal. Most places insist you get a big bowl which ruins your dinner but leaves you hungry a few hours later. That's a star right there. The only thing I didn't see was saltimbocca, but if I'd had my head probably would've exploded like in "Scanners", so it's probably for the better. Buncha desserts too, but we just had spumoni.

As someone from Houston, Texas with many good Italian restaurants, I thought the food at this Italian restaurant in Artisia, MN was pretty darn good last night.

We lived in Artesia all our life until we moved to Las Cruces five years ago. Always liked this place and small hometown feel of it. To this day, we have to have a cheese pizza and an order of Chicken Bolloco every time we come home. Had it again last night and both were great as usual. I'm not a huge pizza fan, but the cheese pizza here is hands-down great. I can't turn it down. The crust is always done just right but no burnt spots! And while it's not super thin it's very "foldable" for those that enjoy NY style pizza. The Chicken Bolloco never disappoints. Just enough heat from the green chile to make it good and make my nose run. Can't say much about service as we always get it to go so we can spend more time at Mom's house.

Not the worst Italian I've had and not the best. The prices are a bit steep. The pizza is decent here. The sauce they use for it is pretty tasty.

Had the special. New York strip over ravioli. It was bland and the steak was so stringy and grisly I could barely cut it. I wish I would have just went to McDonalds. Although I did finish the entire meal. Mostly cause I was just hungry. Friendly service any ways.

Ordered take out as I am working night shift across the street at the refinery. First night, I ordered the veal parmigiana and it was good! I mean, I have eaten better but I paid a LOT more than this for it! Second time I ordered the Chicken Florentine -- from my perspective, there is nothing else on the menu to order from here on out -- it was FANTASTIC! The chicken was thin and cooked to perfection and the blend of spices in the gravy that surrounded the chicken (I know...it's a white wine marsala sauce, but since I'm from Texas, I'm gonna call it gravy) was just phenomenal tasting. The Caesar Salad is delightful! The ONLY slightly negative thing I could say would be that if you don't like GARLIC, GARLIC, GARLIC bread, then stay away from it....the positive aspect - I will never have to worry about being attacked by vampires - EVER!!! Overall, great food at a decent price - can't comment on the service! Enjoy!

First time---This place was delicious!! Right when you walk in you get bread and marinara sauce. (Decent) but the food was amazing. I got the green chile with chicken fettuccine. THE BEST. The only bad thing was we waited forever and when the food came out it was burning I had to wait for it to cool down. Not a big deal, but other than that. Great place.

Nice little local Italian place. Eggplant was yummy. Pizza crest did not taste homemade - more like pre made shell. But otherwise good. Salad does not come with meal order seperate.

This place is great. From their starters (their homemade marinara sauce they serve with the garlic cheesy bread is to die for) to their entrees Piccolino is the Italian go to place. I've had the Chicken Florentine and their chicken parmesan so far; the Florentine is a good sized plate and it's nicely done with a good sauce and thin cut chicken. Their stracciatella soup is really good too. I'd drive from Carlsbad to eat Italian here any day of the week. It's a little less fancy and a bit cheaper than your average Italian restaurant, but they have great food and really nice girls to serve you.
