Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

My fiance and I went to Santianello's for date night one night, truly wanting to fall in love with a local Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, that did not happen. We arrived at 5pm (to make our movie in time, which was playing at 7:30) and were immediately seated. Right next to a group of 12 over-served adults. We ordered immediately. I ordered a fish special, and my fiance ordered a simple pasta dish. Twenty minutes later, we finally got our salads and fresh foccacia bread. The salads were fine, but the bread was delicious and dripping with herb butter. Our drinks then sat empty for quite some time, before our waitress finally came over and took away our salad dishes and grabbed us refills. Half an hour passed before she returned to check on us again. At this point, I began to worry we were going to miss our movie, so I asked her to bring the check when the food came. She came back a few minutes later to tell me our food was still cooking, and offered to bring a side of pasta for me and box everything else up when it came. She politely offered to not charge us for the side of pasta. We declined, since we had already waited well over an hour for food. When our food finally came (an hour and a half after ordering), my fiance's pasta dish was only ok, and my fish was overdone (must've been why it took an hour and a half to cook). As a person who works in a restaurant, I understand that sometimes things go wrong. Our waitress avoided our table though at all costs, knowing we were getting increasingly frustrated. No one from management came over to talk to us. Our server never even checked on our meals. I really wanted to love Santianellos.

I have never written a Yelp review before. I was in St. Jo for Thanksgiving visiting friends and we went here for dinner. It was fantastic! I am now home in Ohio eating my leftovers from Santaniello and loving it once again so I decided to get on line to write a review. I ordered a small calzone and it is just gigantic. It could easily feed two people. I had them add their habanero sauce and peppers. All I can say is "Yum!" The sauce is quite spicy, but I like it that way (you could get regular marinara sauce I believe too). The calzone is just mozzarella cheese, no ricotta (also the way I like). The dough has a great wheat flavor. I would eat this every day if I could! We also got their focaccia bread as an appetizer, equally yummy, with some great spice sprinkled on top. Again the portion was quite large, enough for 4 people. The house salad was food, but nothing to write about. Pretty generic but the blue cheese dressing was great. We ate at the bar because the place was packed on the Friday night after Thanksgiving. Service was a little slow. If the food hadn't been so good I would have been annoyed. But the taste well made up for the time it took to receive our food.

I'm not sure if the service is bad or they just like to take their time. This includes waiting for the main course, drink refills and desert. Thankfully I visited this restaurant after a long day I didn't mind having a leisurely dinner. The food was ok, but nothing spectacular. A little overpriced in my opinion. I probably will return but I won't be upset if I don't.

Best Pizza in Southwestern Michigan! I usually get carry out.
(4)Warren W.
Excellent pasta dishes and good pizza. Be prepared for a wait though. Service was good.

If you eat here, hope you have a lot of time to spare. The kitchen is EXTREMELY slow. I waited 1.5 hours for chicken Parmesan and pasta with sauce. Ridulious! There were only two other tables besides our table.
(1)Pat V.
Excellent food and the service is equal to the food! Our waitress kept the drinks and water filled.

Had the Veal Parmigiana dinner with focaccia bread and minestrone soup (tricky words to spell!!). To me, the soup was more of a vegetable soup than traditional minestrone; good flavor and very hot temp. Focaccia is quite good. Veal Parm was just average; tender meat; sauce seemed overcooked and too much made the meat soggy. Good draft beer list. Not enough to bring me back. The lighting over the tables is odd; some aimed down at the table; others at the booth; relatively dim over our table.

