I created a Yelp account after visiting this establishment. My girlfriend and I went out tonight searching (stubbornly) for somewhere to serve us some hot corned beef and a few drinks for St. Pat's. After a few failed attempts to get through the crowds at several local non-chains, that we tried first, we decided to give houlihans in Parsippany a shot. To their credit they had a few open seats right at the bar, and we were able to slide in and a bartender took our drink order right away. They had music being played by some dj in a low key manor, at a volume that was loud enough to he fun but low enough to talk and not be frustrated (something I find bars mess up quite often) so kudos again. The reason I was compelled to write this is because their management should be embarrassed with the amount of trash that was in the bar area. We opted to change seats after we found ourselves sitting next to about 3 1/2 feet of bar top space covered in dirty dishes and glasses that appeared to be sitting for quite some time. The guy who was too drunk to realize he had starting to use my girlfriend'a shoulder as a way to prop himself up didn't help. At this point we had considered leaving but had instead committed to getting food since the place didn't look overwhelmed from a service/crowd perspective. In our new seats, again the drinks came quick, but we soon found ourselves looking at dirty dishes and glasses all around the bar that entrapped a group of slowly sauntering bar tenders, backs, and servers. They seemed not to notice it (all of who were quite pleasant to their credit). It is just very surprising to see that this sort of environment is tolerated, especially considering the old business in this same building (blackthorn's) had to be closed for tampering with alcohol (ie rubbing alcohol used to dilute bottles). The corned beef was okay, the mashed potatoes were great. Enjoy.

I just wanted to commend the bartenders at Houlihan's Parsippany. Every time I go in, the service is great and quick, and the drinks are always yummy. The bartenders are some of the friendliest around! The bar area is nice and big and the ambiance is comfortable and welcoming. I've always had a good experience here, whether I am coming for happy hour with coworkers or dinner with friends. Keep up the good work Houlihan's!

Went in a wee bit early, but mgr let us order off their early bird menu...it's a 3 course meal with soup, entree and dessert! we started off with the combo appetizer of stuffed mushrooms, wings, and tater skins! It's was great! French onion soup next! YUMMIEST! Just the right amt of salt! My son had the ribs which he enjoyed and I had chicken fingers, wish they were battered fry instead of breaded fry but still tasty! Couldn't finish everything and brown bagged the rest! Great food!

Finally open! The quality of the food is a bit better than typical chains, prices a little higher. Service was good for a newly opened establishment. The potato soup was really good followed by chicken strips (crispy good large portion) and the crab cake sandwich (too much sauce). Nice surroundings. Similar to the old Blackthorne. Should do well as long as they don't water down the booze!

We hated everything about this place except the fries. Sound harsh? First the service is the worst I've ever had - the waiter was clueless, forgot half the things the 3 of us asked for and then never checked on us once. In fact, I was asking other waiters if they could bring me a dressing, a fork, etc because our waiter never came around. Then, at the end of the meal, he had the nerve to tell me where to sign and where to add the tip - AS IF! The food was pretty boring, the salad was mediocre and the chicken sandwich my mom ordered was pretty dry and bland too. We will never ever be going back.

Love the new menu items and revamped interior. Fairly new considering it was rebuilt in the end of 2014. They have three enormous dining areas and plenty of TVs all around in case there is a big sporting event. Great for quick work lunches with the team, they gladly expedite the service if you tell them you're on a work schedule. Try the stuffed chicken breast and French onion soup!!

We came here, and I must say the decor is absolutely beautiful!! Our Server Natalie was excellent. She was so attentive to our needs! My wife had the fish and chips! Amazing!! Crispy fish!! Very tasty!! I had the Scallops, crazy good!! As we sat there loving how everything was, the Manager Leo came up to us to make sure everything was good. He was so nice and very concerned. He made you feel great about being there! Great place!! You need to go!!

I'm a huge fan of the Houlihan's in Paramus, NJ. It's one of my favorite places to go to for drinks, appetizers, and dinner. I was excited when I found out one opened up near my aunt who lives in East Hanover, and I told her it's one of the best places to go to for food. We got there and ordered my favorite appetizer, the shrooms (stuffed mushrooms). When we got them, they were not good! I have had these yummy treats tons of times so I know how they were supposed to taste. These were not fully cooked. We were both disappointed. Next came our meals, my aunt had the fajitas, which she said were okay, and I had a black and blue burger. I ordered my hamburger how I normally would at any other Houlihan's or burger place, well done. When I got my burger is was burnt! There is a huge difference between well done and burnt. It wasn't good. Our waitress was nice, but it just wasn't a good experience. When we left my aunt didn't understand why I liked Houlihan's so much, and doesn't want to ever go back. I tried explaining to her that the one is Paramus is nothing like the one in Parsippany. I hope she will go with me to the one in Paramus so that she can see what the food is really supposed to taste like. The staff is nice and friendly, but something has to be done about the cooking there!

