India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. Be assured that the melody of spices will surely bring delight to you.

Noticed this place in morning before a 3 day paddling trip and decided to try and make it for the buffet on Sunday. Remember the price being very affordable compared to other Indian buffets within the NYC area. The food was good quality and decently spiced. Of course, most Indian buffets dont put any level near the amount of spice generally used in home cooking (which is unfortunate, as I can tolerate more spices and concentration of hot chili pepper and garlic than any of my Indian friends and I am a white American). Also remember the water service being good, as we were quite thirsty after 3 days paddling in the sun. Would definitely come here again as this one one of the best Indian restaurants in rural America (dont ever get Indian in Maryland or Pennsylvania).

I've never been to Sher Punjab Bombay Mahal's rival Indian restaurant located just a block away, so I cannot compare them. However, I can certainly vouch for BM's amazing coconut soup, reasonably priced appetizers, friendly service, and charming decor. They generally play really awesome Indian tunes, and they give you a great assortment of 3 chutneys when you order any kind of bread. And, if you're lucky, you can even snag one of the two outdoor tables in summer.

Excellent Indian food. I've had several of their vegetarian dishes and they've always been delicious. For the rest of it, it's the usual restaurant experience: seating at a premium, occasionally you have to wait for a table, prices are a good value, the waiters are courteous, and when the restaurant's full the service can be slow. My only gripe: if you have to wait for a table, there is no bar or waiting area to sit and you end up waiting outside. For food, They serve the usual standard fare of northern indian food: Dal, curry, masala, tandoori, etc. Their paratha (flatbrad) is amazing.

Very impressive food! Totally delicious. We called ahead while on a road-trip and picked it up passing through Brunswick. We had Channa Masala, Shahi Korma, and Garlic Nan. We asked for both main dishes to be between medium and hot in terms of spiciness level, and the chef totally nailed it. The flavors were incredible, the food was steaming hot, everything was neatly packaged for takeout, and the side of rice was perfect. The owner of the restaurant was the person who handed us the takeout and he was exceptionally pleasant. Wish I lived closer so that I could go back! I question the taste of people who give this place few stars. :-)

I had a great meal at Bombay Mahal. The lamb vindaloo was very spicy exactly the way I like it. The nan bread was very good. I like the fact that they have outdoor seating and a large beer list. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. If you like Indian food this is a great choice.

Describe my experience at Bombay Mahal? Well, let's see. We went for the lunch buffet at $11/person. I have so many negative feelings about this first and definitely last time eating here, it could fill a small notebook. But I'll just try to briefly list them all 1) no water offered until almost done meal 2) only five buffet entrees offered, really? FIVE? At a buffet? Should have just walked away then 3) THREE of those entrees go completely empty during our visit, and 30 minutes later, only one was replaced - at 1:15 of an 11:00-3:00 buffet 4) owner comes out and sees empty buffet dishes and walks off to tend cash register, instead of letting the two wait staff do that and getting her self back into the kitchen to produce some food 5) one dish is chicken jalfrezi, but I guess the title was supposed to be a joke because there wasn't any chicken in it - no exaggeration - no chicken in it, but it was sure a great big dish of sloppy sauce 6) chicken tandoori is wet with some kind of gross sauce on it - tasted gawful and had obviously never seen the inside of a tandoori oven - owners preying on the ignorance of their customer, I suspect 7) aloo matar has six pieces of potato in it, that's all, but is basically all peas 8) staff manages tor run around looking busy while doing anything but taking care of customers, and 9) food they did have was just a soupy, tasteless pile of cold garbage. We were not the only people sitting and waiting for them to refresh the buffet - seriously, people were going up and returning to there seats with nothing because the buffet was literaly empty. After 30 minutes, we just decided to leave. I have never been so disgusted by a restaurant and their owners in my life. This place is an embarrassment and the owners should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sorry for people in Brunswick if they think this place is good or even fair Indian cuisine.

Brunswick, Maine is not necessarily a place where a diner might seek out "Fine Indian Cuisine", the trademark for Bombay Mahal . But, the slogan is, indeed, fitting, as our dinner last evening on Nov. 5th was a marvelous surprise, because one never knows what the outcomes might be when eating a regional menu outside of a major city. Our service was pleasant and prompt. I was especially impressed with my hearty glass of Chardonnay wine, at $6.50 it was certainly a good value, along with the reasonably priced and delicious meal. My husband ordered the curry chicken and I had the eggplant special of the day. We were served plentiful helpings, not overwhelming, we did not need a take home bag, as we literally spooned every morsel of curry sauce out of the serving bowl. The rice was also delicious, having lived in Asia for several years (not in India, however) I understand how many variations there can be in rice; but, Bombay-Mahal served it just right, white with a few colorful vegetables, again, nothing overwhelming, good flavor and lovely presentation. Another attribute of Bombay Mahal is the convenient serving hours, as early birds might want to eat at 3PM, we entered the restaurant at 4 PM, first seated for the evening; although, it began filling up fast around 4:30PM. On Saturday and Sunday the restaurant features a Buffet, lunch is served 7 days a week beginning at 11 AM. I'm told the Indian breads served at Bombay Mahal are made on the premises but we did not order any, as I'm keeping a reasonably low carb diet, as much as possible (therefore, the eggplant entree was perfect!). Bombay-Mahal is conveniently located on Maine Street in Brunswick, look for the green awning. Based on our dining experience, if you like Indian food, you will love it!

