How special is this place? I'll tell ya. I had the meat special. My wife had the fish special. We shared a bottle of the wine special. The food was eSPECIALly good. And Melissa, our waitress, was extra special. I wish they had a place this special in our town. If you're in Bozeman, you should go there if you want a special meal at a special restaurant.

Living in Houston and planning a wedding in Bozeman is no easy feat. So we took a gamble when we booked our rehearsal dinner at Plonk. AND I AM SO HAPPY we did. Ben was a pleasure to work with; he was very responsive and answered all of of our questions. We booked the wine cellar for the dinner and the food was absolutely amazing and the wine pairings were excellent. All of our guests kept complimenting us on our venue selection based on the food, wine and ambience. Thank you Ben for making the night a success!

Food: 4.5 Service: 4.5 Atmosphere: 5 Cleanliness: 5 This is about as fancy as it gets for Bozeman, Montana. Contemporary design with sweet and stylish wait staff. Large Andy Warhol-esque painting of Audrey Hepburn on the wall, curvy red couches and trendy decor makes it classy, chic and cozy all at once. Our table of three ordered five or six appetizers and we were set! Our waitress even brought out a special sample for us of the local Bison on skewers (from ranch to plate). It was divine! A little on the well-done side, but still packed with flavors pungent, sweet, spicy, salty and tart. The Crab Gâteau appetizer (not to be confused with crab cake) was irresistible as well. So fresh, crab meat and spices cooked and blended to perfection sitting atop large kettle potato chips made in house and golden beets with a decadent citrus based sauce swiveled along the top. I could not get enough! So delicious and light and refreshing! Deliciousness! Yum I recommend coming earlier In the evening. We were seated right away on a Thursday early evening (6:30pm-ish), but as we dined, the tables and couches filled almost to full capacity and the waitresses became hard to find. Overall they all still did a great job working efficiently while catering to all of our table's specific needs. You can dress up or go completely dressed down in your hiking clothes or Lululemon or whatever way you see fit. From what I gather, this is a casual town, with a casual vibe, and even though Plonk has a coolness about it... You'll be just as cool whatever you decide. Would I return? Yes! Absolutely! Good stuff! Enjoy.

We no longer live in Bozeman but still find ourselves looking for a Plonk type restaurant wherever we travel. It is a purposefully curated and fantastically curated wine and cocktail bar. With an equally amazing seasonally inspired menu! Shout out to Ben, Mike and Brett!

I fell in love with Plonk! I met some friends there around 8pm on a Monday night on the patio. There was a nice ambiance, it was small but, didn't feel crowded. They have a great dinner and dessert menu, and not to mention a phenomenal selection of specialty cocktails. The drinks were amazing! Fresh and had great flavor, nicely crafted. I had a pink panther, pineapple express and gin and juice. Plonk isn't cheap, but it's worth it! I will definitely return.

If you like chocolate martinis, do yourself a favor and order a Bag of Blow. It's not on the menu. Best martini I've ever had. Wine pours are painfully small for the price, unfortunately. Great atmosphere. Very modern and fun.

Plonk is my favourite bar in Bozeman, without a doubt. The salt and pepper martini is amazing!

My latest recipe for the ultimate date night... Ingredients: -1 cool summer evening -1 table on the back porch of Plonk -2 glasses of wine -1 cheese board -1 pretty girl (or Handsome man) Combine all ingredients, kick back, and allow the magic to unfold. On a more serious note, I was just visiting the area and happen to stumble into this gem. Gotta say I really dig this place. Hard to attest to the entirety of their menu, as I stuck to the aforementioned items, but I would definitely recommend.

A bit fancy for downtown Bozeman, but occasionally fancy is nice. An awesome place to eat. I had great service and great beer, and ate a delicious special of pork and white beans. Whoever thought that one up did a fantastic job. Definitely would eat there again

This place is very hip, and has great decor. The food, on the other hand, is just good. Not awesome or great - just good. I was here with some colleagues for a lunch, and I ordered the duck confit and a cup of the special soup of the day, which was made with tomatoes, chicken, and cheese. The duck confit looked amazing, but was a bit dry and also tougher than I would have liked. The flavor was decent, and the sage gremolata on the side was quite good. It came with some apple cider braised red cabbage, which tasted ok, and some cubes of braised beets, which I did not care for at all. The beet pieces were a bit too firm, and didn't have a lot of flavor. The special tomato soup was good, but not particularly memorable. I was definitely underwhelmed by the meal, and I felt that there was a lot more style than substance on my plate. The most disappointing part of my meal was the fact that I found two pieces of sharp plastic in my cabbage. It looked like maybe pieces broken off from a transparent plastic cup. Luckily, I saw them before I bit into them. They were certainly sharp enough to injure someone's mouth. I understand that these things do happen, but still, I expect a fancy place like Plonk to do a better job of checking their plates before they come to the table. Portion sizes here are extremely small. After we finished our meals, at least half of the party was still hungry. We then ordered some beef skewers and some seared scallops. I didn't try the scallops, but they did look quite good. The beef skewers were very tasty, but maybe a little too salty. The ginger creme fraiche was great, and went very well with the beef. Again, the portion was very small. Overall, I don't think the food quality lives up to the fancy atmosphere and associated prices of this establishment. It's not a terrible place, but I think there are many better options for fancy eats in Bozeman. That being said, I'm a big fan of the classic pin-up tiles adorning the walls of the men's bathroom.

Love Plonk! Every server I have had has been amazing! Great drinks! Crab cakes are to die for! Love, Love, Love, plonk

Grabbed cocktails here while visiting Bozeman. They were so good that we came back again the very next day. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The bartenders were super friendly and made spectacular drinks. We tried probably six different cocktails, and every one of them was among some of the best I've ever had. The Cherry Sour is a standout among many excellent options.

