An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

If I have to give a simile, I'd say that Rusty Taco is like my new brand of crack. Aside from the high price range that seems to accompany all food served on 4-wheels, Rusty's fried chicken, cajun shrimp, and grilled fish taco had me at their first bites. The zesty and crunchy lettuce toppings complemented so well with each of the meat selections that I found myself wondering if I should unleash my gluttony and go for a second round. I happened on this mobile joint yesterday and I'm totally glad that I did. I highly highly recommend the fried chicken taco, especially when it's served hot. Now that I know there's a restaurant for this in St. Paul, I'll have to stop by and get some more for sure!!

I had a major craving for tacos and have heard from several people that Rusty Taco is a great place to hit. These individuals have eaten at the actual restaurant and not the food truck itself, but still stood by their experiences as being great. With a few coworkers, we made out way to the truck on Marquette and 9th Street. The line was pretty deep, about 25 people waiting already by 11:45AM on Friday afternoon. We figured since the line was so long that it had to be great! We waited, waited a little more, continued to wait, still waiting and finally 25 minutes later, we were able to place an order. The menu is very simple. Choose any two of the twelve tacos listed ($7), you have the option of fresh made chips (with dip, $3)) and a soda ($2). I went with the Roasted Pork Taco (#2) and the Rusty Taco (#9). The ingredients were very fresh, which is essential to great tacos. Fresh cut onions, cilantro and fresh cut limes for that list bit of flavor kick. The roasted pork was good, a little bit on the dry side, but mixed very well with the cotija cheese and pickled red onion. The Rusty Taco had a mix of pineapple cilantro and shredded pork. I did have a tortilla structural integrity fail on the Rusty Taco! At the end of the day, here's how I rate the experience: Food Quality/Taste: 4 Stars Service: 1 Star Price: 1 Star I gave only 2 stars because of the painfully slow service (25 minutes?!?!?!?!) and in my book, $10 for 2 tacos the size of a coaster and chips/queso is pretty steep for the food truck crowd. I was still hungry afterwards!!! *Note: The crew REALLY needed a 4th person. The reason why it took so long was because the order taker was also getting chips/dip and drinks. The actual preparation of the tacos was FAST.

My office moved from Northeast to Downtown right when Rusty Taco opened, so I was thrilled to see that they had a truck - especially one with (to my Midwestern sensibilities, at least) interesting taco fillings. Pork and pineapple? Beef and potatoes? Dr. Pepper BBQ-marinated chicken? Yuuuuup. And is it good? Sure. It's good. But it's only just good. It's not great - and I was kind of hoping for great. The pork in my Rusty Taco tacos lacked flavor; for all I knew, it could have been chicken, since it was devoid of seasonings and somewhat dry. At least RT nails it on the queso, served with sturdy (but clearly from a bag) tortilla chips. And they did prepare my choice just the way I like it - with crunchy onions, crumbly cheese, and a snap of cilantro - leaving me full but not stuffed. But for the $10 price tag (for two tacos and queso), you can venture to Midtown and find better, cheaper, fresher fare.

I have been a bad bad boy. I've totally neglected my Elite duties once again. Good thing I have a free saturday afternoon as Mrs. G (aka thing of beauty) gets her learning on. Now that I work downtown, the world of food trucks have become accessible and my, how my world has changed. Let's start with Rusty Taco. Despite it's unfortunate branding, Rusty Taco isn't half bad. The key....is to order the right thing. Super tricky when there are 12 tacos on the menu. I've been here twice and I now know what to order. First, I would avoid anything meat...sad but true. I haven't enjoyed their roasted pork or their beef tacos. Second, I would try the seafood. The Shrimp tacos had a nice crunch and they didn't skimp. Last, come on guys. The chips and salsa on the side are nice but you have to upgrade your plastic containers. They're the size of thimbles. how am I going to get my monster tostito into a thimble? When you're charging $10 for 3 tacos, give me some width gents. This place is good if you need a bite and other lines are long. Once again, sad..but true.

Meh... I've had ALOT better. I got two tacos for $7 with no chips or salsa. That is a bit steep for two tiny tacos (good flavor, not spectacular though and even a little bit cold). I heard one of the employees saying "next time you should do it this way..." about my meal, which wasn't exactly comforting. Maybe it was because the girl didn't wash her hands before making my tacos or maybe it was because I didn't get any chips and salsa with my meal. Overall, this was a disappointing experience.

Decent tacos, I had the pork and the fish. Fish was pretty good, pork was OK. But 2 small tacos with no chips or anything else for $7 is a bit on the high side for me, especially from a food truck. I probably wouldn't seek them out, if they were there and I was craving a taco I might buy one, but no guarantee.

Tried this at the Chaska farmers market tonight. When it was my turn to order, I was told they ran out of what I wanted. Ordered something else instead. Moments later as I'm waiting, I can clearly see and hear one of the employees saying to the other "we COULD have made more..." And the other just shrugs. I continue to wait and someone comes out and takes all the sauces and napkins in and folds up the counters. Nobody noticed or heard me protest it seems. They hand me the food and basically drive off, a half hour before the market even closed. Now the best part, for $20, my wife and I had tacos that consisted of primarily a pile of raw onion, a sprinkle of cilantro and the smallest bit of the driest pork I've ever had. Perhaps they should have juat said they were out of pork too? Worst. Taco. Ever. Rude staff to boot.

This is one of the few food trucks that is totally worth the wait. I had a fish taco from this truck at the Uptown Pridefest Food Truck Festival which was light and tasty, but it was nothing compared to the BBQ Pork one my boyfriend got. Yummm! I made sure to get one of the BBQ ones today, along with "The Rusty Taco" which had grilled pineapple and onions with pork. Both were delicious, but the BBQ was the best. I'm tripling down on that option next time. What I love about Rusty Taco is that unlike other food truck options its not all deep fried, beer battered, grease-dripping bellyache in a carton. Veggies on top, a little cilantro for fresh taste and you've got yourself a delicious, filling lunch that doesn't weigh you down. And don't forget about that legit hot sauce, they aren't messing around with measly jalapeños with that good stuff!

I just got back from my first visit to the Rusty Taco Truck! I ordered two tacos, which came with chips and salsa for $7. The chips are really fantastic and some of the best I've ever had from a restaurant. The salsa was fresh and also quite good but it was damn near impossible to dip the chips in to the tiny, narrow cup of salsa. They also had squeeze bottles full of different kind of salsas to try and those would work better if they were more portable. It would also help if the salsas were labeled so I could tell what they were. I was too nervous to try any not knowing how they would work with my taco selection. I ordered one of each of the brisket tacos and they were both good. The meat was tender and juicy and the shells were fresh and pliable. It's really nice how you can mix and match tacos and also customize them if you want to avoid certain ingredients (cilantro ICK!). Overall, it was a good experience.
