FANTASTIC!!!! I'm gonna kick my own ass for not getting here sooner....I knew it was here, just never put the effort in. Had lunch there and the burger are Freakin' awesome!!! They come on a Ciabatta roll (A GOOD one!) PERFECTLY cooked. Fast and super friendly service, price is a little higher than some spots, but clearly a case of you pay a little more to get A LOT better, and thet includes room vibe, staff, and food. Looking the dinner menu over, they have LOTS of stuff to try. I'm gonna be there a few more times before i leave And Tom Waits playing on the system was a nice touch. BIG fan !!!!!

East Shore Smokehouse cooks up some pretty good food, and the staff and decor are legit too. Overall, I was pleased with the meal I ate there, but in this review I'll focus on what the restaurant ought to improve, in my opinion. For one thing, there were a fair number of flies and moths inside, which was rather offputting. Apart from that, the staff sometimes crossed the line from being sincere to being overfriendly and pandering, so if they dialed things back just a little, they'd be solid. The food itself was pretty nice, but I found it to be somewhat greasy in some cases (sweet potato fries and chips), and too heavy and savory with respect to the chicken and pork barbecue we got. I know the whole point of barbecue is to give you the taste of meat, fat, and smoke, but I've had barbecue that I've adored, and this just wasn't it. Again, I must emphasis that I was quite happy with my experience overall, but it would take a couple improvements to make ESS a top notch place in my book.

Awesome setting. We sat on the patio under the big Evergreen on a beautiful evening. BBQ combo was good but prime rib dish was a bit overcooked. Check out the bunnies before you leave. Thanks yelp for recommending this one as the setting made it great for my last vacation dinner!

everything was good, except the value. Overpriced. the ribs were almost meatless, but good sauce. The brisket tenderness was so/so, good taste. The sampling of beans was excellent, as was the red cabbage slaw. Warm sour dough roll to top it off. Great marketing, fantastic decorator, local beer (reasonable price) ok choices of recorded blues if/when played or heard. very cozy atmosphere, free cherries for the picking in the parking lot. It has terrific potential.

too many LA people!!!! (count the california plates in the lot.. what is this wilshire blvd?) they need insect control, our party got stung by yellow jackets trying to get at our food. no traps seen anywhere. obvious that they dont deal with high volume of guests. ok food. i know BBQ is hit or miss, some things on the menu rule, and others are meh. my brisket was so-so, the sides were good... they had tables reserved for large parties all over the place for 2+ hours ahead of the reservation times, and couldnt seat the tables and turn them before the reservation? interior decor i loved at first then realised it was montana version of an LA restaurant with framed photos strategically placed. La Brea (los angeles) bakery bread? really? no good bread made in montana? oh. and their credit card machine broke. on friday. still not working by sunday? i would have had someones head on a plate, or at least a square account set up by then to take cards. to their EXTREME credit, they took checks from out of state to pay for the meals. pluses: waitstaff were nice, not phony, and the bar looked inviting. will give it a second chance next time. def good food for the area.

I absolutely LOVE this place. The food is great! The ambiance is wonderful and the the owners even better. I love the bunnies that live on the property, too. The only problem is I wish it was closer to Whitefish. One of our favorite places to dine in the area.

Love this place. East Shore just gets the atmosphere right. Laid back outside seating and Bunnies!!! The service We've been here many times over the past 10 years and have always been delighted with the staff. This year, same nice waitress as 2 years ago. She's always right there to help and answer questions. This year, one loudly annoying (but entertaining) guest was a bit over the top, and the staff came to ask us if we'd like them to move him to another spot, or ask him to leave. Nice work, that. The food Who doesn't love smoke house food?!!! Never had a bad meal here. The atmosphere Outside dining at its finest. Would only be better if the lake was nearby. One side has intimate seating, the other has big party tables and room for a band!

Had mixed experience. We obviously had a new waitress because our drinks took forever to arrive. One of our party ordered a Caesar salad and they delivered a regular salad with Caesar dressing. Our food was good but our prime rib was cool. Everything tastes good and we had a wonderful time but wished we had a more seasoned waitress.

