I love Buddy's Pizza. I especially love the crispy, cheesy edges. I wish every piece had the crispy edges all the way around. I usually get the Detroiter, which has the basil sauce. Yummyyyy....the Buddy Bread is also very good and they have nice salads. Bonus: if you sign up for their birthday club, you get a free 4-square cheese pizza. You just pay for the toppings. Whee!!

Buddy's is one of the Detroit area's gems! They are known for their pizza, but I've yet to find something on the menu that I don't like. Their pizza has a thick, rich, buttery crust, but it's different than Chicago and New York style pizza entirely. The toppings are fresh and plentiful. This isn't your thin crust cardboard-box style pizza, so plan for only 1 or 2 pieces per person when ordering. The Buddy's Bread is also delicious, baked fresh and smothered with garlic butter and Parmesan. The chicken tenders are great, and do not appear to be a premade, freezer-to-deep-fryer creation like at most restaurants. And do not miss out on the Antipasto salad. Crisp romaine and iceberg lettuces, ham, salami, cheese, tomatoes, and vinaigrette--it seems simple enough, but Buddy's chooses the right ingredients for the perfect balance. Buddy's is great for a casual place to dine in, and convenient carryout is also available.

Oh Buddy's, how I love thee! So much variety! Personally I love my pizza on their multi-grain crust, and I ask for my salads to be sans iceberg, all wild greens please! Everything is so fresh, a great change from a lot of places. They have creatively themed pizzas named after the Detroit Zoo, Mackinac Bridge and other Michigan landmarks. They also have a nicely stocked bar with complimentary snacks (pretzels, popcorn, goldfish etc). The staff at this location is great! I have never received anything below excellent service. If you live in the Metro Detroit area you should be familiar with Buddy's. There are a couple of locations - we usually frequent this one in Livonia or the one in Dearborn. This one has more of a family atmosphere and not quite as many Tv's I believe. There is usually a wait on weekend evenings. The menu also has sandwiches and pasta but when we come it's for two things: an antipasto salad and an 8 piece square pizza (which gives us leftovers for dinner the next night). The pepperoni is placed under the cheese, which isn't my absolute favorite because who doesn't like those little charred pieces of the edge of the pepperoni? The Italian sausage is very good. And if you want something different the chicken fajita pizza served with a side of sour cream is a fun option. Tip: Check their website or the Entertainment book for coupons. Also, if you visit the Henry Ford Museum (and if you're living in Detroit you really should) the back of the ticket has a $4 off coupon and the Dearborn location is just down the street. Buddy's is the cream of the crop as far as Detroit Pizza Joints. Now living in St. Pete, Florida, I struggle to find pizza that can rock my socks off the way Buddy's does. Whenever I get pizza with a fellow Michigander down here, we reminisce about Buddy's the whole time. We always get a huge deep dish and family size antipasto salad. Its the bomb. Then a beer or soda depending on your preference. It can get pretty crowded sometimes, and then of course service will not be uber speedy, but the last few times I have been back to the Detroit area to visit (and of course get me some Buddy's), I have not had any problems. The staff has been friendly and knowledgeable. Uhg, I miss Buddy's!!!

what's up with buddy's lately. pizza was off for many months; now the last two visits the help is way off. last month the girl gave us the wrong bill, then the right one but without the discount. this month the girl writes down the wrong pizza, takes the wrong months coupon, forgets to take the menus, doesn't take the coupon off the bill. need i go on! there seems to be a high turnover rate of waitress' lately. maybe they need a new manager to straighten this whole situation out. it has made me drop a star because of all the hassle. the redeeming factor is that the pizza has been especially good the last couple of visits.

Such. Good. Pizza. Loved the concept of the Great Lakes pizzas, and was hoping I could try different ones, but one half of our group stuck with the traditional met lovers. So my friend and I just split the Lake Huron, basically a spinach and artichoke pizza on multigrain crust. So, so good. You still have yummy pizza without the feeling of heavy cheese and sauces. We were also there for our friend's birthday, and the waitress said she'd bring out a sundae, but we never got around to getting it. We were eating before going to see a show at Joey's Comedy Club, and she never came around again. Bummer. Sign up for their emails and get $5 off. The waitress also gave us other coupons. I found it kind of funny they were all for the exact same thing, which was like a small with one topping.

Nowadays, it's hard to please this former Detroiter-turned Chicagoan with pizza of any other type than deep dish... However, Buddy's Pizza has actually satisfied me with its depth of flavor in their more healthier options and does not leave me missing my usual guilty pleasure of a thick crust. For instance, order one of the latest menu items, the Great Lakes pizza varieties, and you can't go wrong. The combo of fresh veggies and (optional) multi-grain thin crust helped create a lighter twist on the classic party food. I LOVED the Lake Huron with its roasted artichoke and spinach. Plus, partial proceeds of these specific pizzas go towards conserving the lakes. On the other hand, some in my group had to order one of the more common choices for our second pizza - a meat deluxe, which did not nearly impress me as much. This one felt like it did not have enough sauce or seasoning. The antipasto salad tasted like the usual to me, and we were going to have a sundae for dessert but ran out of time because we were headed to a show and the server got bombarded by an even bigger party next to ours...We did have much better/consistent service when it wasn't so busy earlier in the night. All in all, this is a place I would love to revisit whenever I'm back in my hometown area!

This is my favorite deep dish square pizza. Hands down. Every chained pizza joint likes to do their own spin on the Detroit square deep dish classic without much success (In my opinion anyways...Jets looks like an ugly step child next to Buddy's). Everything is fresh, made to order, has the perfect amount of topping ratio, and is DELICIOUS. The pizza takes a bit of time (especially on a weekend) but it's worth the wait. Order one of their many appetizers (the antipasto salad is the awesome), get yourself a pitcher of beer, and bask in the awesomeness that is Buddy's.

Every time we go to Buddy's I wonder why we don't got more often (OK, I know the reason - I nix it when Ken puts it on the list... so it's my own darn fault). Expect to wait on weekend evenings. Heck, you may wait during the week too. The place is huge, with a parking lot the size you'd expect to find attached to a church, but you still may wait. We usually get the 8pc Sicilian (because we always have a $4 coupon for the 8pc). I don't always love deep dish pizza, but Buddy's is one of the few exceptions (Rogala's is another) - it's the crispy edges, plus perfect ratio of toppings to sauce to crust, that gets me going. This last time we also split the Individual-sized Antipasto salad (the only sure fire way I can make Ken eat salad is to put ham, salami and cheese on top) - note: individual size is plenty big enough for two to split if you're ordering any size pizza. Food at this location is consistently great. The restaurant is loud when full. There are TVs mounted in most corners, always on sports. Waitstaff is very pleasant and available.

Very good pies. Good minestrone as well. Other entree's...well I had the manicotti once. An expired Banquet TV dinner would have been far superior but the pizza is terrific. The staff is friendly too. Nice beer selection. The Livonia location has very difficult access for someone in a wheelchair. There is a long inclined ramp up into the place and everyone who is picking up carry-out's parks their car's smack dab in your way. I wrote to them about the carry out parking. They quickly responded apologetically, included some free coupons as well, but nothing has changed insofar as the parking in front of the access ramp. Oh well. They need to fix the door situation. Did I mention they have really good pizza? Yum!

The pizza crust is golden and crispy but not soaked in oil. Service was great. Everything else is standard quality Buddy's.

I just took my first trip to Detroit and was taken to Buddy's by some locals. I'm from Boston, we eat thin brick oven pizza, and don't have a whole lot to choose from in the deep dish variety. If you can find deep dish in Boston, it usually isn't very good. Enter Buddy's.. I fell in love. I got a simple pepperoni. It was crispy, the right amount of dough, to cheese, to sauce. Just perfect! The best part was, my dining companions left a few slices and I stole them to bring back to the hotel for breakfast. (I love left over pizza for breakfast!) The bad part was I left them in the hotel mini-fridge and forgot to take it on my way to the airport. The website says that they ship pizza across the US... maybe I will take them up on that.

i really don't understand people who rant and rave about how amazing buddy's pizza is! it's honestly not that great. i've been to this location only once but i've attended many other buddy's locations. don't get me wrong, the service here is great and all of the staff are friendly. however, buddy's pizza just has their own unique taste to their pizza and it's not necessarily a good one. i love deep dish square pizza and i've had better at local pizzerias than buddy's. the pizza is not gross, but it's just average. you could get better by just ordering from your local pizza place!

Since I live in Livonia, it's quite easy for me to satisfy my Buddy's fix. Unfortunately, however, the Livonia Buddy's is hit and miss. For example ... I grew up near the original Buddy's in Detroit. THAT pizza was perfect every time. Perfectly cooked, perfect amount of cheese, toppings, etc. Delish. For a while, to even get close to that perfect pizza at the Livonia location we ordered our pizzas "cooked well-done and with extra sauce." Livonia's pizzas are typicall undercooked, too doughy, and missing that signature crusty outer edge. Our pizza this past Friday was horrible. Waaaaaaaaay too much sauce that tasted like yesterday's marinara. Luckily, I work downtown, so I may have to order before I leave the office and pick up a pie from the Original store.

Buddy's rocks! They have soy cheese pizza! I'm lactose intolerant, so it's great that I can finally FINALLY order a pizza that the toppings don't fall off of! My sister and I went there and had a large veggie covered soy cheese pizza on multi-grain crust. It was great! I do prefer their regular crust to the multi-grain, but it was still amazing. I am so relieved that I can have pizza with "cheese" on it! Buddy's also offers a gluten-free crust.

Buddy's Pizza is the greatest pizza place of all time. I've eaten at all the classic Chicago pizza places, every other pizza place I've ever encountered, and order pizza at any restaurant that sells it. This is the best, and I've outlined the formula for a successful and delicious dinner. Normally, I review the atmosphere, service, pricing, portions, and all of that junk - these things are irrelevant at Buddy's (though we've gone there for many times for family gatherings - they are great for events, kids, and family's). The food is really all that matters. So here are the highlights: APPS: The antipasto is covered in a marginally excessive amount of dressing, and an obscene amount of ham, salami, and cubes of cheese. It's the very best I've ever had. You could probably ask for light dressing and still get it in full glory. PIZZA: The square pepperoni pizza will never, ever disappoint you. If it's your first time there, just take the advice and get pepperoni, I've had other toppings and been happy, but this is perfection. What actually makes this pizza different? A few things: crust and cheese. Crust - coated in enough butter to get beautifully browned and crispy. Buddy's converted me from a crust-trimmer to someone who will fight you for the corner piece. Nearest thing I've had to the crust is from Jet's pizza, but this is the next glorious step up. Cheese - the cheese is thick and delicious. It carries notes reminiscent of Saganaki (flaming cheese from your favorite greek restaurant) that set it completely apart from any other pizza I've had. Just order it and don't mess it up with anything other than pepperoni. DESSERT: Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puff is the perfect way to finish your dinner if you aren't sufficiently stuffed. If you haven't had anything from Sanders, this is a great place to try the carmel-hot-fudge-combo sauce and a great cream puff or sundae. Admittedly, the Livonia location is not my favorite - service is good, pizza is usually good but they aren't always as consistent in cooking the pizza to just the right temp. Dearborn and Warren are the very best, but you will still be happy no matter where you go!

Buddy's is a Detroit original that cannot be beat! When my husband and I were looking for a place to have lunch after our baby's baptism, there were a few places we considered- Mongolian BBQ and OIive Garden were just a few in consideration. Then we talked more about places that could accomodate a group as large as 30 but as small as 5 and not be an issue, and we wanted somewhere that had a great menu, with a lot of choices for everyone. We decided on Buddy's and one of the things that we liked the best was that they have a Gluten-Free items, as well as soy cheese for those who cannot eat dairy. Pretty awesome for a pizza joint! I think we also liked that you can order pizza and just let everyone dig in, or you can order individual salads, sandwiches, and dinners. To each his own! The sauce that they use is one-of-a-kind and has a sweetness to it that I can't quite describe with words. The chesse they use is delicious and gooey when you pull that first slice of heaven. My husband always orders the pizza with me (if it's just us we get the 4 slice delux) and gets mac-n-cheese as well... it's so good! When I'm there with a larger group, I like to order the Antipasto salad and Buddy Bread... it's just the right amount of food for a group to devour!! The best thing about Buddy's is that if you order too much food, you can take it home! There's nothing better than a cold slice of Buddy's in the morning!!

I finally took the husband to Buddy's. I am not a huge pizza fan myself except for when we go to Chicago so I had not been to Buddy's in over ten years. He loves the stuff but usually eats at his Toledo faves at least once a week at work so he is not as anxious to try the pizzas up here. This weekend though he decided it was time to give it a go. The place is nice inside. He loved the big screens showing Red Wing hockey, a good game to boot. Our waitress was slack jawed we were not familiar with Buddy's but seeing his Cubs shirt kinda got why not. She was very enthusiastic and sweet and we always appreciate that. We ended up going with the breadsticks and an eight square of the meaty pizza. I thought the breadsticks were a bit undercooked for my taste, super doughy but my husband likes that. The tomato sauce she brought with them was meh but then she decided to bring us out very good ranch dressing to try which was much happier. The pizza itself was great. Crispy edges, buttery but not really greasy. James wishes we would have gotten extra cheese but frankly I thought there was plenty. Good amount of tasty sauce in that it did not dominate but nicely coated between the dough and cheese. Pepperoni was properly buried under cheese, the rest of the meat was nicely crisped. I thought the pizza was a trifle overpriced for the size we got but I am not a pizza regular so I have no real clue about the going rate. Overall very nice though and worth a return.

I am very lucky to live near Buddy's, it is my go-to place for pizza (unless I need delivery). I have had their pizza and their lasagna several times and they have always been well cooked and full of flavor. The prices match the quality of the food, but they always have some sort of coupon out. You can print coupons online to bring in. Their soups are homemade. I have tried the Tortilla and the Chicken Noodle and both have been quite good. Sadly, no delivery, and their parking lot is often packed. They do have a separate entrance for pick-up, so that helps make a pick-up run quick.

I can't decide if the square pizza is a plus or a minus. It has the inherent problem of corners. The corners are sauce and toppings free...which with any other pizza would be a big issue. But I have to agree with GQ magazine that the crust is so good that having a part of the pizza without sauce and toppings is not a big issue. The crust is that good! I usually get my pizza at Pizza Papalis when I am in Detroit...but I think Buddy's is better.

The best of the best! I left southeast Michigan long ago and in my experience there is no pizza like home, and no pizza like Buddys. Growing up around great pizza places like Buddys, Shields, Pizza Cutter and others, I never realized what I'd had, until I moved. People wake up! For all the time I've spent in NY and Chicago, TX and CA, GA and FL, CT and MA, etc. places where they have their own style or they claim its authentically 'someplace' (Italy, Chicago, wherever) - it simply does not compare. Sure my upbringing makes me a little biased but I can tell you when it comes to pizza change is only good when its temporary. So branching out and having pizza from any of these other styles is OK for a short time, but the best pizza truly comes from Michigan and Buddys is #1 on that list. And it's not just their pizza, you also have to get the exceptional antipasto for the full Buddys experience. Five stars is reserved for perfection and I would not offer it lightly, this is the real deal. As a business associate from out of state who I once introduced to Buddys while in town said, "Wow, I'm having a difficult time describing just how good this is."

My wife and I just had our first "Buddys experience" last Friday night, and I have no choice but to join in the chorus of high praise!! Buddys Pizza deserves all the accolades it has received! We went in an about 8pm and the place was jumpin' but not even the 25min wait dampened our visit! We had a fantastic server (Margarette) who was super fast and very helpful with her recommendations. For starters we had fried Ravioli (which is a lot lighter than it sounds) and a Greek salad with an amazing homemade dressing. An awesome beginning, but the best was yet to come.....THE PIZZA!! We got half Sicilian and half Margaretta and (I know its a big call) but hands down the best Pizza I have tasted in the USA!! The fresh ingredients and the saucey take Buddys Pizza to a whole new level for pizza! No doubt this is our new pizza hang out! :)

i would say 4.5 cuz i didn't really get a chance to become emotionally attached to this place while i was there. it was 3 adults and 3 kids. a 1, 3, and 5 yr old and us. so we were evenly matched. but they were still jumping, crawling, standing, walking, mumbling...doing all the things to distract 3 caretakers from lunch. staff was really nice. they all loved the little girls. decor is cool. it's pretty new, but they got a bunch of stuff to show they have been around a while. they got history. that always helps for fantastic food joints. we got three 4-square pizzas: cheese, pepperoni, and 1 with jalepeno, pep, green peppers, onions, and black olives. the dough is very soft, mushy, and chewy. just right. i bet after a few beers and a couple rounds of shots it would be almost magical. i did notice a small bar. a couple of cokes, a couple of juice boxes, a buddy bread (salty, warm, soft, garlicky, addictive), and an anti-pasta. the a-p was pretty darn good too. overall, the price was right too! 3 adults and 3 quarter-humanoids and it came to $47 with tax. i think i might have to come here every time i make a trip out here. Buddy, i want to get to know you better!

Yeaaahhhh Buddy's! I usually hit the Dearborn location but Livonia was on our way home from a cider mill jaunt so my friend and I popped in for a bite to fill up on some salty post doughnut and cider sugar binge. SUCH a good call. We had a super sweet coupon for half-off a 4 square so we ordered up the light pizza since we're both attempting to eat a bit healthier. A mix of full fat and fat free cheese cuts down on the calories without losing the flavor. It came topped with spinach and mushrooms (sans tomatoes for my tomato loathing friend) and it was quite tasty. The crust is the same delicious Buddy's crust so I honestly would have never known that it was a reduced cal pizza if I wasn't told. But they do have a multi-grain crust should you desire and they even offer a gluten free menu for all gluten-sensitive folks out there. Love that they offer both. It can be hard and somewhat alienating to go out to eat if you've got dietary restrictions so I'm glad Buddy's is mindful and accommodating of that. Oh, and if you're not feeling like pizza they've got some pasta and sandwiches on the menu as well. Can't speak to those, though, since I'm always zeroing in on the 'za! So! We split the pizza and a tossed salad and we had a most excellent and filling meal. The perfect antidote to the cider sugar-binge shakes. The wait can be a bit of a bear but they do have a bar seating if you want to get a drink while you wait. If you're starving they offer some goldfish crackers to tied you over. And outdoor patio seating if it's warm out decreases the wait time. Lots of TVs around should you want to catch the game (isn't there always a game on?). I made note of this because we had a friend cancel on us because he wanted to watch the Red Wings' game. Little did he know he could have watched the game AND eaten some kick ass pizza with two righteous ladies if he had come on out.

Buddy's is a classic with a lot of metro Detroiters, including my husband's family. This is a popular gathering point for birthdays and other celebrations. We always get the antipasto salad (that they're willing to prepare without ham for me) and a couple pizzas, along with beers and sodas. As busy as the parking lot frequently looks, I don't think we've ever had to wait more than a couple minutes for a table. Some nights there are special events, like wandering clowns making balloon animals. One time when we were there, some clowns were meeting that weren't even in costume, and they still brought my daughter a balloon animal. I've used their carryout on the way home from work before too. It's not quite as friendly as inside the restaurant, but it gets the job done.

