Jordan's Snack Bar is my favorite place to get something to eat when I am on the run and don't want to get chain fast food. They do a great job with their fried seafood, grilled burgers, and the onion rings are thin and stringy, so delicious. Of course, the main reason I go there is for their crab roll. In my opinion it is the best around. One of the main reasons why is they only use FRESH crabmeat to make the crab roll. NEVER frozen. It makes a world of difference! When you walk up to the counter window to order, you pray to see that sign posted. "Fresh Crabmeat Today". The sign means you are gonna get a toasted bun loaded with perfect crabmeat. You don't see the sign, you arent going to be able to get a crab roll. Simple enough, right? So, my meal of choice there is always a crab roll, with a small side portion of fried scallops. Kind of pricey, but worth every penny!

I'd recommend having the lunch sized portion if you decide to order a seafood meal. Everyone in my group ordered fried clams and there was more than enough food for each of us in the lunch portion. The dinner sized meals supposedly come with twice the seafood and additionally are served with cole slaw (lunch comes with clams, fries, and a buttered roll). I believe the dinner portion would be more suitable for sharing, which would be economical since it is around $19 while the lunch is around $12. The fried clams were delicious. The tartar sauce was fairly heavy on the mayo with minimal relish bits, so I'd say I've had better. The fries were decent as well as was the root beer. As mentioned, the portion was large and was a decent value for the price. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They actually have quite a compound on the site, with a playground, dining hall, and mini arcade in addition to the main kitchen building. There is a lot more than meets the eye from the street. The dining area was plain, yet rather clean for a roadside stand. I noticed workers tidying up the general area and wiping down tables when patrons left. The arcade has a jukebox, three pool tables, and various video games. It had kind of a "road house" vibe to it, with plywood walls. It was maintained but looked kind of shabby in a way that made me think you could have a lot of fun there if you were having a couple beers and the place was packed with bikers, which I believe it occasionally is.

I grew up eating Jordan's food and I make it a point to stop here whenever I'm in the area. They make the best fried clams I have ever eaten. I have tried fried clams from Florida to Maine and nowhere has come close to Jordan's. Their onion rings are awesome too!! Portions are decent, but the seafood prices can be a little steep. To me, it's so worth it!

My cousin used to work for Maine Shellfish and they were a supplier to Jordan's. He said that they had the cleanest kitchen in the area. That goes a long way with me. We have been going there for years and they are consistently good. We usually get the haddock sandwiches or haddock lunch. The fried clams are good, but I find that they are overcooked for my taste (too crispy). They have some good daily specials.

En route to a wedding in Bar Harbor after landing in Bangor, my family was all hankering for a Maine Lobster roll. We received the recommendation for Jordan's Snack Bar at the airport. The reviews here on Yelp seemed to be positive, so we checked it out. It's a snack bar and most likely good for ice creams, shakes and fried food--not so much specializing in Lobster rolls. We ordered and received a ticket with a number on it. Grub was then retrieved at another counter when called. Options for dining in were a hall set up with tables (which smelled like low tide) and picnic tables aside a little playground. Being a crisp, sunny day in October we opted for the picnic tables. The girls running the counter seemed annoyed with questions about the menu and acted even more compromised when asked for salt and ketchup. I value friendliness and service. There was none of that here the day we stopped. The lobster roll was very mediocre and at approximately $18 was the most expensive one I ended up having all weekend. The krinkle kut fries that came with the combo were good, but your typical Ore Ida taters tossed in a fryer. You can bet that we did not stop at Jordan's on the way back to the airport at the end of the weekend.

I stopped in for some Gifford's ice cream which you can't get near home. It was 60F yesterday but only 35F today. Because it was so cold the lines at Jordan's were short so it would be a quick scooping. Nope. I almost left without it but finally the teenager behind the counter emerged with my cone and I began second guessing getting ice cream at a takeout stand on a 30F degree day. Ice cream-good. Waiting - not so much.

This is a MUST STOP for a an ice cream or home-made milkshake on a warm summer day OR even a real meal a cool afternoon/evening. The fried seafood is fresh and incredibly tasty. Onion rings are sliced super thin... I love them! The burger baskets rock too. Love Jordan's!
(5)Joel H.
Awesome haddock, clams and onion rings! Great place...they even let us order 10 mins after closing! Best seafood in Maine.
(5)Dawn B.
This is a burgers, dogs, ice cream and fried seafood kind of place, with a walk-up order window like you might find at a county fair. Good food, decent portions, friendly atmosphere, and a favorite with locals. There's a playground out back, and lots of shady outdoor picnic tables (but bring insect repellent in the early summer), as well as an indoor video arcade and some indoor seating. The service is fairly quick. Recommended.

