If you are out and about looking for some good Chinese buffet food, you might want to steer clear of this place. Here are the reasons why: 1. The food was lukewarm temperature and some was even chewy from sitting out for a period of time. Now I know they cannot keep buffet food piping hot all day but the effort at least has to be there. 2. There was nothing special about the food here. It was like your hohum every day type of Chinese buffet and nothing was there to make it special. 3. The service was less than spectacular seeming like they were more interested in rotating the tables rather than delivering good service and refilling our waters. 4. Over half of the bins were empty on he buffet line in the middle of lunch. The only thing I would have to say that was good was the 8 dollar or so lunch time price but other than that, I will pass the next time that we are looking for some good buffet food for the family. Oh and we all suffered from upset stomachs later in the day ... Not sure if that is because of Super Great Wall Buffet but it fits with our experience.

Staying at the Holiday Inn on business. Looking for Sushi, Chinese food, of course I have to look to yelp.com Looked at the Super Great Wall Buffet reviews good and bad and figured I would find something in between. It exceeded my expectations, from the fried wantons to the chicken on a stick. The Sushi chef was excellent!!! (hint: an extra tip proved worth while) Unfortunately for me, I ate so much I couldn't try the Hibachi.:-( My rating of 5 stars, as good as it gets is, I've eaten a numerous Chinese buffets and non had the quality of the Sushi and selection of food. I will be back at the SUPER GREAT Wall Buffet when in the South Portland area for business or pleasure.

This place rocks. They have an appetizer bar that includes peel and eat shrimp and other seafood items. They also have a hibachi grill where you can chose your own ingredients such as chicken, pork, beef, scallops, and shrimp, plus a wide array of vegetables. You can also find Crab legs, fish, craw dads, clams, oysters (both cooked and raw). There are also a variety of Chinese dishes you can have, as well as some American food items such as mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. They also will grill a steak for you, or you can cut some steak or ham from the buffet. I like coming here for the hibachi grill best, as well as a spinach dish, and ending the meal with some soft serve cream with an almond cookie. I travel an hour and a half to get here, and it's worth it!

went here twice, once with my mom for april vacae, and then with my dad in fifth grade for well, april vacae. ahahaha difference much? well, i'll rate from the recent april vacae, since well, it's the most RECENT. duh? nice food, a little dirty, nice dessert selection. my brother and i swore we found a dead koi fish and then he tried feeding them bits of fortune cookie. i couldnt help but laugh my loud obnoxious laugh and get him in trouble. but heck, that's what older sisters do.! (:

For starters... I love going to an All you can eat buffet; NO not because I am some fat slob who loads up his plate to the brim and then leaves half of it. I like a buffet because I am a very picky eater and a buffet usually allows me to find something I like. Hence while working up here in Maine I saw the reviews for this place and an average 3 stars. As I use reviews as a guide I decided to go check it out anyway... Well, obviously some people have no clue... while I rarely give out 5 stars I am doing it for this place. I could have eaten just the Sushi it was so FRESH...the eel was fantastic and the Hibachi Grill! The place had soo much fresh seafood, well it is in Maine... I didn't even get to try everything... To top it all of this place serves beer... nice Asian selection which is rare for an All you can eat place... I guess government not as corrupt in Maine as the rest of the country... liquor licences must be cheaper here. Overall a great and reasonable priced dining experience and I look forward to eating here again on my next trip to the area. This place moves into my number 2 spot on my review list for best All You Can eat Buffets. Locals I envy you for this place...

This place is disgusting. Food that was supposed to be hot was cold, old or not well made. Food that was supposed to be cold was warm and sushi items were poorly made and not kept in an area where they would stay the proper temperature. The staff basically ignored us by not retrieving empty plates, not refilling drinks and not checking in. It wasn't even busy the night we went. The waitress the had the gall to demand where her tip was, which we told her would be left on the table when we were done eating. Either way, will not be going back anytime soon. Was not worth the $61 for 3 adults and 1 child that went there

My family and I have been going to the Super Great Wall for many years now. We are definitely regulars here but this is just like every other Chinese buffet. The food isn't spectacular, but there is quite a variety. They have a sushi section and a hibachi section. Both are great. Food like pizza, tacos, and mac and cheese aren't that good. They lack taste and one bite is all it takes for you to stop eating. Their seafood on the other hand is good. Crab legs, mussels, oysters and clams are good. They have a section of fried food as well: crab rangoons, french fries, fried scallop, chicken nuggets, and etc. Their fried foods aren't that great especially the french fries and chicken nuggets they didn't taste at all. Their fried scallop and crab rangoons are good though. Dessert table is okay but I always go for their ice cream since it's way better and they have several selection for toppings. Staff here don't really like to communicate but they are friendly.

