The outdoor patio is fantastic. Perfect for a meal or drink on a summer evening. Great service, and off the beaten path enough it is pretty quiet. Especially nice during tourist season.

By far the best food and service of our trip to Portland. The filet was cooked to perfection. The special of scallops on lobster polenta was a hit as well. The bread is a cranberry wheat that was just right. Only regret is that we were too full for dessert.

I wish I could give this a 3.5, but sadly I can't, so I rounded up. It was my boyfriend's an my first stop during Restaurant Week 2013 (or as I have now dubbed it, "Stretchy Leggings Week.") first of all, our service was great. We must have lucky out. Our server was knowledgable, helpful, and got us our wine pairings prior to each course. I also loved the atmosphere. I told my boyfriend that if I ever open a restaurant (I won't,) I will buy those chairs. We got the duck confit appy... I did not like it. I thought that maybe I was just unfamiliar with the "confit" part of it, but I'm now remembering that I've had it at several other places and loved it. The entree, however, the hangar steak, was goooo-ood. It was cooked perfectly to order and was extremely flavorful. I hope they have something similar on the regular menu. After the meal, we of course went to the Armory, which I visited another 2 times later in the week (I was on vacation.) if you've never, been, you have to try it.

My partner and I have eaten here many times and enjoyed it. I made a reservation through OpenTable for my birthday. When we arrived we were told the inside dining room was closed and they only had dining outside. One would have thought that the restaurant would notify people of this change of service! It was in the low 60's! Too cold for dining outside!!!! We chose to go elsewhere. Not everyone enjoys sitting in the cold and eating cold food. Get it together and notify people of changes in your service!

Well I'll be damned. I was expecting a quick meal at a mediocre hotel restaurant before going to meet a coworker for drinks. I was NOT expecting a luscious three course meal for a paltry $25 with fabulous service and a fireside table. I started with a garden salad while eyeing the duck confit tater tots and heavenly house smoked salmon board. Self control luckily prevailed. I continued with the cedar planked Haddock with Maine lobster, forest mushrooms and lemon caper beurre blanc. HOLY CRAP, YOU GUYS. That dish was $27 alone but not in my awesome prix fix deal!! The meal concluded with a refreshing tart apple-moscato sorbet, which rounded out the rich entree nicely. It was so lovely to dine alone (with my kindle) by the fireplace - I should do that more often. If I'm back in Portland any time soon, I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again!

The least enjoyable visit of our six or so in as many years. If the manager is reading this, don't open the main restaurant if you have a function (or two) downstairs, because it does more harm than good. Everyone was left waiting half an hour for each course, and my $38 tenderloin, which I'd asked to be cooked medium-rare, was barely pink. The second aggravating event was that the wait staff, at 9.00pm, started to clear the unoccupied tables in preparation for breakfast. Not noisy at all. The waiter that wasn't ours should practice waiting until he's out of ear shot before either telling the busboy that he was "doing HIS job" after having to refill some water glasses, or saying to the host "he can start the turnover, right?" One of our three glasses of wine was complimentary, due to the slowness of the kitchen, which was appreciated, but didn't mask a disappointing evening.

There are a lot of restaurant options in Portland, and unfortunately, this one isn't one of my favorites. I wanted to like it, because it's located in the hotel where I usually stay (the Portland Regency), making it quite convenient. I started off with the Piedmontese carpaccio, made from their own specially raised beef; I expected more. Perhaps the flavors were too subtle for my palate. For my main course, I had the butternut squash risotto, and this was better. It certainly wasn't a BAD meal, and the service was fine, but with so many other options to choose from, this isn't a stop I'd recommend. I returned another time for brunch, and it was good, but nothing spectacular. I ordered the bagel with salmon, onions, and capers, and they forgot the bagel. :)

Having had an expensive noodle dinner a little earlier, my companion wanted a glass of wine and I wanted something chocolate. Thankfully I had in memory my "Dessert in Portland Maine" list because my pocket computer was restrained in the glove compartment. While walking from the west end, we stopped in at my first choice to discover only bits of chocolate rather than whole desserts on the menu which is fitting for the menu at this place, so we moved on. Twenty Milk Street was next in my mind having read several positive reviews and knowing a few folks that had been here several years ago. It was the perfect choice for the request of this evening, though it was a bit stuffier than I thought it would be. The Chocolate Molten Lava Cake was exactly what I wanted. There was a little confusion between the hostess, our server Jake (2 weeks on the job) and another server apparently with more experience, over the wine list. I wanted a dessert wine, specifically a tawny port, and it wasn't on the menu but apparently does exist in the house. The only dessert wine on the wine list was Jackson Triggs which I love but didn't think was a good fit with the chocolate dessert. My companion ordered TWO desserts and my directive on the wine choice towards The Diving Rod for an oaky red. We were delighted en totale with all things delivered to our table including the tea. I'm going to cut the server some slack because he was new to this place, but he's not a new server so I thought I should not have had to ask for napkins or ask twice for cream. The desserts were delicious, the wines were correct, and service was polite and timely, the prices appropriate for the setting, and we were seated next to the fireplace which fit the romantic feel of this experience. Altogether B+ from this reviewer.

While the food was tasty ( dined here for breakfast and dinner) the dining room was so warm it marred the experience. However the lobster stew at dinner and the eggs Benedict ar brunch were both delicious.

The service here stinks! The food is good but if I am going to spend $140.00 for two people, I expect better service. Mentioned that it was our anniversary and they did nothing to celebrate it. Also, we made a reservation and they didn't have us on the list! I'd take your money elsewhere!