We were told about Plonk from a local waitress. We heard to get the specials of the day because they were local ingredients the chef made that day. So the specials we got was the bottle of wine, trout dinner & the pork dinner. We also ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer. From the first bite to the last bite our mouths were filled with all kinds of great flavors. Our server, Melissa, was fantastic. When our meal and wine was done we wish we could have done it all over again. It may be a little splurge, but it is worth it!!

Extremely slow service, even on a Monday night! Be ready to wait. The atmosphere is good, but the prices are high for what they offer.

Best service, best food, best place in Bozeman. Nicest, coolest, classiest, servers. The food is locally grown or flown in fresh and is exquisite. The atmosphere is perfect - old brick walls, very cool artwork. We are locals who go there regularly since it's opening and have yet to be disappointed. Oh! And last but not least, their mixed drinks and wines are the best in town! Go to Plonk.

After almost a decade in Bozeman, I have grown to love this place. Believe me, you want to hate this place as it represents nothing that Bozeman is or was and everything it is becoming. A Martini bar in the middle of Cowboy Country is not most people's idea of an establishment they regularly want to visit. However, Plonk has indubitably the best cocktails in town, the service has never been anything but impeccable and the food is great. I am now at a point in my life where I appreciate quality over quantity and if that is important to you as well, I imagine you might really enjoy the place. Their lunch might just be the best value in town, taking ambiance, service and quality into account. While it is certainly filled with pretentious wannabe VIPs, if you can look past that undesirable side effect and are not looking to stuff yourself with an obscene amount of food for cheap, Plonk will satisfy every time.

The ambience looks very comfortable as you walk in looking for a relaxing place to have a glass of wine. However, the wine list is not nearly as extensive as would be indicated by the bottles along the wall. Service was spotty at best. We ordered our wine and the two Reds were brought to the table. It took 5 more minutes for the 2 white wines to appear. We could see them on the bar, but no one bothered to bring them to the table. Then came the real issue. As our son was taking a sip after drinking about half his wine, in that sip he got A DEAD FLY in his mouth. The staff said that couldn't possibly have happened, but we all know it did as we watched our son gag and take the fly out of his mouth. We left immediately (well, after paying for three glasses of wine) and none of us will ever return!

Ok. Plonk is nice. I haven't eaten here in a while, so I can judge that. They have a new chef, so I'm sure the food is better than it was. They have good cocktails, but the tend to be sweeter than my liking. So when I go, I try to stick with beer and wine. However, my friends LOVE the GFC. Plonk is not a good place to take someone you want to talk to, as it can get pretty loud in there. If you want a place that feels upscale w/fancy drinks, this may be the place to go.

The food was fresh, well prepared, and delicious. The service was slow as molasses, though polite. Slow. I mean slow--an hour from order to second course. But the food is quite good.

Wife and I are always pleased when we travel and find wine gems such as Plonk. Great atmosphere for couples and small groups. Ben leads a great staff of professionals and we have never been disappointed. Very good vintages and prices and the kitchen always perfect the dishes we have ordered. Previously orders included: Lamb Tenderloin skewers Montana raised Tenderloin Filet paired with '07 Colgin, '09 Hobbs BTK A++ Thanks Ben

Bozeman is one of my favorite towns, and think this is now my favorite Bozeman bar. Had just a little bit of time to walk along Main St and have a cocktail, and my brother, who is a local (and apparently knows me well) recommended this place. Absolutely loved it. Great cocktails; very cool, but welcoming atmosphere. They've been around for just almost exactly 10 yes, but still doing it up right. Saw the bartender mix up a cool- looking green martini called gpf which looked pretty tasty. Asked him about it, and the hip little old lady next to me at the bar said, it's f-ing good! Didn't expect that. But, OK, I like this place. Had to try it, and it was. It had fresh basil, ginger, lemon, lime, vodka -all kinds of good stuff. Was out here for my grandma's 90th bday on the 23rd, and the bartender John just had his bday (about 60 yrs younger) on the 22nd. The food looked amazing, too, but had to walk back for a family dinner, so didn't get to try it out this time. Definitely want to come back, though. Very cool spot.

This is a wine bar, so I had a cocktail... It was my choice to have a cocktail, but they sounded awesome. I had the cucumber infused vodka cilantro one and it was good, creative for sure, but not great. Not sure what was missing actually. The wine selection was good. Expect to pay big city, as in NYC, prices here, which I was surprised by in a smaller town. They have 2 menus. Lunch and dinner. The both looked good but I did not eat here. Tables around me, it was pretty crowded, got food and it looked good. Since plates were cleaned I think it was enjoyed. The tables are very close together, and they seem small for more than two, maybe three people, yet I saw 4 at some. The servers are very peasant here, that's for sure, but they seem a little distracted, harried, or simply overwhelmed, I'm not sure which. This is a place where people actually wore shirts with collars (guys) and dresses (cute summer ones, but you get the idea) for the ladies. There were no flip flops in the place that I saw, and the visible tattoos were mostly reserved for the staff. In fact, now that I think about it, the clientele were all nicely dressed, one might say well healed, but the staff was a little casual. No biggie, but somewhat striking after the visit. Sit outside in back. That's where the locals sit (I was told by locals anyway). I'd come back here for sure, but would want to make sure I got a better cocktail for the price.

I'm here at Plonk. Just off the Plane. I may not have the best outfit, but I have $$$$. They are flirting as bartenders and ignoring their customers. I may not be pretty - that probably why I"m not getting attention. They continue to flirt and ignore me. I'm the customer. I pay. I might be fat or ugly, but I have money. You lose!