Occasionally a Chinese buffet tries to be something it's not. Sometimes you go to a Chinese buffet and you end up getting American food, just not very well done, or a lot of extraneous stuff like potato salad or Jell-O. This Chinese buffet is great because it has the perfect balance between Chinese food, other Asian food, and a little extras that everybody likes like softserve ice cream and french fries. We came with a large group and no advanced notice that the staff are friendly and able to accommodate us. The Chinese food was great there is a lot of variety, and everything was very fresh. The sushi bar was decent. And the salad bar has lots of fresh options for fruit and other veggies. All in all this place is a great experience.

Food is alright . Most of it is pretty greasy. The only food item that impressed me were there snow crabs they have.

Very average but, good for a quick bite. This is only my first choice because it is so close to where I live and there are no other Chinese buffets close by. The prices are definitely too high but, I suppose it could be worse. I've definitely had worse Chinese food.

Reliably decent if you are selective with what you put on your dish. I love dining in, but their take out boxes are also a stellar deal if you work in the area and want a quick, cheap lunch. I am extremely picky about where I eat and this is the only local buffet place I dare to eat at.....and it's definitely the only Chinese buffet on the planet where I dare to eat seafood. I've been eating at this restaurant for over a decade and have never had a problem with food poisoning (I even remember when they were located in the building directly across the street way back in the day). Of course, if something tastes weird, I just spit it into my napkin/don't eat it. I always watch the staff coming out of the kitchen and grab whatever hot, fresh items they're bringing out. I also pull my food from the bottom of each individual food tray because that's where the freshest food is going to be. My hands-down favorite items are the crab legs, chicken with peanut sauce drizzled on top, sweet sesame buns, and dim sum (located in the silver steam canisters near the soups -- a lot of people miss them). Lately, I've been taking my 2 year old son with me to eat dinner there and I really love that they try to group families into one area. It makes me feel so much more relaxed knowing my son can be loud and it's not a big deal because we're surrounded by a lot of other children who are being loud too. The staff really dote over the children too.

Really enjoyed lunch here. Visiting family from NM and just dropped in on it. Very pleasantly surprised by the huge selection and the Mongolian grill. Highly recommended.

Gross. Why did I dare come here lol this is one of the dirtiest and gross american chinese ever like i was better off eating dirt lol anyways... Staff is rude.. Too much msg... Just stay away and get thai at poms thai and if you really want chinese.. Go to Panda Express because there it is really hard to find chinese food that is actually edible. Boooo!!

Terrible is the only word that comes to mind. Eggs rolls had a taste similar to what I would imagine old garbage to taste like, half the trays were empty on a Saturday night, most items tasted old or cold, 15 dollars per person not including a soft drink... I could go on for a while. My bf ate white rice and macaroni and cheese only and I literally had to spit out food into my napkin because it was that bad.

Big selection of Chinese food. Word of wisdom, do not eat their seafood. It did not taste fresh. Also bring a towel. Management is too cheap to turn on the AC so expect a sweat buckets.

This place was not a good experience for me. The entire restaurant seemed dirty and had sticky floors and tables. The sushi tasted fishy as if it had been left out too long and started to go bad. Meat choices were all bland and rather fatty in nature. Vegetable choices all appeared colorless and limp. Service was terrible. I tried to ask a woman a question about one of the buffet choices and she looked at me and walked away without a word. We became so full so quickly we are convinced their food is loaded with msg. I highly recommend against going to this dive. There's much better food in the general area that costs far less and won't make you feel disgusting after consuming it.