We're from DC, lived in NYC and we've had a lot of pizza in a lot of places worldwide, and Buddy's is one of the best. Great flavor, great crust, great cheese that bubbles up on the edges of the pie. Both the original sauce and tomato basil sauce are great. Only problem is overeating it! If you're in the area, DEFINITELY eat at Buddy's.

Been going to/picking up from this place for at least 25 years. Love the pizza and the salads. The Ice Cream Drinks are great. However, lately, we have noticed that they are starting to skimp on the salads. The antipasto salad used to be bigger, and they made it smaller a couple years ago. Now they seem to be limiting the cheese and meat that the put on top, and the tomatoes seem to be getting more scarce. Considering the price, they really shouldn't need to skimp. $27 for a pizza and salad at carry out is plenty of money for them to provide what they used to provide. We will still go, but maybe a little less often.

As a Gluten intolerant person, one of the many things I have come to miss eating is pizza. When I heard that this place in Livonia had an entire menu dedicated to gluten free pizza, I had to check it out. I've been to Buddy's twice now, and it seems that regardless of the time I go it is always PACKED with people. People eating, people waiting, people at the bar. - you can barely walk in the door. I recommend waiting at the bar if possible, so you don't get trampled near the doorway. Plus you can pay for your drink there and bring it over to your table later. They make their cherry coke's with grenadine for an added delicious factor. I must say the gluten free pizza is DIVINE. You would never be able to tell it was gluten free! Often times gluten free crust just crumbles in your hand - or it has a weird texture - but they definitely know how to do it right at Buddy's. Plus you can choose from different styles of pizza, so you aren't just stuck with the basics. The sides are decent but nothing extraordinary. The overwhelming atmosphere is a bit much, but I can brave the masses every once in awhile to get some delicious pizza. I definitely recommend it for the gluten-intolerant.

I just had the new multi-grain crust and I think I may never get the regular crust again. This was good! It was a bit thinner than the white and it had a good crunch and flavor to it. I was expecting it to be a really strong grain flavor like Amichi's wheat crust or something but it wasn't overpowering or overly "healthy" at all. In fact I don't know if it has any more/or less heath benefits than the white - all I know is it's good and I'll be having it again. Oh yeah they have excellent Ranch too! :)

Last Friday, when every other place was packed to the gills (Playoffs!) we found ourselves headed to Buddy's. Luckily we were able to get a seat and prompt service. We tried the Detroiter pizza - it was fantastic. Nothing too elaborate...it had a basil tomato sauce with pepperoni and brick cheese, then topped with parmesan and baked. Simple but oh-so-good. I'd highly recommend it. It's nice to have a place where you can rely on getting a seat and consistent food. Yay for Buddy's.

Fuck Yeah! I had never been here before but took my ol' lady on a trip for some pizza. It was packed when we got there but after a short 10 minute wait the two of us got a nice quiet booth in the corner. I had a decent size Blue Moon, on draft, and we ordered some cheese & bacon fries to start. For the love of God, YES! They were amazing. I don't eat fries that often but these were amazing. Hot, salty and crunchy. With cheese and bacon to top it off. How can you not like that? Our waitress was nice enough and didn't bother us. She seemed pretty busy. I ordered my favorite pizza which is pepperoni, pineapple and jalapenos. Whenever I try a new pizza place that is my 'go to'. Well. It was fucking amazing. If Buddy was a real person I would high five that bitch. I got the 4 slice pizza and it was plenty to satisfy my fat ass. Not too saucy and not too cheesy. The toppings tasted fresh and the pizza was just straight up good. I have had Lou Malnati's which is famous nationwide. I personally like this pizza much better. In fact for only the second time in my Yelp life I am giving this place five stars. Thank you Buddy's. Thank you for making bomb ass pizza without the bullshit. USA! USA! USA!

This place still has the best hawaiian pizza I've ever had. Instead of marinara, they use sweet and sour!! I can't believe no one else has copied this yet. It's a nice sit down restaurant, but also has take out. They even serve beer, which is one of my favorite combinations on earth!! I always make it a priority to stop here when I go back to visit my family. They've always been consistant in taste and quality.

Hands down, the best traditional pizza in the Detroit area. Thick, crispy, and you can actually taste ALL of the toppings! Couldn't be better. The "small" Greek salad is actually THREE platefuls! I come here once a month, by myself, and enjoy my meal immensely. The waitstaff is super friendly without being overbearing. Good for lunch, dinner, or a quick bite. Only three minutes from the heart of Livonia, and of course, there are branches all over town.

I'm waffling between three or four stars. Basically what you get in this place is pizza and Italian food that tends toward the blandly flavored and the heavily cheesed. If it's not an official option to get every menu item covered in red sauce and mozzarella, and baked, then it might as well be. The pizza is their high point. If you get the pizza with the regular sauce, it's disappointing and bland, but if you get the more spiced basil sauce that comes on the Detroiter (a pepperoni pizza, basically), it's much more interesting. If you like deep-dish pizza, the Detroiter is worth four or five stars. Their breadsticks, pizza with the bland sauce, and the rest of their Italian-themed entrees are squeaking by with three.

This location can fill up very fast on Friday and saturday nights go early if you can .....It might take a tad longer to get your pizza but it will be worth it ....Enjoy....

This edition of Excited about Eating spotlights a couple restaurants in Michigan, where we visited for a NASCAR race. We scouted out a local pizza place. Buddy's Pizza in Livonia, with their deep dish offerings, sounded right up our foodie alley. Be warned, though. Don't wait until 7 PM on a Friday night and expect to get right in. This place was jammed! Their pizzas come in squares of 4 or 8. We opted for 2x4's, a Meat Deluxe with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, and seasoned ground beef, and a Pepperoni. Both pizzas were outstanding, not greasy, and full of flavor. Dora here. I confess that I tend to be somewhat of a pizza snob. I don't like pizzas smothered in sauce or cheese, and my fave is thick and doughy. These pies were not doughy, but crispy and not too cheesy or saucy. Surprisingly awesome, and I can definitely understand why they were packed! Slice out a wedge of time, though, because the pies took forevah! I love Buddy's pizza. Whether is is pick up or dine in, the food is great and so is the service. However, on 2 separate occasions now, I have had a LONG hair in my food. I'm not one to usually get bothered by this, but with it being the second time & the fact that the hair is towards the bottom after eating - it doesn't make my experience enjoyable. I went in there today for lunch. They had a Polish theme going on for the day with people dressed in traditional garb. Strange, I know, for a pizza joint. Supposedly they had a Polish pizza on the menu. I'm not sure what it consisted of though, because I didn't order it. I wish I had asked, just out of curiosity. I ordered their Motown pizza which had cheese, old world pepperoni, and bacon. The pizza is square, deep dish style. They are very generous with the toppings and cheese. It was cooked just right, not overcooked or undercooked. This is the type of pizza you eat with a knife and fork. The crust is crisp and not soggy with grease. A four square size is more than enough for one person. I ate three pieces and took the last one home for a snack some other day. If you like deep dish pizza, this is the place for you. The service is fast and the food is good.

We were in search of a sit-down deep-dish-offering pizza joint on Saturday, and yelp led us here. There was ample parking, and even though it was busy, there are enough tables that we were seated right away. The menu has a ton of stuff on it, but they only say the pizza comes in 4sq or 8sq... I had no idea what that meant. I asked our server if they had deep dish pizza, she laughed and said "Yeah, that's our pizza", and walked away. Okay? So I'm assuming they're all deep dish, and I'll assume that 4sq is half the size of 8sq - thanks for chatting! Upon ordering a glass of wine and a beer, we were carded - that's fine, I've been over 21 for many years. I pulled out my ID and realized that I didn't have my current one! I had been carded the night before as well, so I could only assume that I'd left/lost it at the restaurant the night before. DANGIT! I told her of the mistake, but pointed out on my old voided ID that I was clearly of age, and she still refused to serve me. I get it, that's policy - but still crummy. When Joe's beer was delivered, I had a sip of his. She obviously saw and then avoided his empty glass the rest of the meal. We ordered the Sicilian pizza, and it arrived in about 20 minutes. I guess I'm just a little pickier when it comes to calling a pizza deep dish - this doesn't just mean a thick crust with a drizzle of chopped tomatoes on the top. I was very disappointed with the lack of sauce on the top of the pizza. That aside, for what this pizza was, it was delicious. There were ample toppings, tons of cheese and the flavor of the crust was great - I enjoyed every piece. I always appreciate when the parmesan and red pepper flake shakers are on the tables, and of course they were here. This place was good, LOUD and quick. I would return and sit on the patio - but I would know what kind of meal I was getting into this time.

The food here, like all Buddy's, is outstanding! The set up of the place is unique too. There's an upper level and a "lower level." I love eating outside during the nice days. Large patio with a nice covering. Many times I've had poor service here. And it's typically simple things that go missed. Example not bringing plates for salad. The bringing plates and not bringing utensils. Simple things that should be obvious but aren't done. I'll keep going here though. Love buddy's and this is the closest one.

I've never been a big fan of Buddy's pizza, but that might be more the style it is. Unless you get a specialty type pizza, it's kind of plain. I think they rely more on a combination of ingredients to flavor the pizza more than seasoning, so a pepperoni pizza is pretty bland. I personally would give the pizza 3 stars. That being said, everyone else I know raves about Buddy's. The times I've been to this location, it's been clean and the staff was friendly. It's a nice place.

So I'm at the Pizza place and I'm thinking there is no way I'll be blown away. Well surprise surprise I was blown away. We came for the whole grain crust cause most places that serve pizza don't have that option. Let me tell you they should just serve all their pizzas that way. It was unbelievably delicious. I wish there was one of these in my hometown. To top it all off they donate a portion of their profits I thin $10,000 every six months to animal rescues, and they form their bread into dog biscuits every night and donate them to the pet shelter. Awesome place to get pizza and support a business that supports the less privileged in our communities. Thanks Buddy's Pizza! I will be coming back.

Always great pizza here. Both my wife and I ordered 4 square pizza and we both enjoyed them. The crustiness of all the edges make a lot of tasty bites. My sister-in-law ordered the chicken parmesan and loved it. We all took some home for dinner later. Mary R. was a great server and got everything just right I've been eating Buddy's pizza since I was young. Although it was an east side hang out, as a west sider I would sneak into Hamtramck and enjoy.The only problem I now have with Buddy's is that they don't offer a thin crust pizza---I know they are famous for their deep dish square pizza, but as I aged I now have to limit my carb intake and thus limit my Buddy's.

It has a similar vibe to the old school Chicago style found at Pequod's. First visit I found it to be a little too sweet for my tastes so subsequent times I've just ordered it light sauce and in heaven! Only suggestion, y'all need a 6pc pizza! In our group we all got individual 4pc ones and each guy said he wished for one more piece but that it'd ruin tomorrow's lunch :) Outside of Detroit look up Jets pizza. Not nearly as awesome but the closest you'll find to this style outside of the region.

My family and I have been going to this Buddy's location for years! We have always been completely satisfied with their food and continue to be to this day. My low review is due to the unprofessionalism that we have recently been experiencing from their staff members. Twice in a row our take out order has been made incorrectly (no meatballs when we specifically ordered them and were charged for them). As well as staff laughing and not paying attention during the placing of our takeout order over the phone. The staff members here need to be taught the importance of customer service very soon or we will no longer be giving this restaurant our business.

The completely-full parking lot was a giveaway that there would be a long wait for our table; I circled the lot several times before pulling into a space on a recent Friday evening. Waiting guests were milling around outside despite the chill in the air and the small waiting area was stacked with hungry folks. I ordered my usual, a 4-slice Detroit-style, deep-dish, thick crust pizza with pineapples, Italian sausage, tomatoes and black olives. I say "usual" despite the fact that I ordered it incorrectly, twice. Thank goodness for the patient server and my good-natured friend. Despite the full dining room, our piping hot pizzas came out fairly quickly. As always, the thick and cheesy crust was well-seasoned and flavorful. I savored the first bite as much as the last, thoroughly enjoying the sweet pineapple, spicy sausage, and briny olives. We did not linger, being mindful of all the families (and sleepy kids) still waiting to eat late in the evening. However, I am already plotting my next visit - would it be too soon to return in two weeks?

This is not going to be popular with people in metro Detroit (oh well), but I didn't like Buddy's Pizza. It did not live up to the hype..... My husband and I came on a Friday at about 5. We were seated quickly and asked about our drink order. They have some nice drink specials. My husband ordered a Labatt's and I had a pinot grigio... After perusing the menu we ended up ordering a four corner pizza. My better half had all meat and I ended up having pepperoni, sausage and green olive (my favorite). While I appreciate they allowed us to order half and half, the pizza was horrible!!! I love deep dish/thick crust, but this was horribly dry. In regards to the minimal amount of sauce that was on the pizza, it was so bland I had to use the dried pepper shaker just to get any spice. The restaurant was beautiful. Open. Airy. A lot of TVs and seating. The menu offers a lot of pizza options as well as salads, pasta, and burgers. The service was ok at best. She tried to rush us through our meal. We must have had a bad pizza because the place was PACKED when we left. Obviously there is something good about this place. Sadly we didnt' experience it.

Mmmmmm mmmmmmmm... Yes, it's that good. I love the pizza and may have been eating it since in utero. Seriously. My family has been loyal to Buddy's since the original at 6 Mile and Conant. I used to live around the corner from this location, which was not always a good thing. The service is always great here, whether dining in or take out. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They definitely are worth the extra tip. Oh and the antipasto salad is unlike any other, Shield's doesn't even compare. It's the brick cheese. Amazing. I wish I could find brick cheese locally; I've only found it in Wisconsin. I drive 45 minutes to get pizza and salad from here on occasion. Well, if in the area. It's not like I would drive 45 minutes for a pizza and mow on a square on the way home. No, I've never done that (last night). Like I said, just eat here. You won't regret it.

I moved near Detroit over a year ago and keep hearing how Buddys is Detroit's #1 pizza and its the pizza of Detroit. Personally, I'm more into thin pizza and prefer NY pizza rather than Chicago pizza. But I like Jet's pizza and thought Buddy's might be like Jet's but better. I'm glad I know now, cause I'll never wanna eat at Buddy's again. They put all the toppings underneath the cheese (which I always thought that was ridiculous to do) but not just that, they put the toppings on the bottom, cheese in the middle and the sauce on the top! WHAAAAT??? YUCK!!! I ended up having to wipe the sauce off cause it hurts my teeth and the worst part was the dough is just way too much. I tasted more dough than anything else and that's why I'm not a big fan of square pizza, yet I do make exceptions for Jet's pizza. And how could they call themselves Detroit's pizza, when they don't do flavored crusts of any sorts? About 98% of pizza places (chain and not) do flavored crusts. But flavored crusts is a Michigan thing, since pretty much every pizza place in Michigan does flavored crusts, any other state I'd say only 70% do that. But how could Detroit's pizza not have flavored crusts? To me, that's hit or miss with pizza because it's the best part, in my opinion. But aside from that, everything about this place was horrible. I could barely eat one slice of their chewy, doughy, bland pizza.

I've been a fan of this place since I was 16 and had a job here one summer as a hostess. Buddy bread is so good and they have perfect ranch dressing for dipping. The antipasto salad is great. The pizza is always cooked perfectly. My favorite is the BLT pizza (also great dipped in the ranch!) which isn't on the menu anymore, but you can still order it. They have a fried veggie (cauliflower, mushrooms, & zucchini) appetizer that is really good too. They also have an option to get your pizza half baked when you do carry out, so you can finish making at home to ensure a hot/fresh take out pizza. The Livonia location was very nicely decorated for Christmas. It was very warm and cozy. It took a good 30 minutes for our food to come out. Service was slow. I ordered the Ontario pizza. I am a HUGE fan of they call this "Detroit style" pizza. If only it were in Chicago! All we have that is comparable is Jet's...decent, but holy crap, if you're driving by the area on the way to Canada or something, you have to stop by. If you're a cheese lover, you will adore the crust/edges of this pizza. Awesome crunch with the cheese perfectly toasted - not burnt at all! My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. Now as a tip, by the time I got to the second slice, the center part of the pizza was getting slightly on the soggy side, not as crispy. If you're lucky enough to live close by and you order to go, I would recommend getting the whole pizza out and placing it on a cooling rack of some sort to make sure the bottom of the whole pizza gets to breathe so that it doesn't get soggy right away. We also ordered the veggie sampler appetizer - didn't care too much for the zucchini, but the fried mushrooms and cauliflower were delicious. Between myself and my husband, we got a small (4 piece/square) pizza and the appetizer. It was definitely more than enough to fill us up. If only this place were closer to me!!

My 521st visit to a Buddy's and still I tried something new. Really! Okay everybody knows about the pizza and salads. I have been here so many times I tend to get what I usually order. Not this time. Original Buddy Burger- Half pound of goodness! Fresh ground chuck with steak trimmings, chargrilled and served on a grilled bakery bun with lettuce, tomato and dill chips. This is one of the few places I had until this time never tried their burger. It's a cross between a good tasting pub burger and and a real good gourmet burger. The usual friendly staff at this location that I have come to love. Nice lunch stop when I'm in the area. Oh, they also have a Baby Buddy pizza if you're just in the mood for a two slice pizza.

This is my my second favorite favorite pizza, and since I was in the neighborhood I stopped in to get a fix. Being one who suffers greatly from tomato induced acid heartburn, I appreciate that the sauce is on top so I can scrape it off and dip in to it to control the amount eaten. I asked for the pepperoni on top, but it wasn't, but I let it go since it didn't take away from the amazing crust , cheese blend, and overall flavor. There is no "hype" just a really good recipe in dough, sauce, and cheese that deserves to be and for the most part is noticed.

I enjoy Buddy's Pizza, but I must agree with some of the other comments posted regarding the Livonia location. We ordered a carry out meal consisting of an 8 pieces Super and two 4 piece, one with pepperoni, and the other a Margherita. Throw in a large antipasto salad and now we're talking a $55 tab. OK, it's Buddy's.... However the pizza lacked the crispy crust I have enjoyed at other Buddy's locations. The crust was soft and almost gooey. Also, the toppings were very light. Just had a conversation with someone about the lack of good pizza in Michigan. Shocked, I told them that they needed to try buddys. I told them that it was the best pizza in the Detroit area...I then paused....retracting my statement, I said that it was the best pizza I have ever had, period. The pizza sauce and pepperoni really make the pizza for me. There antipasta salad is solid as well. If you want the best pizza ever, go here ASAP!

Buddys Pizza is unique. I thought they forgot the pepperoni because they put the cheese over the pepperoni and you can't see it. The crust is thicker than most other pizzas and the sauce is absolutely wonderful. Its a mild seasoned tomatoey sauce that is never juicy. The cheese is baked and the slices are square. Their salads are huge and their hot peppers are edible without pain. The service is always friendly and efficient. We usually wait about 20 minutes for our food. The wait is worth it. I don't think it's the absolute best pizza around here, but it is definitely one of the best pizzas anywhere.

Went back today for another Robby Burger with Cheddar & bacon, with a side of potato wedges & a big crisp dill pickle. YUM!!! What drove me to go there versus somewhere else though was the chicken tortilla soup. If you haven't tried it, do so now!!! It is EXCELLENT, and I'm not even a fan of that type of soup normally. I could eat gallons of it!

