I personally prefer Chipotle's rice bowls over Qdoba's, but I was looking for a quick bite in Royal Oak downtown so I gave Qdoba's a try. Food was decent, prices were obviously under $10, location was great (right in central downtown Royal Oak), guacamole is free, and lots of seats along the window for people watching. What was also a bonus is that it opens till 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights so that's perfect for those weekend party-goers.

i've grown to strongly dislike qdoba in the past few months. i used to love it, but now i have realized that it is just a bunch of cold toppings piled into a bowl, burrito, or in nacho form. the only thing that you will get hot here is the mexican gumbo or the quesadillas. anyhow, i visited this location on a very busy, after bar hours friday night. yep, that's right, get the image in your head of plenty of drunk patrons swarming in every second and struggling to order and pay for their food. i had came from mr. b's after a few drinks and i was pretty sober, so the environment was annoying but doable since i was hungry. i ordered the craft 2 with nachos and tacos, my boyfriend ordered a chicken burrito. first of all, my boyfriend asked the worker for extra salsa and she puts it on the burrito and proceeds to ask, "HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WRAP THIS?", because there was a lot of salsa. i don't fucking know, do they not teach burrito wrapping 101 when you're hired? seriously, it's not that damn hard to wrap the burrito. maybe if you had added more chicken and rice instead of giving one baby scoop of everything then everything wouldn't have to be drowned in salsa. strike one. i add my toppings to my entree, anddddd proceed to the cash wrap where the SAME girl goes "oh shit brad, i forgot we were out of chips" i guess she thought she was whispering, but i could hear her clearly. so she finally comes to tell me we are out of chips, i could give you the little amount we have left? or you could get it as a burrito or a bowl...hold the phone. so you made my nachos, toppings and everything, and THEN you remember you don't have any chips?! what is a nacho without chips? it's NOTchos! seriously, this pissed me off because i was considering going to Taco Bell in the first place. then the guy brad comes to ask me if i wanted him to crunch up some taco shells. what? no. and i was offered no kind of discount or anything for the inconvenience! so i tell them i would take a quesadilla instead and the girl tells me, "this would have been really good as a bowl". if i wanted a "bowl" i would have ordered it don't ya think? definitely never coming back here. could've made tacos a lot quicker and cheaper at home. i know the workers probably get annoyed with all the drunkies on weekends but hey, don't take that out on the rest of the customers, i'm sure you knew what it would be like before you started working there.

All I can say is TERRIBLE service the guy behind the counter had his headphones in and was rapping and walked away in the middle of taking our order and disappeared for a while and came back never looked up and smiled just over all bad customer service

For what it is, a "Mexican food" chain. It was pretty good. The staff was very friendly. I had a chicken quesadilla, it was actually surprisingly delicious. I will say, I got guacamole on the side, it was brown and didn't have much flavor, it could have been a little fresher.

I have ordered Qdoba numerous times as it is close to my work. I have never been satisfied. Something is always wrong or missing from my order and they are not very kind or worried about fixing anything for you.

Horrible customer service. They run out of protein options frequently and the chicken is old and dry.

I've long been a fan of Qdoba and generally anything wrapped in a burrito or covered in queso. Last night, I happily visited Qdoba after a night of drinking and was a bit disappointed. Now that I'm eating healthier, I'm trying not to eat heavily late at night. My usual plan of destroying a nearly 1-lb burrito was not in the cards. Unfortunately, there is little-to-nothing on the menu that is a reasonable portion. I settled for a quesadilla which is sort of a ripoff since it is the same price and about a third of the amount of food as a burrito. There is also soup/gumbo combos but who eats soup at 1 a.m? (Besides Andrew Bogut). Making matters worse, Qdoba made a half-assed attempt to make their menu healthy with whole wheat tortillas. It doesn't matter, corporate menu creator guy - we're only saving 10 calories. And if I cared that much I wouldn't be here. P.S. Qdoba gets a bonus start for having green tabasco. All salsas and hot sauces are better when green.

Fresh ingredients, fresh food prepared right in front of you! The only way to eat Mexican! Nice location right in the heart of downtown royal oak.

Fresh ingredients and friendly staff, clean establishment. This location is by far the best. I love the choose 2 option (naked burrito and gumbo). They keep the bathrooms locked to discourage non paying clients.

This is your standard 'Dobs...the food has always been pretty A-OK for me. The service is sometimes a bit slow, and I wish they'd be more consistent in what they charge me. Half the time they charge for queso on my veggie naked burrito, and half the time they don't. Sometimes they charge me extra for guac, sometimes they don't. I don't mind either way, I just wish it was consistent. The workers aren't always the friendliest - it's usually teens or young twenty-somethings working and they typically have an attitude, but I don't really care. This is totally middle-of-the-road so if you're hungry, try it out!

