Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I come here frequently because it is near my office, and because I love their sister location on Beech at Grand River, which has some of the best deep dish pizza you will find anywhere. (I recommend pepperoni and Italian sausage.) Not at this location, though... My biggest problem with Mama Mia's on Plymouth is the inconsistency of everything. I have had great pizza here, and I have had bad pizza here. I have had good service here, and I have had bad service. I have had incredible Italian food (all sorts of dishes) and not so great Italian food. I wish I could give them more than three stars, but my last visit was just barely a two star visit. The time before that, it was an easy four. So why go back? Because every once in a while, I go in and they hit me with great everything, and I feel guilty for ever doubting them in the first place.

WOW! What a great place to eat. I was in the area on business and my co-workers and I decided to try this place. What a gem!! The food is wonderful, afordable and lots of it. And the service.... what can I say... We were treated like family! We will be going back here whenever we are in the area and recommending this places to others. Thank you, thank you for such a wonderful dining experience!

I've been here twice for banquets. Food is overcooked (think dry chicken) and not fresh (limp iceberg lettuce). Drinks are watered down, and come slowly. The waitresses seem to hate the banquets, and they weren't finished setting up by the time the guests were arriving. I had to go in search of more place settings for the party, because they didn't finish setting the tables, then they took off (mind you, I wasn't even the person hosting the party - I was just sitting there and wondering, uh, are we going to get any silverware? How about some water?) The first lovely banquet was with a bunch of really old ladies. I went to the bathroom straight away and almost slipped and fell, the tile was really wet on the floor (condensation? the bathroom gave off the vibe that it wasn't properly ventilated). I went and told someone right away that it was really dangerous, and that there were 25 old gals that were going to pee within the next hour, I was sure, so go dry the floor. Lo and behold, an hour later, one of them fell, and I had to go pick her up. She ended up being okay, but for fuck's sakes, get a mop. No one in the restaurant seemed to care whether or not she was okay. No apology, nothing. The next horrible banquet I was dragged to involved lots of families. It was the middle of January, and their overflow parking is across the street. They hadn't shoveled any of the walk between their overflow parking lot and banquet door -- they only shoveled/salted between their main parking lot and restaurant door. So I had to pick and climb over the ice, while juggling a birthday present, a 9 month old baby and my 90 year old grandmother. Classy. I said something to the bar manager (?), and he just shrugged me off. If the food and their attitude wasn't so shitty, I'd say, have at it! Sue the place and make it your own! But you probably don't want it, anyways.

This restaurant was nice but the server got irritated with us for wanting more bread than three pieces. It was very awkward because when you would ask for something she wold have some snippy remark (acting like we should have know to ask before or not to ask at all!) to give back and then would go and get what you had requested. This was the first time to the restaurant and will be my last (at least for awhile).