Our New Years Eve's used to consist of boozing and midnight smooches... until our daughter was born in 2007. Every year since then we have visited Buddy's for dinner on New Years eve, and even added onto our brood to make it a party of 4! I think we chose Buddy's because typically we have some kind of "weight-loss" inspired resolution and deep dish pizza is clearly not in the plan for the year ahead (or next month until we give up). I have been eating at Buddy's for ages. In fact, I think it is Buddy's where I first tried vegetables on my pizza - and to this day, their classic veggie pizza is what I typically order. I have also had some experience with their Florine Marks pizza - also very satisfying if you happen to be watching your waistline but really can't escape the craving for some cheesy, greasy goodness. If you are more of a meat lover, heads up, they put the pepperonis UNDER the cheese... serious flavor infusion!! Be not afraid of ordering something rather than pizza. Burgers, soup, and salads (we love the antipasto) are also all delicious. If you are into saving money, check their website and print the coupons out before you go to save a few bucks. Even though I pass out on the couch when I get home and don't make it til midnight after our annual NYE meal here... I wouldn't change it for the world!

My family and I have been going to this Buddy's location for years! We have always been completely satisfied with their food and continue to be to this day. My low review is due to the unprofessionalism that we have recently been experiencing from their staff members. Twice in a row our take out order has been made incorrectly (no meatballs when we specifically ordered them and were charged for them). As well as staff laughing and not paying attention during the placing of our takeout order over the phone. The staff members here need to be taught the importance of customer service very soon or we will no longer be giving this restaurant our business.

I enjoy Buddy's Pizza, but I must agree with some of the other comments posted regarding the Livonia location. We ordered a carry out meal consisting of an 8 pieces Super and two 4 piece, one with pepperoni, and the other a Margherita. Throw in a large antipasto salad and now we're talking a $55 tab. OK, it's Buddy's.... However the pizza lacked the crispy crust I have enjoyed at other Buddy's locations. The crust was soft and almost gooey. Also, the toppings were very light. Very dissapointing as I had guests that had not experienced Buddy's. Did not match my expectations and actually was an average pizza at best.

This edition of Excited about Eating spotlights a couple restaurants in Michigan, where we visited for a NASCAR race. We scouted out a local pizza place. Buddy's Pizza in Livonia, with their deep dish offerings, sounded right up our foodie alley. Be warned, though. Don't wait until 7 PM on a Friday night and expect to get right in. This place was jammed! Their pizzas come in squares of 4 or 8. We opted for 2x4's, a Meat Deluxe with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, and seasoned ground beef, and a Pepperoni. Both pizzas were outstanding, not greasy, and full of flavor. Dora here. I confess that I tend to be somewhat of a pizza snob. I don't like pizzas smothered in sauce or cheese, and my fave is thick and doughy. These pies were not doughy, but crispy and not too cheesy or saucy. Surprisingly awesome, and I can definitely understand why they were packed! Slice out a wedge of time, though, because the pies took forevah! I love Buddy's pizza. Whether is is pick up or dine in, the food is great and so is the service. However, on 2 separate occasions now, I have had a LONG hair in my food. I'm not one to usually get bothered by this, but with it being the second time & the fact that the hair is towards the bottom after eating - it doesn't make my experience enjoyable. Again, great service and food typically, just have these problems. I have a picture of it should I need to send to the restaurant.

I went in there today for lunch. They had a Polish theme going on for the day with people dressed in traditional garb. Strange, I know, for a pizza joint. Supposedly they had a Polish pizza on the menu. I'm not sure what it consisted of though, because I didn't order it. I wish I had asked, just out of curiosity. I ordered their Motown pizza which had cheese, old world pepperoni, and bacon. The pizza is square, deep dish style. They are very generous with the toppings and cheese. It was cooked just right, not overcooked or undercooked. This is the type of pizza you eat with a knife and fork. The crust is crisp and not soggy with grease. A four square size is more than enough for one person. I ate three pieces and took the last one home for a snack some other day. If you like deep dish pizza, this is the place for you. The service is fast and the food is good.

We were in search of a sit-down deep-dish-offering pizza joint on Saturday, and yelp led us here. There was ample parking, and even though it was busy, there are enough tables that we were seated right away. The menu has a ton of stuff on it, but they only say the pizza comes in 4sq or 8sq... I had no idea what that meant. I asked our server if they had deep dish pizza, she laughed and said "Yeah, that's our pizza", and walked away. Okay? So I'm assuming they're all deep dish, and I'll assume that 4sq is half the size of 8sq - thanks for chatting! Upon ordering a glass of wine and a beer, we were carded - that's fine, I've been over 21 for many years. I pulled out my ID and realized that I didn't have my current one! I had been carded the night before as well, so I could only assume that I'd left/lost it at the restaurant the night before. DANGIT! I told her of the mistake, but pointed out on my old voided ID that I was clearly of age, and she still refused to serve me. I get it, that's policy - but still crummy. When Joe's beer was delivered, I had a sip of his. She obviously saw and then avoided his empty glass the rest of the meal. We ordered the Sicilian pizza, and it arrived in about 20 minutes. I guess I'm just a little pickier when it comes to calling a pizza deep dish - this doesn't just mean a thick crust with a drizzle of chopped tomatoes on the top. I was very disappointed with the lack of sauce on the top of the pizza. That aside, for what this pizza was, it was delicious. There were ample toppings, tons of cheese and the flavor of the crust was great - I enjoyed every piece. I always appreciate when the parmesan and red pepper flake shakers are on the tables, and of course they were here. This place was good, LOUD and quick. I would return and sit on the patio - but I would know what kind of meal I was getting into this time.

The food here, like all Buddy's, is outstanding! The set up of the place is unique too. There's an upper level and a "lower level." I love eating outside during the nice days. Large patio with a nice covering. Many times I've had poor service here. And it's typically simple things that go missed. Example not bringing plates for salad. The bringing plates and not bringing utensils. Simple things that should be obvious but aren't done. I'll keep going here though. Love buddy's and this is the closest one.

I've never been a big fan of Buddy's pizza, but that might be more the style it is. Unless you get a specialty type pizza, it's kind of plain. I think they rely more on a combination of ingredients to flavor the pizza more than seasoning, so a pepperoni pizza is pretty bland. I personally would give the pizza 3 stars. That being said, everyone else I know raves about Buddy's. The times I've been to this location, it's been clean and the staff was friendly. It's a nice place.

So I'm at the Pizza place and I'm thinking there is no way I'll be blown away. Well surprise surprise I was blown away. We came for the whole grain crust cause most places that serve pizza don't have that option. Let me tell you they should just serve all their pizzas that way. It was unbelievably delicious. I wish there was one of these in my hometown. To top it all off they donate a portion of their profits I thin $10,000 every six months to animal rescues, and they form their bread into dog biscuits every night and donate them to the pet shelter. Awesome place to get pizza and support a business that supports the less privileged in our communities. Thanks Buddy's Pizza! I will be coming back.

Always great pizza here. Both my wife and I ordered 4 square pizza and we both enjoyed them. The crustiness of all the edges make a lot of tasty bites. My sister-in-law ordered the chicken parmesan and loved it. We all took some home for dinner later. Mary R. was a great server and got everything just right I've been eating Buddy's pizza since I was young. Although it was an east side hang out, as a west sider I would sneak into Hamtramck and enjoy.The only problem I now have with Buddy's is that they don't offer a thin crust pizza---I know they are famous for their deep dish square pizza, but as I aged I now have to limit my carb intake and thus limit my Buddy's.

Delicious!!! As a native Chicagoan I feel superior to all other regions in regards to pizza.... LOL! Seriously, great pizza! Big fan of the Detroit style! It has a similar vibe to the old school Chicago style found at Pequod's. First visit I found it to be a little too sweet for my tastes so subsequent times I've just ordered it light sauce and in heaven! Only suggestion, y'all need a 6pc pizza! In our group we all got individual 4pc ones and each guy said he wished for one more piece but that it'd ruin tomorrow's lunch :) Outside of Detroit look up Jets pizza. Not nearly as awesome but the closest you'll find to this style outside of the region.

The completely-full parking lot was a giveaway that there would be a long wait for our table; I circled the lot several times before pulling into a space on a recent Friday evening. Waiting guests were milling around outside despite the chill in the air and the small waiting area was stacked with hungry folks. I ordered my usual, a 4-slice Detroit-style, deep-dish, thick crust pizza with pineapples, Italian sausage, tomatoes and black olives. I say "usual" despite the fact that I ordered it incorrectly, twice. Thank goodness for the patient server and my good-natured friend. Despite the full dining room, our piping hot pizzas came out fairly quickly. As always, the thick and cheesy crust was well-seasoned and flavorful. I savored the first bite as much as the last, thoroughly enjoying the sweet pineapple, spicy sausage, and briny olives. We did not linger, being mindful of all the families (and sleepy kids) still waiting to eat late in the evening. However, I am already plotting my next visit - would it be too soon to return in two weeks?

This is not going to be popular with people in metro Detroit (oh well), but I didn't like Buddy's Pizza. It did not live up to the hype..... My husband and I came on a Friday at about 5. We were seated quickly and asked about our drink order. They have some nice drink specials. My husband ordered a Labatt's and I had a pinot grigio... After perusing the menu we ended up ordering a four corner pizza. My better half had all meat and I ended up having pepperoni, sausage and green olive (my favorite). While I appreciate they allowed us to order half and half, the pizza was horrible!!! I love deep dish/thick crust, but this was horribly dry. In regards to the minimal amount of sauce that was on the pizza, it was so bland I had to use the dried pepper shaker just to get any spice. The restaurant was beautiful. Open. Airy. A lot of TVs and seating. The menu offers a lot of pizza options as well as salads, pasta, and burgers. The service was ok at best. She tried to rush us through our meal. We must have had a bad pizza because the place was PACKED when we left. Obviously there is something good about this place. Sadly we didnt' experience it.

Mmmmmm mmmmmmmm... Yes, it's that good. I love the pizza and may have been eating it since in utero. Seriously. My family has been loyal to Buddy's since the original at 6 Mile and Conant. I used to live around the corner from this location, which was not always a good thing. The service is always great here, whether dining in or take out. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They definitely are worth the extra tip. Oh and the antipasto salad is unlike any other, Shield's doesn't even compare. It's the brick cheese. Amazing. I wish I could find brick cheese locally; I've only found it in Wisconsin. I drive 45 minutes to get pizza and salad from here on occasion. Well, if in the area. It's not like I would drive 45 minutes for a pizza and mow on a square on the way home. No, I've never done that (last night). Like I said, just eat here. You won't regret it.

I moved near Detroit over a year ago and keep hearing how Buddys is Detroit's #1 pizza and its the pizza of Detroit. Personally, I'm more into thin pizza and prefer NY pizza rather than Chicago pizza. But I like Jet's pizza and thought Buddy's might be like Jet's but better. I'm glad I know now, cause I'll never wanna eat at Buddy's again. They put all the toppings underneath the cheese (which I always thought that was ridiculous to do) but not just that, they put the toppings on the bottom, cheese in the middle and the sauce on the top! WHAAAAT??? YUCK!!! I ended up having to wipe the sauce off cause it hurts my teeth and the worst part was the dough is just way too much. I tasted more dough than anything else and that's why I'm not a big fan of square pizza, yet I do make exceptions for Jet's pizza. And how could they call themselves Detroit's pizza, when they don't do flavored crusts of any sorts? About 98% of pizza places (chain and not) do flavored crusts. But flavored crusts is a Michigan thing, since pretty much every pizza place in Michigan does flavored crusts, any other state I'd say only 70% do that. But how could Detroit's pizza not have flavored crusts? To me, that's hit or miss with pizza because it's the best part, in my opinion. But aside from that, everything about this place was horrible. I could barely eat one slice of their chewy, doughy, bland pizza.

I've been a fan of this place since I was 16 and had a job here one summer as a hostess. Buddy bread is so good and they have perfect ranch dressing for dipping. The antipasto salad is great. The pizza is always cooked perfectly. My favorite is the BLT pizza (also great dipped in the ranch!) which isn't on the menu anymore, but you can still order it. They have a fried veggie (cauliflower, mushrooms, & zucchini) appetizer that is really good too. They also have an option to get your pizza half baked when you do carry out, so you can finish making at home to ensure a hot/fresh take out pizza. The Livonia location was very nicely decorated for Christmas. It was very warm and cozy. It took a good 30 minutes for our food to come out. Service was slow. I ordered the Ontario pizza. It was pretty good, not sure about the sauce. My daughter ordered the little bambino pizza. She thought it was the best she has ever had.

I am a HUGE fan of they call this "Detroit style" pizza. If only it were in Chicago! All we have that is comparable is Jet's...decent, but holy crap, if you're driving by the area on the way to Canada or something, you have to stop by. If you're a cheese lover, you will adore the crust/edges of this pizza. Awesome crunch with the cheese perfectly toasted - not burnt at all! My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. Now as a tip, by the time I got to the second slice, the center part of the pizza was getting slightly on the soggy side, not as crispy. If you're lucky enough to live close by and you order to go, I would recommend getting the whole pizza out and placing it on a cooling rack of some sort to make sure the bottom of the whole pizza gets to breathe so that it doesn't get soggy right away. We also ordered the veggie sampler appetizer - didn't care too much for the zucchini, but the fried mushrooms and cauliflower were delicious. Between myself and my husband, we got a small (4 piece/square) pizza and the appetizer. It was definitely more than enough to fill us up. If only this place were closer to me!!

My 521st visit to a Buddy's and still I tried something new. Really! Okay everybody knows about the pizza and salads. I have been here so many times I tend to get what I usually order. Not this time. Original Buddy Burger- Half pound of goodness! Fresh ground chuck with steak trimmings, chargrilled and served on a grilled bakery bun with lettuce, tomato and dill chips. This is one of the few places I had until this time never tried their burger. It's a cross between a good tasting pub burger and and a real good gourmet burger. The usual friendly staff at this location that I have come to love. Nice lunch stop when I'm in the area. Oh, they also have a Baby Buddy pizza if you're just in the mood for a two slice pizza.

Okay, wow where to start. How about Buddy's is the best God damn pizza in Michigan . They have a Amazing staff who are fun, friendly and attentive. Then they bring out this hot cheesy square topped with meat and cooked to perfection. You cram it into your gullet and then leave happy. Seriously you could never leave this place in a bad mood. This is my my second favorite favorite pizza, and since I was in the neighborhood I stopped in to get a fix. Being one who suffers greatly from tomato induced acid heartburn, I appreciate that the sauce is on top so I can scrape it off and dip in to it to control the amount eaten. I asked for the pepperoni on top, but it wasn't, but I let it go since it didn't take away from the amazing crust , cheese blend, and overall flavor. There is no "hype" just a really good recipe in dough, sauce, and cheese that deserves to be and for the most part is noticed.

Buddy's is one of the Detroit area's gems! They are known for their pizza, but I've yet to find something on the menu that I don't like. Their pizza has a thick, rich, buttery crust, but it's different than Chicago and New York style pizza entirely. The toppings are fresh and plentiful. This isn't your thin crust cardboard-box style pizza, so plan for only 1 or 2 pieces per person when ordering. The Buddy's Bread is also delicious, baked fresh and smothered with garlic butter and Parmesan. The chicken tenders are great, and do not appear to be a premade, freezer-to-deep-fryer creation like at most restaurants. And do not miss out on the Antipasto salad. Crisp romaine and iceberg lettuces, ham, salami, cheese, tomatoes, and vinaigrette--it seems simple enough, but Buddy's chooses the right ingredients for the perfect balance. If you live in the Metro Detroit area you should be familiar with Buddy's. There are a couple of locations - we usually frequent this one in Livonia or the one in Dearborn. This one has more of a family atmosphere and not quite as many Tv's I believe. There is usually a wait on weekend evenings. The menu also has sandwiches and pasta but when we come it's for two things: an antipasto salad and an 8 piece square pizza (which gives us leftovers for dinner the next night). The pepperoni is placed under the cheese, which isn't my absolute favorite because who doesn't like those little charred pieces of the edge of the pepperoni? The Italian sausage is very good. And if you want something different the chicken fajita pizza served with a side of sour cream is a fun option. Tip: Check their website or the Entertainment book for coupons. Also, if you visit the Henry Ford Museum (and if you're living in Detroit you really should) the back of the ticket has a $4 off coupon and the Dearborn location is just down the street. Buddy's is the cream of the crop as far as Detroit Pizza Joints. Now living in St. Pete, Florida, I struggle to find pizza that can rock my socks off the way Buddy's does. Whenever I get pizza with a fellow Michigander down here, we reminisce about Buddy's the whole time. We always get a huge deep dish and family size antipasto salad. Its the bomb. Then a beer or soda depending on your preference. It can get pretty crowded sometimes, and then of course service will not be uber speedy, but the last few times I have been back to the Detroit area to visit (and of course get me some Buddy's), I have not had any problems. The staff has been friendly and knowledgeable. Uhg, I miss Buddy's!!!

what's up with buddy's lately. pizza was off for many months; now the last two visits the help is way off. last month the girl gave us the wrong bill, then the right one but without the discount. this month the girl writes down the wrong pizza, takes the wrong months coupon, forgets to take the menus, doesn't take the coupon off the bill. need i go on! there seems to be a high turnover rate of waitress' lately. maybe they need a new manager to straighten this whole situation out. it has made me drop a star because of all the hassle. the redeeming factor is that the pizza has been especially good the last couple of visits.

Such. Good. Pizza. Loved the concept of the Great Lakes pizzas, and was hoping I could try different ones, but one half of our group stuck with the traditional met lovers. So my friend and I just split the Lake Huron, basically a spinach and artichoke pizza on multigrain crust. So, so good. You still have yummy pizza without the feeling of heavy cheese and sauces. We were also there for our friend's birthday, and the waitress said she'd bring out a sundae, but we never got around to getting it. We were eating before going to see a show at Joey's Comedy Club, and she never came around again. Bummer. Sign up for their emails and get $5 off. The waitress also gave us other coupons. Nowadays, it's hard to please this former Detroiter-turned Chicagoan with pizza of any other type than deep dish... However, Buddy's Pizza has actually satisfied me with its depth of flavor in their more healthier options and does not leave me missing my usual guilty pleasure of a thick crust. For instance, order one of the latest menu items, the Great Lakes pizza varieties, and you can't go wrong. The combo of fresh veggies and (optional) multi-grain thin crust helped create a lighter twist on the classic party food. I LOVED the Lake Huron with its roasted artichoke and spinach. Plus, partial proceeds of these specific pizzas go towards conserving the lakes. On the other hand, some in my group had to order one of the more common choices for our second pizza - a meat deluxe, which did not nearly impress me as much. This one felt like it did not have enough sauce or seasoning. The antipasto salad tasted like the usual to me, and we were going to have a sundae for dessert but ran out of time because we were headed to a show and the server got bombarded by an even bigger party next to ours...We did have much better/consistent service when it wasn't so busy earlier in the night. All in all, this is a place I would love to revisit whenever I'm back in my hometown area!

