Having recently moved to the area, I was stunned to have found this gem! I was skeptical of a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall let alone in Eagan but it's phenomenal! The food is always fresh and delicious, margaritas are acceptably strong, and the service is great! As someone who only eats chicken or seafood, my menu options were more limited than my counterparts but still a huge selection. I have enjoyed the Burrito California, fish tacos, and combo dinner (chicken burrito and chicken enchilada) and have always left satisfied (ok, stuffed!) and with leftovers. Highly recommend!!

It looks like a regular hole in the wall place. But when I am in the mood for steak fajitas I find myself craving El Parian. Their salsa is better than average. The prices are hard to beat. In short, a wonderful lunch choice if you are in the neighborhood. It is clean, quick, tasty, inexpensive, filling. Do you need more enticement? Sorry, tired today and fresh out of witty remarks and superlatives.

This is my favorite place to eat Mexican food. Ridiculously good service every time I've eaten here! Doesn't matter who is waiting tables, they are always quick to ninja a drink fill or top off a dangerously half empty bowl of chips and salsa. The margaritas at this place are my favorite non beer drink anywhere! And they don't mess around, strong but very smooth. I've had near half the menu, and I have yet to find something I wouldn't order again. Fajitas are fantastic, and the guacamole is a must order!

Best kept secret in a town (Twin Cities) filled with great Mexican restaurants. First of all there was soccer playing on the flat screen tv, great works of Mexican themed art - really intriguing works - and a busy, happy welcoming staff. Our party of six was seated immediately. The chicken fajitas were heaven-on-the-taste-buds excellent: a slightly smokydry rub spice, not like the fast food chains, and the flavor of smoked chili infused the vegetables too which were generous, sliced perfectly making the abundant chicken the star of the dish. Beef chimichangas, also delicious, authentic and accompanied by tasty re fried beans et al. Guacamole, sour cream. All real deal goodness. The margaritas, guacamole, salsa, all straight from the heart of a kitchen in love with serving wholesome delish authentic food. Epic. The price was right, making it a real value too. I highly recommend this authentic food and experience. Lucky Eagan. What a jewel you have here.

Just moved to Apple Valley from up north and was worried about finding a good mexican place and we looked at the reviews on here (YELP) and it was a great mexican place. Awesome service with awesome food, will definitely go back real soon.

Their salsa was great as well as their rice and beans. I loved the enchiladas and they have good service and good margaritas.

First and foremost, I read a review here saying that El Parian may not stack up to Mexican cuisine in Arizona...NOT TRUE! Mexican cuisine in Arizona is TERRIBLE! I spent 3 years in Arizona and found maybe 3 places that I would consider good Mexican cuisine (in the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe/Glendale area). El Parian does something that many places in Arizona fail at, it's proteins are not overcooked! I've had the following several times: Enchilada Verdes - My favorite from this place, the beef is never dry. Although the last two times I had this, the sauce was quite bland. Enchilada Rojas - Same as above but this supposed spicy sauce is bland as can be. Would not even notice it except that it drenches the enchilada. Ceviche - A huge plus, nice burst of lemon flavor, every now and then you get a jalapeno kick to it (I got the fish ceviche, it also comes with shrimp). Fish Tacos - One note, I've had better, but I enjoy the fact that these fish tacos are not deep fried fish pieces. Beef Chalupa - Same as enchilada rojas, bland and not noteworthy. The chips and salsas are nice. Reminds me of a place in Phoenix, Arriba. For the greater Twin Cities area, this isn't bad, but I would definitely caution against expecting the bold spicy flavors of the South. Texas and Southern California are the places to go to get Mexican fare.

I stopped here for lunch one day. I had read the reviews and was excited to try it. I was not disappointed. I ordered the lunch order of chicken fajitas. They were cheaper than most, both still filling enough not to finish. The fajitas came topped with a "sauce". I'm not sure what all was in it, but i did not really like it. I order fajitas just about every time I have Mexican, and none have come with this. Most just have chicken, peppers, and onions. I just wish the menu would have specified that the fajitas came with it and I would have ordered mine without - guess I know for next time. And there will be a next time. Chips and salsa were good. Service was good.

