Salty! I ordered something with red curry and tofu and although I found the meal to be decent, it was overly salty and there was more rice than curry in my take out box. I could taste the fish sauce mixed into my meal and I wasn't sure about that because usually the curries I order don't go that way. Perhaps I just ordered randomly because the lady was in a hurry to take my order although she didn't fill it until I reminded her I was still there on a busy Friday. To her credit she did give me free soup, which I guess was their version of hot and sour, with a few bamboo shoots, a few tiny tiny pieces of what I thought was chicken, and a sort of thickened clear (corn starchy?) soup base that was a little bit sour like watered down vinegary...soup? If you dine in I'm assuming the service is better because most of the people who left were happy and chit chatting with the owners (a few college boys trying to mack on her teenage daughter even). I think you get all you can eat shrimp chips in rainbow colors in a basket. I live a few steps away literally. Still I think I prefer the Thai down the road. Its not too far considering the service and taste difference for me.

I was excited to try this place on my way to Somerset..... and considering the reviews..... my sis and I were super excited. but the food and service are not all that. waaaay over rated. Pad Thai alright......pad se ew.....dis gus ting!! the mean old lady wouldn't even take it off the bill. she said she is not the cook and gave us a "heh". well, I guess you get what you pay for. and the reason why this place deserved 3 stars...... the hot and sour soup....delicious. anyways, save your money and move on. oooh btw the soup comes free. yeah.... that's about it. other than that first and last time.

This is the best thai food I have found in the Troy/Rochester Hills/Auburn Hills area. I haven't tried them all, but probably at least 10 restaurants so far. The dining room is clean and has a colorful aquarium. Dining in is a nice experience, food is quick and the meal comes with their delicious hot & sour soup, and the shrimp chips. Portions are plentiful, although I never have so much that I take a doggy bag. Carryout is equally delicious, though soup is not included. They recently changed to different carryout containers that are tins with clear plastic lids. If you order 3 or more dishes, make sure they don't stack them all together because these containers aren't sturdy enough to hold a lot of weight!

Delicious American Thai food in a pleasant atmosphere in a strip mall in Troy. We went on a Wednesday evening and we were the only diners. The food was delicious and came with hot sour soup and shrimp chips.

I frequent this restaurant once a week for the last 4 years due to working close to it. This is my favorite Thai in town and trust me I've had them all. The Pad Thai Chicken and Royal Chicken are the absolute best. Medium is a perfect hot with great flavor for both. Honestly, the Royal Chicken is so good it may be my favorite dish EVER!!! It is a family secret recipe of sweet Thai BBQ sauce and the chicken is a perfect crispness. Try it now and you won't be disappointed. Not the normal Thai your used to. The soup is also money! You only get it when you dine in.

We live close by, so it's a once a week take out place. Pad thai and Pad See Ew are AWESOME. Tom Yum soup is perfection when you're sick. THe apple salad is always a great slightly sweet treat. The only possible mark of imperfection is that their spice is somewhat inconsistent. I always ask for no spice so I have no problem, but my boyfriend usually gets medium or mild and we never really know how hot it's going to be. This seems to be a common problem with Thai places though, so I don't think they deserve to lose stars over it.

Is it sad that I've been to at least 15 different Thai restaurants in Detroit, Chicago, and Phoenix and the best Gang Gai I've ever had is at this joint in Troy, MI? I get Thai food every single time I go home. Most of the time, I get it from Orchid Cafe (I'd get it each and every time if my mom lived a bit closer:() At most Thai restaurants, I get the choice of one thai curry, here I get many (at least 4??). My favorite by far is the Gang Gai, probably b/c it includes my favorite vegetables (green/red peppers, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots). The thai curry noodles are also amazing. Love the shrimp chips that are free when you dine-in. Other location is also very, very yummy. Would either location consider a move to Phoenix? :(