This is my favorite deep dish square pizza. Hands down. Every chained pizza joint likes to do their own spin on the Detroit square deep dish classic without much success (In my opinion anyways...Jets looks like an ugly step child next to Buddy's). Everything is fresh, made to order, has the perfect amount of topping ratio, and is DELICIOUS. The pizza takes a bit of time (especially on a weekend) but it's worth the wait. Order one of their many appetizers (the antipasto salad is the awesome), get yourself a pitcher of beer, and bask in the awesomeness that is Buddy's.

Every time we go to Buddy's I wonder why we don't got more often (OK, I know the reason - I nix it when Ken puts it on the list... so it's my own darn fault). Expect to wait on weekend evenings. Heck, you may wait during the week too. The place is huge, with a parking lot the size you'd expect to find attached to a church, but you still may wait. We usually get the 8pc Sicilian (because we always have a $4 coupon for the 8pc). I don't always love deep dish pizza, but Buddy's is one of the few exceptions (Rogala's is another) - it's the crispy edges, plus perfect ratio of toppings to sauce to crust, that gets me going. This last time we also split the Individual-sized Antipasto salad (the only sure fire way I can make Ken eat salad is to put ham, salami and cheese on top) - note: individual size is plenty big enough for two to split if you're ordering any size pizza. Food at this location is consistently great. The restaurant is loud when full. There are TVs mounted in most corners, always on sports. Waitstaff is very pleasant and available.

Very good pies. Good minestrone as well. Other entree's...well I had the manicotti once. An expired Banquet TV dinner would have been far superior but the pizza is terrific. The staff is friendly too. Nice beer selection. The Livonia location has very difficult access for someone in a wheelchair. There is a long inclined ramp up into the place and everyone who is picking up carry-out's parks their car's smack dab in your way. I wrote to them about the carry out parking. They quickly responded apologetically, included some free coupons as well, but nothing has changed insofar as the parking in front of the access ramp. Oh well. They need to fix the door situation. Did I mention they have really good pizza? Yum!

Oh Buddy's, how I love thee! So much variety! Personally I love my pizza on their multi-grain crust, and I ask for my salads to be sans iceberg, all wild greens please! Everything is so fresh, a great change from a lot of places. They have creatively themed pizzas named after the Detroit Zoo, Mackinac Bridge and other Michigan landmarks. They also have a nicely stocked bar with complimentary snacks (pretzels, popcorn, goldfish etc). The staff at this location is great! I have never received anything below excellent service. I just took my first trip to Detroit and was taken to Buddy's by some locals. I'm from Boston, we eat thin brick oven pizza, and don't have a whole lot to choose from in the deep dish variety. If you can find deep dish in Boston, it usually isn't very good. Enter Buddy's.. I fell in love. I got a simple pepperoni. It was crispy, the right amount of dough, to cheese, to sauce. Just perfect! The best part was, my dining companions left a few slices and I stole them to bring back to the hotel for breakfast. (I love left over pizza for breakfast!) The bad part was I left them in the hotel mini-fridge and forgot to take it on my way to the airport. The website says that they ship pizza across the US... maybe I will take them up on that.

i really don't understand people who rant and rave about how amazing buddy's pizza is! it's honestly not that great. i've been to this location only once but i've attended many other buddy's locations. don't get me wrong, the service here is great and all of the staff are friendly. however, buddy's pizza just has their own unique taste to their pizza and it's not necessarily a good one. i love deep dish square pizza and i've had better at local pizzerias than buddy's. the pizza is not gross, but it's just average. you could get better by just ordering from your local pizza place!

Since I live in Livonia, it's quite easy for me to satisfy my Buddy's fix. Unfortunately, however, the Livonia Buddy's is hit and miss. For example ... I grew up near the original Buddy's in Detroit. THAT pizza was perfect every time. Perfectly cooked, perfect amount of cheese, toppings, etc. Delish. For a while, to even get close to that perfect pizza at the Livonia location we ordered our pizzas "cooked well-done and with extra sauce." Livonia's pizzas are typicall undercooked, too doughy, and missing that signature crusty outer edge. Our pizza this past Friday was horrible. Waaaaaaaaay too much sauce that tasted like yesterday's marinara. Luckily, I work downtown, so I may have to order before I leave the office and pick up a pie from the Original store.

Buddy's rocks! They have soy cheese pizza! I'm lactose intolerant, so it's great that I can finally FINALLY order a pizza that the toppings don't fall off of! My sister and I went there and had a large veggie covered soy cheese pizza on multi-grain crust. It was great! I do prefer their regular crust to the multi-grain, but it was still amazing. I am so relieved that I can have pizza with "cheese" on it! Buddy's also offers a gluten-free crust.

Buddy's Pizza is the greatest pizza place of all time. I've eaten at all the classic Chicago pizza places, every other pizza place I've ever encountered, and order pizza at any restaurant that sells it. This is the best, and I've outlined the formula for a successful and delicious dinner. Normally, I review the atmosphere, service, pricing, portions, and all of that junk - these things are irrelevant at Buddy's (though we've gone there for many times for family gatherings - they are great for events, kids, and family's). The food is really all that matters. So here are the highlights: APPS: The antipasto is covered in a marginally excessive amount of dressing, and an obscene amount of ham, salami, and cubes of cheese. It's the very best I've ever had. You could probably ask for light dressing and still get it in full glory. PIZZA: The square pepperoni pizza will never, ever disappoint you. If it's your first time there, just take the advice and get pepperoni, I've had other toppings and been happy, but this is perfection. What actually makes this pizza different? A few things: crust and cheese. Crust - coated in enough butter to get beautifully browned and crispy. Buddy's converted me from a crust-trimmer to someone who will fight you for the corner piece. Nearest thing I've had to the crust is from Jet's pizza, but this is the next glorious step up. Cheese - the cheese is thick and delicious. It carries notes reminiscent of Saganaki (flaming cheese from your favorite greek restaurant) that set it completely apart from any other pizza I've had. Just order it and don't mess it up with anything other than pepperoni. DESSERT: Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puff is the perfect way to finish your dinner if you aren't sufficiently stuffed. If you haven't had anything from Sanders, this is a great place to try the carmel-hot-fudge-combo sauce and a great cream puff or sundae. Admittedly, the Livonia location is not my favorite - service is good, pizza is usually good but they aren't always as consistent in cooking the pizza to just the right temp. Dearborn and Warren are the very best, but you will still be happy no matter where you go!

Buddy's is a Detroit original that cannot be beat! When my husband and I were looking for a place to have lunch after our baby's baptism, there were a few places we considered- Mongolian BBQ and OIive Garden were just a few in consideration. Then we talked more about places that could accomodate a group as large as 30 but as small as 5 and not be an issue, and we wanted somewhere that had a great menu, with a lot of choices for everyone. We decided on Buddy's and one of the things that we liked the best was that they have a Gluten-Free items, as well as soy cheese for those who cannot eat dairy. Pretty awesome for a pizza joint! I think we also liked that you can order pizza and just let everyone dig in, or you can order individual salads, sandwiches, and dinners. To each his own! The sauce that they use is one-of-a-kind and has a sweetness to it that I can't quite describe with words. The chesse they use is delicious and gooey when you pull that first slice of heaven. My husband always orders the pizza with me (if it's just us we get the 4 slice delux) and gets mac-n-cheese as well... it's so good! When I'm there with a larger group, I like to order the Antipasto salad and Buddy Bread... it's just the right amount of food for a group to devour!! The best thing about Buddy's is that if you order too much food, you can take it home! There's nothing better than a cold slice of Buddy's in the morning!!

I finally took the husband to Buddy's. I am not a huge pizza fan myself except for when we go to Chicago so I had not been to Buddy's in over ten years. He loves the stuff but usually eats at his Toledo faves at least once a week at work so he is not as anxious to try the pizzas up here. This weekend though he decided it was time to give it a go. The place is nice inside. He loved the big screens showing Red Wing hockey, a good game to boot. Our waitress was slack jawed we were not familiar with Buddy's but seeing his Cubs shirt kinda got why not. She was very enthusiastic and sweet and we always appreciate that. We ended up going with the breadsticks and an eight square of the meaty pizza. I thought the breadsticks were a bit undercooked for my taste, super doughy but my husband likes that. The tomato sauce she brought with them was meh but then she decided to bring us out very good ranch dressing to try which was much happier. The pizza itself was great. Crispy edges, buttery but not really greasy. James wishes we would have gotten extra cheese but frankly I thought there was plenty. Good amount of tasty sauce in that it did not dominate but nicely coated between the dough and cheese. Pepperoni was properly buried under cheese, the rest of the meat was nicely crisped. I thought the pizza was a trifle overpriced for the size we got but I am not a pizza regular so I have no real clue about the going rate. Overall very nice though and worth a return.

I am very lucky to live near Buddy's, it is my go-to place for pizza (unless I need delivery). I have had their pizza and their lasagna several times and they have always been well cooked and full of flavor. The prices match the quality of the food, but they always have some sort of coupon out. You can print coupons online to bring in. Their soups are homemade. I have tried the Tortilla and the Chicken Noodle and both have been quite good. Sadly, no delivery, and their parking lot is often packed. They do have a separate entrance for pick-up, so that helps make a pick-up run quick.

I can't decide if the square pizza is a plus or a minus. It has the inherent problem of corners. The corners are sauce and toppings free...which with any other pizza would be a big issue. But I have to agree with GQ magazine that the crust is so good that having a part of the pizza without sauce and toppings is not a big issue. The crust is that good! I usually get my pizza at Pizza Papalis when I am in Detroit...but I think Buddy's is better.

The best of the best! I left southeast Michigan long ago and in my experience there is no pizza like home, and no pizza like Buddys. Growing up around great pizza places like Buddys, Shields, Pizza Cutter and others, I never realized what I'd had, until I moved. People wake up! For all the time I've spent in NY and Chicago, TX and CA, GA and FL, CT and MA, etc. places where they have their own style or they claim its authentically 'someplace' (Italy, Chicago, wherever) - it simply does not compare. Sure my upbringing makes me a little biased but I can tell you when it comes to pizza change is only good when its temporary. So branching out and having pizza from any of these other styles is OK for a short time, but the best pizza truly comes from Michigan and Buddys is #1 on that list. And it's not just their pizza, you also have to get the exceptional antipasto for the full Buddys experience. Five stars is reserved for perfection and I would not offer it lightly, this is the real deal. As a business associate from out of state who I once introduced to Buddys while in town said, "Wow, I'm having a difficult time describing just how good this is."

My wife and I just had our first "Buddys experience" last Friday night, and I have no choice but to join in the chorus of high praise!! Buddys Pizza deserves all the accolades it has received! We went in an about 8pm and the place was jumpin' but not even the 25min wait dampened our visit! We had a fantastic server (Margarette) who was super fast and very helpful with her recommendations. For starters we had fried Ravioli (which is a lot lighter than it sounds) and a Greek salad with an amazing homemade dressing. An awesome beginning, but the best was yet to come.....THE PIZZA!! We got half Sicilian and half Margaretta and (I know its a big call) but hands down the best Pizza I have tasted in the USA!! The fresh ingredients and the saucey take Buddys Pizza to a whole new level for pizza! No doubt this is our new pizza hang out! :)

i would say 4.5 cuz i didn't really get a chance to become emotionally attached to this place while i was there. it was 3 adults and 3 kids. a 1, 3, and 5 yr old and us. so we were evenly matched. but they were still jumping, crawling, standing, walking, mumbling...doing all the things to distract 3 caretakers from lunch. staff was really nice. they all loved the little girls. decor is cool. it's pretty new, but they got a bunch of stuff to show they have been around a while. they got history. that always helps for fantastic food joints. we got three 4-square pizzas: cheese, pepperoni, and 1 with jalepeno, pep, green peppers, onions, and black olives. the dough is very soft, mushy, and chewy. just right. i bet after a few beers and a couple rounds of shots it would be almost magical. i did notice a small bar. a couple of cokes, a couple of juice boxes, a buddy bread (salty, warm, soft, garlicky, addictive), and an anti-pasta. the a-p was pretty darn good too. overall, the price was right too! 3 adults and 3 quarter-humanoids and it came to $47 with tax. i think i might have to come here every time i make a trip out here. Buddy, i want to get to know you better!

Yeaaahhhh Buddy's! I usually hit the Dearborn location but Livonia was on our way home from a cider mill jaunt so my friend and I popped in for a bite to fill up on some salty post doughnut and cider sugar binge. SUCH a good call. We had a super sweet coupon for half-off a 4 square so we ordered up the light pizza since we're both attempting to eat a bit healthier. A mix of full fat and fat free cheese cuts down on the calories without losing the flavor. It came topped with spinach and mushrooms (sans tomatoes for my tomato loathing friend) and it was quite tasty. The crust is the same delicious Buddy's crust so I honestly would have never known that it was a reduced cal pizza if I wasn't told. But they do have a multi-grain crust should you desire and they even offer a gluten free menu for all gluten-sensitive folks out there. Love that they offer both. It can be hard and somewhat alienating to go out to eat if you've got dietary restrictions so I'm glad Buddy's is mindful and accommodating of that. Oh, and if you're not feeling like pizza they've got some pasta and sandwiches on the menu as well. Can't speak to those, though, since I'm always zeroing in on the 'za! So! We split the pizza and a tossed salad and we had a most excellent and filling meal. The perfect antidote to the cider sugar-binge shakes. The wait can be a bit of a bear but they do have a bar seating if you want to get a drink while you wait. If you're starving they offer some goldfish crackers to tied you over. And outdoor patio seating if it's warm out decreases the wait time. Lots of TVs around should you want to catch the game (isn't there always a game on?). I made note of this because we had a friend cancel on us because he wanted to watch the Red Wings' game. Little did he know he could have watched the game AND eaten some kick ass pizza with two righteous ladies if he had come on out.

Buddy's is a classic with a lot of metro Detroiters, including my husband's family. This is a popular gathering point for birthdays and other celebrations. We always get the antipasto salad (that they're willing to prepare without ham for me) and a couple pizzas, along with beers and sodas. As busy as the parking lot frequently looks, I don't think we've ever had to wait more than a couple minutes for a table. Some nights there are special events, like wandering clowns making balloon animals. One time when we were there, some clowns were meeting that weren't even in costume, and they still brought my daughter a balloon animal. I've used their carryout on the way home from work before too. It's not quite as friendly as inside the restaurant, but it gets the job done.

Been going to/picking up from this place for at least 25 years. Love the pizza and the salads. The Ice Cream Drinks are great. However, lately, we have noticed that they are starting to skimp on the salads. The antipasto salad used to be bigger, and they made it smaller a couple years ago. Now they seem to be limiting the cheese and meat that the put on top, and the tomatoes seem to be getting more scarce. Considering the price, they really shouldn't need to skimp. $27 for a pizza and salad at carry out is plenty of money for them to provide what they used to provide. We will still go, but maybe a little less often.

When I heard that this place in Livonia had an entire menu dedicated to gluten free pizza, I had to check it out. I've been to Buddy's twice now, and it seems that regardless of the time I go it is always PACKED with people. People eating, people waiting, people at the bar. - you can barely walk in the door. I recommend waiting at the bar if possible, so you don't get trampled near the doorway. Plus you can pay for your drink there and bring it over to your table later. They make their cherry coke's with grenadine for an added delicious factor. I must say the gluten free pizza is DIVINE. You would never be able to tell it was gluten free! Often times gluten free crust just crumbles in your hand - or it has a weird texture - but they definitely know how to do it right at Buddy's. Plus you can choose from different styles of pizza, so you aren't just stuck with the basics. The sides are decent but nothing extraordinary. The overwhelming atmosphere is a bit much, but I can brave the masses every once in awhile to get some delicious pizza. I definitely recommend it for the gluten-intolerant.

I just had the new multi-grain crust and I think I may never get the regular crust again. This was good! It was a bit thinner than the white and it had a good crunch and flavor to it. I was expecting it to be a really strong grain flavor like Amichi's wheat crust or something but it wasn't overpowering or overly "healthy" at all. In fact I don't know if it has any more/or less heath benefits than the white - all I know is it's good and I'll be having it again. Oh yeah they have excellent Ranch too! :)

Last Friday, when every other place was packed to the gills (Playoffs!) we found ourselves headed to Buddy's. Luckily we were able to get a seat and prompt service. We tried the Detroiter pizza - it was fantastic. Nothing too elaborate...it had a basil tomato sauce with pepperoni and brick cheese, then topped with parmesan and baked. Simple but oh-so-good. I'd highly recommend it. It's nice to have a place where you can rely on getting a seat and consistent food. Yay for Buddy's.

Fuck Yeah! I had never been here before but took my ol' lady on a trip for some pizza. It was packed when we got there but after a short 10 minute wait the two of us got a nice quiet booth in the corner. I had a decent size Blue Moon, on draft, and we ordered some cheese & bacon fries to start. For the love of God, YES! They were amazing. I don't eat fries that often but these were amazing. Hot, salty and crunchy. With cheese and bacon to top it off. How can you not like that? Our waitress was nice enough and didn't bother us. She seemed pretty busy. I ordered my favorite pizza which is pepperoni, pineapple and jalapenos. Whenever I try a new pizza place that is my 'go to'. Well. It was fucking amazing. If Buddy was a real person I would high five that bitch. I got the 4 slice pizza and it was plenty to satisfy my fat ass. Not too saucy and not too cheesy. The toppings tasted fresh and the pizza was just straight up good. I have had Lou Malnati's which is famous nationwide. I personally like this pizza much better. In fact for only the second time in my Yelp life I am giving this place five stars. Thank you Buddy's. Thank you for making bomb ass pizza without the bullshit. USA! USA! USA!

This place still has the best hawaiian pizza I've ever had. Instead of marinara, they use sweet and sour!! I can't believe no one else has copied this yet. It's a nice sit down restaurant, but also has take out. They even serve beer, which is one of my favorite combinations on earth!! I always make it a priority to stop here when I go back to visit my family. They've always been consistant in taste and quality.

Hands down, the best traditional pizza in the Detroit area. Thick, crispy, and you can actually taste ALL of the toppings! Couldn't be better. The "small" Greek salad is actually THREE platefuls! I come here once a month, by myself, and enjoy my meal immensely. The waitstaff is super friendly without being overbearing. Good for lunch, dinner, or a quick bite. I'm waffling between three or four stars. Basically what you get in this place is pizza and Italian food that tends toward the blandly flavored and the heavily cheesed. If it's not an official option to get every menu item covered in red sauce and mozzarella, and baked, then it might as well be. The pizza is their high point. If you get the pizza with the regular sauce, it's disappointing and bland, but if you get the more spiced basil sauce that comes on the Detroiter (a pepperoni pizza, basically), it's much more interesting. If you like deep-dish pizza, the Detroiter is worth four or five stars. Their breadsticks, pizza with the bland sauce, and the rest of their Italian-themed entrees are squeaking by with three.