Ok. So here is the deal folks, I am a certified Chinese Food Addict. If there was a 12 Step Program for people addicted to Chinese Food, I would have to take Step 1 and admit I am powerless over Chinese food. My close friends even call me a CBE, certified buffet expert. This place rocks!!! Here are some examples of what was on the buffet tonight: Crispy Roast a Duck, Roasted Lamb, Snow Crab, mussels, clams, oysters, Thai Noodles, peanut chicken and so much more. I travel to Portland Maine a few times a year and this is now officially in my rotation!

I absolutely love Chinese food, and personally feel that once we find a restaurant that serves amazing food, that restaurant either goes out of business or goes down-hill for whatever reason! May this NEVER be the case with this buffet restaurant, which appears to be the best Chinese food Buffet I have had in a long time! With their huge variety of delicious food selections and comfortable atmosphere, I definitely give this restaurant a thumbs up! =)

If you want unlimited amounts of tasty Asian and American food, this place is for you. This past weekend my dear cousin treated us to dinner at Great Wall Buffet at the request of one of the kids in the group. It's been many years since I've been and to be honest, I didn't expect to like it as much as I used to; I was pleasantly surprised. Six or seven buffet sections containing Chinese (General Tso's chicken, salt and pepper shrimp, egg rolls) and American food (mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, carve your own steak or ham, salmon, pasta), a Japanese section with sushi selections and a sushi chef, a fried food bar, as well as a dessert section (cakes, cookies, soft serve ice creams, fresh fruits) can be found in the middle of the restaurant. There was a huge variety of food! I loved the black bean and garlic sauce oysters, clams and mussels both in an Asian flavored sauces, the mixed vegetables that had large pieces of eggplant, the cooked sushi rolls (I was only daring enough to try one piece of raw; it is a buffet after all), boneless spareribs, crab rangoon, and vanilla soft serve ice cream with crushed oreo sprinkled on top. Others in the group loved the lamb and Alaskan crab legs. The veggie lo mein was lacking in flavor as was the fried rice, but white rice was also available which was a nice accompaniment to the more flavorful dishes. Squid dish had nice flavor but the squid itself was rubbery in texture, chewier than I expected. The carrot cake I tried was okay, but the frosting was not cream cheese and that was little disappointing. I barely had any of the raw items, such as the clams and oysters, but my cousins did and they enjoyed them. I was also not brave enough try much of the raw sushi but family members did and they liked it. The one piece I had tasted ok and I survived it without incident. Glad to see the Great Wall is still doing well after all these years. I had a nice time with family here. It is unlikely that it will ever be my first choice for a meal, but if the people I am with want to go I would gladly join.

As you can see from my husband's review (Sam S.) this is a traditional stop for us. My dad LOVES raw bars. My husband LOVES having more food choices than a normal human should ever need. They both LOVE being as cheap as possible. I'm fairly selective about what I eat though. There are good options, but not enough for my tastes and not enough healthy choices. My fav thing about this place is the ice cream machine though. It has a flavor selection to pick from. I'm a sweets fan for sure. I go mostly b/c my men like it so much. :)

I used to think this was the most amazing buffet ever, after I ate here, I now think otherwise. Food was average. Service was ok, even though they stared at us our entire eating experience. They have sushi, greasy chinese food and some bootleg american. The crab legs are salty and looking at the raw bar makes me want to throw up. The ice cream is dairy free... Not tasty at all. Go here if you are looking to substitute for an enema. You can kill two birds with one stone. Full tummy, powerful movement. Go to minami for an extra eight bucks instead.

Came in on a Sunday, so it was $14 per adult. Having said that, it was well worth the price. They have a great selection of food (all the stereotypical Chines food, sushi, steak, and seafood = fresh and cooked). The teriyaki chicken, cooked in the style of BBQ Pork, was especially tasty. It was probably the best thing I've ever eaten at a buffet of any type. The steak was medium rare, so no complaints of dryness from me. I didn't try any if the desserts, but they have plenty of good-looking pastries. They also have ice cream, and fruit for the health conscious. As for the non-food stuff...the service was pretty prompt despite there being a lot (half capacity) people here. It was noisy since there was a lot of Asians (and we talk a lot and loud), but that comes with the territory of a Chinese buffet. The bathrooms were really clean too! You know what they say, if there isn't a clean bathroom, what makes you think the food is clean. Luckily, this wasn't a problem. Their booths were cushioned and super comfortable, so people tired from sitting all day won't mine coming here after a long day. Finally, there's FREE Wi-Fi! I'm writing this review right now in the restaurant. Overall, it was a great lunch and I definitely recommend this buffet! If I'm ever back in Portland, ME, or if you're traveling/love near there, be sure to check this place out.

