I have to open this review with the fact that I am a regular at this location. And yes, I have been known to wear a cowboy hat. With that said this is a Bar! This is not somewhere you bring your children, or meet for Sunday brunch after church. This is a bar. Once you learn the ropes of the place it is a blast. Sure the waitresses can be tricky to catch and sometimes you have to wait a while for a bartender but the positives far out way the negatives. First they have the best deal on a hamburger in town. Every Wednesday is $2 for a burger, with .50 for each additional topping. Where else can you get a 1/3 lb bacon cheese burger for $3? And the burgers are awesome. Now to go with those burgers they have tots, and let me tell you I am hard pressed to find any tots in town that rival them, their salty spicy goodness dancing on your tongue, not to mention they are on special everyday for happy hour. Speaking of which, this bar has thee single best happy hour in town! I do not know of another place that will serve you a Jack Coke, Heineken, Morgan Coke, or really any other reasonable mid shelf liquor or domestic and most import beers for $2 a piece. $2 a Piece! Most bars will offer you a couple of tap beers and rail booze for .50 off........ Now if your hungry they have multiple menu items to choose from: Calamari to Potato Skins, a Big pile of Wings(at least 5 diff types) to yes Tots, and more, all for half price @ $4.50. Again, a big bang for your buck. Not to mention a huge patio and great people watching. So yeah service can be iffy the first time you go, but once the girls get to know you, they will always greet you with a smile, have your drink ready to go and it will be your regular spot from 3 - 6 pm, trust me!

Nice food, drinks and good service. Went there to meet an office colleague who left us a while back. The place does look like a run down place from outside, but when you step inside you realize that this is a nice place to sit down have a drink and relax. The place is just crowded like crazy even on a thursday night. Nice beer, nice peanuts. Ordered some potato skins which was awesome. Definitely going back

What the hell is up with this place ? I went up there Sat. night with a girlfriend to have some beer and relax, only to be pelted by someone with a dishrag and another jerk with peanuts. After knocking the culprit on his ass, I complained to security and he got the manager. I told them I want the guy thrown out and that I should be comp'd a few beers for the inconvenience. Well he just laughed and said no, and what did I expect "This is a cowboy bar". We split because if you ask me, this is a douchebag bar !

Stopped here to eat quick because the atmosphere looked nice. Inside was dirty and nasty. Decent menu items it seemed but our food was not good at all. Disgusting! And service was the WORST! Our severs name was Betsy. It was awful. She almost seemed drunk and did not have good serving qualities at all and was completely rude and got our order wrong. She also never offered to fix it. Horrible experience and will never be back!

These guys are great, and Anastasia is a top notch manager. They get very busy, but they take care of you.

No dart boards, pool tables, table top shuffle board! NOTHING a bar should have! Weak drinks. Also heard they're getting their license suspended for serving underagers. Unfortunate because I love the downtown and Bloomington locations

Good food. Nice bloody bar. Not very kid friendly. We came in for brunch to have breakfast and there IS a breakfast menu.... Unfortunately there isn't a breakfast menu for kids. Really sad considering the kids were excited about eggs and such. Wasn't horrible. Won't take this kids again. Leave the family at home if you come here! We might try a date night!

Terrible, terrible service. It took us more than 30 minutes before we finally flagged a waitress down (by all us holding our hands in the air like school children) She then dropped off the menus, told us the kitchen closed in 15 minutes, and never came back. Seriously, she ignored us for over a half an hour, and then never came back. Unbelievable. It was made even more ridiculous by the fact that she had to walk past us multiple times on her way to the kitchen while studiously ignoring us. Won't be going back, would never recommend it to a friend.

We went back to try it again in hopes that our previous experience was just a one time thing. I have to say that the service was a lot better-our waitress didn't make us feel like a inconvenience & was very friendly. The food still was not as good as it used to be, but I blame that mostly on myself as I tend to be a picky about my food. Overall it is a great place to go for drinks & we will be visiting here again.

Cowboy Jack's has to be one of the best suburban bars I know of. There aren't many bars within walking distance of the suburban neighborhoods that are a good time on a Friday night. Its packed! Also, the drink specials are great. Happy hours go until 9 or 10 i believe, even on Friday. Also, I love their queso!