Came here in the mid afternoon. Great, quick service. Had the smoked salmon appetizer, grilled salmon sandwich, and a side salad. Everything was delicious!
(5)Laura C.
Had a delicious prime rib with spinach and mashed red potatoes, with a delicious roll. The flathead cherry ale was amazing too!! The bunnies all around were a fun surprise too!

First of all the appearance is great! Welcoming atmosphere and great outdoor space the owners must take pride in the facade! - The food is decent but way too over priced for what it is. - The waitress we had was Cheryl and I was told she was the owners daughter. Please fire her or have her in the back of the house busing tables. The bartender had to bring my drink after I asked another waitress to check at the bar, since 15 min had passed since she took my order. Here's the best part we finished our meals at 7:35 pm and it's now 8:17 pm and I still have yet to receive my card and bill back..... She obviously should not be a waitress and you will lose patrons for poor service, even if you had amazing food which is not the case. - So, good food at best, plus horrible service, equals horrible ratings and myself and anyone I know will never return or come here because word of mouth makes or breaks an establishment. People read yelp and I know they will appreciate my honesty. Ask for Lizzy or Krystal if you want good service! If you want decent food then try it out but it's worth the drive to keep going to woods bay to the raven!

My wife and I shared lunch here today. It was good, but not spectacular. We liked the location. It is nicely decorated. What I like the best was the music, the blues. Great music that was not too loud. I ordered a prime rib sandwich. The bread was good, the meat was good, but the horseradish was weak; It needed a bit more punch. My wife ordered the pulled pork platter from the smoker portion of the menu, but got a pulled pork sandwich instead. The sandwich was good, but not what she ordered. They have a nice beer selection and a good wine list. I expect we will give this place another try; I hope our server listens a bit better.
(3)Patrick M.
The patio is one of the most beautiful outdoor spaces to dine in anywhere. Really good food and service too!
(4)Genevieve E.
Smoke house great food, great atmosphere, local libations and bunnies. What more could want? It also has great photos and relics of years past that revive the memories. My favorite are the Cherry pitters, there are five antique pitters that are very cool.
(5)Jess G.
Good atmosphere and great service, even on a packed night! They got us in even without a reservation, and our server, Dianna was amazing. She knew we were starving and made our time great! Thanks!
(5)Robert B.
Simple and perfect sized menu with food thst is so amazingly delicious!!! I had an awesome double garden burger with their inhouse bbq sauce that has the perfect split between tanginess and sweetness!!!!!
(5)Cindy J.
Really great food, and woodsy atmosphere. love the outdoor dining area in the summer. Always great service. My favorite thing is being entertained outside by all the bunnies hopping around on their lawn!! I love to take out of town guests there.
(5)Jacki R.
Came on a quiet December afternoon. The brisket sandwich had a good smoky flavor but was a bit dry. Wait staff was kind, prompt, and helpful. A good microbrew selection.
(3)Christine T.
We had the incredible wild sockeye salmon and the prime rib sandwiches, so delicious!
(5)Danica A.
You won't be disappointed with the prime rib sandwich! It's always a pit stop when I am in Montana that is for sure. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu and their staff is very personable.
(5)Bradley N.
Anyplace with BBQ beans and sockeye salmon this damn good simply cannot be bad. And that's before trying the brisket, ribs, pork, and sampling the impressive selection of local Montana beers on tap (Bayern, Kettlehouse, Glacier Brewing, Big Sky). Sure, you can go bottled, but why when the local brews are this tempting? Don't order Corona or Coors Light here, for the love of all that is sacred in the malt, hops, water, and yeast universe. Please! And don't get me started on how wonderful the carpentry and woodwork are, either. Bob Villa would be in seventh heaven. The outdoor deck is like its own little world, replete with live trees poking through the floorboards. Imagine a Bavarian Biergarten, but transplanted to Western Montana on the edge of Flathead Lake. Think about it: it's an amazing image, isn't it? Inside, the bar beckons, the wooden floors and Western art sparkle, and the food from the kitchen is consistently great. The hickory smoke is amazingly good with wild sockeye salmon. As much as you'll be tempted to try the BBQ sampler (pork, brisket, ribs), you'll want to try their black bean soup and you'll want to try the salmon. And the music? Out of this bluesy world. The live stuff must be great, but if you're here for lunch, you'll make do with blues from the speaker system. But the selection of artists is excellent, like listening to the LP collection of a true aficionado. Blues. Booze. BBQ. That's the slogan. And they do mean it, every word! The location (I think) was once a roadhouse bar - called the Silver Salmon. The only watering hole on the Eastern Shore of Flathead Lake b/t Polson and Bigfork. Now, it's still got the bar tradition going strong, but it's been augmented with great BBQ, music, and mood. From Harley bikers to Glacier-bound travelers to people who just like to have a good time (and Montana has it's fair share), they'll all end up here, on the Eastern Shore. And you will, too. Eventually.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Had smoked brisket and ribs. Well made cocktail. Will go back.