Always the place we go when we really don't want to spend restaurant money but want a good filling meal and we don't need to dress up! Oh yea they are open pretty late too. So after you come from a few of the bars around downtown RO its a great place for a late nite snack/meal! Reasonably priced~good food and made fast.... what else to ask for?

I know they're a chain but they are so good! Rice cooked perfectly, queso cheese with just the right amount of spiciness. Their chips are thin, fresh & crisp. I really like their guacamole--it's seemingly quite simple: avocado, cilantro and maybe very small amts of tomato and onion. Guac. should be mostly avocado and Qdoba gets that right! Veggies are grilled tender-crisp not soggy or raw. Naked or tortilla burritos with or without grilled chicken are great choices! The 2 portions are a perfect way to try different menu items! If you opt for a singular entree, be prepared because the servings are huge! The only reason I can't go 5 star is because I'm torn between who is the best Qdoba or Chipotle!

My favorite Mexican burrito joint! Being originally from the Detroit area I used to live in Ferndale so exploring all of the restaurants in and around the area was something I loved to do with friends. One of our favorite places for a quick, healthy meal was Qdoba on Main Street. I almost always go for a chicken burrito or a burrito bowl. Everything is always fresh, the staff is kind and the restaurant is always clean. Since moving out to L.A. seven years ago the closest we have here is Chipotle which is good but just a little below my Qdoba experience. Qdoba has many more options when it comes to sauces, combinations and most importantly salsas! ...now I want to visit home!!

Nothing taste better than a drunken burrito... nothing... Especially after consuming copious amounts of liquor and beer...and video taping your gal pal stumbling into the men's bathroom... yay for the staff being still kind and courteous to all the drunks.... props to being open until 3am.... I feel dirty now....

I went into Qdoba shortly after they opened and ordered a burrito. I took a bite, and... what is this glop? There was nothing even remotely Mexican about the flavoring, or the ingredients. No fresh vegetables, no chiles. Just canned glop. I threw the rest of it out and went in search of real food.

At 2am after a night of drinking this is the best entrainment your going to get. I have been here a handful of times wasted and every time its like going to a UFC fight, someone is always throwing bows and getting in fights. Come on guys who doesnt want to see a brawl break while waiting in line to get a delicious burrito? Usually i don't rate places like qdoba on yelp unless they're terrible but hey when a restaurant line turns into a fight club after 2am i cant help but review it. Plus this place is open til like 4am on the weekends and their staff is pretty friendly to me (probably because i am not getting in fights). Key phrases: Amateur fighting, open til 4am, caters to drunks

They were cluttered. I have been to other Qdoba's and liked them a lot. I was walking around Royal Oak and me and my friend decided to go there today and the experience was quite bad. The service was spotty just to get our food down the line to be made. The employees looked confused. The food was all cold. The meat was dry. The chips were stale. I also seen two other customer complaints while sitting there eating our meal. I will go to other Qdobas but I will avoid this particular location.

Slow service, no line and 34 minutes to get a Burritos... Seriously. Take a drive instead, 10.25 for a cruddy burrito try the better tasting and less expensive Chipotle

It's fast-food tacos so no one should expect 5 stars. I guess if I were compare Qdoba to Comerica Park concessions or a buffet at a Himalayan Monastery, then it would certainly be a 5 star establishment. Now, I've seen some people give 1 or 2 stars. Yeah, I understand that... but I don't go to Qdoba because it is the bomb-diggity of Mexican chains, or at least I don't delude myself with such outrageous notions. No, I go to Qdoba because it is quick, decently priced, and I can see that they are not spitting in my food. A majority of the ingredients don't taste too bad, either. Today, I enjoyed 2 beef tacos. The beef was horrible in consistency, but at least it was tasty. The other ingredients tasted fresh, and I don't feel like I have salmonella. In addition, the guy at the front counter was a hoot. Let me relate an honest exchange.... (Qdoba Guy) Would you like something to drink with that? (Me) Yeah, I'll have the Peach Honest Tea. (Qdoba Guy) It can't be that honest since it's made by a business. (Me) Touche! I'll have the not-so-honest, Honest Tea. So, while prices on food-items are rising and companies are substituting goods with inferior materials, at least the guys behind counter rock.

If you know me, you know that I love burritos. In fact, I would prefer most of my meals in burrito form. With that said, Qdoba makes a great fast food burrito, whether it be the fajita, queso, or even naked version, you can't go wrong. The prices at Qdoba are reasonable and they have a great loyalty program...and who doesn't love free food?

This is a typical franchise burrito fast-food style restaurant. I really like the fact they have some vegetarian choices and the food is good. Portions are always too big for me, but that's better than getting ripped off for small portions!