Buddy's is one of the Detroit area's gems! They are known for their pizza, but I've yet to find something on the menu that I don't like. Their pizza has a thick, rich, buttery crust, but it's different than Chicago and New York style pizza entirely. The toppings are fresh and plentiful. This isn't your thin crust cardboard-box style pizza, so plan for only 1 or 2 pieces per person when ordering. The Buddy's Bread is also delicious, baked fresh and smothered with garlic butter and Parmesan. The chicken tenders are great, and do not appear to be a premade, freezer-to-deep-fryer creation like at most restaurants. And do not miss out on the Antipasto salad. Crisp romaine and iceberg lettuces, ham, salami, cheese, tomatoes, and vinaigrette--it seems simple enough, but Buddy's chooses the right ingredients for the perfect balance. Oh Buddy's, how I love thee! So much variety! Personally I love my pizza on their multi-grain crust, and I ask for my salads to be sans iceberg, all wild greens please! Everything is so fresh, a great change from a lot of places. They have creatively themed pizzas named after the Detroit Zoo, Mackinac Bridge and other Michigan landmarks. They also have a nicely stocked bar with complimentary snacks (pretzels, popcorn, goldfish etc). The staff at this location is great! I have never received anything below excellent service. If you live in the Metro Detroit area you should be familiar with Buddy's. There are a couple of locations - we usually frequent this one in Livonia or the one in Dearborn. This one has more of a family atmosphere and not quite as many Tv's I believe. There is usually a wait on weekend evenings. The menu also has sandwiches and pasta but when we come it's for two things: an antipasto salad and an 8 piece square pizza (which gives us leftovers for dinner the next night). The pepperoni is placed under the cheese, which isn't my absolute favorite because who doesn't like those little charred pieces of the edge of the pepperoni? The Italian sausage is very good. And if you want something different the chicken fajita pizza served with a side of sour cream is a fun option. Tip: Check their website or the Entertainment book for coupons. Also, if you visit the Henry Ford Museum (and if you're living in Detroit you really should) the back of the ticket has a $4 off coupon and the Dearborn location is just down the street. Buddy's is the cream of the crop as far as Detroit Pizza Joints. Now living in St. Pete, Florida, I struggle to find pizza that can rock my socks off the way Buddy's does. Whenever I get pizza with a fellow Michigander down here, we reminisce about Buddy's the whole time. We always get a huge deep dish and family size antipasto salad. Its the bomb. Then a beer or soda depending on your preference. It can get pretty crowded sometimes, and then of course service will not be uber speedy, but the last few times I have been back to the Detroit area to visit (and of course get me some Buddy's), I have not had any problems. The staff has been friendly and knowledgeable. Uhg, I miss Buddy's!!!

Such. Good. Pizza. Loved the concept of the Great Lakes pizzas, and was hoping I could try different ones, but one half of our group stuck with the traditional met lovers. So my friend and I just split the Lake Huron, basically a spinach and artichoke pizza on multigrain crust. So, so good. You still have yummy pizza without the feeling of heavy cheese and sauces. We were also there for our friend's birthday, and the waitress said she'd bring out a sundae, but we never got around to getting it. We were eating before going to see a show at Joey's Comedy Club, and she never came around again. Bummer. Sign up for their emails and get $5 off. The waitress also gave us other coupons. I found it kind of funny they were all for the exact same thing, which was like a small with one topping.

Nowadays, it's hard to please this former Detroiter-turned Chicagoan with pizza of any other type than deep dish... However, Buddy's Pizza has actually satisfied me with its depth of flavor in their more healthier options and does not leave me missing my usual guilty pleasure of a thick crust. For instance, order one of the latest menu items, the Great Lakes pizza varieties, and you can't go wrong. The combo of fresh veggies and (optional) multi-grain thin crust helped create a lighter twist on the classic party food. I LOVED the Lake Huron with its roasted artichoke and spinach. Plus, partial proceeds of these specific pizzas go towards conserving the lakes. On the other hand, some in my group had to order one of the more common choices for our second pizza - a meat deluxe, which did not nearly impress me as much. This one felt like it did not have enough sauce or seasoning. The antipasto salad tasted like the usual to me, and we were going to have a sundae for dessert but ran out of time because we were headed to a show and the server got bombarded by an even bigger party next to ours...We did have much better/consistent service when it wasn't so busy earlier in the night. All in all, this is a place I would love to revisit whenever I'm back in my hometown area!

This is my favorite deep dish square pizza. Hands down. Every chained pizza joint likes to do their own spin on the Detroit square deep dish classic without much success (In my opinion anyways...Jets looks like an ugly step child next to Buddy's). Everything is fresh, made to order, has the perfect amount of topping ratio, and is DELICIOUS. The pizza takes a bit of time (especially on a weekend) but it's worth the wait. Order one of their many appetizers (the antipasto salad is the awesome), get yourself a pitcher of beer, and bask in the awesomeness that is Buddy's.

Every time we go to Buddy's I wonder why we don't got more often (OK, I know the reason - I nix it when Ken puts it on the list... so it's my own darn fault). Expect to wait on weekend evenings. Heck, you may wait during the week too. The place is huge, with a parking lot the size you'd expect to find attached to a church, but you still may wait. We usually get the 8pc Sicilian (because we always have a $4 coupon for the 8pc). I don't always love deep dish pizza, but Buddy's is one of the few exceptions (Rogala's is another) - it's the crispy edges, plus perfect ratio of toppings to sauce to crust, that gets me going. This last time we also split the Individual-sized Antipasto salad (the only sure fire way I can make Ken eat salad is to put ham, salami and cheese on top) - note: individual size is plenty big enough for two to split if you're ordering any size pizza. Food at this location is consistently great. The restaurant is loud when full. There are TVs mounted in most corners, always on sports. Waitstaff is very pleasant and available.

Very good pies. Good minestrone as well. Other entree's...well I had the manicotti once. An expired Banquet TV dinner would have been far superior but the pizza is terrific. The staff is friendly too. Nice beer selection. The Livonia location has very difficult access for someone in a wheelchair. There is a long inclined ramp up into the place and everyone who is picking up carry-out's parks their car's smack dab in your way. I wrote to them about the carry out parking. They quickly responded apologetically, included some free coupons as well, but nothing has changed insofar as the parking in front of the access ramp. Oh well. They need to fix the door situation. Did I mention they have really good pizza? Yum!

Buddy's is the standard for deep dish pizza in Detroit. This is the location closest to Ann Arbor. Went here the other night and I think it's actually better than some of the others. I just took my first trip to Detroit and was taken to Buddy's by some locals. I'm from Boston, we eat thin brick oven pizza, and don't have a whole lot to choose from in the deep dish variety. If you can find deep dish in Boston, it usually isn't very good. Enter Buddy's.. I fell in love. I got a simple pepperoni. It was crispy, the right amount of dough, to cheese, to sauce. Just perfect! The best part was, my dining companions left a few slices and I stole them to bring back to the hotel for breakfast. (I love left over pizza for breakfast!) The bad part was I left them in the hotel mini-fridge and forgot to take it on my way to the airport. The website says that they ship pizza across the US... maybe I will take them up on that.

i really don't understand people who rant and rave about how amazing buddy's pizza is! it's honestly not that great. i've been to this location only once but i've attended many other buddy's locations. don't get me wrong, the service here is great and all of the staff are friendly. however, buddy's pizza just has their own unique taste to their pizza and it's not necessarily a good one. i love deep dish square pizza and i've had better at local pizzerias than buddy's. the pizza is not gross, but it's just average. you could get better by just ordering from your local pizza place!

Since I live in Livonia, it's quite easy for me to satisfy my Buddy's fix. Unfortunately, however, the Livonia Buddy's is hit and miss. For example ... I grew up near the original Buddy's in Detroit. THAT pizza was perfect every time. Perfectly cooked, perfect amount of cheese, toppings, etc. Delish. For a while, to even get close to that perfect pizza at the Livonia location we ordered our pizzas "cooked well-done and with extra sauce." Livonia's pizzas are typicall undercooked, too doughy, and missing that signature crusty outer edge. Our pizza this past Friday was horrible. Waaaaaaaaay too much sauce that tasted like yesterday's marinara. Luckily, I work downtown, so I may have to order before I leave the office and pick up a pie from the Original store.

Buddy's rocks! They have soy cheese pizza! I'm lactose intolerant, so it's great that I can finally FINALLY order a pizza that the toppings don't fall off of! My sister and I went there and had a large veggie covered soy cheese pizza on multi-grain crust. It was great! I do prefer their regular crust to the multi-grain, but it was still amazing. I am so relieved that I can have pizza with "cheese" on it! Buddy's also offers a gluten-free crust.

Buddy's Pizza is the greatest pizza place of all time. I've eaten at all the classic Chicago pizza places, every other pizza place I've ever encountered, and order pizza at any restaurant that sells it. This is the best, and I've outlined the formula for a successful and delicious dinner. Normally, I review the atmosphere, service, pricing, portions, and all of that junk - these things are irrelevant at Buddy's (though we've gone there for many times for family gatherings - they are great for events, kids, and family's). The food is really all that matters. So here are the highlights: APPS: The antipasto is covered in a marginally excessive amount of dressing, and an obscene amount of ham, salami, and cubes of cheese. It's the very best I've ever had. You could probably ask for light dressing and still get it in full glory. PIZZA: The square pepperoni pizza will never, ever disappoint you. If it's your first time there, just take the advice and get pepperoni, I've had other toppings and been happy, but this is perfection. What actually makes this pizza different? A few things: crust and cheese. Crust - coated in enough butter to get beautifully browned and crispy. Buddy's converted me from a crust-trimmer to someone who will fight you for the corner piece. Nearest thing I've had to the crust is from Jet's pizza, but this is the next glorious step up. Cheese - the cheese is thick and delicious. It carries notes reminiscent of Saganaki (flaming cheese from your favorite greek restaurant) that set it completely apart from any other pizza I've had. Just order it and don't mess it up with anything other than pepperoni. DESSERT: Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puff is the perfect way to finish your dinner if you aren't sufficiently stuffed. If you haven't had anything from Sanders, this is a great place to try the carmel-hot-fudge-combo sauce and a great cream puff or sundae. Admittedly, the Livonia location is not my favorite - service is good, pizza is usually good but they aren't always as consistent in cooking the pizza to just the right temp. Dearborn and Warren are the very best, but you will still be happy no matter where you go!

Buddy's is a Detroit original that cannot be beat! When my husband and I were looking for a place to have lunch after our baby's baptism, there were a few places we considered- Mongolian BBQ and OIive Garden were just a few in consideration. Then we talked more about places that could accomodate a group as large as 30 but as small as 5 and not be an issue, and we wanted somewhere that had a great menu, with a lot of choices for everyone. We decided on Buddy's and one of the things that we liked the best was that they have a Gluten-Free items, as well as soy cheese for those who cannot eat dairy. Pretty awesome for a pizza joint! I think we also liked that you can order pizza and just let everyone dig in, or you can order individual salads, sandwiches, and dinners. To each his own! The sauce that they use is one-of-a-kind and has a sweetness to it that I can't quite describe with words. The chesse they use is delicious and gooey when you pull that first slice of heaven. My husband always orders the pizza with me (if it's just us we get the 4 slice delux) and gets mac-n-cheese as well... it's so good! When I'm there with a larger group, I like to order the Antipasto salad and Buddy Bread... it's just the right amount of food for a group to devour!! The best thing about Buddy's is that if you order too much food, you can take it home! There's nothing better than a cold slice of Buddy's in the morning!!

I finally took the husband to Buddy's. I am not a huge pizza fan myself except for when we go to Chicago so I had not been to Buddy's in over ten years. He loves the stuff but usually eats at his Toledo faves at least once a week at work so he is not as anxious to try the pizzas up here. This weekend though he decided it was time to give it a go. The place is nice inside. He loved the big screens showing Red Wing hockey, a good game to boot. Our waitress was slack jawed we were not familiar with Buddy's but seeing his Cubs shirt kinda got why not. She was very enthusiastic and sweet and we always appreciate that. We ended up going with the breadsticks and an eight square of the meaty pizza. I thought the breadsticks were a bit undercooked for my taste, super doughy but my husband likes that. The tomato sauce she brought with them was meh but then she decided to bring us out very good ranch dressing to try which was much happier. The pizza itself was great. Crispy edges, buttery but not really greasy. James wishes we would have gotten extra cheese but frankly I thought there was plenty. Good amount of tasty sauce in that it did not dominate but nicely coated between the dough and cheese. Pepperoni was properly buried under cheese, the rest of the meat was nicely crisped. I thought the pizza was a trifle overpriced for the size we got but I am not a pizza regular so I have no real clue about the going rate. Overall very nice though and worth a return.

I am very lucky to live near Buddy's, it is my go-to place for pizza (unless I need delivery). I have had their pizza and their lasagna several times and they have always been well cooked and full of flavor. The prices match the quality of the food, but they always have some sort of coupon out. You can print coupons online to bring in. Their soups are homemade. I have tried the Tortilla and the Chicken Noodle and both have been quite good. Sadly, no delivery, and their parking lot is often packed. They do have a separate entrance for pick-up, so that helps make a pick-up run quick.

Best Pizza around. I live in Ypsilanti and there is none nearby but I drive to Livonia just to get this amazing pizza. The crunchy crust and lots of cheese really makes it. I also love the sauce. I have also had the salad. The Harvest salad is the best! You might have to ask for it because its not on every menu. Nuts, cranberries, garden salad mix and more. Love it.

I can't decide if the square pizza is a plus or a minus. It has the inherent problem of corners. The corners are sauce and toppings free...which with any other pizza would be a big issue. But I have to agree with GQ magazine that the crust is so good that having a part of the pizza without sauce and toppings is not a big issue. The crust is that good! I usually get my pizza at Pizza Papalis when I am in Detroit...but I think Buddy's is better.

The best of the best! I left southeast Michigan long ago and in my experience there is no pizza like home, and no pizza like Buddys. Growing up around great pizza places like Buddys, Shields, Pizza Cutter and others, I never realized what I'd had, until I moved. People wake up! For all the time I've spent in NY and Chicago, TX and CA, GA and FL, CT and MA, etc. places where they have their own style or they claim its authentically 'someplace' (Italy, Chicago, wherever) - it simply does not compare. Sure my upbringing makes me a little biased but I can tell you when it comes to pizza change is only good when its temporary. So branching out and having pizza from any of these other styles is OK for a short time, but the best pizza truly comes from Michigan and Buddys is #1 on that list. And it's not just their pizza, you also have to get the exceptional antipasto for the full Buddys experience. Five stars is reserved for perfection and I would not offer it lightly, this is the real deal. As a business associate from out of state who I once introduced to Buddys while in town said, "Wow, I'm having a difficult time describing just how good this is."

My wife and I just had our first "Buddys experience" last Friday night, and I have no choice but to join in the chorus of high praise!! Buddys Pizza deserves all the accolades it has received! We went in an about 8pm and the place was jumpin' but not even the 25min wait dampened our visit! We had a fantastic server (Margarette) who was super fast and very helpful with her recommendations. For starters we had fried Ravioli (which is a lot lighter than it sounds) and a Greek salad with an amazing homemade dressing. An awesome beginning, but the best was yet to come.....THE PIZZA!! We got half Sicilian and half Margaretta and (I know its a big call) but hands down the best Pizza I have tasted in the USA!! The fresh ingredients and the saucey take Buddys Pizza to a whole new level for pizza! No doubt this is our new pizza hang out! :)

i would say 4.5 cuz i didn't really get a chance to become emotionally attached to this place while i was there. it was 3 adults and 3 kids. a 1, 3, and 5 yr old and us. so we were evenly matched. but they were still jumping, crawling, standing, walking, mumbling...doing all the things to distract 3 caretakers from lunch. staff was really nice. they all loved the little girls. decor is cool. it's pretty new, but they got a bunch of stuff to show they have been around a while. they got history. that always helps for fantastic food joints. we got three 4-square pizzas: cheese, pepperoni, and 1 with jalepeno, pep, green peppers, onions, and black olives. the dough is very soft, mushy, and chewy. just right. i bet after a few beers and a couple rounds of shots it would be almost magical. i did notice a small bar. a couple of cokes, a couple of juice boxes, a buddy bread (salty, warm, soft, garlicky, addictive), and an anti-pasta. the a-p was pretty darn good too. overall, the price was right too! 3 adults and 3 quarter-humanoids and it came to $47 with tax. i think i might have to come here every time i make a trip out here. Buddy, i want to get to know you better!

Yeaaahhhh Buddy's! I usually hit the Dearborn location but Livonia was on our way home from a cider mill jaunt so my friend and I popped in for a bite to fill up on some salty post doughnut and cider sugar binge. SUCH a good call. We had a super sweet coupon for half-off a 4 square so we ordered up the light pizza since we're both attempting to eat a bit healthier. A mix of full fat and fat free cheese cuts down on the calories without losing the flavor. It came topped with spinach and mushrooms (sans tomatoes for my tomato loathing friend) and it was quite tasty. The crust is the same delicious Buddy's crust so I honestly would have never known that it was a reduced cal pizza if I wasn't told. But they do have a multi-grain crust should you desire and they even offer a gluten free menu for all gluten-sensitive folks out there. Love that they offer both. It can be hard and somewhat alienating to go out to eat if you've got dietary restrictions so I'm glad Buddy's is mindful and accommodating of that. Oh, and if you're not feeling like pizza they've got some pasta and sandwiches on the menu as well. Can't speak to those, though, since I'm always zeroing in on the 'za! So! We split the pizza and a tossed salad and we had a most excellent and filling meal. The perfect antidote to the cider sugar-binge shakes. The wait can be a bit of a bear but they do have a bar seating if you want to get a drink while you wait. If you're starving they offer some goldfish crackers to tied you over. And outdoor patio seating if it's warm out decreases the wait time. Lots of TVs around should you want to catch the game (isn't there always a game on?). I made note of this because we had a friend cancel on us because he wanted to watch the Red Wings' game. Little did he know he could have watched the game AND eaten some kick ass pizza with two righteous ladies if he had come on out.

Buddy's is a classic with a lot of metro Detroiters, including my husband's family. This is a popular gathering point for birthdays and other celebrations. We always get the antipasto salad (that they're willing to prepare without ham for me) and a couple pizzas, along with beers and sodas. As busy as the parking lot frequently looks, I don't think we've ever had to wait more than a couple minutes for a table. Some nights there are special events, like wandering clowns making balloon animals. One time when we were there, some clowns were meeting that weren't even in costume, and they still brought my daughter a balloon animal. I've used their carryout on the way home from work before too. It's not quite as friendly as inside the restaurant, but it gets the job done.

Been going to/picking up from this place for at least 25 years. Love the pizza and the salads. The Ice Cream Drinks are great. However, lately, we have noticed that they are starting to skimp on the salads. The antipasto salad used to be bigger, and they made it smaller a couple years ago. Now they seem to be limiting the cheese and meat that the put on top, and the tomatoes seem to be getting more scarce. Considering the price, they really shouldn't need to skimp. $27 for a pizza and salad at carry out is plenty of money for them to provide what they used to provide. We will still go, but maybe a little less often.