I'm going to toss the Challenge Flag on the reviews that rated this place below 4 stars. Let's reset our expectations here... Now, I'm not saying that El Parian show be held to a lower measuring stick, but I think this place is in a league of their own. I visited this "divey" joint near the Iowa border (ok, it's in Eagan and I live in Maple Grove) with my co-workers for a late lunch. It's located inside a strip center; so, there is AMPLE parking. Right when you step inside, you're hit in the face with wonderful aromas and a curious/homey feel. When I say curious, there are extra large portraits of Hispanic themed people/places on the walls. It simply adds to the charm of this family owned restaurant. We were quickly greeted and seated in the middle of the dining area. Menus passed out and drink orders placed within 60 seconds; super freaky fast service, what out JJ's!!! The menu is PACKED full of everything you can think of, from the classics to grilled t-bone steak over grilled veggies. After a massive breakfast coma, I landed on Lunch Special 3; which consisted of a beef burrito special, beans and rice. After a short wait, our orders arrived all at once (6 people) and what I thought to be a smaller lunch portion ended up being a MASSIVE plate of food. Imagine the size of a Chipotle burrito, subtract a 1/3, then add a crazy amount of rice and beans. Seriously, I'm afraid of what the dinner portion is like... Food = Amazing. Plain and simple. Fresh ingredients, full flavor, no detail left out. My beef burrito was filled with fresh grilled beef and seasoning, topped with fresh cut tomatoes and lettuce. Combine that with the rice and bean, and you have a full on Mexican food coma. Don't pass this place up, stop by for lunch or dinner, order anything off the menu and enjoy the amazing and caring service (seriously, I simply turned my head to look around the joint like a good Yelper would and the waiter came over because he thought I wanted something). Go. To. This. Place.

Inexpensive, food flavor/taste is very good. Place is small and nothing fancy but seems clean and authentic. Been there a few times and would not hesitate to go back.

Awesome food!!!!!! Dining experience can be a hit or miss, but their food is always great. Another reason to love this place? Take out! Call them and your meal will be ready in 10 minutes.

Really yummy food. La Parrillada is our favorite. Like a fajita but so much better.

    (5)
  • Addison K.

The food was average except for the fajitas which were over salted and the vegetables were soft. It was like they had been taken out of a frozen bag, not at all fresh. We told the server that it wasn't good, and his response "sorry that's what it is."

This was the best Mexican food I have ever had. The fajitas were phenomenal!! The shrimp chimichanga is to die for!! Even the kids loved their lunch specials. Great food and service for the money. Our waiter was extremely attentive to everything that we needed.

Hole in the wall place with great varieties on the menu to fulfill the taste desires. Try the shredded beef burrito with hot salsa on top. This is my once a week lunch or dinner goto place.

I'll give credit to Yelp for making me rethink my restaurant choices and not always going for the same ol' same ol'. Today was a casual business lunch, and we both wanted Mexican and needed a quiet place-this rules out Chipotle, and while I like El Loro, they often have a roaming mariachi band. Not cool. So, Yelp pointed us over to El Parian. First impression-super clean and a sincerely warm and friendly staff. I can't remember the last time a waiter made me feel so welcome at a restaurant. Extra bonus points for bringing me water with lime when I asked for it. 90% of the time when I ask for lime with water, I get lemon. I was pleasantly surprised to see the menu had a ceviche tostada. I haven't seen that on any menu in the Twin Cities. We ordered the ceviche and split a couple chicken enchiladas since neither of us was famished. The chips and salsa were very good; I'll ask if they have a hotter salsa the next time I return. The chips are also served with queso dip, kind of weak-but I'm not a fan anyway. The food came out very fast. The ceviche was everything it's supposed to be-bright, fresh, flavorful...delicious! The chicken enchiladas weren't bad-the chicken was pulled breast meat, so the meat was a little dry. The rice was pretty much there for the sake of filler. I like to be a little more ambitious in my selections, so next time I'll go for more Overall, my first experience was more like a 3.5 star-the ceviche tostada alone was five stars, as was the service. The check was less than $15, which I consider a bargain given the quality of the food, restaurant cleanliness and service. I look forward to returning and getting more ambitious with my selections.

