I went here with a co-worker and man I was really impressed. We went there 2 days in a row for lunch and I gotta say the sandwiches are "da-bomb". Definitely check this place out if your visiting this area. For sure, next time I come Portage, I'll definitely make sure to take a whole sub back home with me. The sandwiches are made to order and each type of meat is hand cut to perfection for your sandwich. Remember to get their giardiniera!

Great value and taste. If the price throws you off, just remember that you get a lot of food (all sub's are 16 inches and cut into 4ths for convenience). I had a #3 (pepperoni and cheese and capicola sub) which was excellent. Friendly service as well. Very clean restaurant.

This is my favorite deli sub place in the zoo (my wife's as well, she's from the Lansing area and made me try it). The subs are 4 sections big, they cut the meat and cheese in front of you (actually pretty important for provolone) and the selection is good. If you get a tuna sub, make sure to get the vinegar and oil on it. Ken (the owner, really nice guy), made my wife get it on there for me and it really makes it something else and is totally the right call. Better Made chips, decent cookies and both the white and wheat bread are good. It's not super fast, but they make the dang thing right in front of you. Totally worth it. Do yourself a solid and give it a go.

Was introduced to these spectacular subs by a friend. Can't thank her enough! These are way better than Subway and Quiznos put together!! They slice the meats for each sub as you order! Can't get any fresher than that!!! Highly recommend you try them!

I love this place! Not only are the subs great, but the staff is wonderful as well. They always make you feel welcome and ask you about your day. My favorite sub is the #8, its a classic. The bread is fantastic and I love that they slice the meat and chesse fresh for each sub.

This is my favorite sub place in the Kalamazoo/Portage area. The meat and cheese are freshly sliced for each sub and the bread is soft and delicious. The veggie choices are adequate. I personally enjoy getting the peppers and giardiniera on my subs. The staff has always been extremely friendly and a pleasure to chat with while they make my sub.

I agree with Kara's review - a perfectly adequate sub place. The Hits: + Ken - the dude behind the counter. Friendly, funny, and helpful. + Freshly sliced meats and cheeses guarantees a fresh sandwich. + A lot of food for the money. The Misses: - The veggies were pretty weak and the options were limited. - The bread was way too soft. - Underwhelming location and space. If I am in Kalamazoo again on business, I will have no problems hitting up JGS for lunch.

This is a perfectly adequate sub place. I like that the staff is friendly and seems to enjoy their jobs (unlike most people who work at most Subways around this area), and I absolutely LOVE that they slice the meats and cheese as you order. I wish the lettuce and tomatoes were fresher (the lettuce seemed wilted and the tomatoes looked sallow), and I think it's kind of weird that they're always so empty at lunch times. The subs really are giant, but you can order them by the half. They also do a pretty good lunch special which is a half sub, chips, and a drink for $5 and change. There's a $5 minimum on credit cards, but your bill would only come to under $5 if you got just a drink and a cookie.

This is my favorite sub place. When I was in college at Michigan State I would go to the EL location frequently. Since graduating and moving to Chicago I visit Jersey Giant's location in Kalamazoo every time I drive pass the Westnedge Ave exit on 94. Unfortunately it is not as often as I would like, normally 2 times a year, and I try to get it both on my way out of Chicago and then heading back home. The bread is soft and fresh. The toppings are simple but add to the sandwich. I always get the #2 with lettuce, onion, tomato, banana peppers (a little kick and perfect complement to your sandwich), and oil/vinegar. The meat and cheeses are sliced in front of you so you know they are fresh. The sandwiches are huge and I always find a way to eat the entire thing. Jersey Giant always lives up to my expectations (which is tough to do) and I just wish it was closer to home. This place puts Jersey Mike's to shame. Better service, better quality, better price (by a lot).