As a Gluten intolerant person, one of the many things I have come to miss eating is pizza. When I heard that this place in Livonia had an entire menu dedicated to gluten free pizza, I had to check it out. I've been to Buddy's twice now, and it seems that regardless of the time I go it is always PACKED with people. People eating, people waiting, people at the bar. - you can barely walk in the door. I recommend waiting at the bar if possible, so you don't get trampled near the doorway. Plus you can pay for your drink there and bring it over to your table later. They make their cherry coke's with grenadine for an added delicious factor. I must say the gluten free pizza is DIVINE. You would never be able to tell it was gluten free! Often times gluten free crust just crumbles in your hand - or it has a weird texture - but they definitely know how to do it right at Buddy's. Plus you can choose from different styles of pizza, so you aren't just stuck with the basics. The sides are decent but nothing extraordinary. The overwhelming atmosphere is a bit much, but I can brave the masses every once in awhile to get some delicious pizza. I definitely recommend it for the gluten-intolerant.

I just had the new multi-grain crust and I think I may never get the regular crust again. This was good! It was a bit thinner than the white and it had a good crunch and flavor to it. I was expecting it to be a really strong grain flavor like Amichi's wheat crust or something but it wasn't overpowering or overly "healthy" at all. In fact I don't know if it has any more/or less heath benefits than the white - all I know is it's good and I'll be having it again. Oh yeah they have excellent Ranch too! :)

Last Friday, when every other place was packed to the gills (Playoffs!) we found ourselves headed to Buddy's. Luckily we were able to get a seat and prompt service. We tried the Detroiter pizza - it was fantastic. Nothing too elaborate...it had a basil tomato sauce with pepperoni and brick cheese, then topped with parmesan and baked. Simple but oh-so-good. I'd highly recommend it. It's nice to have a place where you can rely on getting a seat and consistent food. Yay for Buddy's.

Fuck Yeah! I had never been here before but took my ol' lady on a trip for some pizza. It was packed when we got there but after a short 10 minute wait the two of us got a nice quiet booth in the corner. I had a decent size Blue Moon, on draft, and we ordered some cheese & bacon fries to start. For the love of God, YES! They were amazing. I don't eat fries that often but these were amazing. Hot, salty and crunchy. With cheese and bacon to top it off. How can you not like that? Our waitress was nice enough and didn't bother us. She seemed pretty busy. I ordered my favorite pizza which is pepperoni, pineapple and jalapenos. Whenever I try a new pizza place that is my 'go to'. Well. It was fucking amazing. If Buddy was a real person I would high five that bitch. I got the 4 slice pizza and it was plenty to satisfy my fat ass. Not too saucy and not too cheesy. The toppings tasted fresh and the pizza was just straight up good. I have had Lou Malnati's which is famous nationwide. I personally like this pizza much better. In fact for only the second time in my Yelp life I am giving this place five stars. Thank you Buddy's. Thank you for making bomb ass pizza without the bullshit. USA! USA! USA!

This place still has the best hawaiian pizza I've ever had. Instead of marinara, they use sweet and sour!! I can't believe no one else has copied this yet. It's a nice sit down restaurant, but also has take out. They even serve beer, which is one of my favorite combinations on earth!! Hands down, the best traditional pizza in the Detroit area. Thick, crispy, and you can actually taste ALL of the toppings! Couldn't be better. The "small" Greek salad is actually THREE platefuls! I come here once a month, by myself, and enjoy my meal immensely. The waitstaff is super friendly without being overbearing. Good for lunch, dinner, or a quick bite. Only three minutes from the heart of Livonia, and of course, there are branches all over town.

I'm waffling between three or four stars. Basically what you get in this place is pizza and Italian food that tends toward the blandly flavored and the heavily cheesed. If it's not an official option to get every menu item covered in red sauce and mozzarella, and baked, then it might as well be. The pizza is their high point. If you get the pizza with the regular sauce, it's disappointing and bland, but if you get the more spiced basil sauce that comes on the Detroiter (a pepperoni pizza, basically), it's much more interesting. If you like deep-dish pizza, the Detroiter is worth four or five stars. Their breadsticks, pizza with the bland sauce, and the rest of their Italian-themed entrees are squeaking by with three.

This edition of Excited about Eating spotlights a couple restaurants in Michigan, where we visited for a NASCAR race. We scouted out a local pizza place. Buddy's Pizza in Livonia, with their deep dish offerings, sounded right up our foodie alley. Be warned, though. Don't wait until 7 PM on a Friday night and expect to get right in. This place was jammed! Their pizzas come in squares of 4 or 8. We opted for 2x4's, a Meat Deluxe with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, and seasoned ground beef, and a Pepperoni. Both pizzas were outstanding, not greasy, and full of flavor. Dora here. I confess that I tend to be somewhat of a pizza snob. I don't like pizzas smothered in sauce or cheese, and my fave is thick and doughy. These pies were not doughy, but crispy and not too cheesy or saucy. Surprisingly awesome, and I can definitely understand why they were packed! Slice out a wedge of time, though, because the pies took forevah! I love Buddy's pizza. Whether is is pick up or dine in, the food is great and so is the service. However, on 2 separate occasions now, I have had a LONG hair in my food. I'm not one to usually get bothered by this, but with it being the second time & the fact that the hair is towards the bottom after eating - it doesn't make my experience enjoyable. I went in there today for lunch. They had a Polish theme going on for the day with people dressed in traditional garb. Strange, I know, for a pizza joint. Supposedly they had a Polish pizza on the menu. I'm not sure what it consisted of though, because I didn't order it. I wish I had asked, just out of curiosity. I ordered their Motown pizza which had cheese, old world pepperoni, and bacon. The pizza is square, deep dish style. They are very generous with the toppings and cheese. It was cooked just right, not overcooked or undercooked. This is the type of pizza you eat with a knife and fork. The crust is crisp and not soggy with grease. A four square size is more than enough for one person. I ate three pieces and took the last one home for a snack some other day. If you like deep dish pizza, this is the place for you. The service is fast and the food is good.

We were in search of a sit-down deep-dish-offering pizza joint on Saturday, and yelp led us here. There was ample parking, and even though it was busy, there are enough tables that we were seated right away. The menu has a ton of stuff on it, but they only say the pizza comes in 4sq or 8sq... I had no idea what that meant. I asked our server if they had deep dish pizza, she laughed and said "Yeah, that's our pizza", and walked away. Okay? So I'm assuming they're all deep dish, and I'll assume that 4sq is half the size of 8sq - thanks for chatting! Upon ordering a glass of wine and a beer, we were carded - that's fine, I've been over 21 for many years. I pulled out my ID and realized that I didn't have my current one! I had been carded the night before as well, so I could only assume that I'd left/lost it at the restaurant the night before. DANGIT! I told her of the mistake, but pointed out on my old voided ID that I was clearly of age, and she still refused to serve me. I get it, that's policy - but still crummy. When Joe's beer was delivered, I had a sip of his. She obviously saw and then avoided his empty glass the rest of the meal. We ordered the Sicilian pizza, and it arrived in about 20 minutes. I guess I'm just a little pickier when it comes to calling a pizza deep dish - this doesn't just mean a thick crust with a drizzle of chopped tomatoes on the top. I was very disappointed with the lack of sauce on the top of the pizza. That aside, for what this pizza was, it was delicious. There were ample toppings, tons of cheese and the flavor of the crust was great - I enjoyed every piece. I always appreciate when the parmesan and red pepper flake shakers are on the tables, and of course they were here. This place was good, LOUD and quick. I would return and sit on the patio - but I would know what kind of meal I was getting into this time.

The food here, like all Buddy's, is outstanding! The set up of the place is unique too. There's an upper level and a "lower level." I love eating outside during the nice days. Large patio with a nice covering. Many times I've had poor service here. And it's typically simple things that go missed. Example not bringing plates for salad. The bringing plates and not bringing utensils. Simple things that should be obvious but aren't done. I'll keep going here though. Love buddy's and this is the closest one.

I've never been a big fan of Buddy's pizza, but that might be more the style it is. Unless you get a specialty type pizza, it's kind of plain. I think they rely more on a combination of ingredients to flavor the pizza more than seasoning, so a pepperoni pizza is pretty bland. I personally would give the pizza 3 stars. That being said, everyone else I know raves about Buddy's. The times I've been to this location, it's been clean and the staff was friendly. It's a nice place.

So I'm at the Pizza place and I'm thinking there is no way I'll be blown away. Well surprise surprise I was blown away. We came for the whole grain crust cause most places that serve pizza don't have that option. Let me tell you they should just serve all their pizzas that way. It was unbelievably delicious. I wish there was one of these in my hometown. To top it all off they donate a portion of their profits I thin $10,000 every six months to animal rescues, and they form their bread into dog biscuits every night and donate them to the pet shelter. Awesome place to get pizza and support a business that supports the less privileged in our communities. Thanks Buddy's Pizza! I will be coming back.

Always great pizza here. Both my wife and I ordered 4 square pizza and we both enjoyed them. The crustiness of all the edges make a lot of tasty bites. My sister-in-law ordered the chicken parmesan and loved it. We all took some home for dinner later. Mary R. was a great server and got everything just right I've been eating Buddy's pizza since I was young. Although it was an east side hang out, as a west sider I would sneak into Hamtramck and enjoy.The only problem I now have with Buddy's is that they don't offer a thin crust pizza---I know they are famous for their deep dish square pizza, but as I aged I now have to limit my carb intake and thus limit my Buddy's.

Delicious!!! As a native Chicagoan I feel superior to all other regions in regards to pizza.... LOL! Seriously, great pizza! Big fan of the Detroit style! It has a similar vibe to the old school Chicago style found at Pequod's. First visit I found it to be a little too sweet for my tastes so subsequent times I've just ordered it light sauce and in heaven! Only suggestion, y'all need a 6pc pizza! In our group we all got individual 4pc ones and each guy said he wished for one more piece but that it'd ruin tomorrow's lunch :) Outside of Detroit look up Jets pizza. Not nearly as awesome but the closest you'll find to this style outside of the region.

My family and I have been going to this Buddy's location for years! We have always been completely satisfied with their food and continue to be to this day. My low review is due to the unprofessionalism that we have recently been experiencing from their staff members. Twice in a row our take out order has been made incorrectly (no meatballs when we specifically ordered them and were charged for them). As well as staff laughing and not paying attention during the placing of our takeout order over the phone. The staff members here need to be taught the importance of customer service very soon or we will no longer be giving this restaurant our business.

The completely-full parking lot was a giveaway that there would be a long wait for our table; I circled the lot several times before pulling into a space on a recent Friday evening. Waiting guests were milling around outside despite the chill in the air and the small waiting area was stacked with hungry folks. I ordered my usual, a 4-slice Detroit-style, deep-dish, thick crust pizza with pineapples, Italian sausage, tomatoes and black olives. I say "usual" despite the fact that I ordered it incorrectly, twice. Thank goodness for the patient server and my good-natured friend. Despite the full dining room, our piping hot pizzas came out fairly quickly. As always, the thick and cheesy crust was well-seasoned and flavorful. I savored the first bite as much as the last, thoroughly enjoying the sweet pineapple, spicy sausage, and briny olives. We did not linger, being mindful of all the families (and sleepy kids) still waiting to eat late in the evening. However, I am already plotting my next visit - would it be too soon to return in two weeks?

This is not going to be popular with people in metro Detroit (oh well), but I didn't like Buddy's Pizza. It did not live up to the hype..... My husband and I came on a Friday at about 5. We were seated quickly and asked about our drink order. They have some nice drink specials. My husband ordered a Labatt's and I had a pinot grigio... After perusing the menu we ended up ordering a four corner pizza. My better half had all meat and I ended up having pepperoni, sausage and green olive (my favorite). While I appreciate they allowed us to order half and half, the pizza was horrible!!! I love deep dish/thick crust, but this was horribly dry. In regards to the minimal amount of sauce that was on the pizza, it was so bland I had to use the dried pepper shaker just to get any spice. The restaurant was beautiful. Open. Airy. A lot of TVs and seating. The menu offers a lot of pizza options as well as salads, pasta, and burgers. The service was ok at best. She tried to rush us through our meal. We must have had a bad pizza because the place was PACKED when we left. Obviously there is something good about this place. Sadly we didnt' experience it.

I have been going to Buddy's for years. The food quality is always good. I would recommend the anti pasta salad with your pizza. It is amazing.

Mmmmmm mmmmmmmm... Yes, it's that good. I love the pizza and may have been eating it since in utero. Seriously. My family has been loyal to Buddy's since the original at 6 Mile and Conant. I used to live around the corner from this location, which was not always a good thing. The service is always great here, whether dining in or take out. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They definitely are worth the extra tip. Oh and the antipasto salad is unlike any other, Shield's doesn't even compare. It's the brick cheese. Amazing. I wish I could find brick cheese locally; I've only found it in Wisconsin. I drive 45 minutes to get pizza and salad from here on occasion. Well, if in the area. It's not like I would drive 45 minutes for a pizza and mow on a square on the way home. No, I've never done that (last night). Like I said, just eat here. You won't regret it.

I moved near Detroit over a year ago and keep hearing how Buddys is Detroit's #1 pizza and its the pizza of Detroit. Personally, I'm more into thin pizza and prefer NY pizza rather than Chicago pizza. But I like Jet's pizza and thought Buddy's might be like Jet's but better. I'm glad I know now, cause I'll never wanna eat at Buddy's again. They put all the toppings underneath the cheese (which I always thought that was ridiculous to do) but not just that, they put the toppings on the bottom, cheese in the middle and the sauce on the top! WHAAAAT??? YUCK!!! I ended up having to wipe the sauce off cause it hurts my teeth and the worst part was the dough is just way too much. I tasted more dough than anything else and that's why I'm not a big fan of square pizza, yet I do make exceptions for Jet's pizza. And how could they call themselves Detroit's pizza, when they don't do flavored crusts of any sorts? About 98% of pizza places (chain and not) do flavored crusts. But flavored crusts is a Michigan thing, since pretty much every pizza place in Michigan does flavored crusts, any other state I'd say only 70% do that. But how could Detroit's pizza not have flavored crusts? To me, that's hit or miss with pizza because it's the best part, in my opinion. But aside from that, everything about this place was horrible. I could barely eat one slice of their chewy, doughy, bland pizza.

I've been a fan of this place since I was 16 and had a job here one summer as a hostess. Buddy bread is so good and they have perfect ranch dressing for dipping. The antipasto salad is great. The pizza is always cooked perfectly. My favorite is the BLT pizza (also great dipped in the ranch!) which isn't on the menu anymore, but you can still order it. They have a fried veggie (cauliflower, mushrooms, & zucchini) appetizer that is really good too. They also have an option to get your pizza half baked when you do carry out, so you can finish making at home to ensure a hot/fresh take out pizza. This is a great option if you want to grab a pizza but have a long way too drive Go online and get coupons before coming here, they make the prices reasonable

Delicious Detroit pizza! Get there early on the weekends or expect a longer wait! I've never tried the carry-out service, but it always looks busy. The food has always been great and the service very good. Try a specialty pizza to get the full experience.

Eat in is the better choice but carry out feeds the crave in a pinch. By far my favorite type of pizza. The crust is addictive as is the original sauce. Been here a hundred times over and am finally posting. We always use a coupon. An 8 piece will last us 2-3 meals if sided with a salad. The crust is buttery delish, just the right crisp. I make my own 5 topping and always cooked to perfection. Beats a Chicago deep dish any day of the week!!! The Livonia location was very nicely decorated for Christmas. It was very warm and cozy. It took a good 30 minutes for our food to come out. Service was slow. I ordered the Ontario pizza. It was pretty good, not sure about the sauce. My daughter ordered the little bambino pizza. She thought it was the best she has ever had.

I am a HUGE fan of they call this "Detroit style" pizza. If only it were in Chicago! All we have that is comparable is Jet's...decent, but holy crap, if you're driving by the area on the way to Canada or something, you have to stop by. If you're a cheese lover, you will adore the crust/edges of this pizza. Awesome crunch with the cheese perfectly toasted - not burnt at all! My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. Now as a tip, by the time I got to the second slice, the center part of the pizza was getting slightly on the soggy side, not as crispy. If you're lucky enough to live close by and you order to go, I would recommend getting the whole pizza out and placing it on a cooling rack of some sort to make sure the bottom of the whole pizza gets to breathe so that it doesn't get soggy right away. We also ordered the veggie sampler appetizer - didn't care too much for the zucchini, but the fried mushrooms and cauliflower were delicious. Between myself and my husband, we got a small (4 piece/square) pizza and the appetizer. It was definitely more than enough to fill us up. If only this place were closer to me!!

My 521st visit to a Buddy's and still I tried something new. Really! Okay everybody knows about the pizza and salads. I have been here so many times I tend to get what I usually order. Not this time. Original Buddy Burger- Half pound of goodness! Fresh ground chuck with steak trimmings, chargrilled and served on a grilled bakery bun with lettuce, tomato and dill chips. This is one of the few places I had until this time never tried their burger. It's a cross between a good tasting pub burger and and a real good gourmet burger. The usual friendly staff at this location that I have come to love. Nice lunch stop when I'm in the area. Oh, they also have a Baby Buddy pizza if you're just in the mood for a two slice pizza.

Okay, wow where to start. How about Buddy's is the best God damn pizza in Michigan . They have a Amazing staff who are fun, friendly and attentive. Then they bring out this hot cheesy square topped with meat and cooked to perfection. You cram it into your gullet and then leave happy. Seriously you could never leave this place in a bad mood. I could say ,wholeheartedly, that Buddy's has been the only thing to keep Michigan residents from moving away.

This is my my second favorite favorite pizza, and since I was in the neighborhood I stopped in to get a fix. Being one who suffers greatly from tomato induced acid heartburn, I appreciate that the sauce is on top so I can scrape it off and dip in to it to control the amount eaten. I asked for the pepperoni on top, but it wasn't, but I let it go since it didn't take away from the amazing crust , cheese blend, and overall flavor. There is no "hype" just a really good recipe in dough, sauce, and cheese that deserves to be and for the most part is noticed.

We ordered a carry out meal consisting of an 8 pieces Super and two 4 piece, one with pepperoni, and the other a Margherita. Throw in a large antipasto salad and now we're talking a $55 tab. OK, it's Buddy's.... However the pizza lacked the crispy crust I have enjoyed at other Buddy's locations. The crust was soft and almost gooey. Also, the toppings were very light. Very dissapointing as I had guests that had not experienced Buddy's. Did not match my expectations and actually was an average pizza at best.

Just had a conversation with someone about the lack of good pizza in Michigan. Shocked, I told them that they needed to try buddys. I told them that it was the best pizza in the Detroit area...I then paused....retracting my statement, I said that it was the best pizza I have ever had, period. The pizza sauce and pepperoni really make the pizza for me. There antipasta salad is solid as well. If you want the best pizza ever, go here ASAP!

Buddys Pizza is unique. I thought they forgot the pepperoni because they put the cheese over the pepperoni and you can't see it. The crust is thicker than most other pizzas and the sauce is absolutely wonderful. Its a mild seasoned tomatoey sauce that is never juicy. The cheese is baked and the slices are square. Their salads are huge and their hot peppers are edible without pain. The service is always friendly and efficient. We usually wait about 20 minutes for our food. The wait is worth it. I don't think it's the absolute best pizza around here, but it is definitely one of the best pizzas anywhere.

