I love this place! The staff are so kind and welcoming! I am always greeted with a "welcome back" and a big smile. The food is also really yummy. I love their breakfast sandwiches, but I wish they would start breakfast before 9am. For lunch, I love getting the falafel burger and adding a grilled egg! One of my favorite spots in town for a quick breakfast or lunch.

Pretty disappointed. Their "stewed lamb" gyro is definitely not stewed. It tastes pan-fried. It lacks Any seasoning. The highlight of the sigh is the yogurt. Sad.

Had a great falafel here today, warm soft pita, crispy falafel, could have had a little more sauce, though, but was good all-around. I also appreciate that they use local ingredients, and are fairly inexpensive.

I love stopping in at Spartan Grill in the morning on the way to work for one of their breakfast sandwiches, or at lunch for one of the best cheeseburgers you can find in Portland. They get their beef locally from Fresh Approach (meat market/grocery store in the West End). Most of their other products are local too, and reasonably priced. This is a nice place to take something to go, or sit for a while. There is plenty of reading material like local newspapers and even some books. The staff is always very friendly and the food is never disappointing.

I wanted to like this place but, alas, there was nothing to like. One time was all it took; I won't be back. I couldn't say it any better than Anya T. -- feel the same way -- I wouldn't even call what they make a falafel; it tasted like something left over from weeks before. Terrible tastes.

So yummy! I got the chicken ranch club gyro and was actually sad when it was all gone!! My mom had the Greek burger, delicious!!! We also shared a side of fries, but to be honest we didn't need them. The sandwiches were more than filling. I also love that they support other local businesses! The service here was also amazing! The owner chatted with us outside before we entered and then again to see if we enjoyed our choices. The cashier Virgina is very, very sweet and super helpful!!! I will definitely be back!!!!

Not sure what some of the negative reviews are about. I have been to this place at least a dozen times and every time I am more than satisfied. I have been around the Portland food scene and know there is a strong expectation for food standards and Spartan Grill certainly meets or beats it. I have tried a variety of offerings here and must say the Chicken Gyro is my favorite. The chicken is always juicy and well seasoned, the grilled pita wrap is fresh and tasty and the tzatziki sauce is some of the best I've had. Service is always friendly and quick.

A little something for everyone on the menu. Not a huge fan of their burgers, or at least not on the day I was there. The friendly counter person however, and the view out onto busy Monument Sqr. made for a pleasant lunchtime getaway free of the crowds of frequent the other near by eateries. Worth a try to decide for yourself.

I ordered the lamb gyro and some fries. The lamb was incredibly dry and bland, and the tzatziki sauce was watery and tasted more like mayo than the tang of yogurt and cucumber. The fries were ok, nothing to write home about. Skip this place unless you want overcooked, bland food. Have to revise review. I usually try to give a place a second chance, see if maybe it was just a bad day, and I was really in the mood for falafel. I stopped by one day at 2:15, they said that even though they are open until 5:30pm, they stop serving food at 2. Fine, whatever. Went back a few weeks later. I don't think I've ever regretted a meal purchase more. they used so much cumin as to overpower all other flavors of the entire sandwich, the falafel was soggy and not crispy, and instead of the usual green chickpea, it was a goopy white substance i could not identify, and could not eat. Stay far, far away from here.

This place is really great. The atmosphere is awesome, the food is delicious, and if you don't try the Maine Potato donuts you're truly missing out.

The Spartan Grill is right across the street from my office and I went in on a lark today seeking something different for lunch, but it won't be making it into my regular lunch time rotation. I had the Falafel. The falafel balls tasted and appeared to be nothing more than mashed up chick peas, which might not have mattered so much if the tzatziki hadn't been so incredibly bland. To pile on, the lettuce was bitter and that was the bad taste left in my mouth.

The only reason they are getting a two is because I've been there before *when i'm feeling too lazy to go all the way to Bard* and it wasn't that bad. If i'm feeling lazy, i'll just settle for what will do, which is this coffee. The other day was especially disappointing. I got their breakfast sandwich which was not just mediocre but almost inedible but I was really hungry so I managed it. There was almost no flavor (it had bacon, though very little, how is that possible?) and the english muffin wasn't toasted very well so when I went to eat it the steam from the foil made it straight up soggy. And the Latte....sooo disappointing. I've had them there before, and like i said they really weren't that bad but.... I could tell right away that the milk was scolded. The girl didn't use a thermometer (milk scolds at 180*) and from the pitch of the steaming noise...it was clear. She either couldn't tell *it's kind of obvious once you are comfortable with steaming* or she didn't care, which might also be the case. At any rate, by the time I got back to work ( a whole three minutes) there was a nice thick layer of scolded Milk boogie (as I like to call it) chillin on the top of what should have been my delicious milky caffeinated beverage for the morning. What's up guys? Get it together. However, perhaps breakfast is not their strong suit. I'll be trying their lunch, because i have heard that it's pretty good. I'll write a review then as well.

Stopped by the Spartan Grill for a quick lunch while vacationing near Portland. We had the falafel, chicken pita and gyro. The staff was very friendly. I'd suggest sticking to the gyro, everything else was unremarkable.