I have been here a few times and gotta say honestly that I enjoy it. I mean it isn't the best mexican food, but for a chain restaurant they aren't bad. I like the chicken quesidilla the tack salad, the burritos, what the heck I haven't tried it all but I am sure it is all good. The only bad thing is I have an allergy to raw tomatoes and their salsa isn't cooked so I get sick each time. not their fault I do enjoy the pico salsa, I really need to be careful though. Overall this is a good place and if you have their card you earn points for free food. Good enough for me.

Qdoba is no Chipotle, but if I have to settle, it's a good second. We came in for lunch and were helped quickly. I asked for extra sour cream and quacamole and was charged for that (but I know chipotle sometes charges too so I guess I can't complain!) overall the food was delicious and the location was great for people watching.

Apparently I'm the exception to the rule, but I like Qdoba. I almost always get a cheese quesadilla and my only complaint is that there is sometimes too much cheese -- not the worst thing to screw up. I just like the fact that for $5.25, I get a huge quesadilla (around 10 inches in diameter) plus a scoop of sour cream, a scoop of guacamole (most places charge extra for guac, Chipotle, for instance), lettuce and salsa. That's a lot of food for five bucks. I've also had their tacos and I think they're pretty yummy. The meat is maybe a little too greasy, but still good. It does annoy me that they changed their rewards program from 10 entrées to 12 before you get a free one, but who else even HAS a buy-blank-get-one program anyway? Also, the people are friendly. The line moves quickly. And they have sliced lemons for your iced tea, or for your water (which is free, and it's actually a normal-sized cup, not a thimble).

When it comes to *dining* in Royal Oak, I despise almost all the restaurants there so much that I tend to prefer prancing into Qdoba and just getting the feeding over and done with, as quickly as possible. That's an easy task at Qdoba. They make the food in front of you, it's all prepared in 1.5 minutes, and you're tossing away the dirty plastic plates and napkins only 6 minutes later. For a place that claims to be "fresh mex," it's anything but (the real champion of this genre is actually Chipotle Grill, which gets it done satisfactorily). Qdoba, on the other hand, is all smoke and mirrors. YES they are grilling up 30 marinated chicken breasts almost within hand's reach, making the facility smell good as all hell. But I've never seen them ONCE moving meat from the grill into my "tacos". Instead, the meat always comes out of the little tupperware buckets underneath the sneeze-guard, greasy and room-temperature as can be. (I suppose all the grilling is to prepare a few days' worth of tupperware buckets at once). The toppings are never bad, exactly, but they never strike you as fresh. I'd say there's a healthy proto-wilting process in full effect at any given time. Nevertheless, the food can be chomped down quickly; like a child, I'm forever thrilled by the crunchy sensations of a hard-shell taco; the flavors are always good enough... but 90% of the time, my stomach feels just a little *off* an hour after the meal. I think it's the grease-overproduction. There are, surprisingly, a few things to really give them credit for. 1) Their guac, which I don't really like, is always super fresh, as advertised. I'll admit, that I've never seen their guac even beginning to discolor which is the tell-tale sign of unfresh. I'm obviously a little skeptical as to HOW they pull off this feat, but, it does seem to keep up its appearance. 2) I'm totally in favor of the fact that they named their restaurant using an unpronounceable nonsense word. WTF is a "qdoba" ??? And how are you supposed to say it? Everyone and their cat ends up saying "kuh-DOE-bah", but I think it's a logical leap to get there. Is there any real word in any language with a "qd" pairing? Totally insane! I approve their lunacy! Just not their lunch.

Qdoba gets another star from me for some recent revelations. They make a lot more items there fresh on site than I realized. The tortilla soup (try it in the gumbo) is just the right amount of spicy, savory and filling. Now they kind of do like Panera where you can get two smaller portions of certain items for $5.99. Bonus for having a rewards card too, I've gotten a few free meals already.

Qdoba is pretty good. Mexican is one of my favorite dishes, and after a hankering and having never stepped in here before, my girlfriend and I decided to stop in. The food was ok, although my gf thought the cashier was little rude. If you've never been to Qdoba, think subway, only with mexican dishes: you get to create your own meal and it's made right in front of you. I got the nachos, and although there were very good, they really skimp on the meat and lay on the sauce (gaucamole, sour cream) & beans really thick.

Easy fast friendly and about the same everytime. It is a great place to take my son as it is healthy (has vegetables) compared to other fast foods. I prefer Chipotle, but Qdobe hits the spot. They add extra ingredients and pile it on. The workers are friendly and seem to enjoy it as much as restaurant work can be enjoyed. Not sure why some of the reviewers had 2 stars, as there reviews sounded rather favorable?

OK food, if there not busy stop in. You will not eat and say "Wow, thats the best thing I've ever had in my mouth." **2 stars for no sense of humor. They wanted me to join the Q club, I guess you get coupons etc. Well the girl behind the counter said on my b-day they will mail me a buritto. I yelled back "Mail me a buritto?" She scoffed and said "No, a coupon for a free one." No one in the place thought it was funny. It WAS hilarious. They were just lame.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