I love Plonk! It's great to sit at the bar and chat with the tenders. They're all great. Yummy drinks, apps and food. Something for everyone (21yrs +). A special treat!

I really enjoy myself every time I go to Plonk! Delicious cheeseboards, fantastic cocktails, & a really cool atmosphere. The GFC is my favorite! I took off 1 star for an unfriendly waitress (yet there's also a very lovely waitress), but I would still recommend this place to anyone wanting to be able to have a conversation with their friends & dates.

There are few places I am unable to live without. PLONK is one. Probably the only one. I never get tired of walking into this familiar atmosphere and knowing that there will be a friendly (and probably handsome) face greeting me...makes me feel like I am right where I belong. The staff are amazing! Their wine knowledge is regularly on point and they always help me find exactly what my palate desires. Food. Oh my. Delicious! And I absolutely love that PLONK supports local farms by using local products when available. My favorite is the Ploughman's platter. I just drool over the cheese selection and who doesn't love meat (if you are a meat eater). But listen...you need to experience this place for yourself. The wine selection is the bomb dot com. Service is fantastic! Atmosphere is chill and decor makes you want to just live here (which I could easily do). Night out with the girls, night out with the boys, date night, or any other occasion, PLONK is your place to go. Two thumbs up and five stars from this local socialite. Xoxo

drinks. the orange juice in the hard picard put it on the tangy side and masked the beauty of the earl grey infused pineau des charentes. the bandaloop was a light, sweet, frothy treat but could stand to be a bit stronger. eats. the seared scallops with confit artichoke heart, preserved lemon relish, roasted tomato, and romesco sauce was a fitful layering of distinct flavors. it tasted high quality but i would have preferred my scallops seared for literally 2 seconds longer. the lemon relish was absolutely beautiful. also ordered the spanish castell de morella, a nutty, sweet goat milk with a light aroma of mushrooms served with smoked pumpkin seeds, apple slices, and baguette. this cheese was perfectly stinky. raging delicious paired with the soft apple flavor and crispy, delightful seeds. this place obviously caters to the richies of the area, giving them a watering hole that could be in any major city. for bozeman, this place rocks (in a major city i'd give them 3.25 stars). it was hoppin on a tuesday night and had some good, live jazz playing. the service was attentive and personable and the patrons were, for the most part, a good, classy bunch. ambient light and a long open layout gives plonk a nice aesthetic.

Soo. First time there and typical me too bar w horrible service. Head to cats paw and save yourself a ton of time. Too bad nice space but the bartenders have been pulled into ignoring a customer vice giving them a beer. Thanks I walked 1 mile in the snow on advice that place was amazing...huge dissapointment

A great restaurant with good food and comprehensive bar. It's a nice place to gather with friends in the evening (especially on Monday nights which offer specials at a lower price). The downside to this establishment is the pretentious atmosphere the customers create which is atypical of Bozeman eateries. Instead of friendly and inviting it has a detached big-city feel to it.

Plonk deserves a solid 4 stars, and should be noted as a favorite dinner and lunch spot in town. If we want a reliably great meal and excellent service, we will go (or take others) to Plonk. The locally sourced menu is a delight - smaller portions but rich in flavor, excellent presentation, and a real variety. They don't make so many things, but what they do make is great. The ambience is good fun - high ceilings with traditional tin, a well laid out bar, and nice art. It gets a bit loud at night, but that can be fun. Had a lovely prix-fix dinner on Valentine's Day this year which was also great. My four star rating is not five for only one reason - the tables. It is apparent that the brasserie aesthetic meant the owner really wanted small round tables, but they are almost impossible to eat at! The preparation and presentation of dishes is on the large side, and every time we go there (and we go often), the server apologizes for the "tiny tables" and scoots any free table over in order to accommodate 2 entrees at once, or two waters, two drinks, and a starter. All in all, one of our favorite in town, and the one we take city-slicker guests to in order to impress. Just please Plonk - bigger tables!

Great bar! It's big but still feels intimate with the blue suede booth tables along the wall. Had a great class of cab but paid $15 for it which is what I expect to pay at home (DC) Lighting is very dim and romantic.

Amazing cocktails, the bartender is a master mixologist on par with those in NYC, Miami, and LA. I usually have one or two drinks max, but I got pretty wasted here because I kept wanting to sample the amazing drink menu. Besides the drinks this place has amazing food, a great ambiance and a hip cosmopolitan crowd you wouldn't expect to find in Montana. The plates where small but expertly prepared and "gourmet" and the people here seemed more NY than MT. When I came here I had just come off 2 weeks filming a documentary with a bunch of cowboys, living in the mountains, eating sub-par food in -30F weather. The night we got back into town, we came here and it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of our production. I felt like I was in a big city having a very fancy meal, instead I was in a small town having a very fancy meal.

We are here last evening. I had the diver caught scallops with wild mushrooms...absolutely amazing. So good, so flavorful I had to remind myself to set my fork down between bites. My husband had the pecan crusted quail...also phenomenal. Very tender and juicy/moist. Bread pudding with kale was amazing. We are back for lunch today

Our absolute GO TO without a doubt! It is so easy to end up here regularly and we always leave happy (which is not said lightly). The atmosphere is lovely on the eyes, patios are great in the summer. It's comfortable for an afternoon lunch in jeans and Patagonia as much the best place to get swanky, dress up and go all out for a special celebration! My honey and I LOVE food (duck confiet, scallops with froie gras and the cheese board is a great default) and you can close your eyes and pick a cocktail and random and it will most likely be amazing. We crave Salt and Pepper and the Gin Blossom and typically I don't even like gin! GFC is a basil muddles ginger infused cocktail that is always a crowd pleaser. The Macintosh and Cucumber Gimlet and Bag of Blow are great too if you want some suggestions. Wine is delish and their prices are totally fair. The servers are great and Ben the manager has made two of our company Christmas parties an amazing experiance. If you were our friend in from out of town and we wanted to impress you with a Bozeman experiance, THIS is were we would take you. If you aren't a friend, you should just go anyways. ;)