A cowboy bar sans cowboys in the burbs is just not my cup of tea. They do boast a nice little patio that's good on a sunny summer day, and I do appreciate the themed dining for a little bit of fun (though the gigantic wood-carved chairs are rather unwieldy). The servers were also nice albeit it somewhat absent at some points, even on a lazy Sunday, which I am sure pales in comparison to the crowds seen on a Friday or Saturday night. The food was the real detractor for me. As per usual, I assume that my dissatisfaction with the menu comes from my inclination for fresh, healthy options. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. Two fried eggs with 2 pieces of bacon (I opted to remove this), shredded cheese, an admittedly tasty green (tomatillo?) salsa all atop 2 deep fried (ugh, gross) tortillas smeared with a bit of black bean pasta. It tasted alright, largely because anything with enough cheese will taste good. But, I didn't like the inclusion of deep fried tortillas and the black beans could have been a little more abundant. Overall, my experience wasn't horrible. But it really was just "meh." And, again, take my review with a grain of salt as I am not the target clientele for this type of restaurant.

Happy hour is cheap but the service is beyond bad. Servers are all preoccupied with looking hot and flirting with male guests. I'll pass.

Food was good and the service was great! Very friendly staff. It was a little too loud for us and difficult to carry on a conversation because of the volume of the music, but they have free ice cream cones for the kids!

My friends and I decided to try Cowboy Jack's to meet up and grab a drink and a bite. The staff was good but the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered the Ruben and the meat tasted like it had cleaner/soap in it. While I did eat it, I was hungry and I did not want to see what else they might send out the side salad was worse. The lettuce was all wilted and not fresh. I would not advise eating there. Oh yes one of the other diners asked for enchiladas and the server (she was great) pulled out a laminated picture of them from her note pad. The laughs ensued and he did order it but why do you need a laminated photo to sell an item??? The photos and layouts offered for the enchiladas did not match what came out from the kitchen. The massive "lake" of sour cream was crazy. He ate it and I did not ask how it was so I cannot rate it other than the looks and the crazy laminated photo.... Oh yes as for the beer selection it was what you can expect for a chain (Friday's, Applebee's, Chili's, etc). Would I go back???? If I had a choice no. It was nice to see all the TV's and sporting events on them.

Cowboy Jack's Karaoke Event (Wednesdays) - is horrible. I took my cousin, who was visiting from AZ on March 5. We called ahead and were told it started at 9:30, it finally started at 10:10 pm. (I just called - they now say they start setting up at 9:30 and start about 10:00 pm. - maybe they've had too many complaints.) The problem: their female DJ does not follow a list of the guests who put in requests. My cousin signed up first (no one else had given a slip to DJ and we were watching) but only got to sing 1/2 hour after Karaoke had started. Then, it was 1-1/2 hours and he still hadn't sung again! Some, who sang after my cousin, had already sung three times! I complained to management and they immediately went to DJ, but by then my cousin was too upset to perform. What a shame, because we saw people come in and hug or shake hands with the DJ, then pretty soon they were up there singing! If you go, keep an eye out for the female DJ - make sure you don't get lost in the shuffle. We won't be back for karaoke...

Great Happy Hour Prices...which is the only reason I would go here. This particular location caters to the regulars. I watched a "regular" client get served twice before I was ever even acknowledged. I've had the food several times and was beyond disappointed. Again, this place caters to regulars...even down to karaoke Wednesdays...if they don't know you...good luck! If you're looking for strong, cheap drinks and an obnoxious college bar atmosphere...this place is for you...just make sure you go everyday or you might never get served!

I very much prefer this location to the one in Uptown. The staff is more attentive and it's FAR less innundated with bros. It is more of a pleasant mix of bikers and families. The happy hour is rockin - $2 drinks, 1/2 apps. We tried the BBQ Chicken Sliders which were actually tasty. We topped them with their "Cowboy Ketchup," which was kind of a house BBQ sauce. Impressively enough, our waitress was able to describe all of the components of the sauce. After HH had ended, sampled the quesadilla and queso dip which were not as good and terrible respectively. Our dining partners LOVED the little smokies. Even though it is on a freeway and a major road, the fountain in the pond outside of the patio does a good job of disguising the road-noise, which is awesome. All of that being said, I likely would not come here if it isn't HH because the food just doesn't seem good enough to pay full price. But like I said, love the HH.