Amazing place to eat! My favorite Mexican restaurant EVER! The service is wonderful and fast. I get something different almost every time and each thing I've ordered has been seriously amazing. I would recommended the tostadas, chalupas, fajitas and tacos for sure, but honestly like I said everything is good there. Love the addition of ranch with your chips for free. Yum! I eat here about every 3 weeks. Never disappointed!

Not too sure about reviewing this place, since I don't want it getting crowded El Parian has great service and really good food - CHEAP BABY!!. Everyone I go with finds something they really like. Hot tip - order the combination plates - more bang for the buck. My favorite - combo - chili rellano, chalupa, and enchilada - now yer talking. The refried beans and rice meet my needs - you might wish to avoid me after dinner here. Love it. Also there is an older waiter - could be the owner or manager - very thoughtful - keeping an eye on everything so you get good service - nice guy

Given the reviews we gave El Parian a try. Unfortunately for me - it was nothing special - the food was pretty bland. Perhaps made for the suburban taste, but a disappointment lacking authentic flavors. In fact the food was so bland that I used half of the bottle of the habanero sauce. The staff were friendly enough, and I even gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked our waiter what the restaurant's specialty was, but he couldn't say. Bad sign. I'm afraid I won't be heading back any time soon.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in the Twin Cities! We were regulars - once a week for about a year. The staff greet you from day one with "Hola, amigo!" The service is always sharp, tight and super friendly. The prices are incredible - where else can you find an authentic, fresh, made from scratch meal for a family of four for under $20??!!! Crazy. We usually order tacos (pollo, grilled pollo, el pastor and carne asada) - all are amazing. We have them supreme (with tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and sour cream) or straight up with cilantro and lime. The meats are top quality, well seasoned - never salty, greasy or gristly! The toppings are always fresh. The house salsas - red and ranch - are fun. Off the menu, they sometimes have pineapple or strawberry water - a light mix of freshly squeezed juice well-iced. Wow! The best summer drink of all time to go with your tacos. El Parian is a diamond. I'd be there eating tacos right now if I could.

Thoroughly enjoy this Mexican restaurant. It's kind of a hole in the wall but food tastes great and it's inexpensive. I would also recommend the fried ice cream. Yummy!

We are always on the lookout for a good Mexican restaurant and we will for sure be returning. Service was good, food was good and freshly made, not a single complaint. It was also less expensive than most other Mexican restaurants I have been to.

This was our first visit and we'll definitely be going back. This was amazing. It's a small place but don't let that deceive you. The service was great. All 3 of us in the party loved the food. We also got a pitcher of margaritas - go for the Texas version. By far the best mexican restaurant in the area.

The Enchiladas Guadalajara may be the most delicious thing I've ever shoveled in to my face. Service was fast and very friendly. The romantic paintings on the wall are priceless!!

I've been here a few times now for lunch with co-workers. I've always ate something from their lunch menu so cannot say much about the rest of it. The portion size for their lunch menu items is just perfect.... I can still go back to work and do some work instead of being in a food coma. Their service is good and quick. When we started going there it never used to be busy but these days it's starting to get pretty busy, but their service is still good and fast. For being a mexican restaurant in a strip mall in a suburb, I wasn't expecting much from it taste-wise but I was pleasantly surprised. The food is not tex-mex, it's authentic mexican and they will adjust the spice level for you. Their default spice level is pretty low. I would definitely suggest trying this place at least once.