We've been starting our evenings at Plonk for years, it's really Bozeman's only middle-brow, see-and-be-seen, first-date, watch-me-throw-down-my-Amex-Centurion kind of place. But the clock has ticked past Plonk's prime time and we won't be going back. The past two visits have been disappointing and somewhat infuriating. The signature GFC has changed to something bland and saccharine more suitable for an old lady's taste. We've ordered 5 of these on the past two visits and it's not an anomaly. The recipe (or mixologist) has definitely changed. The kitchen puts out some good dishes, but the prices are either comical or insulting, depending on your POV. Beware that the "chef's specials" on the chalkboard don't state a price, you have to ask. A rack of lamb was $36 and risotto was $28, for a recent example. The risotto had been sitting too long and had gone cold, and was mediocre. The lamb was excellent, but the side vegetables were way, way overcooked. These entrees are just that -- you don't even get bread, and no one will bother to ask how it is. Service -- as always -- is pretty, fashionably dressed, and useless. Like, server takes drink order and asks if we'll be ordering food. When we say "yes," server turns around without another word and walks to a nearby table. Doesn't return until the drinks are ready (10 minutes later) having completely forgotten that we wanted to order food. Water glasses never refilled during the meal. Dishes not cleared away promptly, so we get to stare at empty plates and drink glasses for another 10 minutes. If we 'd had any idea of the price of the entrees, we would have lodged a complaint about the lack of value and service. As $12 bar food it's decent, but for $100 before gratuity it's a complete rip-off.

Some circles refer to Plonk as Bozeman's "gay bar," though this is mainly by default; the upscale, cosmopolitan atmosphere feels far more inviting and "progressive" than the Rockin' R/Bar Nine cheap-beer-and-bro-fest down the street. First, the drinks. They are expensive for a place like Bozeman, certainly, but for so-called "fancy" cocktails, they're reasonably priced at $5-10. The GFC is a perfect summer drink -- light, crisp and refreshing -- with a satisfying lime and basil kick. The gin and juice is fantastic , offering one of those "it seems so simple, so why can't I make this at home?" experiences. However, I've had a cherry sour overwhelmed by too much citrus, and a GFC sabotaged by syrup, so it seems to depend quite a bit on the current bartender. Meanwhile, the place is awfully dark, with small candles on each table pulling most of the weight as far as lighting goes. Along with the towering brick walls, I can't decide whether this makes the place cozy or just dungeon-esque -- but either way, the dim setting means you won't have to worry too much about makeup. I've never had issues with the service -- the waiters and waitresses aren't particularly enthusiastic, but they are pleasant, prompt, and always on stand-by to refill your tiny glass of water. Overall, I'm not sure if Plonk would stand out in a bigger city, but it's a classy relief from the other, more "traditional" drinking establishments in town.

Great if you know what you are getting. This place has the upscale food and atmosphere, but since it's Bozeman, half the people are in casual attire. I'm a bit of a foody and got the scallop risotto and I think even Gordon Ramsay would have been proud, it was great. Risotto was cooked perfectly and scallops still had that lovely sweet as the sea taste with a great sear. The boyfriend didn't enjoy himself as much as I did and had to get a burger on the way home since he is a meat and potatoes guy and the dinner didn't fill him up. I would recommend this place for a fancier style dinner in Bozeman since those style places are hard to find in this town.

  • Jennifer K.

I absolutely love coming here for drinks and their cheese plates. The atmosphere is great and the servers attentive and aware. Their plonk wine, cucumber drink and local teas don't disappoint. I typically avoid going here for dinner, because most of the options are over priced and the servings small for the high price tag. With that being said, there are plenty of reasonably priced options for small plates and drinks, just don't be afraid to ask if the price isn't listed on a special to avoid a shock when you get the bill. Love their outdoor patio out back in the summer, such a great spot to enjoy a drink!

Food and drink are 5 stars but service is a 1. It is Saturday afternoon and management has ONE server for the entire restaurant. She is fine but way too over worked. Not sure I would come back ;(

Plonked yet? Give it a shot. I am giving it another chance. So far so good. I ordered a drink and the bartender corrected my pronunciation of Glenmorangie. I was wrong to say Glen-more-rang-ee. But he also pronounced it wrong saying glen-mor-anj. Like it was French. It's actually glen-MOR-anjee. Either way if your smarter at spirits than the customer your not. Becuase they are still a customer. Disagreeing with their opinion is a bad idea. It's their opinion. Giving them the facts when they ask is okay if they ask. Waiting on the food. Bartender redeemed himself by going to check up on the chicken I ordered. It's taking a while. But such is the nature of chicken. It takes longer than a thin steak. About as long as a 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch steak. Chicken came out. Adobo chicken with corn salsa and some sort of bean mixture. The chicken was very good. Nice presentation as well. The corn salsa was good. But the beans were a bit bland. Ok very bland. And a bit crusted on the top like I got the ones that form the crust at the top after being under a heat lamp. Overall the food was 3.5 stars out of 5. The service by the bartender went from 2.5 stars to 4. He kicked onto high gear. The atmosphere is always nice. 4 stars out of 5. Doing better. The price is 2 stars out of 5. Too expensive guys. 15 to 20% less would be perfect.