This place is a joke... Arrived at 7:30 on a Sunday looking for a quick, decent meal. It wasn't very busy at all. Lots of empty tables. By the time we left, it was already 9:30 and we were one of maybe four or five tables left in the dining room. Keep in mind, we were only a party of two. -_- There's absolutely no reason why it took two hours to eat here. We started with sangria. I got the red, my mom got white. Delicious, I have to say. They were a nice size so we didn't need to refill while we were there for two hours. We started with the fried calamari and buffalo wings. First of all, it took about half an hour to get those appetizers out to our table. The wings were okay, but the calamari was pretty inedible. It was chewy, flavorless, and stale. There was no way it was fresh... Definitely reheated. I ordered a turkey burger and my mom ordered the Navajo chicken pasta. That took about 30-45 minutes to come out AFTER we'd gotten out apps. At one point, we had to ask the waitress where our food was because it was taking so long. During that long wait, she didn't come over to us once to acknowledge that we'd been waiting awhile or that our food would be out soon. She was just cleaning the dining room the entire time. Okay... Got my turkey burger finally and the lettuce was literally a chunk pulled off an iceberg lettuce head. That got put off to the side... My mom's pasta dish was good, but it shouldn't have taken that long to come out. I've eaten there before and someone ordered the same pasta dish and they got it within 10 minutes of us receiving out appetizers. Skip this restaurant unless you're going to sit at the bar and eat bar food.

Not a great experience here....I have been here numerous times since it is near work. Bartenders are just very weak....many of them do not attend to their customers very well. Last time there the bartender tried to rip us off on change....will not be back.

I was trying to post my feedback on the houlihansfeedback.com website, but they wouldn't accept the code on my receipt from today. So here I am. Group of 3, arrived at 12:30, before the first NFL wild card game. Sat at the bar. First bartender: blonde female, very nice. Got us menus, drinks with no issue. She was then replaced by a brunette. A few orders were put in, a sandwich and flatbread, nothing crazy. They were brought out in normal time without issue. We didn't see our bartender for another 20 minutes as she spent all of her time with people that were clearly regulars at Houlihans. When she did return I ordered some chicken fingers and fries. Around 20 minutes later she hadn't returned to check on us and my food hadn't arrived. When asked where the food was (as well as asking for another drink) she provided no explanation and left to check. It was clear she had forgotten to put the order in. A few minutes later the fries came out and I was told the chicken fingers would follow "in a minute". Several minutes later I decided to cancel my order so we could finish our drinks and leave. This was the exchange during my attempt to cancel my order: "I'd like to cancel my order" "The chicken fingers had to be made again, they'll be out shortly" "Ok, I'd still like to cancel my order" "The manager is going to comp them" "That's ok, I don't want them" "You don't want them to go?" "No" "You don't want them even though they're free?" "No" After this a manager was very curious why I didn't want free food, but wasn't nearly as unresponsive when I said no. We had a terrible time today. Our bartender totally ruined our visit, and we definitely would have spent more than an hour and a half if she had provided better service. We're not regulars, and based on the service I don't think we'll be back for some time even though we live about a mile and a half away. Houlihans - please don't ask me to contact you. Please retrain the brunette female that worked the bar today.

We went to this restaurant for the second time. The way they seat people is way too confusing. They ask for your cell Number and text you when your table is ready. So that is pretty convenient. However, when your table is ready it is pure chaos! Multiple people get a text at the same time I guess, so there is a rush of people at the hostess stand, where people who are trying to check in are already standing. I feel like it could be more organized. Other than that my kids and I had a nice dinner, except for being seated by the station where the servers use the computer and get condiments. My 9 year old heard some of the servers arguing about something and she said they used "bad words". I didn't hear it though. It was just very busy in the area. I would come again, just on a less crowded night.

Great happy hour specials! Their menu has a range of options for food which I like. A small plates section for light dining and a nice entree selection as well. I love this time of the year because the patio is open and you can hang out with friends relax and enjoy a consistently good time. I have been to several locations and I've never been disappointed. Will definitely be back.