Wow this place an entire disappointment. So many "locals" talk about how great this place is but I have never been so underwhelmed in my entire life. Walking in, I feel like I am waking into a cafeteria or subpar diner... No decor, cafeteria tables and chairs; nothing special. Our server seemed clueless; maybe it was her first day or her last??? Who knows. All of our entrees where awful!!! Nothing special, no flair, no flavor. YUCK!! Server could care less if we enjoyed it or not. Please DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!
(1)David S.
The salad was served before our app came out and immediately after we ordered our dinner. The focaccia bread was on point. I ordered a classic, chicken parmesan (pollo parmigiana) smothered with meat sauce, it held it's heat well but the chicken was extremely dry. Side pasta with tomato basil sauce was a bit runny and pasta over cooked. Service was good except for the order of dinner service. Would probably come back for a beer and focaccia bread at the bar, maybe try their sandwiches. Shrimp Florentine was way to buttery and not in a creamy butter sauce way. 2.5/5

The food is amazing as is the service! Many of the reviews talk about how bad the service is, Last week when I visited the restaurant the service was amazing! Although while I was there I did whiteness one of the servers getting screamed at by a customer, you have to remembero to treat the servers with the same amount of respect that you would like to be treated with as a customer.
(5)Jon K.
All I can say is stay away! If you want to be treated like a second class citizen (unless of course you are one of their regulars whom the waitstaff and manager will talk trash about you to), talked down to, overcharged, and have no problem waiting for your food for almost an hour, then this is the place to go! That's just the service! Wish I could say better things about their food, but that was even mediocre at best. Unfortunately, after being treated the way we were as a family of 8, I can't even fathom giving this place a second chance. And the advice I wish someone had given me, don't even give it a first chance.

Great food! Love the focaccia and salad! Amazing eggplant parmigian! Service is always very friendly and attentive! Love Santaniello's!
(5)Norm R.
My wife and I made our first visit to Santaniello Sunday, 11/9 to celebrate my birthday. The pasta and the Veal parm were both very very good. If you want a chain type service and setting, this place is not for you. They make your dish to order, meaning that it may take up to half an hour for your food to show. For us it was worth the wait! They served me a meat sauce with my pasta and Veal that was really good. Charged me $1 without asking me if I wanted a meat sauce. Strange business?, but it was a perfect sauce for me. Well worth a $1. My wife and both thought it was the best Italian food we'd had since our trip to Italy.
(5)A K.
Not sure about their other food but if you want flavorless pizza this is a place for you. For the price, this pizza is a ripoff. Take your money to silver beach pizza, round barn or Pizza Hut for that matter. Very very disappointed.
(2)Drew O.
This was awful! Ordered a Hawaiian pizza and they put ham sandwich slices all over the top of the pizza! Sorry excuse for pizza!
(1)Justin H.
OK, I do want to like this place, but just cant. I live next to Tosi's and know all of them there so that doesn't help. Went with friends, I got pizza, eh', not great and a little overdone actually. Other pasta dishes were just uninspired. Pasta and a pile of sauce on top? Boring and not that great quite frankly. Tired building and paper napkins to boot. Just don't see me going back. There are a lot of other places that we love, including Tosi's. We have new spots that we like too in New Buffalo and there is always Timothy's in Union Pier, etc... I know Santaniello's has its following and that is great, I wish nothing but good for them. I just wont be back anytime soon.

Disappointing! Heard a great deal of talk about this restaurant; had to check out myself and highly disappointed. On first sight, saw diner chairs and terrible decor; definitely not describing the fine dining as I read online. Service was ok.. Food was sub-par, I had a salmon Caesar salad and the salmon was most definitely frozen, old, and fishy, basically not edible. Not impressed. Will not be back!

My family and I went to enjoy a delicious dinner. We were seated immediately. We went on a Tuesday, which is a but one get one free night for pasta, we were unaware of this special. The majority of us ordered pasta, including my 9 year old son. We got our drinks in a reasonable time. We asked for some foccacia bread, which we were served maybe 20 minutes later because supposedly they ran out of it. A half hour later we were served salad with a forgotten soup. The reason the soup was late was because the chef needed to make more minestrone soup. She said it was extremely hot, which turned into a lie. It was a cold bowl of soup. We watched the premiere of Food Fighters, which is a hour program without our waitress , Casey, returning to see if we needed anything or with our food. We finally asked a bus girl if we could see our waitress. She said the cook said another 5 or 6 minutes. We waited another 15 minutes before our food was served. Two spaghettis with meat sauce were served and that was it. Our waitress Casey went to another waitress to talk about us. Our food was not the best. We asked for our receipt. We were charged for all pasta dishes, not the special like told as a special. Casey was a very rude waitress. My family and I will not return nor should you.