Positively one of my favorite resturants ever. The food is super yum and the staff is always on their game. My favorite thing to order is the Burrito Parian. I would dare to say that this is my favorite thing I have ever eaten under the banner of Mexican food. Ooey gooey and filled with WONDERFUL meat. I usually get one beef and one chicken. My husband loves the HUGE margaritas that are ridiculously strong and we both love the queso, even though it is just queso. Whenever we eat at any other Mexican place we are always forced to wonder why we went anywhere but El Parian. It is very decently priced and there is always a coupon on the back of the Eagan Cub Foods receipt.

  • Tim M.

El Parian is definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant south of the river, and is a contender for my favorite Mexican restaurant in the entire Twin Cities as well. Located in a strip mall anchored by a Target and a Cub Foods, the storefront location has a decent amount of seating, with both booths and tables available. The service is always prompt and very friendly; I've never had to wait long for my food on any of my visits. And even if I did, the free chips, salsa, and queso sauce would keep me satisfied for a long time. Their salsa is possibly the best I've ever had, with the caveat that I prefer milder salsa, but if you need kick they have a few different bottles of hot sauce at each table. My favorite dishes thus far are the carnitas dinner and the tamales (as with most of their offerings, you can get them as part of a combination meal or ala carte), but I haven't had anything there I've disliked. The portions are always generous and the price can't be beat -- depending on what someone got for a beverage, it would be easy to eat there for $10-15 for dinner (less if you stick with water to drink), and two people could probably get lunch for that. Finally, I have to praise their margaritas, which are not just generous (you can get a 28oz margarita for what you'd pay for a 16oz in downtown Minneapolis), but potent as well -- they don't skimp here!

  • Ben G.

Just ate at their newly opened location in Long Lake. Great service - I think the waiter and water boy asked us like fifteen times if we needed anything else. While the food was standard fare Mexican the little things need some help. 1) pre-packaged margarita mix - haven't we as a society evolved to expect some fresh lime juice instead of some chi-chi's brand neon green sugar water? 2) salsa is weak, I assume to accommodate Minnesotan's love of the bland..but c'mon can they have some serious heat if one requests it? Related, because the salsa was so lame, I ordered some jalepenos for additional heat - I was disappointed to be served a bowl of dull green ones that had just come out of can. How hard is it to cut up some fresh hot peppers? Hopefully this business can break the curse that has besmirched past establishments in this same location, but they gotta up their game.

I had lunch at El Parian this month, and enjoyed the combination of tasty food, good prices, and gracious service. They have a large menu, including a host of lunch options - I enjoyed my enchilada/burrito combo with beans, and my wife's meal looked even better, as it had more green stuff on top (lettuce, etc.). I'm sure we'll be going back. A few things to note: - The restaurant is not huge, but there's ample seating. - The wait staff was friendly, VERY friendly. I had a nice chat with our server about "Pecsi," which is a dialectic equivalent for Pepsi (see popsop.com/31992 ) - The chips and salsa (complimentary) come with two sauces, one red and one white. They're both pretty good and deserve special mention.

  • Bill H.

Wow, great food at great prices, my girlfriend and I went for lunch and left with full bellies and a 15$ bill. The complimentary tortilla chips served with 2 different dips were also pretty awesome. I got a burrito combo meal and my girlfriend got a taco salad, the meal came with rice, and we ended up getting a box for the leftovers. The amount of seating is a little slim but the food is great and the prices are excellent. Highly Recommended!!!

  • Dawn S.

Very good food. Quick. Excellent customer service. Half the customers were Latino, which is a good sign in a Mexican restaurant. The salsa doesn't have much kick, but the rest of the food was really good. Two people, two dinners, $18.

  • James E.

Love it. Have yet to sit down for a meal so I know nothing about the service, but I get to-go food there once or twice a month and it is fantastic. Great prices, usually it's easy to find coupons online and you can get a great mexican meal and a good deal. Free chips and salsa with to-go orders, can't be mad at that...

Decent for a suburban Mexican place. The horchata was too sweet and thick, and the food was a little salty. Otherwise, a good menu with lots of choices, pretty reasonable prices.