I am seriously disappointed to report that the service quality has gotten so bad that I don't think we'll be back. It's a shame, because the food is great, and as always been great, but when you have to wait for over half an hour for them to even take your drink order, and then another 20 minutes for your drink, it's pretty much b.s.
(2)Michael B.
Nice setting inside and out. Nice patio where you can watch the rabbits running around the pretty landscaped grounds. Food was "ok", small portions and over-priced in my opinion. Service was lacking, had to try to get the waitress's attention when we needed her, we had a party of 8, seems she might have hoped for a better tip if she would have given us a little attention. I would not return here unless some one else had never been there and wanted to give it a try. There are many other much better restaurants in the area where you can get better food for the money and better customer service.

I love this place! Food is great, bar is cool. The owner spares no expense and imagination on the selection of beers. Good quality local micro brews are on tap. There is a commitment to great local beers. Ribs, sandwiches, and burgers are great and made to perfection. They really smoke the food instead of applying sauce to cover up the taste of the meats. Whether you sit in the bar or sit in the dining room, the ambiance is outstanding.
(4)Michael B.
Was a little reluctant to go here because of the mixed reviews but really glad we did. It's not a fast food place so don't go if your in a hurry but you couldn't be waiting in nicer surroundings. The outdoor eating area is very nice and most of it is under a tree canopy. Very relaxing. As for the food, my wife and I split a smoked prime rib slider that came with homemade potato chips and the meal was excellent. We also ordered a side of beer battered french fries that were very good. We went for lunch and were looking forward to going again for dinner.

Best BBQ in Western Montana ...though that ain't sayin' much. Nevertheless, this place has great food and really nice ambiance for outdoor seating.
(4)Parker P.
Very nice! Friendly service, beautiful decor in the dining room and great menu. OUr party tried some of the signature cocktail which were great. Dinners ordered were the barbecue brisket, smoked prime rib and ruby trout - all whihc were very delicious...another person in our group had a hamburger and said it was outstanding. We really enjoyed our meals here and will be back

We recently went back to Montana for a family trip. We always make a point to go to East Shore Smoke House. The service is always great. The food is delicious. They had really fun live music on the patio the last two times we went. The kids love the bunnies they have running around out front.
(5)Marsh W.
Have to add my 2¢ to the other reviews here. We tried it for dinner and everyone loved what they got. All cooked fresh and well prepared. For what it's worth they will also prepare anything on the menu for takeout. One of the best meals of our trip.