The food is consistently well prepared and presented, and the cocktails rock! I have found the energy of this bar to be consistently high, and it's always a stop for me when passing through Bozeman. I would give Plonk Bozeman 4 and one-half stars. I'm a fan of classic cocktails. While the trend is toward exotic new-fangled cocktails, I see more and more bars like Plonk bringing back the classics. If you've not tried a Negroni, I would suggest it.

The food and cocktail were excellent and nicely priced during lunch. The server was friendly and attentive and displayed an excellent memory of our orders. The best thing about this place though is probably the decor. Make sure to check out the tiles in the men's bathroom.

I came to Plonk for a mid-afternoon glass of wine and an appetizer with my mother-in-law, and for what my husband describes as a "hipster bar" I liked it. It was pretty empty when we were there though I imagine this is not always the case. We were seated at a high top table behind the bar, and I sat looking out toward the bar. This is a pretty cool space and location. It's right in the middle of Main Street, which if you're unfamiliar with Bozeman is where all the action happens. It has a lot of old features which I love, but it is also renovated so it's a usable, 21st C kind of place. The food was good, and it would be nice to come back on a busier night.

Here's why you should go to Plonk: Wine, appetizers and atmosphere- and if you feel like classing it up. Delicious wine and great selection at all price points. I'm always impressed with what I order. My friends all love their cocktails, too. The food is wonderful, I ordered the bison empanada and lamb quesadilla on separate occasions and they were delicious and filling. My friend loves the pear salad. And the atmosphere- Plonk is a relief in Montana. You feel like you've stepped into a little trendy urban hideaway, in a far away city. For a moment, you are not in one of most rural states in the U.S. where cowboy boots are considered dress shoes. Great little spot that I love to visit.

Typically, it's pretty darn good. The food is always meh, but it's not really a food place. One of the last times I went, however, I experienced REALLY bad service. I came in enough to know several of the people who work there, but the older waitress was so rude I don't think Ill be back any time soon.

5 stars for the drinks. 4 stars for the food. 1 star for the service. We used to go all the time for drinks. But it seems that we can't ever catch the bartender named Ron anymore. Maybe he left? The food is yummy, although very overpriced. Service though is lacking! It's very slow and if you're not dressed nicely the service seems to be even worse. It's definitely one of the more snoody bars in town. Don't go after a hike or something if you want decent service!

Plonk is a great place to grab a drink in the evening. The dinner menu is good, but not amazing. Lunches are fantastic. As far as cocktails, I love their GFC and the wine list is very nice. I am a fan and would definitely recommend for after work drinks and lunch meetings! It's dim and noisy, so not great for big group conversations.

Amazing dinner and wine pairing experience in the cellar downstairs. From first course to last it was exceptional. The staff is knowledge and enthusiastic about the food and the wines.

I absolutely love this place! It's such a cool bar to hang out in. It's a pretty big place and there are many options of where to sit. The patio, high top tables, the bar, or couches in the back. I haven't eaten here other than the Cheese Plates and they are awesome. Very inexpensive but high on quality and quantity. 6 cheeses for $13 is unheard where we live. The chef plate is spot on with a nice mix different cheeses. They actually give you a fair amount of bread, not just a few slices, like other places do. Service has always been great here and the bartenders seems to know how to mix a cocktail. I tend to drink beer but my wife's mixed drinks have always been pretty great!

This wine bar could be seamlessly set down in a trendy area of any Metropolis. A bit of 'city life' out in Bozeman. I had one of their fancy cocktails- with cherries crushed (muddled) in the glass and everything ($10). My date had their featured wine selection ($8/glass). We also split one of the deserts- a cherry cobbler-like item with pistachio nuts topped with cardamon ice cream. It was pretty epic. I really liked it (but didn't LOVE it, which I was a bit surprised by.) I wish I could tell you what it was missing, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Brittany, our server, was lovely. We felt very well taken care of, even though the place was packed! My date wasn't thrilled with the featured wine (a red blend from Washington)- but not enough to send it back, it just wasn't exactly what he'd been after. I'll definitely make a point to come here anytime I'm in Bozeman.

My wife and I stopped into Plonk for some pre-dinner drinks and the menu looked so good we opted to have some appetizers. We split the plowman's platter, with had a nice selection of meats and cheeses. I was impressed by the pâté. My wife had a Capri salad (which she said had too much salt for her taste) and a pint of Double Haul IPA. I had their foie gras with seared scallops with a nice Californian sparkling wine. Service was attentive. The only downsides was the music volume/taste in music (loud/bumping technoesque beat) and the tables are so close together that if you get stuck next to a loud boorish person your evening won't be much fun.

Oh Plonk...you are so fabulous. I will always, always come to Plonk when in Bozeman (and I hope to be back in Bozeman often!!) Plonk is one of the only places in Bozeman that doesn't have the "Montana-style" dining feel to it. It's classy, upscale, and really just the best place on Main Street. The drinks are so fabulous and the staff is great. The food is to die for and the atmosphere is wonderful. It's a good place to get a little bit dressed up and go for a date or out with a couple friends. Wonderful bar when you first enter the door and suchhhhh a lovely patio out back. Clean restrooms. Clean restaurant. Great, great place!!

Good drink and bar tenders obviously know their craft. Problem is this place is quit large and staff is not experienced or managed well enough to provide even mediocre service. This was Monday night a although bustling not slammed. In two hours we got one round of drinks. After total frustration requested close out and ended up having to stand at station get tab so we could pay. Multiple passes, eye contact, verbal requests and after all that got "Oh sorry boss, I got caught up talking wine.". The worst kind of cocktail waitresses is one that picks favorites, dismissive to others, and at the end of the day who goes out to be treated like that. I would rate lower but the product was tasty even if the price was high and the service poor.