I have only ordered take out from the Orchid Cafe. Dustin and I are slowly working our way through the menu. While picking up our food I have noticed that it might be nicer to eat in at the Orchid Cafe due to the warm inviting dinning room, as well as the chance to see the dishes presented on the plate as opposed to getting them in a box. The food is good, in a general way. The chicken satay is exactly what expected, the peanut sauce was good, and I always love cucumber salad. The carrot salad is the Thai version of that carrot salad your mom made for the church pot-luck. This version is not creamy and does not have raisins. It is simply shredded carrots seasoned with a light Thai lime vinaigrette with peanuts and garlic mixed in. Who knew carrots could be so tasty! The Gang-Karri (yellow curry) was good, in a very mediocre way. INot my favorite yellow curry ever. The orange chicken is safe, I did like that they use smaller pieces that that there wasn't more breading than chicken. Their orange sauce is a bit better than other places. Being adventurous the other night we ordered the Pla Lad Prik with Red Snapper. it was breaded fish (probably meant to be crispy, but the drive home in suace did not help) in a sauce with basil, carrot, pepper, oinion etc. This dish simply sounded better than it tasated. There have been a few dishes that I've ordered as take out, that would probably taste way better at the restaurant. One of these days I will drag Dustin out of the house, but in the mean time, a solid choice near home for when I'm too lazy to go grocery shopping and cook. P.S. I'm still looking for a Thai restaurant that has mango and sticky rice on the menu.

Here I am basking in the afterglow of a delicious serving of Drunken Noodles! The Orchid Cafes are the only Thai places in my area that offer such a delicacy! It is a tour de force of Thai flavor consisting of a wonderful brown sauce bathing freshly sauteed tomato, bell pepper, pea pods, bamboo shoots, celery and baby corn over a bed of wide rice noodles... AMAZING!!! I highly recommend The Orchid Cafe and, in particular, the Drunken Noodles!!!

I wish I read the reviews about noodle dishes before going...it was mushy and salty. I eat Thai often and usually I get the same thing. This time, it just wasn't that good. I ate my leftovers, but that means little. I would not go back. There are too many other choices in Troy.

There's a lot of Thai places around town, this one has never dissapointed me. I've come weekly for probably a good year plus since I work just down the street. As a Troy resident my whole life, I've tried the array of Metro Detroit Thai places. The included soup is Hot & Sour (Chicken, bamboo shoots mushroom & water chestnuts). I really enjoy the 'match stick' cut bamboo shoots in it. I usually mix in some of the hot oil from the table as I like more spice. Their pad Thai is quiet good in my opinion, but in general that's not my fav dish at Thai places. They have great tofu, and super tender tasty pork. I've sampled the drunken noodle, and duck as well. My # one dish I love, and have converted people on is the Pepper Garlic. It's # C14 on the menu. The dish is sauteed with mellow garlic sauce, green onions, mushrooms, onions, carrots, and bamboo strips. The sauce has a ton of flavor, and I can barely describe it. My co-workers have ordered a whole slew of other dishes. I can't imagine rating them all, let alone providing a good 'critical' explanation. What I will say is that the place is clean, the food is absolutely consistent, and always flavorful. I actually enjoy knowing if I want the dish I love, it will come out just like I remember it. If I want to try something new, I know it will be executed well. Thai curry noodles - N4 on menu is just epic. That sweet milky heat of their lovely red thai curry, with straw mushrooms and thick river noodles. Cheers,

My family was really craving some Thai food so I searched where the best Thai food was within our vicinity. I came across orchid cafe and I was really surprised at all the wonderful reviews. We ordered the calamari appetizer and the chicken pad thai. The pad thai in my opinion is always a safe bet. Man, was i wrong. First I called to order and was rudely talked to on the phone. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm talking to someone who is hostile and could care less about my business. It was a really weird phone call and I really do look at how people talk and treat their customers. Then I picked up the food and we opened the calamari up and it was inedible. Granted we probably shouldn't have ordered it but it was putrid. Then we tried the pad Thai and it wasn't good. It was like a salt bomb. How does a Thai place mess up pad Thai???? Perhaps we just went there on a bad night but we will not be going back.