I don't think that a review on a business should be done unless you have been there 2 times or more...with that being said, I have been to the East Shore Smokehouse 3 times. I have a select criteria I judge a place by depending on the type of restaurant (e.g. I'm not going to compare prices for McDonald's to a 4 Star restaurant). In no particular order, the main points that any place can be judged by are: 1: Menus---Appearance, selection, and variety 2: Staff Friendliness---Can't always be determined in 1 visit unless you were serviced by several employees and they all were terrible. 3: Price---Price is meant to be compared with other restaurants that are similar to each other. 4: Promptness---Even fast food establishments can be held accountable when it comes to time of service. 5: Decor and Environment--I think restaurants need to make the extra effort to be unique and inviting. East Shore Smokehouse received such a low rating from me because it scored low on most of these points. I found that they didn't have a great food menu as far as options are concerned. For an establishment that tries to sell itself as being something special, the only food that I really enjoyed was the typical "bar food" menu items such as the twice baked potatoes and appetizers. However, I do give them a really good rating for their drink menus. Where else can you get a Mint Julip of such fine caliber in Montana when the Derby isn't on? The prices were reasonable for the items they offered. It takes a lot of work and consideration to make really good barbeque foods on a smoker. The look and feel of the inside of the restaurant is top notch and is sure to be a favorite of locals and tourists alike. The last point I would like to talk about is the promptness of the service. In my opinion, this is where the restaurant needs the most improvement and had received the harshest judgements. The first two times I was there I was served at a mediocre pace. The last time I was there, I wanted to bring a big group of coworkers and friends along for a fun night of dining and drinks. The sad part was that our server, who also happened to be the manager, acted as if we were more of an inconvenience to her and at no point in the evening ever serviced the entire group all at once. She was unnecessarily and inefficiently running back and forth to the bar to get drinks instead of bringing them all to us at once. Several of us had to go to the bar on our own to get drinks because she was not checking with us regularly to see if we wanted more. Having only 9 people in our group, we felt as if she was overwhelmed and made it seem like we had a bigger group than what we actually had. We were seated outside which in itself was amazing due to the atmosphere and nice weather. When the sun went down our crew was in the mood to stay until closing time. We were brandished with a light at our table that barely had the radiance of a children's night light. It also seemed that when the sun went down, the service was near non existent. My friends were as unimpressed as I was, and since I had taken the time to organize this get together I felt extremely embarrassed. It will be very unlikely that I will ever return to this restaurant and can not in good confidence give a positive review or recommendation for anyone who has never been there before.

Great food and excellent service as always. I highly recommend the BBQ pork sandwich, coleslaw, and Glacier Select beer! The only thing I hope that they will do someday is open the outdoor bar area to ordering off of the restaurant menu on sunny days as the outdoor restaurant seating fills up fast.

Not a whole lot of offerings in Polson, but I decided to venture out while here on business. My waiter greeted me warmly, like we were old friends. He was super sweet and very attentive. Ordered a burger and subbed their red cabbage slaw instead of fries. The burger was really good and the slaw was AMAZING! The owner (Jim?) rounded on the patrons and made sure everything was okay. Super nice guy and very personable. I too loved the bunnies on the property! Overall, great place outside of town and worth checking out if you're in Polson.

This is my favorite place to eat on Flathead Lake! The food is fabulous, the beer is cold & the service is always good! I am heading there for my birthday today!

Went to this place in search of prime rib on a summer weeknight on the advice of some locals further up the road. The place definitely caters to the tourist crowd (which means the entrees are a little spendier than I would like), but I really enjoyed the outdoor seating (lots of shade), and it was busy, but they were able to seat two people right away without reservations. If you've got a big group though, definitely make a reservation. Someone mentioned bugs in another review: it's always a risk when you're dining outside, so be prepared for insects to make an appearance. There was live music, which meant that the guys were wandering around the restaurant playing their guitars. It made for some fun ambience, but not too conducive for conversation. The summer special of panko-encrusted halibut with parmesan sauce was delicious. Love the twice-baked potato, roasted potato medley, and creamed spinach. There's a great selection of Montana beers and Montana-themed cocktails. For the prime rib fans: the prime rib is smoked, which is unusual in my experience. It was still tasty and tender, but not what I expected; the best prime rib I've ever had in Montana is still Chubby's of Clancy, Montana (outside Helena).

Had a lovely dinner here. The meals were superb, exceptionally meaty ribs and moist, lean brisket. We sat outside and the service was top notch
(5)Waldemar K.
My brisket was tender not mushy. Great flavor and ambiance. Our surprise of the trip. Will be back!
(5)Linda G.
Great lunch here. Pulled pork sandwich, red cabbage slaw, black bean soup, house made potato chips. All delicious. Very nice staff. Indoor/outdoor seating.
(5)Nick P.
A favorite among the (limited) restaurants in the area. Generous helpings of tasty BBQ and a variety of other choices.