Growing up close to the Livonia area I've always driven by this place but never stopped in. Nothing about the large brick building catches your eyes. What we found inside makes up for any lack of outdoor decor. After typing in a few places to grab a pizza in the area this place popped up and the reviews were pretty good. The family decided to take a drive and try it out. We happened to go in on a Sat. evening. It was busy so we waited a few minutes for a booth we wanted. I'll begin with what impressed us the most. It was clean inside and the host at the door (same one mentioned later) was very polite. I enjoy a beer every now and then with my pizza so I asked the server what she carried on tap. In return I was confronted by a detailed craft beer menu that kept me captivated for a few minutes (turns out they have 50 or so). I asked for some details about the Detroit dwarf they had on tap. The server was honest and gave me a basic answer but overall she needed help. At that point she flagged down the 'beer guru'. A younger gentlemen comes over and introduces himself and asks how he can help. We couldn't have been happier with what happened next. The kid knows his beer like a butcher knows a bulls ass. He steered me in the right direction. You could see the passion when he found out I was interested in something other than bud light. Evidently, a large portion of their business has been regular so they know who's who. He kind of figured it was our first time in and gave us the run down about the pizza and establishment. After he walked away we all were left with the feeling he was good friend. Anyway, I want to say they've been around for 65 years or so, I cant remember. Still using the same pizza recipe. We ordered a large pepperoni and mushroom with a large Greek salad. Damn, the salad was huge and they used real feta cheese and whole brined olives not the cruddy cheap crap. Salad dressing was for sure homemade and the breadsticks were probably the best butter and cheese laced things I've ever had. The server in between was consistent and kind. The pizza... It was a cross between neapolitan and thicker crust. Just right so the toppings didnt fall off when i picked it up. Cheese wasnt chewy it was almost creamy and the toppings were fresh mushrooms with the old school pepperonis we all remember from childhood. My wife commented on how it was one of the better pies shes had. I'd have to agree. My mouth waters thinking about it. The price was competitive. I think around $13-14? for a 16'. Your not buying one of those $5 throw up in an hour pizzas from little sleazers here. Btw, I noticed a little sleazers LARGE pizza is actually 14 inches. Most places serve a medium pizza at 14 inches. Back to the review....We enjoyed it all very much and will be back shortly. I want to try out a few new beers. After dinner, the kid came back and thanked us for the opportunity, which we felt was very nice in this day and age. The overall experience was pleasant and very surprising. I'm upset I never tried this place out sooner. Live and learn I guess. It was a pleasure to have it as my first review as a yelper.

Went there Last Friday Night, we had a huge party of 21 people, the wait staff was very attentive and made us feel at home, the food was excellent, the minestrone soup was so yummy, the house dressing was tasty, in the Chef's Special, the chicken in it...was sooooo tender, the Fettuccine Alfredo was enough for two people. The Eggplant Parmesan was enough for two people.....the bread sticks were excellent, we definitely will be back....can't wait to try more of the menu. This is a hidden gem in the city.

This is by far the best Italian food this side of Italy. I came here tonight with my wife and kids. We were greeted as soon as we walked In and seated right away. Our waitress who waited on us today always treats us like family. I had my usual chicken florentine and my wife had chicken and broccoli. Both came out perfect. My little guy had the ribs. I tried a bite maybe even 2 it was tender and cooked perfectly. Junior had fried chicken. It came with soup and salad. I had the blue cheese dressing which I'm told the make in house. It was awesome. Oh and how could I forget the bread sticks?! They are the best around. After we finished our server told us they wanted to buy Us dessert. If you haven't had some of paulies cheesecake then you must go just to try that itself. I Got engaged here in there banquet hall back in September of 2000 and I have been hooked ever since.

Been working in the area and a few of my co-workers and I have gotten pizza from here twice so far. It was absolutely amazing, loaded toppings that were fresh, and just the right amount of sauce. Would recommend this place to anyone passing through.

I visit once a month; for a car club meeting. They have terrific banquet room for groups of 30-~150, perhaps more. Plenty of parking adjacent to the banquet room. I'm giving them 5-stars for their ability to handle large groups without any fussing. The kitchen and waitstaff does an excellent job of getting the food out promptly & correctly. They are even willing to tally separate checks for large groups. Amazing! This is not fine dining; but it is very, very good dining experience The food is very good. The menu is varied and has many selections. I like the Spicy Italian sausage with linguine. It is nicely spice'd and an excellent choice if you are not in the mood for red sauce. Great salads. The portions are generous for the price. WiFi available.

Place was awesome! Food was awesome! Service was awesome! Server was very friendly! Best kept secret!!!

Some of the best Italian food in town. The staff is always polite and the food is always delicious. Great salad and bread. Never had any issues with anything i have order from here.