Known for so many things .. We enjoy the onion rings with haddock sandwiches, scallop rolls, lobster rolls or chowda! It's a great local place where dinner can be finished off with ice cream. Both inside and outside seating, kid and pet friendly and senior like it too. We stop here many times each summer for lunch and at least once for dinner.
(4)Ellie G.
Fun little snack bar spot for ice cream and fried goodness. We had the crab roll, delish. We had the fried fish sandwich, delish. We got chowdah, but it's just plain fish chowdah and was NOT delish. I love fish everything, but this was not edible. Ice cream treats looked yummy! Perfect spots in the back to sit outside and for the kiddos to run around.

Jordan's is the best! My family and I have been going to Jordan's for over 20 years, and I have great childhood memories eating here in the summertime. Fried clams, chicken fingers, and of course a soft-serve ice cream are winners.
(5)Donna Q.
I had the haddock sandwich with onion rings and both were awesome. Immaculate outside eating area as well as indoor seating. Nice play area for kids. Have stopped several times in the past and have yet to be disappointed.
(5)Rebecca T.
Food was mediocre. I expected better based on the reputation and price, but what really got me was the customer service. The girl at the pickup window was rude to my friend and I as we got our food. She was barking at us for receipts. I probably won't be returning. There are plenty of places to get a lobster roll in the area, and the management should keep that in mind when hiring employees to work with the public. Customer service is everything.
(2)Izzy W.
Really good food, service was pretty fast and kind people were working. Ice cream was really good, especially the milkshakes
(4)Paul B.
Great place good food!! and very clean!! Would definitely go again when in Bar Harbor
(4)Robert M.
I have always loved Jordan's snack bar. Excellent scallops (my regular). Earlier this week I had the scallop/clam combo dinner and was not my typically satisfied self. The scallops were a little greasy which is unusual. I think that this was a one-time event because they are usual spot on.
(3)lisa s.
Oh, dear god, those fried clams are good! And the onion rings were so sweet and perfect. I wish I could go back and work my way through the menu. If you are anywhere near here, stop and get the best fried clams I've ever had!
(5)Elise W.
How anyone could give Jordan's fewer than 5-stars is beyond comprehension. I grew up on food from Jordan's, and everything has always been consistently delicious. When I'm home during the "Jordan's season" (I get the annual message from my Mum: "Jordan's opens tomorrow!" every year), I make a point to beeline here as soon as I get to town. My husband is now also hooked. Lobster rolls are by far my favorite anywhere. Crab rolls are delicious. My other favorites are the Haddock and Shrimp dinners. The lunch is plenty, but if you are really hungry you could order the dinner portion. One must not forget to finish every meal with an ice cream, too. This is the only place where I get soft serve. Because I grew up with this kind, it just doesn't taste right anywhere else. As others have said, there is no place that is kept as clean and tidy as Jordan's - inside and out. The same people work here year after year, which tells me that they are happy. Mrs. Jordan always welcomes me home, and remembers where I'm living now when I see her. We miss seeing Mr. Jordan around, but we're happy to see his photo hanging in the dining room. Have I said enough? Jordan's is the BEST!
(5)Karen M.
A good place to stop for a quick lunch if you're driving around the Bar Harbor area but don't actually want to go to Bar Harbor. Service is speedy, you order at a window and wait for them to call your name. It's right on the highway, and has burgers and fresh fried fish including clams. I thought the clams were good, but I'm not a connoisseur of fried clams, I tend to like them no matter where I eat them. The onion rings, on the other hand are EXCELLENT. Not the thick kind with the heavy crumbly batter, they are lightly battered and fried and the sweet onion taste really comes through. Also there aren't a lot of fresh vegetable options on the menu--it's not really a place for a vegetarian or someone looking for light, healthy food. There is a lovely shady area in the back with picnic tables and a playground to stretch your legs or let your kids run around in.