Lots of issues. First the service was pretty bad. The waitress tried her best but it was very busy. She even stated that the service was bad and gave us a free soda because of it. The food was horrible. I had the open faced chicken sandwich. The sandwich looked awesome but was the most salty thing I have never eaten. The wife had a chicken breast sandwich and sweet potato fries. She had no issues with the sandwich but said the fries were over cooked. The place looks like it would be cool to hang out and knock back a few beers, but I won't be back. The 2 sandwiches and 1 soda with tip was $30.

WOW!!!!! Is this place always like this? Once again, I was talked into going to a place that I would never go to on my own accord. I went on a Saturday night, around 9:30. When we walked in, the place was pretty full without being packed. I thought, ok, this isn't that bad, I will live through this. Then about 10:30 hit and suddenly the place was so packed, you couldn't move. I have never, ever, in my life, been any where with so many real life cougars. It was NUTS! TONS of women that were 40+, fake tans, fake boobs, dressed slutty chasing after guys half their age! It was crazy!! There was one hitting on a friend of mine relentlessly with no shame- until she learned he was about 10 years older than she thought. She quickly walked away. I laughed. Hard. The fun didn't stop there though. As the night progressed, it filled up with every single douchey guy in the Twin Cities Metro area. Hell, I think some even may have traveled from far away lands to have a Douche Reunion or something. They were every where! All of them very drunk, very full of testosterone, and very rowdy. Which leads me to one of my biggest complaints- there aren't any bouncers or security making rounds making sure people are in line. There was a guy at the door checking IDs, and a cop at the door. There is a big need for bouncers presence in this place. I finally had to leave after being pushed to the floor, into tables, into people, etc, far too many times. And I don't get it, since it was for the most part, an older crowd. I may not be a cougar, but I am far too old for that shit! Needless to say, I will NEVER go back there, ever.

I went there for a second time and still not impress with this place. Food is bland and a bit overpriced. Servers wasn't attentive at all and our table was ignored. I think I'll spend my money somewhere else.

I met a few friends here for drinks/dinner a few weeks ago and was I pleased! We nabbed a table outside which I hear is hard to come by. I devoured an amazingly good Buffalo Chicken Wrap. I'm not sure what deals they offer, but after 10pm my drink was only $2 (Stoli Raz and Sprite). Totally worth checking out for drinks and the food was soooooo good!

I was very excited to try out a new restaurant with my family. This was a huge disappointment. Atmosphere ok, service was fair. Not a fun place at all. The food was terrible. It was way overpriced, and the amount of salt ruined the food. They probably put so much salt on the food because there was no other flavoring. I ordered a grilled shrimp salad, 3 cold pieces of shrimp, a plate of lettuce, just lettuce, and a cup of tasteless salad dressing. My daughter ordered a wrap, same story, no flavor and not at all what was described on the menu. My husband and daughter had ribs, tasteless (except for the salt) It was served with steamed (frozen carrots and green beans) Awful. Even the french fries were BAD. Mash potatoes were not good either. I have never commented on a restaurant before but this was so bad I wanted to save others from a similar experience. I was surprised that a family of 5 could all go and not one of us enjoyed anything about it. We did mention to our waitress that we were not satisfied with our food and instead of trying to correct the situation all she did was say she would let someone know. Don't wast your time or money here.

What a great place! We had the best time ever. It was fun and noisy and the peanuts were out of this world. The kids totally enjoyed tossing shells on the floor and their pizza and salads were tasty. I loved my meatloaf sliders and coveted my husband's pot roast. We had a big group of nine and it worked out great. My parents who are smokers enjoyed having the outdoor spaces. That day was chilly so they huddled around the fire pit. It's always hopping there. I'd go again any time.