This place was highly recommended to me by my family, who are Saint Joseph natives. I have to say that I enjoyed the atmosphere; the live music always a huge plus! Unfortunately, I got very sick after eating a spinach and goat cheese pizza. I'm sure this is a rare occurrence given their highly regarded reputation.

My family and I were incredibly impressed by this place. We got a thin crust pizza and a couple of other appetizers, and drinks. Everything was delicious and i th bloody mary were the tallest i've ever seen with a bunch of garnishes. We enjoyed the unobtrusive and timely service. Great place. I'd go back there again for sure.

First time we visited was on New Years Eve. We made reservations and it was quite busy. Our service was excellent and our food was great. We came back a few days later on a Thursday night. The restaurant looked about half full and they put us on a wait list. While standing there we saw several tables open. After 15 minutes of not being helped we decided to just sit at the bar. There were only 2 other bar guests at the bar. We waited 10 minutes before anyone greeted us or took a drink order. The service was awful and the attitude of the workers in general was terrible. Food was good but I am not sure we would visit again. Maybe just a one time thing with the bad service but it was a major turn off.
(2)Becky T.
Went back again and left disappointed. It started off with a waitress who wasn't particularly friendly. We always look forward to the focaccia bread and it was brought to us dry on top without butter as well as very dry on the inside. Our dinners were good but it took about an hour from when we placed the orders until they came to the table. We drive about 45 minutes each way to get there and given the time, cost and recent experience we won't be back soon.

My family and I have been going to Santaniello's restaurant for over 20 years. We think it is the best southern Italian food you can find anywhere. The Marinara and Tomato Basil sauces are to die for, especially on top of the homemade pasta! My favorite dish is the eggplant parmagiana. It is casual and very affordable. A hidden gem

My boyfriend & I have been to Santaniello's on two occasions. The first time, we opted to sit in the dining room. We sat for probably 15 to 20 minutes before we were waited on. The restaurant was empty except for us, one other table & a few bar patrons. The second time we came in, we decided to sit at the bar, order a few drinks & take our food to go. Once again, slow service. Our drinks would sit empty, but only for a minute or two, but our food was not ready until over an hour after we ordered it. Incredible. I wonder what the deal is. I've read other reviews with similar complaints.
(2)Jen S.
I have only ordered take-out pizza, where you pick it up from the restaurant. Very good vegetarian pizza has broccoli and cauliflower, deep dish. Next I'll be trying the pizza named after family members, which sounds very Italian. The restaurant itself looks clean and comfortable. When I was there on a Friday night it was packed with families enjoying an evening together. Recommended.
(4)Eric R.
Good place to eat. Had a few pizza's and some different pasta dish's and both have been good. I like the jalapeno pasta that they have. They are only open for dinner time.

We have tried to love this restaurant, given the proximity to our home to no avail. Despite the various approaches of 'with kids', 'without kids', large parties and small the experience has been downright disappointing. The tomato sauce is excessively salty and considering the importance of tomato sauce in an Italian meal this is a serious issue. I took my parents here and couldn't believe after an hour long wait for our food after ordering that the food came out just barely warm. In addition the service (as many of my fellow reviewers attest to) is pretty unimpressive. The feeling I walk away with is questioning whether they care. This is from the front of the house to table side service. It would be hard to think of a reason to try this eatery again.
(1)Jen K.
The food is good, but the service sucks!!! The waiters/waitresses are all kids and clearly don't know what they're doing. It took a while to get us seated, and I automatically had a feeling once we sat down that the service would be horrible. They awkwardly put two circular tables together for 5 people. We had to ask for plates a few times for our pizza. Pizza took about 40 min to get. Asked our waitress for the check and she said she would get it and then left for a while and took an order of a large group. We already waited for our food a hundred years, can we please get our check so we can leave? The pizza was good but sorry the service was terrible. The manager needs to have a talk with the servers or fire them. They're driving your customers away! I will not be returning.