I have been coming to Jordan's Snack Bar for as long as I can remember. The food is good, and nothing more or less. And it's fresh. Their fried clams and fried fish sandwich are both good in particular. If you're a tourist looking for a good lobster roll, this is not the place. En route to Bar Harbor (not quite in the downtown area), you'll find some of the best lobster rolls in the country. Other than that, Jordan's has an extensive menu of gifford's ice cream, too. Besides the food Jordan's has a playground for kids and an arcade. A great atmosphere and always a good time! You won't be disappointed.
(4)James B.
I can totally see why this is a classic around these parts. Everyone I talk to who is from around here has stories of going to Jordan's as a kid, my small town home has a place just like it, the memories are almost as much of the experience as the food is. The food is really good though, I had the fried clams which were great, a good size, not massive but not the prefrozen small strips that are really vehicles for breading and ketchup and they had a nice salty taste. The staff was fine, its high schoolers doing their best to be nice. It is fairly expensive which is what keeps it in my mind from being 5 stars, but if you're looking for something fried that isn't lobster, certainly come here!
(4)Julie P.
I eat here all the time and in my opinion the fried fish burger is the best in town. I love it. My kids love the play area and there is always seating, even when it's really busy. The service is usually good: efficient, no-nonsense, always get the order right. The food is always piping hot. They recently added a changing table to one of the bathrooms. This is a very popular local spot and the seafood is very fresh. My go to choice in Ellsworth!
(4)Sarah E.
Great place to take kids. I have been coming here with my family and younger cousins for YEARS. good: fried shrimp, scallops, and clams. choc. milkshakes. bad: coffee milkshakes (HUGE attitude from one of the window girls to my cousin who ordered a coffee shake and got vanilla and was told "to deal with it" and had attitude before a manager stepped in and made a new one). and the onion rings are nothing to write home about either. my parents love them but i hate them. nice atmosphere- very very family friendly- great for family dinners and people with children. the outdoors has an arcade and huge playground for the kids. you can eat in a seperate dining room area or at a picnic table outside. pretty good place if youre a tourist looking for good seafood at good prices.
(4)Suzanne A.
Fantastic food but a little pricey. They are generous with portions. Unless it is raining I recommend eating outside. There's a dining room, but it is not an appetizing place to eat. There are picnic tables to sit at outside.
(4)Caitlin G.
My family and I have been coming here for over 20 years now, and every time still tastes as great as the first. This is an excellent snack bar where you can get burgers, fries, fish baskets, and soft-serve ice cream that never disappoints. There's also indoor and outdoor seating, plus an arcade. My personal favorites are the cheeseburger basket, with onion rings instead of french fries (the onion rings are to die for, thin and crispy with just the right amount of breading) and the peanut butter sundae. They offer dip cones, which is a soft-serve cone dipped in either cherry, hot fudge, caramel, or butterscotch sauce. The peanut butter dip used to be my favorite and I was so disappointed when they stopped offering it! However, the peanut butter sundae serves as an equally delicious substitute.
(5)Kelli P.
Best...Fried Clams...Evah! And the onion rings are worth the indigestion.
(5)Andrew L.
You cant really expect to drive through Ellsworth in the summer without stopping at Jordan's. Lots of fried seafood and ice cream.
(5)Ron S.
I was in Ellsworth for vacation and my wife's family loves this place for it fried clams. They would probably give it five stars. I on the other hand found this place to be par. The food was run of the mill. The seating was in a different building. and the chairs were uncomfortable. I might be a snob but this place did not light my fire. Later in the week my sister-in-law went for soft serve ice cream and she loves the fried clams so much she got an order to go after we had eaten dinner. Ron

Best fried clams around. Great place to come with kids.

Jordan's your restaurant name comes up in every family get together my family has now. This get together has to include my brother Andy who lives in Mississippi. My mom is a Mainer, except for the last sixty-plus years she has lived in three foreign countries, three different states, California multiple times, and, for the last sixty years. Oh yeah my mom is still a Mainer. Every fried clam we ever ate has been compared to Jordan's fried clams. This place holds such a comfort memory for our family. My aunts and uncles who are non transient Mainers still love to meet at this place. I can remember being two and my mom taking me to this place. It's the first restaurant in Maine she wanted to visit after being gone from the States for so long. I refused to eat the clams because they were ugly. I just turned fifty last year and celebrated by having a trip to Maine and eating fried clams at Jordan's Snack Bar. Along with my parents, sister, three brothers, one daughter, sister-in law, and three sets of aunts and uncles. All their food selections are outstanding, my sister can't eat clams so she eat the burgers or the fried haddock, she always enjoys it. You can save room for their Huge selection of ice creams both soft serve or hand scooped or you can be an oink er and order it all, personally I choose being an oink er. I like that they close for the winter I own a restaurant in San Diego and I could appreciate a long break or I could work hard and daydream of clams at Jordan's.

One thing I love about Maine is all of the independent food establishments. Sure, for the suspicious there are the McDonald's and Burger Kings, but they're really missing out on some really great authentic food. Over the years we have tried several milkshakes and ice cream novelites. One word of warning: if you don't like strawberry shakes made with syrup instead of fruit, stick with chocolate. The french fries and burgers are great. This place is a local favorite and if you're in town, you really should stop by and experience it.