I've been here many times and the food is consistently good and well worth the price. The personnel are both friendly and efficient and I give special commendation to the sushi chef.

I cannot believe I ate here.... even more so cannot believe I liked it! It was surprisingly good, and the food was regularly being replaced, so it was nice to know they (seem to) care about the quality/freshness of the food. It is a little pricey for what it is $12.99 for dinner is a bit much for what they offer IMO, especially since it's the same exact food as their $7.99 lunch, so go early and save a few $$.

Another one shot chance, we stopped by very late on a snowy Christmas evening on our honeymoon (we got married Christmas eve) since nothing else appeared to be open. Lively and appearing to be popular, it was an extremely comfortable setting and regardless of the food quality, I can't help but recall how happy everyone seemed to be there! A welcome change from the extremely depressing ambiance of most buffets in 'lil Rhody. BUT. ...the food was good. Great even! Huge selection, everything was kept fresh, the trays were changed out often and I didn't find a single stall, stringy or sickly item in the bunch. There was an entire spread dedicated to American food as well. Charlie tried a couple tasties from their raw bar & happily did not end up in an emergency room. Service was fantastic and the price was right even on a holiday night. -Really- fantastic. Since Portland is one of our favourite places to visit, I'll definitely dine here again in the future.

Food quality has gone down the last 3 times I went there. Steam fish was under cook and crab leg taste like it was 2 days old. I hope they fix this.

Truly awful from the cold crab rangoons and spare ribs to the indelible orange chicken to the stale, tasteless pastries. Tried several dishes hoping the next would be better. It wasn't. Don't eat here.

This Chinese buffet is pretty good. The dinner buffet offers a good selection of tasty food including the popular Chinese dishes, vegetables, dim sum, seafood (oysters, clams, mussels, crab legs, crawfish, shrimp), pizza, make your own tacos, carved ham, roast beef, sushi, hibachi grill, soups, salads, desserts (mini cakes, cookies, soft serve ice cream (2 machines), apple pie, and slices of cheesecake & chocolate cream pie from the glass cooler) and much more. The place was very busy when I was here for dinner. The service was good with refills on soda and clearing of used dishes between buffet trips. The prices for this buffet seem higher than other Chinese buffets, but it's all about the quality offerings such as the seafood reflected in the prices. The buffet prices (as of 06/2008) are: Lunch (Mon-Fri 11AM-4:30PM): Adults$7.49/Children $2.99(3-5)/$3.99(6-7)/$5.99(8-10) Dinner (Mon-Sat 4:30PM-Close, Sunday All Day): Adults$12.49/Children $4.49(3-5)/$6.49(6-7)/$8.49(8-10) Saturday Lunch (11AM-4:30PM): Adults$8.49/Children $3.99(3-5)/$4.99(6-7)/$6.99(8-10) Drinks NOT included and no personal checks accepted. Since the hotel was pretty much right next door, I ended up eating here three days in a row. The food is very good! Not the biggest choices, but certainly big enough. The Hibachi grill is very good also.

No teriyaki beef, only ham fried rice, and just way to much American cuisine. Will pass in the future.

I love this place. I've been with my wife every time we've visited her family in South Portland. I look forward to it each time we come up here! Huge selection of food, much of it very good (one of the great things about a buffet is if something sucks, there's about 48 other things to have instead), fairly high turnover with the food trays, good service, tender carved meats, a guy at the hibachi who'll make whatever you ask (I keep forgetting I want to try it, though) and a raw bar my father-in-law loves. Very good price (satisfyingly low for a good buffet place). Oh, and there's a freakin' koi pond in the restaurant. Haven't really found it's equal in NYC, but I'm looking. On our holiday trip this year we tried the new Japanese buffet place mall-side instead (Minami), but next time I think we'll be back to Super Great Wall Buffet. You can tell it's going to be good from the first two adjectives in the name!