This restaurant is FANTASTIC!!! I'm still adjusting to small town life, coming from Chicago, but having such diverse food in this area makes me feel a little bit better. Anyway, this is one of the best restaurants in town. The family and the story behind the restaurant is a conversation starter at the table. The service is friendly and they definitely make you feel welcome. If you go, my recommendations are to try the mango lassi for a drink ( it's the bomb.com ), any or a variety of the paratha breads to accompany any of the biryani dishes. I love to add some paneer to the biryani because I have a cheese addiction and the paneer they make is awesome. This place truly is a gem to find right here in Maine.

Went in for a weekend lunch buffet that cost around $12. I've never seen a buffet with such small selections (around 6 main dishes)! They all tasted very similar, but decent--typical Indian cuisine with spices. Tandoori chicken was disappointing, as it was not warm at all. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, but it was SO HOT! It was a hot day (around 80-90 degrees), and the AC didn't seem to be running. As you can imagine, eating warm/spicy food in a stuffy/hot room is not ideal. Our waiter was friendly. Mango lassi was delicious, but quite small in amount.

Mouth-watering delicious!!! I visited Portland, ME over the winter for a skiing trip and was craving some good Indian food. I was recommended Bombay Mahal in Brunswick so I had to go. Boy was I glad I came here! Totally satisfied my cravings. Not only was the food delicious, the entire staff was incredibly friendly and service was excellent! The owner of the restaurant, Raj, approached our table as well to ensure we were happy with our food and service - which is very rare nowadays. We had Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, and Dal Makhani - all perfectly spiced. If you are looking for some great veg or non-veg Indian dishes this is the place to go!! Thank you Bombay Mahal for an incredible experience! We will be sure to visit you again soon!

Had not been in a year at least! Very pleased with all of our dinner selections! Still as good as I remember.

Fantastic food. I had a reliable standard dish, Chicken Tikka Masala and an order of Garlic Naan. You can't find flavor like this elsewhere in town. Delicious.

I am not up in Brunswick often, but when I am this is my go to place. Everything tastes very fresh. Maybe it's because I have been eating Indian food more - but it was great to come here and taste the difference in spices compared to other Indian restaurants. The staff here was great - they noticed we were getting low on rice in proportion to the amount of meal we had left and they offered to bring out more. The Chicken Saag and Tikki Masala were hearty and spicy - everything I want in Indian food. It's a cozy place.

I love, love, love this place! Everything that I've had here is incredible. I also enjoy the ambiance and the music playing in the background. The staff is always very helpful and very nice. They are always eager to answer questions, offer suggestions, and they'll also veganise many of the dishes if they can. This is a wonderful place.

This is our second time eating here...the first was the weekend buffet. The food is great! Service can be a little slow, but everyone is very friendly. On this trip, we had nan, palak paneer, channa masala, and a mango lassi. Everything was very delicious! For the spice level, we chose hot. As much as we love spicy food, the medium plus might have been the better choice. Any hotter and it might have become uncomfortable! And while some might feel the food is a bit pricey, we always get another meal out of the leftovers. That makes it A-OK in my book. Nice little outside seating area, as well.

Our group was in town to play the Saltwater Celtic Festival. We have a tradition of finding Indian restaurants while on tour, so we've had the lot. This place was a gem. Everybody's dish was exquisite, very well made, the flavors were noticeably explosive. Even the ones in our group who enjoy the "hurt me" spicy hot were pleased. The owner/chef chatted us up at the end of the mean; he was very cool and explained his technique to us about freshly flavoring each dish to order (we could see him back in the kitchen preparing our meals, looking every bit the mad scientist!) Couldn't recommend this joint more. When in Southeastern Maine, go here for Indian food.

By far the best Indian food in the region. I've always had their masala tea - perfection! Their naan is cooked just right, as is their roti. They make great curries, their lamb is always cooked in a mouthwatering way, and tandoori and paneers are delicious! Will definitely go again as soon as the opportunity arises!

We went there for the lunch buffet that they have on Saturday's and Sunday's. After looking at the buffet and the price 11.00 per person, we opted to just eat off of the lunch menu. When we walked through the door there were two waitresses that told us we could sit anywhere, so we did. After waiting for over ten minutes a waitress finally came over to our table, She never even brought us complimentary water, just the menus. After about being there for fifteen minutes, she finally took our order, along with pushing us to get some breads. My bf was starving so we did order some naan, BEWARE, they will offer you a mint or mango chutney to go with the naan, it's an additional $5! The food was decent when it came out, I wasn't amazed by it. Plus, down the street is Shere Punjab and their food is 10x better. The service here was awful, I couldn't eat all of my dish so I asked for a to go box. As she was clearing the table she took the rice I was planning on taking home. This place is just OK, i won't be going back anytime soon.