Looks like an old "Dairy Queen", but it has simple, clean indoor seating. Order outside and wait for your number to be called & enjoy your food inside. Weekly Special ~ $6.50 - Halibut, french fries - generous serving Scallop Plate - $10.50 w/F. Fries - Excellent taste, fresh sea food. Fish chowder was outstanding. Worth a drive from Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park) to get this great food.
(5)Barbara W.
Best fried clams ever. Really. I just wish the french fries had been as good--that's why I didn't give them 5 stars.
(4)Jonathan C.
I have been by it several times, always meaning to stop ...Finally got the time to stop....boy oh boy, what I have been missing for all this time!! They have been in business for 25 + years and their food is ALL homemade. I had their haddock and my other half, she had the scallops. What a feast!! extremely fresh, very light batter that does not come back to haunt you later...They close for the winter in November (9th??) . Well worth the trip...good food - great prices - pleasant staff all make it an enjoyable experience. They have an enclosed dining room or you can choose to eat out under the the canopy of some old trees on well maintained picnic tables. Can you tell I was impressed?!? Go ! Enjoy !

Not impressed and fairly disappointed after reading the reviews. The food was mediocre at best. The crab roll left much to be desired. Although it was packed beyond capacity. I guess the thin shreds just didn't cut it for me. The texture was a little weird and it tasted too much of mayo. The onion rings were super bland. If you don't eat them with a sauce for flavour, you might as well skip them. The fries were sub standard and the fried clams should probably be renamed to 'no clams here'. It was pretty pricey too. I would suggest hitting up another place.

So we are driving around on this food mission for fried stuff and got to Chase's too late. By five minutes. I shall save that for my next trip. On the way back everything was closed, but we pulled up to Jordan's with less than ten minutes to closing. Knew nothing of it, but while we stood there deciding on order we noticed the flow of customers was constant. We ordered a bunch of stuff -- lobster roll, onion rings, fried clams, etc. I'll start with the fried clams and just say Hallelujah!!!! These fried clams - get ready, drum roll: taste like clams! Just delicious. Perfectly fried. Second, onion rings: superb. Fantastic. Best I have had in years. Purposefully ate half and saved rest for next day: even munching a few straight from fridge cold: YUM. Yes, fried food bad for us, but if you want a fried treat, this is excellent. As to lobster roll: these are good, but over-priced compared to what you can get around this area. I was sorry I didn't get the crab rolls - cheaper and everyone seems to love. That they have a million ice cream choices just tops it off. We did vanilla in a cup with sprinkles and it is what it is supposed to be. And the whacky set-up -- carry out, the separate dining room (have you seen the mosquitos around here, let alone my imagining of what winter must be like) and then the game room - if you don't love all that, you are just a jerk and need to stick with high-end. Or stay home. For goodness' sake, if you are in the Bar-Harbor/Trenton/Ellsworth area, don't miss.
(4)Julia R.
Been going to Jordan's my whole life and have never had a bad experience. Awesome snack bar food and the ice cream/soft serve is amazing. Also, you can't beat their prices!! As a Boston girl, I'm used to spending $6 on a kiddie ice cream. So in my opinion, their prices are an absolute steal! I read some reviews about the service being slow and I have to intervene... This is Maine, not New York City. Things are slower up here and if you have a problem with the wait, there are some fast food places down the street.
(5)Patrick D.
Fun place to kill a couple hours with the kids. The food might not be the healthiest but it sure does taste good. Awesome variety of food. Kids can get burgers, dogs, grilled cheese you name it they have it. I often get what ever they have on special seeing that the food is consistently good. They have picnic tables and indoor seating as well as a fun little arcade.
(5)Less H.
Hooo-leeeee-crap. This place rules. The fried food is done to perfection, the buttered toasted rolls are filled to bursting with whatever seafood you choose. Last time I went I got a crab roll, it weighed in around 1/2 pound and a fruited shake. If you've never had their fruited shakes you're missing out- vanilla soft serve- thick creamy soft serve blended with fresh fruit and put into a cup. I get the strawberry banana or Maine wild blueberry. My partner had a coffee twist softserve with butterscotch dip. The softserve was thick and rich, completely delicious and the dip was actually thick enough that it stayed stuck to the cone. Delicious. I travel to Maine frequently and try and time it in the summer so that I drive past Jordan's at a non busy time of day. I'm not telling when, but good seafood is okay at ANY time of day. If you drive by Jordan's see that it's busy, bite the bullet and stop, it's worth the wait.