The crowd during happy hour in the early evening is OLDER men which is why I would never choose this place again. This really old guy sat at our table and kept staring at me at times when I was talking, it was extremely awkward and uncomfortable! It's hard to get a table at the bar during happy hour which is one of the downsides. The crowd might be a little younger in the summer when their patio opens but this place still would not be my first choice. I've also been here on a Sat. night and the crowd is mixed, older people + younger people... The drink specials are dirt cheap which is nice and it's convenient if you live in Plymouth. I would rather spend my evening at Cowboy Slims in Uptown since they have better music and a better crowd.

I've been to Cowboy Jacks over a dozen times, yet, I can't possibly call it anything above "A-ok", it's really more like a "Meh" to me, but happens to be the closest bar (open past 11) to my shanty. The good: -$2 late night Happy hour - Free peanuts inside, and the right to throw shells on the floor -Cozy campfires inside and outside -Nice patio with bar service in the Summer -Nice football specials (like free taco bar at half time, or cheap wings....but they change often) -Neighborhood bar.... (sure, there's BW3, Old Chicago, and a couple other chains & hotels with lounges within a few miles, but this is pretty much IT for anything resembling nightlife in the immediate area) The Not so good: -Food is in no way impressive. I like the hot wings, but can think of a dozen better, and have never been impressed my any of the many other entrees and apps I've tried there. Portions are large, but always bland. -Entertainment: I'm not a fan of the live music they have on weekends. Country covers with enough cheese thrown in to get the girls to dance. Sometimes midweek beer-pong clubs (seasonal? Members only). -Annoying Demographic: Seems to be lots of guys there to ogle the hot bartenders (I've never seen a homely or male server) in their too tight shirts at any time. The weekend crowd (it gets Packed) is typicaly VERY heavy on Wayzata/Plymouth 20-something snotty/pushy jocks & D-bags, mixed with a healthy dose of mid-lifers, and the occassional tough guy or small group of homeboys (Plymouth version) that starts a fight or causes a scene. Service is mixed. I've had really good (at the bar), and I've had really bad (in the restaurant). Overall, it's average, and I would compliment certain bartenders for actually remembering my name and drink after months between visits.....if I remembered THEIR names. : P It's not a bad place, I just don't like a lot of the grub and the scene there on the weekends, mostly. I'll be back to enjoy happy hour in the fresh air or catch a game on cable (and steal peanuts for my parrot) many times more I'm sure!

Cougar Den Alert! If you're a middle-aged man after some tail, there's plenty to be caught here. Personally, I don't understand what the attraction to this place is. I've been here a couple times with friends, both on a Friday night--so the place was PACKED. The first time I walked in, I said to my beau, "I can't believe they have saw shavings all over the floor--I knew it was a country bar, but this shit's ridiculous!" Upon further inspection, I noticed they were peanut shells--I don't know if I was relieved or further disgusted. It certainly didn't make for a very good first impression. We ordered some beers, STOOD around forever waiting for a table to open up, and then finally snagged a spot outside where a few of us could at least hop up on the railing. Things were going along fine until some dude started hitting on me (right in front of my boyfriend), and then another one spilled beer on one of our friends because he was just that drunk. I agree with Jen B...this is pretty much a bar littered with cougars and douchebags. The service has usually been alright (although sometimes the bartenders are so busy they fail to offer any REAL service). So, I guess you could say they do their job, but that's about it. If you can avoid getting stepped on or spilled on, this could be a very interesting place to people watch--there's certainly some entertainment to be had, but that's about it.

Just plain gross... I came here with some friends the other day hoping to grab a few brews and escape the heat after work. The place wasn't terribly busy but it still took a while for any waitress to notice our table and serve us. I understand that the extreme heat can have an adverse effect on electrical/air conditioning systems but holy hell, it was hot in there! I noticed the bartender pour our beers out of a pitcher that was in a fridge behind the bar. As expected, it was not only slightly above room temperature but flat and gross...like beer from a keg that's been sitting outside all day after a college party gross. Not wanting to drink pre-poured beer we ordered bottles for the next round which were OK but also not refreshingly cool like one would expect from a bar...on a hot day! Nasty beer and heat aside, I've ordered the pizza from here before and it was decent but really salty.