Seated quickly. Nice waitress fast attentive service. I had the veal scallopine in Marsala sauce, upgraded to Caesar salad, and garlic mashed potatoes. Salad was ok. It has a lot of dressing but I found it to be bland. The veal came as two small slices against a mound of potatoes and was covered in a red blush sauce. There were 2 mushrooms and again this red blush sauce which was yummy but it didn't look like Marsala sauce that I've had a hundred times over . I was to hungry to inquire and it was tasty. $16 not sure I got the right dish. Hubs had one of their specials. It was yummy too. Can't remember what it was
(3)Liz B.
The pizza here was excellent! Cheesy and saucy, with fresh tasting crust. I ordered a large pepperoni & cheese pizza and a small antipasto salad with Italian dressing. The dressing for the salad was a little watery, but overall it wasn't a bad meal (just a little pricey for pizza and salad) Next time I'll try the pasta :-)

Place has been there forever Wife and I finally stopped in a month ago. Enjoyed the food . Had the chicken Parm and enjoyed the meal and the spaghetti sauce was done right not to tart and had flavor. Prices are moderate and affordable . Def would go back.
(4)Jay H.
Food was pretty good for the price, server was fast and polite. we will definitely come back!

Eat here if you like tasty Italian comfort food and great beer. This place has been around for a long time and appears to be family run. The pizza is tasty, but I'd recommend steering clear of the veal Marsala. We've also had the lasagna (excellent) and some chicken pasta special which was solid. The beer list is unexpected (apparently the bar manager is a total michigan beer geek) and amazing. Some of our favorite dates are pizza and delicious beer here. If you're in the area it's totally worth a stop.

This is my opinion but I think this place is the best restaurant in Redford and Livonia area.. Everything is always fresh and tasty... Great family environment!!
(5)Sarah H.
My family has been coming here for over thirty years. It's family owned third generation Italian cooking and I love it. Shame on me for taking so long to review it, we haven't been in a while. I ordered an amaretto sour, delicious and well deserved after a long days work in the yard. My dad ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, the meatballs were just the right texture and not a bunch of breadcrumbs. Boyfriend ordered the meat lovers pizza, the crust was perfect and there was plenty of toppings. I had the "Tour of Italy" which gives you a nice portion of meat ravioli, fettuccine alfredo, and lasagna, plus a salad. In fact, we all had salads. The breadsticks are addicting. Be warned you will devour them in the blink of an eye, and possibly fight over the last one. Then we had dessert, tiramisu for me and cannolis for the boys. I don't get here often but the food is just amazing every time. Service is excellent too, quick and attentive, and so warm and friendly. We had a lot of leftovers which she neatly boxed for us. I ate mine the next day cold and it was still tasty!

This is a cozy little neighborhood place. Very casual and good if you're looking for something convenient and tasty. I have now been there three times. The food is decent, not out of the world but tasty. The breadsticks are awesome! They have a great beer menu and I would go back to try the variety of craft and microbrews they have available. Wine selection is not that great and they only offer an unidentified house wine by the glass. The identified wines are only sold by the bottle. My last visit there was disappointing because of the service. Our server was not rude but she was not very friendly compared to the servers I experienced on my previous two visits. This would not have been a big deal had I not seen her really chatting other tables up. What really turned me off was when she came and asked us if we wanted dessert smack in the middle of while we were eating our entrees. It seemed like she was really in a rush to get us out since we had only just received the entrees. She didn't even ask us how the entrees were or if we needed anything before she asked if we wanted dessert. Overall, this is a good family place to go to. The decor is very dated, looks like it hasn't been touched in years, but you don't go in for the atmosphere. The food is big time , stick to your ribs comfort food.

