I'm a vegetarian and, yes, I know this a sushi place first and a grill second. However, I have had good success at similar Japanese restaurants. Not here. Most of the menu seems vegetarian hostile. Even the miso soup uses a fish rather than a kombu or shiitake one in its dashi (base / stock). My waitress said that most miso soup is made from a fish stock - not in my experience. Dinner salads were composed of iceberg lettuce (not unusual) with no shredded carrots (unusual) and a forgettable ginger dressing. Vegetable tempura had a strangely tasteless breading and weak dipping sauce. The stir fried veggies were hot and fairly tasty. Edamame in pods were as expected. If you're an omnivore who likes Asian food where meat is used as a condiment rather than the main act, you'll have a tough time here. Most of the meat dishes either totally lack veggies or supply only raw cabbage. Of course, my perspective on this is skewed. I didn't have sushi and I don't eat meat. If that's why you're visiting, read the other reviews. If you are a vegetarian looking for a Japanese restaurant to visit (perhaps in the company of sushi-eating friends), though, take note.

First impression of this place was nothing special. Your typical strip mall spot on the outside, cozy on the inside. I was excited to see the place had a good # of patrons. The 'man behind the counter' greeted us to sit anywhere. A lot of place i'm hesitting of the 'sushi bar' due to the fact most don't see enough turn over for fresh product. With me I had a co-worker who loves sushi as much as I. The menu is pretty simple, I didn't sample anything off of it other than some steamed shirmp/veggie dumplings. They were almost just like shumi I see at Dim Sum, and passable but would never order again. We sampled some rolls. Two were from the special of the day. 'FireCracker Roll' (Shrimp tempura, crab stick, spicy crab salad on top, and backed.) I've never had a 'baked roll' and it was yummy! $12.95 for 10 rolls. Second special was 'Grill SPicy Tuna'. (Spicy Tuna, avocado, cucumber, with spicy mayo on top, and lots of tempura crunch on top.) Not sure what the 'grill' part was. Price was $8.95 for 10 rolls. The sushi menu was pretty expansive. We both had salmon nigire as well, which was very fresh. I was very impressed with the quality. It was all rolled to order, on demand. They have special lunch boxes and boats which were reasonable priced. I'll still go to Nobel Fish for carry out sushi, and Kyoto for sit down experience. If i'm ever craving lunch time sushi at work this is the place I'm going. They live up to exactly what it is, a strip mall sushi joint. You can fax your order in a head of time, and they will have it ready if you have a larger group that wants to dine in, as it can take some time for one man to roll a lot of rolls. They also deliver, and there's free wifi to boot. Four Stars!

The best chirashi in the area. It is my default whenever I go here, the chef's selection of items is a cut above the others, well presented. Richard is a fan of my Sensei and my karate friends and I often visit after class. Great selection of items, good service and competitive prices. It is a long way from my home, but worth the drive!

Well I come here quite often and after my last visit which was a terrific meal I wanted to try maybe somewhere else and I'm glad I did it makes me really appreciate the food here because by far the best sushi around everytime I come here I try to get something different and it's very easy because there is a large variety on the menu I give this place two thumbs up

I used to love this place. It appears as though the old owners have sold the place and new management has taken over. They used to know me and my family by name, knew what we liked, and always made a point to greet everyone that came in the door. Sadly, that service is no more. The sushi is not as fresh as it once was, the hot bowls are messes of sauce with no real flavor profile, and even the green tea tastes like its been brewed 6 times over. Granted, sushi in Korea is a far cry from sushi you can get in Japan. This is the first review I have ever posted and I hate that I have to post it. If you knew the old owners and LOVED this place for what it used to be that charm and level of service is gone with the new owners. Tokyo Sushi is no more.

Decent sushi that priced a little high. Service was good, considering I was the only person there for half of my lunch. Also, I was charged .75¢ for a side of teriyaki sauce and for a salad I didn't order or eat.

My husband loves this place. I on the other hand think it's "ok"..... Maybe "good" The people were friendly and nice. The sushi was ok to me. I'm not a huge sushi fan but I've had it a number of times. Granted my sushi eating is vegetarian style.. No fish. The ginger dressing on the salad taste like I thought it would/should. The kids eat cucumber rolls and my husband ordered the boat. I took a small bite of a fried green bean and was unimpressed. Not a huge fan of fried foods but have an appreciation for good light crunchy stuff, this wasn't it. I thought it tasted oily. I was sad to see canned lemonade / minute maid when the kids wanted something to drink. We don't drink soda but this was just as bad. I know this sounds pretty bad but I think if you really enjoy sushi you would have a different view, maybe. I'm not overly impressed with any sushi so far in michigan But if we talk about Yo sushi in London England ....... Yum

My first review will have to go to tokyo seoul! i believe i went last week and i went with my wife. we where just in the area doing some house hunting and we stopped in for a bite. i have to say the looks of the place wasn't bad. so i wasn't really expecting anything out of the food. I was never a huge sushi fan but tokyo seoul totally changed me. I tried the seacret roll which was amazing and then a couple of the raw fish sushi. my wife, who enjoys asian cuisine had the kalbi. my wife and i enjoyed out food immensely.... the kalbi was really good...so good..i enjoyed that even though it was my wife's. i recommend tokyo sushi even though it's in a quaint strip mall....its a hidden gem. i will definitely look forward to visiting again very soon!