It is what it is. Lots of selection. Good desserts, decent food for buffet style (means it may have been sitting awhile), good service. I was surprised to spend $10 plus tip for buffet and drink. That's a bit pricey compared to other lunch buffets. Food has stayed with me all day - which is not a plus. Enjoyed it initially.

For those that know me, I'm a man who loves a good Chinese buffet. And as far as those in the state of Maine, Super Great Wall is arguably the best. Whenever I visit friends in Portland for the weekend, we generally make it a point to come here. The outside appears deceivingly small, since it's located in one of the strip malls around the mall shopping area. Once you're inside, you can see that it's anything but. It houses a massive buffet with a selection of popular, and not to mention savory, Americanized Chinese dishes--along with tons of deserts and a few American options as well. If my stomach didn't limit my intake of food, I honestly think I could sit here all day and do nothing but eat--it's so tasty. And with the number of options, that's certainly would be a plausible scenario, if I didn't have to worry about bursting. One thing that might worry people about Super Great Wall is that it's located directly next to The Doghouse, a dog supply and grooming store. While I've never eaten dog, I'm fairly certain there's no cause for alarm here. However, if they are serving up unconventional animals in the guise of chicken, beef, and pork, I'd have to say that I'm disappointed I didn't eat them sooner. Super Great Wall is really that delicious.

I have a crappy chinese buffet by my house in Seattle...but this place was not half bad. Sushi was decent for a buffet...they had salmon, tuna, and unagi nigiri plus rolls. They had crab that was ok, raw and cooked oysters that was ok, and steamed chinese fish that was ok. All for a reasonable price.....oh ya, they also have tsing tao beer

This place is pretty good for a buffet. They have king crab legs, a hibatchi, sushi, and raw bar that includes oysters. I've had the sushi and oysters, and I don't have any worms that I know of yet! Thumbs up! And they have your usual stuff like wings, spareribs, snowpeas...etc. As far as desserts they have fresh fruit, a soft serve machine, slices of cake and cheesecakes, cookies and pastries.

Ok, this is the cheesiness in me. When I make that trek to the northern country to see the parentals, the one place we go to when we go out to eat is the SGWB or just "buff- ay" as the old school asian parents call it. Buffets were always as a treat going out cause 1) yeah, they're not healthy, but dang, there's a lot of food. 2) It's all you can eat! And with my old school parents, if they can pay one price and get all you can eat... heck, what more can you ask for! Food is the usual fast food chinese take-out dishes, pork friend rice, lo-mein, but I have to admit, they do have a vast selection beyond that. Everything from spicy, salted shrimp to pizza and roast beef. Yes, they go beyond the take-out counter. Lots of mini desserts and even 2 soft-serve ice cream makers. Food is greasy, but there's something fun about going up and selecting food from 5 different counters and seeing how much you CAN eat. Yeah, if you're on a strict diet, stay FAR away, if you're expecting tres chic cuisine, stay even farther. But if you're looking for a place where you can get pretty good service, lots of different variety with a colorful atmosphere and even a koi fish pond in the middle of it all and you can bring you're nieces and nephew ranging from age 7 to 3, this is your place!

I cannot believe I ate here.... even more so cannot believe I liked it! It was surprisingly good, and the food was regularly being replaced, so it was nice to know they (seem to) care about the quality/freshness of the food. It is a little pricey for what it is $12.99 for dinner is a bit much for what they offer IMO, especially since it's the same exact food as their $7.99 lunch, so go early and save a few $$.

went here twice, once with my mom for april vacae, and then with my dad in fifth grade for well, april vacae. ahahaha difference much? well, i'll rate from the recent april vacae, since well, it's the most RECENT. duh? nice food, a little dirty, nice dessert selection. my brother and i swore we found a dead koi fish and then he tried feeding them bits of fortune cookie. i couldnt help but laugh my loud obnoxious laugh and get him in trouble. but heck, that's what older sisters do.!

Boooo!!

Wow, there is almost too much food at this place! You cannot beat this place for sheer variety, and of course volume. My favorite buffet in the entire state of Maine!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