I work in Redford and frequently the folks here order pizza from Mama Mia. I've had the pizza, canollis and meatball subs. All are fantastic. The pizza is thin crust - not quite neopolitan but not quite American doughy, and it's really good. The sauce is tangy, lots of cheese and the crust has a nice chew to it. The Canolli was AMAZING, but it's $3 each - a little steep. The meatball sub was REALLY good, a great value at $5. Four large meatballs that are totally homemade. The meatballs were moist, and actually cooked a nice "medium" so they were tender and juicy. Ample sauce and cheese too! Definitely have to try the sit-down service though, I've only done carry-out.
(4)Brittany R.
i can't say i love this place, and i don't hate it either. i come here once in a while for their pizza and breadsticks, and both are delicious. their pizza could use a little more sauce, but the breadsticks are always perfect. they are always fresh and hot, and nice and chewy. i've also tried their lasagna, which was just good (nothing to brag about). the service is nice, i've never had any problems with orders or anything like that. usually this place is dead unless you go at dinner time and even then depending on what day of the week it is, it just may still be dead. but if you love italian food and you like having delicious bread to go along with your meal then this is the place for you!
(4)Chels D.
Great decor, I love this location the best, has history. Food is awesome, kinda pricey but definitely worth it! Pizza is amazing, as well as the ravioli and lasagna, breadsticks and oil are superb!! What more could an Italiana ask for!!!

Good food. Slow service. Kids meals were $9.50 each! And that doesn't include the drink! First and last time.

Go to the beech& grand river location, food is always consistently good! ,

I've been here twice and the food was good both times, but the service is inconsistent. if they have a large party the same time you're there, God help you. My family and I were there a couple months back and we were the only party beside a large group on the other side of the dining room. We had three people wait on us, including the owner, who seems to always be doing paperwork on a table in the dining room. It took longer than usual to get drinks, but it wasn't the worst experience I've ever had. The first time I ever went to Mama Mia, I thought the waitress was going to sit down and chat with us and follow us home. She was annoyingly chatty, which I guess is better than being ignored, but it was a bit off-putting. The lasagna is good, although if you order it with Italian sausage, be aware that it doesn't come IN the lasagna - it's a big sausage link in the dish. It was still good though. My niece couldn't get enough of the breadsticks and I have to admit they're pretty good - chewy, warm and Parmesany.
(3)Liz R.
I can only review the pizza and breadsticks (when we have a nice enough waitress that will slip us a bowl of them since pizza is not considered an entree, and you only get the bread with entrees). Good pizza. Not oh-my-God awesome, but consistently good. We prefer other places (Mother's in Plymouth and Palermos in Canton, to name a few), but if we're driving by and pizza sounds good right then we'll stop. I think they use canned mushrooms, which is a turn off for me. I like their hand-tossed crust - there's enough of a chewy handle left for me to dip in ranch. Other yelpers are correct, their bread, when prepared just right, is addictive. Dripping in a savory combination of garlic butter and crack. The inside of the place is nothing to write home about. Clean, but very casual. There's a banquet room attached, so restaurant food can be slow when there's a party in the other room. Never a wait for a table. Decent.
(3)Mia K.
great local Italian joint! been coming here for years and they've got a chef that knows what he's doing! the breadsticks alone are worth a nod! love their pizza and fish dishes. nice family atmosphere. we had a family party here recently and everyone raved about the food!
(4)Ks K.
Had take out for 1st time from here. Messed up pizza order. 1/2 sausage became pepperoni & sausage. Not good for a someone that doesn't eat pepperoni & someone else who doesn't eat sausage or pepperoni. Oh, top it off, our canoli had a red onion slice in it & tasted like garlic. Yuck. Hope this was just a bad night for them.

This is a great family restaurant. Everything is fresh and dishes are amazing. The homemade sauce is so good. Breadsticks are the best and so is the pizza! There is a big variety of local beers, enjoy reading and trying many different brews. It is a favorite place of ours
(5)Mic M.
As Connie G said, the bread-sticks were awesome! Along with the great doughy greatness of the bread was the pizza which was piping hot and very cheesy. The crust was a bit thinner than I like, but the sauce was very tasty. We also enjoyed a bowl of the antipasto salad that was decent as well, but not quite as good as Buddy's, still it was good. By the way...a large is really LARGE for four people, we actually brought a bunch home. All in all, our party was satisfied and agreed that Mama Mia's was worthy of a return visit.
(4)Nicole C.
My husband and I use to love Mama Mia's, we even had a wonderful wedding shower there. However, the last two times I have ordered carry out from there I have found dark short hair in my pasta. Disgusting! Because I refuse to return food and request something new (in fear of them doing something worse) I have just thrown it away both times. One time I could deal with, but two times right in a row?! Sadly we will not return.