I am sad to see that the old owners are no longer here. This is called Tokyo Seoul now with Korean food on the menu. My favorite dish = deluxe sashimi set. I use to get around 28 pieces of sashimi for $27.99. Now it is just 18 pieces for $29. The way the fish is cut is amateurish. It rips apart in your mouth versus a smooth bite. If you try to bite off part of the sashimi, it will rip unevenly. The previous owner knows how to cut the fish so you can bite your sashimi pieces smoothly. This is a huge deal breaker for me. Price is way up. This was a value place. Not anymore bad sashimi. Uneven bite. fusion rolls are burdened by too much sauces. Feels like you are just eating highly flavored sauces. Cant even taste the ingredients. To me, it is the mark of a weak chef. The previous owner's rolls never had any sauces at all maybe except spicy tuna. octopus that was served in the sashimi set was still half frozen!! I was biting into ice crystals. Unacceptable Unfortunately I will not return. RIP Tokyo Sushi.

Place used to be good but today we had bad service. Seemed they only had one guy preparing all meals. Nonetheless we were served simple roll and teriaky chicken after everyone else that came in after us. We still got charged full price. Asked for roll with no roe and got roe. Seemed like the chef and waitress were not getting along. Very disappointing when you wait 40 minutes for lunch. Not going back. Will go to soho instead, a block away.

So far I've tried most of the locations of Tokyo Sushi, and this is not my favorite one. Honestly, I think it's probably the most authentic one, but consequently their varieties of sushi rolls are a little too "out there" for my taste compared to the Royal Oak or Auburn Hills locations.

This is my go-to carry-out sushi place! I cannot say enough good things about it. I have been going here for years and have always had excellent service. I love the more basic rolls on their menu (tuna, spicy California), their vegetable tempura appetizer, and their Miso soup. Everything is fresh, quick, and very reasonably priced. The sushi chef and staff are always so friendly, polite, and professional. If you're in the area, I highly recommend checking this place out!

Whenever I come home back to Troy, I absolutely have to make a visit to Tokyo. The atmosphere inside is wonderfully peaceful, the soothing music, calm lighting and a soft glow of the bubbling aquarium always put me in a comfortable, restful state. The sushi chef, Frank, is always super friendly and willing to have conversation while he prepares your meal, but he's also respectful of those who wish to eat in their own peace. When I had my first ever roll at Tokyo some years ago, it was without a doubt love at first bite. The cheapest rolls are just as tasty as the more intricate. Either way, they all sit at a more than reasonable price for the taste, and if your going to get a specialty roll I highly recommend the Ninja.

Good prices and fresh sushi. The rolls weren't made very well but that doesn't matter much to me. They also closed the kitchen 30 min early but they still could do sushi and salads which is what came for anyhow.

I have tried many a sushi bar and this is an awesome little gem. Don't be fooled from the outer appearance. it looks like a dive from the outside, the inside is not that great either, but the sushi is AWESOME!!! I am not sure what the previous reviews are about but my experience has been great. I have been here three times and every time I get fresh sushi, good portions and tasty rolls. I would give it a try it might surprise you in a good way.

I agree with the previous reviewer. I used to go here all the time when I lived in Troy. Chris and his nephew Jeff were amazing, and we were on a first name basis. Since the change-up a few years back, it hasn't quite been the same. It's still decent, but it's not as authentic as it used to be. Long story short, I find that the fish is reasonably delicious (fresh/flavorful), the rice is indeed sticky, and staff is super friendly. Go there if you'd like some decently priced sushi and japanese food.

Very cozy atmosphere. The interior needs a little update. The fish tank have some scary fishes. The dinner boat is amazingly good! The shrimp/Vegetable tempura is crispy and well cooked. The sushi is fresh and delicious. Tonkatsu is friend pork with egg and served with rice. It is very good. I usually add a little soy sauce to give it a little more flavor. Friendly service and good price.

Wow, this place needs a lot more quality control. I've been here a few times simply because of the convenience of location, but I avoid it when I can. I'm a "boat" kind of person, and every time I order the boat I get something completely different--and that's not a good thing. Sometimes I feel cheated, other times I don't, but I sure would love some consistency. The food is okay but there are a few blemishes in the preparation as some of the other reviewers have pointed out. If you need sushi, this place is better than getting the supermarket stuff, but there are better restaurants out there.

This is my favorite sushi bar in Michigan, I've been coming here for years and I've never noticed a shift in service or food. Since I've moved to chicago, I just can't seem to find any place relatively similar to it in terms of quality and quantity. The staff is always friendly, the food is delicious and prompt, and they always throw an extra piece of ebi or some goodie in there for me! I go back here every time I'm home. I prefer this to most of the other Tokyo Sushi locations. The parking is easier, it's quiet and they have the most extensive menu complete with the "you name it" section which I always use to get a delicious shrimp & mayo roll. Plus they hands down have the greatest ginger dressing in existence.

Located in a strip mall and recommended by a friend, I was hoping for a good find. Instead, the sushi fell short with some pieces still thawing and others mushy. The hamachi kama was flavorless and not memorable. It is a clean, friendly, suburban style sushi restaurant. Not for the sushi aficionado.