I like this place; I don't really like the price. The food is good and has its moments - especially the tater tot casserole (yes, I did just write that!) and the nachos (real cheese melted on there!) and you can eat peanuts and throw them on the floor when you're done - but I usually debate before going if it is worth the price. Fun atmosphere overall and we've been there a few times.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would! I've never been to such a horrible place to eat in my life! Not only was the staff rude and "too busy", the food was disgusting and it was so noisy, you could barely hear yourself think! Long wait times, when they say "20 minutes", expect to wait at least double that, if you're lucky. The food tasted like salt and pepper shakers committed suicide on it, although, I can't blame them, this place is horrible! The food LOOKED awesome, but that's as far as it went. 3 of the 4 people in my group got food poisoning, what a great way to spend what was suppose to be a special dinner before the guys left to serve our Country. When we complained, the waitress was SO rude and said, "I'll get someone" as she was walking away. Then after about 20 minutes some guy finally came to the table. He said he would take off the two appetizers we had since we had ate the meals already, which "ate" consisted of three bites! The meals looked the same as when they came out darn near, but the "Manager" didn't even bother to look to see how much was still left on the plate. I think it was unfair to make us pay for food we didn't eat, it's not our fault we don't like overly salty or overly peppery food! The only meal that didn't cause food poisoning at our table was the meatloaf, which was also very peppery. Stay away from the Tater tot hotdish, chicken sandwich (open faced) and the Steak, well, unless you like food poisoning and horrible food, then go for it. I wouldn't suggest going to this place, keep on driving and hit up a better place down the road!

  • Tatyana O.

Beware, cute decor doesn't mean good food or service! If you like salt or pepper shakers dumped on your food and enjoy food poisoning, then this is the place for you! I think they spent more time making the place look cutesy themed than they did on training their staff! Went there for a special dinner, and let's just say it totally ruined the night/special dinner. Two meals tasted like a pepper shaker was dumped on them (Chicken open faced sammy and tater tot hotdish), another tasted like a salt shaker exploded all over it (Fillet steak). The appetizers were really good, but that was it. The wait staff sucked to put it nicely. When we complained about the food, they took $14 off the bill, which was close to $100. Really? THREE inedible meals? The tater tot hotdish gave one person in our party food poisoning. I won't be back, and advise you not to waste your time either. VERY noisy too!

In my opinion a bar is what you make it and this one isn't any different. However, the first time I walked in, I turned around and walked out. This bar fills up w/ complete drunk guys it seems. As far as age is concerned it was all over the board which is nice to not feel old being in my early 30's. However, even with a group of people (men and women) I was approached a by a few drunk guys wanting to talk. My husband didn't find it amusing. The band was decent, drinks cheap and nice when it's warm out. Will I go back...maybe..will I stay late, maybe not. Cops are on duty, but if you are not doing anything wrong it seems likea great idea to me. Cabs are plenty. I didn't try to the food, but the peanuts were tasty at about midnight when I was hungry.

I always appreciate on the occasion that I post a review that is less than three stars that I end up hearing from the management. I recently had a nice exchange with one of their management team members Jesi, who nicely expressed her disappointment with my experience and looked to set the situation right. After a couple of e-mail exchanges we both ended up on the same page and am very happy with the outcome. Next time I'm in town to see the in-laws, I'm sure we'll be stopping back into Cowboy Jacks!

Though I do end up here more often than I'd like lately (sometimes you have to go where your friends are), I don't particularly like it! I'm pretty sure I know a few of the creepy old guys some of the other commenters mentioned and they are definitely there to pick up younger women. Aside from the chicken nachos, which I think may be the best I've had (super tasty rotisserie chicken!), I've yet to eat anything there I enjoyed. The tater tot hot dish was too meaty and kind of blah and the sunnies that I was sooooo excited to eat were extremely overseasoned. The broccoli that came with them was so salty I couldn't eat it. They do have some decent live music and a karaoke night that attracts some pretty good singers but if you're not into that you're not missing anything.

Cowboy-themed bar with unremarkable typical bar food for lunch and dinner fare. Free peanuts are shelled and shells tossed on the pine floor, consistent with the decor's somewhat rustic western-themed charm. Happy hour food and drink prices are exceptional, even if the food itself is not. Staff are usually quite busy, and service is pleasant if somewhat uneven. Latenight, an interesting mix of "woo girls", cougars, and bikers make it an interesting place to people watch, depending on one's tolerance for such things. Live music many nights of the week makes conversation difficult anywhere in the facility.