Good food, bad service. Arrived for lunch at 1:15 Wait staff was nice and attentive We were the only people who arrived at that time. The place did get super busy by 2pm. Realized a little before 2pm when a table that arrived after us got their food that our order wasn't coming up. Weak apology from waitstaff no offer to comp or anything. It was like they were too embarrassed to really apologize so they just acted like nothing happened...my kids were hungry and exhausted...server should have realized when he offers us more chips that the food was late. Anyhow, know people like it and assume this was a fluke, just wish I could have really felt the apology...won't likely return...

This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Eagan. The food is authentic and delicious! I enjoyed my order of burritos and enchiladas. The staff are friendly and helpful! The restaurant can be crowded, especially during lunch time. The prices are very reasonable!

Service was good but the food sort of meh. We did lunch service which was fast and cheap. The taco salad was soupy and the fajitas less interesting.

Love this place! It's small but the food is what you come for. The most authentic Mexican food this side of town. Their carne asada tacos are my favorite... So simple, fresh and yummy! Pair that with a Coronarita (margarita with upside down corona in it) and you're set. Free chips & salsa while you wait is an added bonus. Coming here after a bad day at the office makes me forget what I was upset about.

Great tasting food! The Chile relleno was my favorite. The enchilada and tacos were good too. Tamale was okay, but not the best I've had as it was a little bit dry. Service was fast and food hot. Prices were at a perfect price point. Horchata had a good flavor and it wasn't too sweet. They were able to turn the channel to the football game we wanted to watch, so we were happy campers all around! Can't wait to go back to try other items on the humongous menu! :)

Joined Yelp just so I could review El Parian, that's how much I like it. Like others have mentioned, it's kind of got that small, hole in the wall feeling, but not so much that it feels grimy or anything like that. Clean, bright and has some of the most interesting, if not unintentionally hilarious, decor on the walls. And the food. Oh, the food. This little place honestly has some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. To me, it's comparable to El Loro around here in the Cities, but even better. The bonus, is that the food is very inexpensive, considering how good it tastes! Great value... And though I haven't had one, they have some enormous margaritas if one were so inclined :) Everyone I know who have been to El Parian has given it rave reviews, so if you're in the South Metro and in the mood for Mexican food, check it out.

Nestled in between Anna Chung Chinese Restaurant and Dominick's Pizza and Family Restaurant lies the nondescript El Parian Mexican Restaurant, a hidden jewel in Eagan, MN. Driven by a desire for chips and salsa, I ventured out from my hotel to partake. I arrived at 5pm, the beginning of traditional dinner service. I was pleased to find four other parties in various stages of their dining experiences. I secured a booth with a view of the television since I was dining alone. True to form, soccer was the program of choice. My server arrived seconds later to take my drink order. After a quick trip to the back, he returned with my drink, chips, salsa and ranchero dip. I ordered queso dip as well. ASIDE- Why do Mexican Restaurants in these parts insist on putting Hidden Valley Ranch in bowl and passing it off as a dip? I'll never know... I ordered the beef fajitas minus the tomatoes, cooked with the onions and peppers. After my last experience at a Minneapolis area eatery, I decided to steer clear. My queso dip arrived shortly after I ordered, hot and fresh. It was creamy without being too thin and had a great flavor. The salsa was a perfect consistency as well. Very flavorful with a medium heat level. Made in-house, El Parian salsa could be bottled and sold as a nice side business-it is that good. I probably could have (and should have) stopped with the chips, salsa and queso. But alas, the fajitas were already ordered, so what could I do? The main course arrived steaming and sizzling accompanied by flour tortillas and a plate of rice, beans, sour cream and guacamole salad. The first thing readily apparent was the seasoning on the fajitas. Not from smell or taste, but from sight. The strip steak, onions and peppers were coated with a light tomato-cilantro sauce the practically ensured that that this entree would not disappoint. Turns out I was right. The flavor of the sauce permiated the tender meat, sautéed onions and crisp peppers, inviting me to continue to come back for more, which I did. Several steaming tortillas later, I consumed my fill, with food still left on the plate and a wide smile on my face. The service was adequate, but that's not why I came anyway... If you're in Eagan and craving Mexican food, do yourself a favor and stop by El Parian. Chances are, you'll go out of your way to visit again and again.

