It's been a long time since I've found "my" place to enjoy a Saturday morning breakfast, but alas I've found the Beacon! I've tried most other breakfast resturants in Oxford but have not found any of them to be quite right, some the food is okay but the service sucks and then some are just the opposite, here at the Beacon everything was just great! Mind you that the facility shows a little age ( don't we all ) but you quickly forget how things look by how well you are treated. Service was the best I've had anywhere, food hit the table before I finished half a cup of coffee ( and they never let you get below a half cup without coming by to offer a refill ) Eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns for under $5 !!!! Hard to believe. And it all it the table hot! I'm kinda picky about that. My job puts me in resturants all over the mid south , so I can speak here with years of experience, the thing I noticed the most is how the staff appears to work together so well as a team, the place works like a fine watch, everything moving together to work as one. I was very impressed and look forward to returning here again and again.

My heart is broken to leave this review. I've waited tables for 20+ years and know things don't always go as planned. We got seated after the morning rush and waited 45 minutes to eat. People that sat after us were finished eating before we even got our food. We had simple meals and then when we were served they were out of biscuits, which YEP the people that ordered after us had biscuits. The food was mediocre, potatoes were old and greasy, the pancakes had a metallic after taste BUT, the grits were amazing. Our guests (which had never been there and just moved to Oxford) weren't even asked if they wanted refills. They sat for 15 minutes with empty glasses until I stopped our waitress and asked her to refill them. We didn't complain once about the wait. I mentioned the disappointment to the waitress after our meal and she didn't apologize once but gave plenty of excuses and threw her cook under the bus. I was so excited about eating here and sharing an Oxford tradition with new friends and I was SO EMBARRASSED!!!! I think what finally turned me was when the waitress sat herself and started eating her own breakfast while our guests had empty glasses and we still hadn't been served. This is just our experience and I'm certain everyone's is different but I couldn't NOT say something and after expressing our feelings at the restaurant and getting nothing but excuses I decided I needed to share this online.

This place is a local hangout and definitely fits the whole in the wall, dive. My family had breakfast here and other than the greasy potatoes it was a good pick for breakfast, better than the Big Bad Breakfast just down the street.

It's a place you have to give a try. We went for breakfast. Had an omelet which was ok, grits were fantastic, service was terrific. I agree with other reviews - many locals - which is ok with me, super friendly and full of info. Would definitely go in lieu of any chain. Very authentic Southern diner - love it!

I ate here MANY times during my undergraduate years at Ole Miss. This is a classic greasy spoon Southern diner. They always have offered an impressive breakfast that I rarely have ever taken advantage of as I'm not the biggest fan of breakfast food. My favorite meal here is lunch and they have a great choice of plate lunches along with an impressive menu with all sorts of classic Southern and diner staples. Their most famous dish is probably the "Big Bubba" which is a huge hamburger steak. The dinner menu is generally the same as the lunch menu. This place is always full of characters and I've never had a boring moment eating here.

This place is ok. My salad was plain. They were out of spaghetti, which I find hard to believe since its so simple. Kroger keeps it in stock.

Good for breakfast and lunch. More of a old-timey locals scene.