The unexpected benefit of the economic downturn is the departure of the big box chains from our fair city. Plymouth, as the number one place to live, as per Money magazine, has offered relatively little other than nationwide chains. Cowboy Jack's has opened where TGI Fridays used to be. The restaurant has taken the cowboy concept and run with it quite well. It is not a particularly large restaurant so you are better off calling ahead. The restaurant would be well served by providing pagers instead of the ad hoc system they currently have to notify you that your table is ready. With 2 children, we had a wait of 25 minutes on a Saturday night; not bad. The store is well-prepared for children with activity sheets and crayons. Upon entering, there is a large barrel of peanuts available for waiting patrons. A nice touch and is common in other similarly themed restaurants. I had the Rotisserie BBQ Chicken. Very good with a zip to it. My wife had the Tater Tot Hot Dish. Really flavorful and hearty. I would recommend this one. Kids had mini-corn dogs and chicken fingers. Pretty par for the course on that one. We asked a question to our server about the menu. The manager came over to answer our question and spent a considerable amount of time getting our opinions on the restaurant and the items we had ordered. He was knowledgeable and very cordial. He recommended that we try the doughnuts. Specifically, he said they were as good as the state fair. The doughnuts were very good and better than state fair quality. HOWEVER, the caramel-brandy sauce that comes with the doughnuts is amazing. The head chef came out to see how we liked our meal. As with the manager, he was very knowledgeable and cordial. We enjoyed our experience and plan to be back soon.

My husband and I have been to Cowboy Jack's 4 times since it's opened. Overall, we like the bar and atmosphere, although it's quite loud, yet the food is sub-par. The first time we went late on a Friday night, enjoyed the beers, peanuts and live acoustic music. The second time we went for lunch and had the beef stew which was meaty and quite good. On another Friday night we took our teenage daughters and all ordered the fish fry. It was horrible. We were told we'd receive 3 pieces of cod and I received one big lump of a VERY heavily breaded and over-fried piece of fish. In trying to peel off the breading, I got to the fish which was undercooked and cold - and had a very strong fishy odor. One of my daughters nearly gagged from the odor and none of us came close to eating half of what was brought. It was extremely busy that night, our waitress appeared overwhelmed and never asked how our food was or commented on the amount left on our plates. Last night we went with a neighborhood group of 10 - the location is great for us - so we thought we'd try again. We warned everyone not to order the fish fry. The appetizers we ordered (nachos and queso dip) also came out cold and were extremely salty. The chicken wings were good - large with a good zip to the hot sauce. My husband and I split a pizza which came out cold and was pretty tasteless. Two of the men had ribs and enjoyed them - a huge platter with big bones - and two of the women shared the open face chicken sandwich, which was also huge and plenty for two people. They said it was great comfort food. We'll probably continue to visit Cowboy Jack's since it's so close to home but won't be ordering food. It will be a good bar to visit now and then.

It seems like the popularity of this joint has decreased from when they opened Feb 2010. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet - low key atmosphere, or even if you want to have a conversation with a friend. The food is what I chalk up to "bar food." However, Are you looking for a $2 happy hour, with pretty stiff drinks, good music and a lot of rowdy people? Then this place is for you! It's hard to say no to $2 drinks, good music, and laughs.

Fun casual bar with a western motif, usually some country playing in the background. I go here most mondays with a couple friends for trivia night, which is always a good time. The staff are friendly and fairly attentive depending who you get. Food and drinks are standard, but they have great happy hour specials. After 10 appetizers are half price and draft beers as well as rail drinks are 2$. i particularly like the complimentary peanuts and always love a cowboy style bar that lets you chuck the shells on the ground. Overall nothing particularly fancy to make it stand out, but a solid and fun place to drink with friends. Downsides: its in Plymouth, which isn't particularly convenient for me, though i suppose i cant hold where i live against them.

Good happy hour deals.....but food still isn't worth it!! Salt salt salt. Very loud. Great place if you want to be 40-60 and think your young again.