My favorite style of food - FINE THAI cuisine , as busy as this place was , the service was FAST a.f. !!!!!!! The entrees came out to exact order of spice level ( GREAT ) !!!! The menu was very interesting and had a lot for Veggie people , my favorite part was this unique soup ( free ) with these Oriental Chips ( like Styrofoam ) - very tasty !!! But one thing -- out of all the places I've eaten , this place ( Lady/Owner ) was kinda rushing us out of there while the lunch hour rush was dieing down anyways and wasn't all that friendly - I didn't understand it !!! People Skills classes are in ORDER , but i 'll still comeback for the food and take my time there - I don't care !!!

It is a-ok, as long as you don't order any of the noodle dishes. They are overcooked and mushy as well as a little too salty. Everything else I have tried has been pretty good. The curry dish is great, so is the prik, and the gang gai, the duck is great as well.
I can't believe this place gets good reviews! My pad woon sen was soupy and bland. Never again! Jeez!

Had the Pad Thai and the Pad Se Ew tonight. Both dishes we good, the pad see ew noodles were over done though, and very mushy. Usually when we order the 2, the pad thai has a lighter sauce, but here it was the opposite, the pad thai had a darker sauce than the see ew, but the pad thai was good. Also, the broccoli in the see ew was overcooked. It was pricey, $11.50 each, and carryout does not get you soup or chips. I also asked for white rice, and was charged. I think steamed rice should be included. I will try elsewhere in Troy next time.

Of the two Orchid Cafe locations, this is my favorite. The staff is good and the food always delivers. I'm especially a fan of their daily lunch special, which is essentially two meals for the price of one. Plus, it's gotten me to try several items that I wouldn't normally consider.

I love the Pad See Ew here!! This is my favorite Thai dish and I've ordered it all over town at Thai restaurants in Rochester, Ferndale, Royal Oak, and Novi! But Orchid Cafe knows how to make it just right. I order it with mild plus spice and its just hot enough for me. When dinning in you get their shrimp chips and hot and sour soup included with dinner. I love their chips, they always seem fresh and never stale like at some restaurants. I get takeout here mostly, but have dinned in on several occasions. And when I do their wait staff is always friendly and on top of things.

Great Thai for the area-

Orchid Cafe has officially been declared my new favorite local restaurant for Thai Food. With your entrees, you get hot and sour soup plus shrimp chips! They put just the right amount of spice in their dishes and I just loved the flavor.

consistently good, never had anything that I didn't like. nice lunch specials. Good hot 'n sour soup included in the meal

By far the best Thai food around. Super friendly family owned restaurant. The curry puffs are to die for.

It is a-ok, as long as you don't order any of the noodle dishes. They are overcooked and mushy as well as a little too salty. Everything else I have tried has been pretty good. The curry dish is great, so is the prik, and the gang gai, the duck is great as well.

Orchard Café is a great lunch location for the Troy, MI business district. You always see professionals devouring their amazing dishes.. Their Pad Thai medium is my favorite. NOTE - bring a friend and split it. Not because the prices are outrageous ($7-10 per entree), but because the portion size is huge! Plenty to go around.. Service is quick and YES, the employees can 100% understand you. I'm not saying that to be negative, but no language barrier at all is great. Complaints? Really only one thing.. Parking. In a corner the parking can be limited. Be sure to beat the rush or be good at squeezing in a spot. Enjoy your experience and share on Yelp!

Best Thai food around. I've been coming here for years. This place seems to have changed owners many times, but the recipes for the dishes seem to stay the same. Best spring rolls and hot and sour soup in the area. I've tried many Thai restaurants and this is always the best.

Great Thai for the area-

Quiet, good service and a nice fish tank in the middle to view salt water fish. Named the clown fish Stu.