A Livonia institution for decades. Delicious pizza and salad. Good service.
(4)Lori M.
Wonderful place. Great service! Delicious food. I could eat their calamari everyday! They also make very good pizza. We have taken a group here on a Friday night and everyone was super happy!!
(5)Mibeertaster W.
This is a completely revamped restaurant. The son Paulie has revamped the bar, it is now stocked with 5 (Soon to be 10) taps of Michigan Craft beers. The liquor bar is stocked with Michigan craft vodkas and bourbon. The service is top notch now, they just put in a new computer ordering system. Manager Paulie is happy to talk craft beer with you. I would absolutely recommend the Calimari appetizer. Get that, and a large Greek salad, and a couple of pints Michigan Craft Beers and you will leave happy. For the kids, order a pizza. If you left this place in disgust 5 years ago, I understand, but it is not that restaurant anymore, try it again. Daily specials and fantastic beers. (not just Bells, they have Greenbush and Right Brain and other good draughts.)
(5)Diem T.
My girlfriend and I moved in the sub division right across the street from Mama Mia about 4 months ago and we were hungry for pizza but sick of the chain delivery places so I remembered enjoying the pizzeria style pizza my mom and dad intoduced me to when I was a kid over 20 years ago so we decided to order a large ham and pepperoni , and now it's a every Friday night staple in our house . My 4 year old say "it's the yummiest pizza, dad " . The carry out orders are always done n a timely fashion and the pie is always hot when I get home and ready to eat . We also enjoyed the beef ravioli we had on super bowl Sunday , my only complaint would be the chicken as I felt it tasted like chicken from a Chinese restaurant . All in all the family members that greet me at the door are kind and always full of laughs . Love this joint !

Mama Mia's is one of those places I always go to when I'm in town, at least once, hopefully more. My parents always got their pizzas here in my growing up years, the 60's. This time I invited the friends I was staying with to go with me do I could treat them. I got a specialty pizza that had ingredients they didn't like so I was on my own and had leftovers for several days, even with the smaller size. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, mainly because the Greek olives didn't taste like the kind I'm used to. But every day when I had a piece or two for leftovers, it seemed to taste better and better so overall I was happy with it. My friends' mother got a standard type pizza with sausage, onion and green pepper and I had a taste. I think I would just stick to that next time. It was really good. My friend got lasagna and it was fantastic, her husband got chicken parmesan, which was delicious as well. Hmmm, making myself hungry writing this. The only hitch was the breadsticks which we had to request more than once, had to wait for, and the second batch was smaller. Newsflash: If you're going to make the world's best breadsticks, don't be surprised if people order more! Be prepared, be prompt, and be cheerful. Your tip may depend on this. If you can't afford to supply more, charge a buck for them. I don't care as long as I get them. 101111

I have been coming here for years. I would be the duke but the food is so good I sometimes forget to check in :). What I can say is that I come here for a very specific dish. The Chicken Florentine is amazing. Lightly breaded chicken breast stuffed with broccoli and creamy Alfredo sauce. The chicken is always cooked perfectly and the sauce is fantastic. Not to mention they have some of the best home baked bread I have ever had. This place is an all around great experience and the service is always very friendly. I highly recommend this place. Please follow me on Instagram @foodporndetroit thank you!!!!! Almost forgot to mention how awesome the service is. I have been coming here since I was just a little weeeee lad lol and never one time have I ever had a bad experience. The service is amazing.
