The food is OK -- some things good, some things just fair. I'm giving it a low grade partly because of service, which was particularly snippy on a recent visit. But the main reason I'm giving it just 2 stars is the presence of four flat-screen TVs in the main dining area. Is this really necessary? Must we have TV everywhere we go? Although the volume is turned down, the "idiot box" is inevitably distracting.

As an FYI, I have to completely disagree with jason p. and his claim that Pi's is "standard." It is anything but! I have tried many, many Chinese places throughout the land and rarely do I find food so consistently good and CHEAP! I mean, seriously, any entree is more than enough food for 2 meals. All-around awesome.

We have been to Pi's at least 3 times . the food and service has always been very good . ( Why else would we keep going back ) ?? The beverage service has also been speedy and the restaurant is super clean . Great Place, Great prices, agree with Phillip......

Throughout my many years growing up in the mid-Michigan area, I've been to Pi's so many times - I've probably paid someone's annual salary. Or, well, it wasn't my personal money - but we've been there enough to do it is what I'm driving at. My dad and I used to drive there once a week (I forget which day) just to chow down on their legendary buffet. Heck, I even remember my first time eating at Pi's. It was after a field trip when we all went to Saginaw for something. On the way back we stopped at Pi's. Most of the other kids wanted to stop at McDonald's or something boring, but the teachers weren't having it. Frankly, I wasn't either. I wanted to try something new. I'm glad we did eat there. What makes this place stand out above any other Chinese place with a buffet? Quite honestly... nothing. The food here is always good, delicious and cheap - but what Chinese buffet that's worth its weight in salt isn't? I'm not one to knock someone's hustle, but how hard can it be to make delicious food when half the items are stuff that's deep-fried and slathered with a healthy dose of monosodium glutamate? The parking situation is a bit hairy here as well. It's right next to a hotel, so unless you're parked right next to the restaurant you aren't really sure whether you're in the hotel's parking and face getting towed or whether you're in a safety zone. I wouldn't worry about it too much though, it is only Midland after all. Pricing, as others have mentioned, is pretty cheap. Like most Chinese places. You can't go wrong ordering something off this menu because you're not really making a large investment either way. Bring some of those Midland gals here for dinner and they might just think you're awesome - even though they might prefer Genji, they won't turn their pretty little noses up at Pi's. Besides, they're both just as authentic Asian cuisine as you'll find in Midland. Pi's is a good go-to spot and great to have in your knowledge database. Although it really is nothing special. Given the chance to dine here, I certainly wouldn't turn it down but I wouldn't jump out of my seat with excitement either unless I had one of those weird cravings like a pregnant woman. After all, you could eat at Manchu Wok in the mall... just to prove that things can ALWAYS be worse...

Pi's is the best! We would go to the lunch buffet almost on a weekly basis, and the food was amazing. The chicken is amazing, and the crab cheese is the best I've ever had. Granted, the "Chinese" food is Americanized, but for the Midland area, it's amazing. I would order take-out once a week as well, and it was a quick in and out.

I think Midland needs to stop pretending and understand what good Chinese food is. This is not acceptable. The hot and sour soup was a conglomeration of water and corn starch. I had heard it was a sister restaurant to Golden Palace. The Golden Palace has passable Hot and Sour soup and a fun, good tasting egg roll. What I received tonight was absolutely trash and that is where I threw it after one spoonful of the soup. How sad. Midland has no excuse for not having a good Asian restaurant.

I'm not trying to create a family war here, but I prefer China Palace to Pi's any day. I find that Pi's sauces on things is bland. It doesn't have as much flavor or spice when it's needed. For example, the Chicken and Broccoli is one of my staples at China Palace. Their brown sauce is so good there, but the stuff Pi's served was almost a thick chicken broth, not that great. Edible, but not great. Every time I go to PI's with a group from work, I wish we had gone to China Palace instead. I think people put too much value in how Pi's "looks" vs. what China Palace has (which is very dark inside and kind of dingy looking).

Pretty decent food. Not cheap but not expensive. Some of the dishes are just swimming in sauce and the sweet and sour sauce is way too sweet. Menus are similar to the other Pi's/Genji's restaurants. If you want something quick and are going with a group it's not terrible but there's nothing that you'll be craving later on.

So disappointing! I normally really like Asian Express, so I thought I'd like this place because this is their sister restaurant. I tried this place for the first time today to celebrate a birthday and I was very unimpressed. I assumed that at least some of the recipes would be the same at both restaurants, but they didn't seem to be. The crabmeat cheese (my favorite) tasted okay but they were cold. The szechwan chicken, which they don't serve at Asian Express, is normally a very spicy dish, but it was completely bland here. The fried rice was completely inedible because it was dry and flavorless, even when I added more soy sauce to it. My son got the brown rice and he said that was also inedible. I'm not planning to come back any time soon.

Pi's has the best Chinese buffet in Michigan in terms of quality. We live in the Metro Detroit area which unfortunately has no good Chinese buffets so we always make a point to stop at Pi's when we are in the Midland area. "Mr. Pi" needs to branch out to the Metro Detroit area and bring some of his Chinese goodness to our neck of the woods! The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. The Crab Rangoon is amazing and the Mu Shoo Pork, Princess Chicken, and Mongolian Beef are also very good.

