I am an out of town bride planning a wedding in the city of Detroit. I was very excited to try some of the cakes at GM Paris Bakery as I loved some of the featured cakes on the website. I scheduled a tasting one weekend when I was in town for a specific time on a specific day. Unfortunately after driving over 40 minutes for the cake tasting with my fiancé, we were told by someone at the bakery that the baker was running late and had not left any samples. They asked if we could wait another hour for her to arrive, which we couldn't do because we were scheduled to meet with a florist in Ann Arbor. The person said the baker would call me and we could set up another tasting in a few months. I understand that things happen, but I have yet to hear from the baker or receive a formal apology for her mistake. So, if you're a bride to be and have a great deal of time on your hands then this might work for you, but for someone crunched for time the lack of professionalism might be enough to make you seek another baker for your big day.

We've been getting my sons cakes here since his 1st birthday and absolutely love it here ...only problem is his birthday is usually around Fat Tuesday which makes it tough to get his cake done, but we usually make it happen.....they do great art on the cakes and they taste the best around.

They are making paczki's already. I saw them sold at a party store in Plymouth on Sunday Feb 27, 2011. This bakery has the best paczkis because they add loads of filling in them.

Hubby and I collectively decided to celebrate Fat Tuesday a day early so as to avoid the lines. Having never had a paczki before (outside of the ones you get at Meijer), I was very excited to try an authentic one. I was not dissapointed!!! The Bavarian cream, lemon, and apple are my favorites. In fact, we loved them so much that my husband decided to get more to bring to our family today. After waiting in line for two hours, he finally got his order. They were out of Bavarian cream, so he had to wait for another batch to finish--that's fine, the fresher the better. Unfortunately, that last batch must've been rushed because when I bit into one the center of the paczki was completely raw--as in stretching like bubble gum. I'm sure it was just because they were so swamped but, at any rate, it put me off paczkis for the rest of the day. Still our first experience on Monday was so great that I'd feel badly taking away any more than one star. Definitely check this place out, but maybe don't go ON Fat Tuesday.

Another delightful visit for Paczki Day. Stopped in today (Fat Tuesday proper) and there was a line but man--have they got this thing dialed in. An extra star for you, Paris Bakery! 4 ladies at the counter quickly filling your requests, 3 paczki in each hand at a time right into the box. It was QUITE impressive. The older fella with the keyboard playing Polish tunes with his eagle trucker hat on was adorable and put a smile on my face as I waited the approx 10 minutes for my calorie bombs. They also had the store decorated with kid-colored pages of an illustrated stately paczek king. As I got closer I could see the amazing work they were doing behind the scenes getting the paczki ready for our tummies--sugar powdering en masse, rolling the dough into balls and placing them on large sheet pans. All in all a very well oiled machine. Paczki still taste fantastic as well! My bakery of choice, for sure!

Decently good bakery, some things are really delicious. It's never particularly well stocked with all products but it does the trick in a pinch, besides I always stop in after lunch at Hope's so by then they are probably picked over a bit.. I am resentful that they no longer carry my fave cookies from my youth, the large round sugar cookies dotted with unmelted chocolate chips right on top. I ask but nope they won't do them. Why? What? Lame. The other cookies are decent but none compare. They carry kolachy though and I have a soft spot for kolachy. At any rate the cakes are nothing fancy but they taste good. I like the strawberry shortcake one the best. They also have decent boston cream pie. The sweet dough coffee cakes are generally tasty, I particularly like the sour cream ones. The pound cakes are all very good, I am partial to the zucchini and banana nut. I have stopped in here a couple of years for paczki when I could not trek to Hamtramck and they worked. I am a custard, strawberry or raspberry fan and these are tasty versions of those three varieties. They sell em all year but they are of course more deluxe and hideous for you on paczki day itself. The rest of the donuts are merely ok. The refrigerator cases hold decent pierogi from Polish Harvest in Hamtramck, including my must have farmer's cheese variety. They aren't cheap but they taste nice so I usually pick some up and make them for the always happy to see pierogi on his plate James. The staff is never all that friendly in my opinion. They do their jobs well enough but it would not hurt to crack a smile or be more helpful. All in all definitely worth a stop but they could be better if they would be a bit more flexible for customers.

We picked up our cake on Friday on our way to the birthday party. After being disappointed originally at not being able to get a 1/4 sheet cake that is exactly what we received yesterday. I'm guessing that instead of a reply on Yelp worked in a positive way as the 1/4 sheet was accompanied by a personal letter stating what they did. I'm impressed and thank you for doing the right thing!

I gave them a 5 star for several reasons. I planned my wedding long distance and ordered my cake from Paris Bakery and they did an outstanding job. For starters, their website is very thorough, well organized and easy to navigate. Therefore, by the time I contacted her, I knew what I wanted. I was able to see a variety of styles and all the flavors listed for both the batter and the frosting. Many places in the area didn't have much of an extensive gallery or cake selection on line and were not as straightforward. Shannon was delightful and very easy to work with through phone and internet communication. The pricing was straightforward, and transparent. Additionally, they were flexible and patient. We had to cancel our venue at the last minute and they were willing to work with us as the time and day changed. I know the back and forth must have been frustrating, so I appreciated their willingness to work with us. Shannon also did an exceptional job with the setup and decorating. The cake looked elegant and professional and was setup and ready for the photographer and guests on time. However, the best part was the flavor. I must have had nearly every guest inquire about where I ordered the cake. The cake was heavenly, moist, light and the frosting was perfect! It tasted more like a soft sweet delicate birthday cake rather than hard, dry and overly sweet, which many wedding cakes are simply to accommodate the heavy tiers and decor. The Paris Bakery did a fabulous job with my wedding cake and I highly recommend them for any specialty cake.

The amazing aroma of freshly made paczki was quite the tease while waiting in line! I arrived at Paris Bakery early on Fat Tuesday to get paczki's for everyone at work. The line was huge, but that was a great sign of the goodness awaiting inside. They had a gentleman playing polka songs on his keyboard inside to keep smiles on everyone's faces as they waited. The staff was all hard at work from restocking, cleaning, taking orders and ringing up the register. The paczki verdict? Melt in your mouth softness, gooey and sweet! (Most likely artery clogging too...) Who cares! Fat Tuesday is THE day to be a sinful eater!