We went here for dinner and the overall experience was not good. The floor was dirty and not swept in several areas surrounding where we were seated. My wife ordered a cheeseburger medium and it came out well done. I ordered the jambalaya and the dish had no seasoning and was all rice with few beans/vegetables . My daughter had the kids pizza and they failed to bring out her fruit and ice cream dessert that came with the meal until we said something to the server. Server did not even seem apologetic for the mistake. During dinner I could see the server was arguing with another member of the staff a few tables down. You have to air your dirty laundry in front of paying guests? Totally unprofessional. Poor food, mediocre service, and poor cleanliness. We will not return.

First time at this location tonight, have frequented their other locations. Nothing really noteworthy tonight. Service was good, food was good, portion sizes at houlihans always seem to be fantastic. I always leave their restaurants full and satisfied. I've never been dissapointed at one of their locations, never really been "wowed" either. Always a tried and true.

Went there with my family the food was not the issue here, the service was horrendous!! It took10 minutes just to get a soda the waitress forgot about us numerous times and after a half hour the food finally came out and one of the entrees were missing!! Turns out they forgot the meal completely! When we complained to the manager he was very nice but the night was already ruined. What's worse is the manager told us that our waitress was one of the best at the restaurant... If she was the best I hate to see the worst stay away!!

The food and service were great. Building is clean well manag3d we have been to many on the area. This is our choice for the great fod, service and ambiance

Good service but the food left something to be desired. Two of the 4 people in our party had soup. They had the French onion soup and the potato soup which was ok. For entrees we had the sirloin steak, French dip, scallops and risotto and lastly a children's chicken fingers. The only meal worth mentioning was the Scallops and risotto which was quite good. The French dip was fair but it came with French fries that were so salty, they were not edible. I would have thought maybe it was a one time thing but the fries on the children's plate were the same. My older child had the sirloin which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was a bit shocking when she said, "ah Dad?" and I look over to see they use bag vegetables that were in the bag she was holding up. After all this, for some reason we decided to give dessert a chance thinking maybe we could have a strong finish. The desserts seemed very grocery store bought. Overall, we were quite disappointed. And all this for only $116.00. I would not recommend this location. I generally like places like TGIF, Applebee's and Houlihan's but this was not a good experience.

The chicken stir fry was awesome. So what's a chicken stir fry great place great service
(4)Khatia K.
The service was really good but the food wasn't. The bbq ribs were stale and the chicken Alfredo sauce was horrible.

I wasn't expecting too much from Houlihan's. I expected a duplicate of Applebee's or TGIFridays. I was pleasantly surprised first by their great drink, the black and blue lemonade. It was a perfect light drink for dinner, but packed a surprising punch. I order a veggie burger with melted cheese and caramelized onions, and my boyfriend ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Both arrived quickly, and we were satisfied with the portions, and the taste especially. Our waitress Marcy was so friendly and courteous. I would absolutely recommend this place if you have been putting it off as I was.

Food was good. Service was fine. They do have an early bird special 3course meal for $14.99 but be sure not to get a bottled tea unless you want to pay 3.50 extra. Nice atmosphere. Let's Go Ya'll!!!!!â„¢

This was our second try at this new location. Our first experience was just appetizers at the bar and was excellent. The lettuce wraps were fantastic, generous portion frsh and tasty and our server was the best we have had in years. That being said, we tried dinner last night, a busy Saturday evening, waited just a few minutes to be seated. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib, he requested an end cut, I requested rare. We had both worked in a prime rib house many years ago, and know what to expect. My husbands end cut arrived and was perfect, fresh and surprisingly medium rare ( a good surprise!) My 'rare' cut however was a tough reheat and under the crusty red on top was actually med-med well. I immediately pointed that out to the server before she left and handed her my plate but she refused to take. I waited while enjoying the veggies and baked potato which were excellent then the mgr arrived and took my plate explaining they only had med rare which I stated would be fine. Meanwhile the rest of our party ate their meals while I waited....and waited...and waited. The mgr finally returned with some internal temp excuses a fresh dinner and offered to comp my meal. I received a fresh cut this time which was a good medium rare however way too salty to eat and to top it off an undercooked baked potato and cold veggies. I left wishing I had eaten more of the first potato and bagged the meat for the dog. We will go back, however I will stick to simple fare like potato skins, lettuce wraps etc.

Once again an outstanding dinner at this location. The food and service was, excellent. I have read a couple of the poor reviews and think those folks must have a personal gripe. We love this place.