Went back today for another Robby Burger with Cheddar & bacon, with a side of potato wedges & a big crisp dill pickle. YUM!!! What drove me to go there versus somewhere else though was the chicken tortilla soup. If you haven't tried it, do so now!!! It is EXCELLENT, and I'm not even a fan of that type of soup normally. I could eat gallons of it!

Our New Years Eve's used to consist of boozing and midnight smooches... until our daughter was born in 2007. Every year since then we have visited Buddy's for dinner on New Years eve, and even added onto our brood to make it a party of 4! I think we chose Buddy's because typically we have some kind of "weight-loss" inspired resolution and deep dish pizza is clearly not in the plan for the year ahead (or next month until we give up). I have been eating at Buddy's for ages. In fact, I think it is Buddy's where I first tried vegetables on my pizza - and to this day, their classic veggie pizza is what I typically order. I have also had some experience with their Florine Marks pizza - also very satisfying if you happen to be watching your waistline but really can't escape the craving for some cheesy, greasy goodness. If you are more of a meat lover, heads up, they put the pepperonis UNDER the cheese... serious flavor infusion!! Be not afraid of ordering something rather than pizza. Burgers, soup, and salads (we love the antipasto) are also all delicious. If you are into saving money, check their website and print the coupons out before you go to save a few bucks. Even though I pass out on the couch when I get home and don't make it til midnight after our annual NYE meal here... I wouldn't change it for the world!

My family and I have been going to this Buddy's location for years! We have always been completely satisfied with their food and continue to be to this day. My low review is due to the unprofessionalism that we have recently been experiencing from their staff members. Twice in a row our take out order has been made incorrectly (no meatballs when we specifically ordered them and were charged for them). As well as staff laughing and not paying attention during the placing of our takeout order over the phone. The staff members here need to be taught the importance of customer service very soon or we will no longer be giving this restaurant our business.

This edition of Excited about Eating spotlights a couple restaurants in Michigan, where we visited for a NASCAR race. We scouted out a local pizza place. Buddy's Pizza in Livonia, with their deep dish offerings, sounded right up our foodie alley. Be warned, though. Don't wait until 7 PM on a Friday night and expect to get right in. This place was jammed! Their pizzas come in squares of 4 or 8. We opted for 2x4's, a Meat Deluxe with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, and seasoned ground beef, and a Pepperoni. Both pizzas were outstanding, not greasy, and full of flavor. Dora here. I confess that I tend to be somewhat of a pizza snob. I don't like pizzas smothered in sauce or cheese, and my fave is thick and doughy. These pies were not doughy, but crispy and not too cheesy or saucy. Surprisingly awesome, and I can definitely understand why they were packed! Slice out a wedge of time, though, because the pies took forevah! I love Buddy's pizza. Whether is is pick up or dine in, the food is great and so is the service. However, on 2 separate occasions now, I have had a LONG hair in my food. I'm not one to usually get bothered by this, but with it being the second time & the fact that the hair is towards the bottom after eating - it doesn't make my experience enjoyable. Again, great service and food typically, just have these problems. I have a picture of it should I need to send to the restaurant.

I went in there today for lunch. They had a Polish theme going on for the day with people dressed in traditional garb. Strange, I know, for a pizza joint. Supposedly they had a Polish pizza on the menu. I'm not sure what it consisted of though, because I didn't order it. I wish I had asked, just out of curiosity. I ordered their Motown pizza which had cheese, old world pepperoni, and bacon. The pizza is square, deep dish style. They are very generous with the toppings and cheese. It was cooked just right, not overcooked or undercooked. This is the type of pizza you eat with a knife and fork. The crust is crisp and not soggy with grease. A four square size is more than enough for one person. I ate three pieces and took the last one home for a snack some other day. If you like deep dish pizza, this is the place for you. The service is fast and the food is good.

Buddy's is my jam, so much so that the Detroit location catered my wedding and no I am not kidding. The 8 square Detroiter was pizza perfection. The antipasto salad is always amazing. Oh that Wisconsin brick cheese and the salad dressing that is so good it haunts me in Arizona. My only beef is that it is freezing at this location!!!

We were in search of a sit-down deep-dish-offering pizza joint on Saturday, and yelp led us here. There was ample parking, and even though it was busy, there are enough tables that we were seated right away. The menu has a ton of stuff on it, but they only say the pizza comes in 4sq or 8sq... I had no idea what that meant. I asked our server if they had deep dish pizza, she laughed and said "Yeah, that's our pizza", and walked away. Okay? So I'm assuming they're all deep dish, and I'll assume that 4sq is half the size of 8sq - thanks for chatting! Upon ordering a glass of wine and a beer, we were carded - that's fine, I've been over 21 for many years. I pulled out my ID and realized that I didn't have my current one! I had been carded the night before as well, so I could only assume that I'd left/lost it at the restaurant the night before. DANGIT! I told her of the mistake, but pointed out on my old voided ID that I was clearly of age, and she still refused to serve me. I get it, that's policy - but still crummy. When Joe's beer was delivered, I had a sip of his. She obviously saw and then avoided his empty glass the rest of the meal. We ordered the Sicilian pizza, and it arrived in about 20 minutes. I guess I'm just a little pickier when it comes to calling a pizza deep dish - this doesn't just mean a thick crust with a drizzle of chopped tomatoes on the top. I was very disappointed with the lack of sauce on the top of the pizza. That aside, for what this pizza was, it was delicious. There were ample toppings, tons of cheese and the flavor of the crust was great - I enjoyed every piece. I always appreciate when the parmesan and red pepper flake shakers are on the tables, and of course they were here. This place was good, LOUD and quick. I would return and sit on the patio - but I would know what kind of meal I was getting into this time.

The food here, like all Buddy's, is outstanding! The set up of the place is unique too. There's an upper level and a "lower level." I love eating outside during the nice days. Large patio with a nice covering. Many times I've had poor service here. And it's typically simple things that go missed. Example not bringing plates for salad. The bringing plates and not bringing utensils. Simple things that should be obvious but aren't done. I'll keep going here though. Love buddy's and this is the closest one.

I've never been a big fan of Buddy's pizza, but that might be more the style it is. Unless you get a specialty type pizza, it's kind of plain. I think they rely more on a combination of ingredients to flavor the pizza more than seasoning, so a pepperoni pizza is pretty bland. I personally would give the pizza 3 stars. That being said, everyone else I know raves about Buddy's. The times I've been to this location, it's been clean and the staff was friendly. It's a nice place.

So I'm at the Pizza place and I'm thinking there is no way I'll be blown away. Well surprise surprise I was blown away. We came for the whole grain crust cause most places that serve pizza don't have that option. Let me tell you they should just serve all their pizzas that way. It was unbelievably delicious. I wish there was one of these in my hometown. To top it all off they donate a portion of their profits I thin $10,000 every six months to animal rescues, and they form their bread into dog biscuits every night and donate them to the pet shelter. Awesome place to get pizza and support a business that supports the less privileged in our communities. Thanks Buddy's Pizza! I will be coming back.

Always great pizza here. Both my wife and I ordered 4 square pizza and we both enjoyed them. The crustiness of all the edges make a lot of tasty bites. My sister-in-law ordered the chicken parmesan and loved it. We all took some home for dinner later. Mary R. was a great server and got everything just right I've been eating Buddy's pizza since I was young. Although it was an east side hang out, as a west sider I would sneak into Hamtramck and enjoy.The only problem I now have with Buddy's is that they don't offer a thin crust pizza---I know they are famous for their deep dish square pizza, but as I aged I now have to limit my carb intake and thus limit my Buddy's.

Delicious!!! As a native Chicagoan I feel superior to all other regions in regards to pizza.... LOL! Seriously, great pizza! Big fan of the Detroit style! It has a similar vibe to the old school Chicago style found at Pequod's. First visit I found it to be a little too sweet for my tastes so subsequent times I've just ordered it light sauce and in heaven! Only suggestion, y'all need a 6pc pizza! In our group we all got individual 4pc ones and each guy said he wished for one more piece but that it'd ruin tomorrow's lunch :) Outside of Detroit look up Jets pizza. Not nearly as awesome but the closest you'll find to this style outside of the region.

The completely-full parking lot was a giveaway that there would be a long wait for our table; I circled the lot several times before pulling into a space on a recent Friday evening. Waiting guests were milling around outside despite the chill in the air and the small waiting area was stacked with hungry folks. I ordered my usual, a 4-slice Detroit-style, deep-dish, thick crust pizza with pineapples, Italian sausage, tomatoes and black olives. I say "usual" despite the fact that I ordered it incorrectly, twice. Thank goodness for the patient server and my good-natured friend. Despite the full dining room, our piping hot pizzas came out fairly quickly. As always, the thick and cheesy crust was well-seasoned and flavorful. I savored the first bite as much as the last, thoroughly enjoying the sweet pineapple, spicy sausage, and briny olives. We did not linger, being mindful of all the families (and sleepy kids) still waiting to eat late in the evening. However, I am already plotting my next visit - would it be too soon to return in two weeks?

The pizza is always cooked perfectly. My favorite is the BLT pizza (also great dipped in the ranch!) which isn't on the menu anymore, but you can still order it. They have a fried veggie (cauliflower, mushrooms, & zucchini) appetizer that is really good too. They also have an option to get your pizza half baked when you do carry out, so you can finish making at home to ensure a hot/fresh take out pizza. The Livonia location was very nicely decorated for Christmas. It was very warm and cozy. It took a good 30 minutes for our food to come out. Service was slow. I ordered the Ontario pizza. It was pretty good, not sure about the sauce. My daughter ordered the little bambino pizza. She thought it was the best she has ever had.

I am a HUGE fan of they call this "Detroit style" pizza. If only it were in Chicago! All we have that is comparable is Jet's...decent, but holy crap, if you're driving by the area on the way to Canada or something, you have to stop by. If you're a cheese lover, you will adore the crust/edges of this pizza. Awesome crunch with the cheese perfectly toasted - not burnt at all! My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. Now as a tip, by the time I got to the second slice, the center part of the pizza was getting slightly on the soggy side, not as crispy. If you're lucky enough to live close by and you order to go, I would recommend getting the whole pizza out and placing it on a cooling rack of some sort to make sure the bottom of the whole pizza gets to breathe so that it doesn't get soggy right away. We also ordered the veggie sampler appetizer - didn't care too much for the zucchini, but the fried mushrooms and cauliflower were delicious. Between myself and my husband, we got a small (4 piece/square) pizza and the appetizer. It was definitely more than enough to fill us up. If only this place were closer to me!!

My 521st visit to a Buddy's and still I tried something new. Really! Okay everybody knows about the pizza and salads. I have been here so many times I tend to get what I usually order. Not this time. Original Buddy Burger- Half pound of goodness! Fresh ground chuck with steak trimmings, chargrilled and served on a grilled bakery bun with lettuce, tomato and dill chips. This is one of the few places I had until this time never tried their burger. It's a cross between a good tasting pub burger and and a real good gourmet burger. The usual friendly staff at this location that I have come to love. Nice lunch stop when I'm in the area. Oh, they also have a Baby Buddy pizza if you're just in the mood for a two slice pizza.

This is my my second favorite favorite pizza, and since I was in the neighborhood I stopped in to get a fix. Being one who suffers greatly from tomato induced acid heartburn, I appreciate that the sauce is on top so I can scrape it off and dip in to it to control the amount eaten. I asked for the pepperoni on top, but it wasn't, but I let it go since it didn't take away from the amazing crust , cheese blend, and overall flavor. There is no "hype" just a really good recipe in dough, sauce, and cheese that deserves to be and for the most part is noticed.

Just had a conversation with someone about the lack of good pizza in Michigan. Shocked, I told them that they needed to try buddys. I told them that it was the best pizza in the Detroit area...I then paused....retracting my statement, I said that it was the best pizza I have ever had, period. Buddys Pizza is unique. I thought they forgot the pepperoni because they put the cheese over the pepperoni and you can't see it. The crust is thicker than most other pizzas and the sauce is absolutely wonderful. Its a mild seasoned tomatoey sauce that is never juicy. The cheese is baked and the slices are square. Their salads are huge and their hot peppers are edible without pain. The service is always friendly and efficient. We usually wait about 20 minutes for our food. The wait is worth it. I don't think it's the absolute best pizza around here, but it is definitely one of the best pizzas anywhere.

Went back today for another Robby Burger with Cheddar & bacon, with a side of potato wedges & a big crisp dill pickle. YUM!!! Our New Years Eve's used to consist of boozing and midnight smooches... until our daughter was born in 2007. Every year since then we have visited Buddy's for dinner on New Years eve, and even added onto our brood to make it a party of 4! I think we chose Buddy's because typically we have some kind of "weight-loss" inspired resolution and deep dish pizza is clearly not in the plan for the year ahead (or next month until we give up). I have been eating at Buddy's for ages. In fact, I think it is Buddy's where I first tried vegetables on my pizza - and to this day, their classic veggie pizza is what I typically order. I have also had some experience with their Florine Marks pizza - also very satisfying if you happen to be watching your waistline but really can't escape the craving for some cheesy, greasy goodness. If you are more of a meat lover, heads up, they put the pepperonis UNDER the cheese... serious flavor infusion!! Be not afraid of ordering something rather than pizza. Burgers, soup, and salads (we love the antipasto) are also all delicious. If you are into saving money, check their website and print the coupons out before you go to save a few bucks. Even though I pass out on the couch when I get home and don't make it til midnight after our annual NYE meal here... I wouldn't change it for the world!

Buddy's is one of the Detroit area's gems! They are known for their pizza, but I've yet to find something on the menu that I don't like. Their pizza has a thick, rich, buttery crust, but it's different than Chicago and New York style pizza entirely. The toppings are fresh and plentiful. This isn't your thin crust cardboard-box style pizza, so plan for only 1 or 2 pieces per person when ordering. The Buddy's Bread is also delicious, baked fresh and smothered with garlic butter and Parmesan. The chicken tenders are great, and do not appear to be a premade, freezer-to-deep-fryer creation like at most restaurants. And do not miss out on the Antipasto salad. Crisp romaine and iceberg lettuces, ham, salami, cheese, tomatoes, and vinaigrette--it seems simple enough, but Buddy's chooses the right ingredients for the perfect balance. Buddy's is great for a casual place to dine in, and convenient carryout is also available.

If you live in the Metro Detroit area you should be familiar with Buddy's. There are a couple of locations - we usually frequent this one in Livonia or the one in Dearborn. This one has more of a family atmosphere and not quite as many Tv's I believe. There is usually a wait on weekend evenings. The menu also has sandwiches and pasta but when we come it's for two things: an antipasto salad and an 8 piece square pizza (which gives us leftovers for dinner the next night). The pepperoni is placed under the cheese, which isn't my absolute favorite because who doesn't like those little charred pieces of the edge of the pepperoni? The Italian sausage is very good. And if you want something different the chicken fajita pizza served with a side of sour cream is a fun option. Tip: Check their website or the Entertainment book for coupons. Also, if you visit the Henry Ford Museum (and if you're living in Detroit you really should) the back of the ticket has a $4 off coupon and the Dearborn location is just down the street. Buddy's is the cream of the crop as far as Detroit Pizza Joints. Now living in St. Pete, Florida, I struggle to find pizza that can rock my socks off the way Buddy's does. Whenever I get pizza with a fellow Michigander down here, we reminisce about Buddy's the whole time. We always get a huge deep dish and family size antipasto salad. Its the bomb. Then a beer or soda depending on your preference. It can get pretty crowded sometimes, and then of course service will not be uber speedy, but the last few times I have been back to the Detroit area to visit (and of course get me some Buddy's), I have not had any problems. The staff has been friendly and knowledgeable. Uhg, I miss Buddy's!!!

what's up with buddy's lately. pizza was off for many months; now the last two visits the help is way off. last month the girl gave us the wrong bill, then the right one but without the discount. this month the girl writes down the wrong pizza, takes the wrong months coupon, forgets to take the menus, doesn't take the coupon off the bill. need i go on! there seems to be a high turnover rate of waitress' lately. maybe they need a new manager to straighten this whole situation out. it has made me drop a star because of all the hassle. the redeeming factor is that the pizza has been especially good the last couple of visits.

Such. Good. Pizza. Loved the concept of the Great Lakes pizzas, and was hoping I could try different ones, but one half of our group stuck with the traditional met lovers. So my friend and I just split the Lake Huron, basically a spinach and artichoke pizza on multigrain crust. So, so good. You still have yummy pizza without the feeling of heavy cheese and sauces. We were also there for our friend's birthday, and the waitress said she'd bring out a sundae, but we never got around to getting it. We were eating before going to see a show at Joey's Comedy Club, and she never came around again. Bummer. Sign up for their emails and get $5 off. The waitress also gave us other coupons. I found it kind of funny they were all for the exact same thing, which was like a small with one topping.

Nowadays, it's hard to please this former Detroiter-turned Chicagoan with pizza of any other type than deep dish... However, Buddy's Pizza has actually satisfied me with its depth of flavor in their more healthier options and does not leave me missing my usual guilty pleasure of a thick crust. For instance, order one of the latest menu items, the Great Lakes pizza varieties, and you can't go wrong. The combo of fresh veggies and (optional) multi-grain thin crust helped create a lighter twist on the classic party food. I LOVED the Lake Huron with its roasted artichoke and spinach. Plus, partial proceeds of these specific pizzas go towards conserving the lakes. On the other hand, some in my group had to order one of the more common choices for our second pizza - a meat deluxe, which did not nearly impress me as much. This one felt like it did not have enough sauce or seasoning. The antipasto salad tasted like the usual to me, and we were going to have a sundae for dessert but ran out of time because we were headed to a show and the server got bombarded by an even bigger party next to ours...We did have much better/consistent service when it wasn't so busy earlier in the night. All in all, this is a place I would love to revisit whenever I'm back in my hometown area!

This is my favorite deep dish square pizza. Hands down. Every chained pizza joint likes to do their own spin on the Detroit square deep dish classic without much success (In my opinion anyways...Jets looks like an ugly step child next to Buddy's). Everything is fresh, made to order, has the perfect amount of topping ratio, and is DELICIOUS. The pizza takes a bit of time (especially on a weekend) but it's worth the wait. Order one of their many appetizers (the antipasto salad is the awesome), get yourself a pitcher of beer, and bask in the awesomeness that is Buddy's.

Every time we go to Buddy's I wonder why we don't got more often (OK, I know the reason - I nix it when Ken puts it on the list... so it's my own darn fault). Expect to wait on weekend evenings. Heck, you may wait during the week too. The place is huge, with a parking lot the size you'd expect to find attached to a church, but you still may wait. We usually get the 8pc Sicilian (because we always have a $4 coupon for the 8pc). I don't always love deep dish pizza, but Buddy's is one of the few exceptions (Rogala's is another) - it's the crispy edges, plus perfect ratio of toppings to sauce to crust, that gets me going. This last time we also split the Individual-sized Antipasto salad (the only sure fire way I can make Ken eat salad is to put ham, salami and cheese on top) - note: individual size is plenty big enough for two to split if you're ordering any size pizza. Food at this location is consistently great. The restaurant is loud when full. There are TVs mounted in most corners, always on sports. Waitstaff is very pleasant and available.