I have visited Santaniellos's twice in the last 6 months. My review is based on my experience dining in at their restaurant, and both times I had an entree, not pizza. My disappointment stems from a combination of things rather than one particular issue. First, you should expect to spend at least an hour once you are seated... salads are slow to come out and plates take about 35mins to arrive at your table. The interior dining room is OK, not as cozy as Papa Vino's in my opinion. My dinner the first time was pesto pasta, which was pretty good but very salty. The second time, my dinner was pasta with veggies, and again was overly salty and not incredibly fresh. Price wise, I feel that Papa Vino's is cheaper and the food is better. However, they should try half-price house wine just like Santaniello's does on Wednesdays which is great! If I try Santaniello's again, I will probably get the deep dish pizza which is what they are famous for, otherwise I'd suggest another Italian place for dinner.

This restaurant is a perfect mix of authentic Italian and contemporary dishes. My personal favorites are the balsamic chicken and the Rossana thin crust pizza. They are both out of this world. The live music is also a nice mix.

Dined with a group of 7 women. Most were sharing pizzas, but since this was my third or fourth visit here in the 20 yrs. I've lived in the area, I wanted to try a dinner. Order the broiled orange roughy on the recommendation of one of my friends. Asked the waitress if my ordering a meal instead of pizza would cause a timing issue and she said we'd all be waiting at least 40 mins. for our food anyway, so 'no.' Hmmm. Enjoying our drinks while waiting, we had to order (and pay extra for) a basket of bread to soak up some of the wine and martinis. All food came at once. I mentioned to the waitress that I'd never received my salad, and her response was "You didn't remind me." All my friends seemed to enjoy their pizzas. First bite of the orange roughy was shocking because it was so salty, but I got over it. Accompanying veggies were the highlight -- crisp, colorful and delicious. Not a fav.

One of the best restaurants in the area. I try not to eat a lot of pasta so I always order their Chicken Dishes and I absolutely love them. The service is always top notch and we love the ambiance of the restaurant. The bar area is always a fun place to gather to socialize with the locals. They just opened an upstairs lounge area that looks like a great place to host little get togethers. The Balsamic Chicken is too die for!!

Good pizza. Restaurant itself is not so good. Had the special with fresh tomatoes, basil and provolone - it was very good and tasty. But the restaurant was really, really hot. Admittedly it was during the peak summer heat, but wiping beads of sweat from your forehead is not a good way to spend a meal. Also, a waitress dropped our pizza - so that prolonged our sauna experience. Because there was six of us, they loaded a pre-calculated tip of 20 percent to the bill. A group of six is too low of a threshold for a must tip situation. Then to have to pay for service that drops pizza, not good.

They set the mood for you!!! Awsome

Friendly server/bartender. I ordered my pizza to go and enjoyed a Stella Artois while I waited. I was told it would be about 40 minutes (it was the middle of the dinner rush), it was a little early. They offered me a discount card for free that actually saved me money right then and there and didn't cost anything. The pizza was very good, the crust has a unique flavor and is outstanding.
(4)Michael O.
Food is good, but service is a bit lacking (unless you are at the bar).

We frequent this restaurant and love it!! The Santaniellos are a great family and take pride in their staff, restaurant atmosphere and great food!! The focaccia is amazing!! Love it, love it, love it!!
(5)Tom F.
We love Santiniellos! Always a favorite place when the fam comes home. Our favorites are the lasagna, calzone and their focaccia bread.
(5)Zach K.
Never have I consumed pizza with a taste such as this. My father grew up in Stevensville so we visit this area quite often and every time we come to this restaurant. Every time I am amazed by the fact that never have I had better. The restaurant itself has a soothing feeling with nice relaxing music constantly playing. The lights are dim and the scent of the scrumptious pizza are everywhere. I recommend setting a vacation to St. Joseph for the sole reason of eating here.
(5)Joseph M.
Order to go if you think the service is not great. The food is Pretty good compared to others in area serving the same type.
(4)William N.
When friends who've moved away come back into town, this is where everyone wants to go when they want pizza. The rest of their menu is great and has been for many years. The owners have done a great job building this place over the years.