Went here for the lunch buffet. Service was good and the interior is nice. Jasmine or green tea available (green tea is from bags but good, not bitter upon standing). Lunch buffet is adequate, with no vegetarian options other than an unremarkable vegetable fried rice with almost no vegetables, the plain white rice, and a vegetable lo mein with very few vegetables (the occasional thin shred of carrot). If you ask for it they'll bring you some bagged salad with your choice of one of two dressings. At least the dishes are labeled so you know what you're getting, and if you like shrimp, they've got it in some sort of white sauce. The other vegetarian ordered off the menu and got vegetables and tofu in a white sauce, which is probably the way to go if you're vegetarian. The onion rings were good, if a bit reminiscent of whatever else was fried in the oil. Three kinds of soup (Russian vegetable?) which I didn't try as I figured there was no way I'd be able to eat any of them. Standard dry almond cookies you'd get anywhere and the fortune cookies were stale; I like fortune cookies but didn't finish mine. If you eat meat and you're looking for standard Americanized Chinese food in nice surroundings, you might like this place. Getting out afterwards might be a trick as you'll be cut off by all the people turning into the McDonald's drivethrough next door.

It seems that every time I visit relatives in Midland, we inevitably end up at Pi's. Sigh... Sorry, but Pi's is just not good...especially the buffet. Their entrees all lack the 'authentic' flavors that make Chinese/Asian food uniquely delicious. Just because you can throw chicken, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and baby corn into a wok and cook it does not make the resulting dish Chinese food.

Bland and boring food. Everything on buffet is nondescript and forgettable. The worst part about the restaurant for me is the carpet. Absolutely filthy! Next time you are there take a look. You will agree.

Pi's is the first chinese food I ever tried! I was afraid to try it until I was 12 or 13 years old and my sister dragged me there (and INSISTED I try crabmeat and cheese. I was scared and completely nervous. needless to say, I am so HOOKED to this place!) The first thing I ever ordered was Beef and Vegetables and it was absolutely amazing for never having had chinese food before. Since then, I always go during the buffet times. As someone mentioned before, I'm sure it's not authentic, and it's true that a lot of it is deep fried and smothered in sauce, but that's what makes it SO good! I think what Pi's has that many other chinese restaurants don't is the freshness of their buffet. Everything is crispy that's supposed to be and nothing is hard or chewy. Naturally their prices have gone up in the last few years, and I will admit that it doesn't seem as good as it USED to be, but I still love the food. Although it's not my favorite restaurant in the world, it's a place I always return to when I'm back in Midland! It's atmosphere is professional, modern, and I RARELY have a problem with service (and that's been 8 years I've been going there.) The parking is a little bad, but I have NEVER been towed! There is not specified spots for Motor Inn and Pi's, but honestly, the Motor Inn sucks so nobody stays there and there is nearly ALWAYS a spot to park that is within reasonable distance from the doors.

Mmmyeah. Pi's is descent. I order food there for many company lunches and events. Sometimes the staff is very nice, sometimes they are rude. As a vegetarian, I like that you can sub tofu for any meat in any entre. They offer some Thai and other Asian treats. It's always busy. NEVER order the buffet. Buffets suck.

Best Sesame Chicken and Crab Cheese! The Princess Chicken is very tasty and the buffet is well stocked and clean. They have a huge seating area and there is never a wait to be seated. They also have a great family special Sunday through Thursday.

Pi's is the flagship of the Pi's restaurant empire in Mid-Michigan. Others include Asian Express in Midland, and the Genji Steakhouse and Sushi Bars in Midland and Saginaw. The selection here is excellent, customization is always possible, and both in-house and carry out service are well done. A buffet option is offered for both dinner and lunch, but I would recommend ordering off the menu to get something right out of the wok.

Good selection in lunch buffet. Restaurant is clean. Popular lunch place for nearby chemical company. There are other choices too such as china palace, and golden buffet. They are all similar. Dinner entree menu is americanized, poorly excecuted, and expensive for what you get. I would just stick with generic dishes like orange chicken.

My first experience with this place was one of the best for Chinese cuisine in the area but the food quality has since gone down and the dining atmosphere is much louder than my initial visit to the point of being annoying sometimes.

Phillip L is, of course, completely accurate when it comes to Pi's. Midland has plenty of standard fare Chinese restaurants but I crave Pi's and basically MUST have it when I'm back in Midland. For the price, it can't be beat. I think Dow Chemical makes some secret chemical that Pi's puts in its food...it all just tastes so good! I think it's the sauces. I get so excited for the lunch buffet, I fast like it's the day before Thanksgiving, so I have enough room for all the different food. Their lo mein noodles, crab meat cheese, and sesame chicken are particularly good. I'm hungry just thinking about it.

Usually the takeout standard in midland. This little Chineese restaurant is pretty good. I've been here for rehearsal dinners, takeout, and dinner, and they are all fantastic american/chineese food. Pretty standard menu as far as i'm concerned but the food can be repeated in other restaurants.