Very good pies. Good minestrone as well. Other entree's...well I had the manicotti once. An expired Banquet TV dinner would have been far superior but the pizza is terrific. The staff is friendly too. Nice beer selection. The Livonia location has very difficult access for someone in a wheelchair. There is a long inclined ramp up into the place and everyone who is picking up carry-out's parks their car's smack dab in your way. I wrote to them about the carry out parking. They quickly responded apologetically, included some free coupons as well, but nothing has changed insofar as the parking in front of the access ramp. Oh well. They need to fix the door situation. Did I mention they have really good pizza? Yum!

Buddy's is the standard for deep dish pizza in Detroit. This is the location closest to Ann Arbor. Went here the other night and I think it's actually better than some of the others. The pizza crust is golden and crispy but not soaked in oil. Service was great. Everything else is standard quality Buddy's.

Oh Buddy's, how I love thee! So much variety! Personally I love my pizza on their multi-grain crust, and I ask for my salads to be sans iceberg, all wild greens please! Everything is so fresh, a great change from a lot of places. They have creatively themed pizzas named after the Detroit Zoo, Mackinac Bridge and other Michigan landmarks. They also have a nicely stocked bar with complimentary snacks (pretzels, popcorn, goldfish etc). The staff at this location is great! I have never received anything below excellent service. I just took my first trip to Detroit and was taken to Buddy's by some locals. I'm from Boston, we eat thin brick oven pizza, and don't have a whole lot to choose from in the deep dish variety. If you can find deep dish in Boston, it usually isn't very good. Enter Buddy's.. I fell in love. I got a simple pepperoni. It was crispy, the right amount of dough, to cheese, to sauce. Just perfect! The best part was, my dining companions left a few slices and I stole them to bring back to the hotel for breakfast. (I love left over pizza for breakfast!) The bad part was I left them in the hotel mini-fridge and forgot to take it on my way to the airport. The website says that they ship pizza across the US... maybe I will take them up on that.

i really don't understand people who rant and rave about how amazing buddy's pizza is! it's honestly not that great. i've been to this location only once but i've attended many other buddy's locations. don't get me wrong, the service here is great and all of the staff are friendly. however, buddy's pizza just has their own unique taste to their pizza and it's not necessarily a good one. i love deep dish square pizza and i've had better at local pizzerias than buddy's. the pizza is not gross, but it's just average. you could get better by just ordering from your local pizza place!

Since I live in Livonia, it's quite easy for me to satisfy my Buddy's fix. Unfortunately, however, the Livonia Buddy's is hit and miss. For example ... I grew up near the original Buddy's in Detroit. THAT pizza was perfect every time. Perfectly cooked, perfect amount of cheese, toppings, etc. Delish. For a while, to even get close to that perfect pizza at the Livonia location we ordered our pizzas "cooked well-done and with extra sauce." Livonia's pizzas are typicall undercooked, too doughy, and missing that signature crusty outer edge. Our pizza this past Friday was horrible. Waaaaaaaaay too much sauce that tasted like yesterday's marinara. Luckily, I work downtown, so I may have to order before I leave the office and pick up a pie from the Original store.

Buddy's rocks! They have soy cheese pizza! I'm lactose intolerant, so it's great that I can finally FINALLY order a pizza that the toppings don't fall off of! My sister and I went there and had a large veggie covered soy cheese pizza on multi-grain crust. It was great! I do prefer their regular crust to the multi-grain, but it was still amazing. I am so relieved that I can have pizza with "cheese" on it! Buddy's also offers a gluten-free crust.

Buddy's Pizza is the greatest pizza place of all time. I've eaten at all the classic Chicago pizza places, every other pizza place I've ever encountered, and order pizza at any restaurant that sells it. This is the best, and I've outlined the formula for a successful and delicious dinner. Normally, I review the atmosphere, service, pricing, portions, and all of that junk - these things are irrelevant at Buddy's (though we've gone there for many times for family gatherings - they are great for events, kids, and family's). The food is really all that matters. So here are the highlights: APPS: The antipasto is covered in a marginally excessive amount of dressing, and an obscene amount of ham, salami, and cubes of cheese. It's the very best I've ever had. You could probably ask for light dressing and still get it in full glory. PIZZA: The square pepperoni pizza will never, ever disappoint you. If it's your first time there, just take the advice and get pepperoni, I've had other toppings and been happy, but this is perfection. What actually makes this pizza different? A few things: crust and cheese. Crust - coated in enough butter to get beautifully browned and crispy. Buddy's converted me from a crust-trimmer to someone who will fight you for the corner piece. Nearest thing I've had to the crust is from Jet's pizza, but this is the next glorious step up. Cheese - the cheese is thick and delicious. It carries notes reminiscent of Saganaki (flaming cheese from your favorite greek restaurant) that set it completely apart from any other pizza I've had. Just order it and don't mess it up with anything other than pepperoni. DESSERT: Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puff is the perfect way to finish your dinner if you aren't sufficiently stuffed. If you haven't had anything from Sanders, this is a great place to try the carmel-hot-fudge-combo sauce and a great cream puff or sundae. Admittedly, the Livonia location is not my favorite - service is good, pizza is usually good but they aren't always as consistent in cooking the pizza to just the right temp. Dearborn and Warren are the very best, but you will still be happy no matter where you go!

Buddy's is a Detroit original that cannot be beat! When my husband and I were looking for a place to have lunch after our baby's baptism, there were a few places we considered- Mongolian BBQ and OIive Garden were just a few in consideration. Then we talked more about places that could accomodate a group as large as 30 but as small as 5 and not be an issue, and we wanted somewhere that had a great menu, with a lot of choices for everyone. We decided on Buddy's and one of the things that we liked the best was that they have a Gluten-Free items, as well as soy cheese for those who cannot eat dairy. Pretty awesome for a pizza joint! I think we also liked that you can order pizza and just let everyone dig in, or you can order individual salads, sandwiches, and dinners. To each his own! The sauce that they use is one-of-a-kind and has a sweetness to it that I can't quite describe with words. The chesse they use is delicious and gooey when you pull that first slice of heaven. My husband always orders the pizza with me (if it's just us we get the 4 slice delux) and gets mac-n-cheese as well... it's so good! When I'm there with a larger group, I like to order the Antipasto salad and Buddy Bread... it's just the right amount of food for a group to devour!! The best thing about Buddy's is that if you order too much food, you can take it home! There's nothing better than a cold slice of Buddy's in the morning!!

I finally took the husband to Buddy's. I am not a huge pizza fan myself except for when we go to Chicago so I had not been to Buddy's in over ten years. He loves the stuff but usually eats at his Toledo faves at least once a week at work so he is not as anxious to try the pizzas up here. This weekend though he decided it was time to give it a go. The place is nice inside. He loved the big screens showing Red Wing hockey, a good game to boot. Our waitress was slack jawed we were not familiar with Buddy's but seeing his Cubs shirt kinda got why not. She was very enthusiastic and sweet and we always appreciate that. We ended up going with the breadsticks and an eight square of the meaty pizza. I thought the breadsticks were a bit undercooked for my taste, super doughy but my husband likes that. The tomato sauce she brought with them was meh but then she decided to bring us out very good ranch dressing to try which was much happier. The pizza itself was great. Crispy edges, buttery but not really greasy. James wishes we would have gotten extra cheese but frankly I thought there was plenty. Good amount of tasty sauce in that it did not dominate but nicely coated between the dough and cheese. Pepperoni was properly buried under cheese, the rest of the meat was nicely crisped. I thought the pizza was a trifle overpriced for the size we got but I am not a pizza regular so I have no real clue about the going rate. Overall very nice though and worth a return.

I am very lucky to live near Buddy's, it is my go-to place for pizza (unless I need delivery). I have had their pizza and their lasagna several times and they have always been well cooked and full of flavor. The prices match the quality of the food, but they always have some sort of coupon out. You can print coupons online to bring in. Their soups are homemade. I have tried the Tortilla and the Chicken Noodle and both have been quite good. Sadly, no delivery, and their parking lot is often packed. They do have a separate entrance for pick-up, so that helps make a pick-up run quick.

Best Pizza around. I live in Ypsilanti and there is none nearby but I drive to Livonia just to get this amazing pizza. The crunchy crust and lots of cheese really makes it. I also love the sauce. I have also had the salad. The Harvest salad is the best! You might have to ask for it because its not on every menu. Nuts, cranberries, garden salad mix and more. Love it.

I can't decide if the square pizza is a plus or a minus. It has the inherent problem of corners. The corners are sauce and toppings free...which with any other pizza would be a big issue. But I have to agree with GQ magazine that the crust is so good that having a part of the pizza without sauce and toppings is not a big issue. The crust is that good! I usually get my pizza at Pizza Papalis when I am in Detroit...but I think Buddy's is better.

The best of the best! I left southeast Michigan long ago and in my experience there is no pizza like home, and no pizza like Buddys. Growing up around great pizza places like Buddys, Shields, Pizza Cutter and others, I never realized what I'd had, until I moved. People wake up! For all the time I've spent in NY and Chicago, TX and CA, GA and FL, CT and MA, etc. places where they have their own style or they claim its authentically 'someplace' (Italy, Chicago, wherever) - it simply does not compare. Sure my upbringing makes me a little biased but I can tell you when it comes to pizza change is only good when its temporary. So branching out and having pizza from any of these other styles is OK for a short time, but the best pizza truly comes from Michigan and Buddys is #1 on that list. And it's not just their pizza, you also have to get the exceptional antipasto for the full Buddys experience. Five stars is reserved for perfection and I would not offer it lightly, this is the real deal. As a business associate from out of state who I once introduced to Buddys while in town said, "Wow, I'm having a difficult time describing just how good this is."

My wife and I just had our first "Buddys experience" last Friday night, and I have no choice but to join in the chorus of high praise!! Buddys Pizza deserves all the accolades it has received! We went in an about 8pm and the place was jumpin' but not even the 25min wait dampened our visit! We had a fantastic server (Margarette) who was super fast and very helpful with her recommendations. For starters we had fried Ravioli (which is a lot lighter than it sounds) and a Greek salad with an amazing homemade dressing. An awesome beginning, but the best was yet to come.....THE PIZZA!! We got half Sicilian and half Margaretta and (I know its a big call) but hands down the best Pizza I have tasted in the USA!! The fresh ingredients and the saucey take Buddys Pizza to a whole new level for pizza! No doubt this is our new pizza hang out! :)

i would say 4.5 cuz i didn't really get a chance to become emotionally attached to this place while i was there. it was 3 adults and 3 kids. a 1, 3, and 5 yr old and us. so we were evenly matched. but they were still jumping, crawling, standing, walking, mumbling...doing all the things to distract 3 caretakers from lunch. staff was really nice. they all loved the little girls. decor is cool. it's pretty new, but they got a bunch of stuff to show they have been around a while. they got history. that always helps for fantastic food joints. we got three 4-square pizzas: cheese, pepperoni, and 1 with jalepeno, pep, green peppers, onions, and black olives. the dough is very soft, mushy, and chewy. just right. i bet after a few beers and a couple rounds of shots it would be almost magical. i did notice a small bar. a couple of cokes, a couple of juice boxes, a buddy bread (salty, warm, soft, garlicky, addictive), and an anti-pasta. the a-p was pretty darn good too. overall, the price was right too! 3 adults and 3 quarter-humanoids and it came to $47 with tax. i think i might have to come here every time i make a trip out here. Buddy, i want to get to know you better!

Yeaaahhhh Buddy's! I usually hit the Dearborn location but Livonia was on our way home from a cider mill jaunt so my friend and I popped in for a bite to fill up on some salty post doughnut and cider sugar binge. SUCH a good call. We had a super sweet coupon for half-off a 4 square so we ordered up the light pizza since we're both attempting to eat a bit healthier. A mix of full fat and fat free cheese cuts down on the calories without losing the flavor. It came topped with spinach and mushrooms (sans tomatoes for my tomato loathing friend) and it was quite tasty. The crust is the same delicious Buddy's crust so I honestly would have never known that it was a reduced cal pizza if I wasn't told. But they do have a multi-grain crust should you desire and they even offer a gluten free menu for all gluten-sensitive folks out there. Love that they offer both. It can be hard and somewhat alienating to go out to eat if you've got dietary restrictions so I'm glad Buddy's is mindful and accommodating of that. Oh, and if you're not feeling like pizza they've got some pasta and sandwiches on the menu as well. Can't speak to those, though, since I'm always zeroing in on the 'za! So! We split the pizza and a tossed salad and we had a most excellent and filling meal. The perfect antidote to the cider sugar-binge shakes. The wait can be a bit of a bear but they do have a bar seating if you want to get a drink while you wait. If you're starving they offer some goldfish crackers to tied you over. And outdoor patio seating if it's warm out decreases the wait time. Lots of TVs around should you want to catch the game (isn't there always a game on?). I made note of this because we had a friend cancel on us because he wanted to watch the Red Wings' game. Little did he know he could have watched the game AND eaten some kick ass pizza with two righteous ladies if he had come on out.

YUM! A Detroit classic. Must have it each time I come back "home" to see mom. Any of the pizzas are great but especially the margarita. Don't forget an antipasto salad and Buddy bread. YUM!

Buddy's is a classic with a lot of metro Detroiters, including my husband's family. This is a popular gathering point for birthdays and other celebrations. We always get the antipasto salad (that they're willing to prepare without ham for me) and a couple pizzas, along with beers and sodas. As busy as the parking lot frequently looks, I don't think we've ever had to wait more than a couple minutes for a table. Some nights there are special events, like wandering clowns making balloon animals. One time when we were there, some clowns were meeting that weren't even in costume, and they still brought my daughter a balloon animal. I've used their carryout on the way home from work before too. It's not quite as friendly as inside the restaurant, but it gets the job done.

We're from DC, lived in NYC and we've had a lot of pizza in a lot of places worldwide, and Buddy's is one of the best. Great flavor, great crust, great cheese that bubbles up on the edges of the pie. Both the original sauce and tomato basil sauce are great. Only problem is overeating it! If you're in the area, DEFINITELY eat at Buddy's.

Been going to/picking up from this place for at least 25 years. Love the pizza and the salads. The Ice Cream Drinks are great. However, lately, we have noticed that they are starting to skimp on the salads. The antipasto salad used to be bigger, and they made it smaller a couple years ago. Now they seem to be limiting the cheese and meat that the put on top, and the tomatoes seem to be getting more scarce. Considering the price, they really shouldn't need to skimp. $27 for a pizza and salad at carry out is plenty of money for them to provide what they used to provide. We will still go, but maybe a little less often.

As a Gluten intolerant person, one of the many things I have come to miss eating is pizza. When I heard that this place in Livonia had an entire menu dedicated to gluten free pizza, I had to check it out. I've been to Buddy's twice now, and it seems that regardless of the time I go it is always PACKED with people. People eating, people waiting, people at the bar. - you can barely walk in the door. I recommend waiting at the bar if possible, so you don't get trampled near the doorway. Plus you can pay for your drink there and bring it over to your table later. They make their cherry coke's with grenadine for an added delicious factor. I must say the gluten free pizza is DIVINE. You would never be able to tell it was gluten free! Often times gluten free crust just crumbles in your hand - or it has a weird texture - but they definitely know how to do it right at Buddy's. Plus you can choose from different styles of pizza, so you aren't just stuck with the basics. The sides are decent but nothing extraordinary. The overwhelming atmosphere is a bit much, but I can brave the masses every once in awhile to get some delicious pizza. I definitely recommend it for the gluten-intolerant.

I just had the new multi-grain crust and I think I may never get the regular crust again. This was good! It was a bit thinner than the white and it had a good crunch and flavor to it. I was expecting it to be a really strong grain flavor like Amichi's wheat crust or something but it wasn't overpowering or overly "healthy" at all. In fact I don't know if it has any more/or less heath benefits than the white - all I know is it's good and I'll be having it again. Oh yeah they have excellent Ranch too! :)

Last Friday, when every other place was packed to the gills (Playoffs!) we found ourselves headed to Buddy's. Luckily we were able to get a seat and prompt service. We tried the Detroiter pizza - it was fantastic. Nothing too elaborate...it had a basil tomato sauce with pepperoni and brick cheese, then topped with parmesan and baked. Simple but oh-so-good. I'd highly recommend it. It's nice to have a place where you can rely on getting a seat and consistent food. Yay for Buddy's.

Fuck Yeah! I had never been here before but took my ol' lady on a trip for some pizza. It was packed when we got there but after a short 10 minute wait the two of us got a nice quiet booth in the corner. I had a decent size Blue Moon, on draft, and we ordered some cheese & bacon fries to start. For the love of God, YES! They were amazing. I don't eat fries that often but these were amazing. Hot, salty and crunchy. With cheese and bacon to top it off. How can you not like that? Our waitress was nice enough and didn't bother us. She seemed pretty busy. I ordered my favorite pizza which is pepperoni, pineapple and jalapenos. Whenever I try a new pizza place that is my 'go to'. Well. It was fucking amazing. If Buddy was a real person I would high five that bitch. I got the 4 slice pizza and it was plenty to satisfy my fat ass. Not too saucy and not too cheesy. The toppings tasted fresh and the pizza was just straight up good. I have had Lou Malnati's which is famous nationwide. I personally like this pizza much better. In fact for only the second time in my Yelp life I am giving this place five stars. Thank you Buddy's. Thank you for making bomb ass pizza without the bullshit. USA! USA! USA!

This place still has the best hawaiian pizza I've ever had. Instead of marinara, they use sweet and sour!! I can't believe no one else has copied this yet. It's a nice sit down restaurant, but also has take out. They even serve beer, which is one of my favorite combinations on earth!! I always make it a priority to stop here when I go back to visit my family. They've always been consistant in taste and quality.

If your are going to eat pizza....Eat Buddy's! Still Detroit's Best. Watching your weight? Get the two slices and enjoy them with an individual size salad [enough for 3 people]. Don't deny yourself pizza forever. This is so worth it. I got the Florrine Mark with tons of veggies and low fat cheese. Couldn't have been more enjoyable. I forgot how wonderful it is.

Hands down, the best traditional pizza in the Detroit area. Thick, crispy, and you can actually taste ALL of the toppings! Couldn't be better. The "small" Greek salad is actually THREE platefuls! I come here once a month, by myself, and enjoy my meal immensely. The waitstaff is super friendly without being overbearing. Good for lunch, dinner, or a quick bite. Only three minutes from the heart of Livonia, and of course, there are branches all over town.

I'm waffling between three or four stars. Basically what you get in this place is pizza and Italian food that tends toward the blandly flavored and the heavily cheesed. If it's not an official option to get every menu item covered in red sauce and mozzarella, and baked, then it might as well be. The pizza is their high point. If you get the pizza with the regular sauce, it's disappointing and bland, but if you get the more spiced basil sauce that comes on the Detroiter (a pepperoni pizza, basically), it's much more interesting. If you like deep-dish pizza, the Detroiter is worth four or five stars. Their breadsticks, pizza with the bland sauce, and the rest of their Italian-themed entrees are squeaking by with three.

Great square pizza and a good selections of Draft beers . Buddy's has set the standard for other pizza parlors for years . they also have a full menu to choose from . This location can fill up very fast on Friday and saturday nights go early if you can .....It might take a tad longer to get your pizza but it will be worth it ....Enjoy....