What makes this place great are the great prices, especially their wine prices. Usually, when you go to a restaurant/bar, you should expect to pay at least double for a bottle of wine as compared to buying it retail. This place offers a flat corkage fee (under $10). Their prices are at retail, which makes for plenty of righteous nights at this upscale hipster hangout. Their food is very creative and executed quite well. Very wine-friendly food selections. The vibe gets amplified tremendously when they host guest DJs. You forget that you are in Montana. This place could easily make it in a big city. Wait service is hit or miss. If you are looking for perfect service, you probably won't find it here. Don't expect a sommelier to recommend anything. You're kinda on your own on this one. Nevertheless, they offer a very expansive selection of fine wines here. Overall, the service here is lackluster. Plan on getting a bottle and if your food arrives, you should be golden in terms of not needing any assistance.

Diverse menu. Huge selection of whiskey, bourbon and single malt scotch. Don't be fooled by the wine bar tag, much more than wine. The atmosphere alone would make this a repeat stop, but the food makes it a no brainer.

Definitely not the type of place I thought I'd find in Bozeman MT. This place was super cute, they had the best selection of mixed drinks, most for about $8. Mine had basil in it, and was AMAZING! The service on this particular Friday night was a bit slow, but our waitress was super friendly, especially since this was the 3rd stop in our impromptu "crawl". I would definitely recommend checking this place out, would be a great date night stop or place to meet up with girlfriends.

The food never disappoints. One of Bozeman's well appreciated restaurant surprises, Plonk mixes decent cocktails with top notch food fair. The whiskey selection is better than most local shindigs, but don't be fooled by the over waxed mustache of the hipster bartender. The vermouth selection leaves much to be desired and the bitters aren't the home chemist/rogue-mixologist recipe of a Portland trained expert as I'm accustomed to. Just take it on the rocks and enjoy the fantastic cuisine. On the plus side, no cheap cherries; dark and rich, just like I like it. The red deer filets were amazing and the delicious bitter spinach-garlic sautéed to balance the sweet demi-glaze was a welcomed treat. The locals are easy to chat up and super friendly (if you're into that sort of thing). Crossing my fingers for you that you're there when they don't have overly loud, live music. If so, just relax and pretend you're in SanFran. Everyone else is. Seriously, worth a top 3 places to eat in Bozeman.

Drinks were alright, and the food was good. Nothing really stood out, though. The seating was a tad crowded; we felt like we were pretty much sitting in the laps of the couple next to us. Overall, it's a good place to go, but it's not somewhere that I'd rave about.

Walked into this wine bar because the menu outside listed a couple of sushi-like specials. I was disappointed to find the menu hadn't been updated, and the specials were not available, but we stayed anyway and so glad we did! The food was really creative and delicious! Add in a nice glass of wine and I soon forgot my initial disappointment. The atmosphere was perfect and service was also excellent. Will definitely return.

Plonk is overpriced and bland. I've been there more than a handful of times and every time they are out of at least two of the things I wanted to order. Their cocktails are as expensive as in a city and not half as good. The waitstaff doesn't really know the menu or what's available at the bar. They either need to lower their prices or figure out how to make their offerings better. Also, if you don't have the special flight of the week or any cheeses, why not just take it off your menu? (The menus are little pages on a clipboard...it's not that hard)

Music can be loud in the evening, service can be uneven. Cocktails are spectacular--unusual ingredients, house-infused liquors. On a recent visit to the area I went there for lunch 3 times in one week.

I love Plonk! The atmosphere is modern, cool and hip, but not snobby. The food and drinks are inventive and yummy - fresh, local and organic, too. And the live music is lots of fun! We've been in several times in the last few months and have had very good food and service each time we've visited. One of my favorite dishes is the Quinoa Stuffed Pepper - it's drool worthy! I think it tastes like a really fresh and tasty enchilada but without the greasy cheese and sauce. I've also had stellar steak and veal at Plonk with fantastic sides and sauces. Order the Plonk Cosmo so you can munch on the candied ginger while you catch-up with your friends and listen to some great live music.

We usually visit New York two or three times every year, and I don't think you'd find a more upscale, deco place there than Plonk!! Loved the sidewalk bar for drinks (try some of their own concoctions!!). It was such a pleasant place and the service was excellent. We went inside for dinner, and the great ambiance and menu selections just wowed us. Our food was delivered promptly, it was done to perfection, and we agree with local reviewers that Plonk is a WINNER!!!

"Plonktails" are fantastic! The food is consistently good; although I've had some really overpriced vegetarian specials. Delicious, great atmosphere, fun and friendly staff, nonetheless! I love this place. Tasty lunch AND dinner. Whenever we have friends in town we always bring them here. Not fancy, but a fun night out when you want to get a little sassy with your girlfriends, or to have a hot date with your sweetie.

Walking in to the restaurant I was pretty impressed. Atmosphere was cool, the style was modern, and the servers were hot. The menu on the clipboard was an awesome idea and the drinks that were on the bar menu are even better. There were all kinds of innovative cocktails and wines to fit everyone's taste. Unfortunately, the food does not match the vibe or caliber of the drinks. The actual items on the menu sounded delicious..,,but were cooked to order mediocre at best. My pappardelle was meh, the pho was meh, the mozzarella/tomato salad was good and the strawberry shortcake dessert was bleh. I could see this place as a really fun spot to hang out with friends, have drinks and snack on appetizers. It is too bad that the main meals did not make this restaurant a stellar experience.