I came here a few days ago so my memory of the place is not as fresh, but the food here sure is. The food is great especially for the prices. It was a little difficult for some of my friends to find, but that was mainly because they used Apple Maps. The restaurant is a bit small but I suppose that's what gives it that 'hole in the wall' feel. What I really enjoy was the Latin American pop music they have playing. When I eat, the music adds to the atmosphere and overall experience. The server was also kind enough to give my friends and I more chips and salsa without extra charge. They get five stars for great food, service, and overall experience.

Really good Mexican food! Totally hit the spot & my kids loved it too. We've only been once & it was packed. It's a super small spot in a strip mall off of Cliff Road. Hopefully they keep packing the house & can expand or move close by to a bigger place. Anyway, don't let the size of the restaurant or the wait keep you from trying El Parian! We will be back to eat here again soon. :)

This is THE place to go for Mexican food in MN. Not that that is saying much, but still this place is the Biz. Food is fast, delicious, service is impeccable, drinks are strong, its got it all. It's more tex mex style than "authentic" mexican food. My parents live about 3 blocks from El Loro and I dragged them there immediately when it opened. They loved it. Over the years I had like 5 birthday dinners in a row there as well as many other meals. Then the quality of the food started to decline a bit, and the service level went way down. What precipitated this decline? Well I can't say for sure but I am 99% confident it was the departure of Aldo, who is now the owner/operator at El Parian. Here are the things you need to get when you go to this restaurant Cheese dip- What can be said about white cheese dip that hasn't already been said about heave? Its warm, inviting, but better than seeing your dead relatives. if I need to convince you of this you have bigger problems than where to go to eat. Texas Margaritas- preferably by the pitcher. If you are a real hefe you can try and tackle the 64 ounce margarita by yourself. Fajitas- mixed. This is enough food for 3 mere mortals, 2 serious eaters (also factoring in the amount of chips you ate with the queso) If you are ordering other things you are probably doing it wrong (though several of their burrito combo plates are also tasty).

Each time I see a restaurant with a personality to it, in the twin cities burbs, I shed a little tear of joy. With pretty interesting paintings on the wall, low cost dishes and a very intriguing staff, this place may just be one of the best things that happened to the city of Eagan. The quality of food is good and the portions are large ( you dont have to finish it all you know that right? they have to go boxes) Furthermore It is pretty close to Regal Eagan theaters, so you know what, instead of spending all that money on the popcorn\soda try eating at this place before or after the show that you are going to see. With all these nice things said about the place let me balance this review out by asking you to refrain from eating the Flan. It does not taste great and the texture is a little off as well. Plenty of parking and sometimes its a little crowded so you may have to wait just a bit.

It's true, this place is as good as the ratings. They had a shrimp and lobster enchilada special with the most amazing white sauce and rice that was delicious. Reasonable prices, made fresh and fast.

Amazing! This is a small place with great tasting food, wonderful and fast staff! Seemed like people were waiting for a table but never more than 10 minutes! I would come back here next time we are in town! Thanks for the amazing service!!

I love El Parian! They have awesome margaritas, chips and salsa, AND really tasty queso cheese dip for the chips! I've always kept it simple here, with enchiladas, tacos, and rice, but I've always left with a "food baby".

  • Kandy K.

Decent for a suburban Mexican place. The horchata was too sweet and thick, and the food was a little salty. Otherwise, a good menu with lots of choices, pretty reasonable prices.

  • Bo T.

  • William C.

Go. To. This. Place.

Very good food. Quick. Excellent customer service. Half the customers were Latino, which is a good sign in a Mexican restaurant. The salsa doesn't have much kick, but the rest of the food was really good. Two people, two dinners, $18.

This is a great lunch spot. Small but with wonderful Mexican food. Truly distinctive flavors. Well worth the stop.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