Service was great, atmosphere was good but completely empty and my drink was fantastic. However, everything was so greatly over priced given the quality. My entree of chicken and shrimp was amongst the driest I've ever had, simply terrible. I couldn't even get through more than two bites of the chicken. With a total of three people and a $50 gift certificate we still dished out $120. Oh but I forgot to mention, we did order the fried calamari for an appetizer. I honestly can't believe that's allowed to be served in Portland, Maine! Terrible. I will never return, regardless of this second $50 gift certificate.

My husband and I met two of our friends for dinner at 20 Milk Street last night. Although it is a more expensive restaurant than we would usually go to, we had a $50 gift certificate. When we were first seated, it was so quiet that we were joking that we were going to get kicked out for being too loud and inappropriate. I really enjoyed my whole meal, which started with a glass of Cristalino champagne. The waiter brought some warm, delicious cranberry bread, made in-house by their pastry chef. For appetizers we got the crab cakes and the pickle platter, both yummy. I was intrigued by the pickle platter, as I've never seen that as an appetizer anywhere else, and I love pickles. They were well-presented on a long plate, all made in-house, and included several types of pickled cucumber, beets, and green beans. Instead of an entrée, I had lobster stew and the Nicoise salad. The lobster stew had large, succulent pieces of lobster in it, and was delicious, and the salad was beautiful, piled high in the middle of the plate, with very crunchy, fresh vegetables and just the right amount of salt and dressing; very flavorful! And then dessert was great. I loved my pear crisp with ginger ice cream!! I noticed that they had black pepper ice cream on the menu, which sounded interesting, but I didn't try it. Others at the table had molten chocolate cake and ricotta cheesecake. The ricotta cheesecake was incredible, too!! The only thing is, I felt a bit guilty enjoying my meal so much, because one of our dinner companions hated her meal, and couldn't even eat it. It was a chicken and shrimp dish, which she said was really bland, and the tomato sauce watery and flavorless. She didn't eat at all, and chose to say something to the waiter. He apologized and said that they had just changed their menu, and it was helpful for them that she had complained, because they would be able to tweak the menu. They took her meal off the bill. The waiter also reversed the steaks of our two male companions, giving the medium-rare to the person who wanted medium, and vice versa. They were a little disappointed by that, but the waiter did give the men at our table a few free beers to make reparation.

I found this a fine breakfast dining experience. My beau had the Lobster Benedict, the eggs were beautifully poached, with delicate hollandaise and high quality slices of tomato. I had the oatmeal, which seemed like Scottish cut, and were served with milk, brown sugar and pecans. Everything was delicious, and Heidi, our server, was very attentive and nice.

I'm surprised by some of the bad reviews for Twenty Milk Street. I was staying at the Regency with my mom and it was a rainy morning so we went downstairs for breakfast. We were greeted by the nicest man who told us we would have a great breakfast and he was glad we chose them. He sat us at the cutest little table right by the window. I had an omelette and fruit and my mother had the fried eggs and sausage and everything was absolutely delicious. The only reason they are not getting five stars is because they don't allow substitutions so even though I didn't want potatoes and toast they wouldn't let me substitute that for fruit so my breakfast was a little too pricey. The food was great and the staff was great so I would definitely go back again.

Like a couple of the other reviewers, I went to Twenty Milk Street during Maine Restaurant Week. It was Friday -- the last day, I think. Our food was very good, and I liked the ambiance (my husband and I had a little table overlooking the hotel's courtyard/circular drive), but the service was bad. After we sat, our server said she would bring us bread. Ten minutes later she hadn't returned, so we flagged down the hostess and asked her to bring us some bread. I ordered the wine pairings for the three-course meal, and for two of the three courses my wine didn't arrive until I was halfway through my food -- and one of those times I again had to flag down the hostess to get it. The server didn't seem to know much about the food or wine, and she had only a couple of other tables by that point in the night, so it's not like she was overwhelmed; at least, she shouldn't have been. The food here is expensive, and even as good as it is, I'm not willing to pay those kinds of prices for that sort of service. I don't have any desire to return to Twenty Milk Street when there are so many excellent restaurants in Portland.

This is one of the best restaurants for fine dining that I have been to. The service is exceptionally good. The beef on the menu comes from their own farm and is superb. After my wife said that the filet mignon was rthe best ever, I tasted it (I'm not a steak fan). It tasted the way steak should. Thscallops over Maine shrimp risotto was excellent. The desserts were great. I had a Marjaline, a chocolate concoction featuring mousse, chocolate and a thin chocolate crust. Wow! Before I forget, they serve an appetizer consisting of melted Brie in a phyllo crust. Magnificent! This is not inexpensive but well worth the price.

Disappointing. Dinner was acceptable, but the glass of wine was tiny, the service was slow and not very professional, no bread or water for the table. For the price and for Portland you can do a lot better than this place.

Went here for restaurant week and started with cocktail in the armory which was not as good as I was hoping. The restaurant is very nice and comfortable. A little uppity for me though. We got fresh baked cranberry bread that was really good. My app of bacon wrapped steak tip and gorgonzola stuffed jalapenos were awesome. Entree of flat iron steak with mushrooms was good but not great. Tres leche cake for desert with pineapple ice cream was great. I tried my friends grilled radichio and something or other risotto and it was great. Overall very good but I like a slightly more casual environment. Also they have valet parking which I didn't know.