Ãœber cool, hip restaurant (with a great bar) that could be located in any hip city in the nation. So of course, it's in Bozeman, MT! This place is perfect if you are wanting to sit at a great bar, while imbibing some terrific vino. They also have great cocktails and good stuff to nosh on. Updated review on the food 9/10/13 I think they have made a major effort to upgrade the food. I had previously deemed it good, I am now upgrading it to very yummy. The food has improved significantly since I first ate here three years ago. This is a great place for awesome wine, good cheese, strong cocktails and people watching. I always have a great time at the bar, be it drinking some beautiful wine or amazing cocktails.

This was my favorite place to chillax in Bozeman when I lived there. They have an excellent drink menu, and their cheese trays are outstanding and vary daily. The overall atmosphere is upscale for Bozeman, but casual attire is permitted and appropriate. I REALLY wish there was an equivalent in the Chicago area.

If you go for lunch....have the fabulous Ruben sandwich! The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars?......really tiny tables, makes it tough for 4 people. Great waitstaff.

We parked our car in downtown Bozeman and just started walking along Main Street, looking for a good dinner spot, when we stumbled upon Plonk. We were drawn in by the groups of people sitting on the street patio, checked out the menu and decided to stop in. In addition to the patio seating out front, there is a separate patio area out back. The restaurant is sectioned into a "bar" area with seating along the bar and high bar tables. There are "regular" dining tables on both ends of the restaurant near the front and back entrances (with a long bench seat that runs the length of the back seating area). There are also comfortable couches and oversized seats with coffee tables for patrons who choose to lounge for the evening. Our waitress was great - she had a strong knowledge of wines that they had available, was able to make recommendation. The food was fantastic - the small plates were reasonably sized for sharing. I ordered an Arnold Palmer that came in its own cantor. The wait time was pretty from the time that we ordered to the time food was served. The prices were reasonable - perhaps I've been living in the city too long. We ordered almost everything available on the dining menu and enjoyed it thoroughly. We regret not being able to come back again this trip, but would have loved to taste some of the entrees that they offer.

This place has a very unique atmosphere for Bozeman and a great wine selection and unique cocktails. The owner/manager is very passionate about his restaurant, it's always nice to know your business is appreciated! Oh and it's summer time and they have the best patio in town out back!

We went to Plonk on the 20th of July 2010. We were a large group of 8 people. Service was good and quick. The waitress friendly and knowledgeable. All the other guests in my group enjoyed their food. I had one of the night's special: "escolar on a bed of cilantro jasmine rice, with a fava bean puree..." Sounded great. Right? Well...my dish unfortunately was quite awful. The good thing is, the fish was cooked right. Flaky and tender. The rice was a joke. It was a gelatinous lump on the plate. It had been overcooked to the point of coagulation. I have never seen anything so bad. The cilantro if any was invisible. The flavor non-existent. The mouth-feel really bad. I have been cooking rice for over 20 years so I know my rice. The fish. Though it had been cooked well, the salt on the fish seemed to have been sprinkled on using a salt grinder. It was lumpy came forth in surprising bursts of saltiness. As a result it ended up tasting too salty. The plate was garnished with spinach that was also overcooked and stringy. The fava bean puree was OK. Artistically spread out in semicircles around the main ingredient. Overall, quite a terrible experience for something that sounded so good in its description. For the price I expected better. I did not return the dish as I was with a group of people I had met for the first time, and I did not want to ruin their evening. The reason I would not go back there is because there was NO reason for the dish to end up that bad! It was a simple enough preparation that the chef should have been able to do blindfolded. Who is to know which dish might go bad next? I might get lucky or I might not. Not worth the risk.

My take on PLONK: pricey, small portions, very slow service, underclad waitstaff. This is a good place to go for the rare (and expensive) celebratory cocktail. It's also quite a pick-up scene, if you are into that. Don't take your parents there, because it's too dark to read the menu, and you will leave hungry.

My husband and I visit Plonk often. Heads up- The service is hit or miss! One night it will be a great experience and the next I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Here's some great advice, ask for Jeanine, Jackie or Corin (hope I spelled it right) or find what you hope to be a good waitress. if this were my first visit, I'd never go back. We were there 45 min. and drank one beer, where the hell was my waitress? Had to ask another waitress (after 15 min) to put our food order in because we were STARVING! Love the atmosphere but sometimes I wonder if my waitress isn't sleeping with the manager.

One of my favorite places in Bozeman. Food is great, cocktails and wine selection are even better. Love the loungey, sexy, atmosphere. Wonderful service as well. Plonk and the Ale Works were always my choices for date night, just depended on the mood we were in, as they are different atmospheres.

My wife and I visited Plonk every day at varying times of the day for a week and love it! Everything from fresh and unique salads to Venison medallions with perfectly carmelized root veggies located in an upscale yet funky downtown environ. This place is a gem on Main Street. I love Montana but there is only so much white gravy and Bison burger a city-slicker can handle. Plonk is the answer. Start with Duck confit spring rolls, they're a must! I agree with previous reviews that the staff lacks particular knowledge about fine wine and food, but lets put it into context: its Main Street Bozeman not Manhattan (although it could be)! This should not discourage a true foodie who knows how to create their own experience. Besides one can always ask for a manager if you feel the menu and it's offerings daunting. Michael assisted us in selecting a perfect pairing. The wine list is extensive...have fun, we did...and thought the prices were quite fair. Wine not your thing!? No problem the signature cocktails at Plonk are World Class. Drinks with integrity, premium ingredients, and a heavy enough pour to satisfy. Order at the bar or take a seat in an oversized lounger and listen to some vinyl of your own or fresh tracks from Plonks selector. Will we be back to Plonk? "You Bet!"