I stopped in this Houlihan's the other day with a friend of mine for a late lunch. My wife used to live near this place before we got married and we had dinner a couple times. It was under different ownership at the time. I think it was The Black Thorn and it was always good. So when we pulled up I was surprised to see it was now Houlihan's. But I've been to other Houlihan's restaurants and figured it can't be too bad. Boy was I wrong ! We walked in and the hostess stand was unattended. The hostess was sitting at a table in the bar area with another co worker. She never got up and addressed us from her seat. She asked "Are you guys going to the bar ?" We looked at each other and said "Umm I guess". She said "You guys look like bar guys". We laughed as we walked to the bar. I said to my friend that the reality was we probably would have opted to sit at the bar, but to be addressed that way from her seat and then to be told we look like bar guys was just plain ridiculous and extremely uncourteous and unprofessional. The bartender was pre occupied chatting with a couple other patrons at the bar. They were the only ones at the bar as it was kind of quiet. Yet It still took him a few minutes to even greet us. Finally he came over and he asked how we were doing. We said fine how are you? He said I ll be better in a few hours when I get off. Another real professional way to start off. So we ordered a couple beers and I asked if we could see some menus. He went to the cash register and went back to talking with the patrons he was talking to prior. I waved to him and asked again if we could get some menus. He finally brought them over. Now we quickly chose our food and were again waiting for him to take our order. Finally another bartender came from the kitchen and saw us. So I asked if he could take our order. I ordered the steak salad which was a skewer of beef tenderloin on top of a tossed salad. My friend ordered a mushroom flat bread style pizza. The bartender asked how I'd like my steak and I requested medium rare. He went to the register to place the order and quickly came back as he already forgot what I ordered. My friend and I almost thought we were on candid camera or something because every person and so far every step of this process was lacking in great magnitudes. The food took a very long time to come out, yet there was hardly anyone in the place which after the fact doesn't surprise me one bit. The food comes out and my "skewer of tenderloin" looked like Fido the dogs scraps. 4 tiny little shriveled pieces of well done meat. And for as well done as it was it was colder than room temperature. My friends flat bread was cool at best and borderline raw. We were tempted to complain at this point but we just wanted to get the hell out of there and forget this place ever existed. If we had an experience like this for a simple lunch with hardly anyone in there, imagine the disastrous experience you'd have if the place was slamming. I gave it one star because zero stars wasn't an option. Steer clear my friends !!!!
(1)Amy B.
Good food. We had a few little issues (soup came after meal served & long wait for food) but manager was on top of it & gave us discount & dessert. We would certainly go back!

We were so glad when this Houlihan's was put in. The one in Bridgewater is great, and we assumed this would be the same. However, the service here was horrendous. We decided to sit at the bar so we could have a quick bite. The bartender took about 15 minutes to decide to wait on us. If I weren't pregnant and dying of starvation, we would have left. Finally, an older gentleman in a shirt and tie walked out of the kitchen, saw us and pointed at us. That was when she came over. I could understand if she was swamped, but it was just my husband and I plus one other woman by herself and two older gentlemen. The reason she ignored us? She was too busy talking with the four other severs that were taking a lunch break at a table at the bar (also weird- why are your servers all eating at once at tables that your patrons are sitting next to). There seemed to be one other manager type, a younger guy in a pink shirt. He was more concerned with talking to his congregating severs than making sure his customers were being taken care of. At one point, the bartender ran out from behind the bar, giggling and screeching, running after said pink shirt guy. Seems as though this guy is dipping his private parts into the server pool. Needless to say, our order was taken, she checked on us once and I never got a refill of water. This place is a shame. It could be so great to have a Houlihan's close by, but the poor service and management makes this a "never to return" place for us. (Food was good).
(2)Nicole G.
Have been a couple times. Was surprised how busy they were on a Sunday at 4pm! The place is always packed, food isn't bad but service hasn't impressed me. While our waitress was nice, she clearly forgot about our table several times and other people (from the bar to other waiters nearby to managers) began waiting on us - everyone was very nice but it was slow and things got forgotten, including an entire meal which was never entered and drinks that never came. Overall not bad, but there should be more staff or they need to be reevaluated.
(3)Robert D.
This was the old Blackthorn site. It was crowded but we were quickly seated. The service was very good and the food was good too (better than last time I went to another Houlihan's.). The menu is more varied than I recall in the past.
(4)Oliver V.
We frequent the Houlihan's in Fairfield, a local favorite for a reliable meal. It's nice to see a new one (to break up the monotony)! This location is off to a fast start for a new restaurant. The staff is friendly, service is prompt, same menu as the others. All-in-all, looks like this one may be a success. (The last two restaurants at this location didn't last.)
(4)L A.
Aside from the baked potato soup, Alex (Alexander) is the second reason we love going to Houlihan's in Parsippany! From the first day we got Alex, he's always taken such great care of us and we always ask for him. Make sure to request Alex next time you visit this Houlihan's and you'll see what we mean!