We are lucky to have two Indian restaurants in Brunswick. Bombay has flavorful breads, good solid friendly service and consistent quality. It is like eating in NYC or Bangalore? Heck no. Its slightly Americanized Indian food, like most here in Maine. Is it good ...yes. Take out is solid, Eat in is good. Avoid buffets for obvious reasons.

Went here with a friend the other night during irene. Busy with only one person on waitstaff but the wait is kind of the fun here. My guest asked why the person did not answer their ringtone. I said it was the music played. It was indian music with a hip-hip kick. haha I orderd Keema Samosa as a app/ Poori bread, and Chicken La Jawab- $14.95 split between us Boneless pieces of Chicken Tandoori sautéed with cream of coconut, bell peppers, onion, nuts and spices. I order'd a tea i wanted an iced tea but was served a warm tea. Language barrier i just picked a tea and dident ask I will know next time. Everything was great. Food is filling and spicy. We were never served our bread. Nice spot for two or more to split a meal.

I've eaten here a couple of times over the past year. The first time was more than OK, just a bit expensive. Love the bread. Last week was a disappointment. Terrible service - we waited to have our order taken so long in a 1/4 full restaurant that I was about 30 seconds from just walking out. The waiter was not personable at all and there was yelling in the kitchen. Someone was having a bad day. The food this time was not great either. My chicken tika was tough and fairly dry. Shere Punjab is better IMO.

The best chai in the whole world!! When we visited here for Chai around 10:30 am, the restaurant was closed, but I asked owner "May we have chai?" He said, "10 to 15 minutes! The chai will be ready for you!" He let us in, even the shop openes at 11:00am. We had the most delicious chai all you can drink for $2.50!! at the great kind warm welcoming restaurant!! Very quiet!! The best place to chat with friends!! and lunch is good as well!! although I did not have time to eat breakfast lunch on that day....I had a very busy schedule....until 11:00pm

Fantastic!! The music was excellent, the service was friendly, and most importantly the FOOD WAS SOOOOOOOO GOODDDDDD!!! I love spice and this place is one of the few restaurants that actually gives you a spicy dish when you request it!! Also, their menu has a very wide variety of veg and non-veg Indian dishes. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area!! VERY TASTY FOOD!!

So a few days ago Simone and I headed out for a weekend on the coast, and of course while on the coast we had to sample some of the fine cuisine that makes Maines coastal towns famous, Indian Food ! (Did you really think I was going to say Lobster ?). We found a great place on Main Street in Brunswick. Bombay- Mahal is a no frills tasty Indian Eatery. Simone and I visited late on a Friday night and had the place almost all to ourselves. When we arrived we were seated right away and the waiter asked us if we were familiar with Indian food. I let him know we were and then he told us about the evening specials. He was very happy to tell us that the eggplant was a house specialty. Now I'm almost as excited about eggplant as I am about seafood, so I respectively declined the eggplant dish. This was probably a bad idea because for the rest of the evening my waiter was almost somber in his mood. He went about serving us but was not real quick to smile or ask how our meal was or even if we wanted dessert. However, my meal was delicious and possibly the best Indian food I have ever had. Simone and I started out with the Bombay Appetizer Sampler. The platter had something for everyone- a Keema Samosa, which is ground lamb, shredded potato and green peas folded over in puff pastry and baked. This was very good and not to spicy. Pappadam was a baked very thin craker which tasted like a Saltine but was good with condiments. Rikki Tikki Tavi was a fried round pastry pocket stuffed with spiced vegetables, this looked like it was over cooked but tasted better then it looked. The last (and I thought the best part of the platter) was the Chicken Pakoras with big chunks of Indian spiced chicken breaded with Chick Pea flour and deep fried. A nice ethnic twist on a chicken nugget. The platter came with a very spicy fresh made mango chutney. Simone enjoyed it but I, but I found it overpowering. It also came with a nice cooling yogurt Raita which was excellent, and a sweet tamarind sauce that was equally as good. For our next course, Simone and I had the Peshwari Nan Bread. Nan Bread is an unleavened white flour bread that is similar to pita bread. This variety came stuffed with potatoes, pistachios and almonds and was drizzled with butter. It was heavenly, sweet, savory and sinful. Simone and I finally made our way to the entree portion of our meal and decided to order the Moghalai Chicken with Briyani Rice. This is a dish consisting of boneless marinated chicken pieces sauteed in a creamy, silky, rich and smooth yogurt tomato and butter sauce then topped with almonds. This sauce was so good I could have just drank it. I don't ever want to know how much butter went into it , but it was well worth the early heart condition that I will probably develop if I keep eating food like this. Not that my heartbroken waiter actually asked us ,but Simone and I did not order any dessert as we were way to filled up on all the buttery goodness of our meal. I think if we are in town again we will look to return to Bombay-Mahal. The food was absolutely a 4.5- the service a 3. Overall... I give this Brunswick Indian eatery a happy 4 stars

I have been coming here since I was in High School! This was always a really fun place to hangout at with friends. The food is pretty good, but for some can be a bit bland. The choices of Indian bread and toppings is the best! The staff are friendly but the language barrier can sometimes be difficult. Overall, warm atmosphere, decent food, and lots of fun!