This wine bar has a beautiful set up...outside space on Main Street and a garden patio in the back, plus lots of different places to sit inside, varying from lounging couches and bar stools. The bar is beautiful, and their cocktails, which I wish I had tried, looked delicious. Instead, however, I had their only flight available, which featured Grenache wines. Maybe I just don't like grenache very much, but these wines struck me as mediocre, although they did improve over time. I was disappointed. I was also hugely disappointed with the waitress, who spent most of the time chatting with a friend who was at the bar, hadn't even tried the Grenache flight to give a recommendation (or warning), and couldn't recommend a fruity, red wine. "Ummmm, actually I don't really know....I know the whites okay....". Bottomline: a beautiful and popular place, but I'd stick with the cocktails and not expect much for service.

I had a nice early lunch here the other day. Very cool modern-hip-trendy vibe inside. I had a roast beef club and a cup of soup, all satisfactory. Looked like a really good, lengthy beer and cocktails list. Our server was friendly and chatty. Would go again next time I'm in town.

While it might not be the friendliest place in town, the servers at Plonk do take care of you - including good suggestions for the indecisive - and the cocktail list is fabulous. The atmosphere was pretentious early on but seems to have mellowed out more recently. I love heading there for girls' night or date night... nice seating for chatting and the food is great (the stuffed peppers are especially tasty). Definitely more refined than most of the bars in this college town - a good choice for those of us who are more than a few years out of college.

Plonk has the best nightlife in Bozeman. The selection and quality of drinks is unsurpassed, the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable too. The food is pretty good with the cheese board in particular being to die for. The atmosphere is what really does it for me though. It feels hip, trendy, modern and classy without being pretentious. Bring your wallet though, this place is priced like a nice big city bar. Drinks are typically $8-$15 each.

Hit up Plonk for a couple of cocktails on a Wednesday night. Definitely a fun place. Our bartender was friendly and knowledgeable and seemed to know everyone who came into the place. I had a Midnight Manhattan (dark cherry flavored, a nice twist on my standard cocktail) and a Maker's Ginger (just what it sounds like; delicious). Dug the pinup girl tiles in the men's room. Nice counterpoint to the standard Bozeman bar. But, yo, seriously pricey. I don't usually pay two figures for cocktails in the big city, so it's quite a shocker here. Still, enjoyed the Plonk and would go again.

Plonk is the only bar I go to. I like to stick to places I'm familiar. I think Plonk became our hideout because of location and atmosphere. It's in downtown Bozeman, handy for going to dinner somewhere on Main, and then walk over to Plonk. Don't expect to be greeted when you walk in the front door. I've never gotten a greeting or a smile from any of the waitresses apon walking in the door. You always seat yourself, which is nice that you can choose. It usually takes a few minutes before they bring you a menu or water. They never keep your water full, if it were up to me, I'd have them leave the bottle so we can drink however much we want. The waitresses are decent when it comes to professionalism and courtesy, but they always wear low-cut tops and bend down to take your order, therefore allowing any guy at the table to look all the way down their shirts. Plonk is nice if you plan on drinking with friends and plan on being there for 2 or more hours. If you're wanting to quickly get in and out, Plonk is not the place for you. The music is always really loud, but if you like that type of thing, it gives it a nice feel. There's always a line for the bathroom, because there is one for each men and women. Their food is tasty and unique, but if we want a big dinner selection, we will usually go somewhere else and then to Plonk. Plonk is on the pricey side, usually can't get out of there for less than $40. I like this place because it's what I'm used to. It's probably not the best or most popular bar in town, but it's decent.

I met with some friends for a little business and social gathering and upon my arrival I was quite impressed by the ambiance I found here. Now this is a wine and restaurant bar in Montana folks where SUV's, casual clothes and your monster mountain boots are worn on a daily basis (Yes even in the summer) So...It was nice for a city gal like myself to see girls dressed up in slinky dresses, high heels and some of the men in casual/smart attire. (Sans cowboy and baseball hats) Visualize a yuppie place and this is it, without the attitude. The building is long and has exposed brick inside. They have artwork throughout, a tin ceiling, their lighting is vintage and came from an old railway station I do believe. Very cool. Even the bathrooms are decorated nicely. My guy friends told me to check out their bathroom because they have vintage pin up girls tile in theirs. The girls bathroom on the other hand was girlie and nice. (Unfortunately) The outside patio has used old metal containers and machinery from farmlands. They have planted some beautiful plants to make it feel even more unique. Nice area to sit outside, quaint. I decided to go with their wine list because after all this is a wine bar. It's hard for me not to order a beer in Montana because their micro brews are absolutely fantastic. BTW their beer selection is reasonable if you do not want to drink with your pinky finger out. :O) I thought their food menu would be difficult for a veggie like myself, after all I am in the meat is not murder land, but I have to say their menu was awesome. The appetizers are great and their dinner menu is not that huge but just the right size for a wine bar. If you want a full dinner then this place is not for you. Nice size portions for the place. The DJ played some jammin' music, but unfortunately their sound system is painful. It was played loud because of the size of this place but because of that, everyone was shouting at one another and at the end of the night we were all hoarse. They seriously need to cushion the sound here it bounces off the walls, get some subwoofers or something please! It is pricey, but you get what you pay for. We all averaged $60.00 each and we did not drink a huge amount. The food was the main expense, but I cannot grumble because it was all good. I forgot to mention the desserts. They must be awesome because I had three of them! So much to choose from I had to do it. I will return here in the day and hope it is quieter to converse with people. But if I am feeling a little anti social I will arrange to meet them here in the PM, so I can't hear a damn thing they are saying. Sssshhhh! Don't tell!

Amazing cocktail list! Cucumber Cilantro Gimlet is delicious, and their Mojitos set the bar. We enjoyed sipping our cocktails out on the cute back patio. The food was very good with some interesting experimental flavors. We ordered coffee with dessert and were brought a French press! I would definitely come back (several cocktails on list left to try!!!).
